very good prof.... lots of jokes!!
Notes are terrible
Good teaching of difficult topic
Wonderful enthusiasm, unable to speak clearly, incredibly disorganized!!!
approachable and easy going. notorious repeater on tests. over good
Very approachable and friendly. Notes are sometimes disorganized. Tests are fair but make sure you study the lecture notes VERY WELL !
amazing!!!
This prof. and the course sucks. Listen DO NOT TAKE IT. He claims to make 'easy' exams, but they are not really. Needs to be improved a lot.

All I can hear in that class is "RNA blah blah blah VIRUS blah DNA blah blah reverse transcriptase blah blah blah...."
Wow I am amazed by him! He makes me want to become a virologist and he's sooooo hot!
Great prof, he "cares about each one of you." A little hard to hear what he's saying, sometimes.
LOVED the class. Great experience. Cares alot about students...
Approachable, nice prof BUT *high* reading load and this year exam is cumulative *boohoo* Tests are fair but you need to know your material REALLY well. VERY disorganized prof though and has some problems expressing himself really well. overall i like him
can be boring and hard to understand. the course isn't as easy as some people say.
Boring and disorganized. His notes and lack of textbook suck. He has an arrogant way about him. He is funny though. The course has potential but would need a lot of reorganization to be good.
this was hard cuz it was purely memory work. rather than regurgitating his notes, he could have organized it in a more pedagogical manner... easier to generalize somehow. his notes could use index or something.
very disorganized
this is by far the STUPIDEST COURSE i've taken at uoft.....they should get rid of this dumb course for good! the prof is so disorganized and he thinks we are all memorization robots
This is a very disorganized course. AbouHaidar says that he cares about his students but he doesn't even spend time organizing his notes!
Great professor, cares about students. Actually shows interest in the material. Notes easily obtained (much cheaper than textbook anyways. Sometimes have to flip a few pages, but if that's your problem get out of UofT. In the top 3 of professors I have had.
He is the best prof that i've had at UofT so far...he really does care about how u do in the class and is always available for extra help. i would recommend this course to anyone!!!
Very deceiving course, it's interesting but the amount of information you have to learn is beyond undergrad. Overall an average course, with a very odd professor.
I enjoyed this course. It's possible to do well with minimal effort. It's only 2 hours/week and tests are short and multiple choice. On top of that, he automatically adds 5% to all term tests. Also, the material he teaches is useful in the real world like learning about West Nile, SARS, HIV, etc.
Superficial explanations of virology concepts. He enjoys using many anecdotes to keep the class happy, but at the expense of not teaching. Some of his notes are outdated. If you want to learn more about virology, take MGY378 instead.
A lot of people complaining about the course don't realize that virology IS a lot of information - period! He made the subject very interesting, he works with the students at their levels, is available for help anytime, all the time. This course was a great experience. He's not unorganized either. Highly recommended, but be prepared for the volume.
Very good and fair professor and exelent course. I can recomend it for everyone.
He is one of the best professors I have had.and besides being a great prof, I must say he is a great Person too ! he was amazing !

One of the best profs at U of T. He really cares about his students. If you work hard you can easily get over 80 in this course because it is not difficult to understand and Dr. AbouHaidar makes it very interesting making you want to learn more. People with neg feedback are bitter because they tried to bs the exam and it backfired on them.
One of the best professors of U of T and also the great personality. He really do his best to help students. Very kind and good person. If you study hard you always can get you final >80, if not – you will be behind.
Prof. Abouhaidar is an amazing professor. He has wonderful anecodtes and an interesting way of teaching a virology. He actually makes it fun!
Funny professor. Love his in-class pep talks!
the best prof i have ever had...lol he made me laugh with his "sexy promoters" and his little hands in the air dance..."hey learn! don't look at me, write, i'll give you a picture if you want and you can look at me later...learn now!"
One of the best. Very smart. Great examples. Loves to teach the topic. Test are hard but very fair. Great to get you back on track with his motivational speeches.
He's Beyond Fair.
teaches in a very interesting way
entertaining prof
I love this guy!
very entertaining and helpful. he wants everyone to do well.
He is one of the best. Thanks for everything.
Amazing Prof! very inspirational. I am sure he has changed thousands of lives for better. People who think he is unorganized, and unclear, are the ones who don't wanna go to lectures. But if you go to lectures, this is the best course ever. He is a special prof, very different... a prof you will remember for the rest of your life --> the BEST!
excellent prof, very enthusiastic and knowledgeable. tests are hard and very much memorization based.
Most unorganized prof ever!
An unforgettable man. Even though I got tired of learning about transcriptases, I loved coming to class, because he was just so inspirational.
one word: Awesome!
Best Prof ever! Very helpful always at anytime.
BEST PROF IN THE WORLD!!!
He is very good!!!
I LOVE HIM!! He is such an amazing Prof. He makes me wanna cry (in a good way). I wish there were more of him. I feel privileged to be taking his class and to listen to his lectures. Those who get this opportunity are extremely lucky because it is life changing. I love him to tears. Thank you Professor! I hope you know you are wonderful.
Awesome prof, hes hilarious
He made sure that his notes were available in the library for free so we didn't have to buy a textbook.
He was the best!
best prof ever ! he actually did change my life ;; he motivated students a lot to achieve their best :]
best prof ever. Always encourages you, 5% bonus on tests, easiest 4.0 ever
One of the best professors I've ever had. His tests are bit hard, but if you study well, you can do well in his course.
