exellent professor. i highly recommend him
He is really nice but his class is a little hard. There were 5 exams for my class (not including the final) but he drops the lowest one. Precalculus was horrible! But he does take time outside of class to help students if they ask for it. Make sure you study a lot or you will fail.
Prof. goes kinda fast through material, but explains..fast also. keep up. nice guy tho, kinda quirky. Definitely helps his students tho if they need it, and go to his math lab hrs. test questions are harder than the examples done in class. thats what got me.
One of the worst math teachers I've ever had. Boring lectures, and he's not very helpful since he gets very defensive if you ask questions. Also, he doesn't give review sheets for tests. Unless you're already a math wiz, don't take his class! You will learn nothing.
He is an excellent math instructor. Although, he is not easy, if wants you to learn, and he won't just give you the answers (what would be the point of that, you can look for the answers on the back of the book) He helps you to understand and to analyze what you are doing. And is true, he does not give a review sheet but he gives you the topics.
Great teacher. Taught me the importance of grazing. Would definitely recommend!
Easiest class ever. He's very clear with his work. He cannot take students who has no commonsense. If you ask him a dumb question, he will make you look dumb. So i guess he isn't that helpful because he's very blunt. Overall, if you pay attention, class will be easy & take a lot of notes!
Go to class, take great notes. Ask questions when you dont understand the material, because Choy will do a great job in making you understand it. Complete all your homework, and study from it becuase thats where he gets most of his test questions from. If you do that, you're set for an A in the class. Lastly, Choy is a very easy going professor.
hes really nice and even though he is young he knows how to make his superiority known along with having a really good relationship with the students. while he may struggle with explaining into detail with questions, he wont stop until you really understand.
He and the class is a bit annoying but he gets the job done. Homeworks online, drops one test grade, and allows for 5 points extra credit per exam. It was more work than I expected from a math101 class but Choy gets you through it.
Don't let his young appearance fool you, he knows what he's talking about. When we're going over examples in class, he often asks the students specific questions on how did we get to to that step as a reminder and makes sure we remember everything. He offers extra credit a few weeks before every exam which is helpful study guide.
He is horrible his exams are ten time harder than class work & homework so how can h possibility study for his exams. Do your search before picking a math professor at hunter.
Honestly dont waste your time on him, just not worth going to class. Dont make a mistake..
Run for the hills.... stay away from any of his classes
Unless you're a math wiz like him don't take this professor
His exams are tough. He explains a lot during his lectures but you really need to study right afterwards. His extra credits assignments will shave off hours out of your days.
It's a typical boring math class, but he is able to explain the topics fairly well, if you don't understand something he will try to explain it to you. Tests are tough, but he gives extra credit for each exam. He takes off a lot of points on tests for minor mistakes. The textbook is not needed, but you need the online access code to use MyMathLab.
I feel like he is pretty clear . But you will have to pay attention
Good professor. His tests are simple as long as you had some background in math and show up. He gives lengthy extra credit assignments before each test, but it's a great study tool and is the same format of his exams. His exams will over prepare you for the departmental final. I wish I took the online homework more serious so I could've gotten an A
I just wrapped up a 6 week Calculus II course with him and it was great. He does a really great job at explaining the concepts visually and verbally. Although it was an accelerated course, I did not feel like we rushed through the material. Overall, I am really satisfied.
I took both Math 125 and Math 150 with him, and enjoyed his teaching. He explained the material well and was organized, which helped me take really useful and thorough notes to study from. His tests reflected the notes we took in class, so study and practice from them and you'll be able to learn the material and do well in class.
Didn't go to one lecture and got an A- in the class. His extra credit assignments before the class do an excellent job at preparing you for the exam.
I'm nearing graduation, and he is the worst professor Ive ever had. Is that enough for you? He is very arrogant and actually quite mean-spirited.
he was a good professor, but definitely tough and has a high sense of self. you'll have to work for your grade, but the extra credit stuff does help so he's a nice soul for that.
Lectures were organized. He was prepared and on-time for each class, which from my experience at Hunter tends to be the exception. Tests were graded and returned the following class day. He provided a review sheet for each test. Funny and nice guy, just don't ask him questions you can reasonably find out for yourself.
Professor Choy is a solid teacher who really knows the material. I took him for Calc2 & Calc3 & he explained everything clearly & definitively. Everything that he tests on was covered in class, and he usually has a study session in class before an exam. The EC assignment copies the exam & is an amazing study tool!! He will help if you ask for it!!
Two hours of straight notes. Tests are difficult but do the homework because the tests are from the homework. Extra Credit is a blessing DO IT! He is a little bit sarcastic, but good professor. Go in with some prior knowledge because his class could be somewhat difficult and confusing.
