i hated this class.. the material is interesting but the professor does a horrible job at presenting it.. very confusing.. he expects everything you say or do to be brilliant, otherwise, you get a C.. too subjective and is not fair..
do not take this clASS!! there is no structure or fair grading. i have not learned anything about world religions.. ridiculous standards. considers an F to be an average grade. makes it up as he goes along.. he's crazy.. the worst class i have ever taken.
Terrible class. Professor is very unclear on what he wants, always tells you to look at the syllabus, which is equally unclear. I can safely say I have learned nothing about world religions. He expects everyone to write at PhD level or you get a F.
Teacher is confused about what he wants. Syllabus doesn't outline what we are supposed to do in class. For a 100 level class, it was harder than my 400 level classes. He springs work on students and doesn't explain what he wants.
This is the worst class I have EVER taken. This guy couldn't teach at all. On his good days, he was confusing. Don't ask about his bad days...
Don't take this course, unless you want the standard "why the white man is evil" rants...
great teacher , a lot of people don't like him casue he makes you read lots of materials but very very fair on grading . you learn alot .. trust me everybody needs to have a teacher like him at least once to be a better thinker...
Tries to promote good thinking, proposes some interesting thoughts, but overall, the class lacks enough focus. I love learning and reading, and while he did offer a lot of interesting readings, he threw so much at us at once and we never knew what we were responsible for. A nice guy, I suppose...
He has some unique views, he offers thoughts that can not be found in books. Extremely helpful if you go to his office. Nice guy, Wise too. I definitely recommend him
very good class if you show up for his class and study a little you get an A those who complained are ppl who never show up take him unless you are super Lazy student
GooD Professor, good Class
Amazing teacher , he sometimes goes too much to philosophy but if you are in pursuit of wisdom by intellectual means and moral self-discipline. he is your guy
Brilliant mind, if your an intellectual his class is a must. Beware, lots of work and reading is required. Class was unorganized and unclear. An A will take work but he wont give under a C. Yet this was one of my favorite classes. Teacher has great views and is amazing individual.
Unorganized, rambling, and did I mention unorganized? He seems to have no lesson plan, just talks about whatever he wants. AVOID!
Professor Mutumbo one of the best teachers Cal State Northridge has to offer. He motivates his studies to become critical thinkers and inspires them use education as a means of power. He is a very intelligent men with a great heart.
I had this professor twice. He is amazing. He never fails students. I never ever went to class I should have fialed, but he gave me B's both times. HE said some very insightful things. Kind of unorganized. easy papers and mid terms
Very nice and very insightful person. Class discussions were very interesting and thought provoking, but he rambles a lot. He is extremely unorganized and unclear and assigns way too much reading. Even so, I missed a lot of classes, didn't read anything, studied really hard, and got an A-
he is a good teacher. he does not fail or try to fail anyone. All u need is to put effort in your work.o
The man does not TEACH. I'm not learning anything. I actually feel dumber.
No wonder this class is half empty. This guy is a terrible teacher. Nice man, terrible teacher
The entire class seems to be based on FALSE information. There is a ton of reading, and then, after you've read it, he asks you to explain why everything you just read is false. Where's the information? What am I suppose to be learning?
Never around for office hours, often late to class. Don't people check up on this?
I don't know who is more confused, me taking this class, or him teaching it. Easily the worst teacher on campus.
Horrible Teacher!!!!!! DO NOT TAKE! Disorganized, hard to understand, is belittling when you ask questions, always late to start class, then keeps you five minutes after. I don't think I learned one thing this semester!
Oh my god, i hate this teacher. i did not understand anything in this class. horroble teacher. very un organized. one moment he'll talk about something and thenext moment it's something completely different. PLEASE DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER EVER. his assignments are unclear. throughout the semester my group was confused on wht we have to do.
Gave us group work, but wouldn't let us meet with our groups in class, always late, keeps you after class, can't understand a word he says, very disorganized, HORRIBLE TEACHER! Failed half the class on their midterms, too. Gave us our review on the Friday before finals, but didn't even go over anything on it-just rambled on about nothing as always!
Mutombo knows what he is doing. He has a different teaching style which is why some may find his class difficult. He is very reasonable when it comes to grades. If you show up everyday and actually try to understand he will not fail you. I highly recommend him, especially if you want to learn the complex world of religions.
good teacher if you intend on listening to him. and trying to think outside the box will help you. he is unorganized it seems, and should work on claryfying topics more directly to his audience, whom are not from oxford.
