Great teacher!
One word: dry. He can't speak with emotion, and his powerpoint lectures aren't even worth listening to. Also, the blackboard reading quizzes (an integral part of the class) are written poorly- there is no outright correct answer for many of the questions. He even mislabeled one, causing the entire class to fail it. He's an easy grader though.
He really is a good guy. He is kind of dry & his powerpoints aren't really interesting, but ENGR 111 as a whole is uninteresting, so that really isn't his fault. You shouldn't need help in this class, but he is super nice & would help you if you needed it. This class is pretty easy. I'd take him again.
He's quiet, I still don't know what his voice sounds like. I show up to class just for attendance, but don't pay attention. The online quizzes are very easy, as well as the 2 group projects and essays. Should be an easy A, but I was honestly hoping to learn more about each type of engineering in this class. Not his fault though, poor curriculum.
Very good teacher I learned a lot from him. I wish he had more office hours though, I could've used some one on one help
Had him for ENGR 111. Really cool, laid back guy. I forgot to bring a paper one day and he told me not to worry about it and let me bring it in during his office hours. His lectures may be a bit dull but it doesn't matter as there are no tests in the class. Buy the textbooks though as you'll be writing papers over them.
It's probably more of the ENGR-111 course being really poorly designed than it is him, but the class was basically a disaster. We rarely had any idea what we were supposed to actually be doing. As for him personally, In a smaller class I could see him being a great professor, but his lectures were really monotonous . It's still an easy A, though.
Minton was fine, the class is easy if the work and show up for class. The class itself is pointless. You learn almost nothing.
one of the best professor at UA. I loved the way he teaching. he is so helpful inside and outside the class. tests are kinda tough. but he replace the lowest with the final. there will be ton of homework. he grades the tests fair.
Dr. Minton is definitely the best. He is super down to the earth, and always ready to help. He will never let you down. I am taking this class in summer , so it's a little harder and more pressure that regular semesters. However, if you go to office hours, he'll make sure that you fully understand what you came asking him for.
Dr. Minton is the man and the best. I took the class in the spring with a professor, and when i needed to ask a question, I had to come prepared because he wasnt easy going and i was scared if i dont impress. but with Dr. M, i could ask him everything i had difficulty in, and he made sure that i understand it before i leave his office. Def. the BEST
He is one of the best teachers i had in the university. I like how he communicate and Super down to earth with his students. He pushes his office hours 3 or more hours just to make sure that all the students who needed help, get what they need. Statics is a tough subject, so i don't blame him having a little difficulty teaching at the beginning.
Attendance was not mandatory, but if you don't go you wont pass. Works relevant problems that aren't a waste of your time which is good to hear for any ENGR student
Participate in class and he will help you out on grading. super nice guy and is willing to do anything to help. He also teaches to where everyone can understand.
Really good teacher. He cares that you learn the material. He is usually in his office so you can just stop by for help. Understands the parts most people have trouble with and go the extra mile in explaining them.
Professor Minton is just great. Statics is a hard class, but he teaches it really well, and he makes the class really manageable. If you have a chance, definitely take his class!
Pretty good teacher! He genuinely cares about his students and wants them to pass. His office hours are very flexible. Tests are challenging, but they usually have a bonus question. He is very helpful during tests as well! Expect to work hard in this class but know that Mr. M is always there to help!
Mr. Minton is a good ENGR 103 teacher. Not an easy course but he definitely helps and is their for you if you have questions
Mr. Minton seems like a nice guy, and I have no reason to believe he's not. I just wish he would have gotten back to me sooner and more often.
The class itself is basically a mix of physics 105 and some basic engineering ideas. It wasn't too difficult for me to understand, but he is very monotone and talks pretty slow and sometimes confuses himself.
Had him for Eng 111, which is essentially pointless. He seems like a great guy and is a good teacher
Great teacher, really cares and wants to make sure you understand everything. Always willing to meet outside of class to help if you don't understand something. Homework is fairly difficult, but prepares you for the test. Just an overall good teacher.
Had him for ENG 111 which was a pointless class definitely recommend. Easy class to boost GPA. Morgan was a total G in the class.
Morgan is a bit dry but a nice guy. ENGR 111 is a pointless class, but an easy A. Grades homework and projects easily. There are a few writing assignments but most are about a page. Its best to go to class because sometimes he does clicker quizzes randomly. Take him for this class.
This isn't an easy class but he does help a lot if you reach out to him. He's an approachable guy and can explain things better in his office hours than in class. There are practice problems and tests and I would recommend doing them to study because they help a ton. Not the worst class I took this semester but you do have to work for a good grade.
