This class has a very interesting way of getting grades. As long as you do the homework though you will get an A in the class.
Brother Hunt is a very experienced and knowledgeable teacher. There is a lot of hard work in the class, but it is an advanced class, so this is expected. He breaks up assignments in a way that makes them easier to handle and it's not as overwhelming. I would take him again and he is highly recommended by me.
Brother Hunt was one of the best English teachers I have ever had. His class is difficult; we had to write a couple 15-20 page essays and two other shorter ones, but it is so worth it. He has a great sense of humor and really pushes his students to learn more about thinking for themselves. I would definitely recommend taking any class from him!
Absolutely loved ENG 301 with Brother Murray. He is an excellent advanced-language course teacher. The class is focused on learning how to think. Assignments may seem too plain and abstract; however, each one has a purpose. He is absolutely hilarious! Moreover, Brother Murray has a realistic approach to life and teaching. FYI: he is a philosopher.
He is a fun teacher.
There are a lot of readings in the class, but they are very helpful for completing the class. His criteria is posted on the website, and is very clear. If make your papers according to the criteria it will help you in the class. Although there may be a lot of homework, it helps you learn and master writing and thinking.
If I had to pick between doing a regular writing class and a philosophical critical thinking English class, I would pick the second choice any day. His class is one of the best English classes I have ever had. He cares, and he makes it fun. He challenges you to think. Not to mention thought experiments and sin offerings.
Very understanding, has an amazing late work policy. Does require students to preform at a professional level. However, does not reward perfectionism. If you want an "A" grade you can work hard for it and will get it. No exams, just papers. Class is always fun, if you want help on anything he will bend over backwards to help you. Great professor!
Brother Hunt (Murry), who can be liberal (not in the political sense) concerning class policies, requires no more than whatever a true, disciplined scholar should require from an effective and successful course. He provides an amiable environment for discussion; however, if a student wants to be successful in his class, that student must work.
I loved this class! I was nervous about taking it but I honestly felt that I learned a lot and it was worth my time. The work is purposeful and manageable if you keep on top of things. Brother Hunt is a great teacher and helps you become a better writer. Classes are optional on Wednesdays.
Brother Hunt is great! He makes class fun and he makes it easy to want to learn. He provides a commercial break each class, which is nice. The only thing that would make this class hard is not doing the homework. Language classes require effort, and he expects his students to put in that effort if they want to do well. He is an awesome teacher!
Super awesome teacher. He actually makes a topic as boring as English fun to learn about. Take him. You work the hardest during the middle of the semester, and things slim down a little towards the end. You learn to think really deeply and understand concepts. He learns every students name and is super funny!
Do you want the chance to actually learn something that will pertain to life outside of this course? Then take Brother Murray's class! Do you want to gain a greater knowledge you didn't know was possible? Then take Brother Murray's class! Do you want to accomplish things you never knew you could? Then take Brother Murray's class! But give effort!
Brother Murray, as he refers to himself, is fantastic. Though a bit eccentric, he is extremely knowledgeable and helps to bring out the brilliance in any student who'll pay attention and contribute to the class conversation. He's also very merciful and willing to work with you if you're struggling/behind. 5 stars, would rec.
Brother Hunt is so funny in his classes. He really cares about his students. He has commercial breaks in class that make you laugh. His thought experiments are so fun. He really is the most professionally skilled teacher I have had in an English department. He teaches you how to critically think. He makes you earn your A-grade.
He's a lot like Socrates. A lot of people get irritated by him, and he might test your patience at times with his quirkiness, but that's part of why he's a gem: every part of him, conscious and unconscious, gets you really thinking, and you come away more whole. But most importantly, he CARES immensely about his classes and students.
Extremely clear with the requirements. From day one you know what is required in the class. He is very understanding, and allows makeup work. Papers are mostly peer graded.
Brother Murray is an awesome teacher if you are willing to work and learn from him. You write quite a bit but he breaks it up so you don't even realize you wrote how much you did until it's actually due. He makes you work for the grade you want. I would definitely take Brother Murrays class again. He is also a super fun teacher.
Wonderful professor. Very good at making writing fun. He is funny-the first day of class someone implied he was old and he did a somersault just to prove he wasn't old. His grading system is different, but it makes the focus of the class about writing well and not about getting a grade. I would love to take another class from him if I could.
Ever wondered how the Church Leaders ever achieved "Master Literary Writer and Analysis" status? They probably took this class here with Brother Murray. If you want to 'actually learn' how to write in a sophisticated world, and a very simple way to bust out that 20 page research paper in an eloquent way, take this teacher. You will EARN your grade!
Brother Murray is a genius & he knows it. This class has helped change my life, no joke. There is a lot of writing/homework, but it's easier once you break it down. His lectures are hilarious, & he's always available outside of class for some help. His class is set up well, he keeps things fun & entertaining while filling our heads with knowledge.
Brother Hunt cares about his students. He cares about the learning of his students and teaches ways that English applies in the real world. He is very easy going, yet passionate about your learning. You can feel his disappointment if you fail to do an assignment or not live up to your potential. He motivates and inspires you to become your best.
He is a great teacher if you are willing to learn and to follow his lead, there is always treats and opportunities to grow in English and become a better writer and thinker.
Brother Hunt is so awesome!!!)) He is so hilarious and I absolutly enjoyed his class. I learned a ton. You will get out what you put into the class, the work you study and do the more you will learn. Brother Hunt helps you understand and will always give you a laugh!!Dhaha
Murray Hunt is a great professor. He is funny and makes you want to be a better person and a better thinker. He makes you work for the grade you want, but gives you the option to stop coming to class depending on the grade you want. Both my wife and I loved his class.
Brother Murray is absolutely amazing. His classes are so fun, you will learn so much if you come with an open mind! His grading criteria is clear and fair, and he honestly cares about you as a student. He is willing to help you both in class and outside of class. He's the best!
Great guy, knows about he's talking about, sometimes makes sexists slips though. Very much of the baby boomer mentality.
Really smart guy and he's funny. So if you're looking to learn for the sake of learning, Hunt is probably one of the best. He's great for senior classes because he doesn't assign tedious busy work. Can be intimidating on assignments because he doesn't spoon feed students. However, he's willing to meet outside of class and address concerns there.
Great at carrying out discussions with students and caring about the student's learning more than anything else.
Brother Murray is wonderfully kind, though he can be a little obnoxious sometimes when you disagree with him (as is the case with most students of philosophy!). A true erudite and lover of wisdom! He's well read in the classics and learns to learn. He'll push issues logically to the point of thorough investigation. It was a very fun class!
We're rating Brother Hunt as a group of friends who were in the same class. (And are currently in the same class.) So believe us when we say that he was not the best teacher we've ever had. Sheesh, he just comes off as if he knows everything better than we ever would. Can it be the end of the semester now?
The grading is simple. There are a lot of assignments. There is a lot of reading.
He is one of two teachers that I search out in future semesters. I am taking a course from him next semester in fact! I loved the structure for the class, and feel I was challenged in a way that was best for me. The commercial breaks were amazing! While it is clear that he is intelligent, he is humble, and does not take himself too seriously.
Excellent course. You're graded more on doing the assignments than how well you do on them. Brother Hunt is weird but he's really funny and teaches very well. My only beef with the course was the "mandatory" textbooks. We had three and never once opened them. Huge waste of money. You can get by just fine without them FYI, don't waste your money.
