If you have to take chem 101, take him!! 3 exams and 1 final. If you do better on the final, he replaces the lower grade! You have a good number of owl problems but plenty of time to do them and they really help you learn the material. All lectures are recorded and put on blackboard. I think i went to class maybe 10 times and got a A!
Mr. Stefik is a really young, fresh, and clear cut teacher. He brings energy to the classroom by playing interesting chemistry videos at the start of every class and he posts everything to blackboard (EX: lecture recordings, applets, past tests, and study tips for his future tests) He is really into iClickers and will give out extra credit.
Be careful if you like curves, because he will NOT for the life of him, give you one. Instead, he gives you alternatives to fix your grade near the end of the semester. He is very smart. He gives you A LOT of resources that helps you out when test time comes. Not too shabby of a teacher.
He is very intelligent, but that makes it hard to understand what he is talking about. He's nice, wants students to succeed, his tests are ok, but the final was very difficult. I had A's on every test but ended up with a B bc of the final. He gives a little EC & a chance to improve your grade but you HAVE to do well on the final for it to help.
Hard class, no curves. Not a boring professor though. He makes you stay awake and keeps you interested.
He's really nice and tries hard to make lectures interesting. Hardest class I've taken. He said this class was a majority of review from high school chemistry but I only saw the material in the first few chapters before. I would take him again but maybe study more than the 12 hours per test I did this semester.
Stefik replaced your earlier test grade with a better one if you earned a higher grade for that portion of the final exam... This guy really wants to see success from his students. Frequently asks for feedback from students, gives lots of opportunities for extra credit - there's really no reason anyone who gives an effort wouldn't get an A.
He doesn't teach much. He just kind of gives you problems and then gives you a ton of time to work on it in class then he moves on. Not much help.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! He reads off powerpoint slides, I could do that on my own. His tests are just about impossible. He also teaches like the entire class should know the material already just like he does. Not the case, avoid him at all costs.
Professor Stefik is a really great teacher and just an all around good guy. He really wants his students to succeed and gives them the tools to do so (lots of practice tests, online tools, office hours,etc.). The course material isn't easy so you do have to put in some effort in order to receive a good grade, but it's definitely not too difficult.
I didn't like him at all. Only read off the slides. He seemed like a good guy, but seemed like he expected you to already know the material. He seemed to over help, but when I asked, didn't help much at all. I wouldn't take him.
This class was pretty eh. He's pretty nice professor, but he teaches by the slides. Goodbye and good luck. P.S.: I hope you're a fan of Rubix Cubes
Read right off the power point slides and talked to us like we all had doctorates in chemistry. 3 tests, plus a final. Gave extra credit for iClicker... only 7 points. Let your grade on each section of the final replace your test grade. Don't take him if you can get into another class. If you can't, hang in there, go to SI.
He tapes all of his lectures and puts up lots of extra help on Blackboard. The OWL assignments are a lot if you don't keep up with them, but he is pretty good about extending dates. He gives random extra credit for answering Iclicker questions in class. He only wants the best for his students.
Never went to class, put all his explanations and lectures online. Owl is easy, he will help if asked. Does not do much in class though, reads right from slide, why i never went. Got a B+ as a final grade.
All the powerpoint slides are provided for you and Stefik records every lecture and puts explained practice problems online. If you ask for help, he'll definitely help. He also puts practice exams online which are very very similar to the exams in class. The OWL is easy and after doing the practice exams, his exams are easy. I never attended class.
Stefik is one of the most intellectual professors I've had so far. He covers the material pretty well and offers examples for the class to participate in. Don't feel intimidated if you can't answer questions in class as OWL is helpful. The exams are also easy as he offers 4 practice exams. If you make A's on exams, you don't have to do all OWLs.
Stefik is beyond clear during his lectures. He makes sure that students understand what he is teaching. He enjoys his job and makes the 8:05 lecture a little bit more bearable. He gives practice exams that are almost the exact same thing as the real exam. He is a great teacher and an easy A as long as you do the practice exams.
He goes through the class as fast as he can and doesn't explain well. He thinks you already know the material. He does give practice tests but they're not similar to the actual tests. Owl hw is extensive. I wouldn't take him if you're trying to actually learn something or pass.
Dr. Stefik is a wonderful professor. He gives practice exams of previous semesters so you'll have a good idea of what to expect on the actual exam. His lectures are clear, and he loves doing demonstrations during class! Very concerned with the progress students are making in his class. Gives tons of resources to aid with studying.
