the test come stright from the notes. he explains all info that you need to know. it is an easy A if you just look over your notes!
TOOK HIM FOR 102, 201 & 202,easy, easy easy take notes and pass!
Very easy, but very boring. I worked crosswords in class and made an A. I have had some great history instructors at SLU, which made this class very disappointing. If you like history and want to have a fun class, do not take Chauvin. Take B. Price or C. Saucier. Their lectures are fantastic!
Exams are scantron. Questions come straight from the notes. A few questions come from the textbook, but he tells you what sections you need to read.
He's a great teacher. You leave the year KNOWING the material and with a decent grade. He doesn't throw lots and lots of facts at you. Instead, he picks big topics and gives you the story behind it. He's a great teacher. If you STRUGGLE with history like I do, I recommend taking Mr. Chauvin.
Love this man! His lectures are memorable so studying is not too difficult. Very little textbook use. He uses videos to keep you interested. Extremely nice. Class attendance is not mandatory.
HE IS A VERY GOOD TEACHER AND I WOULD RECCOMEND HIM TO ANYONE!!!! I HATE HISTORY, BUT WITH HIM...I LOVE IT!!!! HE GETS STRAIGHT TO THE POINT AND TESTS YOU ON ALL THE NOTES!!! TAKE HIM...GO TO CLASS...YOU PASS!!!!!!
I think he is a very intelligent man. However, if you are trying to get an "A" you have to actually study your notes for a duration of time. His tests are challenging and tricky. But, if you study, you can do well. It's definitely not an easy "A" unless you are highly interested in history.
I'll start off with that Munson Chauvin and Tim Chauvin are the same person. He is a good teacher, take all the notes as he tells them cause his exams are a little tricky if you don't know the information. I would take him again.
he is a great teacher. just show up to class pay attention and take good notes and u will do well. however, his tests are long and your entire grade is based on only 4 tests so study at least 4 days in advanced for each test. this class is not for anyone who is lazy. those who do well are those who apply themselves and take time to study
He seems boring at first, but it gets interesting. The tests were difficult if you're not interested in actually learning the history. Notecards with critical thinking questions really helped.
Mr. Munson is a very funny guy. Made class a little more interesting. He is very straight forward. What's on the power point will be on the test. That's it. Take notes how he say them, attend class regularly and study your notes and you will do fine. Great teacher. I'd definitely take him again.
Final is not comprehensive :). Notes are on pp and sometimes have to write in a little extra. Does not give out pp slides. Studied all night before each test and made 94's. Just keep reading over and making smaller and smaller outlines. Know orders of when and who, no dates asked. Makes it interesting. Would def. take again.
I am taking him again from 102. Amazing teacher. His notes are way easy to take. If you go to class you will make an A. Easy great teacher. You actually learn too.
i hate history so of course i wouldnt say i love any history class but seriously this guy is so boring. he isnt funny, and doesnt know how to work microsoft powerpoint. he has tons of mispellings in his slides too. his tests are very strange ther is no consistancy. he jus randomly picks material to put on the 4 tests. and he lost my test one time.
GREAT Teacher! I disliked History prior to his class, now I am so interested I look forward to taking more of his classes!!!
Munson and Tim are the same person for anyone confused, but he's AWESOME! I love his class so much! Easy A. Take him!
I love history. He does a slide show (easy notes) and if you just pay attention to what he says, you don't even have to study. Just amazing. I made 100% A on his first test, and 98% A's on the last two (I studied right before the test on the last two). So, as you can tell, easy.
Idk what the people are talking about under me.I dont like history at all,so i came out his class wit a C. Barley that. Then he say his going to put your extra credit added to your grade n that never happen. He have 4 test my highest test was his map test. All his test are 50 muptile choice and all the answers seem true, but if u kno History take HIM.i

Mr. Chauvin is a really good History teacher. Not everyone is intelligent. However, if you are somewhat interested, attend class and take notes, you will get an A or B. He's not a professor who gives study guides, word for word. But, he gives exceptionally good lectures. Take him. Don't listen to these retards who didn't do anything!!!!!
He is a very good teacher. You have to go to class for notes though. He gives a map test that is an easy A. You MUST take advantage of that.