Mutombo is a great professor, who is always willing to lend a helping hand! If you are serious about learning you should absolutely take him!

his class sux
THE only prof i know to go to germany in the middle of the semester... A FOOL!!!
he is soooo unclear. I would not recomend this teacher to anyone. He is vague, does not answer a question. Leaves in the middle of the semester to Europe for a month! who does this?????? DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER EVER
typical
Easily the worst class I have ever taken at CSUN. The professor was gone for a month, and was totally disorganized when he was there. I complained to the chair, who did nothing.
I suggest that you always go to class, take good notes, and study them daily! because there is alot to understand! but he is there to help you when you need it. lectures were hard for me to wake up and go too...soo boring!Â
AWESOME RS TEACHER! Mutombo is so cool. he's very kind and helpful. cares a lot about students. his lectures are very clear and tests are right off the lectures. i actually learned something. its true...
good class
I was interested in taking this class. Now I regret that I ever took it. The lectures are usually boring, with the exceptions of a few funny jokes. He is nice and means well, you can tell he enjoys teaching...but overall there is way to much reading...and the lectures often overlapp topics already covered the class or two before.
take him! although his english isn't that great and the textbook is a waste of money, the class is well worth the units. There's work, but it's nothing hard to any extreme. A very simple class, would take again.
Very interesting class, however he assings alot of essays/hw
DO NOT TAKE A CLASS WITH THIS PROFESSOR. Take it from me: I am a hard-working, organized student, yet I had the worst time in his class. 80-90% of the workload is group work, and not graded individually. His instructions, lectures, and powerpoints are NOT clear, he repeated lectures, wasted MUCH time, and will not regrade assignments. WASTE OF TIME
I thought that this would be an interesting class to take, but this teacher made the subject EXTREMELY boring. He has a thick accent which you get used to, but you have 12 GROUP essays to write throughout the semester and he doesn't give you directions on what to write about. He's really confusing and repetitive. DON'T take this teacher!!!!
stop crying! hes not hard at all. he is confusing but his class is a piece of cake. u can bomb all of the exams as long as u are in class and u do most of the assignments u wil get a B.
if you're taking the class make sure it's a subject you REALLY want to learn more about, because you will. he gives a ton of work, and while i don't mind, it's not an easy A. i see how it can be difficult for some to understand because he has a very thick accent, though i have no problem. if you can't, just ask him after class, he'll gladly explain
awful. the worst class. i dread it everyday, so confusing and he grades hard. tricks you on tests!! under no circumstances should you take this class!
Just do all the assignments and you will be fine. He is a very generous grader. Don't take the class if you are a pragmatic thinker; otherwise, you’ll enjoy the class.
Great professor, however has a thick accent. He assigns a lot of hw/papers, but is all doable. He cares a lot about his students and tries very hard to make everyone happy. Book is not needed at all. Exams are straight from his study guides, easy A.
Although he may require attendance and homework projects, he is the best teacher if you want to learn something! ... he is the best professor I have ever had. He is enthusiatic, interesting lecturer, and FAIR!!! You will leave his class having learned something.
HE WAS SUCH A GREAT PROFESSOR! I loved taking his class...it was intense at first but at the end (when papers and finals are intense) the class was laid back. YOU WILL DEFINITELY LEARN IN HIS CLASS! He is sooo sweet too! I would take him again FOR SURE
Its rare for a professor to teach you to read outside the box, but he does it. He may be confusing at first but he'll always help you and psst..don't panic if you don't have your assignment on time. Be detailed. EXCELLENT PROFESSOR
Mutombo is the nicest guy on earth. He is so educated and so smart.Funny, easy going good grader. I loved his class...Amazing guy:)
Professor Nkulu is extremely nice and is very willing to help. The workload he assigns is very managable. However, one thing I did not like is that he's very disorganized and has a tendency to get off track during lectures. Overall, he's a good professor and you should have no problem in his class as you're willing to work.
Stay away if you want to learn anything about Religious Studies.
He is a wonderful passionate teacher. You have to put the work in but you will get a lot out.
He has no real format. He goes off on tangents and doesn't follow his own schedule. There are 10 papers. You are put into groups and if you have a group that can't write your grade suffers. He doesn't tell you want he wants on the papers(only puts checks and plus signs). If you struggle, he says you are ESL. Don't take this class if not required.
