Very easy just write your papers and you will be fine.
easy class, dont have to go, as long as you write the papers... theres ALOT of papers though....
write as many essays as you want to get whatever grade you want..no attendance and dont have to take final
This was the easiest class ever. He has no tests, no attendence policy either. All you do is write essays. You chose your own grade by writing essays. If your not good at essays, write critiques. Its your opinion. Plus its the easiest A!
Great... I never attended a class and got an A. He has no attendance policy, no test. You do essays (700 words) for around 10pts each. TAKE HIM - avoid others!
This is one of my favorite professors in the music building, and just a great person to chat with in the hallway. His lectures are very stimulating and colorful and his teaching methods are challenging if you're willing to work hard.
he is kind but i thnik that it is more difficult for us to get A because his assistant check our paper in detail. So if you good at essays, you should take this course.BUt wecan get some etra points.
Very interesting professor and fascinating lectures. He loves jazz and class involvement, so if you like both, he'll like you. Does not have attendance policy, but does in class critiques which are essentially attendance checks. Those could bring down your grade. Go to class everyday it is worth it.
If you take him for US 1100 READ THIS: strict attendance policy and paper deadlines. Points off for absences and NO late papers. Other than that, extremeley easy. I ended up with a 105 average. Because he seems so laid back, I guess others assumed attendance didnt count, and they got alot of points off. Take him, he's cool. (and easy).
He was an awesome teacher! i enjoyed going to his class cause he is funny and funny to look at and he makes the class really interesting! NO tests and No attnedance!

Super Easy. Come to class for the inclass reviews and occasional extra points and you are set. No tests no memorizing. Just two reviews every two weeks.
Very easy class; you don't really do much. There are no tests, just show up and turn in your critiques for the five deadlines and you are set! Make sure you show up though because he randomly gives attendance bonuses which is cool.
EASY...EASY...EASY!!!!! This class has five essays(which are SO EASY!!), and some in class reviews(EASY). Don't be stupid by not attending class. Just go and enjoy an EASY "A". For anyone wondering which class to take for the fine arts credit, this is the one. Did I mention this class is EASY??
very easy. Nelms is a funny guy and i recommend him. the book is not entirely required if you know someone who has it because you need to cite from it in your critiques. the essays are sooooo easy. the final is a critique which is just an opinion of the art. dont take this class in the morning. may have his boring days.
EASY!! he's a weirdo...but o well...cause he's easy easy!! blow off class big time....good music player though.
I thought he was a terrific professor. He is funny and interesting. I enjoyed going to class. The class is easy. He just expects a 5 essays and to show up. Good stuff.
Such a great guy in general... He's not only great at what he teaches, he is passionate about it too. There are no "real" exams or quizzes in this class, just relatively simple in-class reviews and essay assignments due at various times throughout the semester. Overall, I found this class to be quite enjoyable. Great Professor...
He is great! He loves what he does and is passionate about it. He knows what he is talking about and is interesting. you will want to go to class and you should since it's 25% of your grade. Basically you decide your grade. There is extra credit and minimum of 5 papers. you can turn in more for a perfect score. Highly recommend!
Easy class! Don't get the book - he doesn't use it. You have to write essays about stuff you've seen - easy, but you have to do several papers. Easy A.
Love this guy. Does not give exams but issues essay assignments which are due on given days. He'll also issue in class reviews that will count as points against your overall grade, so attendance is something to look out for. Class is interesting, though, and he's fun to listen to.
EASY!!! AND I DO MEAN EASY!! No tests, no mandatory attendance!! You write five essays or five critiques... Really Easy!! Take him and youll get an A
Nelms is a good teacher. All you do is write 5 4-5 page essays or 10 2-3 page critiques, maintain attendance and attend the final session (write a reflection on a few pieces of music) and you will get an easy A. Nice guy too.
best class ever. NO tests, attendace is mandatory though. Just do essays or critiques, this is an easy A as all work is outside of class. Lots of extra credit opportunity's also
What a fun class. No tests. Nelms has great character and is very intelligent. RECOMMEND!!! :-D
I don't know why everyone says this class is so easy. You have 3-4 page papers due every 2 weeks with at least 3 sources. You have to go to class for 25% of your grade. His syllabus is the most confusing thing I've ever seen and the ENTIRE class is STILL confused. There are way easier profs for this class!!
