Her lectures are extremely boring and the test are kind of hard. The best part about this class is if you get a F on her tests you will still end up with atleast a B in the class.
3 tests, 3 quizzes, 7 homework assignments, 1 final: A LOT of work! She grades at the curve which helps - A LOT! Decent instructor.
She goes over a lot of material in class. Her lectures are somewhat tedious, but they're never off track. Overall, she's a good teacher who's willing to help. Homework is easy, online quizzes are easy, just be sure to read the book.
Her lecture is easy. If you do your homework and attends well, then you will get a good grade. She really supports student.
Professor Thomas is a really wonderful instructor. She has a passion for econ and knows what she's talking about. She brings in current events into discussion so we have a better understanding of the topics we are covering. Her tests are not too hard as long as you review homework and quizzes & practice the graphs. I highly recommend taking her.
She knows a lot about the subject but has a hard time teaching it in a manner understandable to the class. Super boring
Very easy and nice teacher. she tries to keep it interesting but it is quite easy to zone out. bottom line is that her tests are easy and quizzes are online(you get 2 tries per quiz) and there is barely any hw(1 assignment per week). easy A
Take her class! She teaches in a clear manner. Follows the textbook by pointing out & explaining details from the textbook that she finds most important. Basically lectures the entire time, or lecture + in-class worksheet. Online hw (infinite tries) online test (2 tries per test) test every other week-ish (2-3 chapters per test) One take-home essay
A great Professor. Wants her students to succeed and gives plenty of extra credit in order to do so. Tests are easy for the most part and she goes over almost all the materials during class.
The only thing that saved my grade was the online homework and quizzes. I got a B in the class, I got a C or D on every test. I didn't feel like what we did in class was what what on the test. I went everyday to class and took notes. Her lectures were hard to follow and the textbook was useless too. It made my life very stressful.
Prof Monika Thomas is a great teacher. Her lectures are pretty organized, pretty easy online quizzes and homework. Although this class is not an easy A, she teaches really well and gives extra credit points on midterms. If you want to learn more about economics, then take her.
Monika is pretty easy as long as you take notes and actually pay SOME attention. I fell asleep in that class a lot and still got by with an A. She is kind of boring, but other than that, tests are based on lectures and homework/quiz problems. if you put in some effort, youll do fine. Lots of E.C at the end of the quarter too.
Prof Monika thomas is a great teacher. She teaches really well and she's very helpful. However, she gives tons of homework, quizzes and midterms. For those who are lazy, i don't recommend taking her class. Not an easy A class.
She is a great teacher and great person as well. She is very organized and intelligent. She cares about each student, giving us plenty of opportunities to succeed in the class. Besides, she is dedicated to improve her lecture based on students' reactions. Her class is not only excellent for learning concept of economics, but very pleasant to take.
One of my top five favorite profs at De Anza. Not a super easy class but not really hard either. Such a caring and organized prof. Lectures are well prepared, systematic, and easy to follow. Homework is easy but helpful and projects are not too bad. Hard to get feedback from midterms though, feedback only in office hours.
Ms. Monika is a great teacher. There is a lot of work involved, but she knows what she's doing.Though I dreaded her class at times, I learned quite a lot. She gives great notes, and I really enjoyed her class.
She is really good in teaching.
She is alright but she doesn't have much consideration for students who have responsibilities outside of school. 12 hrs of community service needed that need to be done with your "familia" members. Her only extra credit is a field trip. If you have no job or responsibilities it might be a good class, but if your busy stay away
Sometimes the quiz and the assignment include something she hasnt taught and gave us the materials right before the midterms. but overall she's clear and helpful, extra credits can cover most of the points you lost in midterm. A isnt hard! :) volunteer hours and presentation points are almost for free as long as you do it.
Pretty good teacher. I barely used the book because I took very good notes on all of her lectures. I got an A+ in her class. The REQUIRED COMMUNITY SERVICE was somewhat a drag for us. She sometimes fell off track from her schedule and there are some things on the syllabus that we didn't complete but I'm not complaining. I would recommend her
Nice instructor, really thoughtful and willing to help her student
You DON'T need to do your comm. service with your group, you can do it by yourself. Thomas is a good, patient professor. I didn't care for econ and still don't but I managed to do fairly well in the class by studying and showing up. Online homework, need textbook, she did not give our class extra credit options.
