Wonderful teacher. His class is very enjoyable because he is very funny and engaging when he lectures. There is also a very fun, interactive atmosphere in his classroom. He will work with you in any way he can to ensure your success. My favorite.

Very interesting teacher! Offers a lot in his class and is very helpful, even for those who hate English. He does give pop quizes occastionally, but pay attention and you will do fine. He is about 5-10 min. late to every class, but does try to make up for it. I liked him so much I took him for both Eng. comp clases and made A's. He's awesome!

A little difficult in the grammer area, but if you took comp 1 you should know it. problem is I had a poor grammer teacher for comp 1 beforer I took his class. Its best if you take him for comp 1 and 2. If your intersted and pay attention you'll have fun if not you'll probably hate it. He is funny and intersting too.

As long as you put forth the effort required you'll do well. He doesn't hand out A's but they're far from impossible to get in his classes.

His explainations are easily understood. However, he will still bring it down a notch if needed and help you one-on-one. Dr. Fortners love of instilling knowledge and observing the development of his students is what makes him an excellent role model and teacher.

I had him for 1301,1302, Soci 1301. He's fun and he's all about sociology. His English class is not that tough. His test are not tough. In Sociology you really have to read to be able to do good in class. Start a study group and go through the questions that he gives in lecture and you will pass his test.

Every class is interesting. He makes you view the world in a different way. My only complain is that he rarely actually lectured; mostly, he just read a review for the test. It's easy to do well on the tests, though. I wish he taught more classes so I could take him again.

He was one of the greatest professors I have ever had! He's funny, he has really good jokes and he helps the community with the FOCUS programs he's built up. But in class wise, he is a really great teacher and pretty lenient with things.

Fortner LOVES what he does and he takes interest in each of his students. He grades easy on his papers and there is never a test. Just a few quizzes. If you go to class 90% of the time and pay attention to the little hints he gives you will get an A.

Everyone can learn from this class. Kind of like getting taught from a very laid back Carl from Family Matters. Cool relaxed class, mostly involves him talking about social problems, and people discussing their views. People learning from each other. If you take this please, please be respectful of others=that way everyone will enjoy coming.

I had Dr. Fortner for English, now taking his sociology class. He has taut us so many subjects we were not aware of that we should have known. He has opened our mind to knowledge that will benefit us in the future.

Took him for Comp 1, 2, and Sociology. He is a VERY good teacher but his Sociology class is VERY involved and requires some independent thinking. His tests are easy, he even gives you questions right off the test! Just read the book, come to class, do the essay, and you'll be fine :)

AMAZING teacher. I took him for a wintermester, and it was such a great experience. He does value independent thought, and really gets his students to think outside their box. Great professor! Funny and related the subject matter to real life. When our original professor was fired, Fortner stepped in and caught our class up on 9 chapters and a research paper in only 6 weeks!

I liked him, but he LOVES himself! The class was pretty easy. I enjoyed his lectures, but he tested over the book and didn't teach anything out of the book, which I didn't like. little homework, grades were based off of tests and one writing assignment. (big writing assignment!)

Professor has a great deal of passion for Sociology, which is nice. The final paper is a bit of a beast, so be sure to schedule time to write it. Despite what the prof says, he is looking for QUANTITY here on the research paper. Also, does not spend enough time on tested material during class. If you do not study the book closely, you fail.

I appreciated that he stayed with the book because it is too easy to give your political opinions and biases in a sociology class. That's why you buy the book. He doesn't love himself. He loves his work. Some of us just don't get it. I am glad to have had him.

He has a research paper which makes other class research papers seem small in comparison. Grades tough on paper! His class very very easy! My experience was; show up, take notes, listen to funny stories about his life. He only gave one homework assignment and then the research paper and oral report at the end. His exams were verbatim from the text book most of the time. Fun guy!

