Very serious professor. This guy will drill concepts in your head so effectively you'll never forget them, EVER!!! It's because he really does want us all to learn. He's very funny in a indirect way too. =)
This teacher is good, you def. will the concepts. His tests are challenging and he gives a curve, only because his questions are confusing. Be ready to read the book and cover stuff in depth that he does not cover indepth in class.
this guy is a very good professor. one of the best i have seen in baruch
Really knows his stuff, but can't teach it all that well. He spends too much time belaboring certain topics so that you don't cover the whole syllabus (at least in the summer, anyway) and miss out on a lot of very important, practical material.
Excellent Prof. Really knows his stuff and is interested in teaching it too. Won't move on until everyone has an idea of whats going on. Good Grader too.
Very repetitious lectures, you could miss a month and he will still be on the same subject. Exams came from the notes so take good notes. I personally felt this course was a waste of time because lectures were not focused around anything useful.
Great Professor
probably one of the most knowledgeable prof. I have ever had.His problem though,is that he does not understand the concept, we are there to learn a foundation for networks and telecom...not to be bored out of our minds because he stops the class to go over the issues that one student may have. The juicy stuff was not even gotten to, LANs,WANs, etc.
THE WORST prof. I have in my life! A good man, but terrible as an instructor. He knows a lot, but does not stick to the topics which we were supposed to learn. He also repeats himself a lot. It’s true if you miss a month of classes, you miss nothing. He entertains stupid questions and bores the class because of 1 or 2 individuals.
repeats the same****. does not move on. hard exams. well they are ok but def not straight forward. boring and hard. you wont learn at all.
Awesome prof -- lectures very interesting. Pay attention in class and you don't even need to study much -- nice guy, great prof, recommended
unprepared and unfocused- I never knew what we covered and certainly did not knwo what to study
This prof. knows his subject very well, but just goes off the topic alot of times when he lectures. He doesn't have a heart when grading even if you're sick and messed up, he wouldn't give you a break. Too bad he's the only one teaching this subject!!
exams are soly based on lectures and if you miss two classes, you are out. boring and really didn't learn anything practical or useful. Grading scheme was never explained and the exams were supposedly easy (just study lectures - how hard could it be especially if he stayed on the same subject for weeks). Harsh on grading and in short, a big no no..
Do you like history lessons on telecommunications? Then this is the professor for you! You don't really need text book if you pay attention in class. He knows his stuff, but he's condensending to the students. He's kind of like the father you could never please, so don't bother trying to answer his questions because you will never get it right.
Explains clearly but goes extremely slow over the material and repeats himself. For most of the semester we learned about technologies from the dial-up era. He has great teaching abilities but should get to the point faster.
Very knowledgeable on the subject. However, he teaches at a very slow pace so a lot of the syllabus is not covered. Really dumbs down the topics during class so makes it easy to understand concepts, but then hits you with two tricky exams. Don't be lulled into thinking you don't have to study much, like me. Lectures are a cure for insomnia.
Subject Matter Expert. Very good at explaining concepts and using the white board to help illustrate. Huge subject that needs at least another semester to cover the proposed syllabus. Book is a great supplement but most test material is covered if you take good notes on the lectures.
He is honestly the best professor i had. If you want to be a CIS major you musttt take him. Very very knowledgeable, you will learn a lot. He is strict in some ways, but just do your studying. The midterm and final are solely based on his lectures, try not to be absent.
He is very boring and talks too much about the same topic instead of moving along which causes the class to fall behind. He does not use the book in class, but you are expected to read it. His lectures AND the material in the book will be on his two tests even if he did not teach it, so make sure you read the book! There is also a group project
Read the book! Take good notes in class because some random things he mentions will be a question on the exam. He goes off topic alot but tends to talk about some interesting things about IT. He sometimes treats students like they are children. He also takes forever to respond to emails. Pretty good professor overall.
Professor Schwartz is GREAT! Although he's very strict and he explains everything over and over again, you just learn from him! His point to be strict and repetitive is to make you understand and learn. I graduated a year ago and I am thankful that i had him as my professor. I am using his knowledge everyday!
