Whatever you do stay AWAY! Knows his material but unable to teach it in a method that works for the students! My class is down to 1/2 of it's beginning size and it's only spring break!
Do not take him. He is very unclear. I have never been so confused. If you have a question..to bad we don't have time. He has take home quizes..hard, testes even harder. No homework and very little chance to get pt.s(just tests and quizes). Do not take!
Although he is well versed in his subject matter, his teaching methods are incoherent. He is easily flustered, and cannot always answer questions that he assigns. Argumentative when it comes to questions regarding you grading and no set grading standard.
Arslan does care about his student?s understanding of the material. He is currently in the middle of completing his doctorate, which is reflected in his inability to help during office hours. Exams are irrelevant to the material he covers. I have never studied so much for a class and felt to ill-prepared every time I sat down to take a test.
I think he sucked at math as a child and is trying to get he doctorate to prove a point to someone that doesnt care.
I posted two below and accidently posted the ease as a 5, I meant 1.
i took calc over the summer '08 - very helpful. math is not the easiest subject for people - it's not him. i read these comments and it sounds like these people may not be ready for the classes they take. he is a good teacher.
I was the 1st to review this teacher. To let the poster below know I earned a 89% for my final grade. The reason he was(maybe still is) so difficult is because during my class he made up his own tests with problems we were never taught how to approach. He would get vexed in the front of the class we people asked questions. One should be eager t
to my below post. to teach or not teach at all. He would get upset, talk down to us, and was just an unpleasant teacher. Maybe he mellowed out now. If he is still as I remember him STAY AWAY!
I took college algebra with Arslan in fall 09 semester. I have been a very good math student in the past, however I have never encountered a more rude and unprofessional teacher in my studies. Arslan was hard to understand, demmening to students, and never allowed enough time for exams. I am taking college algebra online and I am learning lots more
I took survey of calc with Arslan and he is definitely not an easy teacher. He gives a large workload at times and his grading is pretty harsh at times. However, he made pretty straight forward practice tests. If you show up to class AND do the selected exercises you can for sure get a B or better.
I hated math for 18 years, and because of this guy i now love math! he's clear, understandable, funny, and very helpful! Take his class!!
Taking college algebra in a summer semester. He cannot effectively teach this relatively simple, and mostly intuitive, math in such a short period. Here I am, on the eve before the final exam, and I'm learning more from watching YouTube videos. The textbook is much cleared also. He says "turd" when he means "third" which is always Hilarious.
He is the most rude, unclear, unprofessional math teacher I have ever had in my life!! He expects you to do everything when he wants, how he wants however he will make exceptions for himself all the time. He's very indecisive so hopefully you love surprises. (ex. On the eve of finals, he added more chapters AND placed those questions on the final)
This guy really needs to learn how to teach, he would confuse himself while doing examples on the board. Very tough to understand and learn from.
Everything said by the people with the horrible reviews are right. RUN AWAY! Don't be fooled by the fake good reviews his classes are hard even if the material were easy. He cannot teach!
I had Aslan for Math 0700, there wasn't a lot of teaching going on. you learn a lot from the ALEX Software, occasionally he will try to explain the topic but he make it a bit harder in his explanation. But Overall he meant well, Student should put in the most effort.
Very hard "homeworks" (which are basically take home quizzes. Test questions range from easy to moderately hard. He is a stickler for proper notation. He is a very nice guy and willing to help if you have questions. Available via e-mail at all hours, as well as office hours. You definitely have to work for a good grade.
Mr. Arslan has a great knowledge of the material, and works very hard to match it with useful examples. Lecture based learning, with overhead and marker board heavily used in class. He provides notes in advance, and uses online homework. Tests can be difficult. English is not his first language, but he can be easily understood.
He knows math really well, and the class is organized. Lectures cover from definitions and theorems to proofs and problems. Homework is harder than the tests. In order to get a good grade, you have to spend a lot time though.
Arslan isnt a very good teacher. He usually knows the content.. Its very apparent he doesn't look over his lessons and problems before he comes to class. We often spend way too much time on one problem because he doesn't understand it..in the process confusing us students. Then he speeds through other problem. Most students dont understand his class

This class is done on Aleks which is the first issue. Arslan knows how to do the problems but has a hard time explaining them to the class. He also has a hard time seeing that there is usually more than one way to find the answer to a problem. Very hard to learn from.
DO NOT Take his class. His style of teaching is horrible. Three quarters through the semester the class average was 51%. I had to go to youtube to learn the material.