Dr. Stefik is amazing. He's tests aren't hard and he makes his lectures interesting. He has a great sense of humor and he's super nice. As long as you study, do the homework, and do the practice exams you will be fine. He gives his students all of the material needed to pass, so there is no excuse to fail.
Stefik was a great CHEM 111 professor. It's obvious that he's very knowledgeable and passionate about the subject. He keeps lectures interesting and fun. I really enjoyed his class, which is saying something because I had it at 8 am monday mornings.
Great class. Tests are straight forward and easy if you do all the practice tests that are provided. The practice tests are basically the same as the tests. Class participation matters and you can not skip class because there are clicker quizzes used as attendance. Homework is due every week but as long as you stay on top of your work it is not bad
Stefik was absolutely my favorite professor during that semester. He is so smart and great and teaching the material. You have to come to every class because he does clicker quizzes as attendance grades but don't worry he never just lectures the whole time. Make sure to stay on top of the material because you can fall behind quickly.
Professor Stefik is a very clear cut Chemistry professor. It is a tough class, with many students, however Professor Stefik makes it feel personal. He tells jokes and drives the course based off of I-Clicker Polls. If the class understands a topic, he will move on, if not, he will take the time to explain.
Professor Stefik was a great teacher. He gives lots of practice exams to help you prepare for tests and uses clickers for attendance grades. Our class had a ton of OWL homework which was very tedious but helped my grade- unfortunately I was only 1.5 points from an A. Would definitely recommend!
The course is pretty hard itself and Stefik doesn't really make it any better. His lectures are long but they don't really help and his exams are a little rough. He doesn't give extra credit and the online homework (OWL) is very tedious! However, attendance and homework will help boost your grade. I would recommend you take another professor though
Stefik was my favorite teacher this semester. He was so clear with what you needed to know and he was really good at explaining things in different ways so you could always understand it. Sends everyone at least three practice tests before every test which are VERY helpful. I had him at 8am Mon and Wed and I didn't mind getting up to go to class.
Dr. Stefik was by far the best professor I had this past semester. He does everything he can to help you pass the class, but no extra credit. He can be intimidating at first but he's funny. Gives practice exams for every exam and he encourages you to do them. DO THEM, they give you an idea of what to expect and sometimes questions are reused.
Stefik is a great teacher. Hes into what hes lecturing and explains everything really well. He puts all of the lectures online. There are iclicker questions each day, so dont skip. There is owl hw due each week but its not difficult to get done. The tests are exactly like the sample tests he puts online. If you do the sample tests and OWL, its easy
Great professor, very interactive and enthusiastic for a chemistry class at 8am. Graded test very quickly and each section of the final has the potential to replace previous exam grades if you do better. Provides more than enough information/examples to do well. Attendance is taken via iClicker. Expect homework through Owl.
I recommend Stefik, his class was not easy but was not extremely difficult either. He gives most of his homework through owl and takes attendance via iclicker. His exams are not that difficult if you study but you need to study or go to SI sessions in order to get a good grade on the exams. He is very intelligent and has a good sense of humor.
Prof. Morgan Stefik is a fantastic Chemistry teacher. I had him this past semester for CHEM 111 and I loved his class. If you pay attention and follow along with your lecture notes book from the bookstore, you shouldn't have a problem. He puts practice exams up for every exam and they are almost identical to the exams he gives us. Take his class.
I enjoyed Professor Stefik this semester. Every exam he gives practice test from previous years. The owl homework is due every Friday but it is not difficult. In class he provides iClicker question but as long as you get at least one right, you get credit for that day. I failed every exam but the homework and iclicker helped tremendously. Take him
I thought this class was extremely easy. I took Chem in high school (Not AP) and it was the same thing except instead of a whole year it was pushed into 1 semester with a little more detail. I Didn't work that hard and got a high A in the class. All you have to do is take the practice tests he puts on blackboard before the real test and youll pass
Dr. Stefik was fantastic. He worked through examples, explained topics well, and gave practice tests for each exam. The homework can be technically complex but you have plenty of time to complete it. Exams are very fair. Textbook has examples but I didn't use it or need it. I would definitely recommend Stefik for an intro to chem class!
Dr. Stefik was so awesome. He explained things really well and sometimes he'd even do an experiment in class. He gives like three practice tests for every exam and as long as you do them, you'll pass with an A.