Mr. Minton is probably your best choice for ENGR103. For how hard the class is, he does a good job! If you ever miss or anything, just go to his office hours and say you didn't get it. You'll end up with a better grade anyways because he walks you through the homework. Just study the old tests and practice problems, do HW, and use office hours!!
Take this class if you're not sure that you want to do engineering - you learn more about the field. Minton was a great teacher who graded very easily and as long as you showed up to class, he would basically give you an A.
Minton gives lectures that are interesting but completely unrelated to homework, tests and projects. Took him for Engineering for the Future and it was super easy but make sure you show up because he uses random clicker quizzes instead of checking attendance to encourage students to come to class.
Honestly a really great guy, but lectures are so dry. Very receptive to students coming in to office hours. Make sure you make friends in the class because there are group projects and quite a few of them. I would recommend doing all of your engineering drawings in advance, though I was able to easily keep up with them, it would take away stress
This class is an intro and can be difficult. To do the best possible in the class, outside sources must e utilized. Office hours are a great resource and are extremely when trying to figure out how to do the difficult homeworks that are assigned.
103 is really easy. Show up, do the drawings, do the homeworks, and you'll get an A.
incredibly understanding and patient with students. wants you to do well
This was a pretty tough class, apparently meant to weed out people who aren't serious about becoming engineers. The homework assignments are short, but tough. He's always really helpful if you go to office hours, though. He explains things well and is really nice. This class prepared me well for future classes, like physics and vector calculus.
It's a one a week one hour class and as long as you show up and participate and actually turn in the assignments you'll have a great time.
Very easy, boring, and pointless class. Just show up for the participation points but you don't actually have to pay attention. There are quizzes sometimes but he posts the lectures on blackboard. There were two group projects with lab reports.
He wants everyone to do well and is a super nice guy. The class itself is easy, but the group projects are a great way to meet and collab with other freshman in engineering. There's no tests but there are quizzes on the lectures.
Awesome guy that cares about the students. Just show up and you're golden.
Pretty good teacher, not hard at all and wants you to understand the material. Really easy to get an A
Personally have never been able to pay attention to math lectures, this didn't change here. But his homework was useful to do for studying for tests (and required), and he tried to leave the impression that statistics were important for engineers. Smart, made some jokes, was easy to work with and learn from.
He's a very cool and understanding guy. He wants everyone to do well, and as long as you do your work and show up for class you will make an A. He wants people to understand the material and does a good job explaining things. Not a super hard class, and it was good to meet people that will be in a lot of my other classes in the future.
Minton was the best teacher I've had by far! His notes are available online are so helpful when studying for a test! He is a great teacher and made hard concepts easy to understand. He is also hilarious! If you are ever confused about any material he will go over it with you in office hours and he always answers emails. Awesome!
He is good at teaching, very chill, I learned a lot. I would defiantly take him again. He is very willing to work with you.
Morgan is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet! He is very straightforward in his lectures and doesnt give a lot of homework. Show up do the homework and pay attention and you will be just fine.
Requires more work than most 1 hour classes (a couple essays and projects) but it was fairly easy, just takes some time. There are 2 group projects through the semester but they aren't stressful as long as you work on it a little outside class.
Great professor. He doesn't give much work and is very straightforward about what you will need to know to do well.
One of the best teachers i have ever had at any level of schooling. Really made himself accessible to learn material, and had good lectures. ENGR 103/123 was hard for a lot of people, but he has good office hours that you can go to and really get the help you need. Any bad attitude towards him should really be directed at the class, he is great
The tests are pretty hard, but every professor for 123/103 gives the same tests and minton does a great job preparing you for them. office hours are super helpful. very nice guy. do good on the drawings, in-class labs, and come to class and you can make an A/B even if you struggle pretty bad on the tests.
This class was difficult but Minton did everything in his power to help. The tests were hard for me but there are plenty of chances to make up points. Very flexible on class timeline. He is very helpful in and out of class. He can crack some funny jokes. Definitely cares about his students and their success. I honestly want to be friends with him.
Minton is good at teaching and knows how to keep class entertaining. The class is not very difficult and as long as you review what he gives you youll do fine on the tests
Some of the material in this class can be hard, but Minton really tries to make sure you understand what you're doing. He is willing to help when you have questions. Make sure you study hard for the tests.
