There is no way you can fully understand what the professor is saying. Because of that the understanding of the material is twice as hard. He also have a lot more comments at John Hopkins University.
Not only does he not speak a lick of english but he also moves by notes way too fast in order to copy anything down. He basically encourages people not to attend his class. Hes possibly the worst teacher I have ever had
Since his accent makes it hard to understand at times, he really makes a point to spell out every concept, which is nice. Easy homework load, he covers everything in great detail and posts all materials online, and he seems like he really wants his students to succeed.
He is a horrible teacher. I would never tell anyone to take this class. He flies through the notes and you can't understand anything. Make sure you do the practice exams because half of it is on the test. He is not helpful at all and no one attends lecture because everyone knows it is a waste of time. Do not take this class.
I took the class to satisfy core requirement. I don't consider myself a math person, however, this professor is one of the most helpful ppl I met. He extended office hours for each exam. For the final, he had at least 8 office hours. The class is not easy, but he is extremely helpful. Ask for help.
There was zero point in going to class as his accent was incomprehensible. If you have to fulfill a math requirement, don't take this class. His tests are hard, and he does a poor job of explaining the material. You'd be putting yourself through misery sitting through 80 minutes of this class 2x a week.
Just awful. He doesn't make sense, he's boring, and the exams are difficult. He needs to put curves on his exams because he does a terrible job explaining it. Use the practice exams, they will help you...slightly. It was a terrible experience, and I recommend taking it with anyone else.
Alan was the worst teacher I have ever had. He was hard to understand and assumed that all of his students knew the information before taking the class. Although his tests were basically impossible he curved grades at the end of the year. I went from a B- to an A!!!
Not a very interesting teacher. Class is really boring; basically just him reading off a powerpoint, and doing occasional sample questions. Going to recitation and listening to my T.A. helped me a lot, and made the material a lot easier. Alan is a nice guy though. Helped me a lot toward the end of the year with issues getting my credits.
Can not understand him, he uses for a math class and gets easily frustrated by anyone that talks. Attendance isn't required and people really use that luxury. Not very good at explaining either. Try and take this class with another professor!
he is awesome. i like him. his students to succeed. best teacher ever.
He knows what he is doing. and he is a really good professor. He is really helpful. His accent actually makes the student listen more carefully
Easy tests but awful teacher. have to teach yourself
Not nearly as bad as everyone says. His turkish accent is very thick but eventually, you will get used to it. His tests are easy and he does not take attendance during section. Need to go to recitations to take weekly quizzes. Alan is a nice guy, decent professor. Not great, not awful. The quizzes are easy as are the tests.
He was a terrible professor. His explanations were mediocre at best. The TAs were really helpful in this class but there is only so much they can do to supplement the lecture. Try to take this course with a different professor because Professor Alan is awful.
This class overall is a mess. The professor, Alan, is very hard to understand. Attendance is not mandatory but if you don't go to class you can get easily lost. Go to your TA and their office hours because there really helpful.
He has many grammatical mistakes but you can get his point. He writes everything that he says. The TA (Zayd Ghoggali) was very helpful. Easy A class if you solve all the web-assign questions and study them for the midterm and final.
this teacher is nice, and he will give students many chances to get the extra credits. However, there are some mistakes in his lecture or notes. This is a helpful class.
Professor Alan is a nice guy and very funny during the lecture sometimes. I hate all of the materials he taught in class they are very complicated and boring. But I highly recommend going to lectures and give full attention. Teaching method is clear he always goes step by step. Go to office hours at least 2 weeks before test can be very helpful
Very easy to get distracted in the lecture (due to size), but he is always willing to help during office hrs and if you receive accommodations from ODS, he is more then willing to give you the accommodations
The lectures are frustrating to sit though as he writes every word he speaks and draws out (could - be) short topics. Extra credit on homework can definitely help your grade, and use the TA's to your advantage, they are most helpful.
