Good teacher, keeps things interesting
he makes an elective the way it should be! put in 3hrs of work: pick up your B
really cool professor!
fair, laid back yet stimulates the class with his insight and knowledge
Dont believe everything he says thats all
Most knowledgable sociology professor i've ever had. Nice guy, too.
He's a great guy, and wants you to do well
The text book is useless in this course, just read the lecture notes off the web
Wonderfully refreshig attitude towards teaching. Always willing to help
BOOORING, if he was half as helpfull as he says he is, he would be the best prof
waste of time, boring, pointless!!! easy marker, though
Very nice professor. Extremely helpful, hope there would be more than him!
Great Prof. Very Considerate...One of the best.
book is useless!!
goodclass, easy studying off the lec notes, very undrstnding if u ned extensions
makes some interesting in and helpful with lecture notes.
He tries to make the course enjoyable
Awesome professor but I'm very sorry for pronouncing your last name (KOC) as **** rather than koch ...I really didn't know
My Name is Mustafa Koc... I know it's a mouthfull --Mustafa Koc, 2002 (first day of class)
He is the most unorganized prof every. It was a bloody waste of time, and I got screwed out of a good grade. All because he wanted to take two weeks off to go to Iraq
Very nice man. Hoped to get more out of this class. He is hard to follow. Also tends to ignore the course material and spend class time talking about the war on Iraq - not what I signed up for. Disappointing.
nicest guy, definately tough to follow, but he makes up for it in bonuses...
M. You are awsome !! i really enjoyed your talks about food AND how you gave a sociological perspective on the events of the world(IRAQ) i definitely came out a more knowledgeable person !!Thanks !
He's a good Prof... Applies the theories to everyday life. Definitely an enjoyable class with him teaching.
worthwhile
Great professor, sincerely concerned with the progress of students & is very understanding.
Nice guy, BUT as other students have said, he is VERY HARD TO FOLLOW. He can not clearly and simply just answer a student's question. Much class time is wasted on chit chat. Would be more enjoyable if he was more clear on subject matter.
He's a good person, but not the best at lecturing. Mustafa lacks focus, however its still beneficial to attend class nonetheless.
he tries his best..so give him a break. Overall, he's a nice prof, cares about passing his students.
vERY ENTHUSIASTIC GUY. Fun class to be in. Never boring
Awesome professor! Very enthusiastic about course material; makes the class interesting. He really makes you think about the course material. Great person too... good morals.
He is such a great professor...if you want an easy course this is IT!!!!
He feels strongly about the subject matter, which is great. Isn't the greatest marker though, follow his notes on what to study exactly and you'll do fine.
He is a good man. Very considerate for his students. Study and pay attention in calss he is excellent
amazing prof, cares soooo much about the students. wants every1 to do well. boring but an easy course.
This prof was one of my first profs and one of my best. I liked his humor and his teaching style. He explained the material very well, and his online notes were great.
great guy
Very good liberal attitude. I liked his European views. A+
A really good teacher and understands the pressure students go thorugh in university.
THE BEST teacher ever, enthusiastic, funny, cracks jokes, always happy even in the morning classes. good guy in general
excellent proff. Passionate about the subject, considerate of his students, and funny :) He has great lectures, and actually amnages to keep the class awake at 8 am.
Just take his courses
Course is easy if you understand the current state of society. Exams come straight out of the text. No point in paying attention during lecture - likes to ramble. Occasionally swears in class, thinks it's funny. Keep tabs on your marks; doesn't know how to calculate final marks properly.
This teacher was OK...the thing that bothered me the most was when he would throw out a swear word during one of his lectures. It made him seem unprofessional. Also, he had a tendency to digress. His tests were OK but I got lower than expected marks for my term paper.
He's great
I LOVE Mustafa, he is the most kindest man i haver ever met. He is hilarious is his lectures and really cares about his students. Everything about this course was fair game. He loves his job and he loves his students. You will NEVER find another person sweeter than Mustafa Koc. Take his courses, you wont regret it.