He is an awesome teacher. He explains everything.REALLY NICE TEACHER.DEFINITELY RECOMMEND HIM!!even if you do not like history he makes it interesting. He gives powerpoint notes which is awesome, watch alot of movies, really easy class. If you go to class, take the notes, and study a little bit you will get an A. He gives study guides.EASY!TAKE HIM DEF.
I'm taking both History 102 and 202 with this guy right now. He is an awesome teacher and really funny. I hate history but I would definitely choose Tim Chauvin again.
Chauvin has been my favorite professor so far. Not only does he know the subject matter but he makes it interesting for the students. His dry sense of humor is great! You MUST go to class for the notes and reading the chapters helps, but I made an A with very little effort and enjoyed the class.
Take him! He is extremely easy, the tests are very simple, and he gives tons of bonus. I had an A, very easily.
Great teacher. holds interest. tests are based off of lectures and are straight forward. there are four tests and attendance is equal to a fifth test. easy class, just pay attention and don't miss a class
Great teacher. Take good notes, get good grade on the test. Tests come exactly from notes, with the exception of a few from video clips or reading assignments. Best history teacher at SELU.
Fabulous teacher. But there is a trick to get an A...You have to put an effort but surely an A..if not then C..Copy his slides... doesn't matter if u don't listen to him. Go home open the book and make note of everything connected to what you copied from slides..study them and you'll get an A for sure.. its all memorization in his class.take him..
Great teacher! Easy notes. He makes difficult information easy. He knows his history. Clearly the best history teacher at SELU.
BEST HISTORY TEACHER HERE !! take his class. the work is easy & the test are easy too. there is no homework to bring in, all you have to do is study and you should do good. he curves the test sometimes too b/c he makes mistakes, so you can get an even higher grade. he explains things clearly and likes to be funny and tell jokes! Take This Class !!
He was a great teacher. Very good at teaching and never threw in anything that you couldnt handle. Makes mistakes on tests, but provides curves. Really nice and funny, always late to class. One of my favorite teachers. TAKE HIM.
His lectures are pretty confusing. You have to really pay attention and know the material to do good on tests. Its hard to make a B on his tests because he words the questions terribly. I wouldn't recommend him. Plus he rambles on about nothing of importance. On the plus side, he's pretty nice and gives out a few bonus points now and then.
He was ok. He is a very dry teacher. I had him late in the afternoon and that was horrible. I needed a bed. His test are very tricky but he always curves them. If you study you should be fine. However, his notes were kind of all over the place at times. Still got an A without much work.
He was FANTASTIC!!! I LOVED the way he taught! He is great and he always makes corny jokes! The only thing I would change is that his test are a little tricky but if you go to class and study, you'll do fine! I made a 100% on the final because it was so easy.
I am taking this course online and am not very pleased with this teacher. He uses a website called Apila to post homework and tests. The site itself is confusing enough and he doesn't help out any either. He doesn't email you to tell you when things are due ever. Good luck and check it every day! I wouldn't recommend him at all.
Awful teacher! Never provided a syllabus. Uses a confusing website called Aplia. Never taught us how to use it. Posts assignments at random. Only alerts you when tests are posted. He does not email you back either. Avoid him if you can!!
this is the worst professor that i have ever had. Do NOT take him. I had to call the department head for him to post his syllabus. Test are NEVER posted on time, and you are given no notice of when homework will he posted. He just emails you the day of and says you have an assignment due today and a few the following days. HE IS HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!
He's a nice guy and always funny, but not a good teacher. His tests are hard and confusing, and he has no idea how to work Moodle except for posting grades. I have all A's right now except for this class; I have a low B. Again, he's a great guy, but don't take him if you don't have too.
Super nice guy. Tests are easy for the most part. No in class assignments or homework. Gave bonus opportunities
okay ... He's funny, I'll give him that. But he is very unorganized, which is why I dropped him before his first exam.
Very Unorganized. Added notes to slideshow in class one time. Teaches differently to different sections but has same test, so find someone in another section. Helped me. Some textbook questions. Gives bonus points for attending meetings throughout semester. SA
Online class was not so bad. Tests were kind of tricky on some questions. Read the chapters for better understanding. Chapters are long but read them to pass quizzes with A. Exams are not bad, but Exam 2 he gave us 60 mins abnd it should have been 75 mins. He does not repond well to email, so take that into consideration if taking him online.
