His part of the exam was fair and not very difficult. It's sometimes hard to understand what he's saying in class.

I personally think that he is an awesome professor-- and i am not even good at bio- he does his best to help us understand and he is pretty funny. HE IS A NICE GUY!
Although we have trouble understanding his accent, his notes and videos help a lot! His exams are the best and he's SOOOOO CUTE!!

1st midterm fair w/ short answer questions. The exam, however, had about 4 short answers all referring to the same subject. The rest (50-70 approx) multiple choice. This wasn't fair cause the class wasn't used to his style of Xchoice making the exam very different from what we were used to. New things learned were rarely mentioned in exam.
You'll never understand anything! Unfortunately ure stuck with him no matter what!
The course material is really simple, if you fail in this class it is because you didn't put the minimal amount of effort required to succeed in his class, all the questions on his exams are pulled straight off the slides and he spends enough time meticulously pouring over details, if students asked questions in tutorial they'd do fine.
dont like him,he doesnt answer any questions properly,his notes on the slides are random,he doesnt follow the chapters in the text...better yet, he doesnt use the text @ all...his exams dont match the random info he gives,when we ask whats on the exam,he says "everything".dont take this course if he's teaching, the course itself is interesting thou
This course is all multiple choice and notes. The text isn't used. His notes, however, are sporradic and illogical, following no coherent order. He seems to have a chronic disability when it comes to answering questions. His exams contain absolutely random questions that have never been taught, and upon checking, won't even be found in his notes.
Funny professor. its hard to understand him sometimes because of his accent. He is bad at answering poeple's questions and sometimes try to avoid questions.
It was ridiculous - he does not believe in posting notes - each powerpoint has about 100 words - our hands were killing writing so fast to make sure we did not miss a point - it was hell - so busy writing everything not even paying attention to what he is saying - exam was horrible - it was vaque and ambiquous.
He is a funny &nice. Although he isnt very clear because of his accent. I liked his exams and tests because they were abnormally easy, especially if you study! THE AVERAGE TEST MARKS FOR ALL HIS COURSES IN 2009 WERE 80%!! This was true for both virology & microbiology. Everyone agreed he gives easy tests based on his notes, dosent use the textbook

Notes are completely irrelevant to what is on the tests. Tells you not to buy the textbook but takes many of the questions from there. All his notes are stolen from other sources but feel that they are his notes and he wont put them online. Does not speak clearly. One of the worst professors ever.
When asked what pH is...he responded..bleach is basic..lol hmmmmmmmmm..
Hes a great prof, the tests are easy what ever he teaches comes, a good attendance will asure u a good grade, the professor is very helpfull and has an accent, but if ur attentive that shouldnt be a problem, a course like this no one even without an accent can teach better than him, he teaches with great enthusiasm!
This was such an interesting class I'm so sad it's over. Dr.Anafi is a great professor. His lectures are full of helpful animations and he is always willing to answer students' questions. You must attend class and take good lecture notes if you want and A. I got an A+ in this class. Awesome course:)

Funny person, very friendly. Tends to avoid some questions. Exams were not difficult. By the way, about bleach (see a comment below): "Household bleach is about 6% sodium hypochloride (NaClO) and has a pH around 12 to 12.6 (Highly basic, or alkaline)."
Just my second day in his class and am loving it already!!! He created the love for the course even though am not that MICRO student! LOL
His exams are very easy.. as is the content of the course.. and a textbook for this course isnt required. However he takes forever to get to the point at times, and doesnt answer questions clearly.
He is a stickler for attendance but you don't have to come if you have a basic background in biology since notes are posted on the course moodle by others. Goes through important material in a rush and drags unimportant material for ages. Exams are easy but you must memorize everything. Not helpful and has an accent

Prof Anafi is great! He is extremely helpful if you go to him for help!Using laptop for note taking worked best for me.I also used a recorder because he tested on lecture material only. I enjoy how his teaching can appeals to all learning styles (lecture obviously, videos,diagrams,relevant stories! His exams are fair. Know the lecture material!
AMAZING!Very friendly if you ask him for help and show that you want to do well in the course.Best to take notes with a laptop&recorder since lecture material is tested.He speaks at a reasonable pace and is clear.Accent cute.His wikki bonus is great and helps students collaborate.Appeals to all learning styles videos/ relevant stories/lecture.
A WONDERFUL PROF! At first I couldn't understand his accent but I got used to it. His lecture notes are very interesting and he is very nice. Yes, you have to memorize but it's more like you have to UNDERSTAND the concepts because his exam questions are mostly conceptual. I learned a lot and recommend highly of his class!

