Awesome professor! Demanding, but very fair! Recommended!
Accuses students unfairly without caring about the truth. She is always right
No Comments
Worst teacher ever. Accuses students of cheating even though they aren't. This woman is the Devil! Too much work, very demanding and just plain mean.
she's such a good teacher. she is very fair and listens to students and respects what they say.
Very opinionated. Very nasty
there are many summaries and essays to write..and a final paper..but the class involves group discussion and is interesting. She can spark discussion well, and isn't boring much
Greatest Professor Ever, except for Fred Strype.
Very genuine, caring and helpful. Understands her field very well. Fair grader, but extremely concious of cheating, which I think is a very good thing. Demands integrity.
She's so polite and cheerful! She always brightened my day. She welcomes class discussion and gives the classroom a very comfortable feeling.
don't take it! drop the class..too much work and hard grader! I did so much for the class...I wrote all my essays, the best grade she gave me for my essays was a "D" I spent so much time in writing those essays. I guess she just didn't like me.
I love her!! She is so great, she makes me want to be a Lit major instead of Psych. She is very intelligent, and funny too. If your writing skills aren't that great, you may have trouble, but she is always willing to help. Giacoppe rocks!
She's a total wacko. Sent 15 students from my class including myself to Student Affairs for alleged cheating on papers. She's boring, has an annoying laugh and is absurd on her grading. Don't take her if you don't have to.
I seriously don't know what you're talking about. The class isn't hard, unless you're retarted, never learned how to write a paper, and/or never go to class. It's an intro class, so if you're getting bad grades, blame your HS teachers, not her.
She's not an easy grader, but a fair professor....very polite, helpful....very passionate about literature - overall - one of the nicest professors at Ramapo
I get the sense that she's never done anything wrong her entire life. She loves literature, and loves you if you love literature. Very through, and kinda picky when it comes to papers, not so much tests though.
I found her to be a very good teacher. Her passion for literature is very helpful to push you though class... often my class flew by becasue she could get the class into a discussion. I'm taking her again for brit lit.
Littie did I know my own personal beliefs were wrong until I took her class. She's a good teacher, but she is very biased towards feminist and communist beliefs. There is nohing good in this class.
She is the greatest teacher in all the land! If I could take her for every class I would.
She's horrible. Gave me the lowest grades I've ever gotten on papers. She's fake, too. I just really had an overall dislike for her, she didn't make anything easy.
She is absolutely horrible horrible horrible. She gives the hardest assignments for a gen ed class. Don't ever take her!!!
complete psycho. terrible teacher, doesn't even know how to teach the rdgs in class. hates anyone who has read the rdgs before and has their own opinion. lies and is two faced. brags about sending ppl to acad.affairs, has no prob. not letting you graduate
One month into the semester and i cant take her already. She doesnt know how to teach. Dont take her for any class..
just plain awesome.
She is a very fair professor and her peppy attitude helps the class to go by especially in the morning. She is one of the harder graders within the Literature major at Ramapo. Make sure you use quotes from the text when writing an essay for her!!!
This woman is nuts! I advise everyone to NOT take her for anything. You will work your tush off, and get a bad grade because she is so biased. Do yourself a favor..Stay away!
She wants you to think she's hard, but she's really not. She does play favorites though and some of her assignments are simply ridiculous. Only take her if you are really interested in literature. Stay away for gen eds.
First off... She's a crazy feminist. Be prepared to kiss some major ass to pull of a good grade. She has 5 papers and a final paper. You can do re-writes of all papers and she tells you what you want. She's not a great teacher but there is worse.
I don't see what all of you are talking about. I think she is fair and she gives very good feedback on your work.
She is a nice woman. Very upbeat whichs means you stay awake in class easily. She is very into format for papers. Assigns a lot of reading, but hey, if you are a Lit major expect to read.
I think she's the best professor on campus. She is so interesting, her mind is all over the place.
