Awesome lectures (Anat-Phys), uses lots of fun examples to explain what he's talking about. Has a great website that goes with course. Connects with students well despite large class size.
Awesome prof! Keep up then it's easy. Really nice and good at explaining things. He likes to have fun.
Great professor that loves teaching. A lot of stuff to learn, make sure to study all notes AFTER each lecture so you're ready for the CO-OP quizzes after the next lecture
Boring....
Murray is just a great person all around. He is so helpful, and it seems like he really makes an effort to get to know his students as people, rather than just student ID numbers, which is really nice at such a big school. The material is pretty tough, so you'd definitely want to study. It's worth it, though!
the guy who wrote boring...was a douch bagg...murray is one of the best profs. I've encountered at the university and I hope he gets a good job after our beloved GC is done
murrays the best! i loved that class..its kinda hard tho...but hes the best. he's always there to help and hes really fun to talk to outside of class...HES THE BEST!
Murray is GREAT! Love the WebAnatomy stuff. And he's a babe!
I had Murray last year and he is an amazing professor! He's HALARIOUS and is very fair on everything. I would definitely recommend him.
Murray is amazing. He is funny, clever, and very smart. His subject matter is difficult but he does a very very very good job of making it clear and interesting. I highly recommend taking a class with him. He is my definition of a wonderful teacher.
The best teacher at University of Minnesota. He is able to take complex material and break it down for everyone to understand and relate to. He teaches with enthusiasm and love for the topic, which is rare at a freshman level class.
Murray is a rare teacher and great instructor. Dont get me wrong but the class is still hard. Comes with the subject. He's going to make you work and work hard. He's very fair with his grading. Exams are HARD, but he tries to give you the chance to do well. There a lot of work between lab and the class itself. But you learn a lot of amazing things!
I took this class to get out my biology with lab done & took it pass/fail. THIS CLASS IS HARD! If you don't need to take it DONT! Jensen is a real nice guy but if you are looking for a class to get you lib eds done DONT PICK THIS ONE and if you do consider taking it pass/fail. Exams were extremely hard (for us non science people).
He is a great PERSON, but I find him annoying as a professor. He constantly messed up the scantrons and assigned pointless assignments in both lecture and lab. The tests were easy if you really put the time into studying for them. Definitely buy his study guide and you'll be fine!
Great professor! Took a freshman seminar with him and it was very interesting...tests are easy as long as you study.
The best teacher at the U! I really enjoyed Human Anatomy and Physiology. The class was very interactive despite it being a lecture. The tests are a bit hard so you kind of need to know your stuff. He gives you ALOT of resources to prepare for them though (i.e. his website, the book, class notes, etc.). I learned so much in this class from Murray!
Murray was the best biology teacher ever. I really struggled with biology in high school so I was worried about taking it at a college level. Murray said on the first day of class that it's not hard to get a solid C in his class, and he wasn't lying. As long as you read the textbook chapters and STUDY for the tests and quizzes you're golden.
I found Murray to be very annoying as a professor - he does way to many little, pointless projects. I felt like I was in high school all over again, doing all this busy work that definitely will not benefit me later in life. However, he made things understandable and going to lecture helped. It was an easy class, as long as you read the book.
Most annoying teacher of my life. He pissed me off every day I came to class, but he knew what he was talking about. I think he created as much homework and tests as he possibly could because I think he thought this was the only class we had for the college semester when along with the work for his class you have stuff for 3-4 other classes..
Best Professor ever! I loved going to class because he was so interesting and entertaining! I would definitely take another class offered by him.
The best teacher I have ever had, funny, interesting, and knows his material very well. He is an awesome teacher and an even cooler person outside of the classroom, make a strong effort to have him as your teacher plus the class is very easy if you do what he says (no excuse for anything less than an A except your own fault)
Murray is by far one of the best professors in the PSTL department. He made class worth going to even though it was an 8am. He's funny and if you go to class his quizzes/tests are pretty easy.
Great professor. He seems a little ADD at sometimes but thats what aces the class better. Super interesting and if you do the online quizzes and his WebAnatomy its an easy class. He makes a lot of strong statements that could piss some off otherwise he is fun and entertaining!
Interesting class. Murray keeps you interested in the topic, he is opinionated especially for a biology professor and notes are sometimes hard to follow, but material isn't too difficult. The first half of the lab is somewhat difficult, but second part is much better.
I would not consider this to be an introductory level anatomy class. It can be very in depth at times. Murray can be ADHD most times. Weekly quizzes and difficult exams. Group assignments are difficult without being taught the information. You end up sitting there waiting to see if he will teach the material or not. Sometimes yes, other times not.
