He gives great tests... he gives a study guide of exactly whats on the test and has a test review before every test. Take him!
Very easy class. He is also a funny guy if you listen to him. Easy test!!
If you show up to class and do your part he will do his. His test are not that bad either if you study.
If you attend class and take notes you will do fine. he's funny and helpful as long as you put forth some effort.
I really liked him a lot, and if he taught the 2nd world history, I would take him again. I would recommend him. As long as you take good notes, you'll do fine in the class. TAKE HIM!!

Accent a little hard at first, but an easy class. he gives study guides for the mulitple choice tests that are VERY straightforward. An A is quite possible
He gets lots of his exam questions from the text reading
(Consequently) I Hated this Professor. (In Retrospect) he was very hard and does not give a bit of help to his students.(Switch back to the offline) He is a very mean person and very hard test giver. By the way he says these words in parenthesis alot!
ok teacher. tough to understand. don't expect help what so ever.
He is very hard to understand. He doesn't really offer to help. Wants his GTAs to do all of the work. His tests are not that bad but can be confusing. Go to class and take good notes and a B is easy to make.
go to class and take notes. he gives an outline for class and study guide for the test. study the notes and study guide and the class is not too bad. its an easy class but you have to work for your grade
Dr. Bian's class was extremely doable. He is a very nice man and his test were more than fair.
An OK guy. He is kind-of hard to understand at 1st but you will get use to it. The tests are not bad at all. An A is definately possible.
On of the easiest professors I have had at Auburn. Tests are easy and you get bonus points for just going to cass. Easy A.
wow, what can you say about the guy? his class is boring; a chore if you will. but *you know* his tests are pretty easy if you know your stuff. (* another one of his favorite sayings)
I have a new found hate for history! Don't even close your eyes for two consecutive blinks- he'll call you out for sleeping! The pictures of him in China are hilarious (though he is so biased to "The Motherland!")
This professor is very easy yet very boring. He says he gives extra points if you don't miss any classes but that's a lie.
Tough to understand most of the time, so I stopped going to class and got U-Notes. This doesn't mean you will pull it off like I did if you don't go to class. 50 Multiple Choice Questions on every test, and it's more like 80% lecture!
If you have a hard time understanding foreign teachers then don't take him. That was my main problem. For this class just take notes and go buy the univ. notes and go over the study guide for the test and you'll do fine.
Easy easy class... I did not even go to the lectures. All you have to do is buy the U notes and study them and you will do fine on the tests.
easy class, easy A. lectures can get boring, but as long as you take good notes and know his study guide, his tests are definitely fair. test questions come straight from his study guide. not difficult.
This class sucks, I hated it.
Not a good teacher. Didn't seem to want to be at class. Knew his stuff, but I could barely understand him. Stay away.
He is hard to understand(he mispronounces every fifth word, doesn't seem to want to be at class, and gives hard tests. He gives three 50 question multiple choice tests, and they are HARD. One of my three B's was in his class.
Grow up kids, he was very easy. Put in a couple hours each test and it's an easy A.
DON'T GET HIM
He is a nice guy, but a horrible teacher. You have to go to class every day. Hard to take notes cause he is hard to understand. Get U-notes. He never changes lectures. Study hard for test 3. I wouldn't take him.
great teacher!
He is a little hard to understand but if you know people in the class they can help you out as well. Also, just ask if you dont understand him. I have not taken his tests yet but I take fairly good notes so, well see...He will help you out too.
I love his class. He is easy and he isn't that hard to understand. His test are fair as long as you study.
the worst class i have taken at auburn and i am a 5th year senior. This guy is a true jerk.
bad jokes
He is a very funny man! His jokes make the class more fun, even though they can be a little lame. Tests are easy as long as you study the review sheet. Everything on the test is seen in the notes at one point or another. Just take notes! Also, U-notes are really good for this class.
It is an easy class if you use the study guide and take notes. Study the notes, but skim through the book, too. It didn't take much effort to make an A.
Good teacher. Loves history. Tests are not bad if you complete the study guide and skim through the reading. Taking him next semester, and reccomend him.
He isn't particularly hard if you go to class and take notes. You only have to read the terms he specifies out of the book. Then again, my highest grade so far is an 80. Also, his accent takes some getting used to and it gets in the way sometimes. If you email him he will respond with an answer.
hard to understand at times... you don't have to go to class just get u notes... i've passed all his tests just by using the u notes... i couldn't tell you the last time i went to class... funny guy... very amusing but boring class...
Dr. Bian is extremely fair. Don't expect to cruise through his higher level classes. Expect a challenge. Don't take this class unless you're truly interested in history, otherwise you're wasting everyone's time. If you are interested, and ready to work, then you should find his class rewarding.
I had trouble taking notes in his class. He seemed to talk too slow for my comprehension. He's not really easy and not really hard. U Notes was a life-saver for me in his class, I got a B!
Interesting Subject, difficult to understand due to accent. Quizes before descussions get much harder as semestor progresses
Must sign into class. Hope you get good gta's. All he does is lecture. Tests soo hard
he didn't know what he was talking about...
his lecutres are boring but he gives you plenty of information, you need to read, his tests are hard.
class is boring the only reason I go is to sign in. Lectures alot. Test extremely hard. Happy to make it out of there with a C.
He was a really good teacher, I enjoyed his class. It is easy if you study, but ONLY if you study.
Study the notes and you will be fine. As for Bian, he is hard to listen to because you cannot understand him. Pretty unresponsive to questions.
requirements are clear not impossibile class but requires work
pretty easy class if you put forth the effort. his tests are 50 questions multiple choice. can be hard to understand at times though
awesome class. awesome teacher. You do have to put forth an effort to grade. Just go to class occasionaly and take notes and study the key points from the study guide in your chapters. Only 4 test total. So score good and you get'm back like the next day.Corny jokes. Cool guy. Take him if you can!!!
Not a bad class. Gives study guides that goes exactly with the test. Get U-Notes and study and you will get an easy B or possibly an A. Study hard for 3rd test.
Easy class. but the language barrier makes it difficult to understand. Sit in the front row if at all possible.
This Chinese man is hard to understand. It does not matter how well you know the material because it is mainly opinionated.
He was so hard to understand and the lectures were so boring!!! Get U notes-or better yet-try to get another teacher!!!
This class wasn't SO bad. He's a nice guy but his thick accent makes him difficult to understand. I slacked off a little but still got a B just by doing the reading and going to class. The multiply choice tests and nothing to cry over, just study and you'll do fine.
Drop the class now and get a different professor!! Too hard to understand what he says, cant take notes. RUN!
I studied my notes and the text and was still left in a daze. I met with him in his office and came out more confused than ever. The choices on the tests are sometimes very unclear. They can be all correct, but which is the MOST? He's a quirky lil man and makes corny jokes. Made a C, my worst yet.
