Professor Hoo is one of the best if not the best history teacher I've had. She wants you to learn and understanding everything that she is teaching you. She teaches off of a power point but goes through each slide very clearly. She post all the power points to blackboard so you can refer back to them. She made me fall in love with history.
Prof. Hoo. Is the best teacher I've had since starting college. She explains everything in a way that helps you understand the material. It is very clear that she cares about the subject she teaches. I have always hated history but she made it so fun for me that I took two classes with her.
She's an amazing teacher. Her work isn't tough but when something is due, it's due. Don't dilly dally and you'll be fine. Took her for Black History and will never forget her kindness and acumen.
Great class and a nice teacher. I would definitely take again. She was nerdy/funny too, which made the class more fun.
Professor Hoodenpyle has been my favorite professor so far. She is very caring and accessible. She makes her lectures fun and entertaining because she genuinely cares about what she is teaching. Even if you don't do well with history or find it generally boring, she will most likely change your mind. I definitely recommend her class to everyone.
AMAZING professor! I always thought I hated history, but I loved going to her class. She posts everything to blackboard and gives study guides. She cares about students and you can tell it when you talk to her. I never thought that I would enjoy this class as much as I did.
The lecture slides are a great tool. She keeps the class engaged. I loved her overall teaching style!
She is the best history teacher I have ever had! Her lectures are not boring she makes history as exiting as she can! I recommend to take notes! her test are straight to the point its a make up of 40 questions 1 essay. Gives you study guides for the tests. she does have online quizzes due every week but they are open notes not timed with 2 chances
My favorite Professor by far! She is vibrant and enthusiastic about History! She made her lectures fun with her voices and passionate demeanor. I highly recommend taking her :) She provides her PowerPoint lecture slides on Blackboard, so if you miss a class it won't hurt you. But I went because I'm the type of person who learns best in class.
She is super peppy and funny! Every class she starts out with a "Howdy Y'all" and asks us how we're doing. If we groan she gets all sad but is still peppy. She loves to laugh and makes history super fun to learn. She explains things well and sets up a clear guideline for her grading. She grades fairly on tests.
Prof Hoo is a Hoot! I normally dread taking history courses, but her lectures are extremely informative and entertaining, which made this course very enjoyable. The grade for her fast track course consists of 5 online quizzes and 2 exams. NO PAPERS! Exams are a mix of matching, T/F, multiple choice and 1 essay question (from the study guide).
She is cool and bubbly, but a really strict grader. There are only two exams, a few online quizzes (they don't do much to your grade), and a research paper. There is a lot of extra credit, but its just you going to events so if you're a busy person that is out of the question. Her study guides don't help much and she's fast during lecture.
Prof. Hoodenpyle... 50% of your grade is based off mid term and final. 20 percent is based off a 5-6 page research paper. A very boring class but if you are a good est taker then you will pass. Attendance is not mandatory I missed half the classes and still managed to get a high B
This professor really loves history! I don't really enjoy history but Morgan made it somewhat enjoyable. There were a total of 5 quizzes (worth half you grade), a midterm, and final (together worth the other half). The quizzes are easy and if you actually review the study guides, there should be no reason to not get an A.
Shes a super funny/ chill teacher! The only downside is that half of your grade is based on tests and she grades really hard! Theres a lot of reading involved as well. But she does offer extra credit.
Took her for summer! & I loved her ! If one pays attention to her lectures, youll do good! I didnt really like history but she taught it in a very interesting way!
I wasnt excited about taking history but I liked the class.
Dr. Hoo is a funny, nerdy, upbeat professor. Very happy and giggly. Keeps things exciting with her stories and tone variations so you don't fall asleep. Not too much work given and she allows open note/book quizzes. You can tell she loves what she teaches and really knows her stuff. As long as you do the work and study you'll pass easily.
She is HILARIOUS and super lenient! This class is really easy if you pay attention to lectures and simply do your work! It is not for someone who wants to just slack off and pass. Her lectures are a lot of fun and theres so many extra credit opportunities! She is easy to approach about grades and is always willing to help explain things!
She is absolutely the best professor. She is so dedicated and she loves what she does. I would absolutely take her again!! She is always so funny and sweet. She teaches in a way that you can remember everything! 100% recommend.
Love, Love this professor. She is so enthusiastic, helpful, caring and very approachable. super knowledgable about history subject. Don't miss out on her lectures, she will keep you entertained. Took two of her classes, her exams are very easy and the slides are very helpful. The study guide is very helpful and she will answer any question.
I oved being in Dr. Hoo's Women in History class. Her lectures are fun & not boring. I've liked the documentaries and movies we've watched. There are only 2 tests all semester and you do have to write a research paper. Each week, you read 1-2 chapters in the book and write 5 questions (with multiple choice answers) that she might use on a test.