I hated Murray. He skips around, doesn't follow w/ the book, and randomly expects you to know things that he never taught you. In class, he gives you worksheets and tells you to look up the answers instead of just teaching you like a normal prof. He constantly talks down to students and makes rude comments and jokes. Always left class in a bad mood
Murray is fun and engaging. He teaches in a way that is easy to follow and understand. He actually cares about students learning the material instead of making them memorize it. Although the topics can be challenging, he gives you all of the resources to get a good grade. I enjoyed going to his class, and I learned a lot.
Great teacher! This class was a higher level thinking class but very well explained by the teacher. I really enjoyed going to this class even though it wasn't mandatory. Super random and really funny. If you get the chance, take a class with him!
His freshman seminar was extremely easy. He gave everyone full credit on a major project, and would sometimes extend due dates. That being said, he was very engaged with the class and facilitated good discussions that were interesting regardless of major. Definitely recommend to anyone looking for an easy 3 credits that fulfill tech & society theme
Great easy going professor who knows his stuff I was scared at 1st took the class to fulfill the bio requirement & took S/N option but there was NOTHING to be afraid of he makes it easy to understand and his grading system is great no one should fail. no need to take S/N if not a science person take this to fulfill bio easy &less intimidating
Murray is a fantastic professor. He is very knowledgeable, and is very happy to answer questions. For this class he had a lot of homework, but overall it really helped my grade. He is very engaging. He really wants you to learn the material, not just regurgitate it on a test.I would reccomend this class to anyone!
A solid professor. An easy course. The tests are rather straight forward. Do the assigned work, read what it is he suggests you read and you are almost guaranteed to succeed. Jensen makes it well known what it is that he wants, and he professes it clearly. I wholeheartedly enjoyed the discussion based teaching method he infuses into this course.
Murray is really fun and is totally a great guy with good stories. However, the direct lecture to test ratio isn't so great. The homework doesn't even go into detail as much as the test. The TAs do the most work and are the most helpful of anyone.
Thinks he is revolutionizing the classroom by handing out packets during class and having the students try to answer the questions with no previous knowledge. He preaches more than he actually teaches.
My favorite professor at the U. He knows exactly how to teach students and how to make us learn most effectively. I really enjoy the class and he has lots of stories and side notes that add to the lectures.
Murray is the coolest. Definitely has ADD and dyslexia, but who cares. He's a scatter-brained genius, so classes are exciting. Leaves discussion open for anyone to speak up, and encourages deep thought about several debatable topics such as eugenics and gender roles. Make sure you read the texts, and study before tests. Grading is fair.
Loves and knows how to teach. Makes you like anatomy and physiology and makes ways easier to learn it. Breaks everything down for us beginner learners.
The assignments are given assuming you already have a complete vocabulary of medical terms. Murray Jensen cannot connect with students. This is possibly the worst class I've ever taken.
He is super quirky. His lectures are sometimes really interesting. Sometimes really dull. I like him. I just am not a fan of all the busy work. There are weekly assignments and quizzes that are all pretty easy. You will get to know your lab partners well whether you like it or not...
Easy class if you actually do all the works. Tests are pretty easy if you spend time studying.
He really made an impression on me. He cared for his students and their success. Strongly recommend him as a professor!
Very nice set up on moodle with extremely helpful no point quizzes and very helpful mini lectures
Lab is super easy. Tests are kinda hard so study hard. Quizzes and homework every week are easy points. There are group learning packets that we fill out each class. It's the style Murray believes in but personally I wasn't a fan. Cool subject and Murray's lectures are at least interesting.. Just be ready for some busy work and don't buy the text
Very knowledgeable, but he does not remain objective. Much of the class seemed to be more about him trying to pass his skewed political agenda to the students. There was a little too much of him trying to push the class into the misguided far left way of thinking. However, if you happen to have an A+P question, he'll have a good answer.
You really only need to show up to class to find out what part of the textbook to read, otherwise the class is some humors/angering preaching/philosophizing form Jensen. The packets are about $6 and there's two of them. They're basically busy work. I'll give him this though: he's always willing to answer your questions.
Murray was a great guy who was leading me through some of the most painful material I've experienced in three years of full-time university. The class content was downright satanic and while he was able to artfully help me learn some of the material, there was way too much stuff that he was not covering in class. And to think it's a CLA-based bio!
Murray was an okay prof for this course. It was his first time teaching this course here, so he originally made the tests way harder than need be for this level class. I liked the things we learned, yet the in class activity book, I hated. It's a group setting and you're with the same people the whole time, so make sure you sit next to good people.
The word load is very light, I can't remember ever having homework besides one group project. However, the class was tough because Murray was extremely disorganized. He would quiz on very specific concepts that he would only touch on in class, and wouldn't on things he spent hours explaining. I got a good grade by the grace of fate.