THERE ARE MUCH EASIER TEACHERS. my room mate only had proff thomas and only had one paper due all semester. I had a paper due every two weeks 3-4 pages with 3 sources. his syllabus is VERY confusing and class is BORING and has NOTHING to do with the essays you write. PICK A DIFFERENT PROFF.
He made it very interesting and you can move at your own pace.
He's arrogant, rude, and extremely condescending. He seriously needs to get over himself and realize that he's not better than his students. If you write the useless papers, you'll get an A, but in the mean time he'll bore you to death with his lectures. Avoid any contact with him if you still want to maintain any sort of respect for him.
Nelms is a great guy and his class is fun. We watch Young Frankenstein and The Matrix. However, unless you know your stuff, do not argue with him! He won't back down for anything! If you don't want to be called out in class, don't even nod in agreement. I did once and he made me tell the class the difference between concert band and marching band.
Critiques are not hard and neither are tests. He is so passionate about his class which makes it more interesting. I regret missing the class so much because he did actually teach interesting things. Critiques are 700 words and he gives a review for each test, literally gives the test questions. Good guy.
Before coming into this class I was expecting nothing but boring lectures. This proved to be the complete opposite. Nelms is a really great guy and I learned a lot from him. The Critiques and Tests were not troublesome at all so dont worry. Nelms is awesome, simple as that. A++++ teacher all around..stand up guy.
Nelms is a pretty cool guy and its very entertaining to watch his reaction to some of the pieces we listen to. Even though it is not mandatory to go to class, you really should. a lot of the questions were based off the review but many of them seemed to be really random, so go to class, the book doesn't do much. critiques are fun.
He is a real great teacher. He really knows his stuff and is quite entertaining to listen to in class.
Do not take if just looking for an easy A. Critiques are easy and he gives lots of out of class extra credit, but they are still a pain to attend. Critiques are easy as long as you pay attention during the presentation. TESTS ARE HARD unless you spend hours reading the useless book. Good funny guy but take the other teacher if possible.
this class IS easy...but it does require you to do work. Attendance is not mandatory, and you will do fine if you miss a few days (I missed alot towards the end of the semester but never made less than a 85 on exams). You have to do critiques but as long as you follow the guidelines its an easy 100. He is funny, talented and knowledgeable.
He only criticizes my work and never has anything positive to say. He has put me through a lot this semester and I cannot wait until his class is over. Take my advice and DON'T TAKE HIS CLASS IF YOU HAVE A CHOICE. His class is easy but he is extremely rude!
Professor Nelms is a really good professor who goes out of his way to give people the tools they need to be successful. If someone is having a hard time in this class, they must be spending their time partying or they've had a lomotomy. The class was fun and he was respectful and professional. Although you should brace yourself for his laugh....
I was a little hesitant about this class because of the previous reviews, but this guy is great :) He has a cute sense of humor and his class is way easy. He plays some cool music, and tries to make the class interested. He gives a ton of extra credit too so it's nearly impossible not to make an A.
I thought the class was pretty boring, but easy. The critiques were easy but the exams you actually had to study for... from the book and his lectures. Attendance isnt mandatory but it helps you on the exams. Overall, Nelms is a pretty cool guy.
Professor Nelms is such a easy professor! There is no way to fail even if you missed the first two exams! But easy to also get an A. He is an interesting professor and is very clear when he speaks! take him!
Nelms provides every opportunity to get an A in the course. The material is easy and he offers a TON of extra credit. Additionally, he will introduce students to some really fantastic music, movies, and theater. Attending class is not mandatory but is really enjoyable.
Take this class! Im taking this only because it is a requirement. Class isnt mandatory but if you go he gives you basically all the answers to the test! so MUCH extra credit that is Easy! Easy A. I would definitely recommend!!!