Stefik is one of my fav professors. He gives really cool demonstrations that tie in with the lectures. Does a really good job of explaining the equations. iClicker quizzes count towards attendance so show up!! Online homework due every Saturday. Really nice dude. Highly recommend.
Stefik is by far one of if not my best professor. He does an excellent job of making the information very clear and fun. He is funny in general and I HIGHLY recommend taking his class.
This is a teacher who is passionate about his research and talks about it in class. Unfortunately he researches in the field of nanotechnology which is of no interest to me. He frequently speeds through problems that the class needs help with and does not review in class for the tests. Be ready to learn the material outside of class to get an A.
Lectures are heavy but all the slides are given to you in the notebook. He gives you many practice exams to study and basically tells you exactly how the test is going to be. HW is heavy, but is pretty easy just have to take the time to do it. He's pretty funny and is really smart.
Gives three real exams from past years to study off of each exam but just overall hard class. Super smart guy which made it sometimes hard to learn from him because he could do things so fast. He made class as interesting as possible for a boring 1 hour 15 min lecture!! You also must come to class for clicker credit it is a huge part of your grade
Stefik makes chemistry as entertaining as it can be with lots of demonstrations and jokes. Make sure you show up to class because attendance is taken through i clicker quizzes.
I was worried about taking this course because of how difficult everyone said it was but I made it out with a good grade and a better understanding of the material. There is really no reason anyone should fail with all the materials and extra videos he MAKES and gives us from other professors. If you do the practice test you will ace each test.
He is a super good teacher and it is easy to get an A or a B. He gives you a ton of practice tests and practice problems before each exam that are identical to the exam he gives. As long as you pay attention in class, participate with clicker questions, and study all practice tests you'll be good
Class is super hard and boring but he does a good job teaching it and is pretty entertaining. Defiantly have to work hard to get an A.
Chem 111 is a fairly difficult class, you will definitely have to study and work hard for an A. Stefik is a great teacher, pretty entertaining and very good at explaining concepts and answering questions. Class is pretty boring but thats just chemistry. Would recommend you take his class
A really great guy that's really passionate about chemistry. You basically have to teach yourself the material because he skips whole sections and doesn't follow the required textbook with all the notes. Attendance is mandatory but you wont learn anything in class.
Dr. Stefik is a cool guy, and he's ridiculously smart. He makes an effort to keep lectures interesting, does demonstrations every now and then, and takes attendance every class. The class is tough but fair, but if you really work hard, you'll make the grade you want. Do the practice exams, they help a ton.
From a grade perspective, it doesn't really matter who you take for CHEM 111, as the CHEM department has eliminated almost all subjectivity in grading. There are 110 questions between the four exams you'll take in the course. If you want an A, you'll have to receive full credit on homework and participation, and get at least 97/110 exam ?s correct
Dr. Stefik is one of the best for your intro level Chem classes. He is extremely clear and great at explaining things. He gives three practice tests before each exam and they are very similar to the real thing. Though he can be a little conceited at times, he does genuinely care that you understand the stuff- you NEED to read the book though!
He did not go into detail explaining how he got equations and we were often left wondering what just happened. He was nice and encouraging when I was in his class but after I dropped then emailed him about my books, he sent back a bunch of ***. I have no clue what that meant but I felt that was a rude response when I was asking for help.
Chem is a difficult subject in general and Professor Stefik only teaches one way, so if you aren't able to understand the way he teaches, you may not do well in the class. However, he's extremely fair and posts a bunch of practice exams from the past semesters that you can do before the exam and if you do those, I promise you'll do well.
Good teacher , for exams gives a lot of old practice tests that are just like the test! Does a lot of demos The only thing is there are assigned seats but not that bad he lets you pick the first couple days.
One of the best professors I have ever had. He has perfected CHEM 111. Everything in the class is very organized and he provides many ways to study and learn the material. That being said he holds his students to a fair standard. You have to be willing to learn. If you want to learn you will love this class. He prepares students for the future.
There are professors who are really nice and can teach, those who are not nice and can teach, and those who are neither nice and able to teach. Dr. Stefik is not nice and also cannot teach. He rushes past material that the class obviously doesn't understand, explains problems the hard way, and his personality is mean and obnoxious.
Dr. Stefik is the best professor I've had yet. I came into the semester thinking this class was going to be hard but it ended up being on of my easier classes of the semester. Don't get me wrong the class is tough and you will have to work hard for an A. It's not him it's the chem department. The exams literally come from the PE's he gives before.