Good professor. His teaching is pretty monotonous, but his personality and commitment to the students make taking Virology worthwhile.
He taught a seminar (Virology). He made students feel embarrassed and awkward during presentations.
Great teacher, enjoyed lecture, made going to a course that I originally had only a mild interest in into one that I constantly looked forward to, sometimes hard to understand, realistic about student and student life in university, very knowledgeable, would recommend
Good as a person. Not good as a instructer
Excellent professor. I took his course in 1997. If you study, you will get a great mark. I suggest making a summary table of all the viruses, as that will be much easier to study from, than from the lecture notes
best professor ever. just that simple.
The professor was one of the best at U of T St. George. A dedicated virologist with extensive knowledge. He also encouraged students to work hard for the future. He is those type of prof who really wants you to succeed in your life!
people confuse his great personality with his ability to teach. "Flies" through 40 slides in less than 2 minutes with minimum description. great person to have around to present as a guest lecturer, not so much if you who is actually able to teach you something
The class was interesting although lots to remember and the prof is awesome!!!
TAKE THIS CLASS, you don't have to go to lecture as long as you have the recordings but honestly would recommend an immunology and biology background!
A very funny guy. Extremely warm and friendly, always ready to do whatever he must to help students succeed. He will write you a reference letter (guaranteed) if you do well in his course. If you study, you will do well. He is also very generous and adjusts marks at the end of midterms and final exam.
Amazing Prof!
He was really amazing, caring, and inspirational.
I had this guy back in 1997. He was pretty funny! All he kept saying was "undestandzz dis, once and for all!" lol
I have graduated from UofT over a year ago, but still remember how amazing this professor is! Very inspirational and truly cares for his students! I still remember many of the things he taught me about virology!
Very good professor, always motivates students. However you definitely need to study to do well in his class.
Funny and enjoys what he does but EXTREMELY disorganized lectures, essentially impossible to follow. Skips many many slides that end up being on exam, can't understand him. The stuff is fascinating but his teaching is sub par at best
Use a recorder if you're trying to get an A. I found it extremely difficult to understand what he was saying during lecture. It wasn't due to his accent, but mainly because he would skip the majority of his slides and ramble a lot. I do not think he is professional during lectures (comments about gays and HIV) or during office hours (very rude).
Horrible, worst professor. He talks a lot about what we don't need to know and rushes through the important parts of the lecture. He is also very unprofessional during lectures and makes comments about HIV and gay men. The lecture material is actually interesting and would be fun to learn if there was a better professor teaching.
Terrible professor. Lectures are extremely disorganized. He skips slides, and jumps back randomly and will go on long unrelated tangents and then gloss over the important stuff when he runs out of time. Wouldve been an interesting course but he cant teach.
Fantastic prof. Yes his slides are messy, but if you pay attention in class and attend tutorials, you will know exactly what is covered on midterms and the exam. He's very knowledgeable, professional and hilarious. I learned a great deal about viruses,- he makes virology uber interesting!
His biggest flaw is poor communication. I found his lectures confusing and difficult to follow. His slides don't present information clearly, he mumbles and goes off into tangents unrelated to course material. Overall, I found studying for his tests really hard because it wasn't clear what we needed to know, and there were no recordings.
Most inspirational professor ever in UofT. His lectures often start with an overview of the "big picture", then he will go through the slides and skip irrelevant details. This way of teaching really helped me understand the concepts. He also writes reference letters for students who do well on his tests, which are all multiple choice questions.
Cared about students understanding.
One of my favourite profs at UofT is Dr. Mounir! He is incredibly caring, humble, knowledgeable, and honest. He pushes students to try their absolute best, and provides tips to do well in his courses but oil life too! Make sure to focus on BIG concepts and then work your way down to detail. If you understand big concepts, YOU WILL BE FINE.
Best professor I've ever had so far, period. Super caring towards his students (even offers these one on one zoom meetings where you can chat with him about ANYTHING - i.e. ask him for advice). I wish more professors were as approachable and open as he is. Definitely loved his class and would 100% take again!!
Prof Abouhaidar will tell you "Big deal!" "Just remember the general concept", but he will never tell you what kind of detailed questions he will test you on during the midterm. He skip slides and contents sometimes, he will talk about something and change to another topic on the half way. Funny old researcher but less of a good professor.
He really, and I mean really want the students to do well in his class. Tests are fair, lecture are often humorous, and you can ask him questions about anything. Big downside is his live lectures and lecture slides are extremely disorganized, absolutely take this course if you handle yourself well in self-studying, skip if not.
Professor Abouhaidar is a very humour professor. You should pay attention to his explanations about the slides and understand the general concept, this will lead you to a good grade. Feel free to ask him questions during the tutorial after the class.
He is so nice and his class is really interesting as long as you really follow and listen. He is my favourite prof.
He was a fun prof, with a clear passion for his research and teaching. He sometimes went on tangents, but was also clear about important concepts, albeit sometimes explaining certain things in a way that made it hard to follow. You must go to class, cause he skips slides and you won't know what's on the tests unless you come to class.
Prof abouhaidar is the funniest prof I've had at u of t, he's retiring this year and he always says he wants to help as many students as he can before the term is up. He wants people to do well and will (literally) slap you on the back when you do well. He goes on tangents but i find it helps me relate to the content more overall. Great guy overall
