PROF. LEWIS IS FAIR-MINDED AND COMMITTED TO PREPARING HER STUDENTS FOR SUCCESS IN THE REAL WORLD. SHE WAS KNOWLEDGEABLE AND TREATED US LIKE INDEPENDENT ADULTS.
English 112
She is very helpful at giving ideas on papers and wants you to be a great writer. I did not like her at first b/c she is strict. But I learned how to write very well in her class. I also recieved A's in my other classes for my papers because of my structure and organization. Which I learned from her.
Ive had her for two semester now... and i remember the 1st semester i was so scared... i had nightmares with her first speech...("I WILL NOT") but at the end she ended up being my fav teacher. Yeah she is strick but she wants you to do well...i recommend this teacher for anyone that is willing to commit.
Ms. Lewis is a very helpful teacher that wants all her students to be good writers. She might seem scary and strict at first, but she is very very good at what she does. She helped me with organizing and crafting my essays. Her teaching and techniques are the best Germanna can offer! :)
Miss Lewis is truelly one of thwe best teacher in GCC. She WANTS her students to become better writters. And she is devoted to trying her best to help you become better.
Mo. Lewis is a great teacher and is one of the most helpful professors in the GCC! :)
Best professor at Germanna. She's very helpful during and after class. Her papers are a little tough. She let me rewrite a paper to help my grade. Great teacher
I don't think it was understood that we were freshman writers. I feel that the professor should edit the work, not my peers who were as lost as I was. That way if a student has a problem with writing, it will be made known prior to getting an F on a paper so proper help can be made available.
I had Mrs.Lewis for both English 111 and 112, she is by far THE BEST professor at germanna. Yes the work is hard, and she def makes you work for your grade, but you'll become a great writer! Very easy to talk to. She actually cares unlike most instructors at germanna. Amazing teacher.
Good for English 112, definitely made me become a better writer. She's inspirational
I have learned a lot in Ms. Lewis's class. She has helped me form my essay structure and thought process. Although she is strict, if you follow her rules exactly (which she makes perfectly clear) you'll do fine. Very active in class lectures and she involves the whole class. I would take her class again anyday!
sHE IS VERY HARD. most likely you will get a LOW grade on the first paper. She is very helpful and is there as long as you come to her. Paper topics are somewhat interesting.
Took ENG 112, my writing has improved b/c of her. There is 5 papers and you're given about 2 weeks to write them. Stick w/ her structure and the point and you'll do well :] She may come off scary but she is really nice.
Ms. Lewis makes what would seem like a boring lecture into an entertaining and educational experience. Very helpful in the work given and makes you work for your grade. I'm signing up for 112 with her as well!
Ms. Lewis is a great instuctor. You will do well in her class as long as you follow her directions and read the Syllabus! She If you want to learn how to write she is the teacer for you. Not only is she knowledgable, but she is helpful and inspirational! I am definitely signing up for her 112 class!
Ms. Lewis is a wonderful lady, she really takes the time out to help you. I learn a lot of her class. Just follow directions and do all the papers and homework assignments and you will do fine! The first paper you will get a low score on, but everyone does so don't worry! TAKE HER CLASS! I am taking her 112 class next semester!
She has this way about her and it works. She strict and tough but in the end you thank her for it. Take this class if you want to learn how to write correctly.
Once you understand what she is looking for it is easy, but lots of work.
this teacher is great. her lectures are funny, she is fun to listen too occasionally boring but she is good. she is helpful. if you take this class be prepared for her strictness. she doesnt give many papers but they are hard. i enjoyed her class, im taking 112 with her:)
Great teacher. Very clear as to what she is expecting. If youre willing to work, shes willing to help. very simple. be on time, write the papers, and make sure theyre in a clean, professional folder. ill be taking her 112 class.
I'd never recommend this teacher to anyone. She is an extremely harsh grader, and the amount of work that goes into each paper will consume more than the normal amount of time an English class of this level should. By the end of the semester there were only about six students left. That should be proof enough. You will not get an A in her class.