He is one of the best history teachers I have ever had. This class was the easiest I took all semester. He shows powerpoint in the back while giving his lectures. He always messes up on the test he gives, so you wind up getting a lot of points for free on the four test he gives! He is not bad at all. Take him!!!!
He is a good History teacher and his class is really easy. He also messes up on his tests a lot so he gives some pretty big curves. He doesn't respond to email, ever. That gets pretty annoying. He will give bonus points random days in class, if you are there, and all the notes are needed for the tests. He doesn't really put grades in either.
Like other reviewers are saying, Chauvin is highly unorganized, and classes range from him lecturing the whole time or showing a bunch of random videos and letting you out 45 minutes early. But if you don't mind his scatter brain, I definitely recommend. Tests are easy and he's a really funny and chill professor. Great speaking voice, too.
ALWAYS late. DISRESPECTFUL to students. No homework, just 4 tests. doesn't use text book. Heard him tell his graduate students he doesn't prepare for lectures, he just "wings" it. Lectures are FULL. LOTS OF INFO & must know ALL of it to pass. Tests ALWAYS have mistakes. Does not always give promised bonus points. usually an A/B student... got a D.
I took this teacher online for an 8 week term class. He is clear, but lazy. He has the test dates and assignment dates posted, but they always end up changing. He does not respond to emails which can be very frustrating. His test are super easy, but you definitely need to read to pass.
Be ready to write it type bc that's the only thing you do in this class. Follow the PowerPoint presentation. But you have to go to class if you don't you'll be lost bc he explains the harder topics. Tests are exactly like the notes. Look over them one time and you'll make an A. And you get bonus points if you sign a sheet at the farmers market.
I took him for a online class and I wont be taking him again. He is very disorganized but he is a easy teacher. The problem I had was having him change quiz and exam dates last minute. You will get some minor work to do, one quiz and the exam follows two to three days after. That's literally the online class. If you mind a scatter brain take him.
He was unprepared for every class. He edits the powerpoint while were trying to take notes. Tests are easy and just like the notes. He also ends up giving you extra points on the tests, which helps a lot.
Beware that he offers a ton of extra credit but doesn't always give you the points he promised! He's the most scattered brain individual I've ever met. He gives "study guides" before tests and chooses MAYBE five questions from there to put on the test. He also ignores all emails sent to him and skips around during lectures. He is never prepared.
I would like to correct my post. Professor Chauvin did end up putting in the bonus points I earned right before grades were due. I still would not recommend taking him due to how unorganized he is.
His class is all lecture but it is so easy. I took him for Politics and American History and I loved every second. You can honestly teach yourself through the book but it helps to go there every day because he makes the notes into a simple outline. Would take him for every class if I could!
I took him for the online class. You get a few assignments every week, you only had to use the textbook once. The tests are copied almost word for word from the assignments, so just do your work and you'll pass. He gives you links to articles and you get the answers word for word. It's the easiest class I've ever taken!
Not bad as a person, but rambles too much throughout lectures to properly understand material for testing. Does not really remember all learned during notes because PowerPoints are unorganized and notes come from many different ones which confuses the professor. Delayed assignments and jumbled test questions. Most test include info never taught.
tests are based off the lecture and some additional info he'll prob email the class. he's a little disorganized and sometimes edits the powerpoint during class so if that bothers you don't take him. but its an easy class, tests are easy but sometimes a little confusing
Literally creates his powerpoints in class. Very unorganized and made the class harder to understand. Doesn't say what exactly will be on the exams.
This class was really simple. He emailed assignments one-by-one before the test. Each assignment was easy to access and answer; you would either watch a short video or read a small passage in the textbook. The assignments are not graded, but they are the same questions used for the test. Just do the work, they do not take long, and you'll get an A.
I have always been good at history, but he was the worst professor I have ever had. He is extremely unorganized. When he does test review, none of the information he gives you actually applies to the test itself. He did try to help when I asked for it, but for the most part none of his lessons matched his test.
This online class is super easy and straight forward! I didn't find him disorganized at all! I actually found I learned more from this class because I got the information myself for the assignments! Tests are straight from assignments. Around five assignments for each test! All found in the textbook!
His class is strictly lecture, and he does not put notes or powerpoints on Moodle. He is very unprepared for class and is constantly editing his powerpoints during his lectures. It also takes him forever to put in grades and bonus points. He does give bonus opportunities and curves tests, which is nice, and helps your grade tremendously.