He's a GREAT prof and we had POT LUCK att he end of the semstester..that doesnt happen too much in University so if you get a chance to take a course with Mustafa as ur prof...TAKE IT! He's easy, a nice person, and he really wants u to do well in his class!!
He's just a good good man! Unlike many profs he doesn't think his class is the most important class in the world. His classes are truly joyful and he's as easy going as could be. He's just a wonderful teacher
Best prof ever! Funny guy! Good course, however, the one hour tutorials were boring. Gives you the items to study prior to exam, so it helps that you dont have to go through the books. I highly recommend this course! Professor Koc is the best!!
I have had Mustafa for both lower and upper liberal sociolgy courses and he is by far the best professor at Ryerson! He is passionate and very educated about the material. Most importantly, he treats his students as equals and does not look down on them. Keep up the good work!!!!
Most ridiculous course I've ever taken at Ryerson. If you think it's a bird course you're wrong. Insane amount of readings; sometimes as many as 3 to 4 sets of readings at 40 pages or more each. Not really that interesting. I got a C- in the course; the worst mark I've ever received in university. DO NOT TAKE FOOD/FOODWAYS!
ok Mustafa is a very nice guy and good to listen to BUT this course is pure BS, the amount of reading "articles" typically 25 pg long sometimes 40 like the fella below me said, is absolutely ridiculous and excruciatingly boring, TAs do all the marking they r hard marking and demanding...its a friggin' liberal elec. after all shouldnt be this hard
Great speaker, funny, gives you many chances to make up bad tests & assignments. BUT, the TAs mark HARD and the articles are loooooooong. No text book.
Three of my friends got A's in his class and my friends are dumb.
awesome awesooooommmeee prof.. i cant stress that enough.. the only problem relies w/which TA u end up with.. which can REALLY suck... but the prof is so good he makes u WANT to attend the lectures.. he's funny and very knowledgeable.. and VERY understanding... definitely my fav prof at ryerson!
I recommend everyone to take SOC808 as one of their liberal arts courses. Useful, enjoyable, and makes you to understand the real world. Dr. Koc has amazing lecturing skills, which makes the course more interesting. Don't worry about the number of pages you have to read. The reading materials are straight forward and easy to understand.
Prof. Koc is amazing... One of the funniest profs at rye, explains very well and is so so helpful. his TAs really suck. he should do this course as a one-man show or at least if he has to have TAs, he should hire GOOD ones. he is so kind & considerate to students, brought food for us on the last day of class. You rock, Mustafa
Blantant ****. Has no business teaching.
Really easy to listen to, very well educated..all around great prof! His use of humour is awesome
Great prof!! So nice and helpful! If you don't do well on an assignment/mid-term, he'll help you work out something to bring your mark up. Definitely reccommended
This course is not as easy as you may think. It is quite interesting and challenging and opens a doorway to new perceptions.
I have taken other classes with this prof, but I don't know what happened to him this time. He left the entire course up to his TA to handle! The essay topic was really difficult and the TA marked it so tough! If the prof is not going to be around, at least tell your TA to mark the essay a bit easy! Not to mention how rude and stuck - up the TA was
Great prof... VERY FAIR... ta's do the marking however, but all in all was an easy lib course.
THIS PROF IS AWESOME!! =D If only he taught all of my courses!! I give him an A+ for every category!
Best Prof.. Best Liberal.. makes lectures interesting.. willing to help you pull up your marks ...go to lectures because he gives hints to what you might see on the exam.. and funny
He is just the best prof ever. So helpful and is available whenever you need him. If you need extra help he is there. However the TA are really hard and that is when this course gets hard. A lot of reading besides the book. Good course and awesome prof!
Great professor. Make sure you do all the readings and get help on the essay beforehand, altho its pretty decent if you've paid attn/read the green book. Also, attend class as he wont post up the lec notes if he notices a decrease in attendence.
SOC 808 is the best liberal I have ever taken in Ryerson. It makes you want to attend the classes and this prof is very knowledgeable and helpful.
bestest prof ever @ ryerson! SOC courses can be boring but he turned the whole lecture to a lauhging environment! very funny and knowledgeable! he is the best! but one of the TAs(the short one) is the WORSE! she is cocky mean rude! but besides that everything is perfect in this class. easy midterm&final. prof is very helpful on essay!