Bian is really boring with his lectures but if you take notes and fill out the study guides, you'll do good.I filled out the study guide and never read. I got an A and took him again for 1020
He is a great guy and an easy teacher. Even though he has an accent, he makes sure that you understand what he is saying. His test questions come straight from his study guides and he even gives lecture outlines for every lecture, how much easier can you get? Just put some effort into it.
The lectures are really boring. But the test questions do come straight from the lecture notes, except a few at the end. I stopped going to class and studied the University Notes. It works.
Can't speak proper English. Makes lots of mistakes. It's just hard to understand him. If you take him, sit close to the front.
get out of the class. you MUST take notes in order to do well. it's hard to understand him. his tests are hard. reading the book only helps a little.
He is though but knows his material.
These people are complete idiots. "You have to take notes to do well!" Tell me a history class that you don't take notes. He gives you a study guide which IS THE TEST. I didnt read a page of the book and made an A. You could just get U-Notes and do fine. Only downside is he loves Asian history. EASY
Not terrible, but the only word I understood the whole semester was "test."
i dont know why everbody doesnt like him. he gives study guides to all tests and the tests are exactly the same as the guides. you dont eve hve o go to class because the u-notes are made to go along qith the study guides. sure hes hard to understand but he never minds repeating things.
I loved this class. He made it very interesting so it was easy to pay attention. Go to class and he will round up your grade if you need it.
His class isnt hard, and his tests are straight from the study guides. He says he will bump you up for attendence... ya if you miss like 3 or less. I ended up w/ an 89 average and missed 5 classes and he gave me a B, but other than that, hes a good teacher.
He's one of the few asian professors who can speak english well. Although you have to go to class everyday, the test is 90-95% on your notes. The last 5 or 10 questions are from the book. All that's on the test, he gives a study guide for. If you know how to take notes, take Bian's class. (Oh, and the tests are all multiple choice too!)
GO TO CLASS, tough grader, multiple choice tests, it was hard, but he is a decent lecturer.
WHAT A CUTE LITTLE MAN! I NEVER went to class and got an easy B. Just get the U-Notes and study like crazy the night before and you'll do fine. He does bump up your grade if you have good attendance (but I didn't take advantage of that and still got a B). But he is just so cute..definitely take him!
He is precious, what a cute little man. The class was only difficult because he's hard to understand. But you get used to his tests, and I would reccommend getting university notes, they are a huge help. He is a good teacher and knows a lot about what he is talking about.
The most boring, unclear lecture. Everyone gets U-notes...so if you don't mind spending $14 per test, then you're ok. You can pull off a b with U-notes alone, but not an A.
he is a samauri master and uses his tests as his samauri sord. if you are not ready he will kill you. My friend jackson was ready though and chopped hid head off.
The class is awful!!! His tests are very hard!! I did the study guide, came to class everyday, took notes, and read the book, but still failed. All I didn't do is buy the U notes...so if you don't mind doing all of that and spending $15...have fun with the class! I DON'T recomment the class.
ok, whoever said get U-notes and you'll make a B definitely lied. this cat's NOT easy at all. sure, you come to college and should expect to study, but not like this. at the beginning of the class he'll tell you to study every page of notes for 2 hours. he's not kidding; i think that's the only way you can pass his class. do not take him!!!
you have no idea how hard this man's tests are! i went to class, took notes...and i still need to gap the damn class..just make sure you can speak half chinese cause you can hardly understand the words he says during lectures
REALLY don't like this guy's teaching. Somehow everything we learn connects to the Orient. I couldn't understand half of what he said, so I stopped going to class and got the UNotes instead. Helpful hint: read about the book terms, don't just know the definitions. UNotes worked great for me.
completely ridiculous class. there's pretty much no point in even trying. get a different teacher if you value your grade....... or life.
He is not that bad once you figure out the way he teaches. Get the Unotes and read the book and you should be fine.
everyone says he is so horrible, but my friends and i thought he was extremely easy. all you have to do is by the u-notes for the tests and make note cards or something and do the book definitions w/ detail. no need to go to class. he bumps up your grade w/ attendence, but he bumped mine up 2.5 points and i NEVER went to class take him...so easy!!!
Pretty much, he sucks
he sucks, basically everything is about China and if you think anything diff you're wrong, the u notes help some but you need to go to class if you want to understand anything, get out of his class quick if you want a good grade
If you go to class he can put you to sleep with his sometimes hard to understand speach and his random long pauses. UNotes saved my grade. The less I went to class and the more I studied UNotes the better my grade was. He has a study guide that helps some. 80% of test is on lecture. In all honesty, he is not the worst.. you don't have to read much
WONDERFUL little dude, always helpful and so are his TA's. Dont ask stupid questions in class, and he will love you. He rounded my grade 2% to an A, so i read on of his books. A very long book, but if your intrested in china then i suggest picking up a copy, but take his class!!
His was very hard to understand, spoke broken english and taught mostly about China in a beginning history class. I got the UNOTES which will SAVE YOU, read through the book a little and get the unotes and you will be fine, just make sure yo know everything there ever was about china haha.
This class pretty much was a waste of time. I couldnt understand him if my life depended on it. You take several pages of notes in class each day yet the majority of the tests questions are pulled out of no where. All he talks about is his book that he wrote which takes up class time, thats fine, but dosnt go over material. Most of the class failed
The best history professor I have ever had. I dont think he is teaching World Hist II next semester but if he does... take it! He makes wonderful outlines of his notes so one can easily follow along, and he makes a study guide with everything one needs to know from the book and the notes, for the exam.
Use the University notes to fill out the study guide, and MAKE SURE you jot down a few notes from the text book. I came out with an A- and I never payed a bit of attention in class.
not too hard or too easy.. but he is willing to help you however he can! get the unotes. and do the study guide.
This man was terrible. I made detailed notecards for the study guide and studied days in advance. I never made above a 62 on the tests. GET OUT NOW!
hard test, get u notes..they saved my life. i could never pay attenntion or understand the man, i made a C but i know a lot of people who failed!
I was at class every day, bought unotes, used my notes and read and outlined the book. Im struggling for a B. Too in depth, ussually narrow down to two answers and they look the same. A's in all my other classes.
nicest professor ever... is very willing to help you in any way you can. loves to talk to his students.. although his students can barely understand him.. you HAVE to study, and and study HARD for tests if you want to make good grades. UNOTE UNOTES UNOTES.
prof. bian is my favorite! you definitely need to attend every class. the tests are easy, and straight from the review questions he gives you. NOT NECESSARY TO BUY THE BOOK! i accidentally bought the wrong one and still did great in the class. to avoid buying the book, use the prenhall publishing website. most of the material is online.
Dr.Bian is the best history professor at AU. Exactly 70% of exam is from notes 30% from textbook. He truly knows what he is talking about not just reading from his notes. Very Intelligent and speaks amazing English. He sends out note outlines and study guides for every exam. Exams are 50 question multiple choice and the final is non-comprehensive!
