Very intresting course.
He is soo cute....reminds me of Ari Fleshier. He is clear and makes sense with he speaks about his topics.
OMG he's so adorable! ROFL. It's an easy class to pass too
He's a pretty fair Professor. knowledgeable and enthusiastic about his work.
He is a really easy teacher. If you take good notes and attend all his classes, you are guaranteed to pass. His exams are pretty easy as long as you have a general idea about the readings. The work load for this class is very little... I didn't really
his tests are unfair, he is a boring, balding man. He is a very shy guy.
a ez and interesting class
he's the best!!!!!!!!!!
Hello folks!! HE IS THE BEST AND CUTIE PIE PROF. but he's bald.doesn't matter. his exams are EASY. If u read the chapters. He also gives grade on curve. so Its really easy to get A+
His class might be boring at times, but he is a really good teacher. If you study the chapters, attend his class and participate you'll definitely pass his course.
this guy is so boring, if anyone is having problems falling asleep take this class, and u'll sleep like a baby
wonderful prof. goes over assignment in detail.. attend the class participate a lil, put a little effort in your essay .. show him u care abt ur work.. u get a A+ now is dat hard?
interesting topics and discussions. he just gives papers and they're not too bad. very smart and intellectual prof.
He is a very good professor.
This teacher is amazing, took him as an fyi, didnt expect much, ended up breezing through the class. easy A, tests are the same throughout the years
easiest class everrrr!! highly recommended
He fails to intrigue the class with a topic that should be selling itself in terms of interest. He clearly has a political agenda and expresses his personal beliefs in lectures as factual and unbiased.Take everything he says with a grain of salt and skepticism particularly regarding historical events
Hes a good professor, nice guy, three exams, two papers two pgs in length each, thats all folks!
Very nice professor who is fair and his assignments are easy. An easy A class.
definately hard to pay attention but an easy class. prof is an easy grader, 3 m/c tests and 2 short papers, there are tests floating around, same questions throughout the years
HES EXCELLENT...BUT BORING...READ THE STUFF HE GIVES YOU...AND THE TESTS ARE SOO EASY...YOU CCAN STUDY 2 HOURS BEFORE AND GET 100'S...THE PAPER WAS THE ONLY ANNOYING THING...WAY AT THE END...BUT HES AN EASY GRADER
To say that Halli is the BEST professor at QC would be a definite understatement. He really cares about his students, and encourages them to excell to their full potential. 101 is easy multiple choice (no need to read book, jus stick w/ notes), in 201 and 208 there are no exams just papers. *best*
he's alright you have to do the readings..but when i took the class there was a lot of freshman who cheated so that was breeze through the course cause they got previous exam from pple they know. Well if you're not going to cheat then i guess he'll be alright....not too easy
He is the cutest guy. You can tell that he just loves anthropology so much. plus he cares a lot about queens college and his students. He's just a great individual with a heart of gold.
Man is kool.He is the coolie that wasnt.Hes fair, too nice for the lil cracks that he has to teach, but I am grateful for what I learned from him.Do your stuff and u have nothing to worry about.
Very nice professor. He cares about his students very much and is willing to help in any way he can. Class can be a little boring at times, but that is probably related to the subject material. Very fair grader.
Halliburton is very liberal and a anti-American. Mixes education with political activism and personal views about social issues. IF you're looking forward to learn about anthropology look elsewhere. If you want to hear a guy badmouth the U.S. and disseminate extremely liberal views, take it.
Professor Halliburton is an excellent Anthropology professor. No exams. Instead, there are 4 papers, 2 creative writing assignments and class participation is also taken into consideration. He shows videos and shares his own research slides with the class. You will come out gaining a lot of knowledge for South Asian culture. Highly recommended.
About the folks who mention that you can cheat on his exams: if you need to cheat for him, then something is UP. He was very fair, patient and gave helpful comments on his papers. He's really a nice guy-you'd really have to push his buttons to fail or piss him off.
although he is a liberal and "anti-american" he hears and does not judge opposite opinion nor does he grade you wrongly for it. If you participate in class your grade will go up. Keep up with the reading and pay attention to his notes in class.
