GOOD LUCK!!! Class started out ok becuase the material wasn't too bad. After the first test it goes downhill especially the final. He doesn't collect HW and his tests are only worth 40 points so you better make sure you do well on the tests.
He sucks! He just rambles on about the material without caring if we understood it. I asked for help with some of the material and all he said was "Go ask one of your class mates".
He is better than other math instructors.
He is a difficult teacher. His test are also difficult. I recommend that you study all the problems he goes over in class and in the homework. Also get the solutions manuel and do the problems that also.
i thought he was a good teacher. if you had a question he would stop and explain. plus he gives you partial credit for things especially if he knows you knew what you were doing. i got an a. try getting a study partner if you are not good at math.
Professor Ebneshahrashoob is great; I really liked his teaching style. First, he has you work problems in class and then works them to show you how to get the solution, which is incredibly helpful; also, he explains the rationale behind theories/formulas so that they "click" more. He also patiently answers any questions, and gives partial credit.
He is a very dedicated professor. He maximize his time wisely and he covered so much lessons compared to other professors teaching the same class. His level of teaching is high, and so as with his expectations. To pass his class, you have to sweat and burn your midnight candles. If you are lazy type and you dont care, better drop the class.
This subject is extremely difficult, and I often left class having no idea what had just happened. Even though I got Ds on all of the tests, I managed to get a B in the class because he gives a huge computer project. He answers all the questions people ask, but often it would not be clearer at all.
couldnt understand what he wassaying half the time. i left that room many times still wondering what i heard for the past hour...
Professor Ebneshahrashoob is cool! I like his teaching style. He goes through many math problems in class to help you understand the material. If you do the hwk problems, & studying for the review problems he goes through..you'll do fine! I usually get bored in math classes, but not his!! Take him! =)
He's really good with his lecture, give too much example which is what I really want!!!.....if you have taken professor Gau or Wang at CSULB...........Ebneshahrashoob is like king to them......AVOID GAU OR WANG AT ALL COST
Very nice, sweet guy, BUT this isn't the professor for you if you struggle in math! Math is my weakest subject so i need to really be taught by someone. Dr. E teaches straight out of the book w/ a few examples on the board that aren't super helpful. His tests aren't that hard, but if you're trying to teach yourself you may need a prayer!
he is hard to understand and all he does is do problems out of the book on the board... which if you buy a new book.. comes with a cd that is more useful than the teacher. His slides are the highlighted sections out of the book... i went to a test.. didnt attend one class until the next test and got an A on that test..learn to teach yourself!
Dr. E is a very smart guy who you can tell enjoys what he does but is super hard to understand! HIs teaching methods are very fast and scattered so I was better off teaching myself. Grade is based off of three tests and a final. Easy class if you are good at teaching yourself. Dont rely on him for help!
Do not take this class. He does not provide any homework points. The only grades are 3 tests and a final. I disliked this class extremely even though I originally enjoyed statistics coming in. He is intelligent, but you need to become a self directed learner, because you will not learn anything from him. I recommend not taking him.
He is not a good teacher at all! avoid him!
HORRIBLE! stay away. homework is not mandatory. he doesn't teach; just reads from the book. i enjoyed stats before but he made it a nightmare. grade only based on 3 tests and a final. please pick another teacher
Well, he doesn't go into much depth but I personally liked him, he's helpful. He always cracks jokes and makes the whole class laugh. Homework is not mandatory but I recommend you do all of it! It helps a lot. Only grades on four tests, I got great grades on some and totally failed one, so pay attention, take good notes and HOMEWORK
Study guides do not match what will be on the Quizzes. He's a smart man, but his accent makes it hard to understand the material. I took it in a lecture hall, I wished they would have math classes in small room setting. But anyways, it's a self taught. I SUGGEST YOU TAKE ANOTHER PROFESSOR if you want someone who can explain you the material.
staistics is confusing in general and he does not help. he doesnt answer questions very well ... the GA was more than helpful. any question i asked she would help me. overall hes on okay teacher but id rather have someone else. 4 tests make your grade.