Pretty easy if you study, not sure if I'll get an A or B but out of the 4 midterms she dropped our lowest grade. Community service required but only 12 hours. Online homework (MyLab) with unlimited tries and MyLab quizzes with 2 tries.
She's funny in a motherly way. Teacher is nice but the class had more work than I expected. HW/quiz every 2 weeks, 4 exams, 1 final, community service hours, critical paper, and a group project.
VERY friendly, understanding if u can't make a test day, not intimidating. unclear notes, exams are nothing like her noteshwquizes. LONG HARD EXAMS. no one ever finishes her exams on time because they are timed (50 mins). i go to every class, go to tutoring, take all notes, read all chapters, get 100% on quizzes and hw but never pass the exams.
Professor Thomas is very friendly in a motherly way. She's very gentle. The material is quite easy. Textbook reading isn't necessary. Unlimited attempts on online homework and two on quizzes. 1 group presentation and 12 hours of community service. Lots of extra credit opportunity. Easy A even if you miss class, but she takes attendance.
She gives out lots of extra credit. I like her talk about Econ class. However, I just HATE her to spend 30 minutes talk about the news and things that are NOT really related with ECON. She does this every single day! Never use the time more efficient on teaching Econ. It leads almost all the lecture for the theory are rushing
dont need to buy the textbook. Come to each classes, take notes to what she say, you'll get an A
Just come to class everyday and take notes of what she said and you'll get an A.
Nicest lady. Very understanding if you're sick on test day. Tests are tough but the good thing is i still passed with a B even after I got D's and C's on every test
TAKE THE ADJUNCT SKILLS CLASS AND YOULL GET AN A!!!!
This class has so much work to do. there are a lot of extra credits for you, but if you do not study hard, extra credits will not work for you. She is a great teacher, and her lecture interest you in Economic. Study really hard and you will get an A.
It's hard not to pass this class. She constantly gives out opportunities to gain extra credit, you can do the online homeworks an unlimited number of times to get the A on them, she'll let you drop your lowest scoring midterm exam, and you can bring in a sheet of paper with all the formulas to the final. She's cool too.
Her lectures make the class. She's very clear in explaining concepts from the book. She gives you plenty of time to finish your HW so I recommend doing a little bit throughout the week. I'd say you could still do well if you don't use the textbook because her lectures are nice, and myeconlab has study guides and other aid. She is available for help
this has got to be the easiest class ive ever taken. I think most people just ditch class and dont study and thus fail. I do agree that you have to study but the tests are not hard at all. If you listen to the lectures and do the online quizzeshomework you are bound to get an A. There is a lot of extra credit and the community engagement helps.
I quite enjoyed this class despite the fact that the sole reason I took it was to fulfill my GE requirements. I do agree that sometimes her lectures get boring, but she tries to hamper the boredom through group activities, which were indeed fun. Tests are fair and should be easy as long as you read the book and listen to lectures. -Sri (Fall '14)
Super nice, cares about her students. Lectures very slow and clear (can get boring, but you know the material). Uses MyEconLab, assigns hw and take-home quizzes (which you can retake if you dont do well). Super easy tests if you do the online quizzes and homework. Great teacher, would recommend.
Her teaching style isn't too bad, but she doesn't review for exams and teaches new stuff the day before. She usually has the online homework and quiz due the night before the midterm. The day of our last midterm, there were 5 assignments also due. Don't expect email responses. I asked her my grade and she didn't know. Worst teacher Ive had at DA.
This was probably my favorite class this quarter. Thomas is a really great teacher and she's so cute and motherly. Her lectures really clarify the textbook reading and her tests are not too hard. I actually really enjoyed going to this class.
The only reason why I got an A- is because I took the test without understanding the concept. Test mostly on the lectures. So study the lecture notes, & online Homework and Quizzes you will surely get an A. 4 Test can drop one only if did Community Service 12 hours, Do the Extra Credits! Just in case you did bad on one exam or two. Non-resell book
The best! She is caring, intelligent, and kind. Take her if you can. Learn the HW online questions. I strongly recommend you to attend her office hours and clarify what you don't understand. Some concepts take a lot of time to understand, so ask her if you're not sure. Don't buy a textbook.