I love everything about Dr. Hoo. You can tell she cares about what she is doing and if you're understanding everything. She is one of the best professors I've ever had. She gives a lot of extra credit opportunities. Her lectures are funny and impactful, making it easy to get good grades on her tests. I love her and would 10000% take her class again
If you dont like her I promise its a clashing of personalities because this professor is awesome! Shes in tune with social problems & explains history in an engaging way. She gives daily hw, a project, a book analysis, & a couple exams. Extremely sweet, loud, & cares about each student as long as you talk to her. Dont talk while she talks tho!
Loved this class. Not a fan of history usually but she is very enthusiastic about what she teaches. Very clear and easy to understand, work isn't extremely difficult. She has study guides for both midterm and final and does review before every test.
Shes awesome, she is so awesome that I have taken her classes five times!
I LOVE her! She is so amazing and relatable. She makes everything super accessible to her students and makes all of her assignments super clear! Tests are easy, but long! But when you look at her as a professor that's a minor thing. Best professor ever!
Dr. Hoo is the best History teacher I have ever taken. She is so nice and funny. She is also super understanding as well. The class is super easy to follow along with and isnt boring at all. As long as you do all your homework and show up to class to do the in class activities your determined to get a good grade in the class.
Dr. Hoodenplye is an amazing teacher & I loved having her for Women in History. Her lectures are very interesting and I love that she adds quirky, weird things into them. The entire class will be lectures and you'll do reading at home. Homework is due once a week and it's from the reading (you make up multiple choice questions and add choices)
Mrs. Hoo is very passionate about history and it shows through her lectures. Shes energetic and enthusiastic while teaching, so it holds your interest. Theres homework every week and the finals are on the hard side, so make sure you pay attention in class and go over the study guides.
I loved her as a professor. she was really chill and funny. I mean so easy too, I practically got an A+ while I missed quite a few lessons. her tests were so easy. her lectures were so long yet really funny and engaged in the class. really knows her history and I would recommend her to anyone. She made you read a chapter every week but other than t
She is really funny in her lectures. They were a bit on the long side, but NOT boring. She was extremely caring during the pandemic. She constantly sent us reminders on due assignments. We only had one extra credit assignment, which was to visit a museum. I would have liked more extra credit options. Overall, she is great and I recommend her.
I took one of her online history classes. She creates her own video lectures, which makes it a lot more entertaining to learn the material. She also provides a copy of the digital textbook to read. I would definitely recommend her!
LOVE this prof. She makes history fun. Dr. Hoo offers loads of extra credit.
Great professor, definitely recommend.
I took her for an online class she answers questions quickly and always provides feedback. Assignments are pretty much straight to the point she grades good. I would definilty take her class again. Guranteed to pass. Does provide extra credit chances not many but take advantage of what is available. Loved her !
This was an 8-week class so there was a lot to cover in a short amount of time. Quizzes contain information from the lectures so definitely watch them. She's really funny and the lectures were engaging and not boring. Any time I messaged her I always got a response super quick. Would take her again.
I took an 8 week online course with her and she was fantastic. Very easy to get ahold of and very personal. But beware, if you are not willing to read and do homework. You will not do well. Her lectures are very long but broken down so that you may understand the material. If you do the work and study, you will be fine.
Great teacher. Very easy to work with but beware, her lectures are very long and will have multiple lectures for the same chapter. You can most definitely pass with an A but you need to read and watch her lectures. She will put extra credit on tests from her video lectures, so takes notes. She is a big goofball and makes the lectures fun.
I took Morgan Hoodenpyle for History 111 and I went with her based on the reviews and low level of difficulty. I have never been so stressed in my life. Each week there's a quiz, current event connection, over 2-3hour lectures, you had to read a book called The Slave Ship and answer questions, read textbook, write a 5-8 page final essay. DONT TAKE
I loved Dr. Hoos class, and am sad I couldnt take it face to face. This professor goes above and beyond for her students, and shes so encouraging and personable. I learned so much from her, and the lectures came across as very conversational.
Professor Hoo is one of the nicest profs I've had here. She really seems passionate about what she teaches & she explains things very well. Her lectures are interesting & make you feel as if you are in a classroom setting. I would've loved to have had her face to face. If you're thinking of taking her class, I would definitely recommend it!
I cant say enough good things about Dr. Hoo. In spite of COVID, she was able to adapt the class to online which couldnt have been easy. Dr. Hoo genuinely cares about her students, and I love her willingness to help if you need it. Im grateful to have had a professor that truly cared in these strange times, and her hard work is much appreciated.
Nice professor! You just review carefully and complete assignments, you must get A and pass. I would recommend everyone to take this professor!