Pretty great professor. His lectures are very interesting because he's pretty funny (his accent helps). Other than that the class is taught at an understandable pace and there is no mandatory homework. Make it to the lectures and do well on the mid-terms and you will do well.
This was an ok class, attendance not mandatory. Lectures are boring because he says everything word for word from the book. I relied more on the book than on him. He would always say he would check the homework, but he never did. It just helps for the midterms and the cumulative final.
Horrible. Does not teach, rather just repeats the book. Tests are written horribly. If you can wait to take this class another time do yourself the favor and wait. Really, he does not teach at all!!!
This class is ridiculously hard. He basically reads the book and expects you to know every little detail. I totally regret taking the class. It was pointless. The GA really helped me get through it.
Horrible professor!!! STAY AWAY!!!! VERY VERY VERY FAR AWAY!!!!!!
Hard class, hard to understand and definitely wouldn't recommend.
i recommend not taking this class, if you can take a different math class, i recommend that. I took stats in high school, so this course wasn't too bad because I just taught myself everything. I never went to class only on test days. Unless you aren't good at teaching yourself, i suggest that you don't take this class.
If math is challenging for you then take a Different teacher. You literally have to teach yourself. most of the time people don't show up to class b/c going is pointless anyways. HW is optional, he doesn't check it. no quizzes, just 3 exams and 1 final. tests make your grade. PLAIN and SIMPLE, save yourself the pain and dont take Dr. E.
first test was hard... however it got very easy after that... offers extra credit and his tests are very straight forward..
Dr. E. is not the clearest at explaining material. But with the book, lecture notes and practice exams, you should do fine. Grading is based on 3 midterms and 1 final (not comprehensive). Though he doesn't curve the class, the exams are straight-forward if you do the homework problems (not graded). A lot of students (including myself) got an A :)
The material can be challenging because he goes quickly to cover it all. Between he & his assistant, Tristan, there was always lots of help if you wanted it. He gives you the notes to print for class & practice exams. Tristan gave chapter summaries. Between the summaries & practice exams I got an A in the class. It was very easy.
Don't go to class. Go 1st day of school, exam days, and final exam day. He only grades the exams. His lectures do not make sense. The textbook explains wayyyyy better. I stay home and read the text during this class hour. You can pass if you just study. Dont necessarily need to go to class AND study.
HOrrible class! lectures are boring and pointless. i tried paying attention but just couldnt understand. he expects us to get it with one simple explanation. sure he gives examples but on POWER POINT! which doesnt let u see step by step what he is explaining. test are hard! if u arent good at math take another professor
Strongly recommend. He picks the test from the review questions. All you need to do is just to learn how to solve 10 problems. Tests are not hard. A+++++
As everyone already said, it is near impossible to understand what he is saying due to his accent and his speed talking. It's very hard to understand the lecture because his print out notes (though I should be thankful to have them since they aren't required) don't fit the order of the lession he's teaching. I wouldn't recomend this class.
I got an A in the class, but I'm a good student and took a stats class in high school so I knew a little. He just reads from the book so most people don't even show up but I recommend attending every lecture. He's not the clearest, but it's alright. I got an A- though most people get B's.
This was class was quite easy but attendance is not really mandatory but it will help if you go. Dr. E does not really explain things and his class is quite fast passed. If you are not good in math I do not really reccommend him
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. This guy embodies everything I hate about math teachers: they assume everyone has the same capacity to learn math as they do so they go through every concept at lightspeed; then, when asked to repeat it, they give a self-righteous answer that goes along the lines of, "Even a retarded monkey would get it." UGH. DON'T TAKE HIM.
I absolutely love this professor! He makes statistics easy! the grading is based on 3 midterms and 1 final. Professor E. pretty much curves all of the test, so as long as you do okay you'll end up with an A. Remember to study the practice exams he gives out because its basically what you would see on the test minus a few questions.
