I dislike biochemistry, but in a 8 student class, this guy tries to keep everyone awake and somewhat interested. To get a good grade, you have to do all the lab reports somewhat on time. He should shorten the length of his final because this year, it was torturous going through so many questions.
Dr. B. is great! He's one of the few professors at this crappy university that actually does research. We need more people like him that are interested in more than just receiving a pay check every month from LIU.
Very enjoyable class. Biochemistry 2 is significantly much more interesting than Biochem 1. Again, lab reports play a crucial role in staying alive. Stay awake, most of the notes are dictated. He applies real world applications, is very knowledgable and does research. Highly recommended!
very easy, this guy makes chemistry way easier than biology
You people are crazy, this Prof. is such a mean lil man! His notes are directly from the text, so you might as well teach yourself.....and he tests as though he's testing baby chemist!
His notes might be directly from the textbook, but he's a very helpful prof and yes I struggled through the semester and didn't do good on two of the first exams, but I still managed to pull an A-. You need to study for chemistry, unless you are a genius. I like this prof!
EASY! BUT YOU HAVE TO READ THE BOOK IF U DONT U WILL GET A C.
Since his notes are from the book you barely need to go to class, but I guess it helps in some cases. his tests are fair, and if your studied all the better, he does give extra points for some questions and curves. His exams have a few mc questions but organic is not easy no matter who you have.
Dr Bhat is very nice and helpful professor. he'll let you make up exams even if you dont have an excuse. His notes are helpful to study from since everything on the notes is on the exam. do the problems in book, read and study his notes. you'll do fine! his exams are diffcult though.
he is very good. but i took it in the summer. its true in order to get a b or a u have to read the book. his test quettion always deals with the energy of the reaction. if u know that ull get half of the questions right.
you are all crazy. this little man has an accent, his notes notes are straight from the book. and his tests are horrible, every question is followed by why? and if you know the mechanism and do it right 100% if you dont answer the why part you lose like 7 out of 10 points of the problem, also this why part he does not teach during class
very good prof, very good notes, kind of hard tests (the "why?" questions can kill you) fair grader :)
His exams are extremely difficult and very-very-very long. Quizzes are like 10< questions, where some other professors I heard give only 5 questions and not as difficult for the time that he gives for 10<. Whoever going to tell you that he is an easy (A) then that is a lie don’t believe it or maybe that how he was before but not anymore. Just avo

Just avoid taking him if you want to pass orgo. or get a good grade, because even if you are going to study really well for his class it is impossible to achieve the grade that you would like to get, due to his very hard exams.

He takes away a lot of points easily (for instance the entire question is 6pts- if you get the right answer but you did not explain completely why you came up with this answer he’ll take away 5pts out of 6). The average in his class is (D) and (C) with the curve!
He does not know how to teach, don’t have a good knowledge in organic chemistry, makes mistakes so the students have to correct him in class. How in the world he earned his Ph. D?
He's such a hard professor. Even though he's really nice and all, and he cares about the students, his exams are so hard! I cry every night when I study for his exams. He really wants you to KNOW what you're doing. T_T. Plus there's that smart kid in out class that always corrects him and asks questions and gets almost perfect grades!
Hey, if you think how to study he is better than others. once u UNDERSTAND it its mad easy. his questions are easier than textbook. look at upton or other profs tests.. u will definitely say his test is more simple and straight forword.
I'm going for pharmacy and I was determined to get an A. Well that didn't happen, but he's not really hard, that is, if you TRY. I got a B thinking I was going to get a C, but I'm retaking orgo anyways so... but he's not a bad professor. You should take him.
his class is almost useless. this guy gives you exams in a way that if you dont know your stuff by heart then no matter how hard you try , you will always end with a C or a C+ at the most. he just makes you run around for that C. you might think that u r gonna get B or something but evrything works out in a way way that get s you a C.
he's a good professor.....so easy...i just regret not studying harder to get an A...he gives multiple choice orgo exams but his lectures are not rele clear....his accent sometimes get in the way of hearing what he has to say....lolz
Hes actually a pretty decent prof. He basically teaches directly out of the book, and his tests are easier than Watson's, but you still have to read and memorize every single detail in the book, like in all the orgo classes. Labs with him are seriously easy and unlike all the other teachers he doesnt give lab quizes! Too bad he doesnt teach 122 =/
This is a good prof compared to other orgo prof in liu. Test are hard, but he curves and gives extra questions on the test..