Dr. Hoo was an amazing professor that did her best to make the class as immersive as possible with the pandemic moving classes online. Her personality keeps the lectures watchable and was always available to address concerns on the material. Her quiz questions could be a bit obscure at times, but she made up for that by offering extra credit!
Dr. Hoo wants to make history fun. Unfortunately, it seems that she doesn't realize students have other classes. She give A LOT of homework, a lot of it is busy work. In one week, read two chapters, make up questions, current event, quiz, 1 hour worth of lecture, discussion with 200 words on post and replies. If you have other classes RUN!
SO FUNNY. SO SWEET. SO KIND. Kinda in love with her. Kinda want her to be my mom. Best teacher ever. Incredible lectures. I learned so much from her. She loves her job! SO organized.
Dr. Hoo is a delight. Kind, intelligent, friendly, and funny. There's a decent amount of work, so don't take her if you aren't one to try your best at everything. Clear expectations, reasonable deadlines, and quizzes can be taken twice. Honestly don't understand how anyone could not get an A, or not absolutely adore her!
I graduated MSJC in 2018 and went on and I'm graduating from UCR in the Spring and Prof. Hoo is still by far the best history teacher I've ever had. She's so good I'm coming back two years later and giving a review. She really re-ignited my love for history when it was fading. If you have the chance, you have to take her class. It was a real joy!
I should have listened to another reviewer on here who said not to take this course if you have other classes. The amount of work assigned in this class is easily doable if all you do is homework and you don't require sleep or breaks. If you are a parent, have a job, a life or other classes don't take professor Hoodenpyle.
Funniest teacher I've had! She has weekly live office hours for online courses. Her lectures are long, but you don't need the textbook (included) to pass. You do need to read The Slave Ship (included) and write chapter reports and answer questions. Weekly quizzes, assignments, and discussions, but she likes sassy responses. SHE IS SO FUNNY!!
(SP2021) Dr. Hoodenpyle has fun video lectures, but take notes because that info will be on quizzes and exams. Quizzes are only 5 questions and are quick & easy. She takes points off for late work. She gives a lot of work for the semester, which includes weekly discussions, book analyses, current events, and other extras. Extra credit is available.
Dr. Hoo is a great professor. Her lectures can feel long sometimes but she if often hilarious! I felt there was a lot of work with 2 hrs of lecture, 2 hour movie, discussion with replies, a quiz and chapter assignments each week. Plus a research paper that is split in parts throughout about 3 months that you have to work into the regular week.
Absolutely amazing. By far one of the funniest and best professors Ive had at MSJC. She is so passionate about her topic. She is goofy and quirky and makes all her lectures so much fun. She gives multiple tries on her exams which is helpful and makes it so much easier to learn and pass the class. Would 100% take her class again!
I loved Professor Hoodenpyle. She had great lectures and was hilarious. Easy to understand and the quizzes were very much on what was stated in the lectures. Take good notes and you'll be good. She's very nice, I loved this class.
Dr. Hoo is full of energy and hilarious. She's very kind and reasonable. As long as you turn your homework on time, you will be fine. Also prepare to read because we used 2 books ( Text book and another book) this semester.
Dr. Hoo had fun lectures, but they were very dense & she spoke very fast. Had a free textbook but did not test on it; exams were based on her lectures (take detailed notes for E/C questions!). Had book analysis HW on a supplemental text; it was very manageable. Extra credit throughout term & on exams. She's very understanding, charming, & kind!
Professor Hoo is by far my favorite teacher. She is so funny, so caring, and makes learning about history so fun. I took her hybrid class and she was just so genuine and happy to be there. She cares so much about her students and is super understanding. She responds to emails quickly too. 11/10 I recommend her so much!!
If you love history this professor might be for you, but if you have a good notion of history and just need the class for credits, don't. This class is very work intensive, and all of the test questions are hyper specific to the very long lectures, so your prior knowledge will not help you in this class. FYI late work deduct 20% by day.
Dr. Hoo is incredibly straightforward in her lectures. The lectures and slides incorporated are what will be on exams/quizzes. Great sense of humor. Gives extra credit. Supportive. Kind.
This was by far Dr. Hoo's most interesting class. You get an inside detailed look at everything film related. From its inception/roots to the modern day. I would bet this is her favorite class to teach also. She loves film. A different film to watch and dissect every week.
The accelerated version of HIST 112 went quickly. Watch the lectures and take notes it's what will be the majority of content on exams and quizzes.
I absolutely loved Dr. Hoodenpyles' class. She is an amazing professor who loves history and therefore made me love it too. She cares for her students and is very easy to talk to. You have a quiz every Sunday but as long as you were in class or read the book you should be good. The book is on line and it's free.