Very nice teacher but lecture can be boring. Quizzes are online with 2 attempts and exams are pretty much based on the quizzes. Gives A LOT of extra credit and also drops lowest test score. Do the online homework/quiz and you'll get an A
In general, her class was fairly easy. But sometimes it looks like she memorized what she need to say, and that's it. If you want to know more, you probably need to do it yourself.
She's a very nice professor who is really passionate about teaching and the subject. She loves to see her students learn and succeed. I really loved taking both of her econ classes, and I would recommend her to anyone!
She's nice. However I think she's annoyed of me because I kept going to her office and asking her to questions on things I don't get. She started getting frustrated with me because I didn't understand a concept. One day I had to ask her a question in class at the end and she said why don't I ask my group?? If they knew I would ask.
Monika is very knowledgeable in the field of economics. She has a very interesting background as well. There is only one group presentation, 4 exams, and the final. The rest of the homework and quizzes are online. Every assessment is straightforward and pretty easy. I never got below a 95% on any of them, and my class in general did very well.
She is nice however her teaching really sucks. I have finished the final but I still have a lot of concepts which I don't understand. You have to read the book and study by yourself in her class. Besides attendance is also part of your grade in her class so if you don't like to come to the lecture don't take her class
Thomas is solid professor but she's very general with her lectures. He lectures are more like the basic idea of a section rather than application. You'll understand what the section is about but you'll also have to read to prepare for her exams. Go to her lectures if you feel like it or read 10-20 pages a day from the book for the exam.
Hw due every week, 4 quizzes due before the exams and 5 exams including the final. There were three exams in the last three weeks of the quarter. Her teaching is vague and the overall class did progressively worse with each exam. You have to read the book and teach yourself. I attended almost every class and did all the work, and I still struggled.
Lectures are like nothing, and she discriminates Chinese
Lectures are mainly just to help you understand the concepts. If you want to be prepared for the tests and quizzes you'll have to read the book. Workload is pretty light. Online homework every week, read 10 pages of the textbook a day and study it, and show up to the lectures if you want and you'll pass. Guaranteed B and A if you study well.
She is great professor. there's 4 mid exams which means each exam is easy. half of problems on the exam are from online quiz. so As long as you do online homework and quizzes, and you go to the class, you'll get A. clear explanation, and great lecture. (Don't read the textbook. problems on the exam are only from lecture and online hw.)
Boring, boring, boring. Then again, I also took the class that was 2 and a half hours long each session so that did not help. Overall, not a great teacher-- unexciting or enthusiastic lecturer, unsure when we asked her rudimentary questions, used old textbook and same resources from years and years past. Easy class, but very boring.
Very good at teaching. Her lectures make you have a good understanding of economics. Although I'm not an econ major, her class made me have an appreciation of economics.
The most difficult thing about this class was that it was boring and it gets tiring after 2 hours of lecture. However her material is solid and is a very good teacher. Show up to class, take good notes, study and you'll pass.
50 minute class was great, any longer would probably be boring. Pretty easy A and lots of opportunities for extra credit. Thomas is super sweet and knowledgeable, and material is straightforward. Gets progressively more difficult, but never too bad. Homework is online and takes a while but is really easy.
Prof. Thomas is one of my favorite instructors I've taken at De Anza. She is passionate about her lectures and creates an engaging environment in her day to day discussions.. The class will combine econ with poli sci, ethics, and environmental studies on account that Prof. includes current events into her daily lectures. Highly recommend.
She doesn't cover all on HW, but it's just to have you study, I guess. I didn't read the textbook at all, I just asked several questions to Professor Google. She is always there for those who are eager to learn. However, she's just a professor for those who don't care about economics. Overall, she was great.
Her lecture notes directly corresponds to the midterm and finals so remember to firstly attend and take good notes in class. Study packets will be provided for the midterms (approx. 30 MCQs and 1-2 short answer) and also finals (all MCQs). Lots of extra credit opportunities available too! You'll do well with adequate effort.