Really like him a lot. He makes an 8:00 class the best one of the day! :-)
Offers a lot of extra credit, his class is interesting, doesn't take attendance, nice guy, class is an easy A! Take his class!
Great professor! Exams easy, gives lots of extra credit! No reason not to make an A!
Guy is great. Take him! Nuff said
A really really nice teacher who is always willing to help. I suggest that you take a class with him. He has a great sense of humor and he looks like Santa.
Very easy. Funny guy who loves teaching music. If you follow the syllabus and do the critiques there is no way you shouldnt pass the class. Always willing to help. The easiest class i've taken thus far.
Hilarious guy, sings, dances, and even raps at times. Has 3 main reviews to turn in throughout semester and offers extra credit for attending Sacred Harp singings. Tests are simple gives full review the class before.
LOVE THIS GUY. take him. he sings and dances and is so funny. class really isnt that bad and not mandatory. the test are exactly like the review and so easy. he plays songs and the piano almost every class and is just so hilarious. take this class
He is the best teacher ever!!! His class is amazing! He plays the piano and sings to us! This class isn't boring!Tests are super easy, he gives out reviews and answers, you don't really need the book only for quotes for the critiques. Attendance isn't mandatory! Only 3 tests for the semester. I loved him and definitely recommend him
TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! Great guy, kind of dorky but it keeps class interesting. He really cares about Music and especially loves talking about it. The course is very easy and you can add up to 2 letter grades to your final grade with easy extra credit. There are three short homework assignments. If you do them it's an A for the course.
Definitely recommend Professor Nelms! Class isn't mandatory, but he keeps it entertaining and the class is overall easier if you attend. Critiques are easy, and the tests are easy. So much extra credit is offered that there is no reason you should not get an A in this class. Loved it!
Show up and take notes (he tells you what you are being tested over) and you will do well. He is a funny and nice guy.
I would gladly take this class each semester. He is a very inspirational professor and has exposed us all to a variety of new kids of art and music. I really recommend his class.
Super easy class. Nelms is a good professor and super passionate about his interests in music. Sometimes he will get a little to excited and start talking to much but his tests are super easy and he doesn't take attendance. I would take him again. I suggest not taking his 8 am though cause it gets hard to stay awake.
Nelms is kinda like the cool uncle you never see. He has really awesome anecdotes (which keeps the class interesting) and is so super passionate about what he is talking about . I strongly recommend him if you need to take Intro to Fine Arts! Study for his tests and work well on your critiques and you'll be set for his class.
He's such a charming and witty guy. He's so passionate about everything he talks about, and I feel like this class is him just teaching us stuff that he loves rather than just everything in the textbook (which you barely use).
No attendance except for the first few weeks until drop-classes deadline afterwards he doesn't care, but his lectures are essential to his tests. Three critiques & four tests are your only grades. Very very passionate about music that makes u want to know more, makes class interesting at times. Study for his test they aren't hard if you study.
Awesome professor! He is super passionate and genuine. He only takes attendance the first week. He makes the class interesting and fun. He is super down to earth and I wish my other professors were like him this semester. Highly recommend this class even if you are not interested in music, it isn't hard to focus or pay attention even at 8 am!
Take this class and walk out with an A. The class before the test he gives you literally every answer, I didn't go to class for 2 weeks and got an A on my last exam. Nelms is a total bro, take this class.
Awesome guy. Very passionate about music. Super easy, recommend him 100. Would take again in a heart beat. He is hilarious.
Easiest class ever. Attendance not mandatory and not needed because the reviews he gives are literally the test. Lectures include him singing, watching plays, or listening to an opera. There is a project where you have to go see 3 events (music, dance, and art or theater), but it was pretty easy. I recommend him if you want an A and a easy class.
If you need to take intro to music this is the guy to take. this may be the easiest A you have ever gotten in your life the test are not hard you can find reviews online and attendance is not mandatory but you do need to listen to the music from the review sheet to tell the artist apart on the test if you choose not to go to class.