Took for 121, and now in 122, all i can say is that he is the best. If ur taking him for 121, no quizzez, just HUGE curves on the test, and i mean huge, he knows what students are going through during pre-pharm, and makes it less hard on us, test are hard, but ORGO is ORGO, test will be hard whereever you, but u wont find any good prof giving curve
easiest organic profeesor through out LIU
So I walked to my mail box, and opened the letter, and I GOT INTO LIU PHARMACY SCHOOL YAAAAYYY lol, thank u so much Mrinai Bhatachargee i love u so much,i mean what is their to say, he told me that i will see organic 1, in pharmacy school, and building a strong foundation now is very important, and this man did the job by teaching me well, A- :)
strongly suggest
great professor...you actually learn in his class..gives a lot of notes which is what his tests are based on..clears up any confusion or question if you ask him...lab is soo easy with him-no lab quizzes =]...exams are challenging but he curves on them ... wish he teaches chem 122 =/
Awesome prof. all you have to do is attend class and pay attention, attendance is not mandatory but his tests and quizzes reflect what he went over in class. Take good notes because professors say important things that they don't write on the board. Most importantly, have a good attitude. If you want to get an A and put in the effort you'll get it
just dreadful dont believe the hype better off with the other orgo profs
Really nice guy, just can't teach and tests are very difficult, there are easier orgo classes to take
he has his good stuff and bad stuff, but i would've rather taken someone i understood well.
I WAS'T THAT HAPPY WITH HIS CLASS. I ASKED HIM FOR HELP DURING OFFICE HOURS BUT HE WAS NOT WILLING TO SEE ME FOR MORE THEN FIVE MINUTES. HE GIVES A DECENT CURVE SO I DID "OK" BUT I COULD HAVE LEARNED A LOT MORE IN A DIFFERENT SECTION.
He is not a good prof his accent gets in the way of the lecture and you end up confused when doing his homeworks. Would not recommend him I got a C and I ate and slept orgo, very tough prof
Prof. Bhatacharjee wasnt a good professor for organic chem 1 for that course go for pasternak or watson. their lectures are much more clear
THE best professor to take for orgo. I took him in the summer so he did go fast but he wasnt hard to understand a people here say. No lab quizzes plus he curves more than any other orgo professor. Very willing to help after class too. Its still a hard class but easiest orgo class in LIU.
You must have the IQ of an inborn fetus to fail this class. If you fail or do poorly just quit pharmacy. Literally the easiest class out of every other professor.
Amazing professor genuinely wants his students to do well. Absolutely the best professor for organic chem in LIU. Strongly recommended. Not an easy A but probably easier than any of the other organic profs.
MR. B is the best professor ever. His grading policy with his extra credit is amazing, really helps you do better in class. Orgo is a hard topic and MR. B makes it easier to pass than other professors. Some lectures are bad but everything is out of the textbook so you can learn it yourself. Recommanded for CHM 121.
Easiest orgo professor!!!!
jus pay attention.
Dr B is the best I can do with his name. He doesn't care if you attend as long as you can pass. He teaches straight from the book so if you take notes you won't need it. Great chem professor for someone who hates chem. Not an easy A. No Curve.
He's so great that I wish I could take him over and over for chem but stupid LIU doesn't announce who is teaching classes til right before they start. This guy is very easy going. He doesn't curve but you are pretty much guaranteed 30% of your final grade just for showing up to lab. They always end very early.
Worst professor at LIU dont take him for orga waste of money and your time . His questions are so hard he will just kill your gpa !!!
A very knowledgeable professor who tests straight from the notes. So you HAVE to take really good, thorough notes. If you do, and can memorize all of the notes he gives, you will do fine. Labs were OK, they were tough sometimes, but at least he always ended early. I enjoyed his class and wish I could take him again.