Do not take his class! It's hard to understand him with his accent so I literally mised 1/2 of what was said. He says NOTHING that is not in the book. Don't bother asking a question unless you enjoy being made fun of. Attendance is not required even though it says so. However, it was great to have 61% = C :)
Very knowledgeable. Posted his lecture notes vis beachboard. His test is way different from the textbook homework. Even if you solve all the problems in the textbook, there is no way you can anticipate his questions in the exam. I dont think his accent matters- it is better. He covered everything.
Dr. E is not as bad as everyone is saying. As long as you go to class and take notes and pay attention you will do fine. he says to print out the summaries but not printing them helped me focus and comprehend more.
If you are not someone that can learn with just a textbook DONT TAKE THIS CLASS! It's either you get it or you don't but if you don't get the first exam drop the class!!
dr e is the best math teacher ive taken so far. everything was very clear and he was very helpful. all the complaint about him probably have something to do with the fact that retarded monkeys cant really learn math very well
He's a little hard to understand, but he is a good teacher. Things are very clearly laid out. And he curves the tests rather generously.
He means well, and he is a good teacher. He can be a little difficult to understand at times. Honestly there's really no point in going to class; all he does is read what the book says. He struggles to answer questions clearly sometimes. I have like 106% in the class right now and I dont ever have to go He curves the tests very generously. Good guy
Professor didn't care about his students. Test average of 60%, his response was "you don't study hard enough". Rushes through lectures. Slightly difficult to understand at times. I would NOT recommend this professor to anyone. If you have the option take another professor.
Dr. E is a really good teacher. He gives chapter summaries online which are your notes, you just fill in the blank parts. Make sure you print these and bring them to class! There is ALOT of online hw but it REALLY helps you understand the material. Do the hw and go to all review sessions and you will do well on tests. Tests are all curved.
I actually dropped out of this class but during the time I had him, it was pretty great. I mean, stats is pretty hard itself. This class takes a lot of time and effort, online homework takes a looong time and make sure to study before the exam. I know some stuff seems relatively easy but it's different when you take the test...
I failed one of the tests but managed to pass the class with an A. I would suggest practicing problems before tests because it really helps. Lecture, on the other hand.. *no comment*
Dr E races through the class time doing the assigned problems at a pace only the A students can hope to follow. There isn't even an attempt to put the subject in some overall context. His tests are fair but I wouldn't recommend him unless you are really good at learning from the book.
Dr. E is a very gentle guy. He does a lot of problems in class, which is very good to understand the concepts. Tests are do-able. Final is a bit more difficult than others, so be prepared. Understanding the materials and doing homework, you'll be fine. Attending his classes is also highly recommended.
This guy is pretty easy. Tests you on basic concepts, no crazy curve balls. Gives extra credit on exams...what else can you ask for! No theory purely computational. If you don't get this you should reconsider being in technical major...sorry.
he has a very thick accent,so I could barely understand him, the homework takes forever and the tests are pretty hard. I've never dropped a class in my life until dr. E, you learn more from the book than from him.
His bleak accent keeps me from understanding him. He is a nice guy but expects you to know everything he is talking about and his shortcuts don't help either because they are based off things we just learned which just confuses me more. If you take him refer to the textbook more often than his work and office hours he tends to work with you more.
Smart guy with good intentions, but doesn't know how to relay his thoughts and information well to students. I taught myself more by reading the text than he taught me.
very underrated professor!! in order to be successful in this class you must go to every class & always do your hw!! i had a B and once he inputed hw grades i went up to an A!!
Pretty easy class if you think math is easy. A lot of online hw (about 60 questions a week), but it helps you a lot. The lectures are really helpful and makes you understand the subject. Do the practice exams, hw and attend the lectures and you should be fine.
Great professor! He does have an accent, but is still easy to understand.Really helpful and stops the lecture to answer all and any questions.A good amount of online homework but your given a week to do it so there is no problem. 3 exams and a final and he gives 5 extra credit points each test to everyone. Awesome guy!