Take him if you aren't a music major and need an art credit. Tests are extremely easy and the grading scale is out of 110 so by the time the final came I only needed 3.5 points to get an A. He's hilarious and often sings in class. You can tell he's very passionate about music and his jazz band. Only suggestion is don't take at 8 am hard tostayawake
He's very easy. most of the course grade is a project that is not difficult. His lectures are very boring but as long as you go to the class right before the test, he goes over the review which is exactly like the test! I highly recommend if u want an easy class.
Very easy class. Attendance isn't essential but he is very passionate about the material covered and it makes for amazing lectures. Show up to the class before the exam and get the answers to the review and you'll be good. One long paper that makes up 45% of your grade that he grades very easily.
Nelms is an easy A. His grading scale goes up to a 110 and an A ranges from a 90-110. The reviews he provides are LITERALLY the tests word for word. He sings for you, plays the piano for you, and shows you clips of TV shows and movies. He is super passionate but attendance is not essential at all. If you want an easy A, take Nelms.
One of the best classes I have taken. He really knows what he is talking about and gives his lectures in an interesting way! 100% recomend taking a course by him!
He is a great professor, his lectures are very interesting but he doesn't care if you show up for them. He gives out a study guide that is literally the test so if you complete the study guide you're golden for the test and theres no need to show up the other days. I got an A and I mainly only came for test days.
TAKE NELMS! He is phenomenal. Even at 8 in the morning, his lectures are so full of life and passion that you can't help but enjoy them. Randomly bursts out singing. Coursework is easy - do the reviews and you're good for exams, other than that there is one project (the only time you need the textbook). Attendance not mandatory but recommended.
Nelms has made this required class practically unfailable. No attendance policy, tests that are word for word his reviews, only one major assignment. While there's no attendance policy most of the material on the test is only covered in class so make sure to attend a few classes per unit. He's also just a great guy. Easy A.
Absolutely terrible. One critique project is worth the same as the first 3 tests COMBINED. Not only that but HALF of your critique grade comes from using 3 quotes in the book (3 sentences-_-). That's right, miss this and go from an A to a C overnight. He basically laughed at my face when I questioned him about the grading scale also.
such a great man! He is full of life! TAKE THIS COURSE PLEASE!
he is a very funny man. My best way to describe him is to picture a hillbilly from Oklahoma that can play good jazz music. The class was well worth getting up at 8am for. I would take his class again.
This is the easiest class I have ever taken. Mr. Nelms gives out a study guide a week before tests, therefore the tests are really easy. There is one project that is assigned at the beginning of class that is graded very easily. I would suggest getting started on it as soon as possible and just cruise the rest of the class.
Class not mandatory, but he def makes sure to vocalize what will be on the test during lectures. SOMETIMES he goes over the material before the test, but don't count on this. If you ask him a question, sometimes he won't help you which is very frustrating. 4 tests and one long critique paper. There are test reviews that are exactly like the test.
His art appreciation class is very easy, IF you do the assignments. He is truly great at making you appreciate art rather than loathe having to do his class as a prerequisite. Don't miss the critique assignments, study for the tests, and you will do great.
Go to class the day before the test and the day of the test and you'll pass. He goes over the review, which is word for word in exact order of the test. He basically gives everyone a 10 point curve on their final grade too. I almost never went to class because his lectures are pretty boring and extensive and I still just just fine on every test.
Nelms is the easiest professor I have taken here at TXST. I have only been to about 8 classes throughout the whole semester and I expect to get an A in the class. I would only show up on test day and still managed to get an A on every test. His reviews are EXACTLY like the test and they are on quizlt which is not always the best source but it helps
Nelms is super excited about teaching this class and plays the piano/sings often during class so he keeps you entertained even though this class is lecture heavy.
Take Nelms if you want an easy A! He's super passionate about music and will randomly play the piano or sing during lecture. Tests are exactly the review (same questions, same order). Went to class like 8 times and got an A without even taking the final due to extra credit. He's the best!!
