Dr. Krantz is willing to help in any way possible!
Dr. Krantz is a great teacher! Very thorough! The class is very interesting!
Awesome teacher
Very helpful and nice.
Interesting class.
Dr. Krantz was an amazing teacher. I definitly recommend his child development class. I learned so much information. Great Teacher =)
very nice guy but you can read the "textbook" and learn the same stuff
Probably one of the best professors I have had at FSU. He is very passionate about what he is teaching and that makes his class very enjoyable. I HIGHLY recommend him!
An amazing teacher. Anyone who has even thought about having kids one day would benefit from this class. He loves what he does, and it shows.
Really helpfull even outside of class
So arrogant it is distracting.
Great teacher. I loved the class. He's knows what he's talking about and he has the experience to back it up. I recommend this class to every student who plans on having a family someday.
He was an excellent professor! I learned so much useful information. I highly recommend him because he is so knowledgeable!!!
An amazing professor. His experiences and his stories help you to remember the stuff he is teaching. Really passionate about what he does. One of the main reasons i became a child development major.
He's a nice man with many experiences, but he talks about his grandkids so much and tries to relate everything thing they do to his teachings and enough is enough, i feel like i know the kids.
Dr. Krantz is the most pompous, arrogant professor I have ever encountered. On a positive note, he doesn't have much of an attendance policy and since his students are nothing more to him than a social security number, he won't have any idea if you ever go or not. He's a jerk.
Pretty easy class so far.
Kranz may come off as really arrougant (and he is don't get me wrong), but his clas is still ok. Most stuff on the test comes from the etext, but still passable. Nice guy and makes really good jokes.
he is interesting to listen to. although he rambles on about his experiences..the tests are dificult. you HAVE to read the online text book as well as taking excellent notes.
Dr.Krantz is an excellent professor. His love and passion for this subject really show in his lectures. He lectures without an outline but it is very easy to follow. He lectures keep your attention and he follows all points with concrete examples
Don't bother going to class, just read the online text (which is VERY poorly written, and an embarrasment to the university, but unfortunately is required) and buy the StudentNotes from Southgate. His lectures are virbatim from the notes for sale (which were from a previous semester, but still perfect). No attendance. Easy A with minimal effort.
Dr.Krantz is a very intelligent professor, he will get you as excited and interested in Child Development as he is. His stories are engaging and relevant to the subject. His tests are easy, just read the TEXT. I'm 100% if you enjoy children and studying them, this class will be the best you have ever taken at FSU.
He espouses a lot on his views, but since I agree with his views I think he is an awesome teacher. He gives sounds advice to young people that they don't want to hear, plus he is very caring about kids and youth in general.
Dr. Krantz knows what he's talking about, but I found him to be very arrogant. It's hard to follow along with his lectures because he likes to go off on tangents. He gives a lot of good information but I don't know if I'd take another class with him.
Great Prof!
I enjoyed the class because the lectures were very interesting and informative. The class is an easy A if you come to class and review major points in the reading. He knows what he is talking about and often draws from unique experiences during his lectures.
I loved Dr. Krantz! I would definitely take another one of his classes if I could. If you read the book and go to class you'll do great in his class. He makes his lectures interesting because he has a lot of stories and personal experience!
Dr. Krantz is quite confident that he is God's gift to Child Sciences. He is highly opionated and I found him really annoying. The class isn't difficult if you attend.
Great teacher. Don't miss class b/c he goes over a lot that may not be in the E-text. Be sure to do extra credit since it's worth up to ten pts.
Great teacher! knows his stuff. Everyone should take this course its extremely important for anyone looking to have a family in the future.
Easy A. Never went to class, but I always HAD to study for the tests. Tests can be somewhat ambiguous but if you study you'll do fine.
Great teacher! Be sure to check if audio lectures are available on class website. You can listen to them instead of attending class. They were exactly the same! Listen/attend lectures; read the eText; do the extra credit. Easy A.
not really a class more like a show. No need to go to class, it is all in audio
He is absolutly amazing. I learned so much from his class and he was so helpful in everything from what to know in the tests to the real life applications of his teachings. He was great and would take his class again in a heartbeat!
I never thought I'd do anything with child development until I took this course with Dr. Krantz. He got me so interested in it that now I am almost done with my minor in Family and Child Sciences! Great professor and I would take ANYTHING he taught. Do the work and study and you will be absolutely fine.
Dr. Krantz has a talent for lecturing. His lectures are so interesting that I ended up making Child Development my minor. This is a very great class to attend, but you don't *have* to because you can study the Etext and listen to the podcasts and do fine. There is only 3 tests and 1 extra credit, so at least study minimally each time and get an A!
Dr. Krantz makes this course the best and most important college class you will experience in your life. You might be able to do fine without going to class, but his lectures are SO INTERESTING I would pay to hear him speak anyday. He is AWESOME! Do yourself a favor and sign up for this class! I recomend him to EVERYONE!
Amazing professor. I will miss this class. Teaches you so much. Read the E-text. Unfortuantely it isn't enough to just go to class to do well. But the lectures are so much fun to listen to. This class has been one of the best I've ever taken.
I absolutely love Dr. Krantz. He is an amazing professor; his lectures were always interesting and usually quite funny. Attendance is not mandatory, although I highly recommend going to class. I'm taking another class of his next semester and wish I could take more.
Krantz was an easy class if you read the etext and go to class (or if you buy student notes and read the etext). The class was really interesting and you could learn things for future experience.
The E-text is a waste of money. Basically gives you information you already know if you've taken a high school health class. Doesn't give you any real information, just links to other websites that have details. Too many links to other websites- its a total waste of money. Don't buy it.
Lectures are often boring...E text is a waste of money...split it with someone then save it on a thumb drive or print it out!!! He rambles and gets very side tracked...he knows what he is talking about, stories are entertaining...but are useless in terms of the test...study definitions and concepts and you should be fine.