Do not take this professor. Did 5 papers, and she is one of the hardest graders I have ever met. Expects way too much out of students in this freshman course (we're not writers). Oh, and if you have a different opinion then her, forget it.

Expect to read....ALOT. Awesome teacher nonetheless.
great lady...will meet with u a lot to help with papers...lots of reading, but it IS a reading course...take her if u get the chance
attention all incoming innocent freshman: if you have this woman for english..get the hell out of it..worst experience of my life!
Don't expect her to hold your hand. She knows she's not teaching high school, so she asks a lot of the students. Strong opinions. Loves the Brontes. Great professor, great woman, great class.
She is a nice woman, however I did not understand her paper topics, and often times fell short of what she was expecting. Some ppl loved her some didn't. I won't ever take her again, but then again I have had professors I loved & others hated. Make ur own choice.
Anyone with a working brain and any interest in literature will love any class Prof. Giacoppe teaches & will benefit from her excellence, intelligence, and constant enthusiasm. I'm sick of people who aren't able, willing or smart enough to succeed in challening classes and choose to blame the prof!
only take this class if you're a lit major and you're ready to read 7 novels. highly recommended if you want to work hard and learn a lot.
very knowledgeable, but even more enthusiastic. makes the class fun and some dense material very intelligble. no reason not to take her, you'll learn plenty, and enjoy doing so.
i love professor Giacoppe. She is so enthusiatic and passionate about her material. I enjoyed her class, there was a lot of reading but it was tolerable. I actually took her course in leiu of a freshaman seminar and I am not an eng major. nonetheless her class was great. she is very helpful. take her
She is a great Prof., who cares about the student's understanding of the class and subect. So far she is the best Prof. I have taken in college and I'm a junior.
ya know, i am now i sophomore and i took this lunatic my freshman year. i STILL think about how much she pisses me off. if you are at all opinionated or NOT feminist..dont take her. shes wacky, she grades you on your opinion. shes one of those people where ya wonder...what does she do w/ free time
shes weeeeeeeeird. she suuuuuuuucks. she such a wack Jooooooob. i cant even explain it..i dont do this rate my professor jazz, however i felt the need to add my comments to save YOU. dont do it.
Stay away
An extreme asset to Ramapo! She not only makes you think but smile and converse with everyone around you. She is GREAT!!!
The worst...stay away
Little did I know she's a crazy feminist. She nearly failed me for my views, and not my writing. Got 4A's out of 5 papers. Aced the final. Got a 98 on presentation, ended up with a B-. That one paper on feminism did that to my grade.
I took her fresh. year...that was 5 years ago. She had threatened my whole class with plajurism on a paper....But, ironically I was the only student that got in trouble. I had straight A's that whole semester, I got a Z in her class, which turned into a
i love monika
she is a fun teacher but she is diffacult to write papers for. She is not clear on what you could have done better on your papers. But over all a good teacher.
Monika's great. The discussions we had in class were illuminating and the class was enjoyable. I didn't find writing for her difficult at all, and she is a wonderful person.
she assigned a lot of reading, but she went over each book SOO thoroughly that you could have passed the class with an A without reading a single thing (and quite a few people did!)we had two 5 paged papers and a midterm and final. we even watched a video in the class. the class is a breeze.
GREAT CLASS, GREAT TEACHER!! VERY GOOD. She really makes the class worthwhile and interesting. She is very smart, not too much homework. Easy, and great!
She taught this class when she was pregnant, but she was the happiest pregnant lady I've ever met. However, she is unclear about what she expects from you, writing-wise, but she will allow re-writes and gives a lot of feedback on your papers.
This lady rocks!!! She'll make you work, but if you let her, she'll teach you to even appreciate some of literatures more painful reads...If you're a slacker, stay away, but if you wanna learn alot from a real smart lady, take her class.