I loved Brother Hunt! I would take a class from him again. He has a clear and simple grading criteria. He make class fun and enjoyable with his commercial breaks. There are a lot of assignments, but they aren't difficult.
He is a philosophy guy! Great at thinking and being an example of learning how to learn! One of (if not the) my favorite English teachers I have ever had. Great guy, very clear about what he expects of you. Lots to write, but lots to learn!
This professor is an excellent instructor--though he is challenging, he is exceptionally proficient at communicating his knowledge.
Tons of busy work. The grading system isn't very clear. I didn't enjoy the huge focus on philosophy in a writing class.
Brother Murray is hilarious, takes the time to get to know you personally and is very accessible outside of class if you need help. His class has a ton of busy work, but if you just have the work you will get a 100. He also grades the papers easily so if you do the work you will get an A.
Great teacher. The grade is based on 4 papers done in class, but you work on them bit by bit throughout the semester. Bro. Murray is really funny and is really helpful when you have questions about your paper and really tries to help you get the grade you want. Would definitely take again.
Bro Murray is an awesome teacher, his class requires a lot, there is a lot of busy work . But for assignments all you have to do is follow instructions and you will be okay.
Brother Hunt is a great teacher and very well organized! He is already familiar with the questions that students have about the coursework and does his best to have the answers readily available. There are 4 major papers that determine your grade; 3 of these papers are only peer-graded. He only reads the last paper.
Hes been teaching for a while so you have to remind him youre just a fresh student who doesnt know much. Also, he talks really fast.
Very knowledgeable about the topics. He will take the time to help you if you're struggling. Some of the concepts are difficult, but if you apply yourself and ask questions; you will do well. He is also quite hilarious.
He is a great teacher who will help if you ask for it. It is a hard class if you do not ask. Instructions are kind of confusing though.
Course is set up in a step by step process. If you complete all the steps and give a quality effort there is no reason to not get an A. Class discussions are thoughtful and debates really make you think.
Brother Murray is the man. He's very laid back, but is also extremely intelligent and really knows the subject. He's articulate and it's just fun to be in his class. Be prepared to gain a few pounds from his sin offerings.
Professor Hunt was an absolute delight to learn from. He engages with the class often and kept the class entertaining while still conveying information well. Really fun, knowledgeable, and all around enjoyable guy. I'd go bowling with him any time, which is something I wouldn't say about many professors.
Hunt is a good guy. Hes extremely intelligent and also quite funny. The content of his course was very interesting, however, sometimes I didnt feel like there was much value in going to class. Why? Because he just goes over PowerPoint slides that are then posted on ilearn. Thats my only complaint. Overall a good experience though.
At the beginning of the semester, it's very clear what is expected. He tells you what is due for each class, and gives clear directions. He's very funny and makes class fun. You need to show up to class to turn things in, but gives you chances to turn things in late for a small fee. He's flexible and willing to give his time when he's asked.
He is a fair professor. Very funny. There is a lot of reading to prep for class, and quite a bit of writing. But he is hilarious. I would definitely recommend him to anyone.
Brother Hunt is probably one of the best English teachers I have had and I usually don't like English. You decide the grade that you want to get and then work on it throughout the semester. Brother Hunt helped me to become a better critical thinker and how to expand my writing. His instructions and very clear and to the point.
If you take this class, you have to want to learn. You definitely get out of it what you put into it. My only complaint would be that sometimes I felt like class was used more for announcements and class business than actual instruction. But overall, great teacher!!
Brother Hunt is one of the best teachers I have had on campus at BYUI. He is an energetic teacher and really likes to help students learn and grow their critical thinking skills. If you want to improve your learning and thinking skills he is the teacher to take!
Brother Murray is a great teacher. If you want an inspirational, helpful and caring professor, take this professor. He really cares for his students, and he wants all of them to gain critical thinking skills and great writing skills. Writing essays are not a burden for me anymore, and it is all thanks to Bro. Murray.
Well, this is a writing class, so of course you will have to write papers, but Brother Hunt is a great teacher! He is very clear on the grading and if you do the homework and go to class and follow instructions this class will be good for you! There is a lot to learn and he can help you develop critical thinking skills that will help you later on.
I really enjoyed this professor! It was bittersweet to leave. Brother Hunt makes you think in his classes and you have to work for your grade, but don't let this deter you from taking him. He's fair, as well as funny. If you apply yourself, you'll learn something new.
Brother Hunt is a very intelligent, passionate, and wise teacher. You can tell he loves what he teaches, and thinks it's beneficial to learn. He is difficult, though, and you need to be prepared to do LOTS of reading and spend time on your essays. He is a bit eccentric, and sometimes makes off the wall comments that may be offensive to some.
Brother Murray Hunt is OLD SCHOOL. I wasn't sure about him at first but I ended up loving his class. He doesn't use I-learn, so if that bothers you, steer clear! All your papers are PEER evaluated. He makes class so fun and shows a lot of funny videos to break up class time. He also accepts late work, as long as you bring the whole class a treat.
Brother Murray is amazing. There will be a lot of assignments given for homework, but they are helpful assignments. Brother Murray is so funny. You will love the class! I would take him again.
Super good class. Homework due everyday, just show your neighbors and they sign off. A few super long papers but you have a long time to work on them. Lets you turn in late work the next day if you bring a treat for the whole class. Super fun teacher who makes the class enjoyable.
Brother Murray is hilarious. His last name is Hunt but he goes by, "Brother Murray". You learn A LOT about critical thinking. This class makes your brain stretch but the class is doable. I look forward to his class every week.
Brother Murray makes the best out of the class. Most of my friends dreaded their English 301 course, but I actually enjoyed mine and I think its because the professor makes it bearable. You have to do assignments for each class, but you just have to show a classmate that you did it is all. I learned a lot of new things that has been beneficial.
Bro. Hunt is going to expect "A" work from you, if that is the grade you desire, but the catch is he is going to help you out the whole way in order to help you get there. The way this class is set up, you will write 5000 words with no problem and have the capability to critically think your way through almost any situation.
Brother Hunt is amazing! I was a little bit scared at the beginning of the semester, but he definitely exceeded my expectations. He makes you work for the grade you want, and you will learn so much about critical thinking! He let you make up for late work by bringing a "sin offering" to class. He is also funny and cares about his students!
Brother Murray (as he prefers to be called) is brilliant, a bit eccentric, & very funny. He allows for a lot of personal accountability: class isn't mandatory & the daily homework isn't turned in daily. Do it anyway-- for understanding on tests, & bc he has you turn in one assignment per section (less than 1/wk) & it's worth as much as an exam.
Brother Hunt is an awesome teacher and I am so glad I took this class! I tend to have writing anxiety, but his expectations are clear and grading is fair. If you do each assignment step by step like it is laid out, you will be fine. Late work is accepted if you bring a treat to class!
Good Teacher, lots of busy work but is easy as long as you put for the time and effort.
Hes a great teacher! He Gives great feedback! The papers arnt difficult, and he gives you a good amount of time to finish them.
I really liked the set up of his class. He also really makes you think to help you learn.
Very interesting class that really encourages you to think outside the box. Calendar/instructions can be a little wordy and hard to understand but Bro. Hunt is always willing to take time to help you understand.
