He's a good guy, but cant keep the class from falling asleep. Most people just space out. He expects a LOT from his students.
Great Teacher and a Good Person
No Comments
The guy loves fluids..and life..
Great person. Class was not very interesting...
Took 263 when he first taught it; I thought he did a good job. He cares a lot, perhaps too much; not all students are interested in the material. (Although it is very useful stuff, and applies to future courses) Reading the text before the lecture helped, as the lectures and text complement each other.
Very motivational and loving teacher
Missed his calling as a motivational speaker. Loves everything except for absent students. Take his class if you need a boost in self esteem.
Great teacher, made the tutorials interesting. Sometimes talked too much about his own thoughts, and took a long time to return assignments.
He Rocks!
He's pretty good and seems genuinely interested in how well you do. I found his lectures rather dull as he used lots of math to explain where as i would've prefered learning concepts and brushing over the math. Overall he's good, but he wasted too much time with our class being disappointed with us.
Teacher was well prepared and always willing to help. However his marking was on the hard side and exams were difficult to study for because there were no practice exams.
He is an excellent professor
He's definitely interested in teaching... It just sometimes seems like he doesn't have as much background in the subject as needed... but a lot of passion for helping students and everything!
He's a really nice guy and is dedicated to his work. He has good ethics and intentions and is very willing to go the extra distance to help you out.
Difficult subject but the prof tries to teach to the best of his ability.
We are ina veli goode shepe
great prof! always interested in the topic we discussed in class :)
Enthusiastic, knowledgeable, concerned about student learning.
Dr. Aldarbi is an amazing caring teacher...Wish you all the best in your teaching future
Muhannad is an honest intelligent individual with a clear and realistic sense of the purpose of APSC 262. He reminds me of the Dhali Lama
Mr Darbi was very helpful and passionate about all the topics we talked about in the tutorials.
Has a lot of interest in the subject, and tries to inspire the students. Only big problem i experienced was that, he wasted too much time telling the class to work hard. 5 min each class X 30ish classes = 150 min wasted! Then asks us to come to extra sessions...absurd.
The Best
GOOD PROF. HE IS VERY HELPFUL
awesome teacher, cares alot about his students, teaching skills very effective...u learn alot from this guy
he is greaattttttttt
Keeps the pace high, which is awesome. You won't get bored, and if you pay attention you can absorb a lot quickly. Maybe he should leave slides up a little bit longer though...ha...
He's a nice prof, care about his students very much. The lecture materials are quite too hard, but he makes the case quiz very easy and fair. Nice prof!
Should have been a motivation speaker. Quiz was easy, but fair. Really quick at helping people by responding to emails.
He was VERY encouraging...I could feel confident about this course. Thank you for being encouraging!
Really Nice, Always encouraging, wanted to make sure that we were having fun as well as doing well in school, so didn't give very much hard homework.
This prof would make a Wonderful third or forth professor. However, considering this was a first year course, the homework assignments were way too difficult. But, he was extrmemely enthusiatic for every lecture, cared for the well being of every student, and was willing to help students in any way possible.
Though his classes are somewhat over the head for the average student, with hard (and constant) work you can definately get around to it. If you are willing to work and have even somewhat interest in the class, you should be fine with him. He likes students who ask relevant questions, will reply to your mails and remember to be quite in class!
Great professor! Always willing to help any student out. Very motivational and will do anything to make sure students are clear and understand what he is teaching. Excellent professor. He even writes motivational emails which actually help students more than one may think. Thank you professor.
They way he interact with students and how he challenges students in different ways is remarkable.
Great teacher, cares about students, expects students to work hard which is completely reasonable
Very encouraging and fair, even with difficult course content. Always cared to know if people were having fun and doing well.
He cares about you. He is a wonderful guy. No one could possibly hate him. He has reasonable expectations. If things are too hard for you. He will help you. Good Lectures. Even his tests are fair. Hope I get him later in my school career.
"Always available for students" and very encouraging, though he had a difficult time initially judging the level of students he was teaching (first year students don't know fluid mechanics or chemical rate laws).
He is a Wonderful professor and genuinely cares about his students, which is quite rare. He is also very enthusiastic and cheerful. Although his assignments seemed difficult, his test was not, and it was very reasonable. Wish you all the best professor Al-Darbi!
Excellent teaching, very clear, cares about us, and makes us understand the material
Truly an amazing teacher. he was someone you could look up to and hope to become. Very encouraging, helpful, and understood what the students were going through and always wanted to be there for them if he could. Although the course was hard on me because i had no previous knowledge, he was an outstanding teacher and i hope to have him again.
Very good prof with clear explaination.