You can get an A in this class as long as you do the assignments Mr. Chauvin gives you. The 5 tests come straight from the assignments, though he occasionally tries to trick you. Assignments are answered from the textbook and youtube videos. Super easy class to take online if you are trying to get a History credit. I recommend Mr. Chauvin!
His tests are based on the notes he gives in class so its not a good idea to miss class. Every once in a while hell do a reading assignment, but he gives you the questions that will be on the test from the reading assignment so you basically just have to find the answer to the questions in the book. Very straight forward and approachable.
Easy class, and he is very nice. Class moves at a good pace and material isnt hard. Just 3 tests and final (not cumulative). He is a little disorganized but just show up and take notes. He doesnt put them online. I also had him for poli and same class structure.
Professor Chauvin is a really great history professor! He sometimes changes his powerpoints during class, but overall I don't think he is disorganized. He does give bonus for going to the farmers market on campus and your only grades are the test. The tests come straight from your notes, so go to class and take the notes!
He is a really good teacher Im so glad I took his class for political science. Study and you'll pass. His test aren't difficult, his lectures are from powerpoints which he doesn't put on Moodle. Only 4 tests thats it and sends out assignments before the test that really help and are similar to test questions. Would definitely recommend taking him!!
Test come straight from PowerPoint so get the notes down. Hes chill, laid back, and funny. 3 tests & final (not cumulative). Also shows you example test questions before each test. Solid choice for a history professor. From what I hear about the other history professors, he is much easier than them. Glad I took him so do yourself a favor TAKE HIM!
very very confusing professor nothing is organized and you would think if you have a good idea youll do good but no most of his questions have none of the above or all the above and hes awesome at being always atleast 20 minutes late on exam days so you have less time! and he doesnt review before the test
I took his class for both History 202 and Political Science 201 and loved it. Both classes are the same procedure where the notes are from his power points, so if you miss class you'll have to get them from a friend, gives bonus, and goes over what is going to be on the exams ahead of time. Study and you'll PASS.
Outstanding professor but if you dont show up to class you will not pass. He doesnt send out slides.
Does not answer emails. Makes tests super difficult for no reason. Gives bonus opportunities though
His PowerPoints can be a little confusing to follow and lectures can be a bit monotonous but he's nice and wants you to pass. He does a review the day before the test--DON'T SKIP THESE! He literally goes over questions that will be on the actual test. Doesn't give homework to supplement your grade so make sure to study for those exams!!
He posts PowerPoints and a few videos, and you'll find the answers to his questions sheets and his exams through these. Super easy class, takes up minimal time.
Mr. Chauvin is overall not a bad professor. He clearly presents the information in class and gives you everything you need to succeed. Attendance is not mandatory right now because of COVID because he posts lectures. He is pretty bad at responding to emails but that's it. I liked him and I liked the class.
He writes his own tests and you get a shorter amount of time on them than a regular professor. If you know the stuff though, you should be fine. Average professor overall.
I took his History 101 and 102 online, each on the 8 week course and It went awesome. Wasnt a lot of reading and he gave a study guide and based the tests on it. No assignments though so your grade is strictly the 4 exams. I would definitely take him again though. Extra credit if you turned in the study guides.
The whole class is four tests and a final, questions based 100% on lectures. Test questions are often poorly worded or straight up wrong. Usually unprepared for lectures, changes slides during every class. Even with changes the slides are still super confusing. Honestly just send me the PowerPoint and I could probably do better than being in class.
Had him for a Term 2 class & it was so easy. I spent maybe 30 min/test on the class. He's also aware that sometimes his stuff is outdated, so if you email him and point out that a test answer was wrong/not in the notes, he'll give the whole class the points for it even if you guessed it right so you could possibly get over a 100 on a test.
You're only graded on the exams and it's easy if you study. All he does is lecture and he tends to drone on. If you skip, then you would have to get the notes from a classmate or wait until he posts the PowerPoint a couple of days before the test. He gives no study guides and the videos he plays during class might be on the exam. He'll post them to
Professor Chauvin made history fun and interesting. No outside homework except for 1 time. Super easy tests. Just make sure to take notes and read over them a few times. He also curves tests by a few points. Easy A
The entire class is him lecturing from a powerpoint. Very note heavy. There are 4 tests all written by him. He does give a practice test the day before but not all the questions are on the test, or even similar. If you could take someone else, I would recommend that
He curves exams.
