This class is easy, however, the tests are VERY hard! The test reviews are about 5 pages long and take forever to study for. She does quizzes every week. All of her test questions come from the book. She says the word "right" constantly and she shrugs her shoulders a lot, which makes it hard to pay attention. She posts all of her notes online.
She is a new teacher so has alot to learn. She makes you read ALOT!! The quizes are BEFORE you discuss the chapter which was hard. If you study real hard you can pass her. Her class is pretty boring because she talks the whole time but you'll understand the topic fairly well.
Ms Sosa gives quite a bit of extra credit work to those tht need it and sometimes gives take home quizzes for us to answer. It is alot to study and test on,so those not willing to learn and study this class is not easy. But if you apply yourself it can be done. She outs notes up on cruiser and gives you a progress report.
I do not recommend her class to no one. You have to remember the book word for word to pass her class. She picks out the smallest things for test. DONT TAKE HER.
Seriously? She's a new teacher so I agree she has a lot to learn. I mean it's an intro sociology class! Class was easy but she purposely made her tests to hard. I recommend you take someone else if you're looking for an easy A for an intro class.
She is a pretty fun teacher sometimes. She uses her arms a lot and she walks back and forth all the time when she talks holding her dr. pepper without ever taking a drink. She talks so fast and tries to cover so much in so little time. Yeah she is ok but I wouldn't really recommend her.
Very boring class. She does nothing but lecture. She also requires social learning/volunteer work.
I would not recommend this class. She is very nice but you will not learn anything..only her opinion counts and she just lectures on and on.. her nice but class would not recommend
I had Ms.Sosa for the 8 week term. If you do not know all the terms you will not pass. I worked my butt off, did ALL of the extra credit, and made a A. If you are just looking to breeze by DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT TAKE HER!!!95% OF MY CLASS FAILED!!
Ms Sosa knows her stuff.. she is very clear about what she teaches. you have to go to class because she shows videos that she has questions about on the tests. study terms and you will be fine. i got a b but if i would have studied harder i couldve gotten an a.. overall good teacher
She is very nice. She paces back and forward wierd and shrugs her shoulders too much which would distract me. Her exams are hard but she offers alot of extra credit. If you want an easy A i don't recommend this class.
Tests are definately tough and studying is a must but she offers more extra credit than any teacher I've had. She really wants to see her students do well is and is always willing to help you do better.
She loves to hear herslef talk. Her reviews are 100-200 of key terms that you are not going to use. When you watch videos you have to answer the HARD questions that don't seem like they go with the movies. You do participation assignments (essays) all he time. She is very boring and grades you if your participating in class or not.
Her test are not easy at all. I had a hard time contacting her and when I did talk to her she was rude and did not care that I had entered my mid term test wrong. I would not recommend anyone to take her class.
Great instructor with a lot to share. Make sure you study, participate in class and do the extra assignment or you won't make it.
she's very nice but her style VERY FAST is very difficult to get use to... NO recording in her class and... gives pop quizzes that are difficult MUST READ BOOK to pass/but you can pass her class with a lot of reading ...she gives a lot of information that .. I would not take her again
I took this class online and it was very straight-forward and somewhat easy. Upfront, you know exactly what is needed for the grade you want. Quizes are over the textbook, and homework assignments are fairly easy. I would definitely recommend Sosa for other classes.
Her test are not easy at all. You have to remember the book word for word to pass. She also picks out smallest things for tests. I had a VERY hard time contacting her and when I did talk to her she was rude and did not care. I do not recommend anyone to take her class.
Terrible Teacher. She loses papers and is not willing to help you at all. The most boring class I have ever had, very very monotone. If you ask a question that goes against what she thinks or teaches, shell just blow it off and keep teaching her opinions about sociology.
This class was very easy. Few assignments and very easy tests. I did have to study quite a bit for the midterm and final, but questions were taken directly from the material given. One if my easiest classes this semester.
Prof Sosa is a pretty good teacher. The class was 8 weeks, so it was a little tedious. You definitely can't succeed without a textbook, so get that before class starts. Quizzes were easy, test were straightforward. I recommend this prof 100%
I believe she is a good teacher but was not very clear on assignments. The textbook is mandatory, all of the quizzes come directly from the book. Participation assignments, quizzes and tests make up your grade. I would not say she was the easiest professor but she was decent. If you are looking for an Easy A, then pass.