An ideal prof we are always looking for. He is a passional man. As a student, not only can you get more kwonledge from him, but you will also behave more confidently in your further studies because of his encouragement. He is availible to the students all the time.
Very encouraging. Extremely helpful. A wonderful person. Expects a lot from the student.
Very good profff
A very helpful prof indeed! Wonderful!
His assignments are too hard!
Nice guy, however expects us to use calculations which we haven't been taught yet.
Real Good Prof.......really enjoyed his classes..
I don't know what his more important classes are like, but for his section of APSC 150, he always asked us how we were doing and was very nice. I have heard that he responded to many e-mails, and sent out an e-mail to everyone if many people were having difficulties with any of the assignments. He is always looking for feedback on his teaching.
Great teacher. Demonstrates attributes other than "just another prof"
This course content at least was either far to high or low. Goes through how to balance an equation, then assumes we know integration. However, he seems to be genuinely (I doubted this at first it seemed almost overdone) one of the most kind and caring people I have ever met.
Good teacher, cares about his students. Assignments seem very difficult, but the exam was quite easy.
Wonderful! Genuinely interested in the success of his students. However his lectures can be tough to follow.
Great professor. Very Helpful. Material taught was hard but he gave us great help.
Has the teaching skills and definitely cares for his students. the material could be learn easilly if there were more explanations and time. the assignments were very hard but they the exams are fair.
The prof was very helpful but the course material was at a whole different level. The prof was definitely not responsible for the students lacking of knowledge in completing the assignments.
Material covered was challenging, but he answers all your questions with detail! Caring professor who wants his students to do well; constantly checks up on his students.
Caring, but annoying. Only 5 ppl out of 200 get what he talks about.
the prof cared student love him
Muhannad is an awesome prof, the stuff that he teaches is fairly hard for first years, but more than makes up for it by his willingness to help.
Great professor. Goes to lengths to show and explain why the formula is as it is.
Though the material he teaches may be a little difficult, the help that he gives to the student as well as his cheerful attitude in class makes him a "wonderful" =D professor! Thank you, Professor Al-Darbi.
He was very hard and expected alot out of first year students. He was very kind and wonderful.
Material was very hard to understand, but Prof. was very helpful, kind, and sympathetic to our problems. Not at all his fault that the TA's are unable to acctually teach us the material.
Before teaching our class, the prof assumed we already studied fluid dynamics, so we were all confused as to what he was teaching us. That being said, he was extremely helpful in that he would try to get us to understand the material, and was understanding when he realized that we didn't know fluid dynamics that much. I would recommend!
A very good person with lots of good advice. Also a good teacher.
Prof was very knowledgeable of material, however had some false assumptions of what we had already covered before his class. Definitely a difficult learning experience.
The homework for your course was very hard, but I feel that in the three weeks I had you as a professor, I learned more from you than any of my other professors, which I have had for 2 months.
Very enthusiastic and high energy teaching. Very open to ideas and always try to help his students. However, the difficulty level of the materials could be dropped.
This case is a blessing. Everything is so structured and easy. Some students find it hard because they didnt take calculus on high school. However, If one has already completed Single Variable Calculus in High school, this case is the easiest case!! Moreover, I have also develop more interest on Chem Eng. NICE JOB DR AL DARBI!!
I Liked his lectures but the Homework was a bit too hard. Overall, I thought he was a really good teacher.
AL DARBI is the one teacher who makes you feel comfortable at university. Even though, he's a bit confusing; he is definitely the most approachable teacher on campus.
funny teacher who always says "excellent" and "wonderful" Was always entertaining, but have to follow to really fast lectures and notes
Very caring and understanding towards students, but course material covered was also very high-level. Overall fantastic professor.
He is a good instructor.
hes alright
good teacher i like his pronunciation
APSC 150: Chemical Reaction Car was challenging in that very little prior knowledge was known in fluid dynamics. in addition, it was also a stretch to try and tie many concepts together very quickly. HOWEVER, after you get the hang of it, review your notes and do some practice problems, the reward is great. I loved this class, it's not impossible.
An all around kind and caring person, for the subject and his students. He moved through the material very quickly but his lecture slides were great and told you exactly what you need to know! Overall, I really enjoyed the class and what we learned
Dr. Al-Darbi gives extremely hard class work and challenging problems to solve; however at the same time he cares about his students and tries very hard for them to get the highest possible grade. If you really do pay attention in his class and do all the tutorial work, you are guaranteed a good grade.
The lectures were a little unclear and he assumed we knew things that we hadn't been taught before, but he's an extremely nice prof who seems to genuinely hope everyone does well and will try and help any chance he gets.
one of the best profs i ever had .... extremely helpfull .... above all he's gem of a person.