Genius in teaching! I've been in Baruch for my undergrad and now grad school so I have had over 5 yrs of experience in this school and never have I had a prof teach things this clear Just attend his lecture take notes and you will get an A the course is very slow and a lot of the stuff I knew before, not his fault because its just a survey course
avoid this guy!!!!boring and mean!!!he thinks that he is the smartest person in the entire world...he has no respect for students...never available...i think he wrote all the comments here. if u don't want to lower yr gpa do not take him!!!
the worst prof. ever. i don't understand why baruch keeps teachers like him. he speaks his own wired language. attendace is mandatory, no breaks and he never finish earlier. if u want to pass the class u have to know the book very well. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!
If you want your GPA to be ruined, if you want to be bored and confused then take Schwartz and enjoy that F, D, or C on your transfer.
Don't listen to the undergrads. They don't know what they're talking about but I would take his Graduate courses in a heartbeat. I took him for Networks and he was awesome. Now for systems dev, also cool guy. Got a nice grade that I'm happy with, even though my team has no prior knowledge in developing systems.
Great professor. His lectures are crystal clear. Take good notes & review power point slides for test. He emphasizes most info that is going to be on the test. 1 midterm, 1 final. Both are easy, but can be tricky. Go with the 1st instinct! Prof. Schwartz is very knowledgeable & helpful, fair grader. He gives a small curve. Recommend him.
He is two-faced person. He will smile to you and then will grade unexpectedly bad. He does not give defined rules for grading and you never know what to expect. He doesn't care about your opinion and he points out on you when you don't expect. He is grading the participation, like he graded me C-, although everybody in our class was the same.
Keep in mind that this is a graduate class. He makes difficult concepts very easy to understand. His class is much engineering inclined and gives you a solid understanding of facts. I RECOMMEND IF YOU LIKE NETWORK AND COMM. AND WANT TO LEARN. Tricky multiple choice questions though!
Come to class everyday since he takes attendance. Listen carefully in class, only 1 group project and 1 final. Final is basically about the reading and his lecture. Project is 8 pages paper minimum and presentation. Most important thing is do the reading he assigns.
He hardly goes over the materials in the text. He drifts off to other things and topics but this is a course on business software. He spent over half an hour going over 1 question on the midterm. The question from the midterm can cover materials that are assigned for next week that you may not have a chance to read. It's ridiculous.
He goes off tangent all the time during his lectures. Midterms are based on the textbook. Read chapters & take notes otherwise it's hard to cram for the test. He counted highest midterm grade as a 3rd midterm to boost up the grade. Nonetheless, his exams were way too wordy and confusing at times. Didn't really learn anything in class. He's arrogant
His lectures are mostly a bore, yet sometimes he can incorporate interesting facts that have to do with the material. His tests are not hard BUT VERY TRICKY. you have to really study the text book and write down everything he says during his lecture. He is strict and has a bit of an attitude. Dont expect him to curve bc he wont
He constantly went off topic in class and discussed about other interesting stuffs but these stuffs are helpful for students. Tests are not hard but I recommand to buy the practice questions from the internet. It's only $15 and he uses some exact same questions in the exam.
Awful professor, very arrogant. Two exams and some of the questions are based on material that has not yet been covered. His lectures are completely useless and he constantly goes off on tangents. Avoid.
It's good that he breaks down concepts to elementary terms but the explanations he provides are anything but concise. 1 midterm and one final, both are completely multiple choice, but the exams do include questions on things not covered in class so it pays to read the textbook. Good thing is he uploads a free draft of the textbook on blackboard.
Not helpful at all. You don't learn what you're taking the class for. Talks about random topics but not what he is supposed to teach. Very boring class as well. He turns it into a "history of technology world" class. Avoid if you can. If you don't have any other options, take him since a B is achievable in the class.
Whatever Prof. Schwartz teaches is complete broscience. I mean that he creates his own logic for a decent amount of terms in CIS 2200. Don't get me wrong, he is very knowledgeable, but he rambles on useless information, and that has affected me a great deal. If you don't need this course, don't take it! PS: Excel not included
I am in the evening 9pm-1015 section, and I feel like I need to go to happy hour before going to this class because I go there to waste 75min of my life. Study text really hard and you'll pass his tests, but don't expect to learn anything. There is a curve. He treats us like we are idiots when he's the one who creates his own topic and logic.