By far one of the best professors I've taken! She is so cool makes fun, entertaining lectures. As long as you watch the lectures take notes and read (pretty much stay on top of your work) you will enjoy her course. The questions on the quizzes, midterm, and final are from her lectures so make sure to take decent notes.
Love her! I've had her for two HIST classes now and would choose her again! She's super nice, offers lots of E.C. opportunities, and has a clear passion for HIST. I took an 8-week course so it was a LOT of work but her class is very informational and her energy really helps. The textbook for my class was free, only had to buy one book for Analysis!
She was a very energetic teacher and easy to talk to when you had questions. It is an easy class I would say, because she was always avaible if you need help, she allows you to use your notes the exams, and her lectures are easy to follow. Take good notes and you will do fine :)
She was a great teacher and very energetic. She is understandable and kind to her students and she always willing to help you when you have questions!
Great prof. and her lecturers were very engaging and full of energy. Every week consisted of a quiz, gather 5 questions based on the chapter, and a class discussion with 2 class replies. Lastly, theres a midterm, a final exam and a research paper. Fun prof. to learn from and highly recommend.
I loved professor Hoodenpyle! She was one of the funniest professors I've ever had!! Her lectures are interesting and you can tell she loves what she does. In her lectures, she adds a lot of funny comments that make you laugh. I would take her again if I had to and it's a super easy class only if you watch the lectures!
Morgan Hoodenpyle is an amazing professor! Her lectures were so entertaining! & the class was so fun! Hw consisted of 5 multiple-choice questions based off the book. Movie reviews during class too! Attendance is mandatory though since hw is due the day of class. Note! Do not buy the book! Go to the libraries, if you are able! Saved me some money!
I took this class as an 8-week course. There was a 5-question quiz and sometimes one other assignment, which could vary. The quizzes are based on the lectures and the free online textbook. There were very few discussions, a few documentaries, a midterm, and a final. Lectures can get lengthy, but watch them, especially for extra credit on tests.
Only have 8 assignments for hw, extra credit if you go to workshops and write about them. Does activities every now and then in class you can not make up, so you should go to class. Easy grader for the hw, 4 of the hw are book analysis, other 4 are small research papers that you just answer questions to. Very passionate about history, nice person.
Hoodenpyle was a good professor, A lot of reading was involved with her class, and watching lectures was not my favorite in the world, but if you stay on top of it then you should do fine in her class, I took her 8-week class so my experience might be different. 1 midterm, 1 final exam, and 3 EC opportunities. quizzes every module, but short.
I took her HIS-112 class for credits! It was absolutely amazing. There was nothing too hard, just a lot of writing and typing by the Book Analysis assignments that she gives out periodically. Then, some discussion boards and weekly quizzes regarding historical events/periods. I absolutely love her class and the way she set up her class.
Dr.Hoo is one of the best teachers I have had! Shes super energetic and clear when lecturing. All the recourses you need can be found on canvas. As long as you take notes, and show up to class, you will pass:)
She is phenomenal and truly cares about the topic and all her students. This was a class I was dreading taking, but she made it so informative and inspirational. It is not a simple A; it requires effort, but the payoff is excellent. Hands down the best professor I have had at MSJC.
She was a decent professor but I wouldn't take her again because she is a tough grader to please. As well as ur communicative skills were lacking.
Great professor, very manageable workload and cool book reports. Her lectures were amazing! Extra credit opportunities also.
My favorite professor by far. I don't even like history, but Dr. Hoo is amazing. Her lectures are amazing and hilarious. Quizes are based on lectures not textbook. It was a lot of work though; she packed the short-term course with work but overall wasn't impossible! You will not regret taking her classes!
I hated History until I took this class with Professor Hoodenpyle! She is amazing, well-prepared to do her class. Supportive and funny!
Prof is VERY enthusiastic about history! A weeks work typically consists of watching 3-5 lecture vids (usually 15-40 mins long) and a short 5 question quiz, sometimes a short assignment about one of the lectures. Midterm and Final exam are about 25 questions. Work is easy overall and prof is an easy grader as long as you follow the requirements.
Loved taking her class. She made everyone feel very welcomed and made the class come together. She is very understanding of things that are going on in your personal life. She grades very fairly and gives second chances on fixing assignments for a better grade. I would 100% take another class lectured by her.
Overall a very chill class in terms of work load and a real joy of a course to attend with Dr.Hoo. She clearly puts a lot of time into her lectures and values the interactions she shares with her students, if you like movies in any capacity Dr.Hoo will ensure you love movies by the end of the semester.
She's funny, yes, but her assignments are all AI generated, and so are her responses. I felt like I had a robot as a teacher. Almost every single assignments instructions required further clarification because her ChatGPT's instructions were often things we NEVER learned, and I don't think she proofread any of it. Workload was moderate.