Just wish there were more assignments
The only grades are 4 exams and 4 quizzes, but he curves the exams and the final. The entire class is just lecturing and taking notes, so going to class is a good idea. He gives test questions out the day before the exams and some are on it. He was just a little boring, but he's really sweet. Just go to class and study and you should be fine.
He was a decent professor, nothing bad to say about him. I don't like History, nor am I very good at it, which is why I received the grade I did. He had pretty good lectures and was very knowledgeable.
While you have very few actual grades (being 4 exams + the final), they are all pretty simple as long as you study the PowerPoints and do the readings when they are assigned. Very well-versed on the subject he teaches. He can go on tangents sometimes, but it is nothing terrible. I also really like History so that could factor into this.
There are 4 exams and then the final. Textbook reading questions are important to pay attention to (short and easy). He has a very dry sense of humor which I found hilarious. If you like history you'll love this easy, lecture-based class. He posts his PowerPoints and stuff before the exam so you can study. Very easy and I recommend him.
Prof Chauvin is awesome. I'm taking him again for POLI. Every class is a lecture from his powerpoints that he displays in class. He gives out a study guide for you to fill out and study before each test. 4 tests, drops the lowest. Final test is not cumulative. So many people do not attend and just show for the tests and wonder why they fail.
Munson Chauvin is a good professor if you like to take notes from lectures. All of his classes are that or tests. If you show up regularly and take notes accordingly, you should be able to pass his class with no problem.
he is good, knows what he is talking about. the course is interesting, the only grade you're going to get is the tests. but those are easy if you go to class, take notes, and do the practice questions for the test.
It's simply lectures with slide shows. But he made it very easy to follow, he spoke slowly, and he gave 5 tests and dropped the lowest one.
4 tests before final and he drops the lowest one before the final. He doesn't post slides until day before the exam and he adds textbook questions on the exam that have nothing to do with what we learned. He asks trick questions on exam so you HAVE to know the material. He has added points because he's messed up the exam
I loved him, i'd take him for any history! He lectures alot but the lectures are interesting and he explains everything in depth with even extra information. He only grades exams, and there is 5 exams the final is the fifth which isnt cumulative. He works with his students and gives extra credits if everyone got a tricky question wrong. Easycourse
good lecture's. ppl hate on him because they don't understand material, but tbh it's not possible to make someone understand history other than by giving them the information. Tim's class feels like a convo if you stay engaged. Funny guy. Includes lots of vids and posts slides. Only has test grades, but will drop the lowest one.
I loved him! He is so intelligent and has a great sense of humor (if you're listening and catch the jokes). DO NOT SKIP THE READING and do not skip classes. He will use material from videos on exams as well.
Professor Chauvin was not a bad professor, I enjoyed his class for the most part. At times his questions could be a bit confusing and he was very disorganized but it was not like a super hard class. He knows the material well! Tests can be tricky if you do not study, As long as you look over the sample questions, readings, and notes you're good!
Mr. Chauvin is a great professor. Class consists of 5 exams, while dropping the lowest of the first 4. All tests are based off lectures, so please take notes. If you do that, you will be fine in this class. Mr. Chauvin may seem scary, but he's genuinely a nice person. He does curve all test, somewhere around 4 points. Good luck!
boring but very easy. go to class and pay attention and you'll barely have to study. he's also so nice.
Love him so much!! I love the way he presents material. Like 5 tests and thats it. Attend every lecture and record. You must study. Easy A. Also gives extra credit!! Super great guy!
This class is a very simple class. There are 5 Scantron exams with 50 questions each, he has detailed PowerPoints that are very easy to understand, and the class is formatted very well. He's funny, patient, and direct. My only real complaint is that he expects you to read hundreds of textbook pages for what ends up being only a few questions.
I took Prof. Chauvin for POLI 2000. He's a good professor, just show up to class and you'll do fine. There are only 5 exams (incl. final) in his class, though, and those are his only grades, so it's important to study for the tests. He uses lots of his questions from his study guides and the book, and the final is not cumulative.
Attendance isn't mandatory but if you miss his lectures, he doesn't post them and you will be lost. He also give 4 tests and a final - that's all the grades you'll have in. It's hard to bounce back if you make bad grades on one. Lectures from beginning time to end, and slides are not clear format.
