She is a professor that wants her students to learn. SHe is very helpful and from what I have heard so much better than any of the other teachers. SHe does lots of problems and she puts very similar problems on the test. She wants everybody to get a good grade, but the material is hard. Go to most classes, you can skip once in a while. Take her!
guaranteed A
she is an helpful. she wants her students to get a good grade. she provide essay questions and if u don't know, come to her office hour and she'll helps u for all the answer. she provides alot of extra credit.
She's a very nice lady and she will help you if you ask or attend her office hours. She's kinda hard to understand and it's not the most exciting class...bottom line: have someone sign you in! lol
Very helpful professor. Kind of hard to understand because of her accent but she's still very helpful. I'm an arts major and no interest in science whatsoever but she made the class less complicated than it seems. Attendance is not necessarily mandatory but it would help you if you're on a borderline to a higher grade. Take her!
She is very helpful. Eventhough she has an accent, she tried really hard for the students to understand the materials. Sit infront of the class because it will help you better understand her accent. She is really fair; she wants all her students to get good grades, to only those who deserves it. Study the powerpoints and her online homework.
She is a caring teacher who is interested in students doing well. The quizzes were quite simple and straightforward if you understand the examples she goes over in class and the assigned textbook examples for that chapter. She does not pick difficult questions for the exams. Its helpful to review powerpoint examples and the sample textbook "?"s.
One of the best physics prof on campus. Weekly quizzes and exams are not hard. No turn-in hmwrks. Go to her review sessions, it helps for all exams! Go over some probs step-by-step and exams Qs look similar. Give some EC to boost up grades. Willing to start exam 7:30am (she teaches 8-8:50 mwf) to give students extra time for 50min exam. Highly rec!
Awesome teacher, lectures very clear and quizzes are extremely helpful for preparing for the test. Review sessions are also very helpful. With a little work an A or B is definitely within reach. Just an all around great teacher who really shows she cares about your grade. Also offers a little extra credit after each test.
she's a nice lady. HOWEVER, this was the FIRST class that I have ever almost failed, so i end up dropping it. i think the subject itself was too hard for me. she's nice and cares. but her accent is soooo hard to understand. not an easy a, 'cause more than half the class failed the first test. i'd just skip out on astr and go w/ something else.
Her quizzes and midterms were straightforward. Her earlier quizzes and midterms are slightly harder but as the class progress her tests become relatively easy. I think she tried to make students feel serious about her class and make those who ain't serious to drop her class early cuz 2nd midterm and final are easier compare to 1st midterm
I hate sci b/c its too hard. She made this class alot easier than the other profs teaching it. You have 2 test and a final. She provides you a st.guide and very helpful study sessions where she sort of hints to the answrs. Attendence is must b/c she uses this if you are on borderline grade. Take her, she is funny and very helpful. TAKE HER!
pretty straightforward. first midterm was hard but the 2nd, 3rd, and final was easy. have to do the hw problems in order to do well in quizzes and exams. take her! the problems she puts on the exams is what she goes over in class and from the hw so yeah....its possible to get an A in this class if you work at it
Awesome professor!!! I loved her! Explains super clearly. Actually made physics managable. If you want to learn the material well I totally recommend her. Of course you have to attend lecture and do homework like any other class.
great teacher very helpful highly suggestn taking her!
Excellent professor. You must STUDY for her class, the quizzes, and the tests. That said, her exams come from the problems in lecture (mostly) and text- not tricky. Ask questions. She is very dedicated to helping you learn the material - visit her in office hours. (If you are not good at algebra/ math, get good to do well.) Highly recommend.
I meant PHYS 100A. ..You must STUDY for her class, the quizzes, and the tests. That said, her exams come from the problems in lecture (mostly) and text- not tricky. Ask questions. She is very dedicated to helping you learn the material - visit her in office hours. (If you are not good at algebra/ math, get good to do well.) Highly recommend.
She is such a great professor! She is very dedicated and you can see it in her gestures. It is not hard at all if you study a little. The final is very broad and not detailed at all. 3 exams...about 6 hws & 1 paper. Extra credit for going to the observatory. The more she knows you, the more easier it'll be. Sit in the front!
huge curve 88=A and 75-87=B. tests are hard.Homework is easy. she posts some of the questions online w/answers; teaches at Fullerton too which is why some are online. Just surf the web. 3 tests. 6 homeworks. A Paper. Should be able to get a B easily. attendance sucks; lectures are boring, hard to understand (accent), Overall okay teacher.