Taking Stefik for Chem 111 is not easy. There's no extra credit in the class like in the other chem classes. You just have to work harder than most other students to get an A in the class. His practice tests are amazing study tools and they are the reason for my A. He posts solutions to problems we went over in class which are very helpful.
The way that Stefik lectures does more to confuse you than to help you. After a week the only notes I took were formulas and just studied myself at home. When multiplying and dividing he would also often put fractions over fractions and never actually used sig figs. At the end, he even had to change grading methods because of everyone's grades.
Some students around me paid no attention but complained Stefik was a bad professor, so take bad reviews lightly. He literally allowed for the final to replace all 3 of your previous exam grades no matter the score. My friend failed 2 of the 3 exams and still made a B- because they made a B on the final combined with HW and clicker grades.
Listen the only reason I passed his class was because of the SI leader this semester. His teaching was all confusing as he purposefully explained things in a complicated manner. He offered no extra credit, unlike the other chem 111 professors. He was also very strict with homework and was condescending at times.
He really doesnt teach at all and mostly just talks. wastes alot of class time by showing pointless videos at the beginning of class then he discusses the videos for no reason. he flies through examples so its not really helpful at all. hopefully you have a good SI leader if youre stuck in this class. also has an attitude. wastes so much class time
I know a lot of people did not like Stefik, but I think he does a great job teaching the material. He actually does lots of practice problems in class and he gives so many practice exams that, as long as you do them, guarantee you a good grade because they are so similar to the exam he gives you. Wish I had him for 112.
Dr. Stefik knows his material and is passionate about teaching Chem 111. His lectures are very bland, but he provides several practice questions throughout the class that test our knowledge of the material and he usually will provide an explanation for the correct answer. He also provides several practice exams that are very similar to each exam.
Stefiks lectures werent incredible but he did what he could for the massive class sizes. A lot of demonstrations he was really excited about and a ton of practice problems that were identical to the test. Blackboard has practice tests, common missed problems, and literally anything you could need to study. Practice tests were very similar to test
Stefik is a great professor. He really cares about his students' grades and wants them to understand however if you're not willing to put in the work I can see how it would be difficult. He won't hold you hand but everything you need to get an A he gives you. He gives more practice exams than another other chem prof and even puts up solution videos
Hes a great teacher. Chem 111 isnt a hard class if you do what he says and USE THE PRACTICE EXAMS to study!!! I got As on every exam because I studied the way he recommended. The class was no hard for me, but I do know of some that struggled. This class has SI thats also very useful if you dont understand something in class. TAKE STEFIK!!!
I loved Dr. Stefik! So many people seemed to not like him, but I dont understand why. He made me enjoy Chemistry. I didnt pass Chem 111 the first time I took it with a different professor, but Stefik helped me to actually learn the material. He also would sometimes explode stuff in the middle of lecture which was cool.
He gives you everything that he possibly can to help you with the class. He even does demonstrations in class to take a break from lectures. He really wants you to pass and he gives you enough practice exams to do so. He puts up at least 5 practice exams, most missed questions and you can email him a question and he will get back to you.
Stefik is a great lecturer and clearly knows a lot about what he is teaching. He does several in class demonstrations to help solidify knowledge and just add some fun. Chemistry is a very difficult class, but he tries to help by giving many practice exams for preparation and providing video answers to most missed questions.
Very good professor. CHEM 111 is a pretty difficult course so Dr. Stefik gives a ton of resources to help you pass. He actively tries to have engaging interesting lectures with cool demos and working through problems. The textbook is necessary as the lecture slides dont cover everything and the book has tables and lists that need to be memorized.
Stefik is great. At first I didn't like him because he kinda goes off on tangents but as the semester went on, he became my favorite professor. Super knowledgable and caring and gives so many resources that there is no excuse not to pass. This class is very hard but he makes it bearable.
prof stefik is extremely knowledgeable about chemistry and can pretty much answer any question you have. he does a lot of extra things to try and give his students the most possible resources to learn too
Dr. Stefik really wants all of his students to have a solid grasp on chemistry and cares only about you understanding the material.
Stefik is a good bet for chem 111. He gives you everything you need to do well in the class. Take advantage of practice tests and the solution videos he posts and you will do well. I got a 75 on the first exam and 100 on the next because I started using these resources. Drops lowest exam and the exams are EXACTLY like the practice. Uses iclicker.