MISERABLE
Unclear and very inconsistent. Asks for feedback but if it is something she doesn't want to hear she flips out.
i dont know if it was ma fault or it was the teacher i went to this class for almost 2 months and then dropped it. took it with another teacher and passed it. if u dont like to read difficult literature take it with someone else
I had her for the american short story. she assigns a lot to read. you definitely have to keep up with the reading because she also expects you to submit questions or comments via email before every class. however, she is a fairly easy grader as long as you try to write your best. she's very passionate about lit and she'll teach you a lot.
Sh is very inclear. she tells you in the beging that your opion is wrong, and if you dont understand something she makes u feel stupid.
Ok if you wanna fail college and be told you suck at writing. take this teacher. If you take it, dont bother going for extra help cuz let me tell you, she didnt help me at all. she may have good intentions, but she is rude!!
misery.. she may come off nice, but she is NOT. expects a lot from you.. she doesnt make sense when she talks, if you dont agree with her forget it.. just.. stay away
The WORSTT TEACHER....i was terrified of her too....she makes you feel dumb and your always wrong...if you want a good grade avoidHERR and there are way too many papers with hard topics like 7
Very tough grader. Will give you good comments on the papers, but you will still end up with a C. It was so hard getting ready to go to this class every week, because it was very boring, and wayyyyy too much work compared to the work load with my other courses
If you are looking for a good English professor, avoid her. If you are looking for an awful English professor, avoid her. If you hate yourself and think you deserve punishment, take her. She gives moderate reading but way too many essays for freshman. She is a strict grader for essays and will barely ever give a B or higher. Good luck with her
I absolutely loved this class. I think I learned more in this class than all others I had that semester. Definitely take her if you get the chance !
Professor Giacoppe LOVES literature. And poetry (be prepared for a poetry section). The discussions were great. The paper assignments give you some freedom, but were not graded easily.
DONT TAKE HER. barely gives above a C very hard grader and if you dont write how she wants it she blatantly calls you stupid. allows rewrites but dont expect an awesome grade. offers extra help but DOESNT help at all. AVOID HER IF YOU CAN!
She is VERY mean and VERY opinionated. When it comes to papers you can pick your own topics but they need to be about what SHE likes or else she'll give you an extremly difficult time. You take a lot of quizzes so make sure you do the reading. Ifeel as though I didn't learn anything in this class. Aviod her
This lady is actually pretty smart. She knows how to write an essay and during the semester i learned a lot from her on how to write. Yes, she is slighty wierd but shes got a nice body and knows how to flaunt it.
Her class is pretty hard and the material is boring. Although she is a good writer who taught me a lot about writing during the semester. She is kind of wierd but she is pretty cute and has a nice body. Overall it balances out and i didnt mind her or her class that much.
She is a tough critic but you learn a lot about your writing and how to fix it. She doesn't focus on style so much, but more of the facts. I listen when she talks because it's so fast and in depth you have to keep up but overall she as a helpful teacher.
Good teacher, knows a lot about writing and you can learn some useful things about writing skills. If you are not a good writer don't take her, grade is 4 essays and an 8 page research paper. No midterm or final but she is a tough grader but allows revisions.
Seriously take my advise and don't take any classes with her... I had to drop her class because she was such a horrible teacher and I was going to get a bad grade. I took it again with a prof. who actually knows how to teach and got an A.
She's really not that bad, yes, the material is boring and you talk about fast-food for the whole year, but it really isn't too bad. If you are a good writer take her because that's all you are graded on. 4 essays and an 8 page research paper. No final and no midterm, and she doesn't take attendance (although i'd recommend still going).
Did she try to make another profile for herself on here because her ratings were so bad? No matter how this site spells her name, just don't take her. She was the worst teacher I took a class with at Ramapo. Do yourself a favor and take reading in humanities with someone else. You're GPA will probably benefit and you'll probably learn a lot more.
misery. Im not kidding, change your schedule to avoid this one.