ADORABLE PROF! He's always smiling and makes sure everyone understands before moving on to the next topic. Attending class is mandatory, textbook is not really required. His class is very informative.
He is the best, as long as you pay attention to the lectures and study 2 hours each day for the exam. You can succeed in this course. Always attend class because his lectures are designed to arouse curiosity. He has an excellent humour and he is very good with engaging with students, and bonus! His hebrew accent is damn sexy and pay attention!
No ppts. Huge incomprehensible accent. Absolutely no grading criteria for participation/assignments. No references to textbook, nor any indication about which chapter was being covered. Rude. Talks during exams, extremely suspicious. Poorest teach I've had yet. He probably only teaches so he can conduct research. Classes not relevant to exams.

He wouldn't oblige you to go to class but attending them wouldnt do you any harm because he would try to explain everything as clearly as he could. Read the book and answer end of chapter questions and you'll be fine. It requires a lot of work but you will really learn a lot!
Tests are only on material discussed in class. You are required however to THINK - like any other class.
Motti (Mordechay) is a fantastic teacher. He laid out what was expected at the start of the semester, taught what was needed and gave a good layout of what would be tested. He tries to make class interesting with jokes and movies. His accent is a little difficult sometimes, but he's a very nice professor. I highly recommend him.
The thick accent does take a while to get used to. Tests can be quite tough, especially the final exam.
Broad PowerPoints. Very hard to understand. Most students sit through his lecture extremely lost. Barely scratches the surface in his broad lectures. Short answer questions test you on the utmost specific details that often are not even located in the textbook. My advice? Buy and memorize the textbook (will help with MCQ) and watch YouTube videos.
Dr. Anafi is extremely knowledgable in the field of microbiology, but it's a shame he doesn't reflect what he wants us to know prior to tests. I (luckily) read ahead in the course, and was able to understand most of what he taught, which was a better outcome on my tests. Recommend reading the book AND attending class if you want to get a good grade
This professor seems to really be passionate about science and biology in particular. His style of lecturing is not too clear, he does not really give us expectations and there is no exam review. The subject was interesting, but I often found myself learning material on my own to fully understand his lecture notes.
Motti Anafi is by far the best professor I've had at York. He is extremely helpful and intelligent. He is a wonderful and kind person. Exams are very fair - just make sure you go to class and study. I loved going to lecture; Motti is very witty and will explain concepts multiple times if someone doesn't understand. No mandatory text. WORK HARD!
ATTENTION: SCNATS1670 Dr. Anafi is a witty professor He knows what he is talking about Come to class and must study for his class! His test is generally application questions. Dont bother about the book, just borrow a textbook from the library if you need some extra help. Note: Youtube videos help when you study for his class.
Motti provides no guidance and it is very broad with everything he says. You can barely understand his lectures and he doesn't post powerpoints online. You must write notes out and at the same time attempt to understand what he is saying. Find that he tests on mostly what he discusses in class but if you cant understand, you dont get the right info
Tests on the most specific irrelevant details that have nothing to do with the microbiology for nurses course. Have attention to detail, study useless information you might think "wont be on the test" because it will be. Be prepared for short answer if its possible. If you want to pass, know everything. Does't add lectures online, GO TO CLASS
Easily one of the worst professors I have ever had. If you can, stay far away from him! The accent makes it almost impossible at times to understand what he's talking about and he provides very little guidance about anything. The quizzes and exams will ask you questions related to material you've never seen in the lectures. STAY. AWAY.
He doesn't post slides or upload recordings of his lectures. If you take good notes and review your own recordings, it's not difficult to do well in his course. I personally enjoyed not having a textbook to read, especially since microbio is content heavy. Overall, lectures were interesting and learned a lot.
Horrible accent, unhelpful to students. Tests/exams consist of "interpreting" BS that is not covered sufficiently in class. Do not recommend. Should be fired from York Bio department. Your GPA WILL go down with this professor.
Mordechay (Motti Anafi) strictly speaking is not a good professor. He doesn't provide slides AT ALL, has a terrible accent and worst off, tests on concepts that aren't clearly explained in his lectures. Most of his questions requires you to think like he does and since his accent isn't clear, you often get it wrong. AVOID this professor.
I had a good experience with him. His lectures are clear and informational. If you come to class, take notes and do your readings, you'll do well.
Great teacher. Easy to get high marks if you go to class, copy the notes WORD FOR WORD (along with what he says for understanding) and study approximately two days before the test. Slight difficulty understanding him because of his accent but everything all comes together in the end. The notes are enough, don't you DARE touch that textbook.
Do not take this class. If you do, expect a grade two letter grades lower than what you normally get in biology courses. This proff does not know English. His accent is the absolute worst. He does not provide slides. So you sit there for 3 hours listening to words coming out of his mouth and take 9 hrs to replay lecture recording and understand