He doesn't know how to teach at all, the course is easy but its annoying to listen to him. He thinks that theta is sigma and his accent is heavier than Borat himself. Easy class overall. "Any Question?"
great guy
Professor Alan is a very cool guy. Most people get bad grades because they don't come to lectures or don't do homeworkexam prep online. If you work hard for it and be responsible, this class is definitely an easy A. Lectures can be very long but I highly recommend going to this class.
This guy is SO nice. Lots of extra credit. Extends office hours before exam. Exams are just like hw. Curves grades. The class is sometimes too long and boring, but he tries really hard to please his students. Stop whining about his accent. If anything is bad, it's the clueless TAs and the students who don't take the class seriously.
Professor Alan is a really great teacher and he genuinely cares about his students doing well. If you go to lecture, he can be extremely helpful for the exams. He tells you exactly what problems will be covered. The quizzes in section are very easy and you can get extra credit on all the homework. He also has a pretty good sense of humor.
Professor Alan is a great professor and you're overall grade will be solid if you have a pulse. Says some hilarious stuff. Any question?
His accent is a little confusing, and he can be pretty boring at times, but otherwise he's hilarious.
he used to give us 50% extra credit for every homework. he is the best math professor.
He's really funny.
he's a nice guy. show up and pay attention and you will be fine
He is a good professor. Accent can be confusing but you will get use to it. Don't skip class. Do all the homework and practice problems. It's not the hard to get an A if you put the effort in.
Really nice professor and person in general. Not the easiest to understand and lectures can be a little long, but if you have questions, he is more than willing to help. Offers so much extra credit, which really helps your grade. Got an 89, 85, and 85 on the exams but still ended up with an A. If you put the work in, you'll be happy with the class
Easy class. So much extra credit that you do not even need to do very well on the exams to get an A. He is VERY specific with the way he wants problems solved, that if you do one thing not the way he wants it, he marks it wrong. Go to lecture and pay attention and you should get a good grade.
I couldn't understand him. They he taught was way too fast and I could not keep up at all. I did awful in this class and I even tried getting a tutor.
This can be a tough class. Professor Alan can be extremely difficult to understand. The material itself is not crazy hard, but trying to teach it to yourself can be. I know it is required of Whitman students to take this class, my recommendation is to study from the beginning and stay updated on the material to be ready for tests and the final.
He is the nicest professor that you will ever meet and he knows what he is talking about but it is difficult to grasp what he is saying. Put effort into the homework and watch some youtube videos if you are having issues. Also, if you go to office hours he always tries his best to make sure you understand whatever questions you may have.
He is a very nice professor and honestly his accent is not bad. He writes out every single word he says anyways. He exams are very easy if you do the review sheet, go to this review sessions, and make notes in your book. Put in a little bit of effort before exam time and you will be perfectly fine!
Extra credit is not offered anymore and you basically have to teach yourself this course. Avoid this dude
I dont think he was very good at teaching the cirriculum, but this class was so easy to pass. If you go to the review sessions he basically tells you what is going to be on the tests, and all tests are open note/book. As long as you have some sort of idea of what you are doing in the class, expect to get an A.
Students make the mistake of thinking that they can skip every single class because the tests are open book and think they can learn everything in the review session. Don't try to do this. Go to class, go to the review sessions and get a tutor the week before the test if you need to. He makes it easy but there needs to be effort on your end as well
This guy is probably the worst professor I've ever had. You basically have to teach yourself the entire course because you won't learn anything from him. I found myself wondering why I even went to class because everyday I walked out without learning anything.
Quite honestly this professor is the worst I've ever had. Extremely harsh grading on tests - if you show work and the wrong answer 0 points and right answer with little work half points. Lectures will put you to sleep. If possible, stay as far away from this professor as you can. Most people I know dropped the class within the first 2 weeks.
I dropped his class within the first 2 weeks. He's kind of hard to understand if you aren't used to your prof's having heavy accents. I have a friend who is still in the class, and is struggling every day, just to make it through. I would definitely NOT recommend taking his class.