She's an easy teacher if you know how to write - lots of reading (for Readings in Humanities), if you dont participate in class she wont like you! Also, she's a feminist so she doesn't like guys as much. 3 papers, she gives you a chance to rewrite them, all the quizes are so easy
She's not dull, classes go by pretty quick, but she is def not helpful. She gives a lot of mini non-difficult quizes, but that's to make up for the horrific grades she gives for essays. I had decent grades and I still don't know how that happened considering that she is not specific at all with what she wants on her essays. Also passive-aggressive.
She's a great teacher, I feel like everyone who left negative comments probably didn't do the work required for their classes. I love the way she structures her classes, and yes, if you don't do the reading or care about the class you're gonna have a hard time, but otherwise she's not unreasonably difficult. You get out of the class what you put in
I'm really quite shocked by all of the negative feedback! I think Prof G is an excellent professor. She is so well spoken and considerate of her students opinions. Her grading is fair and more importantly, I found her always willing to work with her students on their writing progress.
Very unfair grader. Would not recommend taking her unless you absolutely love what she is teaching, very boring class
An absolutely unfair, horrible professor. Doesn't respond to emails regularly but tells you to "Keep emailing her". Has 0 consideration for students with disabilities. Overall, a horrible class!
WORST teacher i have ever had. INCONSIDERATE, IN-HUMAN! doesn't like to deal with issues of her own. Goes behind students' backs and manipulates them.
I have taken her for two 300 classes and I love her. She is very kind, and actually cares about my existence outside the classroom. If you are a hard worker: you get the A. If you do not, well, you will simply not. However, if you want to become a better student, take her.
nice and very helpful
I have taken Professor Giacoppe and I find her to be very caring of her students and their learning. I think if you try and make an effort to appreciate her as a professor, you will do fine. I've never got less than an A and this is my third class with her.
Dr. Giacoppe is one of the nicest professors! I'm not sure why she has so much negative feedback. She has high standards, but is always willing to discuss your work. She genuinely cares about her students. Just weekly responses, a few essays.
She taught comparative feminist theory; She's very approachable and friendly, and I really enjoyed her class! The assignments were really fun and the class was very discussion-based. I'm definitely taking her again!
Took her for Danticat author studies. I learned so much in this class and it was really interesting. Monika cares very much for her students and is extremely passionate about the material. The class was lots of hard work, but so worth it! Monika is fantastic and I wish I could take her for every class!
Prof. Giacoppe is absolutely horrible. She has no idea what she is doing when it comes to essays and grading. I often question how she is even a qualified professor. Quizzes are random, she offers no help, doesn't want to be bothered. Hard grader. Not clear on instructions for papers and other assignments. DONT TAKE HER!!!!
Easy quizzes, pretty easy essay grader, overall a nice person. Understands if you have a late assignment here and there
I had her for African American Women writers and she was fantastic. She's always incredibly friendly and energetic about everything. Whenever you speak in class you can see her lean in and look you in the eye because she wants to hear your take on the books you're reading. She's really a great professor. I have no complaints.
Took her for 20th & 21st International Novels. She is very flexible and willing to work with students with any issue. She is very passionate/energetic about her classes and is a good teacher.
She seems to grade on personal opinion and not the facts that are presented. Very boring material, definitely not an easy A.
She is not easy, but not impossible. If you have a problem or are unclear about how she wants her papers written you NEED to talk to her. She helped me numerous times rewrite the same paper until it finally clicked. You need to participate, it will really help your grade in the long run.
Readings in Humanities: Yes, there is a lot of reading, but there are few quizzes, and you know about them in advance. She is really passionate about her class material, but the topics are really interesting. The quizzes are quite general so don't worry about those. She teaches her interpretation but wants to hear your ideas. Would take it again.
Such a sweet woman! Monika's Atwood course was amazing. So many great texts, so get ready to read. 2 papers, one about a month in and the final paper. Take this class! Highly enjoyable!