She is an okay teacher, but she does seriously curve all of the grades. Just do the homework (tip: look up the hmk questions on the internet, you will find most of the answers there), the essay, and EXTRA CREDIT! it boosted everyone's grade by 4 percentage points or so. Her exams aren't too difficult, but going to her review sessions helps. she has
To say that Prof Geier loves astronomy is an UNDERSTATEMENT! The class starts out interesting, but gets very boring as each week passes. Tests are multiple choice, but they are NOT very easy. Getting a B isn't too hard because you only need 75%, and an A is 88%. Make sure you do the extra credit. It will help you out at the end! "Mare-cure-eee!"
Geier is a great teacher. She really cares about her students and sincerely wants everyone to receive a good grade in the class. She is very helpful and very approachable. Her tests are not very hard if you study for them. Make sure that you do ALL of the lab work and take home experiments. They are easy points.
She is a great teacher. She wants to make sure that you get an A in the class. There are 2 midterms and a noncumulative final, all multiple choice. There are 6 homework assignments, also multiple choice, and some appear in the final. She has a review session before every single test and an extra credit which helps a lot!
highly recommended professor. she wants to make it easy for students to pass the class by giving easy tests, non comulative final, mutiple choice tests and hw, and extra credit. She is very nice and approachable, wish there more teachers like her. LOVED HER CLASS!!!
3 multiple choice tests, about 7 lab assignments (easy points!) and iclicker quizzes (she doesn't care if you get the right answer as long as you're there to click it you get points) Overall, just study her powerpoints, which she posts on beachboard and you will do just fine!
Some iClicker questions came from homework, so you can get direct answers from class. Some homework questions were on the test, so it's very helpful do study the homework questions. Noncumulative final! =D Powerpoint lectures online. Book not required but is helpful. Pay attention and tests shouldn't be too hard. Nice teacher. :) Do extra credit!
Physics is hard so you will have to STUDY AHEAD OF TIME. That's just a fact. No cramming the night before. She's awesome. Explains things clearly, and is very approachable. She covered all the material even with furloughs and made it manageable. TAKE HER if you want to learn and survive physics.
She's a good professor overall. Class fairly graded. It is physics, so expect studying. Only thing I didnt like was that she does have favorites, which I found annoying. Other than that, she's the professor to take for physics.
VERY GOOD TEACHER! Has a little accent, but is still very clear. Explains everything very well and truly has the desire for you to learn/master it all. Very helpful. Her class does seem to get easier through the semester. Final was culmalative, but it wasn't very hard as I thought. Definitely recommend taking her!
Well, I have never taken a physics class before not even in highschool and got a B. However, be prepared to study a lot more than the average class. Lab helps the score a lot and she really wants you to do well and go to her office hours. Absolutely no reason why you shouldn't at last pass. With a little elbow grease a better grade is possible!
Great teacher! Always willing to help. Do the homework and you should do good on the tests.
she taught this class like everyone had taken a physics class before. i think she forgot that it was a 100 level course. she only spent time on topics that she said no one had learned before and frequently said "you have all taken physics class before so you know this already". it is not fair and you will work your ass off
hard class. exams are difficult. my only C in college. take something else to fulfill your GE requirement.
Really good teaching, she goes over everything, attendence is mandatory for iclicker points, only 5 take home experiments, 3 tests, the study guides cover everything and extra credit.
Enjoyed this class because she really made the effort to make the material clear and interesting. She makes all the information available to study - lectures, multiple choice questions, and quizzes - to do well in this class. Reasonable expectations and willing to help if needed.
She explains everything very well and you will learn so much in here class by attending lectures. Extreamly helpful. Class is still difficult because her test are so hard. Try hard in lab to boost your grade.
This class is very do-able as long as you actually study and come to class. She does everything in her power to help you succeed except sit down and study with you. If you have any issues at all, go to her for help and she will make every effort to help you understand. She is also pretty entertaining to listen to.
I felt bad for this professor as sometimes the students were disrespectful. I didn't read the book after the first exam, and she kind of lost me after the second exam, but I still got a B in her class. I think its fairly easy to pass if you study her powerpoints and her online homework. Overall, easy class (but kind of boring at times).

Science is a tough subject for me but Prof Geier is a GREAT teacher! She breaks things down and goes over concepts repeatedly. Go to class, do all of your assignments, do the extra credit, and study for your tests, and you will do great!