Hard to understand accent, and homework assignments that take about 30 minutes per section. He knows the subject pretty well, and will answer questions. The exams are almost all math/calculator and little memorization (formulas are given on a cheat sheet), so if you aren't that great at math, this will be a tough class for you.
YOU DO NOT NEED TO ATTEND CLASS. I DID NOT GO TO CLASS AND JUST SHOWED UP FOR EXAMS AND PASSED THE CLASS WITH A B. YOU CAN BARELY UNDERSTAND HIS ACCENT SO YOU ARE BETTER OFF TEACHING YOURSELF. THIS CLASS REQUIRES A LOT OF TIME.
I attended every lecture, sat in the front, and didn't understand squat. Most of the material I had to learn on my own.
need to learn everything through homework and book. cant understand much in class.
Was a very hard class. You learn from the lectures but the lectures are not clear. Grades from online homework, but mostly from the tests. Not recommended .
He lectures right off the book which you can find online. Weekly online homework that's time consuming but helps a lot. He curves all the tests with extra credit available as well as curving the entire grade. I'd recommend taking this if your other classes aren't too difficult because this class will take a lot of time.
TAKE THIS CLASS!!! HW is due every Tues night (use MyStatLab.com). GET A 116% ON ALL 3 TESTS/FINAL if you just DO THE REVIEW! PRINT OUT ALL MATERIAL before class, then write down all practice probs on your print outs during class. Sit in the first 10 rows, and ask your friends/Dr.E/TA if you have questions. Do these things and YOU WILL GET AN A!!!!
Dr. E is an amazing professor. I took his stats class and if you go to every class and do homework you will def pass. He is one of the most knowledgable people on campus and a great professor
Don't listen to the people that are saying bad things about this professor. Do all of the the hw completely, show up to class prepared, and do the review before the tests. VERY EASY A if you have any work ethic or studying skills. I have dyslexia and have a difficult time learning new concepts. I GOT AN A! I would definitely reccomend this class!
easy class with easy and simple concepts to understand, anyone complaining about this class really should drop out of school, the professor is awesome, he has an accent but you can still understand him, he wants to help you learn stats so ask questions! overall easy A, highly recommend this professor
teacher is passionate about the subject. Very hard to understand and his tests always have types of problems that you never practiced. Curves a lot, but the class average between a C and D. AVOID IF POSSIBLE HE DEFINITELY SHOULD RETIRE
His teaching was very unclear and hard to understand. Did all of the homework, never attended class, and still got an A. Has lots of extra credit points on the tests.
you have to spend time in this class. It is not the class you want to slack off on. the online homework helps A LOT and makes a big impact on your grade. He also gives you practice test which really help. His TA was more helpful than him though, and was the one who held review sessions.
The most difficult teacher to understand. He writes really small on the board so sit close if you want to be able to see it. His practice exams don't help at all. I went to every single class and did every homework assignment. Its a waste of time and money if you take this professor.
He is knowledgable on the subject but he is the most robotic teacher I have ever had. He rambles on and writes in small sloppy letters, and since the class is so large you can't always get a front row seat. About half the class leaves early because you get frustrated easily and he does not help. His review tests are NOTHING like the exams.
He is a good professor actually. Do not listen to others. If you go to every class, and do all the homework, you will get A for sure.
This class is very boring. He is straightforward and doesn't go over everything clearly. His aide goes around the room to help clarify to students. Other than that, do the homework and study off the exams. His class is curved, so there's no way you can fail unless you don't put in the work. 3 exams, cumula. final and, homework every week. G'luck
Dr. E is a great professor. Those bad comments are just from losers. Anyone who is willing to learn, will see this class as an easy A. The material is easy if you spend time studying. Dr. E is straight forward and you only have to concentrate during class and study the sample exams. This class is an easy A with Dr. E. the TA helps everyone always.