Go to class and take good notes. Study his study guide and you will do good BUT you have to go to class and take the lecture notes. But i would def take him again!
Not very interesting. Attendance actually is mandatory, but if you go sign in at the beginning of class you can leave. For my semester, our GTA took the UNotes, so I just bought those and made high B's. The tests are VERY easy even only studying UNotes. Book questions are tough on the test though.
At first, before you take this class, be prepared to sit through some very boring lectures. I am generally interested in the subject of world history, but the lectures were not much of a learning experience and attendance is mandatory. The class requires a lot of reading as well. It would be a challenge to have an average better than C on Unotes al
This was probably this most boring class I have taken at Auburn. He requires you to know so many details for the tests that its ridiculous. There is also a ton of book reading. I recommend taking someone else.
Terrible Teacher! So hard I studied all unotes and barely made a B. TAs were terrible didnt help at all. Talked about knowing concepts. Alot from book which was hard. Best I made on test was 86.Ms. NEWMAN wrote the 'good' coment below prob. She was terrible as well. Made all A's in other classes. Take BOHANAN gives bonus and better teacher.
You have to go to class and take notes but if you pay attention the tests aren't that bad. I thought the class wasn't that boring, he makes was jokes here and there. I definately would take his class again!! I've missed two days so far and I've gotten an B and an A and I've got one test left!!
You have to go to class and take notes but if you pay attention the tests aren't that bad. I thought the class wasn't that boring, he makes was jokes here and there. I definately would take his class again!! I've missed two days so far and I've gotten an B and an A and I've got one test left!!
The man is kinda crazy, attendance "isn't" mandatory but he takes it anyways, the lectures put you to sleep, take if your really good at paying attention or studying
Though the class will put you to sleep at times, it is not impossible to get an A in this class. My roommate and I have Bian and we both have A's. Tests are strictly over the lectured material. Take notes and get an A...buy U-notes and get an A
4 tests, no textbook. Not as bad as it sounds. I attended class every day but once, I have made a 100, a 98, and my lowest an 88 recently. Final is in the bag. The tests are 40 questions, multi choice. Go to class, get familiar with the material, get Unotes 3-4 days ahead, an A will come to you. Skip or sleep, and you will have trouble. Come on ppl
Dr. Bian is so adorable!!! He makes the worst jokes ever but it's so cute! There were a few GTAs and they were all really helpful. The material wasn't that exciting, but he puts his outline online, as well as a study guide. It can be hard to understand him at first, but it's really not so bad. Do the study guides!!!!
He makes the worst jokes which are just to keep you awake. He's Asian so it's hard to understand him in the beginning but once you're in there a lot it gets better. He makes you read the most boring books and there are test questions on them so read them. He's all about notes. If you don't take good notes you're not going to pass. He does give you
Dr. Bian is a great teacher! He knows his stuff. I am a terrible history student, and I have a B. Go to class, listen, and buy the u-notes-you will do fine. He makes jokes to keep the class interesting. I would definetely take him again. I know a girl who failed 3 histories at Auburn- she said he was the BEST she had.
DROP HIM!! DROP HIM NOW!! He is a nice man, but he rambles on and on about unimportant things. His jokes are awful. You cannot understand a word he says!!! Going to class doesn't help, I have never missed one and have a C. He IS SO BORING... Tests are IMPOSSIBLE even if you study! DROP HIM!!!!!!!
Great teacher. Expects you to do your best, but his lectures are interesting from his perspective. Honest and decent man, his tests are straightforward, not easy, but you have strong satisfaction when you do good. I recommend him for serious students.
Bian is an easy history teacher. Multiple choice test, no cumulative final. He is also one of the few interesting history teachers. The people who do bad in his class don't show up for class or take his test with hangovers like some of my friends did in the class.
He is a good teacher. You have to go to class frequently even though it's not required. He doesn't assign a history textbook so you have to get your notes from his lectures. Only take this course if your serious. Get in good with the GTAs and they will help your grade at the end by a few points. Overall Bian knows history very well.
nice guy.... I just couldn't understand his anicent
Great Professor! Hard to understand but just buy U-notes. Know the study guide he provides and the tests are a joke. Tests are 40 multiple choice, 85% from lecture and 15% from reading material. I only read the U-notes summary on the books and never missed any of the questions pertaining to the reading material. Definitely take his class.
awesome teacher...wanted him for world history 2 but he wasnt teaching it..not hard but interesting and you learn it...my lowest test grade was a 95 with unotes and my notes
Know the Unotes and you will be fine...But know ALL of the Unotes.
VERY HARD to understand, taking notes can be a real pain. Class is pretty boring. He is VERY helpful and will go out of his way to make sure you understand something you do not understand, and will repeat himself over and over again so you can understand him. He is a good professor, but the topic is pretty dry.
Couldn't understand a WORD he was saying all semester. Just read the Unotes and don't bother wasting your time coming to class.
Very good teacher! Hilarious lectures & pretty easy tests. There's a lot of material, so you have to study but if you do, you'll do fine. The U-Notes are extremely helpful too
He is a very nice little man, and he really does know this stuff, but it is so hard to understand him sometimes!!! However, if you can get used to it, you'll be alright. It's very helpful that he puts the outlines up on Blackboard, so you can just download them and then type in the notes as he lectures. Tests are hard, but study and you'll pass.
He is hard to understand. He also thinks he is very funny and attempts to make jokes...I did not like having him as a teacher at all. I highly recommend Unotes, they help a lot. Also download the outlines and study guides.
Beware of test 3.
ewww... soo hard
Not really difficult, but there are definitely easier professors to take. He's hard to understand so if you can't take your own notes, buy the unotes. He doesn't use a textbook, just assigns 4 random books to read. Do the study guides. Study especially hard for the third and fourth exams. No cumulative final.
SO difficult to understand. Makes cheesy jokes that make the class at least a little bit interesting. Textbooks are useless b/c there's only appx. 5 questions on each test. He's very knowledgeable about Asian history, but overall there are better professors to take.
Easy class, good teacher. His accent is difficult to understand in the first week, but after that it's fine. Just go to class every day and take notes. Tests are easy (4 total) if you study at all...except for Test 3. That one required a lot of study.
Bian is a very good teacher. He gives outlines so that you can follow along. His accent is hard to get through sometimes. There is no textbook for this class, but there are 4 books that pertain to the subject matter. he asks easy questions about the books so find a good summary and dont worry about reading them.go to class and study the notes.
IMPOSSIBLE to understand. Test questions are objective...
His class is really not bad. Bian makes tons of corny jokes in class. He is a little hard to understand, but sit close to the front and that will make it easier. Take really good notes and just memorize them. About 5 questions from each test come from the books. The final is a bit harder than the other tests, but not cumulative. Take him!
Overall a fairly easy teacher. Some of his words are hard to understand. There is no textbook so if you go to class and take notes you'll be fine.