Great Class Good teacher tons of extra credit Easy A
Honestly so many people in this class didn't care despite the fact it was so easy. Even if you're really bad at this subject for some reason if you do all the extra credit you'll get an A. As a teacher she can get a little dry at times but that comes with the subject to some degree.
Total 300 points. Infinite HW chances, quiz two chances worth total 40 points. 4 tests, community engagement can drop your lowest. Every test question worth 1 point yet up to 15 extra can be given. So, 3 tests one final, 279 for A. You can lose 21+15 points in 4 tests. How easy. I took both Econ 1and 2 in one quarter got 2 A+ with 10 extra each.
She is a nice professor. There are a lot of extra credit chances. There are several group activities, 1 presentation, 4 online quizzes, 4 exams and 1 final. The exam questions are pretty similar to the homework problems. I did read the textbook since she only discuss about main concept but not everything. Study guide for exams are provided.
Hello, Everyone I had a friend who took this class during the 2018 spring quarter and he explained to me that this professor is racist to him. She always picks on him when he is doing his very best. Monika was jealous of this proud intelligent good noodle student that she purposely failed him. Take her if you like these type of teachers thank you.
The online class is pretty straightforward. Everything is pretty easy so it's not too hard to get an A and she gives extra credit at the end but she changed due dates for homework a couple of times which was kind of annoying. As long as you check Canvas every day and do your work on time it's definitely an easy A. 10/10 would recommend!!
Way too much Homework! Each week, there are 2 Interactive learning. take 2-3 hours to do. It is an endless loop of Multiple choice questions. The same questions keep coming back even after you got it correct. 50 Questions homework each week. Prepare to spend at least 2 hours on the homework. Homework is on web assign, need to pay $70.
her lecture is equal to useless. teaches nothing in the lecture, you have to read and study by yourself. The questions in the Interactive learning and homework are not taught in lecture. Economics itself is easy, but she makes this class so hard by giving so much homework! Very stingy with extra credit, 20 HOURS of community service to get only 3%.
Giving honest advice, do not take her! I am a Straight A student and got my only B in her class. There is way too much work per week and you basically teach yourself, especially in the online class. She says she is willing to help but seeing her in her office doesn't make a difference. She doesn't really explain and expects you to understand. 0/10
Super hard class! If you just want a GE, do NOT take her. Each week: 50 multi choice questions homework plus 50 multiple choice questions DSM. 4 midterms each 50 questions (1 hour). 4 Quiz each 50 questions. Extra credit: 1-hour turtor group each week: 2%. Extra credit event:1%, community service 10hours:3%. Self teach 99% of the material.
The online class had a LOT of work. Easy thing was that everyone could easily be googled. If you want to learn do not take her, she doesn't do anything but throw you with slides and notes. 5 500 word "discussions" which were graded harshly and had to have a lot of sources. Easy to get a high grade because 90% of the stuff can be found on Quizlet.
Smart and caring professor. Be ready to do a lot of homework. However, if you do the homework, you will do well on the test. Course prepared me for upper division economic courses.
Not sure why there are so many negative comments. Her class was not super easy but getting an A is possible. Come to class and pay attention, understand her online hw/quizzes, and practice concepts before the mc tests and you will get an A! She offers 6% of ec but it requires a ton of volunteering and you need to be enrolled in adjunct skills.
I enjoyed this course, which I took online for an environmental science prerequisite. Class is very well structured, with digital study/homework/quizzes that build towards getting a good grade on the exams. Written assignments add interest and variety. Nice extra credit boost. Prof Thomas was engaged & helpful and responds to emails.
I enjoyed her class a lot. I particularly enjoyed how Professor Thomas talked about current events a lot. This gave a lot of context to the material we were learning.