This guy doesnt get his point across at all. Hard to understand. If you dont go to class everyday youre going to really have a hard timelike i am. Even if you go to class it still pretty hard to learn the material.
Best calculus teacher I've ever had
I really enjoyed this class, and it's not too difficult as long as you pay attention and don't miss class. Professor Alan is extremely helpful and is always stops to show examples and let people ask questions. He also provided several extra credit opportunities to help students succeed.
One of the worst professors I have ever had. He is not considerate towards his students, and does not get his point across in lectures. I would not recommend taking this course especially if Professor Alan is going to be teaching you.
Honestly, people give this guy a hard time for no reason. He's a good teacher. Sure, he has an accent that takes some time getting used to. But if you go to class consistently you will understand all of the content. The people who complain about him don't show up to class.
He is absolutely a good teacher. Attendance is not taken, but showing up in every classes is efficient. His accent was confusing at first but it no longer was after a few classes. He writes good notes on blackboard, and it is clear enough if you cannot understand his accent. He also gives great help in his office hours.
Lectures are optional but recitations are mandatory. Alan himself teaches a boring lecture and doesn't attempt to really make lecture interesting. Most of what he teaches does end up on exams.
just not the best lecturer there is. i'm not the strongest in math and i still managed to wring out a B- out of this guy; the tests are pretty easy, open-textbook. he has quite a strong accent and his notes on the display-screen are extremely disorganized. he tends to bop around between ideas.
Coming from someone who never even took a pre-calc class before: If you put in the work and keep up with the lectures, you're guaranteed an A. Lectures are crystal clear, & he makes his tests ridiculously easier than the practice problems he does in class. The tests are identical to practice exams. Got a 78 on first test, 70 on hw, & still got A.
Terrible professor. He has a ridiculously strong accent to where I had no idea whaf he was saying half of the time. The notes taken in class are not grammatically correct whatsoever making it even more difficult to understand what he is trying to get across. The notes also skip around and dont follow a structure. Switch out immediately!
This was the easiest class of my life. You do not need to show up to lecture because he posts everything he does in lecture online. With a class of 200 kids maybe 40 kids showed up to class. The quizzes in recitation are easy because you go over everything before you do them. The exams are exactly like previous years which he also posts..
He doesn't speak very clearly, his tests are hard and his review guides do not help at all
Really good prof. If you have half a brain you will get an A. Do the past papers they are the copy of the exams but with different numbers. Love you Muhammed baby <3
Honestly one of the best profs I've had at Syracuse. The class content isnt always simple but he makes it easy for you to do well by giving extra credit. His exams are problems you've practiced in lectures. If you pay attention, put in effort and show up to class you'll get an A!!
BEST PROF EVER TAKE HIM!
Professor Alan's lectures are all over the place. He also has a very strong accent which can make it hard to understand him at times. The notes he writes in class are hard to follow so you need to teach yourself outside of class or your grade won't be what your looking for. He doesn't take attendance but it's in your best interest to go to class.
did pretty well on the exams although never rely on this man for anything. Not only will you not understand him with a single thing he says, just because he knows it, he will assume you know it. I feel he has a degree but he is not that smart. He is not really a teacher to work with you and unless you know someone, CLASS tutoring is your best bet
Professor Alan was decent. He is genuinely caring. If you ask a question during class, he will go back and explain the material without hesitation. He also gave a lot of extra credit on the exams, drops the lowest 3 HW grades, and had 3 HWs for extra credit. My only problem was sometimes he would mess up on practice test questions.
Prof Alan was an okay teacher. Sometimes it can be hard to understand with his accent and he makes a bunch of spelling mistakes. You will probably be okay without going to all of the lectures. He gives extra credit on all exams and drops your lowest exam grade and 2 lowest homework grades as well. Easy A for me.