You stink Morris
this guy is terrible he thinks he is too smart and every one else is a fool he is just dumb does not know how to grade and teach the course he abuses his power if u r not his race don't take him
I think he has no sense of responsibility. Attendance is mandatory. When you ask a question, you will get an answer " I don't know" His lecture was extremely clear and if you want to get a good grade, you must read book many times. Actually, his 2 exams (mid and final) were perfectly based on the book.
He thinks his way is the only way. Project MGT is a hard class, you have to read and use your skill set from prior classes. But he wants you use skills not even taught in Baruch, which he refuses to teach. For a CIS prof he doesn't seem very tech savvy. He refused to give students the PPTs. Use test bank and find ppts online. Avoid unless you cant
He is the worse professor at Baruch college. He cares more about attendance and hunting down people with phones than actually teaching. He is rude and never lets class end even a minute early. Avoid at all costs! I wish I took the advise from ratemyprofessor before taking his class.
Prof Schwartz is a terrible professor. The material is easy and the class requirements are clear. His explanations are confusing and he demands participation but doesn't answer questions and is disrespectful in his responses. I got an A in the course but I would never recommend him for another student.
I took CIS 2200 with him over the summer and must say that I expected him to be much worse. We had a mid-term and a final all based on the reading from the textbook, 50 mc questions. Class was long and very boring, very boring, but I don't think it was Professor Schwartz fault, the material itself is not exciting. Attend Class and read the book.
His passion is hunting students down with cellphone in their hands, is like if he lives for it, he will take it from your hands and give it back at the end of the class. Midterm and finals are ok. Expect a lot of HWs, a Excel and Access project worth 15%, read the textbook and you should get an "A", participation matters, so participate a lot.
Worst professor I've ever taken at Baruch. Too harsh on presentations, attendance, and will target you if you use your cellphone or laptop in class. He might say he's preparing you for the "real world", but it's all bs. Avoid!
Don't miss any class and do the HW and one midterm and final. If you do those you will be fine. Professor never checks his email, so when he tell you to email him, don't expect a response.
Prof. Schwartz expects students to come prepared and participate in class. Group assignments are very helpful and I actually learned a lot of things about computers. He is strict in class but lenient when it comes to grades. Recommended!
This professor's lectures are EXTREMELY boring and repetitive. I would not show up at all if he didn't take attendance. All the learning is done from the textbook, I did not learn A THING from his lectures.
DO NOT TAKE HIM AT ALL. I was forced to take him because i registered so late for classes. if you need to ask a question make sure you ask him in class because otherwise its" getting an advantage against other students". You show up one min before class youre absent. His lectures are boring... him and his class just needs to retire already.
I would say he's Not bad. All his lectures are boring but still useful for the midterm and final.
Honestly, hes a really great professor. His lectures are very informative and gives great, and current examples to help you understand what hes trying to teach you. He cares about his students, and he doesn't read off of his power points. He does require attendance, so come to class. Take him!
The professor doesn't check his email, provides little info in regards to the class, is unnecessarily strict, and refuses to give you a straight non-sarcastic answer. In this class, there ARE stupid questions. Lectures are powerpoint slides. Out of the 8 chapters in my midterm, four was crammed into the last class before the test. Avoid taking.
YOU WILL FAIL IF YOU DON'T STUDY. TAKE VERY GOOD NOTE DURING LECTURES. DO WELL AND EXPLAIN IN DETAILS ON THE PRESENTATION AND PAPERS, IF NOT HE WILL CALL ON YOU IN FRONT OF THE CLASS IF SOMETHING DEOSN'T SEEM RIGHT.
Honestly, his class was not hard at all. He goes off topic MANY times but, at the end of the day, he only puts in exams what he goes over in class. His lectures are a little boring but just pay attention in the lectures and quickly scan the chapters. Easy A. Short and easy multiple choice homework. 1 midterm and 1 final.
I thoroughly enjoyed this class. His profound knowledge in Business matters and Information Technology allows him to use a lot of examples to make difficult information easy to understand. Show up to class and do the homework - you'll be fine. He is very clear about the expectations he has for his students in order to do well! Amazing professor.
Not bad but does not allow technology in a class surprisingly about technology. Informative but hard to keep up. Often lectures in his own world not really paying attention to whether students are keeping up with his pace. Will not share slides with students so you have to take good notes and rely on textbook.