I enjoyed his class. The lectures could get boring but I learned a lot in class. I felt that he taught so well that I remembered most of the material for the final. Study from his notes but also use the textbook. It helps a lot. Pay attention, TAKE GOOD NOTES, and participate. Gives 10 pts extra on every test
The best chemistry teacher in LIU. I'm was not all that interested in chemistry before taking his class but I actually enjoyed his lectures and was able to understand the material. I definitely recommend him to those looking for a good Chem. professor.
At first didn't seem like he would be a good professor but he proved our class wrong. Lectures are easy and is always willing to help you out if you have a problem. Just make sure you study for his tests they can be pretty challenging. Drops the lowest test. Does review before each exam (there are 5). Take good notes, study and you will be fine.
He is ok. The only problem was his tests. They are challenging. Even though I studied I still had trouble. Other than that he is ok. He is willing to help you though. I just wish that he would do reviews.
he's really good and really nice guy take him !
Professor Bhattacharjee is a great professor! He teaches the subject well and will answer your questions. He cares a lot about his students and is very generous. Some minor cons are that sometimes his handwriting on the board isn't always clear and the explanation portions of his tests/quizzes are difficult. other than that, he's awesome! TAKE HIM!
He tries his best to help you as much as possible, this even means curving your final grade if necessary. His tests may seem like its different from his lectures but it is same material, you will realize it when he goes over it. Ask him questions. Compared to the other orgo prof he is the easiest since he cuurves
He's not very clear and once you get lost on a concept, it's really hard to continue. Make sure to visit his office hours after a lecture if you misunderstood anything. The first few quizzes will seem hard but are actually easy. Make sure to well because it will get harder towards the end. He curves a lot but you need to do well from the start.
prof. bhatta is really nice, but don't think u can get away with stuff if you think u can cheat in this class ur only fooling urself. he makes like 3 or 4 different versions of every exam and changes up little details on papers such as Cl to Br, then he will photocopy ur test and bust u. 5 quizzes 3 tests, drops either 2 quizzes or 1 test, 100 pts.
Nice guy, very organized. Ask for clarification if needed, otherwise he'll move on to the next topic.
he is the best orgo professor out there, i hoped that he is teaching orgo 2
Really nice and intelligent professor. He keeps to himself a lot so be able to approach him if you need to or else you'll be on your own. He is super clear and takes more time to teach than other professors because he simply wants everyone to understand. His quizzes and tests are easy as long as you study. Only problem he doesn't give enough time.
His quizes seem short and exam. But prepare your self. I recommend find some other professor.
Honestly the most intellegent and helpful professor i have ever taken. He wants everybody to understands and repeats concepts to make sure nobody missed anything. He is very welcoming and encourages students to visit him during his office hours. He'll make you love orgo!!! 100% take him this is the best orgo professor you'll find
Professor B is the best. Alot of people say they are afraid of him "exams are hard", but honestly he gives you the answer in class. His lectures are exactly what is on the exam and quizzes. Just take good notes. He makes this subject so so easy its impossible to fail his class. His class is so easy because is so good at relaying the information.
The worst professor ever! I studied hours after hours for his tests but I still ended up in the 60s. He makes the tests hard for no reason & he isn't even helpful during his office hours. He would always criticize whatever questions I had! Do not take him!!!
he doesn't care about his student. doesn't help during his office hours.
Organic is tough, no one can change that. However prof. Bhattachargee knows how to teach!! Hes patient and goes over whatever you dont understand. Hes always in his office and hes a really nice guy! He curves and drops the lowest grade, I would DEFINITELY retake him!
ORGO is a tough subject. You HAVE to put in time to study. Bhattacharjee can teach well, but he is heartless. So, don't expect anything from him. His "CURVE" is dropping your lowest test grade and gives you, if youre lucky, 2-5 points extra credit on each quiz. The final will make or BREAK your grade so start studying now.
Cant explain bad this class is. My mistake for not switching to another Professor. Think hard about this class before taking. One recommendation is not enough.
He doesn't explain well. The short response questions he wants the answer to be exactly word for word what he says in class.