Dedicated professor. Entertaining and makes a rather difficult class manageable and at times fun. She is readily and available for office hours. Overall you can tell she cares about her students and wants them to do well.
Do not buy the textbook as she gives you so many different resources to use. I got an A and never purchased the book. Study her power points. Her accent is not as difficult to understand as people say. She is very passionate and covers the material thoroughly. There are never any surprises with her. Highly recommended!
Dr. Geier is friendly and really helpful. Her office hours are always available and she truly wants her students to do well and pass. People say she's hard and all, but physics is generally a hard course for most people so prepare to study your arse off. there are 3 exams, weekly quizzes, iclicker points, and a cumulative final
LOVED Dr. Geier's class...fairly difficult material, but definitely take the SI section and USE HER OFFICE HOURS! The problem examples she does in lecture will be nearly identical to questions on the exam.
I really enjoyed this class and Professor Geier. As long as you go to class everyday, pay attention, and take good notes, you will be absolutely fine. She gives iclicker questions everyday and I would suggest writing them down with the answers (they show up on the exams). Work hard and study and you'll be good to go! Great professor!
LOVE Dr. Geier. She is one of my absolute favorite professors..Took Phys 100A with her in the Spring and now have her for 100B in Fall. USE HER OFFICE HOURS! Get to know her because this will definitely help your grade if it is on the border. Exams are VERY similar to the sample exams she provides the class with. Highly recommend her!
I think she's the most entertaining science teacher I've ever had. Overall, everything's incredibly easy. She's easy to understand without going to slow. She understands that ASTR 100 is a GE class and she teaches it as such. No equations, just concepts.
It's a science class, so don't expect it to be super easy. You can pass if you push yourself a little (study the questions from the hw and the ones she gives in class b/c a lot of them are on the tests). Attendance is mandatory (you get points). 1 midterm, 1 final, online homework. Grade is curved. I-clicker is used.
I LOVE this professor & took 100A/B with her! REALLY cares about her students & wants them to do well. Take whatever you can with her. Shes EXTREMELY passionate about subject which makes this class a bit easier & funner. Shes funny, speaks 5 languages & is a really cool person if you get to know her. Hard class but A is manageable although I got B
Boy, where do I start with this woman. Extremely kind, helpful, and will go out of her way to help you succeed. She motivates you to do well! Super sweet lady and really passionate about physics.
Great teacher! Very clear and helpful! She's also really enthusiastic about what she teaches which makes the class fun.
At first I did not know anything about Physics. I did not take high school physics but, under her instruction, found a new interest. She is just wonderful, she will teach lectures with passion, she will hold review sessions every week and she will sit with you, one on one and go over physics problems to make sure you understand the material.
Geier is the most adorable teacher ever! She is very helpful and wants to see her students succeed. She tries really hard in helping everyone pass. Geier also is very friendly and has a sense of humor. Will definitely try to have PHYS 100B with her. :D
Geier is SUCH a good professor! She realizes ASTR 100 is mainly a GE course for non-science majors, so she makes her class focus on concepts rather than math equations. Grade relies on 2 exams, iClicker questions, homework (six in total in forms of quizzes on BB), & final. An 88-100% is an A. VERY HELPFUL, wants all to succeed in any way possible.
This class is fair. You need an iclicker for attendance. 2 exams and one final. A couple homework assignments online. take the class.
I never took physics in high school so I was scared to take this class. Geier is an amazing teacher! She goes out of her way to help everyone understand the material. I went to her office hours and review sessions which were very helpful. iclicker is important for attendance. Take her if you can!
I love Dr. Montserrat! Her adorable accent, yet funny accent and good teaching ability made class interesting and well spent. There are 2 midterms, 1 final, ICicker Q's during class, and online homework which you need a textbook for. Study the lecture notes for exams and you should have no problem.
took her for both physics 100a and b. better at teaching 100a in my opinion. she made a lot of mistakes explaining things during 100b lectures. READ THE BOOK for both classes. she uses the same book for her classes for physics 100a&b. exams are more conceptual. DO WELL ON THE HW!!! it'll save your grade in the end of the semester.
Like the person below, her exams were mostly conceptual so read the section. Her exam study guides aren't all that helpful, so make sure to understand problems and concepts in her slideshow (basically her exam). Her exams are 15 MC with 1 longer question. Lab, HW/online quiz grades will help a lot. Keep motivated b/c you cover far-reaching topics.