He is hilarious! Also he is a critical thinker, youll have many opportunities to think critically and gain new perspectives. Grading system is different than most classes but it makes sense and it works well enough.
This class was amazing. He cares so much about his students and really makes you think.
Great teacher, doesn't require attendance but you can get a lot out of the lectures by being there. Funny dude, and knows his stuff. Homework and tests are weighted equally so getting good grades shouldn't be an issue. Has a very lenient late homework policy (bring in treats for the class and you don't have a late penalty)
Murray Hunt will push his students to work hard but he is fair and understanding. He is always willing to help his students who need and ask for help. Also, he is passionate about the subjects he teaches, which inspires his students to participate and to learn the material. Can't go wrong with choosing a class with this Professor.
This was the first time Bro Hunt taught this class, so we were all figuring it out together. We got to choose the assignments we wanted to do which made the class easier and more enjoyable. Lots of reading. The grade was made up of weekly homework assignments (40%) and a 12-15 pg term paper (60%). I'd be interested in taking another class from him.
You would be surprised what you can accomplish when you work for it. Brother Murray is a pusher. There are assignments that may take you out of you comfort zone. Overall, the class seems overwhelming, but it is doable if you put the work in. He's funny and willing to help, but unless you completely impress him on an assignment, you won't get an A.
Brother Hunt is awesome. The class is difficult, especially the first few chapters, but it gets easier. Class isn't mandatory, but it helps more than anything. If you're a lazy piece of crap, and just want to get by, you probably won't do well. It's difficult material, but he does a great job of teaching it. Also he's really funny.
Bro. Murray (as he often goes by) always has hilarious lectures and makes class fun. Super great class. You'll definitely want to make sure that you understand the material however, as your grade won't start to drop until it's too late.
He is enjoyable because of his silly attitude. But I felt like the lessons were rushed through so I got nothing out of it. I always left confused. Luckily he doesn't take attendance. Doing all the hw and reading from the book and avoiding confusion by never going to class got me an A! Beware of schedule changes w/o announcement except once in class
This was his first time teaching this course so as the semester went on he had to change things up but it was all in our favor. He is way nice and is always willing to work things out with you if you miss an assignment or don't understand something. He's just a great man and really loves teaching.
he is a fantastic teacher. just make sure that you go to class and do the homework. he always has some fun stories to tell.
Awesome professor. Incredible knowledge of the material covered in class, and great at explaining it. Really teaches you how to think and write.
I signed up for this class to prepare for the LSAT. I stayed in it because it was the one class where I could be myself. He made me feel welcome and like my questions mattered. I often stayed after class to get his counsel on things that bothered me personally. He pushes you to think deeply on issues, especially those relevant to LDS members.
I loved Brother Murray! His class was difficult but he was always extremely understanding. He's very unique when it comes to personality and I enjoyed his for that, so expect a lot of laughs. He get's you interested in whatever he teaches, even if it's a subject you aren't really interested in it. Just don't procrastinate!
I'm sure if I took any other class from Brother Hunt, I would have done fine. But for some reason PHIL205 was extremely difficult for me to understand. It didn't help that he rushed through the first five chapters to get to the "fun stuff" because the first five chapters were "boring". If you don't read the textbook, you likely won't pass the class
Brother Hunt is an awesome teacher! He is really funny and knowledgeable about the subject matter. You will need to work for your grade, but an A is definitely attainable. You can tell he really cares about his students and wants them to succeed. He makes class fun and enjoyable to be in. Would definitely take him again!
Professor Hunt encourages transformative improvements in the work of his students, and is equally accommodating to the needs and limitations his students possess.
The class is paper heavy, however there are many opportunities to get extra credit. He's understanding of personal circumstances with the right documentation. There are lots of peer evaluations, which is really nice.
Brother Murray is a great teacher. He is funny and really challenges the way you think. Which is super good, it helps you learn. However, There is a ton of busy work and his grading system is very unclear. He does a good job spacing big projects out, however his directions for them are unclear and very lengthy.
Brother Hunt is great! He has a great sense of humor and makes class entertaining and informational. I was nervous to take a 300 level English class from him, but he made it so easy! Simple homework assignments that are very easy to understand and his big paper assignments really aren't that bad. If you want a good experience take from him!
He is helpful and you really learn how to think in his class
Brother Hunt is an exceptional professor and he's hilarious. He helped me overcome my fear of writing. I would say that his class is a lot of work, but it's not an unreasonable workload. He is a very effective teacher. WARNING: instructions can be unclear and lengthy.
Brother Hunt is awesome! His classes are hilarious and you really learn how to think and write. This class has a lot of readings and writings assignments, but Brother Hunt is very understandable. If you miss an assignment, he allows you to turn it in late with a "sin offering." I used it many times and helped me a lot! Expectations are very clear!
Great guy. He can really help you become a better student. Not the easiest A, but worth the effort.
Brother Murray's class if different compared to most other English courses I've taken. He has a unique grading system and he focuses a lot on thought experiments during class. I don't think he's for everyone but I'm glad I took this class from him.
I have never been so motivated to attend each day of an English class until I took Bro. Hunts class. He is very aware of each of his students and really has a passion for what he teaches. No matter what your views are on writing, show up, do your best work and he will easily reward you guaranteed!
I learned more in Brother Murray's class than I have in any other English class. He is more worried about teaching us how to write than grading us on how we write, and he is always willing to help us out. Some say its all busy-work, but every assignment is there to help you write and think better--so do the work. Plus, he makes it easy to do so.
Brother Hunt is so awesome. He is always happy and loves his students. He grades fairly and offers some good extra credit opportunities at the end of the semester.
Excellent!! Made one of the most boring subjects imaginable a fun experience. Super funny and shows epic commercial breaks!!
He is a great teacher. I took logic and hats a hard topic, but he made if fun and understandable. You have to put in the work and come to class, but if you do that you are golden. Be ready to laugh and learn all at the same time!
He was awesome! I learned a ton but it felt like an easy class. He knew exactly how to help and always made logic relatable and fun.
Hes a great teacher, keeps things interesting and interactive. Definitely makes you work for your grade, he offers lots of opportunities for extra credit. If you dont understand the material hell work it through with you.
Brother Hunt is one of those teachers that you love to hate. But you still gotta love him. Honestly, his class is a relatively easy A. He makes it clear exactly what is due and how to get an A. I don't understand how people don't understand this. Just do what you're asked and turn it in when you are asked like the responsible adult you are.
He is a great teacher and if you participate you will get a good grade. He wants you to succeed.
Difficult to adjust to at first, but he grew on me. Loved the subject matter, and the class was really easy but be sure to study for the tests - they're hard. VERY sarcastic, so take what he says with a grain of salt. He's a GREAT guy, he just enjoys teasing people to lighten the mood. If you fail this class you're lazy or horrible at studying
Brother Hunt is a great teacher! Granted, there are some things about him that some could disagree; however, overall his passion about what he teaches is contagious. His syllabus and course calendar is very well organized. He doesn't rely on I-Learn too much so that is helpful.
Brother Murray is AWESOME, His logic class is absolutely amazing and I emphatically recommend it for anyone who desires to hone their reasoning skills. Logic seems difficult at first but you can get the hang of it. It's just all so logical. Fantastic professor. I wish he demonstrated how to do proofs, but it is okay because the tutor helps a lot.