Easy class. Take the online version. Very lax on the grading. I BSd eveyrhing all the way through because I was taking it pass/fail and still managed a B+ without trying. Online exams are easy.
3 Exams (no study guides), extra credit available, he appreciates those who come to class but takes no attendance/no pop quizzes. It's an interesting class, Dr. Krantz is pretty funny and he knows what he's talking about. I would recommend getting the e-text and going to class for an easy A.
One of the best professors I have had. Aftet he class I made this my minor! You have to purchase the e-text to do good int he class. For test 1 you might be OK without reading the e-text, but for the rest of the tests you HAVE TO read it or you will not do ok. Go to class, read the e-text, and take notes= "A" in the class!
He was really interesting and makes even the most boring parts of child development interesting. Be seen on class on Fridays and he will love you forever.
Yes, Krantz is conceited. He has reason to be though, he is awesome. The class is so engaging and makes you want to research the material on your own time. More people should take this class as Krantz makes it relevant to modern guys/girls dealing with sex/pregnancy/childraising. Go learn.
Attendance not mandatory, 3 tests(no study guide or review), 1 extra credit assignment, & must read E-Text. Nice guy but he talks at the class more then to the class. Has good stories but can bore you with some rambling. Tests are not easy
Awesome professor. Huge lectures, yet he still manages to connect with student audience. Tests are not as easy as Krantz says, but are manageable. Information learned on child development is invaluable. I would just note that people talk in this class in the back and don't get reprimanded by Krantz ever, so move if you are distracted.
Dr. Krantz was one of the best teachers I have had at FSU. His lectures aren't bad because he knows his material and knows how to make it interesting to his students. As long as you read the e-text you should do well on the exams.
This guy is totally full of himself. He seems to have a God complex and thinks he's a gift to all women. The e-text is horribly boring, but you really do need it. I stopped going to class after the first test, and easily passed with an A. He gives the truly remarkable teachers on campus a bad name.
He really doesn't know what he's talking about, but he can be mildly entertaining once and awhile. It really isn't worth your time to go to class. He charges $50 for an "etext" which is the most unorganized and unprofessional "textbook" that has ever been created.
Took the online version: 13 papers due every Friday based off e-text, in order to score top marks they need to be very thorough. 4 exams, non-cumulative. Exams & papers are straightforward but you must study & know your stuff. As you read the e-text takes notes! 90% is an A, 88% is A-. Great info, would take prof again in heartbeat!
Loved this class. Dr. Krantz knows a lot and lets you know. Most is common sense, but there are questions on the test straight from the e-text. Know the highlighted words in the text and take notes on the topics he repeats and you'll do great!
Don't go to class, he tells stories and rambles. If you've taken classes similar to this like, you learn the same exact thing so you don't have to study. He makes you buy his "etext" which is ridiculous and is made up of mostly websites. Easy class if you already know the content or like reading off computer screens.
Dr. Krantz is an awesome professor. Sure, he is full of himself, but he totally has a right to be. He has obviously spent a lot of time with children and knows exactly what he is talking about. Most everything he says comes from personal experience. He will definitely help you out if you need it. I would highly recommend him to anyone.
The E-text is written so horribly, that you cannot read it...the dude obviously flunked English. I would say avoid at all cost; if you have to have this class, take it at TCC or FAMU, or with another prof. on campus, but don't choose him. Might as well boycott him and not help out his retirement fund (i.e. the "e-text").
He is knowledgeable and has tons of experience. I took him for child guidance and development and I saved websites he provides in his e-text for my personal use. E-text is vital for guidance. I loved going to class to hear about his experiences. I never considered him to "ramble"... he is adding in his experiences to make lecture more interesting.
Krantz tends to talk ALOT & go off subject this can be boring. The class is all oral & tests are based on e-text readings. The class is not difficult if you read but lots of people had trouble w/ the amount of reading in my class. IF YOU KNOW THAT YOU AREN'T GOING TO READ THEN DON'T TAKE THE CLASS it's college though so you have to expect to read
Not the easiest class. I would not advise someone to take this class as an easy elective. The lectures are interesting and Dr. Krantz knows what he is talking about. However, you should not expect to get an A in this course unless you are willing to know ALL of the e-text(which is quite long),in addition to class notes.
Don't be charmed by this guy's narcissistic personality. "He has a right to be full of himself"...and he also has the right to be retarded, apparently. He can't even produce an e-text with adequate grammar, which really bolsters his credibility (sarcasm). I would avoid this guy at all costs. He rants about things that are not relevant to the test.
He talks ALOT. Tells a lot of stories about things you may think have nothing to do with the class, but actually do. Etext is very important, but annoying. The tests are easy and straight forward as long as you read and go to class. He is full of himself, but is always willing to help and is very understanding. It's an overall easy A.
Murray Krantz is the most annoying professor I've had at FSU. He's extremely full of himself and spends most of the class telling hardly-related, self-glorifying stories. He makes you buy his $50 etext straight from him and requires you to use your password for test identification so that he can KNOW you paid him his $50.
He tells great stories, but unless you read and purchase the etext, you will not pass this class. I find him really informational and his class REALLY interesting. I definitely can use this information in the future
I've taken Krantz for several classes but only because I had no other choice. He is full of himself and for no reason! I think he is an idiot with a Napoleon complex. He makes up information and terms and passes it off as proven fact. The good news is that while he thinks his classes are hard, if you can put up with his bull,it's easy to get an A.