Very clear has some speech impidements but very clear, idterm is easy and final is all m/c. you dont need to go to lectures or toturials, he posts notes online and before midterm and finla puts summeries and definitions you should know so just review that and you will be fine,. VERY EASY COURSE AND GOOD PROF.
had him as a teacher for Food and Foodways.. intersting class, very humerous and enthusiastic about teaching. Makes the class enjoy learning. Assigments were o-k-a-y. He doesn't mark your work his TA's do which is kind of difficult to fight for your mark later.. overall great teacher.. great class
SOC 808 was a fun table B elective imo. Mustafa was passionate on the issues he presented and but he kept the lecture atmosphere light with his jokes. Both his midterm and final were MC and writing the term paper was a breeze. This course will be kind to your GPA :D
fun professor and informative class. the midterm was very hard! all short answer and essay format. the final is multiple choice and the essay was pretty difficult! if you are looking for a bird course this is no longer one! i think they must have bumped up the expectations of this course because u need 2 go to class and know your material for exam
Great prof who keeps you awake and super nice to talk to. Interesting topics re: food & corp companies & farmers in Canada and USA. Has a new TA that marks hard so Midterm and Essay Assignment marked hard! Final Exam (MC) was easy if you read all required readings! If you talk to him he may bump your marks to get out of probation. NO textbook!
One of the greatest courses of my university Career. So informative, presented with enthusiasm. You can tell that he's really passionate about what he's saying. He's really educated and it shows in his lectures. Assignments are difficult, you need to be very specific and to the point. Exams were a piece of cake, do the readings, they're interesting
AN AMAZING PROFESSOR. THAT IS ALL. take his class and you will not be disappointed. A fun, interesting and generally nice natured man.
Great liberal; it's worth it if you want a fun, engaging course. Def buy the text. Mustafa is great at lecturing; was never bored. Take this course if you want to learn; not a bird course.
Wants to be a better prof but puts students in a bad position by asking us what he can do the make the class better but then rejects anything that he doesn't agree with and puts it back on the student. Test questions are not written clearly. Rambles until things become unclear, can be hard to follow. He does like being a prof. Not bad but not good.
He never replies to emails, and is very confusing about what he wants. He is all over the place. Wouldn't recommend this class.
Professor Koc is very knowledgeable but lacks in conducting course curriculum. His midterm and final are brutal, only because the questions are extensive and the lectures cover basic stuff, he should prepare students for these type of tests. Overal nice guy though but unfair tests.
Professor Koc was a very understanding professor, he did everything he could to help me and was always kind. He can be hard to understand at some points, due to his accent, however, the class is still relatively easy given that you study and do your work.
Such a kind professor, always posting announcements on Blackboard that were so sweet! Gave extra marks on exams and extra marks for people who came to class, genuinely interested in what we as students wanted. Lectures are boring but a lot of the information on exams comes from his lecture notes, which he provides.
Lecture notes and textbook are both necessary to do well in this class. He makes it interesting, but it can still be somewhat boring. As long as you do your readings and listen in class, you'll do well. He's very sweet and helpful, but he wants his students to attend all his lectures. Attend class, read, take notes! Overall, enjoyable.
Professor Koc was one of my favourite lecturers in first year. He is very knowledgeable in his area of study and is also very friendly towards his students. He is the type of professor that wants to see all his students succeed. Koc's assignments and exams are all fair. I found that you didn't need to read the textbook if you attended the lectures.
he is nice.
By far one of my favourite profs, he is genuinely passionate about this course and his lectures won't put you to sleep. His notes are great, you don't have to read the whole textbook to do well in the course.
His lectures are fun and interactive. He likes to speak with his pupils to learn more about them. He is a true sociologist with great passion for what he does. He has a great sense of humor that help him turn boring topics into fun and lively ones. Amazing professor. Wish he taught finance lol. Bonus: he hints to you important topics
Tough grader, class average for essay (worth 35%) was below 70. Doesn't provide clear instructions which causes students to lose marks, so ask ahead of time if unsure. Doesn't help clarify questions during exams. Doesn't upload notes if attendance decreases. Wouldn't consider it a 'bird course', however maybe online is easier.