While he does have what some call "liberal" views, he does NOT push them. In fact, anthro 101 is ALL ABOUT different perspectives; he always tries to flesh out students' own opinions, and tries to get students to think for themselves. Very nice. Tests are easy, and easily graded. Textbook author Richard Robbins was in movie "The Yes Men."
never really went to his classes but his tests r easy especially since cheating is really easy and he's just a really sweet guy also i would def take him again
I've had Dr. Halliburton THREE times! Made me LOVE Medical Anthropology. His lectures and slide presentations are interesting and grades the 4 papers he assigns very fairly with useful comments. There is a final research project involved in this class as well. Class participations counts, so it's important to attend class. Very highly recommended.
He looks like a werewolf: His tests are repeated. Make sure you get them so you are guaranteed an A+ for doing absolutely nothing!
Like this class. Readings are interesting. You do an oral presentation on a reading. Have to write 4 papers on readings. Watched a couple of documentaries in class. Overall a great class. Summer 06
Prof. Halliburton is very sweet & really cares abt his students. Always available outside of class & willing to work w/u if you have any problems. A lot of work though for this course. 4 papers (5 pp. each) on each book and a final project of ur choice with an in-class presentation. Make sure you participate in class discussions. Interesting class.
this seminar class was interesting but at times it was very boring. interesting topics and really helpful when u ask him about ur final research paper. short class presentation on an article that u choose and u also have to present ur final paper. interesting class but at times the articles can be very boring and class lectures can be boring too.
He is a very good professor. Extremely intelligent and passionate about what he teaches. I loved the class, I found it to be very eye opening. Attendance isn't mandatory, however I don't see how anyone could do well without attending. The exams are tough and test your understanding. But if you show up and pay attention you can do well.
this guy is very unfair when it comes to grading. you have to read about 4 thick books and in some cases role play and take about a particular book. you have like 5 or 6 papers to write for him. he is also a nice guy but he is very unfair at grading. dont expect a high grade from him. he is very knowledgable about the east especially india
Very good teacher who relates his fieldwork in india to the themes of the course in an organized, interesting manner. Very fair grader as long as you know how to write college level essays and read the texts. You play a game for first 4 weeks of semester which is very fun. beats the usual lecture and discussion you get in every other class. TAKE!
Haliburton is the man! He is a very good professor and tries to engage the class in the discussion. Overall, to get an A in the course you must must attend lecture (although it is not mandatory) but he does put lots of test questions from lecture. Take good notes, I always study 3 hours before the exam and pass with A's :)
This is not an easy class. There is a lot of reading to be done from the reader and the textbook. There are 2 short papers and 3 exams. The papers were easy but the exams were definitely challenging. If you happen to take this class, I suggest going to every class, take detailed notes, and really read the textbook and the reader to do well.
Great prof. YOU MUST READ, or you will prob fail. most of the lecture and tests are from the reading. the tests are eaassy and so were the papers. the class is pretty boring, but you should participate, i did, he really liked that. don't take if you don't want to read boring stuff, most of it is. but a good prof all the way.
A good professor. We read 5 books. You HAVE to read to pass. We did 3 papers, 3 short quizzes, and a short presentation. Deff participate and really try writing your papers good, and READ the books, and you'll be fine. Overall the class was pretty good. The books weren't THAT boring. But yea, he's a nice professor.
Great professors if your interested in cultural anthropology. Straightfoward class, 5 Books, 3 easy multiple choice quizes(as long as you read, you're good) and 3 papers that you know well in advance.
He is awesome! He's a sweet, soft spoken guy who LOVES what he does. Completely willing to help, doesn't overload with work, and is open to all opinion. Two 3 page papers and three 4 page papers. Evenly spaced out, all on topics that, when thought about analytically, you could go on for days about.
hes really nice but kinda confusing on what he wants- tests are soooo specific but if you reread everything before the test you can do well
Lot's of reading. Tests are hard. Doesn't grade papers. He says the tests are "general" but they end up being specific and impossible. Nice guy though.
Tests are hard. Not helpful with review. Doesn't grade essays only gives a check mark. Don't take him if you want an easy A or B...
He's a really nice guy. Super soft spoken but I feel like that puts a lot of kids to sleep. If you read the book and takes some kind of notes in his class, you'll pass.
very nice and understanding. classwork is easy, only 3 tests and 2 short papers. kind of boring tho. u can get away with not reading the chapters if you attend class regularly and take notes.