Mrs. Lewis was inspirational and helped me to learn how to write a good paper. She gives you two weeks per paper! Pay attention to her rules, put an effort into your work, and don't wait till the last minute to do homework and you'll be great. She's strict, but a really good teacher.
She is an awesome teacher. As long as your follow her clearly defined rules and read the comments she writes on your papers you'll be in great shape.
She is really helpful and explains assignments clearly BUT she is a hard grader. I have always gotten A's on my papers and yet in this class I ended up with a bunch of C's but ended up with a B. I wrote about 5 papers, and attendence is optional.
I didn't like this teacher at all. Her learning objectives were unclear, and then she expected so much from our papers. I was thoroughly confused the entire course. Fortunately, I passed the class. DO NOT TAKE ANY OF HER CLASSES!
Don’t take this teacher! Ms. Lewis is by far one of the worst teachers I have ever had. She is extremely tough and grades very strictly. I took her class online and it was horrible!
I've taken her in person before and really liked it, however I HATED her online class. Everything is confusing and unclear. The setup of blackboard makes it difficult to find anything. She has a ZERO late acceptance rule, which can be difficult for those of us working and going to school. Basically I recommend taking her in person, not online.
Miss Lewis has a very poorly laid out blackboard. It is difficult to follow. She does have very clear expectations for writing a paper, however when 1 paper is worth 25% of your grade if you dont do well there isnt much room correction & bringing your grade up. I feel like Miss Lewis may be suited to teach higher level (grad school) students.
Her class started off as being hard, but later on in the semester the class started to get easier. So don't think of dropping out this class because the first paper is low grade. It would have to make minor adjustments in your part to fully understand her class.
I really like her as not only a professor but as a person as well. She seems to care about her students and how they do as long as interest is shown. She will gladly help you if you go to her conferences. I struggled in her class only because I was not prepared to write at a college level but she certainly attempts to bring her students up to par.
I am in her class right now. At first, I thought she was awful and way too strict. Especially she gave my first paper a F. But I got a F because of not following directions. Ever since then I've gotten A's on every paper. She's helped me so much and I've seen such an improvement in my writing. She's a great teacher.
I will never take another class form this woman. She is not clear at all in what she wants you to do and refuses to talk about assignments after she's returned them. She doesn't teach, she just expects you to already know the information. Her Blackboard is extremely disorganized and confusing. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!
Professor Lewis expects a lot of tricky details in her papers. Many of these she does not mention at all. The notes she writes on graded papers are not helpful in the hope of improving the next one. She is very rude at times with comments like "Duh" written all over graded papers. The only plus was the lack of lectures and work.
Her syllabus is from 2013, it's 2015- enough said. I am in her online class& having a crap syllabus is not okay bc when you email her for help all she says is "Report to syllabus". Her blackboard is very confusing. She is unbelievable rude &disrespectful. Her essay comments are vague & don't help you understand what to do to improve. Do not take!
She would not help with any paper or look over your work before submitting it. She would not return papers to you so you can correct any problems while writing the next paper.
Professor Lewis was definitely harder than I expected. She was really cool for the first 10 or so weeks of the semester, and then she kind of turned on us. Definitely plan out the last few weeks of this class because that is when all but one assignment are due. Get ready to work if you take one of her classes.
If you've been in the military, her teaching style will remind you of that. In the good sense. She tells you up front what she wants, and explains how she wants it. Still confused? She will be happy to help. Also allows you to sit down with her and look over your paper before turn it in so you get a good grade on it. You get what you put into this.
In order to pass this class you need to have the syllabus with you everyday. Take good notes when she talks about a paper you're about to write, because she says everything she expects. Always bring in rough drafts and your thesis and you'll get at least a C+ in the class. People only dislike the class because they don't do the work.