He is really awesome. He requires attendence the first 5 classes then you don't have to go anymore other than tests days. Tests answers are on quizlet. Study guide exactly like the tests. Only attended 10 classes and I made an "A". He is really nice. And gives great extra credit opportunities seriously recommended.
This teacher is OK. His lectures are long and unorganized, and the tests are the study guides (quizlet helps). I almost failed his class though because of the critique project despite making A's and B's on all the tests. Quote the textbook (on reserve in library) for each event, go to LIVE events, and email him if it's not a TX state event.
Need your art credit? Get signed up for Nelms MU class. One of the best professors that I have ever had. Only 3 tests, critique project (power-point) and final. Will prepare/review the test day before and literally says what to notate during class for test. His reviews are the questions, verbatim. Show up, take his notes, easy A.
This man loves what he teaches. He is funny and tries to interact with us which makes the class fun. Highly recommend taking his class. You won't regret it.
first, he looks like Santa Claus and loves to sing anytime he can. He loves teaching about music and shows it through his teaching style. after the first week, only showed up to testing days and got a easy A. Review is the test. Very nice and an easy grader on the critique project.
Attendance was only mandatory the first 5 classes.. Entire class is lecture based, but he makes the content interesting and easy to understand. There were 5 grades, four tests + 1project. Test reviews were given a week in advance and the answers were usually given in class if there was participation. Would take again and again. Hilarious too!
This professor makes his class as easy as possible. 4 tests and a critique project is all he grades. Tests are exactly like the review and he goes over the review, even for the final! You dont have to go to class but the lectures are usually interesting. Strongly recommend him!
Amazing class and teacher! Take his class if its possible! You wont regret it
This is one of the easiest classes you can possibly take. The test reviews are almost identical to the tests and are found on quizlet. This prof is very passionate about what he teaches and seems to have a great time telling people about it. Take this class.
First of all, he looks like Santa Clause and that alone was enough to get me trudging along to my 8am. Secondly, he's engaging, inspirational, thought-provoking, a beyond talented jazz musician and instructor. 4 tests. Critique. Final. Straightforward, easy material and lenient grading. He made me excited about a MWF 8am. Take him!
He is seriously awesome! Do not take any other class for your fine art credit. Test are super easy, class is only mandatory for two weeks, and the guy is full of joy. Easiest class I have had at Texas State.
He only takes attendance the first week or two of class, after that it doesn't matter if you show up. Lectures were always super interesting and he is really funny. Gives reviews that are exactly like the tests.
Morris Nelms is the best! He's SO caring and kind. Attendance isn't mandatory, but he's the only person I'd genuinely be willing to show up to an 8am for. Take his class!
He is a very tough grader and takes off silly points for mistakes that are not worth the points that he takes off
Nelms is amazing. Attendance is not mandatory but I suggest going! He really cares and wants his students to care. His lectures are usually pretty entertaining. He is so passionate.
YES. YES. YES. SO good take him. I only went to class on test days, studied quizlet the night before, and ended the class with a 97! He uses a flawless point system that is so forgiving. There is three critiques bundled as one due at the end of the semester but, no word or page count and he ONLY counts off for punctuation. Best fine art professor!
class is super easy, if you need Intro to Fine Arts, take Nelms
Don't buy the book! The Book is on reserve at the library. Nelms is such a beautiful soul and he is so passionate about what he teaches. Attendance wasn't mandatory except for the first 5 classes, and after that me and my friend would take turns going then share notes. The hardest part was the project, do not wait last minute!
Nelms is very interesting and passionate about what he teaches. Attendance wasn't mandatory except for the first 5 classes. Critique Project is very straightforward and very easy to complete. Highly recommend to anyone needing to take Intro to Fine Arts!
One of the coolest most laidback professors ever. Impossible to fail unless you dont try.
Hes so great! Attendance is only required the first 5 classes but he makes lectures super interesting! Exams are directly off the study guide which is great and the critiques are straight forward! Highly recommend taking him!!