I really enjoyed my class with Professor Koc; he is very passionate about sociology and a very intelligent professor. A very fair marker, and due to a number students not doing well on the midterm, he offered a 5% bonus on it for the whole class. He does expect you to attend class, however does post his notes online. Would take again!
I really enjoyed my class with him. He is very passionate about the material and teaching, it really shows. He does expect you to attend class and checks attendance some weeks. I would take another class with him.
He is very clear when it comes to teaching since he uses clear examples, and explains the text book materials very clear .. So if u don't understand the text book than his lectures are very clear. he is also very nice & willing to help. I would definaty take another course with Mustafa
Amazing prof, very well spoken and educated. Will explains something over 100 times just so you will understand. Very humorous and entertaining too!
Koc is amazing. He's tiny and funny and interactive, you don't get bored in the two hour lecture and he keeps you interested (weird music included). He's very clear and sweeps away doubts before you even have time to feel confused. It's sort of enlightening to hear him talk.
Amazing prof. With a really good sense of humour. He always gives feedback and really cares about his students, would defiantly take him again!
I wish I could use more words to describe Mustafa. He was great in the lectures and made them all enjoyable. Provides the lecture notes before class so you can download them and read along with him. Tutorials are really helpful, and he offers help if you approach him. So happy I checked this website before choosing him.
Mustafa is the sweetest prof, definitely recommend this course! Material is very clear, and tutorials were useful. He's very reasonable, and if you study than you will do amazing on the midterm and exam.
Koc is hilarious and makes lectures fun. All of our tests were exclusively multiple choice and never over 50 questions. He is very passionate about the subject which makes lectures more interesting, his specialty is in food insecurity so expect to hear alot about that. TA's are helpful for further grasping content.
Professor Koc is one unique individual. From the way he teaches with his different tunes in his voice to the random Turkish music he puts during breaks. He is one of my absolute favourite profs so far at Ryerson and he actually cares about his students. He's a very nice professor, I highly recommend him.
I honestly can't say that much because I stopped going near the end of the semester, but I passed! The midterm is easy (it's MC and the answers come from lecture notes which he posts online which is why I never went) The final exam is MC too and it covers what was taught after the midterm. Pretty easy going class, if you just want to pass.
AMAZING PROFESSOR!!! Mustafa is engaging, intelligent, and hilarious. One of the best professors I've had hands down. He makes lectures interesting and genuinely cares about his students. Show up to class, be respectful and you will do well.
This was probably one of the most depressing classes I've ever taken. It really makes you not want to eat anything and to give up on society but Mustafa is good at teaching it. He's a reasonable guy and is very fair, not too hard of a marker if you do the work. But seriously, it's upsetting.
Awesome prof! A really fair grader (especially his TA's), lets you know how his exams are structured what to to study for and what not to. Lectures are interesting and never a bore.
Mustafa was my favourite prof ever!!! I learned so much in this class and he was the first professor in university who was very engaging. He is very passionate and knowledgable. A very sweet soul, hilarious too!! TAKE THIS CLASS, VERY INTERESTING. Fair grader & will help you earn an A!
Super down to earth and caring professor. He is extremely flexible and will try to accommodate for any of your concerns and issues. Explains what is on the midterm and exam very clearly and gives great lectures.
I never missed any of his classes - 100% attendance. I would love to have him as my prof every semester. He makes the course material interesting and fun - actually helps you learn! Easy "A+" As long as you read his lecture notes and attend classes.
He's a very reasonable man! His lectures are always very clear and engaging. He is always open to student feedback regarding the midterm and final, and his TAs tutorials are funny and engaging. They are also helpful if you attend the tutorials regularly. Great course overall, Mustafa's final lecture of the semester was so inspirational
Fantastic professor. SO engaging and genuinely cares about his students. I personally felt as though if I had an issue or concern regarding the class or an assignment, I could 100% go to him about it. Great prof, great class. Would 100% take again with Professor Koc.