The topic is boring, and so is he. You have to show up and there are absolutely no phones or laptops allowed. Towards the second half of the semester it got a little better but that's when the content started getting a little more interesting. Overall, easy midterm and final if you study the online homework questions.
He's a cut-right-to-the-chase kinda guy. He's probably better than most, he reads from the slides and gives real-world examples. The class drags on for what feels like forever. Just study the terms in the textbook and you should be fine. If you're on your phone he'll call you out.
He is the worst CIS professor in Baruch. He was absent for over 10 days throughout the semester. His lectures are extremely boring. He taught 1 chapter for the final and told us to study 4 chapters for the final on our own. He never gives any review sheet for the exam.
Rude to his students, is more concerned with catching people on their phones than teaching, takes at least 10-15 minutes to get through attendance every class. He teaches slowly so we got through a quarter of the chapters in class that we wee supposed to and had to learn the rest ourselves. He also just misses class without telling his students
His lectures are very dry, I can't help but fall asleep. He is not caring about students at all, if you email him with question, instead of just answering it since he is replying to the email, he just answers in a rude manner.
CIS 4910 HES AWFUL. AVOID unless you're trying to ruin your GPA. Even the COVID19 pandemic didn't bring any sympathy to his heart. Very rude and cold and no answer is right but what he says. In-class presentations, he will violate you if you can't answer right (which no one did). Midterm & Final are both 3-4 essays on Turnitin. TWO 10 page papers.
The grading doesn't make sense, where are the rubrics? where are the specifics for the essay? How do you not know at the beginning of this class that this is a liberal arts class, and not a computer science class? How do you expect us to prepare for a presentation and just TALK without looking when we have more other midterms too to prepare for?
NO CURVE FOR CIS4910. He emphasizes oral communication and participation a lot. But ironically, he LACKS IT THE MOST. He NEVER gave feedback on our work. 2 10 page papers w/ vague guidelines. Assigned a random ass grade, bet he didn't even read them. Midterm/Final 3-5 essays. I never write reviews but I am so appalled that prof like him exist.
Although he is relatively quiet and the class is lecture heavy, all assignments are on MyLab and as long as you review them before tests, you're solid. The SAM projects are tedious but ultimately teach you how to use Excel. The class was boring but I prefer boring and straight forward to entertaining and difficult. Would take again.
I bet I can figure out the cure to corona faster than figuring out his grading system :)
If you come into class after he calls your name for attendance, dont even bother coming in. He doesnt mark you present. Lectures are so boring and useless for the minor capstone. No curve although the class deserved it because of his harsh grading. Monotone and assigns 20-30 page reading chapters for every class. Good luck.
THE WORST PROFESSOR EVER! He expects you to read 30-50 pages long readings, he can randomly ask anyone to answer question, if you don't know the answer be ready to be humiliated infront of the class. For a Capstone class he's a harsh grader & NO CURVE. Never gave any guidelines to follow. 2 papers 10-12 pages long, finalterm in essay format >_<
We should be learning how to code and learn basic HTML, not about the history of the internet. He taught the class as if its an intro class. Useless readings. Nothing was really applicable in IT & social responsibility. What a waste of time.
Very caring person, a lot of reading. Do the work, easy A. Take him.
he's,,,,,, idk. it was an easy class. the homework/quizzes/tests are on mylab and projects are on bb. you can rely on the tube for help for these projects and the workshops for the sam assignments. I heard that the cis classes are making it harder for the next term, sooooo good luck.
This man is the epitome of negligence. The first day of class, he proceeds to leave the class for 15 minutes and return and expects us to read the powerpoints on our own. DO NOT take this class. I dont know if he even grades based off his OWN syllabus because no one has gotten the grade they deserved. Save your time and find another professor.
the class is pretty easy, everything was on mylab and projects were on BB. the sam assignments are a departmental thing, so don't ask him any questions about it bc he'll get annoyed. hes strict and expects people to participate.
Prof. Schwartz is super knowledgable and experienced! If you do your part and act the way you suppose to act (as a college student, not a kindergarten kid), you will do just fine! He doesn't ask much besides basic respect and attention to material covered in lectures so I'm not sure why there are so many bad reviews. Grow up people and do the work!