In Philosophy 205 I really enjoyed the class overall, however, there was some parts of the class that were hard. I wish that I would have been more apt to go to his office and get his help. He sometimes would digress in class....
At times it seems like there is a lot of work, but you will learn many things about writing and your ability to write will improve. My confidence in writing and my enjoyment and desire to write increased. You will come to enjoy writing much more. The grading is fair and you may work for whatever grade you like.
Brother Murray will change the way you see writing. If you consider yourself someone who dislikes writing, or worse dreads it TAKE THIS CLASS. Brother Murray will teach things you will wish you would have known back in high school, better elementary school. His approach to writing will open your eyes to the possibility of being a great writer.
He was a great teacher. I looked forward to going to his class everyday. The class was very enjoyable and interesting. The homework going through the textbook. He doesn't grade homework or attendance but there is a quiz of five questions everyday and so you have to do the homework and attend if you want to do well on that.
Brother Murray is a great professor! The first few chapters in the class can be kinda difficult, but after that it's great. He is a great help if you are struggling in the class, and is super accessible during office hours. I highly recommend this class to anyone who is preparing to take the LSAT!
FDENG301 This teacher desires that his students learn two things by the end of his class: (1) how to think and (2) how to write. Learning how to think was the most rewarding, but also the most challenging. Writing became as simple as putting those thoughts on paper and revising. Great teacher. Knows what he says. Great intentions.
Great professor! The way he goes about teaching English is much better and completely different than the classic Grammer, punctuation, boring stuff, and etc.. Some heavy papers, but graded fairly. The main assignments are broken up so you don't lose yourself in the class. However, be prepared to write a lot. This class has taught me how to write.
Brother Murray is a great professor. He is a tough grader and he makes you work for an A. However, he gives great feedback if asked and he helps you push your own thinking. He will teach you how to write and write well.
Murray Hunt is always willing to meet outside of class, and purposefully sets times where the class can come meet him for additional help if desired. He gives a lot of extra credit, and will work with you. Do not think this means he is a pushover though. He weighs justice with mercy, and you will have to earn your grade one way or another.
This class is definitely worth taking! I've always hated writing and thought I sucked but now I am confident with my writing. You have to put in the time and effort to get a good grade but the class is structured to help you succeed. At times it may seem that there's a lot of homework but they are worth your time and there to help you.
Loved this class! I have always struggled with English classes, but it was definitely worth it. As long as your willing to do the work, you should have no problem in this class. He makes the class fun and interesting. He focuses on developing your thinking skills & getting comfortable with writing. Great professor. Best English class I've taken.
Very funny, very smart, and generally humble. Although attendance isn't mandatory, I don't think I would have passed had I missed multiple lectures. If I weren't graduating, I would find another class of his to take, even though he doesn't teach anything to do with my major.
He is a good teacher; he allows you to be done with the course when you get the grade you want.
There are many assignments throughout the whole semester. There were a few weeks where multiple assignments are due every day of class. Brother Murray usually will not assign reading, but he will reference you to parts of the books that may help. Brother Murray is a nice guy and he will help you think in ways you have probably not thought before.
Excellent teacher, incorporates critical thinking into writing and provides an excellent class on how to write an excellent paper. The class gets slightly less intense through the semester and is well worth sticking with it.
You will never regret taking a class from Brother Murray. He is very knowledgeable and is an amazing teacher. I learned so much from him, and would definitely take a class from him in the future. While his class was slightly difficult, it was very enriching and was worth every single second.
Brother Hunt is so much fun. The course material is difficult, so you have to work hard. The homework is easy but the tests are hard. Go to the help sessions.
Brother Hunt is a great professor. He's hilarious and helps you understand even the driest and most confusing topics, and even enjoy them. He doesn't require a ton of homework submissions, but the bar is still high - good luck passing if you don't study.
Frater Murray is a great teacher! He makes students work hard & challenges them but also brings fun to a hard subject. Deeply caring teacher, helps his students in every way & also makes them do their work & respect him. Latin is challenging, expect to work hard. Grade is from 5 areas so if you don't do well w/tests its ok Recommend him & Latin!
Brother Hunt is a fun teacher. There is a clear structure to his class so you know what to expect every day and if you go to class and do the homework the tests are easy. He does a really good job of keeping the class interesting and he will let you turn the homework in late if you need to. provided you bring treats as well.
He's a great professor. Not a difficult class if you stay on top of it. Really fun teaching style.
only four major assigments but lots of work for each own. you have something due every class period. very helpful and caring
Great teacher learned a lot even though English is my least favorite subject Brother Hunt made the class very fun and enjoyable. Every class is full of laughs and intellectual conversations. His homework can feel like busy work by the end of each paper you will be able to clearly see that they where small steps that made the papers easy to write.
Great teacher! He'll work with the students in any way possible to make the class better. He isn't set in his ways at all and will change the entire format of the class if it's easier for you.
He's awesome but Latin 101 is really hard. Lots of work!!
Fair teacher. Funny guy.
He made this class worth it. His passion and love for the language really made it fun. Yeah it was a lot of work but it was all worth it. He is an amazing teacher.
I loved taking Latin with Brother Hunt, I found myself looking forward to class each day. It is a tough class, but that is the nature of any language class. Bro Hunt always came to class happy and excited which built a really fun learning atmosphere. There are daily quizzes, but they are really pretty easy if you just do the assigned readings.
So much reading
Brother Hunt is awesome. He's really funny, and he knows his stuff. He doesn't ever require attendance but class helps a ton with the course information. He always gives a calendar so you know what is do and when. He doesn't check his email often so just go by his office. Awesome teacher.
Brother Hunt is HILARIOUS! This was one of the classes I couldn't wait to get to every day) He has tons of great knowledge, fun and engaging classes and teaching, and even at times able to incorporate a great spiritual lesson.
Bro. Hunt is a fun teacher! I enjoyed going to class and having discussions on optional Wednesdays. The homework may seem intimidating but its mostly steps to writing good papers. Looking back, it was all for your benefit and made you a better writer and thinker.
He was definitely one of my favorite professors, and made English interesting. I wasn't used to the grading system, so I didn't like it at first, but in the end, I appreciated it.
Brother Hunt is a great teacher with a good sense of humor. It is a lot of work but you can succeed if you dedicate the time and effort. I had class MWF and for more than half the semester, class was optional on Wednesdays! AND anytime you miss an assignment you can make it up completely by turning it in next class with a treat to share!
Prepare to work hard and laugh hard.
The course had a lot of difficult concepts, but completing the homework, participating in class, and attending the study sessions makes it easier to understand the material. The lectures are PowerPoint heavy, but the PowerPoints are available to print out before class, which makes it a lot easier to follow along in class and he includes fun videos.
His classes are tough in general. So you really need to stick around more than just a couple of weeks. This class got easier and easier for the most part as it went on. Don't quit right off the bat. Give it some time. He is super funny. Some could call it dry humor but still super funny! He can use complex verbiage instead of making it simple.
Just do the busy work and you'll get an A.
Brother Hunt is incredible. He's definitely got a unique personality, but he really cares about his students. I enjoyed taking his class, all he wanted was for us to succeed. In his own words, if you "do the work, do it well, and do it on time", then you have absolutely nothing to worry about! I'd definitely recommend him to anyone.