I tried to keep an open mind with this teacher, but he clearly is a pompous jerk who is full of himself. His Etext is insanely boring and but you have to dig through it to pass. His "look at me I'm so smart" banters in class don't follow along in any particular order. Don't waste your time with this teacher
He is literally the worst professor I've ever had. He stands in class and tells self centered stories about how absolutely fantastic he is and then expects you to adore him. He thinks he is a gift to the world and that Freud is a God. The etext is a joke and makes my eyes bleed. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
Even though he is very obnoxious and hard to listen to, the information is really interesting. He gives good examples that help you understand. The e-text was boring but if you read it and go to class you will get an A.
Dr. Krantz may be pompous but it is b/c he knows what he's talking about. I took every class I could with him while in my undergrad program, believing that it could be the most practical knowledge I acquired. Turns out- it was. I'm currently teaching parenting classes and lifeskills with at-risk children & families & I quote him at least once a day
I personally loved this class! I learned SO much relevant information, not just information to do well on the exam. From what I've seen, only those who are genuinely interested in child development do well in the class. If you go to class every day and read over the e-text before the exam, it's an easy A.
Ok-Wants his students to identify w/him. Just go w/it. Find a way it will help your grade. Your not there to like him or make friends. You probably won't like him. Use the etext for an outline for his exams. Fill in with notes. Get a good grade, don't look back and move on to better things.
Krantz was one of the best teachers I've had in college. He has some pretty awesome stories that really help you understand the course material. Yes he may seem kind of proud, but he has a lot of info that will be of use. This is one of the most useful classes I've had! You learn stuff for real life in this class! I def recommend taking this class!
Dr. Krantz is absolutely incredible. It's very evident that he knows exactly what he's talking about, and he loves it. There is a lot of information, but as long as you read the etext and attend lecture you will be fine! The information is very interesting and applicable to real life, and Krantz is very engaging so it's not hard to pay attention.
Overall, wasn't a bad class. He tells a lot of stories and doesnt cover that much info during lectures, so you must read all of his etext. But I learned things applicable to real-life...
Dr. Krantz is a very nice and helpful teacher. His exams are the only thing your grade is based on, with exception of an option 10 point extra credit assignment. If you go to class, it is a fairly easy A, if not, you can still manage an A with good study from his novel. He is a great teacher, and I recommend taking him
Dr. Krantz is one of my favorite professors. He genuinely cares about his students and wants us all to succeed and provides us with insight to make us better people and parents for our future children. The class was very easy and interesting for me. Lots of useful info! I suggest this class for anyone, even nonmajors
Hands down one of THE best professors at FSU. He genuinely cares about what he is teaching and everyone taking the course. Very helpful, and at times pretty comical! Great guy overall and I definitely would recommend him to anyone taking the course! He is especially fond of anyone in the "Friday Club" as well...
Mr. Krantz is a good teacher and really knows about the subject but I would not take this class online again. I needed one more lower level class to take before I graduate so I took it online. The tests are not that hard if you study but the work load is ridiculous. You have to write papers(2-4 pages) due each week. Not worth taking online.
Knowledgeable teacher who gives lots of real-life examples to illustrate concepts. Students have to buy his e-book. Hard to know what to take notes on at first, but I enjoyed his class because it didn't feel like just another boring lecture. Tests were fair & he was very helpful if you ever needed clarification. Extra credit was SO worth it!
He writes his own text for this time around too. The exams are 10 page written papers over his e-text. He doesn't accept information contrary to things he has pointed out in the text or in the lectures. I'm sure beyond the god complex he's a nice guy but this class is a lot more difficult than it needs to be.
Absolutely terrible. He teaches only his opinion. He never speaks a word of the test or what is on it. Doesn't give clear expectations on what he wants and writes his own book. The etext has so many grammatical errors it's hard to understand what he's trying to say. Lectures and etext reading doesn't correlate. Just an overall bad experience.
HIs class is very hard. I recommend that you go to class as often as humanly possible but make sure you get the book because most info comes from it. No attendance taken but this is a difficult class no doubt.
I enjoyed Dr. Krantz's class. Yes, you have to read the book in order to do well on tests but the book is simply written. If you need help on a concept, he is always willing to help you understand. There is a lot of information to learn for each test so do not wait until the day before to start studying! Grade based on 3 tests and 1 short paper.
Dr. Krantz is one of the best professors I've had at Florida State. He wrote his own E-text that is cheap and you have to buy for class. He explains everything in detail. But you also have to read the book. If you read the book and take good notes in class. Its an guaranteed A. I would take him again in a heartbeat.
His tests cover material that is not in lecture or etext.Difficult to make A but should make a B. Doesn't give clear expectations on what he wants and writes his own book. The etext has so many grammatical errors it's hard to understand what he's trying to say. It was hard to follow where he was in lecture to etext.
One of the best professors I've had so far at FSU. GO TO CLASS. It will help you in the long run. His stories help connect the concepts a lot! Also- make sure to go on Fridays, he likes his "Friday Club" and people that sit in the front. Definitely recommend taking his class MWF. Attend every class, study the etext, and you will be golden!
Krantz' class had interesting information that he emphasized with personal stories and Youtube videos. Definitely buy the Ebook, because it is essential to do well on the tests! I rarely went to class and just read/outlined the chapters before the test and did fine in the class!
I absolutely loved Dr. Krantz. He is a wonderful professor and a great person in general. His office door was always open for questions and advice. You must buy the etext for this class or you will not do well on the tests and you want to do well on the tests as they are 90% of your final grade!
By far my favorite teacher that I have had at FSU! I love Dr. Krantz, he gets you engaged and really enjoys what he teaches. Gave an inspirational speech the first week that really did something for me and pushed me to do my absolute best and be the best I can be! I recommend taking him whenever you get the chance! You will be happy you did :)
He's a nice & funny guy. But the class is rather disorganized & pretty hard to follow cause he goes off on tangents (also no slides or anything only lecture). A lot of info isn't covered in class bc of the stories & excitement over 1 small aspect covered all of class (but hey, he's passionate). He gives good advice but a lot of info is opinionated.