He came prepared and on time to class daily. He was a no-nonsense professor. His homework assignments were all written but that helps you to learn the material better. Extra credit is given and it's a good way to study for tests, it's also 5 points on the test!
I took math 150 with him and i really expected worse. However, I actually enjoyed his class and learned a good amount. He teaches a lot during class so be prepared to write a lot of notes and he takes homework pretty seriously. Although it is only 10% he grades it extremely thoroughly. His exams arent hard as long as you put in some effort to study
Exellent professor who is extremely knowledgable and diligent. He goes at a slower pace than most other calc profs, but only to make sure students are getting a thorough understanding, not to dumb the class down. He also skips some of the more useless/tedious stuff in the book. I've never enjoyed a math class as much as his, definitely recommend.
AMAZING PROFESSOR ! you have to put in the work but you'll learn alot!
Calculus II is a difficult course, but this guy is efficient. Do the homework assignments/extra credit sheets before the exams, and you should be ok. His exams are not super hard if you understand the problems given in the extra credit and homeworks. Keep up and put in effort.
MK is one of the best math professors. He may come off as sassy and intimidating, but he is a great lecturer. He doesn't test you on anything you haven't learned in class. 5pt E.C. on each exam if you do the worksheet he gives you. He waits until the class understands a concept before moving on. Do the work, get your A. Calc 2 is brutal, be ready.
Many people find him intimidating because he doesn't sugarcoat anything. Everything that you need to pass the course is clearly provided to you, he is also very organized and I envy his time management skills. He does a marvelous job by grading and turning back the exams as soon as possible. Also lots of extra credit offered! Highly recommended
Took for calculus. The test questions are way harder then anything he uses as examples or puts on the sheet. Is extremely rude too, especially when asked questions. It seems like he gets annoyed at having to explain things again, if he even puts any effort into a response, which he usually will not do. Don't take if you struggle with math.
Choy is a solid professor for Math 150. He is a very straight-forward person & forces you to think about your answers introspectively. Class is participation-intensive which means students should always try to participate so you learn faster. Overall, he's amazing and would love to have him again. Disclaimer: he can be a bit 'harsh' on students.
I'll give credit where credit is due: He knows his stuff. His attitude, on the other hand, is extremely repulsive. If you don't know everything to the moon and back about calculus, or math in general, Prof. Choy is very disrespectful to you. I can't wait to get out of his class. Heed my warning: Take someone else if you want less stress for calc.
3 exams and one final (exams are 90% of ur grade) & online webassign HW (10%). He give 8 pts extra credit on each exam if you do the review sheet. I attend every class, pay attention on most of them, do the review sheets, and get A+. Not a hard class if you put in the time and understand the material.
Probably 1 of the better calc professors in Hunter. Calc isnt supposed to be easy and theres no way to get an easy A in calc anywhere. Regardless, you should take Chou as a prof is youre willing to put in effort cuz u will get that A with him. Nice extra credit on test and provides all u need for that A. Never expected to receive an A but did.
MK Choy is a fantastic teacher! Incredibly helpful and accommodating. He really wants you to learn and do the best that you can, and will go out of his way to help you. He gives you plenty of opportunities to do well. You'll definitely learn a lot of math from his class. Studying is a must.
Like others have said, he gets the job done. If you understand what he is teaching, and do the Homework, you will pass easy. But if you understand the material, he can come off as rude "Oh if you don't know this... then you're in trouble" "If you don't know this already... walk out". Also he makes the homework harder than tests
The main negative I can find is that you have to pay a lot for the webassign and homework, the homework there is more difficult than the tests given. He may come off as rude at first but he's actually trying to help up prepare what we should be knowing. Please choose him for calc.
Professor Choy is the greatest Calc professor at hunter. I took him this semester he gives extra credit that resembles the exam and then the extra credit gives an extra 8 points on the exam. Although sometimes he may stop the class because of specifics, he really knows what he's doing. If you want to pass this class just do hw & e.c thoroughly.
I took Professor Choy at Brooklyn College for "Thinking Mathematically" and it was overall an easy class. His lectures are a bit boring but I took the time to go home and study the material to receive an A, but if I didn't study I think it would of been much harder. If you are a student that studies then this should deff be an easy class for you.
Choy is really good at presenting the material in a straight forward way. It was fairly easy keeping up throughout the class, even though it was online. However, the class was test heavy, but he would give partial credit to questions you got wrong. Overall a great choice for Calc 3!
Majority of your grade for this class is exams, but they're fair and he does give you credit for your answer if you show your work. I took this class during the Summer 2020 semester, so his exams were on Lumen. Just do the homework, email him for questions, and go to Dolciani tutoring if needed and you'll be fine for this class.