Dr. Stefik is a great professor for chem 111. He explains everything thoroughly, gives you plenty of resources, and chances to ask questions. When/if you speak with him face-2-face, he can come off conceited or condescending. Overall, he wants you to succeed. He does quite a few live experiments.
Really great professor. Every lecture he would find a way to integrate some sort of demonstration to keep us entertained, always right around the halfway point when people start to lose interest. I literally got to watch fireball explosions in class. This guy is willing to help you understand chemistry while still keeping it fun. Dont miss out.
He is a nice guy and passionate about chem. Go to class and do hw and thats half the battle. Tests are hard, but he puts practice tests online from previous semesters. Study those super well and you will do fine. I did 3-5 practice tests depending on how I felt about the material and got A's on all the tests.
Dr. Stefik really wants everyone to succeed. He provides a lot of good resources including practice tests in order to help us get the best grades we can, but he is strict against cheating. There is some homework THAT CANNOT BE COMPLETED PAST THE DUE DATE and clicker questions during class to help with grades.
TAKE DR STEFIK FOR CHEM111! He may come off condescending at first, but he grew on me and I love his teaching style. He is good at keeping you engaged in his lectures. I was VERY scared to take a college level chemistry but this class wasn't nearly as bad as it seems. Do exactly as he says. finish your hw, take LOTS of practice tests, SI SESSIONS
Dr. Stefik is definitely one of the best professors I had this semester. His lectures were great. They were always filled with examples to make sure you understood what was going on. Overall, Dr Stefik is a great professor!
Statistically, over 20% of students fail CHEM 111 at UofSC, it is hard. However, stefik will give you the correct resources to do well. His averages were the highest this year. If you choose to slack and not do the practice tests which are usually exactly like the exams then that is on you. For CHEM 111, Stefik is one of the best.
Dr. Stefik knows what he's talking about. He's a great prof to learn from. Keep in mind, entry level chem courses are already going to be difficult, but this is the right prof to take. He provides the most study materials for his exams, and if you're willing to do the work you will succeed in his class. Be ready to do the work!
In high school I hated chemistry but Stefik really helped me learn how to enjoy it. Read the textbook, do the homework, and listen to the lectures and you'll be fine. He provides a grade calculator so you can always figure out what you need to get on an exam or something. Tons and tons of practice tests too. He wants his students to succeed.
I cannot speak to any other professors that teach CHEM111. I found that Dr. Stefik was arrogant and seemed to care more about research than actually helping students succeed. There is absolutely no chance your email will be responded to. At the end of the semester, I was so close to an A and he did not even respond to my numerous emails.
Awesome! Got me to love chemistry
best ever, not hard if you study for tests
Dr. Stefik is a great professor and made me actually like chemistry. He gives plenty of extra resources such as practice exams and extra videos. Do plenty of these and the exams will be easy. One of the best science teachers I've ever had.
Dr. Stefik is a wonderful professor who really focuses on making sure his students understand the concepts in his lectures. He goes in-depth and provides numerous examples and practice problems in lectures to ensure a thorough understanding of the topics. He provides a ton of resources to help students succeed! Pay attention and do the work!
Dr. Stefik is my favorite professor thus far. He takes the first day of lecture to go through how you can pass by giving statistics from his previous classes. He is very knowledgable and wants you to pass! Our class had the highest class exam averages all semester, he gives at least 8 practice exams before each exam to make sure you do your best.
Professor Stefik is probably the best Chem 111 teacher here at UofSC. Our class averages for exams were higher than the other professors. Make sure you attend class and pay attention for iClicker credit. DO THE PRACTICE EXAMS prior to exams to ensure you know the content. Half of your final replaces lowest exam grade.
I had no background in chemistry so having stefik was a blessing! He has lectures structured to where you must read the material before and he works problems out with you in class in a very clear way. Great professor!
A great professor! He was so inspirational and wanted his students to succeed! Chemistry is a hard subject, and I did not remember anything from high school. He was great!
I honestly expected better for this class and professor, a lot of people like Stefik but I just can't seem to find the appeal. The lectures are not the best and the example problems done in class are not as hard compared to the exams. Iclicker required and done every class, exams given on friday nights at 6pm (very inconvenient when I work)
I honestly really liked his lectures and thought they were really helpful. He does move a little fast, but recorded lectures are always posted after. He goes other each topic and provides lots of examples and practice to help you succeed on the tests. If you take multiple practice exams before the test, you should succeed in his class.