He simplifies the writing process to make it less intimidating. It's a lot of work, but it's more tedious than it's difficult. The instructions are lengthy, but in real life, instructions will never be straight-forward. He's very accommodating if anyone has questions. If you want to have an A handed to you on a silver platter, take another class.
He's very knowledgeable and relatable. He gives a lot of homework, but only because the stuff is difficult to understand and practice helps a lot. The beginning stuff is harder to understand than the later stuff as the student gets acquired taste of the material. Don't be afraid to ask questions because everyone else feels stupid too.
I loved Bro Murray's class. He is very understanding and gives amazing feedback on papers. He realizes that students and papers will not be perfect, he just wants you to be professional. LOVED his class and would take him again!!!
The homework is pretty heavy and consistent so you really have to work for your grade, but I seriously learned so much and really enjoyed his class. Bro. Hunt is an inspiring teacher and helps you reach a professional level of writing. I would definitely recommend his class!
Brother Hunt is a fantastic teacher and gives you every opportunity to succeed. This is a difficult class because of the material, but if you put in the effort then you will be fine.
I highly recommend taking ENG 301 from Brother Murray. This class is a lot of work, and there are assignments due almost every class meeting, but they are all for our benefit. Brother Murray breaks the essays down so that they are more bearable. He is more than willing to give you feedback. If you do the work, then you will succeed in his class.
This course was very difficult for me as the content was all new! I enjoyed the content because I felt intellectually challenged. The course is very organized and the expectations are clear.
I thought his teaching style and grading was really different, but he makes class entertaining. He focuses on critical thinking heavily and there are lots of little papers leading to the 4 major papers, but it does help. If you miss a class you can just bring a "sin offering" (treat) the next class and you don't get docked for late homework.
I took FDENG301 from him. I actually learned to think which I had never done. Wednesdays are optional because you do thought experiments on these days. I would definitely recommend attending on these days - it makes the class so much better. You make your own grade by the assignments you do. Be prepared for videos that will make you cry and food.
Brother Hunt is awesome! He is funny and makes class a very interesting experience. It is very clear what is expected of you. Unlike most English classes, you actually have complete control of your grade in this class. As long as you do the work, you can earn an A. This has been the best English class I have taken and it is because of Brother Hunt.
Brother Murray is a great teacher. He expects a lot from his students, but he's always willing to help them when needed. His grading system is very unique but pretty cool. He is clear about his expectations for himself and for his students.
Brother Murray is an incredible teacher. He pushes you, but helps you become so much less afraid of writing. Also, there are four papers, but only 2 of them are required to get at least a C. If you complete them, he will let you pass the class with that grade and you don't have to come the rest of the semester. He treats you like an adult.
Love Bro Murray! He is one of my favorite professors of all time and I would totally suggest any classes from him, but especially his Latin courses! He is funny and caring and honestly, his class was the only class I looked forward to. He is upfront of what he expects from us as students and is willing to work with us so we can do our best.
Brother Murray is a fantastic professor and honestly, this is the first English class I've taken that has been worth my time. My writing improved significantly over the semester and I'm grateful for the skills I've learned. Writing never seemed so easy! Thanks Brother Murray!
The class was very productive and was more focused on actually learning something rather then just giving tons of busy work. He is very detail oriented in giving instructions. Most of the projects are peer reviewed. There is normally something due on two of the three days.
Great class. One thing though is that if you don't actually go in to see him during his office hours, you won'e get any feedback. Could be a good or bad thing depending on what you're looking for
To succeed in his help, do your part and ask questions/his help.
Bro. Murray is my type of teacher. I loved his English class. . I wanted to do the assignments for my benefit. It is so easy to get a good grade. Just do what is asked each day of the "Blue square sheet" for class. If you are late on an assignment just bring a treat for the class next time and your finished assignment and you still get full credit
Brother Hunt was very helpful when I came to him for feedback. He was clear about his expectations. He also had reasonable expectations. He helped me get away from perfectionist tendencies and work through writers' block. I'd definitely recommend him to as a professor to other students.
This class was great. Brother Murray expects good work, critical thinking, and positive attitudes. At first I thought he would be terribly tough, but as you get to know his system, you discover he cares more about what you LEARN rather than what you EARN. He is helpful, lively, funny, but also professional. He always expects you to try your best.
Brother Murray is one of the best professors I have ever had. If you want to learn how to write, then take this class. But one of the best parts about this class is Brother Murray not only teaches you how to write, but he teaches you how to think. If you are looking for a professor who is going to make you better, take Brother Murray's class.
Brother Hunt is a fantastic teacher. He cares about his students and is passionate about what he teaches. He recognizes and respects the effort that his students put in. You can miss class but you better do the work, for your own sake. This class can be difficult, but Brother Murray makes it fair, efficient, and an all-around good time
Brother Hunt is awesome, really personal, loves teaching and helps you really enjoy the class. He does not take attendance but an assignment is due almost every day that counts towards your final grade. Wednesdays are optional for the first half of the semester.
This class was awesome, the teacher is super funny and super nice! The homework is a lot, but it is forgiving. I would def take him again.
He was a good guy. You can basically choose your grade in the class. You do as much work as you want to get the grade you want. Pretty standard English class when it comes to how much work.
Brother Murray is a fine professor. The workload is heavy, but is designed to help students learn concepts like critical thinking. This course has helped me become a more proficient writer. Brother Murray is always available to offer help and useful insights. He cares about his students and accommodates those who make honest mistakes and repent.
This class has a substantial amount of homework but is manageable. The majority of the assignments are not strictly graded. He has a unique grading system that promotes keeping up with assignments. All of the little assignments complement the major assignments. Mr. Murray got me past the fear of writing large papers.
He is a great teacher! This is the best class I have ever taken. This class is difficult, but it's worth it! I have never loved a class so much, nor have I ever learned so much before. Don't be frightened by the reading in class, nothing is mandatory, you chose to be here. If you do the assignments you will do great! Don't skip Wednesday class!
Brother Murray is a great teacher! We all love coming to class, most of the the students voluntarily come to an optional class. The lectures are interesting & helpful. Most class periods involve helpful & fun activities & significant interactions between the whole class. Latin is great! Brother Hunt is knowledgable & "loves his latin students" :)
Brother Murray I saw my favorite teacher I had so far! I have learned so much from this class. I would definitely take it again. He is very funny and always ready to help.
Murray Hunt is highly professional while also being approachable. He is one of my favorite professors and has had a lasting impact on my education and my life to come.
He's not an easy English professor, but his class is worth taking.
I took logic or PHIL 205. Didn't realize the challenge the course would present. Class isn't difficult, rather the learning process for logic is time consuming. If you do the homework you'll do fine. Brother Hunt is a great teacher. Listen to his words, walk in the meekness of his lectures and ye shall have peace at the end of the semester.
Brother Murray's class was a blast.
This class was by far my favorite one. if you like t ok think hard and use your brain this is the class for you.
Great teacher. He's quite peculiar, but he makes class very enjoyable and lays out clear expectations at the beginning of the class. Grades most assignments on completion, grades some tests on a curve. Holds test reviews regularly. Overall, he's a fair, caring and reasonable teacher, but he's a bit nuts.
Brother Hunt has made me fearless when it comes to long essay assignments. This class was not easy and requires all the homeowork to be completed in order to recieve a good grade. If you do all the homework on time, all essays only have to get an 87% to get an A in the class. Bring a treat and be forgiven for not doing hw on time. Im still alive.