She is a sweet teacher that was hard to get to know, but when I found out what her drive was it was amazing. She has a heart to teach and loves doing it. If you want an easy A, don't take this. If you are there to learn, she is wonderful!Ask her why she wanted to be a sociologist.
Very passionate about the subject, very interactive class experience, very good teacher. Not an easy A, but you will LEARN from her!
Relatively easy class if you pay attention, read the book or take notes, and have common sense. There is online homework required (Learn Smart). There will be in class work that counts. She gave us extra credit on the final. Use common sense; I was able to scored over 100 on the final without studying.
I was very excited to take this class but I was very disappointed with what it turned out to be. The teacher lectures for half an hour on the subject and then rambles throughout to fill up time. There is a quiz every week that almost never had anything to do with what we were covering in class. Over all I was very disappointed.
I took this class online and really enjoyed it. Do the reading and the work and you shouldn't have any problems at all. Professor Sosa was really helpful and kind, I wished I had taken her lecture course instead.
Her lectures were so boring I wish I had taken the class online. I enjoyed reading the book at home for the weekly quizzes more than I enjoyed her lectures. A little too monotone for my taste. It is a must that you come to class b/c she gives what she calls "pop-up assignments" and unless you have a dr's note you will not be able to make it up.
Professor Sosa is nice. The class is tough, she lectures on and on, I honestly daydream because they're so boring. She has quizzes around 20 questions, straight from the book. I recommend actually reading it, and not winging it like im doing .. I have no idea how to study for the final. Horrible teacher would NEVER take again :)
You can tell she really loves this subject and that she really does want you to learn. But she is very strict. If you are not one who does well with a lot of rules and with no leeway, I do not recommend. She does not care what is going on in your life outside of class. But do the work, show up, and you will make an A.
She had very long lectures, but she also didn't read straight from her power-points. She knew what she was talking about and was interested in it, so that made the material much easier to comprehend. You NEED the textbook for online quizzes. I only have one test grade and it's the final, so it's comprehensive. That is really the only difficult part
Don't take this teacher
This class was completely dreadful. I never knew I could dislike a teacher so much before I met her. Quizes are easy, lectures are incredibly boring and are always telling her students they are "distracting". She gave no review for the final and was completely vague of what we needed to know. Result: really hard final. Overall don't take her!
Dont take her. I will be simple if you want to learn for educational, or you want to just pass regardless, she is good for nothing. Do NOT take her, or be ready for the hardest time of your semester
She is the worst teacher TCC ever hired. She does believe you are right and she barely lets u ask a question. Tcc needs to do a research on her teaching. I took her for Wintermester and she gave one comprehensive exam and expects us to study every single word on each chapter to pass. I dislike Sociology because of taking her class. Horrible.
Taken during winter & was so easy. Does participation assig & quizzes are from the book readings. Can literally google the questions for the quizzes and get a 100. Has 1 exam, easy if pay attention to lecture. People who get low grade are one who lazy & dont come class. If you get all points on assg. & quiz only need 75 on test get a A! Easy A ppl!
The class was an easy A. Lecture notes were not related to the quizzes at all. But you HAVE to read the chapters in order to pass. If you read them, the Quizzes were easy. Kind of bland, but not hard and easy class. One Exam and it is comprehensive. Nice teacher.
I took this class in spring of 2014. I really enjoyed that class. She is very straight forward and very nice. I really enjoyed the topics she brought up as well. The class is pretty easy I got a B+ in this class with out even trying. If you're not a fan of lectures you probably won't like the class though. I would definitely recommend her class.
Very easy class. She gives group assignments that are pretty easy. Only thing is that the online quizzes are based entirely off of the book while her lectures tend to expand on the current chapters' subject, so her lectures won't help with online quizzes but pay attention because themidterm and final are based solely off of her lectures and videos
This professor is sweet and young. Her lectures can get a bit boring but she does put on interesting videos in the class sometimes. All you really have to worry about are online quizzes. She does group work sometimes which makes the class more fun. She really does know what she's talking about. She has a good heart.