Professor Alan is a good guy, but the worst teacher I have ever had. Calculus isn't my strong suit - if it is, maybe you'll be ok in this class. But I learned absolutely nothing. He doesn't explain the material, just goes through problems like you know what he means. Tests and quizzes are worth 75% of your grade, so you need to do well on them.
On the day we took our online final, he catered to international students and gave us from Midnight to 2 pm for a 2 1/2 hour exam. We have had 3 exams already this semester with weekly quizzes so to have a fourth as a final is unheard of. Then the website crashed, none of us could take it/finish it and he said we were lying and didn't care.
Do not take any class with him, I did my best and he did his worst. By far the worst math teacher I have ever had. Made calculus even harder than it should've been. I had prior knowledge of the course information and he made me extremely confused after every lecture. I would not suggest any of his classes to people I like. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASSES.
Terrible teacher end of story. I took one CLASS tutoring session and I learned more in that hour than his entire class. I thought business calc was hard. Its not easy but you can manage. Professor Alan makes it 10x harder. If you have him switch out or drop.
Prof. Alan is extremely hard to understand. In all honesty I go to lectures simply to write down the notes (most of the time I don't know what he is saying) I benefit greatly from CLASS tutoring and office hours with my TA. The class is hard but if you spend time doing homework and get it done early for extra credit, you can succeed. He also curves
Lectures are boring and not easy to understand. 2 exams and a final and weekly quizzes in recitations which the TA usually goes over before giving out so they aren't hard. Calc is not fun not matter who you have.not attendance mandatory and he posts notes weekly. lots of homework but practice exams are just like the real exams so MASTER them
Not a bad professor but the material given in lectures are way easier than the homework and quizzes and also the exams, so lecture doesn't really prepare you for tests. He posts the notes in blackboard which is a good help when studying and also gives very good study guides for the exams. There is a quiz every week and some of the TA's are awful.
I thought this class was going to be brutal, but it wasn't at all. Just make sure you do the homework, and he gives extra credit on it. Doing the practice tests and basically memorizing them is the best way to do good on the exams. His class isn't worth going to in person just read over the notes each week.
I did not think Professor Alan did a great job explaining the material, but if you write out the notes, they are very similar to the homework. The practice exams are practically the exams so if you do them you will do great on the exams. So many extra credit opportunities. I liked professor Alan, he is always available out of the classroom as well.
I didn't go to a single lecture because I couldn't understand what he was saying and he posted the notes anyways. The tests were curved a decent amount and exactly like the practice exams. Go to recitation it's the only way you'll learn the content. Homework took me hours, but you get extra credit if you do it before it's due.
Difficult to understand but he is a very nice guy, but sit close to hear him and take advantage of office hours. Also visit TA office hours they will help you too. Not difficult to do good just need to spend time.
Dr. Alan was amazing. The best professor I had this semester. Many people judge him for his accent but he is an amazing and caring professor. 3 exams, open note, lowest is dropped. 2 homework's weekly and an easy lab once a week. Extra credit when HW is completed a week before the due date. Dr. A is available outside of class to meet for extra help
Does not take attendance, but it would be in your favor. He does offer extra credit towards those who participate in class or even just simply attending. He also emails weekly reminders and posting class notes if you do end up missing class. He also curves tests depending on how the class does, overall wanting everyone to get a good grade.
I am surprised that a professor like him is teaching at such a highly ranked university. This man hates students. The transfer of knowledge to students is minimal and only what he has to. His lessons are like reading a chapter review page at the end of a chapter. What a waste of time and money. Please do not take classes with this professor.
Professor Alan does his best but sadly the teaching style is subpar. He simply reads and highlights already written down notes and then tells you to just print the notes out to learn. There are very few examples given in class. Not to mention that the pace of his teaching is insane. Had to copy notes down outside of class multiple times.
Please avoid this professor. The professor uses "OneNote" and quickly switches from one page to another, leaving no time for the students to complete any notes during class and write down what they consider as important. So, at the end of the day you end up with a lot of broken notes that don't make any sense, which is very frustrating.