He is a very nice faculty member but unfortunately he exemplified the problem with the teacher's union. He couldn't explain the material, but he sounded brilliant compared to the math tutors in the new tutoring center. His tests are kind of easy, but if you want to get a good grade, and don't have a formal math background, take a different teacher.
Assigned 5 WebAssign homework assignments due over spring break on the last day of class. Not TO DO over break, DUE DURING spring break.
Homeworks due on weekends, over break, on non-class weekdays, no in-class homework review, often starts class early. Almost no D2L use, though does provide thorough class notes, however usually only minutes before class satrts. Class usually consists of watching him solve problems on board. Seems like he finds college algebra to be beneath him.
By the third test there are only 1/3 of the people left and the class average is 40%. Do not take this prof if you want to fail and retake a class. He told us we are not working hard enough and that we should drop out because of that.
I don't really think he did a good job at teaching this class.
He does care about his students and wants them all to do well, however,he cannot successfully contribute in helping them do so. If you have been out of math for a few years this is definitely not the teacher that you want.
Very difficult professor, but calc 4 is also a higher level mathematics class. He is very intelligent, but can be harsh in grading. His hard teaching actually helped me to become stronger.
He is a hard grader, and his accent is very thick. I became used to it within half of the semester. If you meet up with him and ask him questions, he is more than willing to help. Although, he has limited availability. He is a nice man, but his grading is harsh. I would politely request all of you to search for a different prof before choosing him.
doesn't explain well ad cant understand what he's saying
Worst teacher I have ever had in my life. He told me strait to my face that I had "no hope" in passing his class. I passed with a B. Don't take him you will forever regret it. I don't know how he even still has a job. Who ever gave him a degree should be punished.
The worst teacher I have ever had. Difficult to understand the material. Don't take his class.
All homework was online and not talked about in class afterwards. I am a good student and I really like math. I didn't understand the way he explaned things. When asked questions didn't answer them clearly. He is very smart and knows what he is doing but don't take his class and expect a good grade. Class averages on tests was 50% or below.
I never take this guy again ,terrible and awful teaching person.
Awful. The entire class period all he does is problems on the board. Never time for questions. The homework problems have nothing to do with the tests. I'm still in the class, our class averages on the tests so far have been 65% and 52%. He blames us for not trying hard enough when in reality, even though he's smart,he's incapable of teaching.
great instructor
He is very smart and kind teacher but he cannot explain us 100% clearly. If you ask problems in your study, he will explain as good as he can and if you are not working very hard, you cannot get A in his class.
He obviously has a lot of love for the subjects that he teaches, but his "bedside manner" needs A LOT of work. He publicly teased students about their handwriting. Also, I took the equivalent to this class the previous year, knew most of the concepts, and still managed to end with a C...
He doesn't explain material in any detail. He blames the class for low grades even though he never took or answer any questions. My class started with 40 by the end there were 9. The best anyone scored the whole semester on a test was 59%. He actually told us he was extending the deadline on homework cause other wise no one would pass. DON'T TAKE
He is very hard to understand. Never answers any questions and barely explains how he got an answer. I spent most of this studying on my own or going to tutors. I never actually learned from him. He is sometimes very rude when you ask him questions after class.
This professor is definitely tough, however he is VERY smart too. He will really teach you the subject. Hardest professor I've had, and also the most I have learned. His classes prepared me for other math classes. He is really an easy going guy if you show up and do the work. Like any other class, you work hard, you can get an AB. No gifts though
He is a very good teacher. Gave me an appetite for Maths ! I am surprised to see a low rating on him.
Absolutely the most difficulty I have ever had with a class and professor. I struggled on the homework, even when using the help of a tutor. Lectures just consist of him talking for the class. Very hard to learn. He was not very helpful when students had questions and did not communicate. Tests were a nightmare.
I learned more from Khan Learning and Youtube than I did from this professor. Was hoping for a easy algebra course so I could re-learn some basics before Calc. Not so easy.
I love him as a person. He is sweet, funny, and genuinely interested in his students. His accent isn't bad after you get used to it. At the same time, he can be a bit impatient and is not very clear. He is not realistic about the amount of time his students have and what they are capable of doing. Sometimes he gives extra credit to make up for it.
I would recommend not taking this teacher. The majority of kids in this class drop out and his average test grade is usually D. He does know what he is teaching but he doesn't explain it well enough. Asking questions is probably one of the worst thing you can do; he can be rude or just end up confusing you more. His accent honestly wasn't that bad.