Help yourself don't take her class take another teacher.
I wish I had of taken a different teacher
The beginning of the semester was slow to start. The lectures did little to hold my attention. After the midterm, the subject matter got to be more interesting. I feel I have gained new perspectives from this class. She chose an free open source textbook which was great. She's a sweet lady and grades fairly. Participation matters.
I took Ms. Sosa in Winter Mester quite honestly she's awesome and knows her stuff. This class was so easy AND you actually learn something. I totally agree if your opinion doesn't reflect hers she will shoot yours down or won't even let you get your entire thoughts out. Overall she's a phenomenal professor. I would take her again.
She's not very intriguing and loves to hear herself speak.
Great prof nice and helpful. You do have to read but class is interesting and you do learn. Like the games and stuff we do in class sometimes to break up lecture.
I'll be honest I thought this class would go well but dropped it, because I couldn't take her mundane lectures, so took some male teacher got an A I'm happy.
Got an A but her lectures made no sense but she has class discussions. If your opinion is not aligned with hers then you'll be shot down and she will cut you off and intervene, but this is an open conversation doesn't make logical sense. Oh well just glad it's over. Didn't learn anything because I'm interested with this subject but she's not great.
Mrs. Sosa is a good professor, and knows what she is teaching. Long lectures, but notes are posted online. Chapter Quizzes (book only, with long periods of time to complete), 2 Exams (lecture only), and 2 options for a paper. Keep in mind this IS a sociology class, so come into it with an open mind and don't get offended at the subject matter.
Horrific students save yourselves she is probably one of the top worst teachers hired and have ever had. I feel as though she just gives her opinions and not facts in the lecture. She's impertinent when you're voicing an opinion if its not aligned with hers pretty neutral huh? Not really if you can take different teacher please do or wait.
She's a good person, nice and cool, but I wouldn't take her again. Lectures are long and boring. The midterm and final are both very hard, and her grading system make it so you go the whole semester not actually knowing what your grade is. She is obviously a nice person, but I would look for another professor.
Long boring lectures class is sub par, but if you're a male student be prepared for a male bashing course rather than just a class course. I remember one time she was talking about gender differences, and she always mentioned how unethical the man was and only defended women in my class. But I learned absolutely nothing about it in class. Terrible
OK I was expecting this class to be easy and it was at first, until the exams I feel decieved, because I had an A+ going into the test, but the exams were inconceivably convoluted and difficult, there was questions pertaining to presidents, which is nothing she discussed in class. Would not take her if I were you. Many better options.
Lectures are a waste of time and non Pertinent information. The class exams were convoluted, and knew for sure I'd get an A but got a B because I didn't know what to study for, or I thought I did but it was totally foreign questions on the actual exam.
If you need to take this course look for different teacher, or if Sosa us your only option, then heavily contemplate that because I don't think she's great by any means. Her final exam is different from lectures and the textbook, some of the questions ask about political views and presidency. Didn't make sense.
She's a fraudulant, unethical, sub standard teacher, who feels intimidated when you make a comment in class discussions that don't agree with hers, then she holds acrimony. Out of all my teachers here she's by a landslide the worst. Her lectures are non neutral. Funny thing when I took her class I knew she didn't like me how she looked at me.
This class should be easy but I spoke to many students I thought would definitely get an A but got a C. First of all she doesn't even teach a real class and she's inept at this job. Students DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME with this teacher.
Took this class, it's whatever, this teacher in my opinion shouldn't be a teacher right now, because all of her lectures are opinionated, no facts. Her exams are immensely difficult, because she gives material to prepare for exam, but doesn't relate to test. Good teacher? Not!!!!!!
Teaching skills in question
Her class is alright but it's probably better with some other teacher.
In my class we had only one test, and it wasn't anything that it's seen on the exams.
In my opinion she's not a good teacher she is below average on the scale, simply because she seems OK until that big exam at the conclusion of the semester.
She's definitely a top candidate for worst teacher hired at TCC.
According to the grading scale, there was no clarity, especially in her lectures, made no sense.