He is the worst teacher that I have taken at CSUN. He did not show for my final and did not offer an explanation! He has 12 papers. Two individual and the rest group. He does not go over what he wants for his papers. He was always behind schedule. He was always late. Then he gave me a B+ when I had one of the highest grades on my individual papers
I thought all semester that I was going to fail. Failed midterm and final. However, sat in front and participated, small class made that easy. Just do the assignments, as mundane as they are. I GOT AN A-! Biggest surprise ever. He's SO interesting and I definitely learned a lot, very wise.
Professor Nkulu-N'sengha is the most passionate professor I have ever taken. He is extremely helpful and truly cares about his students passing. There are a lot of group papers, easy A. I've taken him 3 times and I would take him again.
HE IS GREAT. YOU DO NOT NEED THE BOOK. THIS CLASS IS AWESOME YOU LEARN SOOOO MUCH. ALTHOUGH IT GETS BORING ONCE IN A WHILE(EVERY CLASS DOES) HE IS A GREAT TEACHER. VERY WISE AND HE KNOWS JIS STUFF. JUST DO THE ASSIGNMENTS. HE LETS YOU CHOOSE WHETHER YOU WANT TO WORK IN A GROUP OR ALONE. ALSO SPEAK UP AND ANSWER QUESTIONS IN CLASS AND YOU WILL PASS!
this professor is boring! then again when any teacher lectures they all are.he has multiply assignments.fairly easy, work in groups. you dont need the text book. if you take notes then the mid term n final will be no problem.
Very nice, extremely intelligent teacher. Take him!
Extremely nice guy, however needs a lot of help as a professor. We either have no homework or a ton in one night (from the essays). His expectations for the class are high, however because of it he grades leniantly. Do work,& lowest grade he gives is C. Participation is mandatory. Multiple choice Midterm/Final & easy-gives you questions beforehand.
An online class; and i don't recommend him to any one. He is disorganized BUT if you keep on top of things, you will be fine. DO the readings or you'll suffer. I managed to survive so good luck.
an okay online class. just doesn't respond to your emails so prepare to be 100% independent. can be interesting if your engage yourself. i did suffer like the comment below me and i managed it. don't take it if you hate reading messy, blurred PDFs though.
Dont take this class. He is way to smart in this subject but doesnt know how to teach. He gives ridiculous assignments that take forever then he just gives you an F on it. I failed almost everything but somehow passed the class with an A just because I was nice to him and showed up every day. Show up every day. I would avoid this class though
Hardest class I have ever taken in my life. You learn a lot; however, if you are not ready for a graduate level class, don't take this. You have an extereme amount of research papers to do. You take a lot away from the class but the work load is insane. I do not recommend him if you do not work hard.
This online class is really bad.The professor was in another country which may explain my experience. We had to get the pw for the readings from the dept because he didnt respond to our emails. At one point, the dean informed some of us that they were thinking of withdrawing the class. Hes an easy grader, but he wasnt around to actually teach us.
I don't see how anyone can not like this guy. I'm only two weeks into the semester but he is above and beyond the best professor I've ever had. Personality-wise, work load-wise (it's only a lot of works within the first couple of weeks), teaching-wise. He's very laid back, you don't need the book. Show up and do the work; it's like any other class.
He has a very thick accent but he is all around a great guy. The class was extremely easy and the midterm/final are made up of the exact same questions as the study guide. If you pay attention a B is definitely do-able.
Heavy accent. Sometimes he can be funny. Sometimes he takes attendance, I stopped going after a certain point and still got an A. Midterm and Final based on the study guide completely
One of the most interesting and intelligent professors I have taken. I learned so much useful information from his class. The only two negative things about this class is that he does not respond to e-mails, and the essay assignments have a lot of readings. But in the end, all the work was worth it. I would take one of his classes again.
I took Professor Nkulu-N'Sengha for RS 306 online it was a fairly easy class, short too. 4 Major writing assignments based off of texts given and 1 student journal at the end. Papers are easy to write it's like writing a 2-3 page long reflection about what you read. Learned a lot, easy class.
Best professor of u care . However, disorganized but funny and good guy
If writing is not your thing don't take that class. Otherwise, it's an easy class. Also, attendance and participation are VERY important.
Like others have mentioned he is nice, funny, and knows what he is talking about. Unfortunately, he is incredibly disorganized and would make multiple huge assignments due within the same week. Also, most assignments were done in groups, which I hate because my group totally sucked. Attendance not mandatory but helps, easy A if you put in the effort
Mutombo is incredibly disorganized and confusing. The class itself is pretty easy. A couple of group essays and a couple of individual essays. 1 multiple choice final. A ton of reading is required for the essays. He will likely never respond to emails or be in his office so just ask any questions in class. Show up and you'll pass.