Fairly easy teacher. 2 tests and noncumulative final with 15mc and 1 long question each which are easy concept or calculation questions. weekly online quizzes which are pretty easy but weekly online hw is the worst because it's long and sometimes hard to calculate so look them up online. overall she's the best physics 100a teacher so take her!!
Geier is really nice & helpful. Just make sure to go over the powerpoints & you'll be fine for the tests. She is an easy grader & grades based on a curve on all assignments. I didn't study for the 1st 2 exams & was on the verge of not passing but the extra credit, curve, and studying for the final helped a lot. Go to class to get iclicker pts.
I absolutely loved this professor. Her PowerPoints are helpful when studying for exams and the website she recommends really helped too (videos + practice quizzes). As long as you show up to class (iclicker points) and do your part, you will pass. HW points help boost up your grade so its up to you to take advantage of it. I highly recommend her!
Absolutely adored her. Very organized, energetically passionate and charismatic. Always makes us laugh. Her power points are very easy to study from and her tests are very fair.
THE BEST TEACHER. When you learn from someone who is passionate about the topic, you can bet they're going to teach it to you with the best of their ability. This woman's charisma, positivity, and passion made me fall in love with astronomy. I am an English major who is science-intolerant. But this was my favorite class.
She is an amazing teacher! Really focuses on teaching you about Astronomy. She understands it is only a GE course so she focuses on concepts rather than the math. She makes learning interesting and fun!Class is not mandatory but you will want to go and you need it for iclicker points. Very little use of the book. Overall, fun class great professor.
The professor was extremely passionate, clear, and helpful. The class was less physics and math, and more concepts which is good since it was a GE course. Everything you need to know is on the PPs and i didn't have to open the book once. very interesting class
YOU MUST TAKE HER! She is very nice, funny, clear and her tests are not very complicated. I never read or studied to be honest and received a B so if you read and study you're guaranteed an A. I never enjoyed a class so much. Attendance is a must ever since she uses the iClicker. Take her you won't regret it.
She's really nice, passionate, and helpful! Straight-forward powerpoint lectures with good examples and explanations. Tests are based on homework problems.Although, the first exam from what I remember also contained content from lecture notes. I and many other students were satisfied of having her as our Phys. teacher.
She is the most adorable woman... I would honestly just sit in her class for no credit just to be around her. Very passionate about Astronomy and the homework is spaced out about every 2 weeks (you can work on it whenever you want so long as you meet deadlines) and very easy. Participation points are given everyday through iClickers.
Geier is an amazing professor-it is obvious she cares about her students and is always there to help. She explains concepts well and her tests are not too hard for a physics class. The only annoying part about this class is the online hwquizzes- which tend to be much harder than exams.
Not gonna lie, I found this class boring, but she tells you what you need to study for for the midterm and final exam. The homework is just the quizzes and those are easy. It wasn't the best class I've ever taken, but it wasn't horrible. Take her if you want an easy way out from Chem. Oh and she does take attendance through the iClicker.
Geier was a great teacher, always willing to help. The subject is a little difficult, but with some studying you'll do well. Do yourself a favor and take her!
Geier is such a sweet professor. She truly cares for her students and actually takes the time to explain difficult concepts. She gives extra credit (clicker questions) and there is a very, very small curve for the overall grade. Her tests are a good mix of qualitative and quantitative problems. 15 MC and 1 FR with multiple parts.
Avoid Astronomy at all costs. It's very boring and no where near what you would imagine an Astronomy course to be like. The tests are difficult and the lectures are long and boring. She takes attendance through iClicker.
This class was incredibly boring, but she was a very sweet professor. She knows what she's talking about, but I just personally think astronomy is boring. Lots of reading which I didn't do so that affected how well I did on tests. iClicker required. Class is pretty easy if you put in some effort.
astronomy is super boring and its mostly learning about how things in space came to be&concepts behind, physics, etc not looking at cool constellations or planets. shes the sweetest but unless you like astronomy, take something else bc its so so so boring. iclicker every lecture. withdrew bc too boring but i had a B; i hate math but mathastro
physics is my worst nightmare, but dr. geier is such a sweet lady. i can't believe how easy it is to get an A in this class. her tests are ridiculously simple if you go to lectures and pay attention to the iclicker qs. at least one of them will be on the 15-q test. skim through the textbook and do a few problems from each section.