In other circumstances besides COVID-19, Minton would have more than likely been a good professor. Unfortunately during this time he would never respond to emails and had the worst communication. He had very few things that actually affected your grade beside the tests.
I know some people struggled to get in contact with Professor Minton bc of Covid, but it was never too bad for me. Hes a pretty good teacher of the material. The tests are pretty hard, and if you dont study, you wont pass. The tests and the final are pretty much the only things that matter for your grade.
ENGR123 is an extremely hard class, and it did not help with how inconsistent Mr. Minton was throughout the semester. He missed office hours often, and he is very hard to get in touch with; expect for him to take 2-5 days to answer emails, or simply never reply. I also had cal 2 and chem 101, and it was a very stressful semester- do not recommend.
This class is going to be hard regardless of the professor you take it with. That being said, I wouldn't take this class with him. He is not very accessible outside of class. He teaches only the basic concepts in class and then expects you to be able to extrapolate on the exams to do the hard problems, most of which he never brought up in class.
Has flat out told us that he can't prepare us for the level of difficulty on the tests. Homework is totally irrelevant to what we do on tests. Lectures are bare-boned and hard to take useful notes. It's more of a departmental issue than Minton himself, but they could care less if you understand the subjects or not. Worst weed-out class I've taken.
He's fine himself, but everything is bare bones, and if you don't put in effort, you won't pass. The overall class is much more difficult than it should be, so be prepared.
Engineering foundations wasn't as bad as people made it out to be. It goes very fast, but it's manageable, especially if you've taken a high school physics course. Morgan (that's what he tells you to call him) is probably the best option for this class. Super chill dude. He responds to emails slowly, but he's always accessible in office hours.
This class is horrible. Lets say youre a mechanical engineer, then about only 20% of the material applies to you. Same with civil, architectural, etc. Even less so for Chemical or Computer Science. On top of it all is a professor that in my honest opinion cares about his students but cannot teach in a clear and engaging way. Good Luck.
Straightforward professor for a straightforward class. A good choice to introduce engineering students into the College of Engineering at Alabama. Everything except about 10 homework assignments are clearly posted at the beginning of the year, and only one paper was due the entire semester.
Having already taken physics in high school makes this class much, much easier. Yes, some of the info will feel irrelevant to your major, but thats just the way it is. Morgan is chill and really knows what hes talking about. You get to pick who to work with for the group labs, which rarely require out-of-class time.
I think Minton is a very solid choice to have as one of your first engineering professors. I'm a computer engineering major so a lot of the material isn't super relevant to me, but Minton always tried to explain how some concepts would translate into different fields. And, I think he does a good job at getting students into the Engineering mindset.
Very cut and dry kind of guy. Insists that you call him Morgan. Boring lectures with topics that are not fully explained. Starts working out problems and doesn't finish them. I would have done much better in this class if I had taken a different professor. Avoid if at all possible.
Hes just really good overall. Lectures were short but clear and you got taught/told exactly what was on the tests so there were no surprises
Minton is not a bad choice if you have to take the course. He does an acceptable job at explaining concepts and working them out. Rather flexible with office hours. He seems most concerned about you passing the course over everything else. Homework can be a bit hard, same with the tests, but nothing impossible.
Cares about you understanding the material. Will meet with you outside of class and answer any questions. Very understanding and super lenient. Good choice for this course.
Professor Minton was an approachable and intelligent professor who advocated for his students when unfortunate circumstances made it such that one test had to be taken online and students received poor grades. He is a respectable guy and makes it clear he cares about his students. He successfully prepares freshman engineers for the journey ahead.
Truly one of the professors of all time
Minton was a very chill teacher and was very approachable with questions. I thought his lectures were a little boring at times but overall he teaches the material well and makes sure his students are prepared.
Morgan Minton is the BEST professor ever!!! This class is difficult for sure. I didn't have much physics background which is very useful so it was tough for me. PLEASE GO TO OFFICE HOURS!!! It is so incredibly helpful and helped me understand the content so much better. He truly cares about his students and is just so sweet. TAKE MORGAN MINTON!!!
ENGR 123 is either really easy or really hard. If you put forth any semblance of effort, Morgan will help you succeed. There is zero reason to fail his class. He was very accessible outside class and always willing to help anyone. The content is sometimes boring, but he does a good job of teaching it.
Great first semester of college teacher. Little to no homework except for drawings, but this also means you don't have a lot of material to help study for tests. He is always willing to help and encourages students to go to office hours if needed.
Most of the grade comes from tests. It's important to do your due diligence outside of class because he moves quickly through the material. Great personality and an interesting teacher. Would recommend for ENGR 123.