Class isn't interesting. You can pass with a B or higher without ever attending class. He talks around in circles and goes off on a tangent very frequently. Only about 3 topics will be discussed per lecture (ergo, he wastes time a lot). Class isn't difficult. There's a required essay (idk why). Thinks he's funny. He's not. Boring. You must read.
Great class. Very informative and all material is applicable to real life. He is so passionate about what he teaches and it really shows through his lectures. You MUST read the etext to perform well on the exams. An A is definitely attainable just read thoroughly & attend class. Would take him again for sure; he knows what he is talking about!
Required textbook for the class is written by Krantz and is filled with tons of errors. I got solid B's on every exam and still got a C+ in the class because I missed one assignment while sick that turned out to be 10% of our grade! SYLLABUS VERY UNCLEAR. This class ruined my GPA. I recommend taking with someone else.
He really cares about the class material and is passionate about what he teaches. He does interject his own opinion a lot, but it keeps the class interesting. Going to class is helpful for the test because some of the questions are word for word what he says in class, but it's still possible to get a high B on exams if you read the textbook.
His text book is online only and is about as bad as rubbing sandpaper into your eyes, seriously. He went on about how great Freud and Piaget were for over TWO WEEKS. He tests on material he doesnt cover in class, as well as material not in the etext thats only mentioned once in lecture. If possible seriously take this with a different professor.
Its sad that people think Krantz isn't a good teacher. He is a wonderful professor that is very old school. Yes you have to work hard but thats what college is all about. He prepares you well if you do the work and follow along to the notes. He wrote the textbook so the lecture and textbook are identical. Do your work and you will pass.
The only grades are 3 tests & a paper. His tests are pretty tough, just know the material well & you'll be fine. He is passionate about the material, yeah, but he is also arrogant & self-righteous. While he gives all sides of the material, he teaches his own opinion. No ppts, just (boring) lecture. Book is terrible, but ESSENTIAL to passing.
Grading scale is really weird, it's 3 tests 90 & a paper 10. If you do badly on a test you're screwed. Lecture wise he is very boring and harps over things. On tests some of the info isn't in his lectures OR textbook, he just expects you to know it. Im an A student and got a B+. Its not a bad class but if its not required I would not take it.
Dr. Krantz was awesome. I took his class at 9:30, which is early for me, and I hardly ever skipped class. If you go to class and read, you will do fine in the class. Do not take his class if you are not actually interested in Child Development. He is very educated and opinionated but I learned a lot.
His lectures are interesting & he has great stories to go along. I was a Friday club member until mid spring hit (like he warns you). I suggest reading the etext as the class goes on to keep up (I didn't). I received A's on the first tests & expect the same for the noncumulative final. Grade only consists of 3 tests, study hard & know every detail!
I enjoyed his lectures although sometimes they can feel long and dragging. He is a nice guy and very knowledgeable. There are 3 tests, each 13 of your grade. Go to class, take notes and read the E-text (and don't wait until right before the exam). If you study well and read the E-text thoroughly its definitely possible to get an A on every exam.
Dr. Krantz is one of those professors that you either love or hate but myself and all of my friends loved him! He was entertaining and made learning so much more enjoyable than many other professors. He doesn't give away easy grades but if you put in the effort you will do well. I'd recommend any and all of his classes.
Best professor I ever had. I had to work hard for my A, but it was worth it. If you get one of the top 12 grades on any of his tests, he emails you personally to congrgulate you and encourage you, which is unlike any professor at FSU.
His class was extremely hard if you did not read or pay attention in class. There are only 3 exams (the only grades in the class) so you actually have to learn the material. Overall, his classes were entertaining and interesting. I just hated reading but it helped me actually LEARN rather than memorize.
It isn't hard to pass this class AS LONG AS YOU GO TO CLASS, PAY ATTENTION, AND READ THE TEXTBOOK. It's pretty simple. You HAVE TO read the book and also attend class and pay attention. Some info is in the book and not in the lecture and some info in the lecture is not in the book and it will ALL be on the test. Love the class though. Great speaker
favorite professor at fsu. extremely knowledgable, he really tries to make his lectures interesting too (he's humorous sometimes). getting an A in this class is pretty straightforward. study for the tests based off the e-text, supplement with your notes, and you will do well. i feel like i will remember what dr krantz has taught when i'm a mom.
Dr. Krantz is a difficult, but fair teachers. He provides clear expectations of his course and he sticks to them. Only grades in his class are three tests, so it is imperative that you put in the effort all semester, or your grade will suffer. Lectures are long, but they can be interesting from time to time. Not a bad teacher, but not the best.
First time I took him I really disliked him, he has an air about him that I couldn't understand. On top of that, I never went to class and minimally studied. However, when I retook him I attended lectures and read and took notes on the book and in class and passed the tests easily. You have to attend lectures and read the book.
By far one of my favorite professors at FSU. He is so passionate about what he teaches and makes lectures interesting. Going to lecture and reading the etext is vital. If you put in the work, you'll get a good grade and plus the information is relevant to all future parents. I don't see how anyone could dislike him or this class.
Honestly, this class is what you make of it - I missed a lot of lectures, put off studying for exams until the last minute, and never went to him for help or questions, and barely slid by with a B-. The thing is, he's amazing with his lectures, tells you his expectations and keeps with them, and is always there for help if you're willing to ask.
He's obnoxious and thinks he has the key to raising kids, he also has a way of insulting people I wasn't a fan of. With that being said as long as you go to class and read the Etext you should get a good grade.
He is VERY knowledgable in his field and he is willing to work with you. Not an easy class, but if you communicate with him, you will be fine. He's very fully of himself, but that's partially because he can be. Take him. Learn something. apply it to your future or current kids. Knowledge is key!