I loved this teacher. His accent is not NEARLY as hard to understand as people say provided you are awake and alert. The notes are simple(it's easier to add on to his weboutline notes on your laptop than write them) The tests are not too bad either. Just come to class and study = at leas a B.
I loved this teacher. His accent is not NEARLY as hard to understand as people say provided you are awake and alert. The notes are simple(it's easier to add on to his weboutline notes on your laptop than write them) The tests are not too bad either. Just come to class and study = at least a B.
Morris is so adorable and hilarious! His class isn't easy, but it's not difficult if you go and take notes. He doesn't assign a textbook, but he assigns 4 semi-short novels/biographies. Each of the 4 tests has a few questions about the assigned book for the unit. Simple. Take him if you can.
I loved this class, and I'm not a big history person. While Bian's accent can be thick at times, he has several ways to help you remember the material (mostly corny jokes). He also gives a different approach to history, not so much cut and dry dates, but cultural insight as well. The tests were not hard as long as you took good notes and read.
he's great. his accent takes a little getting used to, but he is a good teacher who knows what he's talking about and tells corny jokes which i love. go to class, take notes, and study and the class is no probably. he's not out to trick you on tests. an A is easily managable.
Take him! He gives a lot of notes, but you want em all. Attendance isn't "mandatory" but if you have 2 absences or less he gives you bonus points at the end. Tests are 40 questions, multiple choice,if you legitly study the study guide he posts you'll do fine. There's also SI sessions so you can basically ace every test. He's corny funny too! lol
Extremely boring. Has no flow in lectures unless you bring your laptop and follow the outline on blackboard. Avoid this professor at all costs.
Couldnt understand him, didnt use a textbook, study guides didnt help at all for tests, and worst of all since he is Chinese, he only focuses on China in his WORLD history course
Do not take this man. He is boring and will not help you out if you're in a grade situation.
If you can't understand Asian accents, don't bother. He also focuses way too much on the "ancient" part of world history. We never even got to the interesting stuff like the middle ages or the renaissance.
The class was boring to me, not interested in history at all, but if you take good notes and read the 4 assigned books, not hard to get an A! nice man, easily approachable, thick accent that takes a little getting used to, but overall great teacher.
His class was challenging but fairly graded. The subjects are boring but he could be funny at times. I would reccommend him.
He's not bad at all. His tests are easy if you study. His lectures follow an outline that you have a copy of to take notes on. There are 4 small books instead of a textbook. READ them and you'll be fine. They don't require intense studying, just read through once. He'll help you if you ask, and you get 2 pts on your avg if you have only 2 absences.
Good teacher, but hard to get an A if you don't read the books. If you want a solid B this is your guy. Only four test but if you study it's not too bad. Just go to class and take good notes.
Cute little professor, kinda cheesy as well. Class isn't hard, but don't skip class. Make sure you're attentive and taking good notes. Pull up the outlines on your laptop and fill in the notes! I didn't read any of the books, but I read the Wikipedia page [and went a little bit more in depth] and I did fine.
You don't need to read the books, just look it up on Wiki. The tests and outlines are very straightforward. His SI sessions are good and its not hard if you put in the slightest effort and actually go to class.
Dr. Bian is adorable. His class wasn't too hard. I never read the books and got decent grades on the tests (low As and high Bs). Tests were very straightforward and came from the lectures and basic facts about the books. Wikipedia woks just fine.
Dr.Bian is the sweetest man on Earth! He is such an awesome teacher and if you take notes and pay attention it is not hard at all to make a good grade! Attendence is mandatory but it is worth it in the end! He loves to meet his students and is very helpful! He is an awesome teacher and an even better person! I def. suggest anyone to take him!
Good teacher, easy class f you study
Very easy class. Straight up lecture class with 4 tests from your notes. No text book, but 4 smaller books that are easy to read, but also easy to find info on (if reading them isn't your thing). Bian makes the lectures kind of funny but very informative and understandable. Put a little effort in this class and you'll have a good grade.
Pretty easy class, if you listen in class. attendance isn't mandatory, but it helps your grade if you come every day [he will boost your grade]. his accent is strange to understand at first, but you get used to it. overall a good class that is relatively easy.
Dr. Bian is a cool professor. He tries really hard to make the information interesting and relevant. His lectures are funny too. The class is really easy, just go to class and take notes. He puts outlines online for the notes. Skim the books, but don't worry too much about them. The grade is based on 4 tests. Easy class and great professor
You can tell he is really passionate about what he teaches and is always willing to help. You don't have to go to class or read the books to pass the tests - just get the notes from the SI instructor and go to the SI sessions before the tests.
Dr. Bian is super awesome and funny, I loved his class!
Wonderful guy. Tests are directly from the class, make sure that you read the assigned books. He makes classes interesting and his humor is awesome if you actually listen to what he says. Great professor all the way around take the time to get to know him
I loved Dr. Bian! I've always hated history, but I really enjoyed this class. He's FUNNY & passionate about what he teaches. All you have to do to get an A is take notes while he is talking and sparknote the books. Its also good to use your notes to define the terms on his study guides before you take the tests. I'd take him again if I could!
Made an A in the class. Just go to class and take notes and you'll be fine. He's funny and keeps lecture interesting. No work outside of class required, except for studying.
If you have <2 absences you get 2 points on your final average. Test comes directly from notes/study guide. Assigns 4 short novels, but questions about the book are really easy. Go to the SI reviews before tests for the practice test. I studied the night before all of the tests and made an A in the class. Take him!
Great teacher! Is chinese but very clear and will repeat himself if need be. No comprehensive final and if you read the material he gives and go to class you can make an A. Hated history but love it because of Dr.Bian!
Dr. Bian is a very good speaker that made history interesting to me. I feel like he has a genuine concern for his students. Bottom line, if you go to class and take good notes, you can manage to get an A very easily. Plus, if you don't miss too many classes, you get bonus points. Take him!
Dr. Bian is a funny guy and very intelligent. Go to class so you can get bonus points at the end of the year, most test questions are straight-forward but some are slightly vague. Overall great class.
He is very passionate about his subject which make the course interesting. Because there is no text book, the only way to really get an A is to go to class. If you have perfecta attendance he will give you an extra credit point at the end of the semester. Be sure to know all of the key terms that he gives you.
I absolutely loved Dr. Bian, his course is what influenced me to major in Chinese history. If you go to class, take notes, and do the assigned reading you will get an A.
Best teacher ever!! I loved him. His class is fun, actually. His powerpoints are hilarious and he has his own little honor roll for people who do well on his test. Super cool guy. Just study the notes and make sure you know what the books are about and youll do fine. I got an A.
Dr. Bian is great! Lectures are pretty funny. Tests are easy if you go to class and read the required books (or look up synopses online.) You may occasionally miss something in a lecture because of his accent. It rarely happens, but if it does don't be afraid to ask him to clarify after class. He's very helpful and willing to answer questions.