I take one of his online summer courses and it is the worst decision I have ever made. I cannot understand what he says in his lecture videos most of the time and they are ridiculously boring. I have to set Youtube video speed to 1.5 or 2 in order to at least stay awake during these videos.
He's endearing and incredibly nice but lectures can be dry. Use a computer and copy word for word what he says and what is written. He tests you more on application questions so you really need to "know the concepts". He uses a class wiki which was very helpful. The midterms were fair but a surprisingly difficult final exam
Get ready to sleep in the class, really boring. The only thing you have to do is copy all the things on the powerpoint, and that's it. Btw, he uses the wiki and that's a good thing, you can get an extra mark if you post notes online. However, won't take his class the second time.
I have never submitted a review before on this website, however, i really felt like I had to warn people here. Motti Anafi is the WORST professor you will ever encounter at York. He does not provide his lecture material, gives you weirdly worded questions on the exams and is not by any means open to constructive criticism. Overall, a nightmare.
Hard prof, not willing to give extra help
The content taught in class is just the tip of the iceberg compared to what he asked on tests. He cant be accessed after class because he has no office hours, and isn't open to any constructive criticism. Literally a nightmare. You may think you understand the content until you see the test and his poor choice of words, explanations, his accent...
If you come to class and take notes word for word, you can easily get an A in this course. Just be prepared for a lot of memorization.
You have to come to class and take notes since he doesn't post any of his powerpoints online. His tests are very hard, and a lot of the times does not reflect his notes. He is not open to helping anyone either. I emailed him and asked for some help after class, he said come see me. I went and he ended up saying im too tires today. STAY AWAY!
This is strictly for BIOL2905: if you come to class, LISTEN and write down notes you will do good. Dr. Anafi is knowledgeable and expects you to apply concepts because its a Medical Microbiology course! No textbook was required.
I learned lots of useful stuff from his course. He uses wikis which are a great way to learn. He does have an accent but it's tolerable. Getting grade A is achievable if you go through the materials and understand it. He doesn't test you on stuff he doesn't teach in lectures
Dr. Anafi is hands down the best professor I've had so far!! He's very caring and willing to help when you ask. He is very approachable and easy to talk to. Attending every lecture is a must!!! Take detailed notes because all tests are based on lectures & review all notes after class. Definitely would take another class with him!

He has a very thick accent that is difficult to understand. He does not record his lectures or post powerpoints of his lectures. While he is a very sweet person, some people should not be teaching. Avoid him if possible.