He's boring, his lectures come straight from the textbooks so you don't really have to show up to class (Mind you this was during COVID). Had HW on every chapter and had additional SAM Excel/Access projects that were annoying. Had 3-4 tests but they were on Pearson.
This class is straightforward and east, but do not take this professor unless you want to teach yourself. He does not care about any of his students and his lectures and extensive and boring. I recommend taking someone else for this class bc it can actually be pretty interesting.
The CIS class is honestly not that hard in general but just so extremely boring with him. He reads everything off of slides and expects you to just sit there for an hour. Honestly, there is no real benefit to being a part of his class. He honestly has a bit of an attitude with students too, getting very easily annoyed at anyone.
Easy class to pass. All homework and tests are on pearson and 2 small projects. Would def take again
His class is really straightforward and does not take much effort, but Schwartz himself is really rude to his own students sometimes and always tries to put the blame on them whenever something goes wrong. It just shows that although he's knowledgable in the subject of CIS, when it comes to showing respect for his students, he just doesnt have that
Such an easy class. MC tests, some pearson hw, 3 projects (which were short papers answering a question like what a specific type of comp does), and SAM. All easy to do. Everything was organized from the start. No surprises. Show up to his lecture and he just chirps. easy class, easy A. Quizlet 4life
Don't expect him to help you or answer any questions, he will say "that is not my responsibility" or "take it up with the department." He is not nice at all, and very much unavailable. He truly does NOT care about you or your grade. Waste of time.
blames department for not knowing what's on quizzes/tests. speaks very rudely to students.
Do yourself a favor and take someone else.
Read every details of the chapters, Quiz at the same day, slides are never helpping. Quizlet4life? nah. The midterm exam was very short and caused most students failed. The irresponsible statements from him that led to the CIS department and Dean's intervention, he was forced to curved the mid-term. In struggle, work super hard and you can pass.
If I could rate this professor a 0, I would. Most HW are through Sams, if you ask him any questions about it he tells you he has no clue you have to contact someone else. He gives pop quizzes all the time, the software doesn't alway work. If you don't open the quiz and start right away he gives you a 0 and there is no way to retake it. THE WORST
This professor has to be one of the hardest professors that I've dealt with so far. He refuses to be understanding of students' situations and claims that it's our fault if we're dealing with things like internet connection issues. When it came to the midterm, students had to beg the head of the CIS in order to get a curve. Not a good experience.
He's not the best but not the worst either. The department controls everything so he can't be lenient if you missed a quiz or smth. Almost no homework. There was a group project. Sometimes he randomly calls on students during lectures. He just reads off slides so you will have to teach yourself. Study the definition important vocab/terms on Wiley!
Just don't do it.
He can't teach for the life of him, he shows youtube videos for excel and vba lessons and reads off slides for textbook content. He doesn't take accountability for anything, will yell for no reason and has a lot of attitude. DON'T TAKE HIM if you have a choice. He's not lenient about anything and will not answer your questions with helpful answers.
As a professor, he is extremely clueless. Attendance is mandatory, but we just go to class to watch videos and hear him scream. It is true, he randomly shouts. It's really uncomfortable and awkward. He does not teach, you have to learn how to do VBA on your own. He always blames the department and switches up the rules. Irresponsible professor.
Teaches through youtube videos and expects you to participate in discussions. He is quick to rage and screams ear piercingly loud at sleeping students. Do not take time if you value your time and eardrums.
Take someone else if you can. Avoid
Worst professor I've ever had
He is the absolute worst, no explanations for any grades he gives, wont answer students questions. He says he doesnt even know anything you ask him about assignments. Gives students major attitude too. PLEASE AVOID.
He was the absolute worst, never responds, always with an attitude.
When you are borderline on another grade, he wont round you up, no matter how close you are.
There's probably not a lot of good CIS2200 profs available, but avoid this guy if you can. If you can't... good luck.
Very moody and overall just will not help his students. Could have helped the class a lot by rounding up since almost everyone needed it but does not care.
He does not care about the concern of his students. If you are taking his online class make sure you have a stable wifi connection during your quizzes because if you are having trouble he will not care and will not grade your missed quizzes. In this class, I had 17 quizzes 7 for Excel and VBA, and 10 from the textbook.