I was nervous to take this class in the beginning due to the mixed reviews but can honestly say this was the only class I enjoyed going to. His sense of humor isn't for everyone but he is a great teacher with so much knowledge and passion. Really loved this class and would definitely recommend!
Dr. Krantz was by far my favorite professor at FSU. He is truly inspirational and he has a passion for teaching that isn't found in most professors nowadays. He is also extremely knowledgable and cares about each and every one of his students, which is evident when you visit his office hours and attend lectures. Put in the effort and he will too!
The bad thing about this class is that Your final grade is based on 3 tests, and the tests are very detail oriented, so you have to read the textbook and go to his lectures in order to do well. He is a very good teacher, though, and thoroughly explains everything in a way that makes it easy to understand. He's also hilarious!
Dr. Krantz is by far one of my most favorite professors I've ever had. I'm a visual person, so I need power points, however he rarely turns the projector on. His lectures are all spoken. But don't let this sway you from taking him. He is an AMAZING lecturer, and has the best stories. He wrote the textbook so creating a study guide is easy. Take him
Dr. Krantz is an incredible professor, and I genuinely looked forward to his class. However, his 3 exams that make up the final grade are ROUGH. I studied for days on end and still ended up with a B in the class. I love Dr. Krantz, and his class, but I was incredibly disappointed with my grade. I wish he held review sessions for his exams.
he does not take attendance but if you dont go he notices and you WILL NOT do well!!! he knows what he is talking about but he totally comes across as a know-it-all. learn the vocab because I did not realize until the last test that thats where the majority of the test questions come from and I would have gotten an A if i knew that ahead of time :/
He doesn't use powerpoint so you have to rely on his lecture and he tends to ramble. He thoroughly enjoys talking about sex which could be funny but there's something a little off about him. I took this class because I want to work with children but he made the class too much about parenting and too little about profession. Very arrogant.
I liked Krantz a lot the first time I took him but now not so much. The entire class grade is based on two tests which makes it difficult to do well if you don't do well on one. VERY lecture heavy so make sure you attend. Generally helpful if you ask questions but sort of "high and mighty" when it comes to talking with students.
There are only 3 grades in this class(all exams). His lectures are super boring and he gets off topic a lot. His exams are pretty hard and you have to study a ton.
tests have very little to do with what he rambles about in class. only 3 tests make up the final grade. Interesting class and information overall, but pretentious professor
Although he tends to ramble a lot during his lectures, very manageable class for the most part. Your grade consists of 3 exams so you must try to do well on all 3 to have a good grade in his class. Attendance isn't mandatory but I recommend you attend because there are material he talks about during class that isn't in the textbook.
he's annoying and i hated lecture but if you read the book and know his vocab you can get a B on the test. only 3 test grades, people said if you went to lecture you'd get an A but i hated going. he knows what he's talking about but you need to study for the test- and you need to buy the textbook
He is one of my favorite professors thus far. He relates real life to his lectures so well and makes it very interesting. Lectures are important because his tests are based solely of the lectures and his book. I've learned so much valuable information not only about the class but life in general!
Krantz is a pretty good professor, he's very opinionated. Three exams make up your grade. He wrote his own text book and the exams are based off his lectures and the readings. Doesn't use power points or anything like that so you have to go to class to get good notes.
Krantz is am amazing professor who is extremely passionate about the subject. If you are interested in the subject than you will enjoy this class. His tests are based off what he says in class and what is in the textbook (which he wrote) as long as you read the textbook and take notes in class you could study for two days and get an A.
Krantz is an amazing teacher. Very nice and helpful during office hours. If you study for like 3 days before the tests you will get an A if you outline the etext and show up for class most of the time or get the notes from someone who always goes.
First of all, go to class. Listen to the lectures. They aren't that bad if you actually like the subject that you are studying. Krantz is very knowledgeable about what he teaches -- he wrote the textbook. Exam one is really easy, two is the hardest, and three is moderate. Your final grade comes from the three exams. Just take notes and go to class!
Professor Krantz is not the best professor (he is extremely boring, difficult, and frequently strays off topic). Your final grade is composed of three exams (and that's it)-- 60 questions, multiple choice. As long as you intently read the chapters and take notes you don't need to attend class (I went like 5 times all semester).
Krantz is one of the best professors I've ever had. He's so knowledgeable on the topic and his lectures are always so fascinating. Definitely go to class - his exams are split 50/50 between the textbook and his lectures. Also, keep up with reading the textbook as it parallels with the lecture and makes it easier to understand. Honestly, best class!
There are 3 tests. 70% comes from lecture and 30% comes from random details in the book. Read each chapter once and take notes and also take notes in class and it is a very doable A.
Don't take this professor if you have the option of someone else. He makes this class way harder than it needs to be and he's very rude about it, its almost as if he gets pleasure from students not doing well in his class. He is also very opinionated and talks about him self a lot.
I took this class fall semester and I loved it so much! He really knows what he's talking about and doesn't mind letting you know that, so he does come off as arrogant. If you're looking to learn, take this class! If you aren't, then you might want to go elsewhere. I enjoyed him so much I currently have him for a different class. Highly recommend!
Best professor I have had at FSU. Take him if you can. Go to lectures and study for the three tests and you'll pass.
Go to office hours and engage with this teacher !! It will be all worth it in the end. Must read the textbook to pass, test were fairly difficult but studying will help you pass.
Dr. Krantz has a laid-back teaching style. He writes the textbook and usually everything from lecture is in the chapter. Test 1 is the easiest especially if you attend the lectures (95). Test 2 was the hardest, make sure to attend lecture (89). Test 3 was also pretty easy just read the chapters (92). Take time to read the book and study.
Dr. Krantz was one of my favorite professors thus far. If you go to class every day and office hours, you will pass. His class was one of the more challenging ones but I feel as if I learned so much. He does come off as intimidating and arrogant, but if you have been coming to class, and then go to office hours, he is very helpful.