You have to do a lot of writing, but it's a writing class, so it should be expected. He makes it easy by breaking all of the writing into manageable chunks though, and you have constant opportunities to make up work if you miss class or just frankly can't get it done in time. As a professor, he's really funny and truly cares about the material.
FDENG 301 This is a great Professor. As a great professor he will make you work and help you grow. Though there may be more work than other writing classes, all of his assignments have a purpose and help you learn important skills. He structured his class in a way to make large tasks very manageable. His class is always entertaining and beneficial.
Breaks down big tasks into smaller more bite sized assignments. Continually tries to teach students how to be better critical thinkers. Teaches based on the idea of extisentialism. Great teacher and great class.
While attendance technically isn't mandatory, there are quizzes every other class, and hw, so if you miss a day, you miss turning in something that contributes toward your grade. LOTS of hw. Very valuable class though.
You will learn good technique to writing papers. At the end you will be a better thinker (if you have gone to the optional thought experiment days) and a better writer. Also, you will feel as if writing is not that daunting. He is really fair, just work hard and stay at pace with the homework and you'll do just fine.
Class is very intriguing, and there is much to learn. You must be present for class every day to receive credit for the assignments you have submitted. Honestly, you need to be physically present in class, but you don't always need to be there mentally. I highly suggest you are mentally present each day.
Teacher is very energetic for his age; very passionate about writing. There is a lot required of you to do in terms of writing and homework, but it is not that bad. Very good teacher and would strongly recommend.
He is an amazing English Professor.
Brother Hunt has his own way of doing things that can be confusing at first, but you get the hang of it. He teaches skills that help in other areas of real life- not so much the grammar and style stuff. Ask lots of questions and stay on top of your work!
This guy is rad! He is super fun and has made me not hate English class. He is very clear about what you need for a good grade and it's super attainable. He let's you turn things in one days late if you bring treats and that saved my buns. He teaches you the process of writing in a way that actually helped me. I no longer fear writing papers.
He is fun and energetic. He wants you to pass his class and as long as you follow instructions it should be easy to pass. Just to the assignments that way you don't have to play catch-up and miss out on easy points.
As a Stanford graduate, Professor Hunt is successful at raising the academic bar at this university. His class is engaging and worth every minute. The homework assignments are lengthy, but excellent preparation for your exams. He is very patient and makes much time for you, should you need it. If you're ready to be more logical, take this class.
Brother Hunt is a fantastic teacher! He has a lot of small assignments, but these are all pieces of the big assignments (term paper, essay, etc.). It's really hard to get a bad grade and to not learn a lot from his class. Brother Hunt is fast to respond to questions, and likely gives the best feedback you'll ever receive.
Professor Hunt has philosophical discussions one day out of the weak that are optional but interesting.
This class involves a lot of writing but Brother Hunt is really good at dividing it up and teaching the students how to write the papers.
While Brother Hunt is incredible, don't expect to learn very much from your classmates.
There were lots of great thought discussions and often the lectures ran more the way of a philosophy class. However, the only reason there are so many reviews for this teacher is that we receive a grade if we leave one.
He's a great teacher, with great experience in the field.
Brother Murray is an amazing teacher. Have an open mind, and a willingness to put forth effort while taking his class. I have learned a great deal about a wide range of subjects, and somehow it all ties together.
I learned more about grammar in Latin than I did in grammar class. Latin is also more applicable to the real world than in grammar class. He's very good at making the course engaging and will make adjustments so that students get more out of it. If you do the homework and go to class, you'll do just fine. Otherwise, you will suffer.
Great sense of humor. Very intelligent and helpful. Will help you think in different ways. Uses peer-reviews for writing assignments which is a benefit to the students. Assignments don't become overwhelming, because he breaks them up. His grading is clear. Sins offerings and fudge days allow you to turn in assignments late without penalties.
Brother Murray is a really great teacher, he gives us good feedback and great instruction for what we have to do for the assignments.
In this class, you will be challenged to think. Yea that may sound weird especially in a college course, but if you come to the thought experiments, you will gain a better understanding of how to think critically. You will learn skills to tackle those long boring papers, writing will not be daunting anymore.
Murray Hunt is a phenomenal professor. He wants his students to succeed, and at the same time he lets his students use their agency to choose the grade that they want to earn. The way that he sets up the course material and his grading system amazes me because it is so well planned and thought out. He is kind, approachable, and entertaining.
Brother Hunt loves his Latin students - he'll tell you that right off the bat. And it's true. Because it's a language class, there is a lot of work to be done, but Brother Hunt provides plenty of opportunities to get ahead. The class can be an easy A, if you stay on top of things and do the best that you can.
Awesome teacher who makes it fun and entertaining
Hilarious. His movie quotes give me life.
Hes a great professor who makes his classes very interesting. You should definitely show up to class all the time, because he explains the topics much better than the books do.
Bro. Murray, has taken much time to prepare this class and knows all of the material like the back of his hand. He is a very positive, happy, and funny person. He loves to writes so prepare to do a lot of writing, but thats the purpose of this class. Class is not mandatory, but missing class will result in miss blue squares (missing points).
In Latin, every Friday is 'Friday Funday Foodday' where if you bring a treat you get full points back on one of the daily quizzes. And everyone says they have a funny professor, but Brother Hunt is honestly the funniest teacher I've had!
I enjoyed Professor Hunt's class. He is a very good, motivational teacher and helps you become a better reader and writer. Be prepared to work hard and it really helps if you get assignments done well and in on time. Don't fall behind and you should be fine. I would recommend this class to anyone who wants to become a better writer.
Brother Murray's ENG301 class requires you to do homework outside of class. The homework assignments are the components of writing your papers. There is a lot of writing but it is a great course. Brother Murray is very willing to give you great feedback if you need help. The course is set up clearly in order for you to get the grade you desire.
Brother Murray is a very good professor. There is a lot of homework involved, but it helps in the long run. The work really makes you grow and helps improve your writing skills. He is also available outside of class and is willing to answer the questions that you have. He also has a late work policy in exchange fro bringing treats for the class.
You are asked to do 2 hours a class of study. Classes are everyday. Nice guy though, really fun and spontaneous.
Murray Hunt was the best English teacher I have ever had. He helped me to really think in a class, and even though it was hard, I would do it all over again. I have learned so much more than I ever could have had I not taken this class with this teacher.
Brother Murray is a fantastic teacher. In all honesty, one of the best I've ever had. He's lots of fun and is VERY merciful to his Latin students. That being said, this is still a HARD class. 7 tests, daily prep quizzes, projects, BUT lots of opportunities for extra credit. I've gotten 60s on three tests and I still have a B+. Hoping it will go up!
Murray Hunt is a happy, energetic man who makes it easy for students to participate in class discussions. If you are any kind of decent student, you will succeed in his ENG301 class. His instructions for each day of the entire semester are written clearly, which makes it very easy to complete every single assignment before it is due.
The best teacher you will ever have. Brother Hunt is absolutely hilarious and his classes are often the highlight of my day. The subject is a bit demanding and requires study but I learned more in this one class than I have in any of my other classes this semester. One of the most valuable classes you can take.
Professor Hunt was an excellent teacher. It can get overwhelming when it comes to the various paper assignments, but so long as you do the assignments consistently, the class will be an enjoyable experience.