Took him for maymester course best decision!! extremely interesting and nice. we had 5 exams and 1 report. Gave us exactly what will be on the test for every exam. This class should be mandatory for all students because it's presented in a way by Professor Fortner that is unobtrusive but allows students to be exposed to sociology on a small scale in a classroom setting. He truly cares about his students and has designed the class so that every student passes. He is inspirational and is a talented Professor. As long as you memorize them, there's no way you won't get an A. He says you need the book, but honestly all the answers on the study guides can be found online. I never use the book

I was sad to be done with this class. Dr. Founter is awesome, tests come from the reviews he gives and in order.. and had a project. Finished with an 89 but I worked hard and meet with him, he end up given me an A. He teaches by making you think instead of you being given, and I saw shocked. Truly enjoyable and always looked forward to class.

Great teacher, you'll really enjoy his class and learn a lot. He cares about his students, wants them to do well, but he wants you to work for it. Make sure you read the txt book and do the study guides if you want to pass his class. It's advisable that you come to every class, key points in the class discussion will be the extra credit.

I enjoyed taking this class online. Professor Murray provided an easy outline of homework and tests. Your homework and tests are through Connect Smartbook ( all online and no textbook). Homework 14 assignments, 4 Unit discussions, 5 test, 4 extra credit options at the end of semester and no final. I recommend this professor.

I've taken both of Dr. Fortner's Sociology courses. Out of every teacher or professor I've ever had, he has made the biggest impact on me. Read the book, do the study guides and approach the project with enthusiasm and you'll excel. Content is interesting for non-Sociology majors and Dr. Fortner is engaging in his lectures. Can't recommend enough!

I took this class online and made an easy A. There is a lot of reading, but if you get used to the kinds of questions on the test, it's easy. The syllabus is very well organized with all the assignments and due dates. He gives great feedback and will answer your emails promptly.

SHOW UP. He gives extra credit on every test based upon thing's he's showed in lecture. Easily the most entertaining class I've taken at TCC. His motto is "I'm not here to tell you what to think, I'm here to tell you what to think "about"". Seriously one of the best professors at TCC, has so much knowledge and life experience. Tests are easy!

When I first met Dr. Fortner, I was a high-school drop out, working full time as a mechanic, with no idea where I was going. Dr. Fortner changed my life. He opened my mind to understanding people and the world, he instilled in me a love of education, and he persuaded me to pursue the study of law. Today, I am a lawyer, thanks to Dr. Fortner.

Even though I took this professor online, I would take him again. He was very clear on what was expected and for a summer class it was a breeze, then again I liked the subjects that we read about. You do have homework but it is not something that will take you a long time. He also communicates well with you if you have any problems.

Even if ur not interested in sociology. You will be! his grading criteria is clear read the book(which is not horrible) and you will pass because he basically goes over everything in the tests. for the paper do it with a partner or a group it makes it easier. (PSA there's a presentation for the paper)

This class was straightforward and pretty easy. I took this class online and the book was also online. Assignments were online through McGraw Hill connect. Tests were a little difficult but very doable. I got an A in the class. Would recommend.

Best sociology professor there is. All you have to do is show up for class, pay attention to his hilarious and insightful lectures, and study a little bit and you will make an A. Makes you want to wake up early and go to school, just so you won't miss his class. If you miss a few classes you will still be fine though.

The syllabus outlines all due dates as well as rules and expectations. That is the absolute go by for the entire class. The students have a super clear understanding of the work and deadlines. Easy class as long as you plan you chapter reading accordingly.

Took professor Fortner online. Very organized with the syllabus and his discussion boards aren't boring. The tests were pretty much what you cover in every chapter. Gives you a very reasonable time to complete each module. Highly recommend him!

This class is just what I was looking for. It helped me open my mind. Dr. Fortner is hilarious and I enjoyed attending his class. I also appreciated that he was very timely with test grades. In most cases, we received grades within an hour or less. I loved that.

Great professor. Really great lectures on life and gaining knowledge. Definitely take his class.

Dr. Murray Fortner is the best. After having to drop out of another class because the professor just didn't care, I feel like I hit a stroke of luck by finding this class. He is REAL, intelligent, humorous, caring, I can't say enough good things about this man. Show up to class, do the study guides and read. Take his class, you won't regret it.