Lectures? Yawn exhausting, because it's designed to deprecate the man in her conversations. This is not sociology it's fabricated lies and a platform for her to run men into the ground. She gave a guy in my class an F in a group project and it was a group of girl who lied on him, and he informed me I was a witness, but she of course believe them.
Shes a good teacher and I think somebody is spamming reviews because I never had a problem with her. She knows sociology and all of its concepts. She promotes group discussion but students often use it as a platform to address grievances with the subject matter. She sends out detailed study guides for exams. Notes all posted online. Easy A
Anyone saying these comments are spamming I don't know, but my personal experience, she is not great for my class, she gave detailed oriented test reviews, but only a few of those questions appear on the actual exam. Which is why people were infuriated, it may not be liken this for all classes but it was for mine.
She's OK, but I just don't agree with her flawed philosophy, or her teaching. It's simple until that test
Prof. Sosa is very knowledgeable about Sociology. At first lectures are super boring when you're learning the basics. But, later the lectures are interesting and you get some life lessons out of them. She does cut ppl off, but they are the ppl go on on on and don't shut up. She has to continue lecturing so I understand. Overall this class is easy.
Lectures are monotonous she might be knowledgeable, but it appears as though she finds slanted facts to display to the class.
At the end of the semester I promise her exam was something diametrically opposed to her tests for the final, which gave me problems at the end.
Didn't learn much I don't care if the lectures are boring, it's about learning which is what matters, but didn't get much out of this class.
Didn't learn anything from this class.
Not many test but that final exam was unprecedented for me, something never seen what was on that test.
Would not take her again. Had a convoluted time understanding exam questions, and the reviews were different.
I remember a couple semesters ago she was acrimonious towards males especially of color because she complained about how she had a bad experience with one, so any black male I would admonish you not to take her. Her class is saturated and permeated with chauvinism and man bashing lectures or black male bashing course. Clearly angry in life it shows
Exam is my problem I don't know how it was for anyone else's class, but it was difficult.
Tcc needs to delve into her background, just because you have the credentials doesn't automatically guarantee you're apropos for that profession at that time honestly. Everytime she speaks it appears as though she's making up statistics are finding fabricated information. I think she comes up with stuff as she's speaking.
Soci gives you the chance to see the world for what it really is. A messed up place. And with this class you can analyze why it is, the way it is. With that said, this class was super easy. Gives review before test and allows notecard for Midterm & Final. Assigns essay paper w clear instructions. You will fail if you miss class. Easy A for sure
She is probably the worst teacher i have ever had. Her lectures are very long and boring, she really loves to hear herself talk. I didn't really learn anything and her exams are way too hard. I do not recommend her for any course.
It's important to attend class to a degree, but lectures were nothing like my exam.
I remember I took her class last fall and got a D, because we have a group project and two girls basically lied on me and made fallacious statement to her about me. She didn't want to her my side really, because she's a chauvinist sexistand despondent. So to counter that I retook the class this summer and got a B to replace that grade haha MS Sosa.
To sum it all up she's awful, don't even know if she is still hired. She definitely shouldn't be.
She's a great professor, the people below complain too much. She gives you a note card for your exams and a review about a week before the exam. She also gives you the power point notes. So if you're lazy you won't succeed in this class or any other class.
These reviews are ridiculous. I took her spring 2016 and she is NOT a bad professor by any means. She gives informative lectures and posts all of the notes online. She is nice and is willing to help. You only fail this class if you are lazy and don't study for the mid term and final. Seriously. Easy A.
Professor Sosa was a 10/10 online. I'm not sure how she is in person but I would recommend her online class in a heartbeat. The textbook she offers is free, an easy read but also informative, and the chapters aren't too long. She listens to you, grades well, gives you feedback, and overall I have found a love for sociology I never knew I had.
I loved this class. It was very easy! She is a fair grader and has many opertunities for extra credit. She does teach "white priviellege" a lot, but other than that, she was fantastic!
Wouldn't recommend her for most I've heard she's gotten called to the office a plethora of times. I would look for any other social problems teacher. She seems to deprecate one group of people and gets derailed by making the class a gender debate rather than an informative lecture.