This is coming from someone who has all A+ grades except for this course. He gets angry when asked questions after the class and only talks nicely to the TA who is of no help except taking attendance in nice outfits. No practice questions, will test you on the stuff he didnt teach. Talks about non-important material for too long. No slides posted.
Midterms and exams are almost nothing from what you learned in lecture. He had a lot of biology based questions when he focuses heavily on stats (infection to death ratio, etc). It's about 50/50 of what you learned. You will honestly end up learning new concepts on the midterm
As knowledgeable as he is, Dr. Anafi should not be teaching. Unapproachable and condescending via email. His lectures are dated from 2013-2015 and he does not provide slides. If you are taking his class in person, best of luck to you. I studied every single day for this class and if it wasn't for COVID, I don't think I would have received an A.
Motti is a splendid fellow and an extraordinary scholar. Motti's video lectures were a pleasure to watch and always induced a giggle or two. Motti's lectures are a breath of fresh air.
Refuses to assist students in understanding material. Indirectly claims students are stupid for not being able to understand him. Literally yelled at his students a number of times. Refuses to give a review or exam outline to students for a 50% cumulative exam despite the monsterous load of information learned throughout the course.
He is honestly one of the worst profs Ive ever had. He doesnt acommodate student needs, and his lecture make no sense. Tests and assignments are confusing and often unclear.

Not polite, hard to understand, pre-recorded lectures only - a teach yourself type of course. Most of the questions on the mid-term were not what was to be studied in advance.
Prof Anafi seems like a great guy, he is funny and just seems like an awesome guy. However, being a good guy does not correlate to being a good prof. The lectures are ALL pre-recorded and online, only graded through 4 tests, in which some questions arent even included in the lectures. He does have a sick youtube channel where he plays music.
Nice guy, disorganized and overall pretty awful professor. All of his lectures are online, yet he encourages students to come to class discussions during the scheduled time only to discuss absolutely nothing. To do well in his classes, take very detailed notes (copying and pasting youtube's transcript works well here) and memorize them.

No textbook and lectures are online which are for many years ago All the 2 hours in-person classes were useless and nothing could be learned through his classes. I went just for the attendance grade! Overall avoid taking any classes with him.
where do i even begin? hard accent. does not actually "teach." expects us to just have questions and thats it and will end class early if no one asks questions. TAs are useless and provide no value to students but will make sure you're not cheating on an exam LOL. do not take this class....please.
He doesn't teach during lectures, and he has a very thick accent. Some questions on the exams aren't covered in the course material. You'll probably pass just not with an amazing grade unless you already have a background in this subject
His accent is so heavy I cannot even understand him when I attend his lectures. During his lecture he is not even teaching, he is just going off and repeating his pre-recorded lectures that he makes us watch (some being hours long). Pre-recorded lecture took long to listen to because I had to go back and repeat sections due to his heavy accent.
Hardly understand what he was talking about. No lecture notes and his lectures are pre-recorded from several years ago. He lacks sympathy, and his tests are not based on the lectures or recordings. He will make you fail, cry and ruin your GPA.

Easily the worst professor i've ever had. His teaching is incomprehensible. If you're good at teaching yourself you can pass his classes but don't count on the professor for help. Do yourself a favour and avoid his classes at all cost.

This course is by no means easy and requires a lot of memorization. Professor Anafi genuinely cares about students understanding the material, which I noticed during in person classes. His pre recorded videos were helpful, allowing me to study at my own pace. Exams are high stakes, so missing or getting low marks on one can really hurt your grade.

one of the cray prof, who put his youtube videos for us to watch, he may be taught the same thing to 5 diff classes at diff universities and his tests are heavy af. do not take him at any cost.
DO NOT TAKE this prof he is very very rude to his students and screams at students a lot during the exams like it's the end of the world for silly reasons. He does not know how to teach, he posts recorded videos which are very useless for the midterm and his exams are EXTREMELY hard
I made an account just because of this professor being very bad. I hope this review can help someone. Avoid this professor at all costs. He has horrible tests. He cannot teach his videos make no sense. The stuff he teaches on his videos isn't on the test. I study for an entire week for his test and got 52%. Save your GPA.
Professor is knowledgeable but often goes off-topic and only uses 1 of the 3 lecture hours for Q&A. Relies on pre-recorded lectures, making it hard to keep up. Doesn't address past or future topics. Despite my effort, this course dropped my GPA. Not recommended without a strong bio background.
He only provides long, unhelpful prerecorded videos with no sample questions or clear feedback on mistakes. Claims to teach based on material, but doesn't actually teach. Tests focus on memorization, not understanding. You can get a B+/A, but it's not worth the headache.