Prof. Stefik does a great job of teaching the material and also provides tons of practice tests for you to take before the official tests. His attitude is great and wants to make sure you really are learning. Has mandatory in-class iClicker problems and assigns 10-20 problem homework assignments almost every week, but it's not a big workload.
Dr. Stefik is by far the best professor for Chem 111. Provided plenty of practice exams that led to his classes having the highest exam averages. He does several experiments in class that are fun and engaging. Typically homework every week, but only 10-25 questions. He also makes bonus and overview slides to help his class understand better. 10/10
For the time Stefik has in class, he makes amazing use of it! Though lectures are full of content, he allows students work out problems in class, has amazing visual demonstrations, and opens class everyday with quirky videos. He truly cares about our success, providing tons of practice exams and study tips. He also has high CHEM111 exams average.
Absolutely amazing professor. Wasn't into the class in the beginning, but he managed to make it easier for me in a way that it was still hard. He is very passionate about this subject and you can tell. Provides practice exams for all the exams. Gives "extra credit" homework, usually podcasts that are interesting.
Good professor, obviously very knowledgeable. I always felt prepared for exams after using the resources provided. He lacks personality but makes up for it with his lectures and experiments. Attendance mandatory and tracked with iClicker questions. No. Sympathy. So have yourself together!
Very knowledgable, but somewhat bland. Had some cool experiment examples. Exams were fair. We were given plenty of practice exams prior to taking each exam. Does his best to answer questions in lecture, but outside of class you can only contact the course manager. Only need 1 correct IClicker response for daily participation. Hw for every chapter.
Dr. Stefik is a very solid choice for first-year chemistry. He shows tons of visual demonstrations, with examples both during lectures and at your leisure online. Even some fun chemical experiments! You also have many practice exams you can take before the real ones to help you better study and prepare. Again, a very solid choice!
Just attend class, get easy quiz credit, keep up with your homework, and do every practice exam he offers, while making notes of the different types of problems. I just did poorly on exams because my memory isn't that great, but even without doing studying aside from what I already mentioned, you should be getting a B or higher.
Stefik makes sure you know the proper ways to study and makes old exams accessible to study from. He is thorough in his lectures and goes over a ton of practice questions which turns out to be really helpful. I highly recommend him especially if you aren't familiar with chemistry. Also he is willing to answer any questions you have.
Stefik is my absolute favorite. All of the chem111 exams and homework are the same no matter your professor. When I had Stefik, his sections consistently made higher averages on the exams than the other professors. You will learn chemistry better from Stefik than anyone else. He is the best chem professor hands down. He also gives some ec if needed
Dr. Stefik is one of the smartest people I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. He is so passionate about chemistry and you can tell in his lectures. He's so funny and dorky without trying to be and it makes his lectures really immersive and bearable.
I think Professor Stefik is great at teaching a well rounded course to a large class. He is open to questions, discussion, and feedback. He explains the content in an understandable way. Dr. Stefik is very passionate about chemistry and that is reflected on his teaching of the course. He cares about the success of his students.
The professor was amazing and he genuinely wanted all of us to pass his class.
Dr. Stefik is very kind, but it is very evident that he normally teaches upper level chemistry. Being in basic chemistry and a first year college student, I came into the class with almost zero knowledge on the subject. He just seemed to rush through things and assume we knew it like he did.
mandatory attendance with iclicker app subscription mandatory, lots of homework due every week, 3 virtual exams at 6pm on fridays, boring but easy classes, follows powerpoint in lecture and does a few practice problems. personally moves too slowly for me, but good intro level class
Chem is a hard subject in general, but Dr. Stefik tried to make the class fun and was very passionate about the subject. I would take his class again if I had the opportunity.
Honestly didn't really love Professor Stefik. I felt when I would ask him questions he would slightly talk down to me and make me feel like my question was stupid. Besides interacting with him the class wasn't too bad. Sometimes it felt like he took easy concepts and made them more difficult by the way he would teach them.
Professor Stefik was very difficult and did not explain concepts well at all. The homework is absolutely impossible and tutoring for this class does not work. AVOID THIS CLASS!
attempts to be engaging even in with large classes, does live experiments in class, explains the course content well (and better than other chem111 I've heard) classes consist of reviewing notes and doing practice problems consistently references textbook readings, but it is not necessary
Lectures were pretty interesting for the most part. He uses iClicker, and discusses things said in the exit poll at the beginning of each class, which I thought was considerate.