Dr. Bian is a GREAT teacher. Study the notes and you will make A's. His lectures are interesting and he makes jokes to lighten the mood. After each test he puts pictures on the board of all who did well on the test. It's surprisingly motivating. His accent is a little rough but you get used to it after the first week. TAKE HIM!
Dr. Bian is an excellent teacher. If you're willing to come to class and listen, you'll have an A with no problem at all. I never read the books and still did fine. He also offers extra points on your final average for good attendance.
Tests were super hard and you have to go to class or you wont get any notes. He goes super fast!! I never missed a day in his class and made a 79.99 and he didn't round up to a B.
Mr. Bian is extremely straightforward but does not know how to communicate effectively. I went to his office hours several times asking for advice to do better on his tests and all he did was scold me and say 'you just need to do better'. His english is also difficult to understand. I would recommend trying to find a different teacher.
Took him a while back, but it was hard. I made a D on the first test but ended up with an A only because i studied the notes backwards and forwards for a week before the tests. Didn't read the books though. Very hard to understand and goes through slides super quick.
His class is super easy if you attend class and Si sessions. His test are very straight forward however, he does have a lot of questions pertaining to the book.
This guy really knows what he's talking about, which sometimes makes his lectures boring. All he does every class is lecture off of powerpoints, but the tests are very straight forward from the info he gives us. He doesn't use a textbook but instead 4 small books, 1 for each test. If you miss 2 classes or less, he'll bump up your grade.
Dr. Bian is a very nice person. However, English is not his first language, so he can be incredibly difficult to understand. Go to class to take notes from the PowerPoints, but don't expect to get much else from his lectures. If you utilize the study guides he posts on Canvas prior to the tests, you should be fine.
Great Professor. I would definitely recommend him to anyone, as long as you pay attention you can make a B in this class, and if you study you can make an A. I never read the books ans still did fine.
Mr. Morris has hart of droning voice which made me eventually listen to music while just copying the PowerPoints. Make sure you attend the SI sessions and get those quizlets, basically does the study guide for you! He gives books to read but everyone reads the sparknotes and does just fine. He's not the worst or the best.
He is such a great teacher. I have never been interested in history, and he made it enjoyable for me. I never read the books and I did well. The tests are 40 MC questions and they are extremely straightforward. Use the canvas template for notes and you will pass easily. He is extremely passionate and smart. He cracked me up. Take his class!
Only lectures but he shows pictures from his vacations so it's funny. If you get an A on the test he puts your Tigercard picture on the slideshow which is hilarious. Don't have to remember dates, don't go in chronological order but in full sweep of civilizations, easy to follow, all information on the test is in lectures. Didn't read the books
Dr. Bian has a very awkward sense of humor, but it grows on you. History lectures are never fun, but he keeps them as interesting as they can be. This is the only history class I've had where I thought the curriculum was properly structured. I wish he taught hist1020.
Bian wasn't a horrible teacher but I really felt like I was doing a lot of work on my own for this class. Lecture isn't mandatory but you need those lecture notes to pass. He posts lecture outlines and study guides but don't bother with the outlines since they contain mountains of information. Only 4 tests and nothing else grade-wise.
Class wasn't that hard, although the lectures got pretty old and boring really fast. He's really funny once you get used to his humor. Attendance is not mandatory and I ended up skipping like the last 9 lectures and did just fine studying the guide he puts on canvas. Overall a pretty solid choice.
I enjoyed Dr. Bian's class although i did not do well in his class. He is very accommodating to students with special needs and puts up study guides for every test. Completely test grades nothing else, four 40 question tests.
Dr. Bian is a very funny guy once you get to know him. You grade is determined by 4 tests and nothing else. Go to class, because it's a lot of information to take in. You don't have to remember dates. The readings he assigns are on the test (10 questions at the most maybe), but you can still pass without reading it. He gives a study guide too!
Honestly, I hated this class at the beginning. His voice is really monotone and it's hard to pay attention. His powerpoints are literally all you need to pass. If you're good at memorizing this class is perfect. He doesn't post the powerpoints though and he takes attendance so if you want to do well you need to show up or go to SI, it really helped
The class isn't that hard if you're good at memorization. The lectures are super boring and so is the professor but he highlights everything that will be on the test so you know what to study. He makes you by several small books to read but asks very little questions about them. The professor can be pretentious at times but overall not bad.
I actually had a different professor for 1010 but switched to Dr. Bian because my first prof was that bad. Dr. Bian's class wasn't that hard. I just had trouble retaining the info and finding a way to study that got me a good grade. He gives study guides with topics. He suggests you read the books but they're SO boring and I never read them.
Dr. Bian gives amazing lectures and clearly highlights exactly what will be on the test in them. He gives study guides for the exams that are extremely easy to follow. He also has a pretty dry sense of humor and makes cringy jokes if that's your thing. Make sure you come to class and take good notes, as he doesn't post them online.
If you go to class and write the stuff in yellow, you can make an A. He gives a study guide, makes it super clear what will be on the test, and the test are very fair. If you miss three or less days he adds points to your end grade. TAKE HIM for history.
TAKE HIM FOR HISTORY. All you have to do is come to class and write what is in yellow and you will pass. I study for about an hour the night before a test and make A's on them. He also assigns books to read but I haven't read them and still do fine, just spark note them and you'll be fine for test. He's pretty funny and classes are that bad. Take!
He is the sweetest soul. His notes are very specific and he tells you exactly what to study. He cares about his students and he is so incredibly passionate about what he teaches. Attendance isn't mandatory, but if you have a high attendance percentage, he will bump up your grade if needed.
he's a super guy. Kind of has a goofy uncle vibe, but he makes it work. All his exams are weighted the same, so watch out if you tend to slump at the start, cause there's four exams and that's it. overall? 9/10 I'd eat waffle house with him.
Super sweet man and really great teacher. Gives a study guide with everything you need to know for the exam. Easiest history class at auburn with one of the best teachers. Gives 2 extra credit points if you miss 2 or less classes. Very kind and makes the lectures bearable. Loved him!!!!!!!
I went into this class thinking I was going to hate every minute of it. But Professor Bian is awesome. His theories about the world are totally different than what I got in High School social studies classes, but they make a lot of sense. Definitely recommend for people that want a more holistic view of looking at the world.
Dr. Bian is the best professor. He doesn't post lecture notes, so go to class if you want the notes. He does give a study guide that is very helpful. No textbook use, but there are four required books to read. A very easy class that I recommend taking.
I hate history but enjoyed his class. He highlights every single question that will be on the test. If you just go to class and write down everything you see highlighted on the power points and study that, you will get an A.
