Takes getting used to. Very knowledgeable. Authored the book he uses. Hard grader. Extremely hard tests, but if you apply yourself you will definitely learn from him.
extremely hard and inconsistent grader on tests, seems like he grades tests based on his moods. I've had him for 4 math classes and by comparison to other math professors his tests are not extremely difficult, just his grading fairness is poor.

Great instructor, keeps class interested by throwing a related joke in every now and then. Tests are the most difficult aspect of the class "just as any other class" for this class because it was never what we had just covered.Dont give up it

Munem is the man he is awesome, funny, and a great teacher. You may not get an A in his class but you will learn more from him by getting a B than an A in Williams class or anyone else. Best math teacher i have ever had!!!
EXCELLENT TEACHER!! Best math teacher I have ever had. His accent was a minor issue at first, but everything you needed to know was written on the board. Provided step by step examples that proved invaluable. Class was very hard, but very thorough.
He's a sub for original professor. Has bad attitude as a result. He does a ton problems on the board, but won't explain anything. Tests look nothing like homework. When we ask questions, he brushes us off saying "I already went over this, you should know it." Tutors are teaching me.
Dizzy from trying to keep up with his writing on board. Genius at math, but doesn't relate it well to students. If you don't have a strong background in math, you won't do well in his class. He does a bunch of problems on the board but doesn't explain anything. Accent makes him even more unclear.

this is my second time having to take this course and compared to my last professor, this one was easier to understand. trigonometry is a hard course to begin with so no one finds it easy. but his tests and quizes are reasonable. i would TOTALLY recommend him.
He is the WORST teacher at MCC. He goes on the board ans shows you how to do problems, but no one doesn't explain why he is doing them that way or how he got the answer. if you ask a question, he makes you feel like a retard and embarasses you. don't even bother to ask for help.
he is simply the best, he is the best teacher in michigan. i know a lot of people who comes from wayne and other universities to understand the material with him

Go to every class, take notes, ask questions, and do the homework! Mr. Munem writes fast. He is very helpful if you ask. He will tutor you Friday, Saturday and early Sunday. Just ask him. He is understanding and will help you a great deal.
He is a nice guy, but doesn't really explain what he's doing on the board. His tests and quizzes seem to be completely different from the homework. The class it's self isn't that bad, you just have to teach yourself the material after taking down the notes.
He is a tough teacher but he is nice. He definelty knows the material better then any other math teacher. If you try real hard and he knows that you are you can get a C. If you can do good in his class any other teacher or class will be a breeze.
If you need understand the material and willing to put in the effort he is the best prof there is. If you just want to get through your MATH req. with minimal time/effort his class isnt for you. He has a nack for presenting complex concepts in easy to understand ways. If I had to take anymore MATH courses I'd go out of my way to take him again.
He did not seem to care about how students did, but, then again, it is Macomb, so what do you expect? If you know the stuff already take the class; if you have never had Precalc before do not take him.
Very willing to help, and very knowlegable. Tests are very hard,but his grading is fair. Study the concepts well and you will get exactly what you deserve. No more, no less. Do not take him for an easy/quick math credit. Take him to get an in-depth understanding of Calculus. Only serious math/science students need apply.
Professor Munem was a good teacher and a cheerful guy. His tests were somewhat difficult however, and you have to do the homework and study real hard to do good on them. I ended up with a B in the class without doing much of the homework. If you work hard and study hard you should be able to get a good grade.
He is a Very good teacher who is always willing to help. He would even help students on saturday and sunday at his racket ball club. He does expect students to remember what they have learned previously but will show you if you don't. Stop him if you have questions, be sure to ask for sample tests and you will pass. I highly recommend him.

If u are majoring in math TAKE HIM. if not take some other easy teacher, because his exams are hard, so it is very hard to get an A. Trust me! if u are majoring in math, u are going to be a genuis in math if u take him, because all of the examples that he gives in class are HARD AND UNIQE.
A math genius. He wrote all the math books. Writes on board the whole class and doesn't give you any time to interpret what he just wrote down..you have to learn it on your own time. He's very difficult if you don't get help. I always go visit him at his racquetball center and he helps me IMMENSELY...it's the only reason I'm getting an A
Worst teacher ever. Writes on the board the whole time and you have no time to understand what he is talking about and by the time you kinda understand it he is 3 steps ahead. Unleas you can teach your self from notes, DO NOT TAKE HIM!!! He does know his stuff though, but can not teach it that well.
This guy is really hard. He really knows the material. Clear notes. I made sure I knew how to do every homework problem and I still only got a B. Tests are very hard. Decent guy, but tries to make harder than needed.