Sosa's class can seem overwhelming. You have 1 paper due (5-7 pages), and 3 exams (if you make a 90+ on the first 2, you are exempt from the 3rd/final exam). There are chapter quizzes from the free online textbook (they're time consuming, but not too difficult). She does lecture heavy (quickly, also) but overall the class isn't too bad.
Professor Sosa is a really great teacher! I enjoyed having her class. Her lectures are tough and may seem long but she will always post them on blackboard. Tests are pretty hard so study well. She is very caring as long as you come to class and try your best!! I would take her again!!
Marriage and Family, I really enjoyed learning the various issues regarding the subject. there is a discussion board once a month and 3-4 quizzes each month, a midterm and final but as long as you read the book you will pass with an "A"
Great lectures, she knows what she's talking about. Few hw assignments, online quizs, and test. She offers an online textbook for free on blackboard, very useful for the quizzes. Take advantage of her extra credit opportunities. Grade scale is by points not average. I would def take another class of hers. Not a boring class.
Responds quickly, gives good advice, easy grader, good feed back, not a lot of work, test are easy, and you don't need the book. This instructor is AMAZING! Super fun and extremely easy! I(I took it with two other courses, I work and have 6 kids) Made a 93! I would take her again! Fantastic!
This teacher is really good for 1301 Soci.
Her class was 'okay' for the most part. Her tests were heavy, but her essays was not that bad. She offers extra credit so she take advantage of that but you never know what to expect with her class. Also her lectures are really boring so it is hard to stay awake but she is a decent teacher.
Great choice. Just show up, do the work, listen, and you'll be fine.
Her class is very lectured based. Online quizzes over lectures are pretty easy, but her tests can be difficult if you don't know the material. She does her best in having the class stay awake and focused. Show up to class and you should easily pass as long as the material is studied.
I always looked forward to her class although many described her lectures as boring. I took her in fall 2017, and I do not regret it. She does have a lengthy paper due, but she gives you adequate time to complete it plus you can easily make the page count by rambling on about your exepirimemt.
is a very good teacher with a lot of experience and personal stories that tie in with the lectures. My one and biggest con is her ability to remind her students about upcoming due dates and expects you to refer to the syllabus when you have a question about assignment due dates and expectations
She takes weeks to months to grade anything. The final test is worth 250 points, I quizes are 450 and the discussion boards are 300 points. 900-1000 is an A you have to do good on everything to get an A. if you get perfect score on everything before the final you only have 750 points. You have to get 150 points on the final to get A.
Mrs. Sosa made Sociology one of my favorites classes. I loved her class, the way she lectures and the assignments she correlates with her lectures were very interesting for me. She always makes it personal, I loved everything about her and her classes. Her class is more notes heavy, but the required textbook is free online.
Very easy online class! Prof Sosa gives you plenty of time to complete all the assignments which are one quiz a week and a discussion board post every other week. Tests are based on the quizzes. She is very caring and understandable. Free textbook. Just get ready to read a lot. Easy A!
She really made this class enjoyable. She tells stories, she's kind, very passionate about serious issues and cares for her students. If only I studied just a little bit more, I probably would've gotten an A. No textbook is needed because she has all the notes on blackboard! I would retake her course 100 times if I could!
You mostly learn on your own terms and the textbook is essential. The lectures are not the most helpful, though she is very down to Earth and you feel like an actual human is teaching you.
She's passionate about what she teaches, but it's mostly up to you to find out the information to pass the weekly tests and research papers (+1 pages), which are most of the semester grades. She does lecture a lot, but she gets focused on one topic intensely which leaves us limited knowledge for other topics that we must find ourselves.
Social Problems with Professor Sosa was super. The syllabus is clear and she is approachable, responsive and she motivates. Discussion boards are on current topics that everyone should be aware of and are relevant to the going ons of society. Have no doubt, highly recommend it.
Yay! This was my last class here at TCC. I enjoyed the class even though its somewhat a lot of work its nothing to hard. It was really just subjective and objective topics. Chapter readings, discussion boards/2 replies and lastly ch test. TAKE THIS CLASS