Dr. Bian is amazing. I HATE history, but this class was fun. I still talk about stuff I learned in this class over a year later. He's goofy and that's what makes him so funny. Love hearing about China from a Chinese immigrant! This class requires A LOT of fast paced note-taking and reading (it was fine for me, but just a warning)
He is such a sweet guy and really cares for his students. Lecture heavy with lots of fast pace note taking, but really interesting lectures! Everything you need to know is written in yellow on the powerpoints. Makes a lot of dad jokes and is very knowledgeable. If you get the chance, take him!
kind of goofy guy but really nice. He has 4 tests and thats your whole grade. He assigns 1 reading per test but i dont do them and ive yet to make below a 95 on a test (i have taken 3 so far). his tests are his lectures VERBATIM so if you take notes you should be fine. rumor has it if you have less than two absences he will bump you.
Dr. Bian highlights in the powerpoint everything that's on the test so you know what to actually study. 4 tests, last test is the final and is non-cumulative. Super sweet man, makes lots of dad jokes. Puts your tiger card on the board if you get a high score. TAKE THIS CLASS. If you put in effort it's an easy A.
Very lecture heavy, but interesting and highlights what is going to be on tests. Tests are easy if you study. He takes attendance, but is not apart of your final grade. Has four books to read on four tests, but only make up 5 questions of that test, so you don't have to read but understand the basics of it. Also pretty funny guy and passionate.
Professor Morris is the SWEETEST human and we don't deserve him. Attendance doesn't effect your grade but if you go to class and take notes then this class is SO easy. All of the test questions come word for word from the notes.
Dr Bian is very passionate about his class. I didnt really like going in depth into asian history as much as we did but it was interesting nonetheless. Go to class and take notes and its an easy A. Skip class and do the study guide (As I did) and its an Easy B. Also has an amazing sense of humor.
Very nice professor! Tests and quizzes are straightforward. You do have to come to class to get notes, though.
This class was alright. It definitely wasn't my favorite, but it wasn't horrible.
I literally love this professor. His lectures are easy to follow and tests are based on the "golden color" he uses in them. He references The Last Samurai a lot and is genuinely funny. He will call on you randomly so try and at least read a little bit. Best professor ever.
He is a real gem. I recommend him 100%. He is straight forward about what is going to be on the exam.
Dr. Bian is the BEST proffessor of history there is. I took this class online because of COVID and he made the adjustment super easy. The tests came STRAIGHT from the lectures/ power points, so you will miss a lot on the test if you don't write down the GOLD in his lectures. If you have to take a HIST course, take his. 15/10
Dr. Bian is a great professor. Yes the only grades are the tests, but it is worth it because they are open note. If you just listen to the lectures and take notes, You will make an a.
Awesome dude
Bian is the GOAT of History Teachers. Bro is the most inspirational teacher you'll ever meet. Youre only graded by your tests and they are all open note. Easy A
if he's online take him 100%!! open notes for all the tests (4 total) !! literally so easy to pass. Take notes on only the words written in gold and find a study guide already done on quizlet and u make at least an A literally. and all his lectures are posted online so no zoom meetings :)
never actually watched his lectures, just took notes before test day and made 95+ on all the tests. SO EASY
Dr. Bian is incredible. He is so kind and funny even if he's not trying to be. I took it online, and it was so easy. His test answers are straight from the highlighted parts of the notes. Take his class!
Dr. Bian is a good professor. Watching the lectures and writing down the notes highlighted will basically give you an easy A in the class. I would 100% recommend taking this class, especially if you're not good at World History. You don't have a textbook but you are required to read books he assigns you. However, you can get away with not reading.
Super sweet guy. Just disappointed in the lack of point opportunities and outreach to students. I was one test question away from an A and he does not offer any sort of scale or rounding. Truly disappointing and a shame considering this hell we're going through. Could have made more of an effort to teach than just posting a slow lecture
What. A. Guy. !! Might be the easiest class I have ever taken. All his test are open book open note, and in his lectures he highlights the questions he will ask you. If you are looking for an easy A- TAKE HIM! He is also just as sweet as he can be and you can tell how much he really loves what he teaches.
So easy literally just write down everything he tells u to in his lecture and u will get an A
THE NICEST PROF EVER! I am incredibly horrible at history but I passed this class easy.
Dr. Bian's class is very enjoyable and easy! He always sends out reminders for you and gives you a lot of time and freedom. If you pay attention to his lectures and the things that are emphasized, then you will pass with an easy A. Best history class! Take him if you can!
There were only 3 exams and a final that isn't cumulative, but literally everything is open note. Lectures were posted as ponapto recordings, but they are a little dry so I would fast forward through them. Overall, this was an easy A so I would definitely recommend taking this class.
Class was online asynchronous due to covid and was very easy. However, be warned, each of the four exams is 25% of your grade, so no homework. All exams were open notes directly from the powerpoints. Bian was a very sweet man who enjoys the material and makes the class very simple.
I took this class mostly online and he would record the lectures and post them to canvas. The class had 4 tests and that was pretty much what we were graded on. The test questions were straight from the notes so if you pay attention and take notes you will succeed in this class!
Interesting guy, tests are set up so that the answers are word for word from his lecture. Tests were also open note, just take good notes and its an easy A.
Dr. Bian is a real gem and his class was very easy. We had the option to go in person to class but I just watched the lectures online asynchronously. The only grades you have in the class are the exams, and there are just 4 of them. However, they are all open notes. I just wrote down "everything in gold" and I had all the info needed for the tests.
TAKE THIS CLASS!!! he does lectures every class but all the stuff on the tests is highlighted in yellow on his power points, so just write that stuff down and you're GOOD TO GO! it's almost word for word on the tests! HE'S AMAZING!!!
If you can take Dr. Bian's class, do it; you will not regret it! He's kind, knowledgable, and funny. There is no textbook, but I would recommend reading the 4 books he assigns.
Class was just 4 tests, no other grades, but the tests are word-for-word from the lectures. The tests are open note, so if you just watch the lectures online you'll make a 100 in the class. take him
Boring lectures which you can attend in person or watch online when he posts them. Tests are online, open note, but he makes the questions, so make sure you take good notes. If you have good notes, there's no reason you shouldn't get an A.
Lectures were kind of long and boring just because of the way he speaks. All you have to do is take good notes and you'll ace the test. I didn't study for a single test, just took good notes from the lectures. However, your only grades are from the test. Make sure you write down the things highlighted in yellow. Class was not mandatory.
Dr. Bian is a really great guy! My tests were all open note, so as long as you show up to lectures or get notes somehow, the class is an easy A.
Extremely easy! You dont have to go to class if you have friends who take notes. Take pictures of the slides if you do go he goes fast. Yet the test is everything in yellow on the slides. All test are online. Only grace are test. No lockdown browser. You can google everything. He assigns novels to read but you can google the questions from them.
I love Dr. Bian! His class was very manageable despite being so lecture-heavy. If you download his lecture outlines and use that to take notes, you will have no problem with his exams! Your grade is dependent entirely on the exams, however, they're open-note. He requires you to read a book per exam, but I haven't read them and have made As and Bs.
Dr. Bian was the best. Go to the lecture and write down highlighted material and tests are open notes and straight from the lecture. Enjoy!