Al-Darbi is an extremely nice professor who cares about his students. He is enthusiastic, making the lectures... Wonderful! He takes feedback seriously, so you can be assured your voice is heard. But the material is very challenging and he assumes you are able to do it.
Only helpful if you asked questions
Definitely a caring professor! He cares for students' progress, learning as well as marks. He also gives a lot of bonus! Best teacher in APSC150.
the whole concept of the chemical mobile was a hard subject to understand.. the prof did what he could and it was our job to pull it off. Mostly we didnt have to all his lectures, because his notes were really clear. do all the lab questions, dont copy from someone else. they DO help you.
Great teacher with dedicated passion to teach his students. Very helpful and supportive.
Always willing to help, very friendly, even if he went through the material quite fast.
Was very supportive and friendly, but should teach things that are more applicable, rather than how to derive difficult formulas that do not appear on the exam.
The whole of the time he was teaching us, he was unaware, regardless of emails sent to him explaining, that his students had absolutely no background knowledge in the area he required (specifically high-level integral calculus), and he should have spent time to look into his students background education, but a very enthusiastic teacher
Brilliant and helpful teacher. But the course materials ain't something that are easy to deal with.
He was helpful and very excited to teach. But he expected us to know more than we did.
Dr.Aldarbi was my favorite professor ever! He is kind, helpful, and encouraging. He made me interested in getting in to mojor in chemical engineering! He is aaaaaaaaaaaaaawesome!!!!!!!
Great guy, not a bad prof. Very enthusiastic and willing to help, but the material requires a firm calculus background. Overall, could be a lot worse.
Awesome professor. Really cares about his students. Stuff can be challenging and professor may go really technical (not crystal clear) at times, but go to class, take in everything he has to offer, and e-mail him if anything is still not clear and it definitely won't be your hardest class ever.
He really cares about his students and their well being in the class. It was a pleasure learning in his class.
I really appreciate your caringness towards the well being of your students. You made me feel comfortable in class and that encouraged me to listen. One problem was the speed at which you covered the material, that made it a little hard to follow at some points, especially near the end.
He's a very passionate person other than being a helpful professor. His practice problems are quite hard; however through groupwork and labs, most people got through fine. He gives out bonus marks to raise our marks when he thinks it's necessary. Overall, he is very helpful, but you must take initiative to get help from him.
Other than being a great professor, he's awesome a passionate person who cares about your feelings towards this course and life in general. I give him At Least a 4.0!
The professor was very helpful, but in the end, he cannot help us on our exams. This is where the problem is. The material he taught to us first years was for second year chemical engineering, and so, very difficult to understand.
Teacher was not bad, the topic was in general very difficult to do so you cant blame him. Only problem is he spent too much time talking about non related things and barely any time on complicated equations....wonderful!
His assignments were very difficult and almost every class the TA's had to go through every problem. He was a really nice guy though and did do everything to boost our marks. The exam at the end of his case study was very fair and far easier than any of the work in class. Above all else he really cares for his class.
The teacher was very interested in the topic. He taught every class with great enthusiasm. The lectures were a bit fast paced however, upon review of the notes, the concepts taught were much clearer.
Extremely clear and systematic in his way of teaching. He is also very enthusiastic and helpful towards the students:)
The class was challenging. The midterm was definitely easier than the level that was being covered in the actual class. This was good, because you learned the basics while also getting a feel for what you would be covering in the future should you choose to go into mechanical engineering. Overall, a thoroughly enjoyable class.
Very helpful, he understood that few students had the calculus background that was needed for the case and adapted the lectures to help us out. He cares about his students and made sure we were involved in the lectures and were comfortable going into the exam.
Great Professor.
Very helpful professor. Cares about his students
Hes kind and encouraging! I love his life attitude?! not related to the subject? ok hes passionate to teaching and students. Just the materials are kinda hard for me. We seemed got good grades on it tho =)
Good guy who loves life and wants to help his students...but he does expect you to comprehend the material quickly which at some times seems unfair based on what he wants us to know, but he does make up for it with bonus assignments where you can work to get your marks back
Kind prof, really caring about students. He seems to really like teaching people, and it shows in his lectures. Only complaint is that course material seemed a bit too difficult for first year; everyone in class had their fair share of struggles with the work assigned.
Really care for his students! A man of his words!
really good teacher :)
Lectures were sometimes dull and hard to stay awake in at times. It was mostly the material he had to teach, a little bit monotone and not very charismatic. HOWEVER, Al-Darbi was genuine extremely nice. He honestly cares about his student's understanding. He sent all of his students an email to offer help after he stopped teaching the course(!)