Either you love him or hate him there is no in between. I do believe that through the entire time I had him he maybe muttered a whole 10 sentences. Mind you I asked for help and was told let me give you a hint. Make him give you a practise test without it my grades would have been horrible. Take Williams they rotate every other semester.

Don't take this professor. He knows his stuff, but can't convey it. My interest in math went from very interested to wanting to quit my program. The guy teaches from 5 different books, doesn't stick to any one kind of style of methods or examples, yet he expects something different on tests.His examples don't match examples in book.Very confusing.

I completed Stats with a 95%. I passed MATH 1450 with 499 out of 500 points. I'm dropping Munem because I am having a hard time following from one step to the next.

I loved this teacher so much. He was extremely nice and caring about my progress in the class. I loved his teaching style because it was random and helped me learn a lot. I would definitely recommend this teacher to others!! Very very nice professor =) =)
Not impossible like some people make him sound but not easy, either. He's too smart for his own good--constantly skips steps and can be hard to follow. Uses the books he wrote instead of the one we had to buy, so examples don't match up. Also never follows the syllabus. You can get on his good side if you attend every class.
I dreaded going to this class. The guy teaches from his own math books, and not the one you purchase for the class. Tells you when quizes are, but gives them at the end of class after he rattles your brain for an hour and a half. I would NOT recommend him

This was the most difficult teacher I have had. He looks like Einstein but bigger and a heavy accent. He was hard to understand and "breezed" through the mateials skipping steps. I am not very good in Math and had extreme difficulty keeping up. Very odd and defensive, especially if you challenge him on a question. Be cautious.
He was the best math teacher I've ever had. I had him as a teacher for 3 different math classes and I'm taking him again next semester. The only time he 'skipped over steps' was when he assumed the step was common sense. He likes to use his books because they are usually better than the class text.
Munem is my uncle.. and guess what?? he failed me in calc3!! he is a math genuis but a very hard teacher. i strongly recommend him if you are a math or engineering major. if not, dont bother
I do not recommend him for calc 2. if you do have to take him, make sure you ask questions and for help early. he is hard to understand, and even messes up the math in his notes. his tests are pulled right from the notes though so just memorize the notes (right or wrong) and you will get an A. Homework is not assigned but practice on your own.

he is an amazing teacher. he helps alot. and the reason he skips steps is because you should know the steps, you guys are in calculus. its ok to ask questions, he will answer them untill you understand. overall, i had him for precalc calc 1 and now im taking him for calc 2 and linear algebra. he teaches, but you need to do the work to learn calc...
I dont understand why the book is required. I wish he went by it because all he does is do examples all day not explain why or how and when I go home I want to do problems so I understand it (because he doesnt explain) and the outline he gave us doesnt go along with what we learn in class at all and the book doesnt have half the stuff he teaches.
If you're not interested in math don't take this class. If you are, Munem is very helpful and takes the time to explain any question you have. Has a bit of an accent but pretty clear.
the dude is a genius. i didn't pass one exam but i passed the class somehow. the final is extremely easy. i don't know why he didn't make his exams like it. calc is hard wherever you go. don't blame the professor blame the idiot who created calc.
This guy is a very tough teacher, and his teaching methods are not the best. However, his tests are not that bad, and the final was fairly easy. The guy is a genious at calc. and he is a funny guy. I look his summer class in 5 weeks and I got a B. so over 16 weeks it should be easier I would say. Also do not buy the book! you will never open it!
This professor does not stick to his lesson plans and talks down to students. He does not utilize the classroom as a place to pass on his knowledge to others, but instead he uses it prove his level of knowledge and make students feel inferior. Takinga any class with him is a waste of time and money.

Nice Guy only teaches students that are willings to learn. He is not going treat like a baby and nuture you. I would recommend him
PLEASE SAVE YOURSELF TIME AND MONEY!! DO NOT TAKE MATH WITH HIM!!! He does not teach from the book, skips steps, and is very rude to students. He passes students based on his personal preference for them, not their mathematical ability.
Sometimes hard to understand but overall very funny. All test were scantron that I found easy. The quiz's were another story, very hard and things NOT covered in class. Attend class and if he likes you he will bump your grade up. I would take him again.
Worst teacher I've ever had. He failed 30 out of 35 students. PLEASE do not take him. The exams were near impossible with some students getting 8%. Getting a 30% was like getting a 100% on the MCATS. I highly recommend you DO NOT take this class. I will refuse to call him a teacher because he can't teach or explain math whatsoever.
I love math and I hated this class. I felt like I was doing well in the classroom and understanding the problems, then I would struggle with quizes and tests!