Very laid back professor, and very approachable as well. BIOL 1015 was offered for the very first time at UMN this semester so it was a little rocky (a bit disorganized) but Murray handled it well. He has a sense of humor and always brings it to class. Also, don't be afraid to ask questions in class! He knows what he's talking about.
Professor Jensen is awesome. He care about what students should learn and know for the course. The class is group work intensive and exams are fair. Unique teaching style and would recommend this professor for this class.
Very clear what is on exams and quizzes. Lab was easy. Never used actual textbook, but did have a workbook that you use everyday in class. Rarely homework outside of class. Easy to get a good grade if you listen in class and review what he tells you to before quizzes and exams. No cumulative final, just 3 exams. Actually learned a lot! He's goofy.
One of the best professors I've ever had. Maybe I liked him because his class was super easy and I didn't have to show up to pass. However, I literally found myself wanting to go to his class and hear a lot of the interesting things he had to say. He provides real world context to go with course material and it's always interesting.
Great bio teacher! Really engaging and interesting lectures. This class was a required Gen Ed but I learned a lot and am happy I took it. Lab was easy, almost always got out early. No lab reports! Some dissections in lab. Tests were based on the lectures and the worksheets. Quite a few group quizzes and only 3 non-cumulative tests. Recommended!
Prof Jensen was super enjoyable in BIOL1015. I study business and only took this class to meet a requirement, but I learned a ton and had fun with it. It's anatomy/physiology, but it really felt like the best health class I've ever taken. Learned a ton of practical things and found the topics to be pretty easy.
He's too lazy to make a proper study guide for assignment and expects students to teach themselves during lecture. He talks for like 5 minutes and the rest of class is group work. Don't take this class if you don't have to. I never post reviews but whoever is reading this, don't take this class. Spare yourself.
Actually so terrible. Expects a lot from his students with very little guidance and expects students to find the answers on your own. This is a beginning level course but is much closer to a 3000 level class. Would not recommend this class or professor.
Professor Jensen was extremely enjoyable to have as a teacher. One of the best classes I've ever taken. It was extremely laid back and was a refresher to my week. He cares about students and makes sure everyone is on the same page. I highly recommend if you're looking for a fun 3 credit course with minimal work freshman year!
Murray was an interesting guy. He is the last person you'd expect to have a PhD. He was energetic about the topics which helped but a lot of learning was out of a course packet and relied little on lecture. He also randomly liked to get political often which was definitely unexpected for a physiology class. It was easy tho, so a good Lib Ed option.
Murray Jensen is a great professor, at least for a Lib Ed class as I haven't taken any serious biology with him. He always includes anecdotes or stories relating to the lecture topics that maintain interest and were helpful to remember specifics. The course itself is a lot of anatomy and physiology that you really just have to memorize.
Prof Jensen made the anatomy class a lot more interesting than I was expecting, and the topics about COVID-19 were actually very helpful in learning more about the virus. The class however is a lot of work for a lib ed class, but I got more out of it than I was expecting. Also my TA was one of the most hard working people I've met.
Didn't enjoy lectures before the COVID-19 since he didn't really lecture and just made us work from the activities packet without really giving us clear guidance during class (answer keys were later posted online). However, was great with online class! Recorded lectures and then held Q&A class sessions. For quiz & tests, just a lot of memorizing.
He knew a lot about the biology specific information but I mainly had issues with the related topics he chose to discuss. He fat shamed and didnt understand basic aspects of healthcare (which he spoke about frequently). His lectures post COVID were much better than his in person which was just using a workbook made for middle schoolers.
He doesn't really do lectures and when he does they are super confusing and jump around, not really knowing what to write down. Only tests are graded so hopefully you do well on those. Also there are activities to do but he never teaches the content or gives out answer keys. Basically you learn the course through google.
Professor Jensen was great! I took this class to clear up some graduation requirements, but I learned a lot and had a great time. It was nice to learn more about the scientific side of COVID rather than what's constantly portrayed in the news, and I'm glad he incorporated that topic into the class.
Murray is such a great and engaging prof! The course was offered in blended modality this semester- but he did a great job keeping us motivated and offers nice extra credit opportunities at the end of the semester. He understands that many students take his course as a requirement and wants to see them pass.
Professor Jensen is a great guy and knows a lot about what he is teaching. He can get political in this class, but that is necessary at times. He genuinely cares about his students and wants them to succeed in a course purely designed for liberal education credit. Highly recommend this course if you need these lib eds!
I highly recommend Professor Jensen. He's a chill professor, but he definitely knows what he's talking about and you'll learn a lot from him. This class was super easy, and I never had to study for the tests because Professor Jensen did a great job of making sure you knew exactly what would be on the tests and quizzes.
for labs you just have to show up, no workbook. TA's did lab, often very chill. Homework and in-class work not graded. Exams and tests are pretty easy as long as you went to class. Had to read one book (200 pages) or do a project. Not too hard though. Wants you to succeed.