One of the best lecturers at UA. A good chunk of the class is the tests, which are hard but not at all impossible if you study. He is very straightforward and will never mislead or trick you. Would definitely recommend him for Foundations, you will not be disappointed.
dude is goated, the grade was only tests and homework but the tests were super fair and he basically told us what would be on them and let us have a formula sheet so studying for them was pretty easy. caring and pretty accessible, made a boring subject not totally awful. 10/10!
Good professor, good lecturer. Homework wasn't that bad, and labs/drawn hmwk and tests are standard amongst all 103/123 courses.
Morgan Minton is a good professor for those who show up to lectures, he does a good enough job that often times, just listening to the lectures he gives allows you to pretty much just understand everything in the book for that chapter without any hassle. He does give out a decent bit of homework but, they prepare you quite well for the exams.
Professor Minton is a great option for Engr 103. He's a nice guy and cares about his students. The class is pretty lecture and physics heavy, but the homework is light. Tests are pretty difficult because they are only 20 MCQs with no curve, but he does a good job preparing students for the tests through the lectures, homeworks, labs, and review.
Having learned physics in high school, class was not as difficult as it could've been, but Morgan kept me engaged with his great lecture skills and his genuine love for engineering. Very accessible and will happily work with you. Good bit of homework assignments and a few labs, most of the grade comes from the tests, which are fairly difficult.
He is the best Engineering 103 professor I could've asked for. He is caring, attentive, and easygoing. The class was harder for me than both calc 1 and chem 101 but he made it the best he possibly could have. 110 percent recommend.
Morgan was a great professor. He prepared me well for all of the tests (although I may be biased because I've already taken physics) and was very entertaining. Would recommend.
Great professor overall, very nice and lots of office hours. The one thing I didn't like is how he rambles. He had a metaphor for everything, sometimes more than one, which made him lose my attention a lot.
Best ENGR professor. Super chill and explains stuff well
Best professor I've had at UA so far. Attendance is required, but his lectures are very easy to understand and he makes it enjoyable. He's also very helpful outside of class.
Difficult learning style
Mr. Minton is good at his job, he makes the information easy to understand and helps students prepare before tests. it would be best if you put work in to understand the class but it's not the most overwhelming class. Def take Mr. minton
Professor Minton is someone who you can tell is truly passionate about engineering. GES 255 may not have been the most interesting topic, but he showed up everyday (regardless of weather unfortunately) and made sure that you understood his lectures. Tests are worth a lot, but he tries to give you as much credit as he can.
This guy loves math. Lectures are clear for the most part, he sets you up for tests very well, and there is not crazy amounts of homework. Great class
Class and concepts moved by very quickly, but Morgan made them very easy to understand and was always considerate of our time if we needed help, extensions, etc. Homework due every two-ish weeks. Tests weren't very long and he gave resources of exams from previous years which was extremely helpful. Concepts were also engaging.
Tests are super easy and predictable. There's no reason not to do extremely well on them when he gives you 3 practice tests and a front and back formula sheet. Put in 1/2 of the effort that you do in your other engineering courses and you'll be just fine. Don't forget to do the homework, the due dates are always random. Nice and understanding guy.
Professor Minton has clear grading criteria and tries as much as possible to give extra credit. Lectures are generally easy to understand and he is always able to give clear answers to any questions. Tests are generally close to the homework or lecture slides so going over those will be a great help. He is generally accessible outside of class.
Minton is a very good professor. Lectures are as interesting as they can be about statistics. He gives many real world examples of how the principles will be applicable in any engineering career. Homework is useful to study. Exams are not curveballs in any way, as long as you prepare your formula sheet and do the homework you will be good.
Minton is a very enthusiastic about what he teaches, however the way he teaches isn't the greatest. He would spend most of class just explaining the concepts, do one example, then run out of time, leaving me to teach myself. Tests are 5ish questions so there is little room for error and the final was only 7. Homework was hardly ever graded.
Such a cool guy, out of all of the ENGR 103 professors I could not have had a better one. He understands the course can be hard, his lectures are engaging, he is pretty fair with how he grades homework. Overall he just does a great job and I look forward to this class every week.
I had to retake engineering, and Professor Minton made all the difference! He's an outstanding lecturer who simplifies complex concepts, making them much easier to understand. He assigns homework sparingly. Although I only studied the night before exams (I don't recommend!), I still managed to earn good grades. I highly recommend his class!