Amazing lectures! He allows everyone to make an input to the topic. Makes each important figure in each topic a keyword/phrase to remember their importance. With experience, he is involved in music (former band member) and heavily suggests other works and locations of art. There is a major project that is needed to be completed outside of class.
Absolutely the BEST professor! He cares so much about his students. This is the easiest class to take in order to get your fine arts credit. Test reviews are exactly like the test. TAKE nelms he is one of the best professors on campus. Easy A!
He seems like a nice guy but he was not willing to work with me and offer me extra credit, he grades the critique way too harshly & took off several points for things that were irrelevant. he never gave a clear structure for the critique. this class is an easy A BUT if you ever have anything going on in your personal life dont expect him to care.
Really easy class if youre just taking for credit. Exams are simple easy A
TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. You will pass the class if you want to. There is NO ATTENDANCE POLICY, Just show up for the exams and you are fine. All exams can be found online and the final paper is so SIMPLE. It is not difficult to receive an A in this course!!
This class was the easiest class i have taken in college. You don't have to show up to class, and all the tests are almost exactly like the review. If you are looking for an easy A, this is it
Nelms was really cool and chill teacher. Takes attendance first 5 classes then no more after that. The 4 test are word for word the reviews, LITERALLY, so there's no way to fail the test unless you don't try at all. The critique project is a lot but it's easy and he grades easy on it as long as you answer everything he ask for. Easy A
Professor Nelms is super sweet. He cares for every one of his students and encourages them to participate. His tests are exactly like the reviews he hands out. He makes the material easy to understand. Super easy class!
Nelms was a great professor! His tests are just like the reviews and attendance is only taken for extra credit! I would really recommend taking this class and going to class! Youll get extra points that equal up to a test grade and he does not make lecture boring! TAKE HIM.
Professor Nelms tries to make this class as easy as possible. You're only allowed to miss a certain amount of classes until it docks your grade (4 classes), but he adds 10 points to your grade if you have perfect attendance. Didn't even need to take his final to make an A! Also, he makes his lectures fun. Sometimes he would even sing to the class.
He is the best music professor. Seriously. His tests are exactly like the review. He makes his lectures really fun and engaging! He also gives extra credit if you go to class everyday (15 points) so you might not have to take the final! There is only one major project, but if you fill out everything he asks for, its an easy A!
Honestly just take him! His exams literally take 1 hour to study for and for his project he just grades on effort and spelling (Easy A) I didn't have to take the final because he adds 15 points to your grade for perfect attendance. I'll honestly miss his voice and laugh!
Nelms is a legend and very talented musician. Lectures are loud, I often left early but he is entertaining & alive. Attendance sheet passed out early in class. Tests are easy, just study flashcards based on study guide. Project takes time, but is easy. 15 points added to final grade for perfect attendance; didn't have to take final. I recommend!
I am seriously going to miss this class! I think Morris Nelms is the best professor to teach it, too! It is an EASY A. He gave extra credit for attendance, but if you don't show up you can still easily pass. Most of your grade is on the exams (super easy) and one critique project. 10/10
Entertaining and fun loving person. Easy tests. Straight A class.
Hes a super cool guy and genuinely cares about your education. If you have him in the Music Recital Hall he plays the piano all the time and its great. attendance is mandatory but if you get perfect attendance you get extra credit and dont have to take the final. Tests are exactly like the review and the final project is easy.
this class is insanely easy. every test is basically on quizlets to study and you only have 4 tests (including final) and one critique paper. Insanely easy grader and lectures are boring, so you don't even have to pay attention. very interesting character. don't be surprised if he plays piano and sings on the first day...
I loved taking this class, he was always so sweet and kind to the students. Oftentimes he would also sing for us. Graded by 4 tests and a critique, you need to cite the textbook but DO NOT PURCHASE (very expensive, just find the right info to cite online). Overall super easy class with a very kind man.
Mr. Nelms is a good teacher, and he is very well organized. This class was not my favorite simply because I'm not too interested in art history or music history, however he does make it fun by playing piano and singing for the class sometimes. He cares about his students so reach out with questions, and take good notes!!