BIOL1015 was the most engaging class I have taken so far. Prof. Jensen is a very animated guy and keeps lectures interesting. Lots of peer interaction but most of the grading comes from three big exams. Easiest lab I have ever had. Go to class, relax, and be ready to hear some (slightly) controversial lectures. Highly recommend for a GenED.
He was rude to students in class if they asked questions and his exams had random hyperspecific pieces of information on them. Overall could've been better could've been worse but I would just take someone/something else.
I took this class through CIS at my high school so it was taught by my teacher at my school, but it was honestly the easiest class I've ever took. Co-op quizzes were a breeze for me, my teacher broke things down very well, and he was very flexible with due dates.
Great guy who makes learning fun.
Professor Jensen is very knowledgeable and teaches in a very engaging way. He is somewhat disorganized which can make the class more of a burden to go to. I definitely learned a lot from this course and enjoyed it more than I expected. Overall, the course was a medium amount of work for a lib-ed with a lot of groupwork, but pretty interesting.
Murray is so cool. Has so much wisdom about life, and the things he does in class actually help retain this information. If you need a Biological Sciences LibEd, this is definitely one I would recommend taking.
His lectures were very disorganized. We had a packet that we had to buy from the bookstore. Every lecture we would jump around sections from it, and that was how we learned the content. There was no clear expectation of what we were supposed to know, we just had to study the activities that he barely actually talked about.
Murray's great. One of the few classes I enjoy going to. The only issue is my confusion with his grading scale. On gopher grades, so many people receive A's, but so far the test averages have been b's and c's. There is no final as well which is, in my opinion, awesome! Would gladly take again.
Murray is hilarious. The class is set up to foster communication. A class I genuinely looked forward to going to to see my classmates. Felt like you were back in HS messing around. You learn a lot, but you do have to study for the tests. A lot of filler points and Murray is very understanding. Highly recommend taking.
Murray's lectures were genuinely fun to listen to. He clearly loves what he teaches. There's a lot of working with classmates during lectures but it helped learn the content. Probably spent about 2 hours outside of class on work. Lab is ridiculously easy. Show up to lecture and lab and you'll get an A.
The grading scale was confusing. We would jump around sections, and it felt disorganized. Lectures are all over the place bc he would talk about random things in the middle of the lecture.Take Biol 1009 instead of this class bc it'll cover your Libed, and will be more beneficial for major req.
Murray does not ever actually lecture on a topic. He only tells you to work on workbook activities, then never goes over them, and IF he posts an answer key, more often than not, it does not match the assignment from the book. He only grades on exams. Labs don't really contribute to the grades that much, and his grading system makes zero sense.
Murray is a great guy, but not the best professor. The lectures and the work with them are interesting topics, but the exams are very tough as questions on them are random and frequently not discussed in class. Studying is very important for this course. Other than that, Murray is funny and clearly cares about the subject material and students.
Professor Jenson's lectures are entertaining and he cares a lot about his students. However, 70% of the final grade is based on exams and they are by far the most difficult I've taken at the U of M. I would highly recommend against taking this course if you are looking for the biological science credit.
Great professor who taught the material well and is also a fun professor. People will say it's hard but that's true with all biology classes, this is definitely one of the easy ones. Tests are a large portion of the grade, study a couple of days before and you will be fine. Labs are super easy and you get to dissections. Overall fun and easy class.
Great time in lectures! Not much graded homework, but frequent cooperative quizzes give a lot of your grade.
Here to warn you about Jensen. He does not teach at all, it is just activities in class and you do not know if you're doing them right.. The tests are ridiculously hard with super niche questions. For example we had three questions about the person who invented the pace maker, and the information for those were in a 34 pg OPTIONAL reading.DoNotTake
Class is easy enough until test time. Test are very hard with very niche and specific questions. Class is usually a lecture with packet work but you don't if your answers are correct. Murray also dosen't use canvas and it's literally impossible to know your grade until the end of the course. Great guy, just test are hard and grade is unclear.
a lot of his test questions came straight from lecture even tho lecture was kinda boring.. but the workbook he made was super helpful in digesting the study material and overall set us up for success if you just studied from it! labs were just as unhelpful as lecture, but lab actually had mandatory attendance but it was chill
Clearly been a professor for a while and has mastered the lectures. It's less lectures more group work with occasional lecturing. Super funny, super relevant stuff. I think about the things I learned in this class still. Grading criteria is kind of confusing. Other than that it was great. Loved going to class. He's slay
Professor Jensen is a great guy, but his lectures are awful. The test questions aren't clear and are very niche topics that were covered in lecture for maybe a minute max. If you are taking this class for the Bio gen ed requirement, take an easier course. If you are doing this for an interest in medical tech, you won't learn anything useful.