The whole class revolves around the 3 tests and the final, the homework, and the recitation. The lectures were not too helpful, but Prof Alan was always motivating and kind.
There is no recitation or quizzes for extra practice so your grade is only from tests and homework. Tough accent to understand although he does try. He also frequently posts practice exam questions riddled with mistakes so you spend time trying to fix that instead of studying. Avoid if possible but heard the other professors arent much better.
I didn't enjoy this class just because of the pace of the lectures. He goes extremely quickly and most of the time, I had to teach myself the material outside of class. Only 3 tests and the final but all are open book. There is also a lot of homework, at least 3 or 4 assignments a week. The recitation is an easy grade though since it's just labs.
This professor has special needs. He does not understand how to teach a class. He speaks with a very heavy accent and will stop class every few minutes because of the class is making noise. Do not take a class with him.
A challenging subject to most taught by someone who expects everyone to understand it immediately. Lectures are confusing and are better off going to tutoring instead of class. Teaches very fast and does not slow down. Overall, take any other teacher besides Alan.
If there is one piece of advice I'd give to any Syracuse student, it would be to NOT take one of this guy's classes. He has a thick accent which makes it hard to understand him, & he messes up on lecture notes all the time to the point where I've questioned his ability to teach and do simple math. BEWARE
His accent is hard to understand at first. He sometimes makes mistakes in his math which isn't ideal for a math professor. The TA's do a much better job teaching the math in recitation than he does. Difficulty is average, but prepare to teach yourself some of the stuff and signing up for tutors if math isn't your strong suit.
The lectures do not take attendance but it's helpful to go. The recitations take attendance and you'll have a quiz weekly. The TAs are very knowledgeable on the subject and are willing to help. You will be assigned HW with every lesson. You can earn extra credit by doing the HW in advance. As for the test, he usually gives extra credit and curves.
Doesn't have great English, and often messes up during lectures. The beginning of class wasn't that hard, and got very difficult towards the end. The homework has extra credit if you complete it early. Exams are in person and closed book. Class isn't mandatory but I recommend going.
You need to attend every class to get a decent grade. Prof is fair and gives lots of extra credit on tests and homeworks. He posts detailed notes after every class but they are handwritten so sometimes hard to read. He is very open to questions. Not available outside class hours - 8 am office hours only and he hates technology including Zoom.
If you actually go to the lectures and pay attention in recitations, you will be fine. Every problem you do on an exam, quiz, or homework, he will show you how to do step by step. Extra credit for getting homework done on time, and the exams are either curved or have bonus points. TAs are very helpful. The class is not as bad as people say it is.
Professor Alan is a bad lecturer yet a good professor. The materials are hard if you haven't taken precalc and haven't done algebra in 2 years but he doesn't want you to fail. I tried hard in this class and spoke often with the professor. I am happy to have received my grade despite working (pointlessly?) hard for it
Worst professor ever. Professor Alan made math that I've been doing since middle school confusing to me. If I tuned him out during lectures I would understand the material better. If a student tries to correct him he ignores them and continues on with class. It is very hard to understand what he is saying and has terrible handwriting, so good luck.
Alan doesn't always have the most patience, but he's a very good professor and explains the material clearly. Exams are easy to do well on if you follow his practice exams, of which he posts multiple. Very helpful during office hours, but does not schedule them at the best times. I liked him a lot and would take another class with him if I could.
Professor Alan is such a nice guy. There's tons of extra credit and other opportunities to improve. Recitation is annoying but not hard, and all exams are open note. Definitely not a difficult class or professor, just make sure you take good notes
Gives extra credit, always available outside of class. He's hard to become close to but you can tell he actually cares. Must show up to recitation which is annoying but no attendance is taken in lecture. Overall not bad.
cant even do his own questions right even on the study guide
Alan himself is horrible. He can't do his own questions right during lecture, but you don't have to go to them anyways. The recitations are SUPER helpful. You can pass the class just with the recitations. Highly recommend TA Tristen Carrig. Exams are the same format at his old ones. If you study the old exams you'll be just fine.