Bro. Murray is a great teacher and extremely funny. His way of grading is a bit unusual, but you can get an A if you follow instruction well.
Brother Murray is an incredible professor. He is very clear about his expectations and about what is due. There is a lot of work but the work refines your abilities and helps you to become a better writer. He is very funny and makes class very enjoyable to attend. You will get an A if you do the work.
Brother Murray is a great teacher. There is a lot of work to do in his class. A little bit of what seems to be "busy work." But he is funny and you learn a lot from him.
There is some work, but I learned more from any other English class before.
The course was tough. Latin Is a class that requires lots of reading and work to really understand what is going on. Brother Hunt made it quite fun to come to class though. Despite it being tough I never fretted coming to class he was enjoyable to be there and learn about the language. Really was my favorite latin teacher.
Brother Hunt's Latin 101 class is great. Since "Brother Hunt loves his Latin students," he makes it easy to pass the class if you'll just show up and try to do the work. It's really worthwhile taking this class, because you'll come out of it with better English and better critical thinking skills, in addition to the Latin.
Brother Hunt teaches Latin passionately and with good humor. I learned more about the roots of America and also some dangers that we have today that are similar with what the romans faced.
(This is for his Latin class not English) Brother Murray (Hunt) is a great teacher! Since taking his Latin class my vocabulary and grammar skills have improved immensely! I have learned more about grammar and mechanics than I have in any of my English classes.
Bro. Murray is one of the best teachers that I have ever had. I never dreaded going to his class. He makes sure you know exactly what he expects and what he grades you on. What I enjoyed most is that he never taught you useless information! He always made sure that you knew why he was teaching you the things he was. Overall, 10/10 would take again!
He really helps you overcome any fear of writing. There's A LOT of homework & reading. It can be overwhelming and kinda unclear whats due for next class. I missed a few assignments and points due to that fact, BUT he is super fair helpful. He also lets you turn in something a day late if you bring treats for the whole class. He's pretty awesome.
I loved brother Hunt as a person and that's about it. His class was hard as balls, and honestly most of the time he teaches so fast I don't understand what's happening. BUT! he is good and making extra credit and letting you argue your test scores to maybe receive more points.
Bro. Hunt is a great teacher. He always lightens up the lectures with "commercial breaks" (YouTube videos). Make sure to get the homework done on time: there's a lot of it and it weighs heavily on your grade.
I just really enjoyed his sense of humor. He is a good professor and it shows that he has been perfecting this course for the entire time that he has been a teacher. I would highly recommend this course to anyone who still needs to take 301.
Hes a fantastic professor!! Very funny and entertaining, but very good at explaining things and helping us understand. Him and his TA are very willing to help you. If you put in the effor, youll get an A
I liked Brother Hunt and his class. His explaining in class is super rushed and hard to get if you don't read the chapter before. Attendance isn't mandatory but you will miss quizzes. Overall pretty good!
Awesome teacher. Makes heavy topics easy to understand and fun. Lets you choose what grade you wanna get.
He is such an inspirational teacher! He is always motivating and helps to break down all of the work that we need to do in the class which makes it less overwhelming. You have to work hard
Pretty tough class, learned quite a bit about critical thinking but lots of busy work.
Brother Hunt is a very good teacher and a person who you can respect entirely as one who knows what he is talking about. He is a hard but fair teacher, he has methods to his madness.
Once in a while, you take classes which are uncomfortably stretching but turn out highly educational. Professor Hunt's class is one of them. If you're not proficient in English and critical thinking already, this class will be difficult but extremely beneficial. Be ready to learn and to expand your understanding, if that is something you value.
Bro Murray Hunt is hilarious. I loved his class and would take a class from him again. He gives you many opportunities to make up work that you missed and you can eat food in his class haha.
Brother Murray Hunt really expands your thinking, I don't think I've ever had an English class that I enjoyed until I had his class. Was a great experience. If you work hard and go to class you'll pass everything easily. One of the things he emphasizes is he grades on professionalism, not perfection. Follow the instructions, you'll win!
This class was truly amazing and I am grateful for the opportunity I had to take his class. An interactive experience that Brother Murray gives us allows us to develop the skills necessary to think for ourselves and critically examine our writing.
This is a great class. It will set you up for life by helping you to reason better. Brother Hunt is a fantastic teacher. He's funny and he's fair. It's a 300 level class, so it's not easy, but if you follow the schedule you will be fine. I've learnt so much from this class. Everyone should take it, and if you can take it with Brother Hunt do it.
Brother Murray is excellent at helping his students gain the knowledge and skills to make good writing come naturally. He always brings a great attitude to the discussions and assignments. His grading policy is one of the best I have seen.
Brother Hunt has a few assigments that are life changing and make the whole class totally worth it. Take his assigments seriously, and try and think about how they will benefit your future. The term paper is kind of a drag, but in this class, quality is not generally measured. Just do the work, but don't stress about it. Do it:get an A.
Brother Murray is an amazing professor. He will not hold your hand in his class but he will be there to help elevate your thinking. I had a great experience in his class and recommend others to take his class as well. You will need to work hard though.
I wanted to take another professor I had previously taken and was bummed when I found out he was not teaching. Only to later realize that Mr. Hunt was the teacher of the other professor I wanted to take. Brother Hunt has a very clear methodical way of doing things. Not only do you learn to write but to think which is essential to writing. And, FUN.
Brother Murray is great! I learned so much from him. He gives very specific instructions, and if you follow them you will get a good grade!
Brother Hunt designs his class to make you a better thinker. You get the grade you out in the effort for. He is good at teaching the importance of the subject. I enjoyed the discussions in class.
Brother Hunt is a fantastic professor! He class is engaging and will push your thinking and writing skills. One of the best professors I have had on this campus.
Bro. Murray is the best professor I have had at BYU-I. English 301 changed my approach to learning and my understanding of college. Bro. Hunt cares about teaching his students much more than just how to write well. He is articulate, well-read, entertaining, and he lets you bring the class treats to be forgiven for turning in late work.
Brother Murray is awesome! He works really hard to help you learn how to write well by helping you learn how to think better. If you want to become a better critical thinker and in turn, become a better reader and writer, then take this class!
Brother Murray is one of my favorite professors! He genuinely cares about your learning and gives good and helpful feedback in class and out of class. I really loved this class.
Sometimes papers overlapped in the class & got stressful. Don't procrastinate the day by day due dates & you will be fine. Attendance was kind of mandatory due to the "blue sheets" he uses to calculate your grade at the end of the semester. Attend the "Thought Experiment Discussions" every week, super beneficial! Hunt was awesome & willing to help.
Brother Murray is awesome. He made the class go by quickly and he made it actually enjoyable, which I have never before said about an English class. The assignments are all laid out very clearly and he is so helpful every step of the way.
Brother Hunt is a great teacher! The grade you get is really determined by you. Make sure to come to class. Funny Professor, highly recommend!
Bro. Hunt is really good overall. There is a lot of reading, which was hard for me but has it's purpose. Overall, I'd recommend his class to anyone.
Brother Murray's class is great as he works to make sure students develop an understanding of key principles involving critical thinking and writing skills
Brother Murray Hunt made English actually enjoyable for me. Before this class I hated writing and was somewhat scared to write long papers, but he helped me overcome that fear and learn to write well. Also probably one of the funniest teachers on campus.