The instructor was not clear when it came to his assignments. He would go over different material and then test the students on something completely different. His test were so hard! he wouldn't put any material he would reviewed in class. His teacher ways are bad! he just lectures and is so boring! i would not recommend taking this professor
Boring as hell. You can get away with never showing up to class as long as you keep up with the readings and chapters on the syllabus. Only three exams and one short paper that is fairly easy. However, he is extremely boring and reads from the textbook sometimes.
You don't need to go to class to pass, he literally just went over everything from the assigned reading. Not interesting at all. He assigns reading for every class and one short paper and a group project. Both are pass or fail - the group project is presented through video so it isn't hard. Tests are easy all of them were multiple choice.
I really enjoyed this professor. He is very passionate about his field and extremely knowledgable. As long as you do the readings you will be fine. The exams were not cumulative. Absolutely one of my favorite classes. This professor is fuil of amazing bits and pieces pertaining to this field
My biggest problem is that he doesn't teach. Every single class is someone doing a presentation on the reading and he gives his feedback at the end. No tests. Need to attend class to pass. Definitely have to buy the textbook but he has you buy an older version so you save a lot of money.
He's very passionate about the material. He's a little monotonous himself and doesn't breathe life into the material but he does allow good class discussion to be facilitated. Do the reading and you will have no problem with the papers. Be on time and participate often.
First off, Professor Halliburton is a genuinely nice person who's there to help you if ever you may need it. BUT, for this class, there's always an article to read and rather than lectures, there are class discussions led by classmates. There are also 3 papers based on the readings, a discussion you lead for the day, & a genealogy slide.
Overall, Prof. Halliburton wasn't a bad professor, but he wasn't amazing either. His lectures are very long and sometimes boring because of his monotone voice. It's not a bad class to take though, just prepare to do the readings and participate in the class discussions every once in a while. He doesn't give study guides for exams either.
His lectures are SUPER long and boring. Gives reading packet that you must purchase to do readings on, along with textbook material. No Powerpoints, if you're that kind of student that enjoys them. Grade is based on group project that you present via recorded video presentation, 1 paper and tests.
His tests are all multiple choice but you have to go to class to pass. He takes attendance every day and take notes of what he says. Easy to cheat. Three tests- not cumulative. VERY LOOOOONGGGG readings.. but what he says in class is what you mainly need to know. He's an okay professor, kind of puts you to sleep. Boring articles and chapters.
do not take this class. he is a nice guy but the class is too boring for any one to pay attention and if you cant pay attention you wont do well on tests. no reviews for tests, not clear on how he wants you to know the material. just dont do it
Do not take this class. Prof Halliburton is super nice guy but puts you to sleep. His class makes absolutely no sense,he does not say cohesive sentences and no information in the class connects or is relevant to anything about anything. His tests are super confusing and the class is painfully slow. AVOID.
Prof. Halliburton is a nice guy and if you put a little effort into his class, you should do fine. His class can feel long sometimes, but the material is interesting. Disheartening to see how many people cheat on his tests. Its pretty obvious so many people cheat, and this will frustrate any ethical person. MC tests can be a little tricky though
He is a very nice person, he is willing to help the student who left behind if you talk to him. NOT good for second language student because of lots of readings. The text was tricky, need to find the MOST appropriate answer. Avoid him if English is your second language.
I thought he's an amazing professor. I worked so hard in this class. Received grade in B for all exams and still ended up with C+ I am an honor student. He ruined my GPA horribly. I am not going to recommend him to anyone. He's not helpful at all. Avoid at all cost. Exams are crazy hard. Save your GPA by taking someone else.
The most boring class I've ever taken. Doesn't help you do well on test- no review. I highly do not recommend.
Interesting course. There is a lot of reading and it is often very difficult. Overall an easy grader, but the class can be tedious.
I happen to LOVE professor Halliburton. The readings he assigns are really interesting and requires everyone to participate by having discussion leaders for each text we read throughout the semester. Sometimes the readings are long, but I still think this is my favorite class this semester. He is very caring about his students and encourages you!
gpa ruiner. If you like reading 45 million pages a night, take him.