This was the most stressful class I have taken. She was so particular about grades and her handwriting was illegible. I would go to her office hours and basically everything would be my fault to her. I used to love reading and writing and she made me never want to read again. It's her way or the highway. Read literally a huge novel once a week.
Monika is a great professor, but you have to be willing to read the material and come to class ready to discuss. If you participate and pay attention you know exactly what she wants for the paper. She practically gives you the material in the in-class discussion. You can tell she really thinks about the lessons. Take her if you want to learn.
Professor Giacoppe is the best! I love her class so much. It does get boring at times but I think that contributes to the time it is held at (6:05-9:35pm). She is very helpful and thorough and you can tell she loves what she does. Sometimes her papers can be a little difficult to write because she wants them done is a very specific way.
She's pretty fair, but the class is difficult to sit through. Don't expect to be let out early and be prepared to sit and listen for pretty much the entire class. The papers are not straightforwardly explained at all, but if you listen close enough in class you can manage. If you're looking for something easy, definitely do not take. Lots of books.
She gives a lot of reading. You have to do these very specific journals a few times during the semester which are extremely annoying. The worst part of the class is that the final paper is worth more than anything else in the class. It is worth 20% while journals are 15%, quizzes (combined) are 15%, and the final exam is 15%. I wouldn't recommend.
Professor Giacoppe picks and choses her favorites. She is such a tough grader and her lectures are out of it. Through my whole year at Ramapo I never had a professor that gives so much attitude and is being rude treating her students as if they're stupid. NEVER EVER WOULD TAKE HER AGAIN!!!!!!!
The reviews here had me scared for no good reason. Shes so sweet and caring and really wanted to make things work for our class the best she could! Discussions were super interesting and she always have good feedback. You definitely need to read, but the books were worth reading anyways. I wish I could take her again!
She is an amazing professor. She allows you to revise your essays after she gives you the feedback for it. Her classes may be hard to sit through sometimes but it's not bad overall. She assigns journals every so often but she's very specific with what she wants. Instructions are always very clear on what she wants. She doesn't want anyone to fail.
I absolutely love Professor Giacoppe. She is an extremely intelligent and understanding professor who wants all of her students to pass! Some of her lectures were on the boring side, but homework is basically all reading and we hardly had any tests or quizzes. We had a few writing assignments, but she gives you a good grade as long as you try.
please just do yourself a favor and do not take her class. I know for a lot of people it is a required class, it was for me, but seriously it is just absolutely brutal. if there is another option take it. get ready to read, even though when you do, you won't understand anything you read. she moves through books so fast & grades so hard. steer clear
Worst Professor I've taken. DO NOT TAKE HER. She grades harshly on very hard materials, requires multiple books, is impossible to get in touch with, is not helpful, and is just plain unprofessional/rude. Not good at explaining assignments - leaves confusion. She always thinks everyone is cheating/plagiarizing. Absolutely terrible professor.
Most of the work is just reading and answering some questions or posting a discussion post. She is a super easy grader as long as you put in some effort. Some of the topics are boring, but she definitely knows what she's talking about and values her students' opinions.
Do not let these reviews fool you! Monika Giacoppe(at least spell her name right-smh)is a wonderful professor. Her syllabus is so diverse and unique. There are a lot of discussion boards but they are used to facilitate fantastic in-class discussions. She takes the time to reply to everyone and cares what you have to say. 10/10 professor and person.
Monika as i should say is very rude and a very strict grader. She does not care about her students at all. She acts like she is this nice lady but its all fake.... Paper after paper and quizes that take hours to do. Do not take her.
Class is 3 hours long once a week then gives us at least 3 more hours of work to do outside of class. Quizzes are extremely specific and she grades them so harshly. She laughs in students' faces in a passive-aggressive way and is extremely fake. Do not take her this should be an easy gen ed class but she makes it so hard for no reason.