This class was not overly difficult nor was it super easy. You are required to do your work as best you can and graded on wether or not you have done it. Grading system is weird, but effective. If you are looking for an A, the steps are well laid out, you just have to actually do them.
He is a hilarious and engaging professor. The class has a ton of assignments and many times you are working on several assignments at the same time.
Bro Hunt's point is to make you think and then teach you how to write your thoughts. If you keep up with his system, you won't have a problem. If you want to do everything last minute to try to pass, you will be miserable.
Do the work, do it well, and do it on time. Follow directions and do your best and this class will teach you a lot. Great professor with many years of experience!
I loved his class. I always knew what was expected and if I was ever confused he would always take the time to help.
When you are taking this class, you need to know what you're getting into. If you particularly do not like a LOT of reading, a LOT of writing, and a LOT of deadlines, just stop yourself now. If this doesn't bother you, sign right up! Although he demands much, he doesn't take attendance and the content is great. Just be ready for a lot of work!
He is one of my favorite professors I have had. He is hilarious. He teaches a writing class, which you would think would be boring, but he makes it enjoyable. I have learned so much and my writing abilities have grown throughout the semester. The amount of work is overwhelming at first but it is broken down into manageable chunks.
The discussions were really good, I learned a lot in this class.
Brother Murry Hunt is an excellent teacher! He helps you accomplish the homework by providing detailed explanations of how to do them. He is so much fun and always enters the room with positivity and energy.
Brother Hunt is such a dedicated teacher! He is very entertaining and is very good at pushing his students to become better thinkers. He has so much energy! He makes us want to come to class. His grading system is a little unorthodox but it is very fair. I learned so much from him! I would definitely recommend him to anyone and everyone!
Brother Murray is a wonderful teacher! He does a wonderful job in being up front on the course. Like all English teachers, he has a wonderful sense of humor, but difficult class work. It feels a lot more like we have control over our grade since he tells us what is required for each grade.
Brother Hunt is a phenomenal teacher. I highly recommend his class if you are the type of person that enjoys quality education. There is a lot of homework in this class, but if you do the basics, literally, you'll pass A- or higher without a doubt. One of the greatest teachers I have ever had.
I can honestly say that I learned how to write! I am not scared anymore to write and I have the ability to be able to write a 25 term paper with confidence and ease. He taught us that in order to write better we need to think better. His thought improvement sessions every Wednesday definitely helped me improve my critical thinking.
Brother Hunt is AMAZING!! He teaches that you do not need to be perfect, just professional. If you do your best and strive to follow the rules you will do really good. He cares about the students and if you make a mistake he will help you. You will learn so much if you take this class from him.
An amazing teacher! He will make your work for the grade, but you will feel amazing because it gives you a chance to become better. There is no busy work everything matters and makes things clear.
Brother Murray is hilarious and really cares about English. You will also learn philosophy by taking his class.
Brother Murray was hilarious! He would just jump up and dance or get down and do push ups on a moments notice! You never know what to expect from him!
Brother Murray is the man. I have always hated taking English classes and will continue to do so. Brother Murray made English bearable and exciting. Lots of work was required in his class but it was applicable. I enjoyed his class and I now understand the importance of critical thinking and writing. I would highly recommend him as a professor.
Brother Hunt is fantastic at pushing students to consider their logic and develope a sense of relevancy for when they communicate their thoughts whether it is in thought experiments or their writing. I felt like there was a sense of nuance in the class and it was enjoyable to have commercial breaks and discussions with the class. Fantastic insights
Brother Murray is how you would say, an intelligent troll hunter. I feel this is the best way to describe who he is. A great teacher who, if the opportunity to help someone learn arises, will find the resources to do so, whether it's in improving your writing or in removing a laundry hamper from your head. I have never been more challenged!
Brother Murray Hunt is the best. I've never had a teacher that challenged me to think critically. The way I think, analyze, and judge situations have changed immensely as well as my writing. He expects us to write professionally, logically, and intelligently. He also did a somersault on the first day of class and is just a total crackup.
Brother Murray is honestly a hoot, but a hoot who knows how to get the course done. He helps the atmosphere be light in the classroom and is very clear on what is expected. Overall one of my favorite teachers, funny and dedicated.
The best part of having this teacher was that he understood this class was a requirement for graduation and that is how we viewed it. However, he did want to make sure we learned about critical thinking. The class was not an easy A, but getting an A had a clear objective list. There was a lot of work, but it was clear on what to do.
Brother Hunt is one of the best professors I have ever had. He made the class a very enjoyable time. There was a lot of work in the class but Brother Hunt walks you through it step by step each time. He was a great professor!
Brother Hunt is an amazing teacher. I looked forward to going to class every day because he made class fun and interesting. His class was very well structured; I could tell that he had been pefecting it for a long time. His grading system was very well crafted. He is retiring this semester, and I know that he will be missed!
Brother Murray knows his stuff! If you're looking to really learn to be a better writer and thinker, he's a good choice. He breaks his assignments into little parts, so if you don't have a lot of experience writing it's a good class to learn some solid methods. If you do have your own method, you might end up a bit frustrated. It's still worth it.
Brother Hunt is literally SO amazing!! He doesn't expect you to become a perfect writer the second that you take this class... his goal is to get you over the fear of writing and realize your potential. He is hilarious, smart and so kind! It's not very often that I really enjoy going to class, but he always made it fun and enjoyable!
Professor Hunt is an amazing Professor. He loves his students and always makes them feel appreciated. His assignments are easy but very critical thinking. Be prepared to read and write and think critically. Above all, I will recommend anyone to take his class. He is again an amazing prof.
He's a really kind and funny guy who cares about his students and will do what he can to help them succeed. He's like everybody grandpa. He is absolutely crazy but we all love him anyway.
I do not enjoy English classes. I have often had difficulty with them, but Brother Hunt makes it easier to understand what to do. I still don't like English classes, but I have learned a lot from this class. This is not an easy class by any means, but it is doable if you're willing to put in enough work. Choose Brother Hunt if you want to learn.
Brother Hunt is amazing! He has inspired me and opened my mind to the possibilities of higher thinking. His class requires a lot of time and work, however, it is all for a purpose with little to no busy work. He is the Albert Einstein of English/Writing/Philosophy professors. If he wasnt retiring this semester, I would take more classes from him.
He is such a good teacher, but more than that, he's just a good thinker and has such a wise mind.
Brother Hunt was an amazing professor who truly cared about what he was teaching. He was fun and I always enjoyed what he called commercial breaks. At one point he showed off that he could do a somersault (hes old so its impressive). Best teacher, I feel bad for all those who will miss out when hes retired.
Great professor. I had a fun time in this class and I felt that I learned a lot about critical thinking. My writing has improved because of this class.
Brother Hunt is the best! I learned a ton from him and would take another one of his classes. Get ready for lots of homework and time spent out of class writing papers, but if you stay on top of things and don' fall behind you'll do just fine! He makes it super easy to know exactly how to get the grade you want. He also gives top quality feedback!
If you've taken PHIL 205, then take PHIL 305 if you want to get better. Brother Hunt is funny, very smart, and very willing to help anyone understand the material if they are willing to work hard. He doesn't get offended if someone doesn't show up to class or do homework. He's got a good sense of how students are and how to help them succeed.
Brother Murray is amazing! He's hilarious and really knows what he teaches! By far my favorite teacher this semester!