His lectures are very interesting as the material is also interesting. There is a lot of reading, but honestly if you do your work and participate it will be an easy A. He is a pretty good teacher and he is really knowledgeable in his field. The lectures can get boring but so do all lectures. I would still recommend him to anyone.
Honestly despite how many pages you'll end up printing out for this class, it really wasn't a hard class. You just really have to be on top of your notes. Take good notes and just review over your notes for the midterm and the final; you'll pass.
He is literally one of the worst professors I have ever taken, reads everything directly off a textbook and spends an whole hour talking to himself. He has close to no interaction with the students, and speaks in such a monotone voice putting everyone to sleep. Definitely suggest to not take him under any circumstances.
A lots of readings.
This proffers class is excruciatingly boring. It is painful to sit through the whole class. On top of that he goes off topic a lot and starts talking about irrelevant things, I still dont know what were learning about. He doesnt review either which is actually the worst part of all. He doesnt have any review sessions for the exam. I hate it.
He is the most boring professor do not take his class. He doesnt give any notes during lecture so you have nothing to study for the tests. he talks in a low monotone voice. His readings are Phd Level and impossible to understand. assignments are easy. tests super hard multiple choice & no review so u go in blind and fail
I have mental break downs b/c of this class.... anyway he's gives no review or study guides so it up to you to do well by reading a million pages in the textbook and articles.
Textbook is needed for this class and its around $70 if you get the hard copy we get 3 exams He makes us do readings he gives no slides all he does is talk and go on extra credit is participation Hes probably the worst professor I have so far
Professor Halliburton is a pretty chill guy. His lectures are boring and just talks about the topics/readings that you are suppose to have knowledge about. Just have the required book and teach yourself the material to pass the exams, you'll survive.
Extremely boring, monotone lectures and very little interaction with students. Only take this class if you can manage to stay awake through really boring lectures
If you have insomnia, this is the class for you. Professor H will not fail to put you to sleep. I could have taught this class myself and made it more interesting if given the resources and the time to prepare. I would rather have someone who knows less but can teach better. His Jesus looking assistant on the other hand, is way more interesting.
ok don't get me wrong he is a really nice guy and is available outside of his lecture, but do yourself a favor and do not take this class!! the lecture is so so boring, and the tests are honestly tricky. he doesn't try to trick you on the test but it was always down to two answers that both seemed correct. overall don't take it, he is very nice tho
This professor is very knowledgeable in his field. This is an easy class as long as you read the textbook and the articles. That said, there are a LOT of readings. He urges students to participate but very few do. It is easy to fall asleep in his class as his voice is monotone. There are no exam reviews but read the material and you will pass.
He is very knowledgeable about this class and the readings he picked for the class. the readings are extremely long and so are the textbook chapters. make sure u read the chapters and u will pass. his test are easy. definitely recommend his class
nice guy; lots of readings and big on grammar. professor is a good academic scholar. boring ,if you want a easy grade definitely not for everybody.
Boring
At first, I didn't enjoy this class and thought at one point that I would fail, but after receiving my first exam back, I realized it was common sense. LISTEN DURING LEC!!! His exams (3 including final) are vocab terms that he writes down and the main idea of the readings that we have. No need to read tbh because he explains it in the next class.
Very knowledgeable and helpful. Class participants is important. One of the best profs I've ever had.
3 tests, 2 short papers (one required us to go to a film festival in Manhattan). requires a lot of reading, about a chapter and an article a week. Gives an overall understanding of Cultural Anthropology and it's history. Need to take notes, there are no power points, just lecture. Wants participation and he curved all the tests.
Had prof Halliburton for anth101 in fall 2019 There are a lot of readings & he goes over them in class. His lectures can seem dull at times but he does try to engage class in discussion. We had a class w over 200 students & when students said it was hard to hear him at times he got a mic so it was easier for students to hear him. Overall a nice guy
Hated this class, one of my worst class taken at queens college
This class was very informative. Classes consisted of doing the readings and talking about them in lectures. There were 3 papers and 10 short summaries of the reading. Pretty straightforward class. Not challenging. Would take it again.
The class was heavy on discussions and reading so you have to show up. 9 discussion post and 3 papers thats all there is. He really knows his information and is willing to help you throughout the process in order to better understand the readings. The readings were a bit challenging but they are interesting. overall I would recommend to take.