Professor Alan makes more mistakes than any teacher I've ever had.
Do the work and you will succeed even if you don't attend lectures.
Largest issue was schedule becoming disconnected between recitation quizzes and lecture content and exams. I believe at one point we took the exam before the quiz. Highly organized and you don't actually need the textbook if you attend lecture and use the note taking guides. Homework has built in extra credit for timeliness.
His lectures aren't the best I definitely skipped quite a few but the recitations are actually super helpful. He posts the past exams + a study guide before the actual exam so you have an idea about what you should look at. I did not take calc in high school and didn't try super hard in this class and still got an A.
Lectures can get a bit dull, but he's a good teacher and clearly cares about his students. Gives you multiple copies of past exams which makes studying easy, opportunities for extra credit. If you actually pay attention in this class, you should be fine.
I did not attend a single lecture. He posts notes online. His tests are not very hard. His lectures made me more lost if anything but I had a great recitation teacher which is all that matters. If you do the homework before the extra credit deadline, you will do fine in this class.
i literally stopped going to lectures and understood the material more. this class was fine, he posts past exams so as long as u have those in notes you will be fine but he is literally the worst.
extra credit is available on each homework assignment, def use it to ur advantage. open note for each test so that's easy but there's no point in going to lectures just teach yourself the math
Tons of extra credit available, and the class is not hard. The lectures are really dull, but he posts lots of study guides in time for the exam which is open notes. The material is easy, but he tends to over-explain. Recitations are also very easy, just make sure you show up.
Professor Alan was very hard to understand, but all of his tests are open note. Very hard to fail if you do not take good notes for the tests, I didnt think it was that bad because attendance was not mandatory the lectures were just boring.
This class wasn't hard at all as long as you go to class and go to office hours if you need help. All tests are open notes and homework always gets extra credit. I would highly recommend this class if you want an easy A
Attendance is not mandatory and I only went for the exams, all notes are posted and every thing is open note
He is a great professor that PROVIDES HIS LECTURE NOTES!!! I have never seen that done before and was able to learn via those and have gotten 100's on all exams. He also reminded me to sign up for CDR for my exams and is geniunely a good guy! You will fail this class if you don't review and do the work but he makes it very hard to.
This guy is honestly not a great professor but he is a great guy. He provides all his lecture notes which i found to be super helpful. Attendance is not mandatory. All tests are open notes. You do need to study for the tests but that might take 30 min out of your day to do. Him and his handwriting are super hard to understand though.
Muhammed Alan exempted me from an exam instead of letting me take it with the CDR. Lazy.
I don't think he enjoys this material or teaching this class. He's the most monotone professor I've ever had. The class would be so much worse without the extra credit on the homework. I got points taken off on my exams for strange things like forgetting arrows even though my answer was correct. Written and online homework is such overkill.
Muhammed was hard to understand at the beginning of the semester but if you attend lecture regularly you'll get used to it. Skipped a couple of times and didn't fall behind because I just used the notes that he'd post. He is a great professor and I'd take another course with him.
Dr Alan was acrually a really understanding professor and def gives the easiest of all MAT 485 classes. HIS PRACTICE EXAMS ARE EXACTLY LIKE THE EXAMS, YOU DONT NEED TO STUDY ANYTHING BUT THOSE TO GET 100%. The class is overall kind of confusing but if you miss a lecture it is your demise. He's also a poor rated prof because of the fast pace class.
lots of homework!!! lectures are very hard to understand so i stopped going. tests are pretty easy as long as you do the practice tests.
This class was relatively easy as long as you do the note taking guides. Attendance is not mandatory and as long as you do the notes eventually you will be fine. The practice tests are exactly like the exams and they are all open note. Overall, boring lecture but easy class.
cant understand his accent. Over complicates things. Doesnt finish sentences.