Professor Minton was a really good person. Tests are extremely hard if you don't have a good backing in physics and calculus. I really enjoyed his lectures but found his teaching style in class to be very hard to grasp, especially considering the short time frame. office hours were very beneficial, overall difficult class, good teacher.
Love him. Pay attention in class, unlike me, and you'll do great. My grade in this class is lower purely because I didn't help myself. He's available all the time, ask questions in class. Reminds me of one of the dudes at NASA way back when with his pocket protector. Love the guy wish he taught in my major (he's mechE)
Great professor, wants his students to succeed. If you care enough to put the work in you'll do fine. Accessible outside of class and willing to take time to help.
Minton is a really good lecturer, but his notes are hard to understand if you don't go to class. Attendance is taken, so you should go anyways, but if you skip class you could fall behind even though he posts all his lecture slides on Blackboard. Tests are similar to what is given in class as well.
Morgan is very passionate about teaching engineering and it shows. He always is ready to help students and teach them well. This course gets difficult and tests and the final are worth a total of 75% of your grade, so you'll definitely want to study for them. Circuits were my most difficult unit, so go to office hours for it. Only a few HWs.
Morgan was the definition of just a chill guy. He knows a lot about engineering and made even the most difficult topics followable. The class itself was very difficult but that's just engineering.
Minton is such a great professor. He really cares about his students and wants them to succeed. He also is really funny and it was a great way to start off the year.
Super nice guy that cares about his students and tries to prepare them for the engineering tests.
Professor Minton was amazing in class and always very accessible outside of class. Go to office hours, this course is meant to be hard and Morgan is more than willing to help you if you make an effort to ask. Lectures were relatively easy and minimal homework. Attendance is mandatory and there are group lab projects that go with every unit.
Professor Minton is super passionate about the material. Lectures can be dry, but he makes an effort to provide helpful resources like practice tests. The workload is manageable - just stay on top of homework and you'll do well. unstuck AI was a lifesaver for test prep.
There is not a lot of homework for this class. His exams are not too hard and he lets you have cheat sheets on the exams. Morgan is very laid back and is more than willing to help you when you are stuck. Very good professor.
Professor Minton is a phenomenal instructor that you should DEFINITELY choose for ENGR-103. This course is difficult and covers a lot of material, but it was very well taught. If you are choosing between a different instructor or an inconvenient class time, pick the inconvenient class time with Professor Minton. You will not regret it.
Actual professor was pregnant, but Minton came in and was knowledgeable, clear, accessible, and kind. Wonderful prof, teaches clearly, is reasonable with dates, and, again, is the most accessible professor I've ever had. Absolutely a 5/5.
Minton is a great choice for GES 255. His review session and practice tests closely mirror the exams and he is very generous with partial credit. The mandatory lectures often focus on deriving formulas, but the remainder of lectures are practice examples that mirror exams as well. You're allowed a double-sided formula sheet for each exam as well.
Minton stepped in to teach this course after the first exam and it was a night and day difference. He was very transparent on his expectations for the exams and gave out a generous amount of partial credit. He was also very flexible in the class schedule and would spend more time on a particular subject if the class didn't undertsand it.
Very nice and understanding, also hilarious. Going to office hours is extremely helpful and he made an 8 am class enjoyable. Super clear on grading criteria asking you to organize your thoughts and he'd give you lots of free points. Definitely top 3 for MeM Professors
Great teacher, gives a good overview of the class and everything was made clear. The tests are the majority of the grade so make sure to pay attention to them!
Minton was awesome! The experience I got out of this class definitely confirmed his very positive reputation among students. His lectures were always very practical in nature and he seemed to have a mental roadmap of how he wanted us to learn the material and why...we also were allowed a front-and-back sheet with formulas from the (very good) book.
Prof. Minton is engaging in his lectures and explains the material clearly. The homework is simple as long as you attend and participate in class. Tests are also straightforward as long as you study beforehand, and Prof. Minton is very good at helping you understand the material if you are struggling. Recommend.
I took him for 101 and it was super easy. Really nice guy and the homeworks are not hard at all. The final group project is easy too.
Very good teacher. 104 is a slightly difficult class in my opinion, and I think he taught very well. He had a ton of opportunities for office hours if you ever needed to see him. Beware tests are worth 50% of your grade and the final is worth 25% so make sure you do well on those.
Professor Minton is an amazing professor. I got off to a very poor start to the semester and Professor Minton was able to not only help me get back on track. But not make me feel dumb in the process. Easy going guy, take him if possible.