I wouldn't recommend this professor because he's simply indifferent. He doesn't provide a positive learning environment, he gets mad when students do not ask questions but when they do he gives a sarcastic response or says "I don't know". Avoid him if you can because the class isn't difficult, he just makes it that way and says it's the department.
Avoid him. Lectures are long and boring. 2 group projects with unclear instructions and he does not offer any help. 17 quizzes, which he does not give enough time to complete. Midterm worth 25% and final worth 40%. Do yourself a favor and avoid this professor.
If you look hard enough, you can find all the questions to his assignments. Sometimes it can be hard to get through to him, but other than that he is not that bad of a professor.
Doesn't provide the most basic of instructions for anything he does, and most of his class are just youtube videos. What was the point of me taking a class to do something that I could've done at home.
Lots of homework and quizzes. only 15 minutes per quizz. Boring lectures
quizzes are online 15 minutes for 10 questions. Lectures are boring but everything else was ok.
easy A
boring lectures, so sassy, rarely can answer your questions but easy enough to pass if you read the text
Mandatory Attendance twice a week. And i got marked late every day for a few minute lateness. Tests are in person and are very text heavy. Honestly half the material on the tests wasnt even taught. Would recommend any other teacher for cis.
Prof. Schwartz is very knowledgeable in the content with great understanding of MIS. I wish that Excel can be taught differently not just by watching YouTube videos. The class is graded by homework quizzes, chapter quizzes, exams, and an Excel project. The class is pretty much useless except for the Excel portion.
One of the hardest classes ive ever taken. Had to spend countless hours of my own time trying to figure out whats going on. Just to see the tests had different material. Would recommend pretty much any teacher except him. Good luck.
He is an extremely harsh grader and his strict attendance policy is inflexible. Even minor mistakes are penalized heavily, and the workload is overwhelming. His approach creates a stressful environment that feels more punitive than educational.
Had a really tough time in this class. Just barely passed. Would recommend getting out while you can.
Terrible professor, incredibly dry lectures and expects you to ask questions when he doesn't teach anything. He makes attendance mandatory even though it isn't part of the grade and repeats the same thing multiple times.
Awful professor. RMP is correct. He had previously posted the VBA question examples, but now he's deleting them. When the final comes, you won't even know how to practice the VBA questions. Also, he made the quiz unavailable, so you can't even review what was wrong on it.
Lectures are incredibly boring and don't always feel relevant to the tests. A big problem is that he doesn't even know what will be on tests/hw which are made by the department. Review for exams is hard because you can't even access graded hws (despite him telling us he would let us view them). Prof is just soulless and seems to hate teaching.
The lectures are a bit boring, and the professor can be sassy at times. However, the class is manageable if you read the textbook. Unstuck study was a helpful study tool for me.
A nightmare. Was very snappy at us for no reason?!? At THAT age? Did not care about the students or material taught.
Run away. This professor does not care about the students nor the material. He will make the class a living nightmare with his unprofessional attitude. Avoid at all costs.
Very knowledgeable and helpful.
Do not take this guy he a bad attitude if you have a problem during the exam he isnt going to help you and he posts all the slides 2 days before final exam as well as the hw. DO NOT TAKE THIS MAN YOU WILL REGRET IT. Also all his quizzes are online with lockdown broswer.
terrible professor who only reads off slides based off the book. aggressive with some passion for speaking but with no passion for teaching. made us read specific parts of the text book, did not follow the syllabus for the semester due to being out, than comes back and gives a final based on the entire 900 page text book rather than specific parts.
just reads off of powerpoint slides the entire time. lectures are extremely dry and boring. you're better off reading off of the textbook. attendance doesn't account for a grade despite being mandatory. labs are graded randomly but the website used grades them based on completion. do not go through the headaches of taking this professor.
Yes he's stand offish but as long as you show up to class and do the work then you'll be fine. Homework and quizzes are online, midterm and final are in person. Final is 100 question and everything is multiple choice. 1 excel group project.
40%midterm, 40%final, 20%online labs (graded by accuracy NOT completion, don't get stuff wrong) Bit of a stubborn prof, but his lectures did a good job breaking down otherwise dense course material. Do the readings before class and you will learn significantly more. Attendance not mandatory but make sure to show up and participate in class