Horrible Professor
Rude, tough, horrible Professor. Someone please tell him he doesnt need to act like a dictator. Walks in, wouldnt even look you in the eyes. Gives the exam, collects it, and moves right into the lecture. Oh yea, his exams are terrifying. I studied hours but no luck. He wants short answers word by word, barely any partial credit.
hardest class you will ever take but hes a better professor than most orgo professors at liu. you have to pretend like this is your only class because it will be all you focus on
Dr. Bhattacharjee is a great professor. There is no way to pass without studying, but he gives you more than enough tools to succeed. Though I struggled with the class, I will never forget him telling me that I used to be a better student, because it was exactly the push I needed to work even harder. COVID is tough, but his lectures are worth it.
Great professor. This man taught me a good chunk of what's covered in the MCAT. However, this was the hardest class I ever had. Spent 10 hours out of class studying only for this class. His lectures are great. He gave us his own written notes but if you have him in person then he won't do that. He grades slightly harshly. You can't bs your answers.
Go to class, he often points out questions that will be on the test. His exam questions are tricky but its not bad, if you fully understand the concept. His exams are detailed but its very do-able. Beware of the midterm and final because it will make or break your grade. Overall, he is a nice professor.
You have to study a lot for his exams. He gives extra credit so it does help your grade. You have to write out the full reasoning on exams, the diagrams and graphs. M/C is somewhat hard at times. Pay attention in class because he tells you tips. Organic chemistry in itself is hard already, but he makes it manageable.
Professor Bhattacharjee posts his notes on blackboard and it makes studying a lot easier. All of his exams are based on these notes so make sure you fully understand the concept. He is a strict grader, but everything you need to memorize is given to you.
This professor was overall not bad, but he is a tough grader on exams. He posts all his notes that you basically have to memorize because all of the questions are based on these notes IN DETAIL.
Orgo & biochem are difficult classes in general, so that's not on him. He gave us his notes to print out which really helped on exams, but I don't know if he will do that when classes are fully in-person again. Either way, you should only take him if your willing to put in the work, and if you are you will do well, as he gives a lot of extra credit
this professor is so bland, he has the handwriting of a 5 year old and i can barely hear him in the front row. no resources watsoever , goes through everthing fast and grades too harshly, i had to drop out
Took this professor during the summer for organic chemistry. He teaches directly from the textbook and if you honestly listen to his lectures, you'll be fine. You have to put in the work and he will try to make sure you understand everything he teaches.
Quiet man, doesn't explain or talk much for lab. Grades pretty fairly and will write directions on the board for lab, expects you to do the rest. During lab, he lets you do it and kinda just sits at the front of the room for any questions. Chill lab instructor. Haven't had him for lecture yet.
make sure you always read the textbook and you'll do well
Do not take this man for Biochem save yourself
Very reasonable professor. Makes you write a biography for the short response. Is never happy. May curve. However, very clear in his teaching.
Very traditional teaching style. Prepare to memorize long pages as well as go over recordings of his lectures if you want to do well. He does his best explaining but good luck staying focused with his monotone voice and passive teaching methods. His tests are best described as "fair" and are usually 50/50 mcq and short response.
I took this professor during the summer and he was ok. Comes to class kinda mad and is heartless towards his students. He does not provide resources like practice questions or exams and the lectures are the pure source of learning. Quiz and test questions usually don't reflect what is taught in class because he copies those online.
He might not seem friendly, but he was very fair, the grading scale was VERY helpful and he added extra qs to help boost scores. He explained things well and took time to answer many questions. There were a lot of quizzes and exams, but they were all multiple choice and I had very few issues. He answers his emails religiously and was a bit funny
His lectures are very surface level which sucks because his quizzes/exams problems are harder than what he teaches. Offers extra credit and the grading scale is curved so that an 80 is an A, 70 is B, etc. You have to study every little thing in his lecture no matter how insignificant beacuse it will show up on the quizzes.
Extremely knowledgeable professor, can simplify certain topics well so you can grasp them. Only reason I gave him a 4 instead of a 5 is no uploaded the notes, and rarely tests on a subject you never covered. Skipping lectures/not paying attention means the end for u since he expects you to know minor details that are a sentence in the textbook.
Follows the textbook extremely well and explains what's in there pretty well. However, he doesn't post notes or give practice problems. The practice problems in the book don't have answers either which makes studying for tests very difficult unless you take good notes