Professor Alan's lectures can be dry, but the recitations are super helpful. Definitely use unstuck ai and past exams to prepare - they'll make studying a breeze. Easy A if you put in the work.
Professor Alan's lectures may seem tiring and boring, but he is a good man who allows a lot of extra credit (if you submit your homework early). He also allows for open note tests which are very helpful.
hes not bad, homework you can get extra credit on, and he posts practice exams that are exactly like the exam so it is super easy to be prepared for exams. i skipped lectures sometimes and just looked at the notes that he posted afterwards. honestly not that bad of a class and i am not good at math but the prof himself is a difficult to understand
dont take it
I honestly thought the class was great. the tests were all open note, and I barely went to lecture and did well. He was reachable outside of class, and when I had a flight conflict for the final he was super understanding let me retake it later. theres a fair amount of homework but if you understand the material it never took more than an hour max.
Muhammad is a fantastic professor. If you want to receive an easy A, TAKE THIS CLASS!!! -provides note packets you print out and write on them during the lectures -provides students with past exams and practice exam questions that are nearly IDENTICAL to what is on the exams. -Go to lectures!!!!! -Offers extra credit on HW assignments
-Cant understand him in lectures -Lots of homework that is not put on Blackboard you have to find yourself -Open note exams but they are somehow still difficult
I mean yeah he can be difficult to understand but tbh I never really went to lecture, I don't recommend doing this but I was just too busy to bring myself to go tbh. Exams are open note and we could bring as many papers as we wanted to I did good on exams. Lab is super easy and so are homeworks. Pretty easy class and the professor is fine
Professor Alan is a good guy who wants everyone to do well. He can be hard to understand at first but you get used to it. His postlab notes help a lot. Exams are open note and lab is simple. He doesn't take attendance. Content felt similar to my IB APPS class in hs. Review notes and use practice exams; they're almost identical.
Take him if you need this class! All exams are open-note, and you can even bring past exams to help with the one you're taking. You don't even need to study much as long as you bring notes. He's a caring and funny professor who gives extra credit on tests and homework and offers extra office hours. He genuinely cares about your success.
Professor Alan is great!!! He is so sweet, and all the tests are open notes!! He gives extra credit if you submit your homework early! Going to lectures, helps reinforce the topics, and helps you do better on exams. He gives you every resource to succeed, so I very much recommend him!
Very easy class if you go and pay attention in lectures. Posts notes every week and you can get extra credit on all homework assignments. Tests are very easy and all open note, exactly like the practice tests he gives. Very funny and kind person.
Yes, he has an accent and if you struggle to hear him simply move to the front of the lecture hall. Although attendance isn't mandatory, I would recommend going to class because he covers everything. He also very kindly posts all of the class material with his annotations, and provides past tests for review. LOVED Prof. Alan!!!
This is the best professor EVERRRR. The class is an easy A—homework is basically extra credit if done on time, and all exams are open note. Previous exams with answer keys are allowed during tests. Attendance isn't mandatory, and this class genuinely makes life easier.
He gives so much extra credit that it's literally insane. I am not a good test taker, with the two midterms being around 80s for me, but I still came out of the class with a 99.2% grade. Tests have a minimum of 10 bonus points and homework grades get multiplied by 4/3 when turned in early. He is by far the best MAT 485 professor at this university.
Give extra credit if you finish hw early. Open note test. Gives the last 5 years of test which are basically the same questions. IF YOU PRINT OUT THE TEST AND PUT STEP BY STEP HOW TO SOLVE YOU WILL GET A 100. Got a 103 on my final for the class
Has an odd obsession with white chocolate, Star Trek, and Lord of the Rings. Moves very fast through slides and kind of hard to keep up. All notes are on blackboard and don't need to attend, obviously helps to.
So much extra credit. Tests are open note and he provides past exams that are nearly identical to current ones. Lecture attendance not mandatory but make sure you go to your recitation.
Good stuff. Just keep up with your work, all exams were open note.