Take him he's a sweet guy. Your grade is 4 exams (final is not cumulative) that are all open note. Most questions come straight from the powerpoint in class so take notes in class. Never studied for a single exam and still have an A.
Dr. Bian is the BEST history professor ever!!! He is soft spoken, but his class structure and tests are laid out well. Go to class and take notes on the lectures and you will get A's on the exams. There are four exams and they are all online and open note. DEFINITELY take this class with Dr. Bian if you are taking HIST 1010. AMAZING.
Overall Bian is a great guy. His lectures are straightforward forward and all of his tests are open notes. There are only four grades for the class and they are all exams that are taken online. Take his class!!!
He's super nice, funny, and his lectures are engaging. Attendance isn't mandatory, but it's a good idea to show up if you want to do well. The only grades in the class are 4 open note tests and they're all based on the lectures and short books you read outside of class. 10/10 would recommend
All you have to do is go to class and write down the things in yellow. His lectures are kind of boring and hard to sit through- but you'll know you need to pay attention when everyone else starts typing. There are 4 tests all open note and outside of class. In class the things in yellow are word for word what will be on the test. Boring but easy.
Lecture heavy class with the only grades being online open note tests. The tests are word for word from his presentations so even though attendance isn't mandatory you will want to show up and take good notes to do well. Overall a simple class with no homework and really no studying since tests are open note!
4 grades the whole semester (4 exams). All were open note (at home) and searchable on the internet. No point in going to lectures, plus theyre super boring. As a teacher hes not good but his class is the easiest ever.
Take him! The only grades are tests. The tests are online and are open to take for several days. You technically have to go to class to get the notes, but if you know other people in the class to switch off with you don't have to go to every class. High recommend taking the test with other people, since they are open note.
Dr. Bian's class is the easiest history class I have ever taken. His class is made up of 4 exams, no extra credit. However, he does lectures and all you have to do to pass is to take notes. All of the important information is highlighted in yellow. Those are word for word on the tests. Such an easy A, TAKE HIM!
Bian is a funny teacher who is very passionate about what he teaches. His class is extremely lecture heavy, so attendance is basically mandatory, and that is for the fact that the entire grade for his class is based on four exams which are open note and open book. If you take good notes and read the assigned books, it'll be an easy A.
Great professor, great class. Really know his material and explains it very effectively in the lectures. Copy down what is highlighted in yellow on the PowerPoint slides and you will get an easy A.
This is the sweetest man I have ever met. He is very passionate and knowledgable about what he does. All you have to do is take notes in the class, and the tests are easy; they may or may not be open note ;)... I would absolutely take his class again.
This class is a cheat code. You go to his lectures which are pretty entertaining and take notes on the yellow notes! Then the exams are word for word the yellow notes, and online open note, take home! Its amazing this was by far the easiest class Ive ever taken.
Bian isn't the most exciting professor I've ever had by a long shot, but take this class if you need a History credit. The class is completely dependent on you taking good notes, which is very easy because he tells you what you need to copy down for tests on the slideshows. As long as you go to class to copy the notes you should get an A.
Professor Bian is the best professor in the history department. To receive an A in this course, all you have to do is go to class and take notes. Only grades are 4 online tests taken outside of class. History can be a weed out class at Auburn, so take Bian and get an easy A.
having him as a professor was such a blessing. The tests are online and open-note so if you have the notes from class then you will be fine. There are 4 tests that are only 40 questions.
It wasn't the most exciting class, but as long as you take notes, you will be successful in this class. There are only four tests that are online and open note, only 40 questions.
A nice guy and funny, too, sometimes. His class was very easy. There are only about 5 questions on each test based on the book you are supposed to read. Your entire grade is based on 4 exams, but they are all open note and as long as you go to class and write down the things highlighted in yellow you will be perfectly fine.
Take his class if you can! He is very passionate about what he's teaching and genuinely wants everyone to learn. He lectures from a PowerPoint and highlights things in yellow that will be on the test. They are word-for-word on the test and tests are all open-note. He literally gives you the answers so the only way to fail his class is to not go.
was told professor bians test were open-note at home. signed up for this class to come find out they're in person and closed note. he also just always has a attitude which is a terrible way to start my mornings
only grades are 3 tests and the final. all lectures are outlined with what is going to be on the test, but they are not open note. attendance is not mandatory, but he doesn't post the lectures, so you cant copy the notes from online. he also assigns a book to read for each test which are hard to read and very boring.
Sweet and respectable man, but his lectures are not engaging and are hard to follow. He likes to talk a lot about things that don't necessarily matter which gets overwhelming. Took this class thinking tests would be online and open note but they are now in class and closed note. Tests are also the only grades for the whole class.
Was told test were online, but moved to in person this year, only 4 tests with no homework or quizzes to help, gives over a hundred terms to remember for one test, while his lectures are boring and hard to follow. Take different class unless you love to study.
he is a bad teacher and soooo boring. i didnt go to class and took tests from home and did fine. he says he takes 10 points off but doesnt rlly.. lectures are so boring but attendance isnt madnatory. i wouldnt take him tho he makes no sense and i always fall asleep.
Dr Bian was very nice and very knowledgeable. His lectures were to-the-point and simple. The tests were easy as long as you studied. He was very clear on what was going to be on the tests. Test questions were very simple and concise. Would definitely take him again.
He was ok. He was sometimes hard to understand. If you have accommodations, be aware that you record and keep a record of all your conversation. I had a lot of miscommunication with this professor. Also, do not take it if you are a Christan. Christianity is mocked even in what is claimed to be facts. I would not take it again. I hope this helps.
Tests are closed notes-in person now. Lectures were boring but he was clear about which notes are test questions. Take notes and study them word for word, you'll get an A. I got notes from someone who took his class last year and just showed up on test days. Never read a book either, just googled some info about the topics. Always got 90+ on exams.
Hard to understand lectures, both the content and his accent/mask combo. Attendance is not mandatory, and exams are online, but you have to read an entire 300-page book for each exam. No other teacher does that, so avoid if you can.
Very nice professor, friendly. All lecture material is online, and he highlights the important test material in the slides. Tests are all open note, so as long as you watch the lectures/slides and take notes to use you'll have an easy A.
Easiest class ever. Your grade is just 4 exams but he gives you all the answers on his powerpoint slides so just write them down and pull them up when you take the test which is online. Attendance is not mandatory and all of his lectures are prerecorded and posted. 4 assigned books but I never read one and got an A on every test.
Dr. Bian is awesome! He literally tells you pretty much word for word what is going to be on the exams, and you can use your notes on the exams! He also provides study guides and outlines for the lectures making it impossible to fail.
He is so amazing! Take the notes & write down what is in yellow and I think it would be impossible not to get an A. He is so sweet and you can tell he loves his job and cares about his students. If you have opportunity to take him...DO IT!!!