Dr. Krantz is a really great teacher! I really enjoyed his class and I learned a lot! There are three multiple choice tests. If you read the textbook, go to class, and take notes the tests are not hard. Krantz is a great storyteller; however, he can get political. If you go to class everyday he does notice and will respect you a lot more.
Great teacher. Read the Etext and you should be fine to pass the class with a great grade.
Great professor. Extremely knowledgeable and I enjoyed the PowerPoint free lectures. If you take good notes and read the Etext you will get an A. Dont skip since he doesnt post the lectures! He definitely notices who comes regularly and will respect you a whole lot more if he can recognize your face.
Dr. Krantz is the best professor I've had at FSU. His lectures are amazing, I learned a lot about child development and lots of new things. We had three exams, and you have to buy his online book, which is really interesting. You have to study for the exams, read the book, but also notes and going to class is super important.
WORST PROFESSOR I'VE EVER HAD. Junior. Only graded on 3 exams. No structure in class Questions in exam do not reflect on etext/lecture DO NOT take this professor. Attendance not mandatory - ETEXT must buy Not caring for students - TEST are hard ! Lectures are mediocre at BEST Thinks very highly of himself
Dr. Krantz is the best teacher I've ever had. If you show up & read the etext, you will do fine. He cares about his students and has a lot of experience in the course. Doesn't do powerpoints but his lectures are so good & he tells personal stories so it helps you learn. Tests are exactly like the etext & lectures, so getting an A isnt that hard
Prof Krantz is the best. He might come off as arrogant to some but is really approachable and full of information. If you go to his lectures, read each chapter, and study at least a couple days before each exam (there's 3) you will get an A. His lectures are actually interesting and funny. The class is a very doable A you just need to put effort in
Krantz is a good professor, I just don't like the organization of the class. The class is fully lectures by him and is only graded by 3 tests and he just tells you what chapters to read out of his etext. Its difficult to try to study. Krantz does know what he is talking about but he often rambles off to talk about himself. Okay class overall.
Lecture heavy. I wish he used powerpoints, mostly because it helps keep me on track, but his lectures were still pretty interesting. The only grades are three exams. Make sure you read the etext and understand the application of the principles, not just definitions. It was a pretty good class and I enjoyed his class.
Only 3 exams and no extra credit given. He just stands there and lectures the whole class with no power points or anything so it's super boring. They're almost word for word from the e-text (he wrote it) so attendance is not mandatory, exams are hard even when you attend class. I usually enjoy this subject matter but I genuinely hated this class.
I've never been great at studying and I'd consider myself an average student. This class is difficult but Kranz is an extremely caring and inspirational guy. He noticed my improvements and took them into account. He is also very understanding. My advice is if you have him reach out to him for help.
Be ready to read. A lot of question content comes from an online text book that he wrote himself. His lectures included some information that will be on the exams but there is a lot more info in the lectures that is not on the exams. The way he worded the questions on the exams were very confusing making them very hard. Only 3 grades are exams.
This professor is inappropriate, and terrible. He makes weird and pervy jokes and he even said that he followed one of his old students to a bathroom and waited outside for 20 minutes for her. He is uncomfortable and rude. He wrote his own textbook, which is based off of his opinions and is riddled with spelling and grammatical errors. Horrible.
One of the best professors I've had. Definitely a difficult class due to how much information has to be remembered but all his lectures are interesting so it makes it easy to follow. He adds humor to what he's talking about so it's not all boring. Reading the textbook is key to doing well on the exams.
Hes a great lecturer! The only thing is, the grade in the class is based on 3 exams. As long as you come to class and read the etext youll get an A on the exams. Also, during lecture, there is no powerpoint or anything so you just have to listen.
Nice professor, boring but sometimes good lectures. Also, the grade in the class is based on 3 exams and no extra credit. You do have to read a lot and the Etext in my opinion is boring and extremely long. Exams are multiple question, 50 questions. Easy if u read and study from the Etext
Attendance isn't mandatory but he tests on concepts that were only discussed in class and not in the etext (even though he wrote it himself). He also doesn't use powerpoints or even outlines for his lectures, he just drones on and on. But he's very good at explaining and providing real examples. Sometimes his validity is questionable.
Dr. Krantz is amazing! Attendance isn't mandatory and the only grades are three really easy exams. The lectures are engaging and interesting but if you miss you can catch up by reading the textbook, which is online and super easy to understand. He's very approachable and wants to help! If you've been around kids this class is especially easy.
This class was relatively easy if you read his online textbook, but the professor was totally unprofessional and full of himself. He spent half of class talking about how he was the smartest person in every room.
IMO, best professor I've had at FSU. I know many students who don't like him, but I feel much more confident working with children after taking this class. Study hard for the three tests, and you'll be fine. You'd probably be fine by just reading the textbook, but if you actually want to learn, you can learn so much about kids from his lectures.
Take him for Child Development to acclimate to his teaching style to make this class (Child Guidance) easier to understand.
A very intelligent and confident professor who knows what he s talking about. Go to office hours and get to know him for a better experience.
The easiest way to succeed in this class is to read the textbook cover to cover and then pick out obscure details. I realized after the first exam that since he writes the textbook, nitpicky details seem like a reasonable question to ask. Going to lectures will give you visuals & funny stories that can help put some of the more specific concepts.
Read the text! Only 3 exams and those are the only grades you'll be given. He wrote his own textbook so he knows the information inside and out. Very caring and smart professor who knows what he's talking about. Would take again!
Krantz's class is all lecture based with a few videos. I usually love this subject matter but him as a person made me strongly dislike this class. I would attend every class and even saw him for extra help and listened to everything he told me to do in order to do better and I did not. Instead of going to class, read the book during that time.