He's nice, but he definitely can't teach. His lectures are just rambling about stuff we already know and he doesn't have any notes for us to take. He expects us to get all the knowledge from reading articles, which is ludicrous. Then we have tests about this stuff after no notes?? Unbelievable
Do not take this professor, he doesn't provide slides, no review sheets, and his voice is so monotone that if you sit far enough you won't hear him. It's 3 exams, and one discussion post. There is no guide onto how to handle his class. If you don't want to cry or suffer, don't take this class. Save yourself from failure.
Just be prepared to read textbook chapters. Half the class was just textbook content but the textbook had many interestingstories. Lectures were really useful and topics mentioned in the lectures were on the test. Open office hours, I went there (once) but had a good time catching up on Azante Witchcraft after missing a lesson due to a cold.
Starting off, he doesn't allow any kind of electronics in the classroom (not even a laptop to do your notes or a virtual PDF of the textbook). Very boring lectures, and most of the work is reading and vocabulary words. But anything learned (besides test times) can be done on your own anyway.
He does not allow electronics in the classroom which is difficult since most students bring laptops in to read the textbook, but no you had to have the textbook in physical copy. He grades based on 3 tests + the final plus the lecture was extremely boring. He did not really teach anything we only went over vocabulary. This class RUINED my GPA!!!!!!
doesn't post anything other than supplemental readings so absolutely come to class if you can. new reading required every lecture to understand class content (which WILL be on exams.) contrary to previous ratings, he has recently introduced the ability to use tech in class. good grader, ok lecturer, some curves and extra credit opportunities
If you like your sanity, then don't take this class. This prof is super boring and gives no slides. He gives 0 preparation for his exams too (no mock exams or anything of that sort), he just kinda expects you to teach the material to yourself with the enormous amount of readings that he posts on bright space. At least he allows computers now.
Professor Murphy is best and I recommend to yall taking him and they no exam just 3 writing paper! I am very impressed how well I go to pass his classes.
All his readings are in Brightspace. He will open up a document and present it on the board. Writes down terms but never the definition/meaning on it. His lectures requires you to pay a lot of attention because he will TALK A LOT. No open book exams. The exams are usually about the readings. He doesn't like electronics. Be careful of his exams.
I don't recommend him at all and he is so threaten your gpa and never change grade if u got D
Snooze fest, boring asf. Readings are extremely long and uninteresting, spends all class time showing a movie or yaps. Class was large, so was able to use laptop in class, but I know in his smaller classes he doesn't allow them. He falsely accused students across all his classes of using AI because writing was 'too good'. Kinda easy, but boring.
I am say don't recommend yall taking Anth 208w class and it worst I ever go to today and he assign too much work and I had to drop today!

I am excited for professor Murphy classes and he is good prof!
He is best prof I ever had and I am tell yall and pls taking him! He give alot of advice to his student!
He's a alright teacher, the lectures are so boring, so annoying to get through. He just talks the whole time, he reads off books. He also just pulls up a word doc, writes down one word or two. Repeat for whole semester.
Pls don't get
Pls don't get hate on him and he is amazing professor! For yall! Already give hate on him! He is so good professor and he will help u more! Don't drop him!
Pls join his classes next semester and if u go to taking him! He is awesome and he does email student very fast! But he give advice for transfer student to not taking his class again and do it another college.
I wouldn't be surprised if hes in an unhappy marriage.
He is best professor I ever had for yall and pls have him and he is so sweet and nice & he will give u a lot of advice about how to passed his classes!
He is amazing professor and I would have him again but when I
I love this prof and he is so amazing and would have him again next sem but unfortunately I transfer college this semester. I am taking another classes in my new college next sem. Pls do taking him and be his fav student & go to office hour more!
He is one best professor I ever had and he is so sweet and nice to me! First time I visited him and he was the cute pie ever I had
First semester here, he isn't bad. He only gets boring if you don't read the textbooks provided and participate in class. You determine the outcome of the class. Just a bunch of reading and discussing the main point. Can get boring at time I gotta admit but isn't bad. Instructions are clear as day and reminders tend to be too oftenoverall he cares