This was an easy class, all notes are online and attendance isn't mandatory. Also, tests are online, you get several days to take it, and they are open notes so its honestly hard to not get an A. I didn't love the books that were assigned, I had a hard time getting through them but you can honestly get an A without reading them.
Sweet old guy who cares about the material. Don't need to go to lectures for an A. All lectures are posted on Canvas, and all the exam material is highlighted. Just review the material and you'll do fine.
Honestly a really nice guy. His lectures can be boring and long-winded sometimes but he gives you everything you need for the tests on the lecture slides (usually the stuff in yellow is the most important). Only 4 grades which came from 4 exams and allowed you to use any notes you wanted but you did have to take the exams on lockdown browser.
This professor made me hate history. Lectures are awful, disorganized and not engaging at all. He is the least didactic professor I have ever had in college. I would not recommend him at all.
He knows an incredible amount about the history he teaches, amazing professor who loves his work. He is very lecture heavy, but his online lectures are great and his study guides highlight everything you need to know. If you do not get an A in this class it is 100 percent your fault.
Professor Bian is super helpful and posts all of his lectures online (so you don't have to go to class). Class attendance isn't mandatory and all of the tests are online. Your grade is composed of 4 tests and they are all directly from his lectures! Highly recommend.
I loved Professor Bian. My class was moved from in-person to online but I feel like the adjustment was seamless. Class was not mandatory and he posts all of his lectures online. If you watch the lectures and take notes you will do great. The test questions are basically pulled directly from the lectures. I highly recommend!!!!!
Professor Bian's lectures are recorded and posted on canvas in case you miss one or just don't feel like going. He gives you around 4 days to complete his exams which are all online and open book open note. He really wants his students to do well in the class and I highly recommend taking him if you get the chance.
10/10 would recommend this professor for a required history class. My class was moved from in-person to virtual, but even before then, attendance wasn't mandatory and all the lectures were posted online. He always makes sure that the information that is on the slides is on the test and doesn't put things like trick questions on any tests.
Professor Bian's HIST1010 class is a breeze. With recorded lectures and open-note exams, it's easy to do well if you stay on top of the material. I also found unstuckstudy AI super helpful for quiz prep.
Leacutes move through topics which are hard to connect. He is really caring, but also exams are online and during the time of class so we tried to explain that we could not make it home in time to take it and he said "figure it out."I do well in most history classes even 5000 plus and struggled a lot in this class.
4 tests comprise your entire grade. These tests are very easy if you attend lectures (or watch them online, they are all uploaded to canvas) and write down what is in yellow on the screen. I have studied a day before every exam, and not gotten below an A on them. Lectures are slow, but Prof. Bian is very caring if you go to office hours struggling.
He is a good professor overall but your grade is only composed of 4 tests including the final. I personally think his tests are hard even when I study my exact notes. He locks your grade so you have no idea how you're doing in the class which sucks. Overall you'll be fine but it wasn't my favorite
The class isn't awful, but if you are a bad test taker, then choose a different class. There are only 4 grades for t
Dr. Bian is such a sweet man! His classes are entirely lectures, and he highlights the test material in gold. He posts all slides and lecture videos on canvas, so it's super easy to catch up if you miss a class! He does have four required readings, but they aren't essential to passing the class. Totally recommend!
Super nice and funny guy. The only thing is that his tests can be a bit tough. He changed his class this year to where it is very strict as far as exams. He uses face cam + microphone for all of his online tests which are on a lot of material. I found that if you study pretty hard and know the material it is definitely possible to get an A.
Dr. Bian was not my favorite. He is very knowledgeable but his class kind of is the bane of my existence. Only 4 exams and all of that info can be found in lecture. It is just really hard to pay attention I wont lie.
Its 4 tests that make your entire grade, no extra credit no recovery points, somewhat hard to listen to because he talks super slow
I would never take him again. His lectures are long and boring and his tests are impossible. There are 4 assignments total that are graded. Just tests. 25% for each test and it is impossible to recover from one bad test score. Don't bother with office hours, he isn't helpful. Save yourself and take someone else.
4 tests make up your whole grade. he posts all his lectures online. he really knows what he is talking about ad can tell he is passionate about it. no trick questions on tests and come straight from the slideshows.
Class is no longer open-note. He's sometimes difficult to understand b/c of mic. There are 4 tests, your only grades, but the material is easy to study for. Everything with a yellow box w/ yellow text on the slides is what's on the test verbaitm. Attendance isn't required and he records his lectures online. Assigned reading can mostly be skimmed.
Havent been to class since the first day, I just watch the lectures online and take the tests at home. If you listen closely he cracks some funny jokes that can be easy to miss. Everything in yellow on the slides is important, so its very clear what you need to know. Tests werent that hard
Study hard for the exams because those are the only grades in his class. If you bomb one its very hard to recover. He also locks your grade so you cant see what it is until the end of the semester. Overall not bad just be prepared for exams.
He only has 4 grades (the 4 exams) and theres no extra credit. His lectures are not enjoyable but you pay attention cause everything is on the test, and theres other questions on a book you read, one new book before each exam. There isn't any room to recover if you mess up on one exam, be careful.
Dr. Bian is so nice. This is probably the easiest class you could take. Class is four noncumulative exams based on the lectures. My class switched to online halfway through became people weren't going. Posts all the lectures online and tests are open note. Take him.
Very passionate about what he teaches but could be difficult to understand sometimes. Attendance was not mandatory and he uploaded online lectures. Tests were online as well.
only 4 tests make up your whole grade, they online tho so get used to that fosho
He is very passionate about what he is teaching in his lectures which helps in engagement. The class isn't too difficult, however, you are given little room to mess up since there are only 4 tests. Once you figure out the format of the tests and how to study for that you're in the clear.
He is REALLY hard to understand and classes are 100% lecture based. Whenever you figure out how to study his online material, you will be fine! tests are online which helps a lot.
Best history teacher I've ever had! Lectures are fairly engaging and very straightforward, and he posts them online. However, the ONLY grades are 4 online tests, and one is the final. Tests use lockdown browser. All questions come from yellow highlighted notes in lectures and 4 books, so it's easy to study. No homework.
Lectures are extremely heavy with completely full PowerPoint slides with information needed to know for test. Hard to understand while speaking. Does not give any extra credit & will not round grades up. I never missed class, studied, used office hours, and could not get above a 70 on his tests. Tests are the only thing in the grade book.
DO NOT TAKE HIM. His class is unnecessarily hard, he is impossible to understand bc he not only has a thick accent but he STILL wears a mask… its 202
Seriously DO NOT take him for HIST 1010. The only grades in the gradebook are tests and he doesn't drop or round any grades. I had to drop the class and it was a horrible experience. I would literally rather put off taking this class then ever have him again. RUN.
The other comments are dramatic. Yes, his accent may be difficult to understand, but his exams are WORD FOR WORD what is highlighted in yellow on his power points, which you can access from canvas. Study them for his exams and the final, which are on lockdown browser and you'll be perfectly fine