He doesn't explain things very well and moves very quickly. Average test results are anywhere from 65-75%, he offers correction opportunities. He doesn't help very much and if you ask a question in class he will most likely not be very helpful. I wouldn't recommend him.
Extremely rude and condescending professor. He is unclear and students struggle with him. Take a different professor.
His english is not clear, so he is really hard to understand. He doesn't explain things well at all. His tests are hard and don't make any sense. He was really unhelpful, when i asked question he rarely helped me. I would not recommend this teacher if you want a good grade in this class.
He's a good professor, but his tests are very tough. Class average range to about 45-65%.
I am not mathematically inclined, but I managed to get a B+. He does have an accent, but he's still easy to understand. Not an issue. He gave an extra credit point each class for showing up. Worth 5% of total grade. All homework is done online and you get 3 tries per problem. Incorrect test problems could be corrected for partial credit.
Easily the worst professor I've had at this school. Classes consist of him rushing through problems, and him being unclear and condescending when asked questions. Homework is usually time consuming and there is A LOT of it. Do not take this class.
the only thing I liked about his class was that attendance each day was one extra credit point, also we didn't use the text book at all except for homework
I didn't know a professor was capable of un teaching me. This guy made NO sense and he knew that too! He just doesn't care.. He told our class "I know all of you are going to write bad reviews about me" then laughed. Started with a class of 40 ended with 8. Run far away from this guy and don't look back. You won't regret it.
All homework is online. Each problem gets 3 tries. Study Guides w/ an answer key for the study guide are given before every test. You may redo the test questions for points back. Mustafa has an accent, but not enough where you can't understand him. Will give you a good few laughs from the sarcasm. Had him 3 semesters now. Hard but good professor:)
This teacher wasn't to hard understand, bit of an accent. He would rush through the problems without explaining himself though. The tests were very difficult, I've never had bad test anxiety, but now I do because of this guy. Do yourself a favor and save yourself from Mustafa.
I was so scared for my first day of class after seeing all these terrible readings. I am not the best with understanding accents, but him I don't have much of a problem with bcuz he talks slow. So far it hasn't bad, he's been teaching basic math easily. if you have other options with good reviews don't take him. its not too bad
Prof. Arslan was very lecture heavy but gave lots of time for homework and always would make sure we understood what was being taught. His review guides were VERY helpful for the tests and he gave lots of study time before test day. I loved the added humor he brought to the classroom and would DEFINITELY take his class again!!
Very bad teacher. Always posting homework late and rushing through problems in class. 0/10 would never take again.
There are no words to describe how horrible this professor is
Mr. Arslan goes through notes and stops to make sure you understand, but going to lecture is absolutely necessary. Super hilarious! Gives extra credit for every lecture you go to. Pay attention in lecture, do the online homework assignments, and study the study guides, you will do just fine on tests. There is a textbook, but I never used it.
very bad professor. homework posted late and due at random times. Boring/ non-understandable lectures. WORST OFFICE HOURS EVER.
Horrible teacher.
tough grader, lectures are boring, lots of extra credit. He is not qualified to teach.
The class wasnt too difficult but if you dont show up everyday and dont take notes you will not pass. Reviews are made for every test so its fairly clear what will be on it. He allows you to do corrections and gives you bonus points for attendance and group quizzes (which are super easy)
Mustafa is a relatively good professor, but if you struggle with calculus, know you will have to do some work outside of class. I used the textbook, and the tutoring center is always available if you need it. His reviews for the tests are great, and lectures are good. There's EC for attendance, and he gives test corrections. Good professor overall!
Mustafa could be the worst, absolute worst professor you could receive. Between his lack of understanding of the material and his rude, presumptuous attitude, his class was the least enjoyable 50 minute lecture I have ever had to attend. His knowledge of the material could barely be called adequate. His teaching method is outdated and ineffective.
Honestly one of the worst profs. I have even taken. I did great in both Calc I and Calc II and am just taking this class for fun. He will take off 6-7 points just for a missed negative sign. Has taken 2.5 weeks to grade my last test. Your best bet? Jump off a cliff to save yourself the trouble before taking this class.
The tests were very challenging, but the class is easy to succeed in. Extra credit was given to students that show up. Fridays, we took group quizzes and those were also extra credit. In addition to the extra points from attendance and quizzes he offered corrections on tests. If you take advantage of the extra points offered, you should get an A!