She's very helpful! I learned a lot in this class about how to properly format a paper, and each time I wrote a paper it got better. She gives really clear instructions available the first day, you could complete her class at the beginning if you wanted. She does try to help you out if you start to struggle too, even if it's your fault.
In the beginning of the class, professor Lewis and I didn't get along because of her harsh and sassy commentary to questions, nearing the middle of the semester I confronted her on my grade reflecting on her feelings towards me and she made a complete 360, and began helping me understand where I was going wrong and the whole misunderstanding.
She is an amazing professor, but she grades extremely harshly. I would recommend taking another professor unless you're considering majoring in some sort of writing. This is clearly a challenge, and I've contemplated dropping on multiple occasions.
Mrs. Lewis seems like she would be a lot of fun outside of class but her teaching is unprofessional. She is curt and snappy when asked simple questions, gives very little actual English instruction, is overly pedantic when it comes to paper formatting, and has ridiculous hurdles to jump over when handing in assignments. Would not recommend.
Miss Lewis is very nice but I didn't like the way she ran this class. She is very demanding when it comes time for her to grade papers. She doesn't like to answer questions that students have during her lectures and acts like we should already know the material. I learned a decent amount in her class but don't enjoy her overly harsh grading.
She is a nice lady, but she definitely has some sass. Don't ask questions about due dates, because it's always in the syllabus. My essay grades were poor in the beginning, but progressed as the semester went on. She will reward you if you stay in the class. As the class got smaller, my grade got higher. Show dedication and she will respond to it!
This Professor is terrible. She gives terrible grades when she doesn't like you, and doesn't fix grades that she marked you down for, even when she acknowledges that she made a mistake; saying that she is too busy to change it. Ridiculous.
While Ms. Lewis is very funny in class and does a fine job with connecting students through humor and funny examples, her actual teaching is very difficult to work with. To put it simply, she's one of those teachers where you ask a legitimate question and her answer will always be: "Refer to the syllabus" or, "I've already answered that question."
A semester of harsh grading and pointless lectures that don't have anything to do with the course material are what you can expect.
She is a hard grader, but the grade you get is the grade you earned. If you talk to her about a grade she is willing to work with you.
You don't get graded by many things. But you're be getting several books. The most I have had for a class. If you have the opportunity to complete homework ahead of time, DO IT. She made a couple of changes to syllabus without notifying anyone. She's going to make you work for that grade. If you slack off, I do not recommend this class.
If you want to learn how to write an amazing paper, you need to take Professor Lewis's class. She is going to beat the exact steps to writing a perfect essay into your head. Completely worthwhile, and while her standards and outlines are almost militaristic, Professor Lewis is exceptional at giving helpful feedback and assistance.
Worst professor in my entire associates degree. She didn't answer emails. She didn't answer on blackboard. When I told her about a problem I was having the only reply I ever received was check the syllabus. When I got behind because I was missing reading material she told me she knew there was a problem. She does absolutely nothing to help you.
I took both 112 and 112 with her and didn't have a hard time. I'm not an English person so being able to follow her format for the papers was a great help. But don't take her class if you won't follow her format because you will fail. The main things needed to know to pass are how to follow the format, be aware of BB and the syllabus.
I'll be honest I did not like her at first because of the grades I got on the first few papers. She changed my mind. She is funny and easy to talk to but word of advice for ENG 111 students, follow her directions on how she wants the paper laid out to a T. Do exactly what she says, save the creativity, and you'll do well. Turns out she was awesome!
I took ENG 111 this fall with her. She is so sassy haha. She's a fair but a tough detailed grader. You need to pay attention to details of the assignments and her syllabus. It's not about creativity in her class, it's about format. However what she teaches will improve your writing. She expects you to be an adult and handle your self.
If you are already proficient in English and don't need assistance whatsoever without backhanded comments or unclear direction on assignments go ahead and take this class. Oh! And you dont know your grade until 2 weeks before class ends. She doesn't input grades! Ever!