He's so rude. Patience is non existent. Don't know why he became a teacher if he was going to get rabid every time someone asked a question or made a mistake.
His lectures were very monotonous. He walks through a PDF without using a 'pen' to show work. Homework was tough but exams were fair. He provides all recordings and lecture notes. He was good in lecture but was on occasion ill-tempered. I didn't find his homework tips helpful. Careful submitting exam work, he has very particular requirements.
Professor Choy is very knowledgeable but is absolutely bogged down by his unnecessary rudeness and impatience. If you don't know your math identities, its incredibly easy to get super lost. He goes fast, he rudely answers any reasonable questions and expects you to be a mega math nerd, anything less & he'll make you feel stupid
Rude attitude
He's a bit annoying, but he'll grow on you. He expects participation in lectures so you've got to raise your hand, and he does care about his students learning the material.
The worst teacher at hunter. Very rude and makes you feel ignorant for asking reasonable questions. does not teach, just expects students to solve questions. Doest give partial credit. will make you hate yourself. Also trys to be funny but its cringe. Avoid at all costs.
he has a weird teaching style, but i guess it works for some people. calc 2 is a hard class, you gotta study outside either way. don't show up to class spend a couple hours and expect to do good. study up spend around 15 hours studying for each test and you'll be good.
His teaching style is unique, to say the least. Some people like it but definitely not me. Participation is an absolute must. He will not move on unless the question is answered and there were several times we spent most of the class in silence because we were stuck on a problem. His exams are fair tho and he offers extra credit on them.
He has a "unique" teaching style like he WILL WAIT and not give the answer unless someone in the class answers correctly. However, he does give quite a fair test and is lenient in giving partial credit. You even have a review sheet for +5 points on the test. His Lumen, however, is annoying to do, as most of the thing on Lumen is not on the test.
very nice and understanding teacher, makes you want to learn more. very easy exams, just rips questions off lumen
he doesn't teach and waits for someone to answer
Teaching is awful just waits till someone gets the answer. Everyone in class is silent because we are stuck on the problem. He doesn't explain how to solve it and expects everyone to get it. Exams are small but its annoying to try and get the exact answer. But he give +5 for doing the review sheet. Homework is so annoying.
He treats & reads his work like its the torah then proceeds to wait. Do not waste your money and time on this specimen for any math class at hunter.
He is so funny teaches calc 1 rly well. He can get rly passionate and sound mad but thats him joking around. Some people take his jokes too seriously and get offended lol. exams r fair. similar to the review sheet. Study the review sheet and memorize. He gives 5points doing the review sheet.
cool guy but strict
bruh this class is my downfall. He just stares at you in class, waiting for you to give an answer. When you do give an answer and try to explain it, he tells you to stop and says "did I ask?". There are no multiple choice on the exams, and the points system is a little odd. Spend time at the tutoring center and doing homework!!!
he literally will wait as long as he needs to for a correct answer to questions abt concepts HE DOESN'T EXPLAIN. he has a snarky attitude and his review sheets (worth 5 extra points) are easier than the tests, which r all short response. other math prof is much nicer + has easier tests.
He is honestly so caring and a really good person but can come off as cold. He is an amazing professor. His review sheets are the best and help prepare for his exams. Will for sure miss taking this class! Grades very fairly. Love this dude :)
take him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! great
If you see his name for any math course, drop it ASAP. You WILL have to self-teach the entire course & he doesn't genuinely teach the material. He does examples on the board that are stupidly complex and don't even try to ask questions. He'll just tell you "You should already know this." Don't take him unless you're already well-versed in calc.
Probably other students will not agree with me, but he is lowkey funny. He asks his students question about a problem and if no one answers he keeps his silence. This can be irritating, but it always works as students seem to engage in the class. If you are confident with your problem solving skills, you should take him. He doesnt take attendance.
He's an incredibly annoying teacher, and of his jokes are unfunny and almost feels like he's antagonizing the students. I get that humor is subjective, but it almost feels as if his humor is stemming from either a superiority complex or just a lack of care for his students beyond doing his job.
There are soooo many Calc 1 professors at Hunter, there is absolutely no reason to suffer with him. Does not teach, rude, condescending and not effective at teaching math at all. He will stay silent if you don't answer his questions and won't move on with the class. Overall extremely annoying, but his exams are pretty similar to review sheets.
Give extra credit on review sheet and pretty chill. Surprisingly, a professor that actually teach the material rather than just reading off the textbook.
Easy calculus 2 teacher. Review sheets is around 90% of the exam. 5 extra points on exam if you complete review sheet. Lectures are good. He requires someone to answer his questions otherwise he won't move on. This helped with learning the material because it forces you to think instead of just copying. He wears vtuber and anime shirts. W teacher.