Dude is funny and passionate about what he lectures. There is a midterm and final (both multiple choice) and an essay. You can tell Mustafa really wants you to succeed, not just in the course, but in learning and becoming a well-rounded individual overall. The work itself was pretty easy and very interesting. Definitely one of my favourite profs.
he tries so hard to make the course content interesting but it doesnt work, lectures are kinda heavy but hes nice and i appreciate his effort to try to be funny. hes also kinda unorganized and does not give clear instructions about essay
Lectures were ridiculously boring.. content is pretty interesting. He is a very nice guy and very understanding when it comes to workload, but TAs grade VERY tough (only enough to pass) and tests are much harder than a SOC course need be
He's honestly a really nice prof and shows his effort in helping the students succeed.
The best prof I had this semester! He really cares about his students. Would definitely take his class again.
Mustafa is such a cute guy! On the first day of class, he brought everyone desserts and I immediately fell in love! If you're interested in SOC105 ensure that you're ready for assignments and despite the prof's understanding personality, his TA's are hard markers (he totally knows it, though). And, definitely attend class!
Mustafa is hands down the best prof at Ryerson, such a sweet guy he really cares for you and does his best for his students to succeed. His lectures are really interesting and he puts emotion into his presentation. Wish he taught more courses
Mustafa is such a sweet man. He makes all his lectures hilarious and bases the tests and assignments almost entirely off the lecture slides which are also posted. He even usually hints at important concepts or slides which are likely to be on the exams. Great prof!
Really cares about his students. Isn't a super-easy grader, but tries to make everything manageable. Super easy midterm test and exam (format, this doesn't mean you don't have to study). He is adorable and hilarious, so I definitely recommend him.
Hes a decent guy, but if you're looking for an easy course, skip this one. TA's mark hard and exams are tricky (he uses an "all the above" in every question that messes everyone up). If youre looking for an enjoyable course stay away from this one, it stresses you out more than helps you're GPA.
I really enjoyed this class! Professor Koc is really caring and tries to help his students out as much as possible. He also emphasized understanding concepts rather than memorizing, so he consistently posted his lecture notes so people to could listen instead of scramble getting notes down which was pretty great!
Easily my fav prof! So kind, caring & always shows up with a positive attitude. He has a passion for the field & genuinely cares about his students. In lecture, he usually hints to concepts & questions that could be on the midterm & final (both are multiple choice!) An easy essay about food insecurity & 2 fair exams! Show up + put in effort pass!
Mustafa is so sweet and one of the most caring professors I have ever had. His class is highly enjoyable. Exams are all M.C but they are not easy. Make sure you clearly understand all concepts, the textbook helps! Puts most lectures on D2L but his lectures are a good time so I recommend going.
He is such a nice, caring person, really made me want to do well! Very approachable and made sure papers/exams were fair in terms of extensions/content - gave hints for the exams which are multiple choice. We also had an extra credit option. This course was pretty good and not really difficult!
Prof Koc is amazing and really cares and wants you to do well. You could honestly go by without reading the textbook at least thats what I did and he post all his notes on d2l which really helps. The midterm and exam were ok basic studying can get you above 80 but you really need to understand concepts but other than that not a hard class
So helpful and considerate with every student!
Mr. Koç is an amazing Professor. He really enjoys what he teaches. However I did not like how terrible of a grader my TA was. And his tests were multiple choice which I dont think properly represents someones true potential. Nonetheless, his lectures were really informative and I was genuinely interested in what he was teaching.
Prof Koc is a very nice person and means well. However, he essentially reads his slides off the screen. The course is not difficult but the teaching method makes it hard to want to come to class.
Very kind and amazing. teaches well and will use examples to help you better understand
Harsh grader. Not easy to reach. Exam is fair but need to pay attention too very little detail.
