Professor Rivas is one of the best teachers I have ever had. She has thorough knowledge about the course material. You have to take 5 exams during the course, she'll drop the lowest score. I would definitely recommend her.

Monica is so enthusiastic and understanding. She presents material in many different ways, music, worksheets, short films, stories. She does not go over grammar points very clearly if its your 1st time looking at them. So in sum, read the book, do the homework and its a blast. A good class for challenges and learning within reason!

If you make a valid attempt to learn the vocabulary, grammer and conjugations you will do well on the tests.Everything is covered in class and although tests are based on each chapter in the text,with comprehensive finals,attendance is very very important. Dr. Rivas is brilliant and has a gift for teaching. Excelente! I highly recommend her! Exams were very fair and reflected the book's concepts.

She's very fair on grading. She is a PHD without acting like she is above the students. She's very patient with her students. Live, eat and breath Spanish doing the shorter format and and you'll likely do better.

MOnica is an excellent teacher. She cares about her students but at the same time, gives them enough flexibility and breathing room. She treats her students like the professors would in a university. Here's what you need to do to get a grade, and you decide how much effort you want to put in.

She's helpful, patient, understanding, concise, fair and positive. Makes for a rare and great educator. Span 1 is easy but anything beyond I hear is a little more challenging. A lot of class participation, loads of information covered in each class from text, some hw, short quizzes, study guide to help with midterms, but lab hours were a pain.

shes very easy! if you took spanish back in high school. then this class is just a review! i loved the class i was only there when it's review time before the test and i always A's the test! as long as you study and understand the material.memorization is the key! she fun!

Dr. Rivas is AMAZINGLY AWESOME! No doubt. She's super sweet and helpful. Had her for an independent study course and she helped me out with many things. Very good professor who actually looks at the culture of countries and not just the language. Lots of worksheets to help you and very open to questions. I took the accelerated course so it is a tad fast and missing a day might be difficult, but its a good class. The online lab is a pain in the butt due to the # of hours required on it however

Prof. Rivas is one of the best instructors I have ever had. This class exceeded my expectations. The instructor clearly loves to teach and goes the extra mile to make sure complex concepts are clear in people's minds. I took Spanish 1 as a GE course because I took it in high school and thought it would be an easy A. After taking that class with Monica, I took Spanish 2 and 3 with her, and am now aiming to become a fluent Spanish speaker. She encouraged me and made learning Spanish a hobby rather than a chore to transfer. I highly recommend her, she is amazing.

This teacher is quite literally the exact definition of an angel. She goes above and beyond to help her students and is very open to accommodations as well as help outside of normal hours. SHe truely wants the best and is by far one of the top 10 teachers I've had here.

monica is an amazing professor who genuinely cares about her students and wishes they succeed. that being said, her tests are pretty hard but it was okay since she gives pretty good study guides. she lowkey scares u at the beginning to make sure u dont use google translate but she is super sweet and helps as much as she can.

One of the most outgoing and easy teachers to talk to I have had at Mission College. Super helpful and understanding when it comes to learning the material. No hw is graded for the lecture, only tests but there are loads of assignments due in the lab. As long as you do the assignments for the lab, you will do fine on the exams. Overall 9.5./10 :)

If you want to learn Spanish and have a really good understanding of it, Professor Rivas is definitely the teacher to take. There aren't many things graded on as there are 5 chapter tests (which are open book) while the rest of it is quizzes but are part of the lab portion. She doesn't care if you make a mistake as she is always there to help you.

Rivas is an excellent communicator (syllabus, expectations, and course material.) She makes class feel warm and inviting while maintaining professionalism. Aside from knowledge of the language she also shares often, her experience of traveling through different Spanish-speaking countries which makes lectures personal and inspirational.

The course is well-structured. Lessons follow the text book, but are also supplemented with other materials. PDF's of the book are provided. Sometimes the quizzes referenced the wrong edition of the book, but I'm sure this will be fixed. As long as you attend all the classes and actively participate, you'll definitely do well in the class.

Such a wonderful professor. I've taken plenty of her classes over the years. I've taken classes offered by her at Mission College including Spanish 2 and 3. Such a wonderful and caring professor. She is eager to help you learn and pass. The class was enjoyable and made to accommodate those who are on the introverted side such as myself.

I have taken Spanish classes for many years at many different schools. Mrs. Rivas has been the best Professor I have had she is caring, she takes the time out of her day to spend time with you outside of class to make sure you understand the material, and makes everyone feel equal no matter what level someone may be.