He's quite nice. You'll be able to hand in a review sheet for an extra 5 points on each exam. Homework is on Lumen, but he doesn't care too much for it. Exams are straightforward especially if you thoroughly studied the review sheet and old class problems. VERY fair grader.
participate in the class. the test are easy if you study some of the questions are closely related to the topic he teaches in class. DO NOT LEAVE ANY ANSWERS ON TEST BLANK. he will give partial credit but he won't if you have the right answer but don't show your work. nice professor and will teach you well if you try. Beware of scariness upon class
Amazing professor that is strict but teaches you well. Will wait on the whole class to respond. Test are okay if you study. A lot of stuff come from textbooks. Do the test reviews for extra credit (legit life saver). Smart professor very skilled OP :)))
He is going to expect you to know certain concepts already like trig and if no one can answer a question he will just stay silent until someone says the correct answer. He gives 5 points extra credit towards exams if you do the review sheet, and he gives partial credit for questions so try to do everything. I wouldn't take him again though
Not everything was explained to class. Everything had to be his ways. But the class gets better half through it.
My name is Brayhan. Took MK for Calc 1 & 2. He is very good at teaching. Sat 1st row and always engaged. I had a great desire to learn, and so did many of my peers. The professor met us halfway there and it felt like a community. Might come off as harsh at first, just give it your all. Will NOT baby you. Got B+ bc I didn't focus enough at the end.
This professor genuinely has to be the worst professor I ever had. When he asks a question in class he will sit and wait there on his phone or just stare at you until you answer. If you ask him any questions, he will always give you a rude remark. I learned more online than I did in class. Would not recommend him to anyone.
Calculus is difficult
Just want to point out something. You are the worst professors ever in my life at hunter college. Not only you can not teach, you are always vague and you make no sense. You give homeworks that are nothing like the exams. People like you should not be teaching here.
Extremely generous grader, dont leave anything blank!! Dont ask dumb questions or he will be rude (i found it funny). He will sit and wait for an answer to his question- ask him to reword it! Overall he's really funny and a good professor who teaches the material clearly which is all I cared about
He's one of those guys that are so smart they don't understand everyone else is struggling to keep up. He expects us to answer his questions right off the bat, AND WAITS as long as he needs for an answer (up to 20+ min). If he actually taught instead of letting the class sit in silence, he would be decent. save urself and take someone else
In class be prepared to answer questions he will stay silent for the entire cls, longest was probably 20 mins he will fr be on his phone until someone answer it. Don't take him unless you have to. Be prepare to learn most topics urself. The one good thing is that on the exam which are worth 90%(3 and 1 final) it is very similar to the study guide.
Good luck sitting for an entire lecture in silence. This class is the professor showing off just that he knows calc. I would never take him again. Unless you already know calc like the back of your hand, take someone anyone else
I think Professor Choy is fantastic. To engage his students and get them to think, he employs the Socratic method. Both the review assignments, which are worth an additional five test points, and his exams are straightforward and adhere to what he has taught. He focuses on strategies for memorizing calculus techniques.
DO NOT take him, change class if you get him. Self learning, 90% of the overall grade is from exams and 20+ hw questions that take hrs to do only worth 10% and not helpful at all for exams. Will sit in silence for half the class time if no one knows the answer to his questions. Puts up an example and only gives the answer with no explanation to it.
Grades are awarded fairly; tests and finals are given five extra credit points. Students must have a firm grasp of algebra and precalculus and be well-prepared for class in order to succeed in this course, which does not allow the use of calculators. The professor poses questions for students to get you to think about what you are learning.
Terrible professor made me switch majors because of the way he taught he likes to show that he knows calc and we don't well sit in silence for long periods of time because he's waiting for a answer he is rude when talking to student's has attitude and doesn't explain any of his work always says you should know how to do this and I would write more
He's my guy fr. I have nothing but respect for this man.
does not teach well just provides examples and expects us to know everything without explaining concepts properly. ppl need to guess until they get the right answer but even then he does not provide explanations abt how those answers were derived or have others explain. Also has a condescending attitude if you ask questions he considers dumb.
He expects you to know the concepts and half way the question move on to the next stating “you guys can find the answer” “it's easy”, there's a reason people pay for the class to learn . Overall disrespectful towards students when they ask a question when they are confused .
This guy honestly has issues. He has to be the worst math professor ever. He sets you up for failure through the way he teaches. He doesn't like to answer questions from students and he's always rushing through topics. He doesn't care if a student understands the work being taught.
The professor doesn't teach at all and usually sit in silence. His exam study guide does match with the topic but not with the difficulty. Also, he doesn't really teach and stop to make sure his students understand the topic. In addition he is condescending and dismissive and very rude when asking questions. Most of the time it is self studying.