Really sweet older man. Slight accent, still easy to understand. Gives examples during his lectures and is always willing to help you further. Study for the Midterm and Exam and you'll do well.
he is so nice and cute. on the first day he brought us snacks and he plays music during the break. his lectures are based on the textbook but you dont need to attend class to get a good grade bc he posts everything online. 1 essay proposal, 1 midterm all MC, 1 essay, final exam all MC. great class, great prof
Best prof ever. He genuinely cares for his students and wants them to do well and is so understanding! Would totally recommend to get him if you can.
honestly so sweet and kind. His exams are based on lecture notes that he provides at the end of every lecture on D2L. After exams, he always asks how it went is genuinely wants his students to do well and learn. He doesn' want to trick you on exams and always tells his classes how he wants to see his students use their education for the better.
Funny, nice, caring prof. He has good clear lectures and is so soft-spoken you'd think he's Bob Ross or Mr. Rogers. He teaches with passion, and his midterm was actually relatively easy, compared to other classes. If you read up on your material, the midterm and final will be a breeze. You also learn a lot because he keeps students engaged.
Professor Koc is literally so kind and caring. He's also very accomodating especially with this whole COVID-19 situation, he doesn't assign a lot of work either.
Rude and aggressive. Doesn't check his email often.
Dr. Koc is one of the sweetest professors I have had yet! If he sees this I want him to know his lectures during the COVID-19 situation were great! he responds to emails and criticism about making the content better (if something is missing or broken). His assignments are easy and the content as well! I am considering taking a couple more sociogly!
Professor Koc is the nicest prof!!! He's so caring and is really accommodating during these COVID times. His lectures are great!
He is honestly so sweet and the class itself is easy as long as you study!
He's an absolute sweetheart! It's been hard to adjust to online learning because of COVID-19, but Prof. Koc is very understanding and really wants his students to do well. Lectures can be a little boring but he gives notes, so the material itself is pretty soft. Just go to tutorials for participation and use his notes, and you'll be set.
Dr. Koc is an amazing and very sweet professor. He is understanding and cares a lot about his students. The course consisted of only two assignments, a midterm and final exam. He was kind enough to give the whole class a 5% bonus on the final exam. I highly recommend if anyone plans on taking future sociology courses, you should choose Dr. Koc !!!
My favourite prof this semester! He is so nice, super understanding! The course material is really interesting and I like how he actually teaches vs just reading off of a slide. The TA's are a bit tough when grading papers but everyone did well on the tests so it made up for it. 10/10 would recommend.
this is the sweetest man ever, so kind and genuine. the class itself isn't mandatory but for tutorials u most show up because it's 10% of ur grade. my ta was amazing. Overall, really great class!
Professor Mustafa has to be one of the sweetest and most caring professors at Ryerson. I took his class as an elective in my final year and I wish I was able to take his classes more!! He truly cares about his students and is so understanding of all the students situations. He truly loves the topic and is so eager to teach the class. He is the BEST
Such a kind, sweet man!
Genuine, sweet, and wholesome prof. Really glad I got the chance to be in one of his classes
Professor Koc is extremely knowledgeable about food and eating habits. He has very clear grading criteria and his assignments/exams are straightforward. His marking is on the easier side if you understand the content, which is quite simple. He is also very understanding if you need help or accommodations.
One of the most caring and genuine profs I've ever had. He's an excellent lecturer and I particularly enjoy how he adds personal anecdotes to his lessons to make them easier to understand. A great class to take if you're looking for an easy A. The tests and the paper were easy and graded fairly. I would 1000% take a class with Mustafa again!!
He's a decent prof this is just a bad course. A lot of work just for an elective and I found him to be very picky and stingy about marking. His tests are hard because the answers can be more than one option on multiple choice. Even though it was open book I didn't do as well as I wanted. When it came to the paper he wanted you to be super specific
All evaluations that were performed seem to be flawed including mishaps on both tests. The level of grading is also quite appalling as they seem to be gatekeeping higher marks. The feedback given on writing assignments does not make sense either and tends to give look marks for the slightest of issues. Snakes, beware!
Mustafa is very particular in this course because it's his specialized field of research. Tests were crazy unexpected questions that didn't quite reflect the study review he gave. Class average was very low for tests. The final essay is graded fairly as long as you incorporate main themes you'll do fine.
honestly one of the worst, his TAs are terrible. Does not follow the rubric when marking and purposely marks hard and gives lower marks than deserved on assignments. Cannot address you properly and never responded to my emails. Not lenient with marks and do not bother asking for an essay raise because he will lower it, very adamant about grades...