She is a really good teacher. She knows what she is talking about. She can be a little confusing but, she will call you out if you look confused. She really funny and breaks down how to write for dummies.
She takes points off if you're late to class, even a few minutes. Every little detail you get wrong she takes points off, even on your first paper (Which most teachers go easy on). If you like a annoyingly hard challenge, shes the teacher for you.
Professor Lewis is tough, but because of her class I have been able to ace all of my essays for all my other classes. She actually teaches you how to write and she gives you notes and advice that are going to help you so much in the long run. Take this class and you'll be prepared for every other essay ahead of you.
Doesnt grade clearly, nice but blunt, doesnt put in grades until THE END OF THE SEMESTER! Not very clear on what she wants, I got a B- and a lot of my class failed- beware.
I'll admit, I was intimidated by Professor Lewis at first, but I warmed up to her. I have great respect for her as an instructor; I think she has honestly prepared me for English 112. On writing papers, make sure to focus more on the STRUCTURE aspect. This is her main focus. I wish I could take her for English 112.
Professor Lewis is a great instructor that does an amazing job preparing students for future English classes. Shes an extremely tough grader, but with good reasoning as she wants students to understand the proper nuances of writing. She genuinely cares, and goes above and beyond making sure her students succeed.
Prof. Lewis is a great person overall, but there is no work besides papers. The papers are strictly graded on the structure.
Mrs. Lewis does not come to play, she gives very explicit guidelines of what she wants and she makes sure you stick to them. Her course is not for everyone but if you are wiling to put the work in it is well worth it. She is the best English professor I have had and she taught me how to correctly write papers for every class. She appreciates effort
She is pretty strict with her grading, but she always explains the problems that she may have with your work. Also, lots of reading is involved so take some time to read the material, or you wont be prepared for discussions.
She is very hard at grading. She doesn't help you with anything, you think you are going to get a great grade because you tried your best on an assignment but no. she is horrible at grading everything. Her grading is awful because if you miss one punctuation or just doesn't have one paper in your folder she gives you a F automatically.
Worst teacher I have ever had. Doesn't respond to emails and responds to honest questions with snark. She has an agenda to push and will give you a bad grade if your writing doesn't align with it. Avoid taking her class if possible.
Professor Lewis is truly an incredible teacher an person overall. My assumption would be that the individuals who gave her low ratings were not willing to put the work in and really try to learn because she will teach you EVERYTHING you need to know to succeed in moving forward. Take her class and pay attention, you will REALLY learn and progress.
Maybe it was because the course was online, but this class seemed way harder than expected. She really doesn't show you how to do things, she kind of just expects you to know them already. She also doesn't accept late work so make sure work is turned in on time.
For being in the middle of a pandemic, new to college, and having to move online, this English freshmen class was unreasonably difficult. No matter how much I tried to listen to her lectures, follow her example, and my peers reviews, Id always be hit with a devastating C or D. Her canvas is extremely disorganized and confusing to follow also.
She is very unorganized everything is out of place. She is such a tough grader, I work hard on each assignment thinking Im doing great but ends up getting a bad grade and when she gives feedback she comes off very smart as if your dumb. If I was you I wouldnt take her. Save yourself!
I took this class during the spring of 2020. In the first 3 months, it was in-person and it was extremely difficult for it being an entry-level English class. Her lectures are very interesting and funny, but thats the only pro. Some of her feedback comes off as rude and most of the time its not very helpful.
Started the first day telling us she is proud of how barely anyone passes her class. assigns multiple essays and assignments at once with only a day to do them. Assigns homework on days we did not have class without informing students. Constantly updating the syllabus without warning or informing. Very disorganized.