Geier is the sweetest professor ever. All she wants is for her students to pass. Her lectures can get a little boring, especially if you're not into physics. But the tests are extremely fair, way easier than the online hw. Sometimes she'll even put 3-4 iClicker Q's in the 15 MC exam. Easy points. 3 exams and last one isn't cumulative.
Clicker Everyday but doest matter if you get it write or wrong you' ll still get points. She's the best!
Geier REALLY wants everyone to do well. She is extremely helpful and always tries to make sure you understand the material before she proceeds. The sweetest professor I have ever had. Her exams are not easy. Everything on the exam is from her lecture and examples she does in class. Make sure you pay attention!
I can't understand physics for the life of me, but Prof Geier makes everything pretty clear. You can tell that she really cares about her students and their grades so she does her best to explain every problem as clearly as possible. Also she gives extra clicker points and she adds extra points from group activities onto your midterms.
Prof. Geier is great teacher! She explains the material very well. Her tests are very straightforward, and are based off of the homework. But if you're struggling in any way, she's available during her office hours! Don't forget to do WebAssign, Koondis, it really gives you practice for her tests! Her final isn't cumulative. Awesome professor!
Her lectures can get boring at times because of the massive amount of example problems. However, you WILL understand the concept. She's quite proficient at explaining and demonstrating the lesson. Her tests are free response and she requires you to show your work. The book is not needed as her power-points provide enough understanding for an A
She is the best physics professor that you are going to have a Cal State Long Beach. I had her for two years and did great both years thanks to her. You really need to make sure that you go to class and take GREAT notes. Her entire tests are based on her lectures. Go to her office hours WHENEVER you are struggling she is super nice and helpful.
She has a bit of an accent, but it ends up being kinda funny, and doesn't really interfere with lectures. Super-nice, test expectations clear, helpful, good at explaining. Good reviews. Clearly wants everybody to understand the material.
Montserrat Geier is an incredible teacher. I've never liked science classes, nor done well in them, but she made this class awesome. It was easily retainable and I didn't need to study too much out of class. Just pay attention in class and you'll get at least a C (I got an A- because I found it very interesting). Her accent is iconic.
I took this professor for both PHYS 151 and PHYS 152. Midterms and Final are based off lectures and HW assignments. You could pass the class, even if you failed a midterm or 2. She uses WebAssign and Koondis. Take good notes, study them, as well as HW assignments, and you should be fine.
She has a rough accent, but is a really great teacher and has a good grading criteria. Exams are based straight off webassign and powerpoints. Class is curved slightly. Lab grade and Online homework grades are important are take up a large portion of your grade 40% or so. Missing lectures isn't a good idea as she does use iclicker everyday.
I LOVE DR. GEIER! I commute 90 miles to campus & came Fri.'s just to take her MWF class. Her lectures are great - good ppts. Pay attention, take notes, study the ?'s she posts and you'll do great. Physics is tough, but she works hard to make sure everyone does well - so you work hard too. Good structure & chances to succeed. Yay physics!
Her tests are based off the study guide so if you don't learn anything the rest of the time there but memorize the study guide you will pass. Homework and quizzes are online every week. You have to go to class everyday. Her lectures are easy to understand and she posts the powerpoints on BB.
She is a nice person. Her tests are a little bit like the webassign, she makes her reviews based on webassign problems but when the tests come around she switches up the formatting and wording of the problems which can change the problem so much that studying her review problems can sometimes not even help. HW is every week, 1 note card for tests
Not a bad prof. Slight accent. She explains and gives plenty of examples in class. Show up and prepare to take notes. Gives free points with iclicker questions and tests are pretty easy if you study, the questions are pretty much things shes done in class. Also very caring. I would recommend
I did poorly on her tests, but the WebAssign homework, iClicker points, and group activity helped bring up my grade. She seemed to genuinely care for her students, even providing Powerpoints and test review sessions. They are useful!! Also go over in-class example problems.
Geier is amazing . I took an 8 am class just cause i heard she was great and i am glad i did. The test are worth less than the homework so it is easy to pass ! She is very caring!
bruh you could get a fitty percent on all her exams and still pass the class with a C if you show up to class everyday for iclicker points, do the homework and quizzes. (if you need help, just search up the answers LOL) cause they take five ever. But really you should try your best, study hard, and go for an A, good luck!