Although class isnt mandatory, you should always go and write done every little thing he says. He is a great professor and life coach. Very nice and understanding. Ask questions. Hes awesome
At first I didn't really like Krantz as a teacher because i never had a teacher who just primarily lectures. The test are mostly definitions so read the textbook!!!! He does not always go over every term during class so make sure you pay attention to the etext. I would go to class because some things he says are important for the test.
I love that he wrote the textbook because it means that everything is actually important. I really enjoyed the lectures because I was interested, but if this is not a subject you're interested in I would not recommend.
amazing professor! he can be intimidating and egotistical, but he knows what he is talking about. If you want to work with children his lectures will provide you with real situations that you may come across and teach you the skills needed for those circumstances.
Easily one of my favorite classes at Florida State. Lectures are interesting and he truly cares about his students. Although attendance is not mandatory, if you show up and listen this class is an easy A!!
Dr. Krantz is one of the best at FSU! As long as you show up to class and skim through the textbook you will get an A in the class. He makes the lectures really enjoyable and funny. The material the material is really easy to understand. He really cares about how his students do and will curve the exam if the average drops.
Simply amazing! This class will not be an easy A, but it is possible if you put the effort in. Krantz is one of my favorite professors ever. Go to class, read the text, EARN the grade you desire. Simple.
I promise, if you read the textbook and memorize ALL of the key terms, you will pass. He wrote his own textbook and there are so many grammatical errors in it I felt like I got dumber reading it.
Your entire grade in the class is based off of 3 tests. He doesn't "believe" in extra credit or other assignments because he doesn't have a TA to grade them according to him. His tests aren't hard but each test I had around 35 pages of notes I needed to memorize. Hes really sarcastic and rude, making me never want to listen to him lecture for 2 hrs
The only grades in the class are 3 exams, but there is no cumulative final which was nice. I only went to class a few times but I read the textbook in depth and made quizlets of key terms. If you apply yourself and actually learn the material it is an easy A
The class grade is based only on three exams. These are fairly simple to do well on if you go to class and take good notes as well as read the textbook and make outlines. The exams have materials from both lecture and the text, and they do not both contain the same material so it is important to do both. Kranz is also very passionate and kind.
Hardest teacher ever. Entire grade was based off of two 10 page essays. Essays that are based on his own theory that he came up with, so he expects it to be very specific. Impossible. Slaved on the first one and made a 63. So so so so hard.
He is a very good professor, the only downfall is there are 3 exams in his class and that is it, no curve at all. You neeeed to read the textbook.
This class is not bad at all. The entire course grade is based off 3 exam grades, that's it. If you put it in the effort like reading the textbook and studying hard, you will do fine. The tests are very straightforward and a lot of vocabulary terms. This class isn't mandatory but definitely go and take good notes and listen to him and you'll be ok.
Don't take Krantz if you can avoid it. He lectures for the whole hour and 15 without a powerpoint or anything supplemental, rambles in circles about topics for 30 minutes, you sit through the class and only learn two things that weren't in the book. If you dont go to class you will miss things that will be tested on and he doesnt allow note sharing
there are only three grades the whole semester and they are the three exams. no final. overall, good class and good professor. I just did not like how there were very little grades because the exams were hard.
Overall this class isn't too bad if you're willing to do the work. If you show up to class, read and take notes from the textbook, and study hard you'll be fine. His class consists of only 3 tests, and the material covered is 50% from his lectures and 50% from the book. Attendance isn't mandatory, but he lectures the entire time
Dr. Krantz is amazing! Don't let the 10 page papers scare you. It's an outline, and you just have to fill it out. It's not an actual research paper, but it will always end up at 10 pages because he gives you a ton of info! All oral lecture, you'll read his own book, and there's the 2 papers, one optional exam, and one extra credit!
He doesn't have slides so he just talks aimlessly for the entire class and it is really not engaging. He talks in circle and nothing makes sense. You have to read the book and I have no idea what he even talks about in class its random stories half the time. Only 3 tests make up your grade which sucks if you do bad on one. Would avoid at all cost.
Dr. Krantz is a great teacher in my opinion. He personalizes the class information by including a lot of stories and examples. He tends to go off on unrelated subjects during his lectures sometimes so you definitely do need to read and study the etext bc he will forget to mention things. There are only 3 exams and no other grades so do good
Dr. Krantz is my favorite professor I've taken a class with at FSU. He truly is passionate about child development and seeks to see achievement in his students. Not only that, but his classes are enjoyable to attend since he provides lectures based off of "story telling" rather than listening to someone read from a powerpoint. 100% take him.
Absolutely loved this class and Dr. Krantz! He is an amazing professor and cares about his students. I enjoyed the lectures rather than learning from just a powerpoint because the material stuck better. Just actually read the book, take notes during class, and study! I would definitely take this class again with Dr. Krantz, I learned so much.
If you are looking for more than just taking a class based on lectures from a power point, this is for you. Dr. Krantz has a way of making you look at your life with a new and improved perspective. He is brilliant, determined, energetic, caring, and so inspirational. Go to class, be a part of the 'Friday club', and be sure to read the book.
Lectures for the entire class period, without a powerpoint. Wouldn't recommend taking him early in the morning because he could put you to sleep lol. 3 exams most questions pulled straight from textbook. Literally just read the entire textbook and you'll pass. Don't really need to go to class tbh, only a few lecture materials aren't in the textbook
There are only three tests so if you get a C on one the odds of you bringing it to an A is low. There are no other materials or extra credit to study with besides the textbook that he wrote, which definitely doesn't have all the stuff on the test or even enough to help you study. Doesn't do a powerpoint, talks too fast to take notes. Do not take
When he's lecturing on course content it's fine, but he goes off topic far too often and preaches his views on life. He spent 15 minutes once on how bikes are bad for a man's sack, and daily says how technology is a plague. He's passionate about his topic, but it's hard to tell what is his advice and opinion versus what is academic content
The lectures can be pretty interesting, however the entire grade is based off of 3 exams which is super stressful. It makes it even worse because he doesn't give an outline for what will be on the exam it's just "read my textbook." Not a bad class, it is pretty interesting but you have to work for the A.