I took her online class over the summer but it was a lot of assignments to do over six weeks and I barely passed the class. My advice is to take someone better than her bc she gave way too much homework over a six week summer term.
for online classes everything is on myeconlab except for discussions. she grades hard for discussions so beware. tests are not easy and doesn't give a lot of time, but if you work fast you'll be fine. notes/slides don't help, study khan. responds quickly to emails and gives a 10pt ec. no late work accepted not even hw. exams are day after quiz
3 Canvas discussions that are basically mini essays, and everything else on Pearson MyLab Econ. I never read the textbook, I just brute forced the homework (MC, it tells you the concepts and lets you retry) and learned everything that way. The Quizzes & Exam are the same exact format as the homework, and they are scheduled on back-to-back days.
Took Macro and Micro with her. Pretty easy classes especially if you just take the time to read. Very easy if you just read then do the online hw and quizzes. 3 discussion topics. Managebale class and she sends a lot of reminders for due dates.
Really good teacher. Lots of reading to be expected, but good grades are attainable if you do the work. Was given 4 quizzes (open note and retake available), 4 exams, and 3 dialogues throughout the entire quarter. Also gave an extra credit essay opportunity. Very reachable throughout the course and seems very passionate about what she teaches.
If you wanna easy A, take her, her lectures are so easy to understand and she's awesome.
She was a great teach for an online microecon class. She was always open to send messages to and she replied really fast. She also gave multiple extensions to everyone in the class for discussion and hw posts which was really helpful. Also reopened a midterm after my computer crashed so great teacher overall!
A very kind professor who was very understanding of technological issues. Her class is easy if you put the time into the class and follow her guidelines.
This is an easy class if you read the textbook, lecture notes, PowerPoints, and do all the assigned works. Although the workload is very heavy, it's still possible to get a good grade. There are a total of four midterm exams, and a quiz comes before each midterm. Just put in your effort and try your best, then guarantee that it'll be an easy A.
Weekly homework, 4 quizzes, 4 midterms, 1 final (all grading on MyEconLab), 2 discussions and an optional extra-credit essay, seems a lot, but they are managable. She provides PowerPoints, lecture notes, Person Ebook, and videos for each chapter. I recommand to take her if you would like to study on your own and like to read.
Prof.Thomas is really fun and her class is chill asf. The midterm was due at 11:05 pm (she reminded us of this many times) and I thought it was at 11:59 pm LOL. I only got through 1/3 of it. Emailed her for an extension and she was one of the fastest-replying teachers I've ever had. Gave me an extension and got a good grade on it. Take her!
The professor is great, but please note that the only extra credit offered is 3%, and it requires a challenging 5-page research paper. However, Professor Thomas exhibited care and respect for their students. As long as you study diligently and complete the homework, you should be fine.
Thomas was a great professor for microeconomics. She's really accessible and very helpful so if you don't understand the subject material she's more than willing to help out. There is a lot of homework but it's manageable and she gives you enough time to do everything. If you're looking for an econ professor I would definitely recommend her.
Professor was fine and okay if you are someone who can self-study, however if no, you might not like her class too much. Her lectures are pretty basic and don't cover much beyond surface level. In that regard, you will need to do most of the learning and studying in your own time to succeed in this class. Not the best, not the worst. Average.
I took the online class. I really appreciated how well organized and structured the class was. There was never a time where I wasn't sure how things would be graded, or when things would be due. There was very clear written communication. It made it easy to go at my own pace. As long as you study, and complete the assignments, you should be fine.
Takes attendance for participation points. Have to purchase Pearson to do all hw, quizzes & exams. Weekly hw, 4 quizzes, 4 exams and 1 final. EC essay optional. She always reminds you that assignments are due at 11pm, but I forgot once and she gave me an extension. Lectures don't go in depth, you have to teach yourself the harder stuff.
Have to buy $70-80 online txtbook + app to do hmk, quizzes, and tests-Grade is based on homework which has unlimited tries per quiz-You get 2 tries per quiz-Tests/Exams 1 try. 2 Discussions, 2 replies minimum(not that bad)-She gives you the assignment unlocked two days before its due. She gives you an hour+ sum 4 time-Also, no lockdown browser...
i actually wanted to attend lectures, informative and insightful. but self study is mandatory as she wont cover everything in class, very doablw
There was 1 assignment per week, a lot of the assignments are group assignments so hopefully you get a good group, she gives good study guides for the midterm and final, overall the topics were pretty interesting to learn about