Posts detailed powerpoints from lectures on beachboard & only material in the PPs are on exams; no textbook needed. 3 exams 72%, 6 online MC quizzes as hw 20%, 8% iclicker Qs/attendance. removes 1 hw & gives 2 free iclicker days. grade is curved. final is noncumulative. class is concept-based so no math. ASTR is actually interesting to learn too
Really easy class, didnt really have to show up to class, powerpoints were posted online and the study guide she posts and the homeworks you did online were basically everything you needed to know on the exams. shes a sweet lady. Her lectures were pretty entertaining, you could she loved teaching astro.
Her review sessions are very helpful! Tests are based on webassigned and probs. from ppt. She's very nice, and caring so come to office hour if you do not understand something!
The class is designed so that if you don't do well on the exams you can still pass by doing well on the webassign hw & lab. There are 3 exams, 1 non cumulative final, all are worth the same. Go to the review sessions, practice lecture problems, and do the study guide. She is very lenient when grading. She presents the material clearly. Great class!
Gives really good lectures and powerpoints that you could never open your textbook. Provides optional review sessions for exams. All exams are fair and straight forward questions. Web assign every week, labs, and iclicker are all very important. Easy class if you do your work, no tricks or brainteasers. Curves grades (88 is A)
Has review sessions and makes the homework worth a lot of points. She gives you review problems to help you with the test and they are extremely helpful. She is caring and tries to help you out. She is a great physics professor and I strongly recommend taking her class.
Please go to class. The tests were pretty hard even though the lectures made it seem simple. I got basically C's every test but I was able to get an A because of extra credit, participation points, and homework. The homework is pretty easy. Lectures were pretty boring though - I couldn't stay awake. Dr. Geier herself is really sweet though!
She explains everything that is on the homework. Exam questions are very similar to homework questions. She is very passionate, you can definitely tell she comes prepared to class. Very organized.
All the tests are similar to the homework and lecture. Make sure you go to the review sessions!! She goes over the questions that are very similar to the test. She takes the time to explain concepts thoroughly and do plenty of practice problems. She does have an accent when lecturing, but it is understandable. Overall, a relatively easy class.
Very friendly. Lectures cover the content very well, don't need to open textbook at all. Homework and tests similar to content in lectures. Only "required" attendance is I-clicker points, around 5% of grade. Although I did fall asleep once or twice.
Lectures are very boring and hard to hear but shes a nice lady. Offers extra credit. Tests are hard. 6 "homeworks" on quizzes on beachboard. iClicker attendance. The class was pre curved, 88 A, 76 B, etc. But i heard a different class was curved way more and easier.
Not too bad of a class. Some of the material is a little hard, but the tests aren't too bad. Gave a lot of extra credit, and homework and iClicker points really help your grade. DON'T buy the book. Literally never even opened mine. I just studied the PowerPoints and it was a relatively easy A.
She CURVES! Physics is boring to me and I could have studied a bit more but the curve is very generous. She cares a lot about her students understanding the material and although attendance is 5% of your grade (through iclicker) it really does help with your grade in the end. She lets you use a cheat sheet, an index card, for the midterms.
Not an easy A. The material is easy but her tests are 50 multiple choice . Each test covers about 5 chapters. She doesnt give a clear study guide. She gives you a lot of options to study from , but you shouldnt have to study every chapter down to the skeleton. Just do all Hw, Iclicker, and do fairly decent on test! Youll get atleast a B
I'm not big on Physics which is probably why this class was difficult. But she is the best professor at CSULB for 100A if you actually want to learn something. You can get a B grade and get 50 on each tests if you do really well in LAB, show up to class for Iclicker points and HW and quizzes on WileyPlus. (Chegg and yahoo answers help).
dont know who said this class was easy lol. put in the work and you will do well. study the study guides, wiley quizzes, and iclicker questions. go to class!!!!!!! read the book to fully understand it. geier is great.
Dr. Geier is the best! I spent my freshmen year with her and I must say she is such a lovely and caring professor. I was never good in Physics but she made her lectures very simple and easy to understand. She also went over them clearly. Plus, she answered my emails quick and available in office hours. TIPS: Never miss her review sessions!!!
Dr. Geier is one of the best phys profs out there. Her lectures are simple and understandable, and allows you to use a 3x5in cheat card and a scientific calculator during exams. Go to her review sessions, as she does a lot of problems that can potentially be on the exam. She goes the problems step-by-step! Guess I know who I'm taking for PHYS152!