I like the passion he has for life and his willingness to help the students. Thanks Prof!!!!
Al-Darbi likes to start his lectures off with some thoughts about life and study. These sub-lectures are very positive, and they gave me an extra push to master the challenging material in his class. If you approach him outside of class, he is friendly and will answer your questions as clearly as possible.
Wonderful.
The Best Prof ever
A real genuine human being. Will do anything to help his students. Just an all around nice guy.
Very helpful prof. The class got off to a rocky start but he persevered and ensured that he did his job effectively. I love how flexible and fair he is to students. The only problem sometimes is that examples are hard to understand in class but if you visit him, he will take the time to explain it to you. 5 stars Mr Al-Derby!!
Students mean the world to this awesome prof
Almost too accommodating. in some cases it would almost be nice if he had put his foot down instead of trying to please every student as it would have saved time. All he did a good job teaching a difficult to teach class.
This prof is WONDERFUL.
He is a very good teacher and nice guy. He tries his best to help students. If you can manage to the home works, he gives you pass the course with good marks and better understanding. Highly recommanded.......
Did a good job of teaching a difficult course. Extremely accommodating. Long assignments, but they covered all material in each chapter, making tests easier to study for. Always available outside of class for help.
Amazingly caring, dedicated teacher. Very understanding and fair. Not giving away marks but tries quite hard to appropriately represent your understanding of the material in your grade. Excellent notes, and course material provided. Very cheerful and social as well, not grumpy or overly serious!
Great guy - incredibly caring, hardworking, and dedicated. Tried to make everyone happy, which is not easy considering how hard the course was. Always replies to emails, always willing to help. All in all, a fantastic Prof.
Genuinely nice and caring prof. Sometimes a bit too nice, and time gets wasted, but he always has the best intentions. Very helpful and takes pride in your success
I just feel he cannot teach. In class, he tends to ramble and switch between slides at a rapid pace. Although he does help outside of class - so it's hard to really give him too low a score.
Genuinely nice person. Will try his best to help you succeed in his class. Notes are clear enough to understand the material. Only negative is that there is not enough examples in class to prepare students to handle assignments, midterms etc considering that the degree of difficulty for these is quite high.
he is a such a nice guy and generous for midterms. Yet he can not teach, he explains all the theory during the lecture (which is useless since it has been learnt in other course which is a pre-requisite for the course). When it is time to do the examples or tutorial or midterms, most of us don't even know how to start..
Difficult course, but is fair because he gives you a chance to pass by putting assignment questions on midterms.
Nice guy, very caring for his students but cannot teach. Is very erratic in his teaching and marking style which is detrimental to both parties. He wastes over half the class time either with rambling or teaching us concepts we already know instead of how to apply those concepts to the new material. I hope he gets the fundamentals of teaching down.
I know from experience that when teaching with Power Point, it's very hard to pace oneself with the speed of the class' learning uptake. Tough examples are often rushed through, while trivial points are commonly overemphasized. But slides are required in 244, due to the large class size: Don't blame the prof; it's circumstance. Al-Darbi means well.
Great guy but cannot teach. Hard midterms and tutorials. expect us to learn a chapter within a day of him teaching it....most people in tutorials are not even sure where to start!!! ...keeps asking for opnions but cannot take them properly
He cares alot for the students. If given enough effort, good mark is achievable.
Genuinely nice guy. Please try to get help from him as early as possible if you run into any troubles. His one big weakness, though, is that he cannot take criticism. He will take everything people say on this site very seriously (when you should really take it with a grain of salt) and will ramble endlessly on it, which in turn wastes class time.
He is a great guy. He cares a lot and tries to help his students as much as he can. The way of his teaching is OK but still students can get lots of help from him. He is always there for us!
He shows care and he spends enough time when one acquires extra help. Marking is very flexible to help and encourage students. The only downside is that he gets annoyed if someone talks in class and waste so much time explaining how annoyed he gets. But overall a very helpful and nice person.
Fantastic person, great professor. It was painful watching this mans passion wasted on a bunch of spoiled rich kids with no respect. Take my advice, you will not get this much attention and respect from any other professor during your entire education. Take full advantage, there is a lot to be learned from this very intelligent and insightful man
This prof is one of a kind. A truly prophetic person who is sincere and committed to helping his students do well in his class and in life.
Don't believe all the reviews. Lectures were impossible to follow and asking him for help would leave you more confused and frustrated than before. He wasted a huge amount of class time telling us how far behind/disappointing we were and rambling rather than explaining the material. Bad sign = prof ranting at class more than once during final.
He is excellent