Overall, I feel like he just sucks at being a teacher for the lack of patience he has on his students. For example, you'll get called out on why you don't understand the lecture if you ever dared to raise your hands to ask a question. He'll make you feel guilty instead of guiding you to success. I would not take this diabolical of a class again.
Don't choose this professor. Confusing and misleading schedule, homework was due after tests, assignments didn't prepare me for the tests, didn't respond to emails, no extensions if you miss a deadline by a day, lectures were confusing and help was minimal. Don't take this professor /:
Awful. He constantly messes up on test including problems that are missing parts, unsolvable, written incorrectly and then goes back and graded them on a curve after he realizes. Cancels office hours all the time. Hard to understand.
Very tough grader. Worst part is that he expects you to do everything the way he does it which makes it very restrictive to seek out other resources/tutors if you don't understand something. That teaching style prohibits a students ability to be creative and think differently. I would not recommend professor Arslan.
When i first read the comments here I was really afraid to take his class, but there were no need to. He is a good teacher he explains well the topics always try to answer questions and let everybody solve problems on the board which by the way give extra credits. Be attentive in class and just redo the exercises by yourself and it will be good.
The lack of information provided made this course no possible to complete. He doesnt announce what to do for the day, and he doesnt post homework questions. He doesnt post ahead so youre stuck working day by day. He lacks personality and his videos are long and dont make sense at all. Dont take this class.
Does not teach in class. Instead, there are 45 min videos given four days a week for each lesson. Classes are used to go through practice problems, not teaching. Very hard to keep up and actually learn. Great for experienced math people but not great for everyone else. Tests not taken in class, online and weird submission for all assignments.
At the time of composing this, I am both a former trigonometry and a current calculus student in his accelerated summer class. I can attest his classes are difficult, although assuming you put in the work and stay committed you should succeed--as he wants you to. He requires you to brave hardships alone; despite that you can always ask for help.
The long video lectures were confusing and hard to understand, most if not all information (like how to do certain problems and definitions for terms) could only be found in these videos and notes. The notes from the lecture videos were missing a lot of key information. Very few assignments. Long/difficult quizzes/tests, some in person.
This professor is the worst—avoid at all costs! Whether you attend class or not, you won't understand much. He pulls numbers out of nowhere without explanation, his accent is hard to follow, and class time is spent nonstop writing. Study guides don't match tests, making them useless. Expect daily 2-4 homework assignments, some taking way too long.
This professor is absolutely terrible. I have no words. Just no. Don't join this class.
Exams were difficult, no notes posted on D2L. Please avoid his class.
I have troubles understand lecture note nhu cc
I saw a lot of bad reviews here, but I think they're being unfair. If you're willing to put in the time and effort for the course, he'll respect that. He was perfectly willing to explain things, and he was honestly fairly lenient when it came to grading. He even gave the class test corrections a few times.
Withdrawing at a D+, I'm usually great at math but he is not understandable. Lots of examples but no processing time or explanation on how we get to the step(s). Unfriendly and intimidating, cracked jokes at students expenses. I never want to talk or offer answers in class in case he takes a jab at me if I'm wrong. Killed my confidence entirely.
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. On Day 1 the room was full, now barely anyone shows up. I was just doing my notes and someone beside me wasn't, and the teacher called him out: “Where's your notebook?” I'm like, “Is this dude serious?” Who cares if someone isn't taking notes, just leave them alone. Get ready for a whole story because this gets ridiculous.
AVOID THIS GUY HES THE WORST TEACHER EVER SO MUCH HOMEWORK AND THE EXAMS ARE SO HARD
To be fair, the guy gives you 50% of each exam to take at home and also gives extra credit based off attendance. But I agree with everything else, extremely socially/emotionally absent, lectures are just a watch and do type of model (doesn't explain anything). He's definitely not a good professor but you should be able to pass regardless!
This professor wasn't very rude, but there was a girl in my class who needed extra help and seemed to have a hard time with him. He was very strict about taking notes in class. He didn't allow AirPods or phones and would call students out if he saw them. Tests were graded strictly as right or wrong, with no partial credit. VERY heavy on notes
never cared about who was teaching the class, but now Im very wary. During office hours, I expressed that I wanted to turn my grade from a C to a B, and he literally said I couldn't. However, I did end up earning a B. The issue is that he is disrespectful.he doesn't explain anything during lectures and mostly just reads and rushes thru the material