Professor Geier is really cool! She loves what she teaches and she understands that most of the people only take her class for a GE so she tries to make it simple. She offers extra credit and drops your lowest score to get you an A. Her class is also pre-weighted. Never bought the book but it is probably helpful. Some concepts are tough.
she's so sweet and offers a lot of ec opportunities and curves nicely. she takes attendance with clicker q's so you have to go. the lectures help a little with tests. homeworks are very other week and super easy to find answers she wants you to pass and tries to help you a lot liked her a lot.
The tests are VERY similar to the problems from the group activities and review sessions, so make sure that you study them!!!
Ms. Geier is the best science professor I've ever had. She explains the concepts clearly and her lectures are entertaining. Tests are not hard at all if you go to class, take notes and attend to her review sessions.
Monserrat Geier is a perfectly fine physics prof. She is good at presenting the material and her tests are relatively easy. Just know that she cares more about whether you do the problem HER way rather than you getting the correct answer or doing a problem in a simpler way. Also be sure to go to her reviews, they basically are the test.
The Best professor ever. She gives the extra credit just for showing up, plus the i-clicker (no matter the answers are wrong/right) you will still get about 5% extra credits. Exams are Ok as long as you do webassign +GO to her review session (the exams will be Similar to it).3x5 FomulasCheat Sheet is allowed. Highly recommend taking her for 151+152
if u didnt take physics in hs, then the class is challenging. she explains lectures thoroughly. takes attendance thru iclicker. reviews concepts alot. loves participation & questions. understands the class is hard, she tries her best to help. sometimes the tests arent fully based on practice tests. try your best and read/review at home!
I said this before, and I'll say it again. Dr. Geier is amazing! She gives clear lectures and her demos help visualize and understand the concepts. Her exams are similar to WebAssign HW, and allows a 3x5 formula card during exams. Review sessions are so helpful and she gives extra credit for group activities and some iClicker questions. Great prof!
If physics is a topic that you just don't get, take this professor. Midterms are the midterm review. Final is no cumulative. 1 sided index allowed. Webassign due Saturday 9am sometimes Monday 9pm. Extra credit and curves. Easy to follow lectures does all the problems on the board and does use powerpoint. Best physics professor!
Review Sessions are 70% of the test. The other 30% is you knowing your physics concepts, which she helps develop while she solves problems. Caring lady, loves to help people, hates slackers. Go to class for free extra credit on some days! No curves, but its not needed, she's just that good
BEST PHYSICS PROFESSOR EVER! Midterm 1: 79.2% Midterm 2: 75% Final: 78.3% Attendance: 100%+ bc of extra credit Webassign HW: 100%+ extra credit. i got 90.6%!!!!
Take her!!!! Webassing and lab are each 25%, so that's already easy. 64% is a C for her, 76% a B, and 88% a A. She does reviews before test and post the problems she went over. The test are based on the problems she does in class and hw. Go to class to get clicker points, you don't even have to get the right answer.
MUST TAKE!!!! She makes her power points accessible online which really helps. Webassign is a must but she gives a good amount of time for you to do them. There is chance for extra credit which another helpful element when it comes to your final grade. I guess attendance isn't really mandatory but it is like 5% of your grade which can help you.
Very nice and the lectures are available. My only fault was taking this at 8AM when I'm not a morning person at all. If that's you, definitely don't. She goes through a lot of example problems and most everything she covers in full detail is on the test so just pay attention, seek help, and you'll do well, basically like any average class.
She's a great prof. Her grade distribution is pretty evenly spread out. She really cares about the students and she's good at teaching. It's not hard to get an A in this class as long as you do the webassigns and attend all the labs.
Professor Montserrat is a very kind professor. But when it comes to actually learn physics it gets a bit tough as she runs through the problems. Most of the test averages are low Cs, and that with her curve. I heard there aren't really better options for physics in LB so maybe a JC is a better option?
There are online "Quizzes" which are really homework that will have multiple questions similar to that on your exam. The answers to HW are on quizlet. She will require that you by a clicker for credit every class day. Never missed a class and the credit really helped out my grade. Plus she curves on the grade distribution so an 88-90 is an A.
Great professor and easy class! This class did not require a lot of math. There are six homework assignments, and the lowest score is dropped. Three exams (non-cumulative) are straightforward. There is a group assignment before each exam that is added to the test grade. Geier offers two extra credit opportunities that add 1-2% to total grade.