Ive taken him for social problems and intro to sociology. Probably the best professor Ive ever taken. He gave me direction in my career choice and was always willing to help whether academic or professional. Easy tests, interesting book, great lectures, and a great human being.

I took Dr. Fortner for Sociology & he is one of my favorite professors I've ever had. His lectures are interesting & he loves to engage with the class. He's funny and has great stories to tell that help you connect what he is teaching to real life. He gives out test reviews which make studying very easy. Test questions come straight from the book.

Took this class online. Very few assignments due. Mostly just reading but you get participation grade for following along with online text book and answering questions with each chapter. 4 discussion boards (word count matters!!!) 4 tests and a final.

Dr. Fortner is probably the best professor I have ever had. He cares for every one of his students, and it shows. He provides everything you need to do well in his class. Read the chapters and you will excel in his class. He is very aware of the world and it is clear he wants to pass that knowledge onto his students. I highly recommend his class.

Dr. Fortner is Amazing! I had this class online and the material was so very organized. He requires you to sign into Access Connect Smartbook (E-book) so you will primarily do your assignments this way. Assignments are easy to understand. The unit Test and assignments are due within 2 to 3wks time frame. He responds to emails and very encouraging!

Dr. Fortner is a gem! He is non-biased in his lectures (I believe this is very difficult in our social climate) and he dives right into the sensitive subjects openly. He is very clear what to study (gives good study guides). JUST DO THE WORK! 5 tests, a group paper (everyone in your group gets the same grade), and a presentation (part of paper).

Fortner is extremely inclusive and patient with students. Pay attention to the syllabus and do your reading! With efficient and effective lectures, he will exceed your expectations and greatly build your confidence as a writer. Not to mention he started a non profit and is passionate about helping youth and elders :)

Dr. Fortner was an absolute blast to have as an English teacher. Summer class was super condensed so he didn't get a lot of time to explain or teach what the quizzes were over. You definitely need to participate in his class! He is a tough but fair grader and acknowledges hard work. Very funny and caring. Highly recommend!

Dr. Fortner is one of the best teachers I have ever had. He's also hilarious and makes his class fun to go to (I look forward to it every week). He does expect that you read and take it seriously, but is a fair man and will work with you if you're struggling for some reason. Take this man's classes! He's amazing!

He is by far the best professor Ive ever had. He really cares about his students and takes time to listen to each individual student. His lectures are great and if you attend the lectures and put in a hint of work. Youll pass. I would take any class that he teaches.

Hes a good one just make sure to come to class and read the chapters. All of the tests are right off of the study guide. Its a really fun class, you meet a lot of interesting people.

Mr Fortner is a professor that everyone needs throughout their college experience. Although I really struggle with test to the point of being on the edge of passing his class, due to my efforts, I would've taken him again even if I failed it. I will probably find a class that he teaches and take it as an elective because thats how good he is.

I really wish I was able to take Dr. Fortner in person! I haven't been in school for 13 years and had a hard time understanding some concepts. I reached out to him and we talked over the phone. He was super cool and he really helped me understand. The reading is not overwhelming, it's completely doable. He grades fair. Some questions are implied.

This class was super easy, there is a required textbook, but it is online and all of the assignments are online too. He was super nice, we had three discussion boards that were easy. Take this class you won't regret it.

Super simple. Nice teacher, gives you PLENTY of time to get work done as in 3 weeks. Sends reminders when due dates are close. Does not require a whole lot- 3 discussion boards, 5 units of McGraw Hill textbook questions, and 5 unit tests, and one optional extra credit. Quizzes do not require a proctor and are open note. No reason not to pass!

Professor was amazing. He lectures in modern day issues and talks about things that you can use outside of class. In another class we talked about Media in Politics and I completely forgot we had a quiz but I got an A because I used my learning from this class. I would take this class again and have been inspires to take Social Problems next term.