Failed me on my final paper for messing up on 2 citations that were cited but improperly. I was formerly a 3.5 GPA student who does not shy away from work but a Professor who is that inconsiderate should not be professing. It is not a conducive environment to learn. I respect all professors with extremely high regard with the exception of her.
In my opinion, I really disliked the way Prof Giacoppe taught her class. She seems like a nice prof in the beginning but outside of class, she is a very strict grader. Her lectures consist of reading the chapters of books while she goes the full 3 hours. I would not take her. She is very sweet but lacks the attributes of a good educator.
She is a good teacher who gives detailed feedback and is understanding of different people's needs, gives a reasonable amount of readings.
I literally made an account just to talk about how great she is. She is so passionate about what she teaches and cares so much about her students. She does give a lot of readings, but if you genuinely read them and participate in class you'll do great. She can grade a bit harsh but she's always available for help and sometimes allows revisions.
She's great! Her lectures are interesting and the way she teaches makes one feel like they can speak up and participate in discussion without judgment which unfortunately is not a universal experience. I actually wish she gave more reading material! I thought she was a fair grader too, and pretty flexible.
Giacoppe isn't that bad. She can be a tough grader and expects you to read a lot. She is nice though and easy to get along with.
There is a lot of reading required and the big assignments are all toward the end of the semester. Professor Giacoppe is nice and gives good feedback on all the assignments. She's also very understanding if you speak to her
Gen ed but she def does not view it like that. I got bored of this class so quickly. Large workload for no reason. Last two weeks of the semester and there's a video assignment due, a 8-10 pg long research paper, and a 3 pg final paper. She did extend the due dates a bit, but this class is not that serious for all that work. STEM student btw
Honors SIAH, get ready to read. 4 novels required and she moves through them quickly. No quizzes or exams but we had three final assignments including a 8-10 pg. research paper. I also felt like she started grading more harshly on the last few assignments once the semester was coming to a close. Very nice woman but I will not take again.
Professor Giacoppe's class is a substantial workload, but she's understanding and provides helpful feedback. I found tools like unstuck study really useful for exam prep. Overall, it's a solid gen-ed with the right approach.
Extremely disorganized professor and expects a lot for a Gen Ed. course. Lots of confusing readings that are cumulative towards the final exam which is nearly impossible. Impossible to please this professor and can never meet her standards. Way too harsh for a Gen Ed course even though she believes the course is not difficult. Beware of pop quizzes
Very, VERY sweet lady, so nice that you could probably do just about anything in that class and pass. It was FYS so def not meant to be too difficult, but you can just tell how much love she has for her material and students. Literally nobody even read the material and she barely cared lol
Very tough grader. You can work very hard in this class and still get below B easily. I never rate professors, but I had to here.
Very sweet lady don't get me wrong but comes off fake sweet m
The professor seems very sweet at first but honestly she comes off fake sweet more often. A lot of books had to be purchased just to read them in 3 days or skip through them. Waste of money. I worked really hard all semester and still got a grade I'm not happy with. The professor also suspects every one of plagiarism all the time for no reason.
Sweet lady but very passive aggressive. She thinks that her FYS class is something that students should prioritize over other classes and she assigns more homework than any class I took in a semester and its literally seminar. I dreaded this class and fell asleep in it multiple times. Her exams are so hard especially if you don't read.
Honestly, it wasn't a bad class. The only annoying part was that she was self deprecating at times which was awkward. She does assign a lot of reading but not many people read them and she didn't really call anyone out for it. And she does NOT accept late work so make sure to get it in on time.
Will give you a bad grade but then will not tell you why you got a bad grade Will give you notes on your assignments but will not tell you specifically what you need to fix Will directly report you to the Academic Integrity advisor without consulting you first Just all around not a great professor
Heavy workload with a lot of reading. Grading was very strict. I put a lot of effort into my assignments but never received an A, and feedback wasn't always clear The professor expects participation and will call out students publicly if they seem distracted, This class may work for students who thrive under pressure and constant engagement