Geier really wants her students to do well in this course. She really makes herself accessible to her students by offering review sessions before midterms and the final. She uses clickers, so don't miss class. She has a very clear grading criteria. She also uses WebAssign for HW and that is due every weekend. Exams were similar to WebAssign probs.
Geier is very fair and wants everybody to succeed. Solves homework problems in class, hosts review sessions before tests, and tells you what to study. Homework is done through webassign and is due every week. Attendance is not necessarily mandatory, but she does give points for iClicker participation so definitely show up. Overall a great professor
Do the hw, worth a helpful chunk of overall grade. Will do problems exactly like the hw so highly suggest taking notes. Does iclicker Q's almost every class, worth attendance points. Offers some extra credit. Allows small cheat sheet for all exams. 2 midterms, 1 final, NOT cumulative for all exams.
She is clear, fair, and gives so many opportunities for extra credit. The exams are just like what you see in her ppts and the WileyPlus hw/online quizzes. I never used the book, I just practiced the equations and focused on the concepts she lectured on and assigned. I highly recommend her.
Very nice woman but not the most articulate. Physics is a difficult subject for me, and she did not improve my outlook of the material. She's definitely cares for her students, but isn't the best instructor. There are few questions on her exams so it's easy to drop a letter grade with just a few mistakes. Review slides and hw, but no book required.
She's a very fair prof. Homework is worth 25% and the lab is worth 25% and a passing grade is 64% so its very easy to pass. The midterms can sometimes be tricky but with the other points in the class, it's easy to get an A with some effort. Very nice and helpful prof as well.
She is a gentle spirit and I respect her. Her exams are actually very hard now due to classes being online which is understandable.
Really sweet and caring professor. She explains the little things which helps A LOT if you know nothing about physics. Gives lots of examples, doesn't give insane amounts of homework, and is very straightforward. Trust me, decent professors in physics are hard to come by. Take her if you can!
She has accent that makes her voice very monotone, therefore the lectures aren't very exciting. She doesn't have much of a personality and doesn't interact much with her students, she even turned off chat on Zoom. There isn't much homework which was nice. The exams were the kind that won't let you go back and check previous answers, yuck
She does have an accent, but it is not that bad. Trust me, you'll be fine. She is the best physics professor for 151 from what I heard and observed. The 3 tests are 30% of the grade, which is really nice. Just make sure to do the weekly WebAssign and she does give 10 in-class quizzes. She is caring and nice; I hope she teaches 152 in the spring.
people say to not trust Rate my Professors because only students that had really good or bad experience put their opinion here. Physics is difficult content but not impossible. Her as a professor makes the class disjointed, doesn't teach well, reads off the slides, and doesn't listen to her students. To her, you are just a number in her class.
Physics is by no means an easy subject but professor Geier really tries her best to make the concepts relatable and understandable. I averaged a C on all the exams and still passed with a B. Lab is 20 % of the grade so that definitely is to the students advantage. The class is an easy pass if you do the assigned work and do well in lab.
Prof. Geier straight up reads from the powerpoint slides, doesn't listen to her students and has low averages (60's). She blames the class for not studying "hard enough". Her exams are the type that you only see one question at a time and can't go back. She does give extra credit but only 0.0000000001 points. Her study guides are useless. Be ready.
The class was very boring because she just read off the slides. She wasn't that helpful when you asked a question. Her homework was super easy and manageable. Her exams weren't bad tbh just kind of annoying that you couldn't go back to different questions.
One of the worst professors I have ever taken. I thought her exams were very unfair. I did all the practice problems in the book but that wasn't enough. I got a 98% in the lab section but ended up with a B bc her exams were just ridiculous.
Professor Geier is a sweetheart, but her lectures were boring, especially because she read off of them and it was a 9am class. There were 4 exams total and only one questioner slide. The final was non-cumulative and you should read the book to get a better understanding since astro is already a complicated topic.
She is very thorough in lectures. Follow those, pay attention, engage, and you'll get a good grade. Didn't really need to use the textbook, so don't buy it. She's very kind and clear about many of her things. Never goes off track. Montserrat is definitely a very good professor!
She posts the PowerPoint lectures at the start of every week which is super helpful. She uses class time to go over her presentations, answer questions, and show neat videos. There is usually a tiny quiz after each class. The content is pretty easy to absorb if you actively pay attention.
Had her online my first semester as an MAE student with no physics background. She did an amazing job at teaching physics, solving example problems, and even had a few demonstrations to help conceptualize some of the topics despite it being online. Great professor, learned a lot!