HARD. I am serious please do not take this class. There are only 3 tests and they're all from the textbook that of course he wrote. No extra credit at all. His test wording for his questions are extremely hard and he goes out of his way to try and trick you and mess you up even if you know the material. Do yourself a favor and skip this teacher.
This guy is pretty much unavoidable for the family and child science major. He's like the gatekeeper. You pass him you will be good. His class is only composed of 3 EXAMS! 3 EXAMS! Nothing else. If you fail 1 test you might as well drop. He lectures from voice no powerpoint. His book isn't written the best... All you have to do is read read read!
I loved Dr. Krantz. He only has 3 tests. He writes his own textbook and lectures without slides or anything. He is very knowledgable to the point where its intimidating. I would take notes before class and go to lecture and I ended up getting A's on every test. Its easy to skip class because he doesnt take attendance but going will help you learn.
grade only consists of 2 big papers but he is very clear as to what he wants out of you. he wrote his own textbook, so you will need it for class. Go to lecture! he'll say "secret" things that he wants on the papers that he doesn't say anywhere else. you have to work for the grade but if he sees the effort he gives extra credit
Dr. Krantz is great. He is such a genuine professor and you can tell he loves what he does. He is very approachable and understanding.
One of the smartest professors I know. Graded on 3 exams, - test 3 was the easiest, 2 was the hardest, & 1 was in between. If you make chapter outlines & attend lecture you can get an A. Attendance not mandatory, but needed to do well because he shares info not in the text. Was understanding & made the exam a bit easier during the COVID semester.
No online material or aids, he only lectures. Only three exams make u your grade.
Three tests make up the whole grade. Very interesting lectures. Just make sure to attend the lectures and read the assigned Etext and you will do great in the class.
As long as you attend class and read the textbook the course is not hard. Some days he will ramble but he always finds a way to bring the story back to the topic he is trying to emphasize. He doesn't use powerpoint so if you don't go to class the only way to catch up is with the textbook. Overall, he is nice and the class isn't hard to pass.
Dr. Krantz is a wonderful professor! I loved his lecture style and it was very easy to stay engaged. You can tell that he really enjoys what he does. Attend lecture and pay attention, you'll do well in the class. Dr. Krantz is very helpful and cares about your learning!
Whole grade based on 3 tests; most of the material is from the book, abt 30% from lecture. So yeah you have to teach yourself 70% of the test material, but it's not impossible. He does ramble on about his subjective takes on things occasionally, but the lectures aren't always boring. Tests are p straightforward if you study and think critically
One of the worst teachers/professors I've ever had. No class materials besides the e-book he wrote himself. Poor excuse for a textbook considering it's just vague info with no sources in pdf form. Lectures are just him rambling and mostly talking about himself. Graded on 3 tests, but they're harder than they should be. 50 minutes, 60 questions.
Lectures are very interesting, make sure you attend them. You have to read the online textbook but the readings aren't too long. Make sure you study for the tests because those are the only grades in the class.
Best professor at FSU but it is NOT an easy A. Show up to every class, take notes, listen, read the textbook and youll be fine. He makes this class the most interesting class you will probably ever take. It is a struggle though if you miss a class or are slow at taking notes during a lecture. Attendance isnt mandatory but please, go.
Krantz is a professor you will remember all throughout college. make sure you go to class, take notes and READ HIS TEXTBOOK and you will be fine. Tests can be quite tricky and alot of questions come from things in his textbook. If youre in the FCS major or just interested in development take his class!
Professor Krantz was the absolute best during the pandemic! Make sure to read the textbook and watch the lectures and you should be able to pass the tests easily
Dr. Krantz is a great teacher and very available. With classes being online this fall, he ended up curving exams given the circumstances. His exams cover info from both lectures & the etext, so make sure to study both. He was very easy to reach by email/zoom meeting if you had a question. Very sweet man, wants you to do your best & learn something
Krantz discusses lots of information from the textbooks, but also things that aren't in it. I would suggest reading the chapters before class so that you can just sit and listen. The tests are vocabulary heavy as well as filled with specific facts mentioned in his lectures. Be prepared to study since you are graded by only 3 tests.
Great professor!!! He knows exactly what he is talking about! The stories he tells to go along with his lectures are hilarious and interesting. Very textbook heavy since he wrote the textbook. Go to the lectures because the tests have tricky questions. Overall loved the class!
Krantz has an awful way of teaching. 3 exams, no other grades. Textbook is written by him on a janky platform, no powerpoints, rants during lectures, no study guides. Exams are written in the most confusing way possible and studying the textbook will get you a 60. I have a 3.9 through 7 semesters and am struggling here for no reason, Dont recommend
There are 3 exams and those are the only grades. He creates the textbook himself, but not everything on the test is in the textbook so try to go to the lectures and actually listen to them. Also, I feel like I would have done better in this class if it was in person. He's not great at teaching online.
If you don't have to take this course then stay away. He has very dated information that he teaches as well as some very questionable things he makes seem like facts while they are actually just his opinions. Your entire grade is out of 3 exams and that's it. No curves.
Legit 3 exams and that's it. He showed no respect for students and laughed about fact that class average was low. Tests are 1/2 lecture and 1/2 textbook (that he wrote) and he does not give assistance so notes end up being almost 100 pages
The best professor I ever had. His tests can be challenging.. if you dont show up to class and dont do the reading. If you pay attention and do your reading the tests are not bad. He cares about his student and is very passionate about this class. I would 100% take it again.
He's the best!