Very smart man but can't teach. He's not helpful at all. Doesn't show how to solve the equations. Put things on the quizzes and exams that he hasn't covered. Changes dates and materials all the time. I took the 1st half of the book in 6wk, passed with an A. Took this course in 16wk, didn't do well, only covering 3 chapters too, I dropped. Horrible
He's pretty tough. Writes his own problems for you to do that are way harder than the book. The tests are just as hard. Lets you use your trig properties and unit circle on test. He is a hilarious old man. If you get a B in his class you will feel like a genius.
Worst teacher of my life!! Doesn't prioritize students during office hours, doesn't redo examples if students don't understand it, very unclear, and an overall a disaster to the Math department. He should work as a scientist, not as a professor. Doesn't know how to teach... NEVER TAKE HIM, just sayin'

He used multiple choice tests and doesn't require you to show work which I find rare and wonderful. No homework, your grade is COMPLETELY dependent on exam grades. Doesn't use the book, writes his own problems that are freakin hard. His tests are quite difficult I will just say that.

Terrrible teacher. Really doesn't care wheather or not students do well. He wont answer your questions clearly, over half my class dropped within the first month of this class. He addresses our complaints with a smile and quickly fleeing the classroom. Never take this class, he knows the material but never should have become a teacher.

I've taken this guy twice now, and he's good and bad. His tests are hard, but it's calculus. He lets u use a graphing calculator which is nice since many profs won't. You must attend or u will miss something and it WILL be on the test. His tests are the problems that he does on the board. Your grade is NOT set in stone based on ur test grades.

This is my second time taking his class (first was math 1000, which wasn't as difficult bc i was already familiar w algebra) and it has been a huge difference. It's frustrating bc sometimes he does his problems incorrectly on the board and will not explain. It's true, he doesn't explain much or will play it off sarcastically. I don't recommend him!
Just because your the author of the textbook doesn't mean you are qualified to teach a math class. He rolls his eyes at ?'s Class weekly asked him to write larger and slow down. He wouldn't. I tried to meet him at his office but was told to meet him at his other job on Saturdays. Students were talking about going to meet with the Dean & complain.
Had this professor 4 times. Didn't get A's but as Prof Munem would say "I DONT CARE" since I'm transferring them. I did however learn a lot. He is more than willing to help you if you help yourself. Write questions on the board and go to his office, he will love this and help out your grade when needed. I never had to retake a math class.
Very unclear lectures. Doesn't explain the methods of solving the problems well. Tests are very random and often include content that was not taught. He forgets things all the time as well. I highly recommend you do not take his classes, and would like to see him retired from teaching. He is quite ancient.
Very smart teacher. I took him for my all of math classes( calc1,2,3, Linear algebra, & Differential equations) and did very well in all. If you pay attention in classes and ask questions you will end up with a good grade.
I had Mr. Munem a long time ago and thanks to his teaching, I finshed my MSME with a 3.97 GPA. I spent countless hours reviewing his in class material and studying at Courtland, but it was well worth it. After having him for Calc. 1,2,3,4 and linear algebra, no undergrad classes or grad school classes phased me.
He refuses to accommodate those who have letters from Special Services. He sets dates for assignments/quizzes then never brings it up again. He actually lost my test then said he'd average my retake with a ZERO. His writing is hard to understand, he has no consistency & he doesn't explain anything clearly.
He lost the entire classes test once. I ended up with a c on it he must have averaged it but that sucks because I think I did good on it but who knows....... He is the worst math teacher.. I think you tube helped me more
seriously the worst professor at mcc. he doesn't explain anything. he has the students teach the class for him. he often walks out of the room and does't come back. he doesn't help students at all. i don't recommend him unless you know math very well.
He is s nice guy but his organization skills are terrible. Most things I had to learn on my own verses him actually teaching it. I would not recommend for those who have a very hard time in math.
I took the entire Calculus (1-4) sequence with Mustafa Munem many, many years ago @MCCC. I was previously a strong student in Math... but this man totally turned my light on in Mathematics so much that I added a 2nd major in Applied Mathematics @WSU grad school. Amazing man, educator, and exceptional author of one of the best Calculus books
I recognize Professor Munem for his amazing contributions to math learning. In a 1979 Precalculus class I used his Precalculus textbook (3rd edition). The book is a masterpiece for teaching. Sometimes, we cannot thank someone enough for the help they give us, which is how I feel right now. Thank you so much Professor Munem for your work.