Stefik is a great teacher. He is very obviously passionate about chemistry which is good to have in a teacher because it makes him not boring. He also is very good at answering questions, and re-explaining. He also does demonstration and shows fun videos sometimes so the lecture is pretty engaging.
You must go to class otherwise you will be so lost. The practice tests are so similar to the exam, if you do those until perfection, you'll do well. You won't want to miss lecture for the sake of missing material, but he uses iClicker for attendance. The tests were easy and he will mention readings but you don't have to do them.
Dr. Stefik is a very smart guy and he understands chemistry very well. Although he is very intelligent, he is not the best at teaching the material. His practice exams look exactly like the real ones, yet for the most part, I found to just be reteaching myself everything because he's not the easiest to follow in lecture. I wouldn't take him again.
I found his course to be INSANELY hard but I do not put the blame on him. He gives you an insane amount of resources to ensure success and is clearly passionate about what he does/teaches. Definitely take him!
He is a fine professor and reviewed things well. He did some experiments in class which was cool. Lots of examples during class and takes iclicker attendance. Not the nicest guy (be ready for him to sigh if the class gets questions wrong on iclicker) but reliable and explained things pretty good. He is definitely passionate about chemistry.
Stefik is passionate about chem and you can tell in his lectures. Iclicker is used for attendance/quiz grades. He sometimes does experiments during the lecture that are cool. The practice exam is exactly like the real exam. He says to read the textbook, but you don't have to. He can overcomplicate things, but in general he's a decent prof.
He is very passionate about chemistry and it can be difficult for him to explain things in more than one way. I benefited the most from the practice exams he posted and watching videos online. There is homework due every Sunday and iClicker quizzes for atttendance. There are 3 exams and a cumulative final.
Chem is not my strongest subject and there are better profs IMO if you already know you aren't good at chem. Uses IClicker for attendance. Lots of extra help on blackboard. You get from the class what you put into it. I personally learned better from all the extra help on Blackboard. All exams are online. Lots of HW due on every Sunday.
I have never been great at chemistry, but Dr. Stefik really made it so much easier. He would explain the material in ways you could actually understand and give great examples. Sometimes, he would do fun lab experiments during lecture. He provides plenty resources to help you do great on the exams!
Professor Stefik is passionate about chemistry, but can sometimes overcomplicate the material. The lectures are helpful with examples and experiments, but the real learning happens with resources like the practice exams and unstuck ai. Put in the work and you'll do well.
Dr. Stefik is amazing. He's hilarious and super excited to share his knowledge and experience in chemistry. He is bound by the overall format of Chem 111, but he adds his own tips and insight. All the homework and tests are the same across the board for all Chem 111 classes at the university, but Dr. Stefik makes the material easy to understand.
boof ah professor
He definitely is a great professor! Very easy to understand his teaching. Gives a ton of homework, though, but it helps overall with the grade.
Prof. Stefik tends to overcomplicate material in class. The class overall is not hard.. if you do the work on your own. Lectures are a bit boring and honestly easier to teach yourself the material. Lots of homework but pretty easy to do it quickly and it boosts your grade. I would try to find another professor to take this class with.
Prof. Stefik was not the best at explaining the gen chem material. I feel like he was itching to explain further, but had to stick to the curriculum. The practice exams helped to some extent, but I was not prepared for some of the questions, no matter how in-depth my studying was. I would not take his class for future chem courses or 111.
Homework every week due sunday with seven attempts. EXTREMELY Lecture heavy, often times he just talks off slides, but does problems on the screen. Iclickr for class participation so it is mandatory and annoying. Makes topics so much harder than needed. Need to read textbook/ take notes before class to understand and keep up
Professor Stefik is a great professor for students who truly resonate with the material presented. The course itself isn't very difficult; however, the 220 homework assignments can feel almost useless in the grand scheme of things. Additionally, his lectures can be very boring, and he tends to ramble on and not get to the actual point.
Dr. Steffik truly wants his students to succeed. Encourages lots of practice. Overall great lecturer for an intro class.
Every professor gives the same 4 exams, 220 HW assignments, and same lecture. He takes attendance using iClicker participation questions. Sometimes he'd spend too much time lecturing, when it would be more beneficial to do practice problems. He is very smart and moves fast, which can make understanding new and difficult concepts harder at times.