Unorganized, Syllabus wasn't correct, and the feedback is incredibly vague and not helpful. Told us that if we have complaints about her teaching style to drop the class because shes the english head. Second day of class she brings in someone from tutoring to explain that they wont be able to help us. Writes deadlines to withdraw on papers
All the comments about her being smart and coming off rude is all true. The only upside was she did give extra credit. Not sure why she is so abrupt but she will not except no late work and no excuses. Do every assignment on time and follow all directions. Ask class mate if you have questions.
The syllabus was difficult to read, uses words incorrectly when giving feedback, expects you to know the material right away, misguiding information from both her and tutor, no late assignments or you'll fail, treats you as if your unintelligent... I mean the list goes on.
Professor Lewis is very clear on what she expects from the papers you turn in. If you follow the specific directions you will pass this class with flying colors. If you have questions she is easy to talk to.
Have to follow her essay organization exactly or else she takes off points, but she does provide good feedback. Does not accept late work.
She made me feel as if I was dumb and she is very rude and always gets smart when you ask a question. I do not recommend her class at all!!! I have never received anything lower than a B since I started college, and not to toot my own horn but my papers are always above and beyond, well organized, etc. She belittles students. Beware of her class.
Don't take ANY class given by this teacher. This is the WORST teacher I have ever had. None of the material is easy to find, none of the assignments are adequately explained, her feedback is awful. She started grading me better when I intentionally wrote bad papers. Also, formatting doesn't matter. Followed her formatting AND WAS MARKED OFF FOR IT.
She is an understanding person sometimes but she is a tough grader who will not give you any feedback until it is your final paper by then it won't matter. She will turn you away if you ask her to give feedback on how to better your paper and she will not read your essay if it is longer than 5 pages even if she tells you it has to be.lot of effort.
Awful professor with a terrible work ethic. Her whole setup is chaotic and hard to follow with no clear way to understand the material. Very insulting to ones work, and offers little to no feedback that isn't an insult. Do NOT take this class if she is your professor.
Prof. Lewis was a very caring and understanding person, and I appreciated how she would give us prompts to write about. However, her course tended to be chaotic and hard to understand, requiring you to read instructions multiple times to understand what an assignment entailed. She also tends to be a harsh grader, with confusing feedback
Incredibly tough and over the top grader, isn't helpful whatsoever. Disorganized.
Professor Lewis is very clear on what she is requiring of students. She has videos to watch before each unit that details the requirements for each assignment. Weekly discussion boards, where your response is uploaded then peer reviews required for full credit. The tutor assigned to the class was very helpful and held weekly tutor proof sessions.
Unhelpful and rude. Has her class set up as confusing as possible and wont help if you fall behind or are confused.
Grade tough and no reasonable.
Absolutely horrible being her student. She's very rude, insulting, and doesn't take any accountability for any miscommunication errors. She's a tough grader and will drill your grade into the dirt. Her attitude towards work and students makes it so you don't want to come forward with questions. Mainly, because you don't want to be insulted.
Prof. Lewis had a format that was confusing, with assignments grouped by importance rather by date due. Her lectures seemed long and repetitive. Feedback was mainly unhelpful. Rubric papers and other instructions irked me, they were very helpful, but full of mistypes, unneeded capitalizations and other errors. Not many assignments.
Overall, a pretty difficult class reading wise. ENG 258 has an online discussion board every 2 weeks, and the readings are often 100+ pages, or a 3 hour long film, just for the single assignment. Not a lot of feedback, but chosen readings were informative, and I found the topics interesting. Maybe take her class.
Professor Lewis has a hard time being in-depth with corrections. She tells her students to not email her even though the course was online... Her canvas page is VERY unorganized, so be ready to search for your assignments. If Monique Lewis happens to be your teacher, fair warning you might want to rethink enrolling in her course!
Professor Lewis was very nice, but if you have technical issues or problems with turning in work late don't bother taking English with her. She has a strict no late work policy.
For your peace and sanity and so you can sleep at night don't do it. She is awful and will make you think about dropping out completely. i'll pray for you if you take her course. i've warned you.