Depending on the person, Stats may or may not be an easy class. Dr. E usually just reads off of the slides, but if you come to class and listen and do the practice problems...it's an easy subject to understand. Exams are written. Partial credit is given. Attend the study sessions with the TA, and do the sample exams.
If you show up to class and do the work, it is a pretty easy class to understand. His accent is not that bad and he seemed to genuinely care about his students and how they did in the class. :)
Definitely love his class! I am not good at math but I got an A. As long as you try and practice a lot of problems, you are good to go.!
classes are boring, i never went to them and still got an A - he has an accent, writes small, reads off slides. but he curves exams generously. the online homework helped me WAYYY more than he did so do that, it helps your grade a lot. he has practice exams online, the first one is similar, the other two are less similar. TA is helpful.
he's difficult to understand. i personally did not attend class or go to TA. the material is fairly easy to understand if you try to do the online homework. ask somebody in stats if you have questions(i asked my brother). if you understand what functions to use on the calculator you will get an A. if u ditch, don't forget to attend on exam day
Attendance is not mandatory, lectures are boring, homework takes forever. Don't take this class if you are taking any other mathacct. courses. The hw has 3-4 sections per week, with 20-25 questions per section, and 2-4 parts per question, so you are spending more time on the hw than any other class. Take another teacher who won't waste ur time.
He seems to be talented teacher but he can not clariFly his ideas
it is doable if you study and do the exercises. also online homework which can earn you a lot of points if you do it
By Far the WORST teacher I have ever had!! AVOID. He lectures SUPER fast and its hard to keep up with him. His lectures are highly unorganized. never answers student questions. Reading the book doesn't help . I have a 3.9 gpa and math is easy for me and I failed the final. I still got an A because I got 100% and 110% on the exams. I taught myself
The worse teacher ever. He has a thick accent and I can barely make out the words that he is saying. He does not care about about students' learning or grades. He takes all points off when you get the right answer but use the wrong method. When he is teaching on board he messes up all the time too.
I liked him despite his accent. He's clear and if you ask a question, he keeps explaining until you understand. There's A LOT of homework which takes up a lot of time. His grading scale is clear.
Not clear for being a stats professor. He lectures very quickly as if he expects you to already know the material. Lots of homework and the review sessions are very different than the actual exams. It's definitely a self taught class. If you're good at math take him if you need to learn step by step you will struggle with him! Wouldn't recommend.
I recommend people not taking his class. This was by far the hardest class i have ever taken given that the professor should not be teaching. Went to class got an F an the exam, didn't go to class and studied on my own got A's. His class average is close to an F to a D so be careful. Only reason people pass his class is due to curves.
Stats in general is a hard and bland subject. This prof. was hard to understand w/ accent and teaching style (read off ppt) Book is not mandatory, online program is and there is a homework assign. and quiz for each chapter. 3 midterms which are doable if you understand material Make sure to have a study group or teach yourself if skipping lecture
Dr E is a Stats guy, and his lvl of expertise shows in this class. Goes through the material quickly, but helpful in showing how to solve the problems. All of his notes are on BB. 1st midterm material is hell, but it gets much easier after. You need a graphing calculator. HW is not collected. Quite a fair grader. Work hard and you can do well.
You can tell he's good natured, but he is not the best at teaching. This class was tough, for a while I wasn't sure I'd pass, but if you put the work in you'll be fine. There's a lot of homework and it's very time-consuming. 3 exams, 1 cumulative final. There's an SA you can attend which helps a lot. If you work for it, you'll at least get a C.
He is very demanding, but I think he is a good teacher. I was inspired by his work ethic and I felt a great sense of accomplishment to do well in it.
At times he explains material very well and at other times I learned more from reading the textbook. Homework is optional* (not a grade but heavily emphasized) and is very test heavy. He was pretty efficient with time management, and made time for practice problems for each section. Posts old tests online to study for exams, which was very helpful.
Lazy professor that teaches with powerpoints. He skips a lot of steps when doing example problems. His powerpoints are sometimes not helpful because they're mainly proofs so I had to read the textbook to learn. Overall, not a good experience.