This class has lots of readings and the marking for the writing assignments are a bit tough, but Mustafa is probably one of the best proffs I've had during uni. He is super sweet and kind and he genuinely cares about his students, always gives you a chance to succeed. So sad to finish my undergrad without saying a proper goodbye, hes a gem!!!
My favourite professor this semester. If u can, get him! There r 2 assignments, a midterm and final exam. Take detailed notes from the lectures and readings and you'll be good. The midterm was easy (be sure to follow his review sheet). The assignments could have been more clear, but they were manageable. Ur assignment grade depends on ur TA.
Hes such a sweet man and so kinda and helpful! He really wants his students to succeed and is very passionate about what he teaches, which made me want to be passionate and succeed in his course. I will say some of his instructions for assignments maybe a little unclear, but if you bring it up with him hell explain them better.
Since it is an introductory course, there is a lot of material to know. Definitely a course that involves a lot of studying to do well. The essay criteria is straightforward, read the rubric. The mandatory tutorials are very engaging! Overall, SOC 105 is a good elective to take with Dr. Koc.
the professor is amazing himself. however the TAs are tough graders. they mark the assignment as if its an English course. the tests are very straight forward and you can get 95+ if you study the lectures and read through the textbook. take the papers seriously tho they're worth 15+% and the TA's can be pretty annoying :)
A super kind and accommodating prof, and the course work is simple, well-explained, and not difficult or time-consuming. Easy A.
Professor Mustafa Koc is a great option. Over the course of the semester, I didn't engage with him much. When I did, though, he was quite accommodating and made sure to clarify concepts throughout lectures. I'd definitely take another course with him.
super sweet guy, great first year course. TA was ok, tough grader
Cannot recommend enough. Amazing man - funny, kind, and great at explaining concepts. You'll find yourself wanting to pay attention to everything he says. Exams are all multiple choice (questions are very easy), and he often gives bonus marks on exams. Extremely knowledgable, and very accessible outside of class. Genuinely wants you to suceed!
A fun lecture (beware of the TAs. They mark hard). Prof Koc honestly is great and a pleasure. Sometimes he feeds us. He really wants you to succeed. There are a few assignments (marked by TAs sadly) but he will listen to you and review your grades if necessary. He makes notes accessible but you'll make him happy if you show up to class.
Dr. Koc was an amazing prof. Lecture content was well explained and the 2 assignments are easy enough if you pay attention in class. His lectures make paying attention a breeze as he is funny, kind, and aware. I received multiple grade boosts without asking, due to his kindness
Coming into first-year, Prof. Koc is definitely a favourite. He's very kind and understanding. There isn't a lot of pressure and the content feels easy to digest and handle. He's also very funny and loves to hand out treats every now and then (take him during the fall sem!). The TA's were great as well. Highly recommend!
I really like prof Koc! he is charismatic and a good advocate for social issues. I will say though, that his TA Julie Robertson is a tough marker, and for this course, attendance is mandatory for tutorials, even though the TA doesn't teach, she moreso just talks about herself... It was a weird experience for sure. Like God, she can talk.
Such a memorable class! Although he is retiring, he was such a vibrant and charismatic teacher. He always left you leaving class with something new outside of the class content. He supported all his students and wanted the best for all of them. Left a lasting impression.
THE BEST prof I had first year. So caring, brought us treats, made sure that we were okay with the content, and made exam season less stressful by providing us with resources. Professor Koc said words that will last with me forever, encouraging us all to change the world. The TAs were emotionless and did not care about us. All the best Prof. Koc!
AMAZING prof. Really kind and caring. Does give fair marks on assignments. HOWEVER, get ready for the tough tests/exams. Overall, such a nice prof!!
Prof. Koc is a campus favorite. While the exams can be tough, his lectures are engaging and he really cares about student success. Unstuck ai was super helpful for exam prep - it saved me time and boosted my grade.