Reads off of powerpoint, tests HEAVY! Homework is only 30 points (all online) but his grading is relaxed, 60% C and on ALL exams he gives you 5 free points so if you get 15 points wrong its really 10 points off. Extra credit if you go to the tutoring very little but it helps. Use a TI-84 or higher for this class. THICK ACCENT sit in front.
Did bad on first two exams and still got an A. He is focus on how much improvement you have made through entire term. Homework is not required; but it is really helpful if you know all the problems. The review section for each exam is really helpful
Grade is based off of exam scores. All but the first exam have an extra credit problem. It's pretty easy if you do HW(which is not mandatory) and ask questions. Dedicates the class before the exam reviewing. He posts study guides which are similar to exams, with answer keys. The problems that are not similar are from HW or lecture.
Go to every class, every SA session, and take the hwk serious and you will get an "A". Dont bother trying to understand him he kind of sounds like King Jullian from that Madagascar movie lol. But yea take doctor kim if you can, but if you are good at math this class is a breeze.
3 curved midterms and a noncumulative final (says its cumulative but all of the questions were from chp 10). He uses power points to teach and uses very technical terminology. He spends the lecture before each exam answering hw questions. I taught myself from the book. Not a bad professor, just not right for me.
I took him for Stat 118, and he literally just reads from the ppt. slides. He does not go in depth and provide a lot of details for the exams. Your best bet is to attend the extra optional activity sessions, where you sign in and receive extra credit for each time you attended accumulated at the end of the semester. Online quizzes/hmw. and exams .
Terrible professor. Extremely boring lecturer and reads off of power points. Does not actually teach or clarify material when you ask him a question. Homework along with quiz for every chapter that are very tedious . You are better off not showing up to class and teaching yourself.
Uses a small white board to write out problems - in a large lecture hall. Test questions look almost nothing like homework, quizzes, or chapter review exercises. Only positive is 63% of total possible points C grade for semester (almost certainly because he knows that his teaching results in so little comprehension and retention)
Ppl gotta give Dr. E a break! He's very nice and quite personable. He's also VERY generous in his grading for exams. Yes, lectures arent best, so you'll benefit more from being efficient in self-study/with classmates. So buff up your discipline and kick some stats tail! Overall, he's probably the easiest pass for stats compared to other professors.
he is a terrible professor because it just kind like reading from the powerpoint. the test are not related to quiz and homework and also test are really heavy.
Looks like everyone who hates on Dr. E are students who are forced to take stats. So they're hoping to be babied all the way. Dr. E is actually really forgiving in grading exams. You might not learn much from following along his lectures, but do your hw and it trains you well enough for exams. Other stats profs are more brutal compared to Dr. E. :)
First: small white board for problem solving, relatively heavy accent combined with soft voice. Attendance isn't required but it's important to understand how to solve certain problems using your stat calculator. Hw combined with quizzes can be long so give yourself time. Highly recommend attending the SA course for extra credit and practice.
terrible teacher all around, I got an A but he didn't teach me a thing. It's easier to self study during the time you would go to class and attend his student teacher led SA sessions because those are slightly worth going to for extra credit. We pivoted to online and he doesn't teach, no videos or zoom sessions.... worthless imo
Took Dr. E Spring 2020. Semester was in person then online, once online it was completely different as we didn't have lecture, I mainly think it's because he didn't know how to use technology. I did a lot of self-studying for the exams, homework wasn't required to do. If you email him he does help you. Wasn't a bad experience, just new to everyone.
His way of teaching is reading to you and any handwritten notes are unreadable, you do not learn from him, you teach yourself, grade based on tests only, too much hw but you need to do it to get an idea of what to do on tests but do not need to turn it in, out of the class list of 31, 10 people showed up on zoom.
Lectures are fairly fast paced grades consist solely of exams. If you can do the optional homework that is assigned, you will likely succeed in the class.