This professor is very nice and will answer your questions before/after class but don't expect him to respond to email. He is very knowledgable but expects us to read about 100 pages for each class meeting (which is completely unnecessary). I barely read and passed the class fine. Just show up, show an interest in his class, and do the minimum work
Completely disorganized and never responds to emails. Had him for online and took him about two months to give me a grade for the first paper which I had to literally track him down for twice!! Stay far away
very disorganized. Had about 50 readings posted for the online course but only a few were discussed in the course. No text book was assigned for the course, two small books were required for two papers that needed to be completed. Worst part was the multiple final, as many of the questions identifying book authors and quotes weren't discussed.

Very informative class. A lot of reading, but you will learn some valuable information. Final test is based on the study guide (easy to find the answers). I recommend this class.
Professor Nkulu-N'Sengha is a very nice and smart man, but not the best professor because he is very disorganized making it somewhat difficult for you to stay on track in his class. You might as well ignore his Powerpoints because they are all over the place. Just show up to class, do the required work and reach out if you don't understand.
He is an extremely passionate guy and super nice. He loves to make jokes and make the content interesting. However, he moves quick and has a thick accent. He is willing to help you if you need extra help. Few group assignments, 1 midterm, 1 final.
Doesn't reply to emails, lectures never make sense, constantly contradicts himself & seemingly doesn't actually read what we submit. Grades are based only on 6 projects, 4 of which are group. Often the directions online will be wrong. Super unorganized and stole someone else's syllabus for the class. He means well, but avoid if you can.
He knows a lot and is nice. His lectures, PP, and Canvas page is chaotic, he contradicts himself when giving instructions on papers. Graded on 4 big group papers, 2 big individual papers and a multiple choice exam. Doesn't answer email. He posts A LOT of readings and videos he expects you to know, but there is no syllabus/rplan. Avoid of you can.
Weirdest class ever. Nice dude, but SUPER disorganized. Doesn't have a syllabus (at least, not his own...). Talks a lot, but his lectures are confusing. Gets facts wrong. Contradicts himself and gives hard, confusing assignments. Lenient on due dates, but no there's no grading rubric. Can't explain your mistakes if you get a bad grade. Don't take!
He is a very disorganized professor, and doesn't respond to emails on time. The first paper will literally make you want to give up since he asks for so much specific detail, basically the first essay expect to write a 10-12 page single spaced research paper. After that it's all down hill and gets easier, but still I wouldn't take him if I were you
You will learn new things about the world you never knew, if you have a heavy dashboard pick this class the professor is truly a Godsend and super understanding. Just follow the step-by-step guide he provides and you will be golden.
He's a nice guy, but his online lectures were very drawn out and confusing. Kind of disorganized, but he was nice enough to give me an extension for the first (and hardest) assignment so I wouldn't miss any points. Lots of reading and essays, so if you don't have the required textbooks or do the essays, you won't pass the class.
He is a funny guy but the class was so boring. The assignments are not connected to his lectures. 3 of the 5 assignments you have to do are in groups, but if your group cooperates, youll be fine. You do have to do a few presentations over Zoom which are pointless but whatever. He gave us the final exam questions in advance which made it an easy A.
Boring professor, disjointed and unorganized. Is kind and funny, but you have to participate. Felt like I didn't learn much. I wouldn't recommend. Assignments and a group project that you have to present.
I don't even know if this guy exists. I'm taking a fully online RS204 course from him and right off the bat I would say DO NOT take a fully online RS204 class from this dude. In a span of just 2 months I've sent him 3 emails and he has responded to NONE! I tried going to his OPEN WALK IN zoom office hours and he wasn't there. Assignment are stupid.
Everyone in this course was so confused by this professor his canvas page was all over the place very confusing to know what was supposed to be due or not. I had multiple people from my class reach out to me and other classmates because they were so confused and the professor would not answer emails at all.
If you work better under a very large work load, I'd say this is a good class for you. The professor seems very understanding and the subject is quite interesting. It's just a crazy amount of work you have to cover just during the first couple weeks. It's a little unreasonable to say the least.
I have nothing good to say about this professor other than avoid taking his online courses because he will completely ignore your emails and cries for help. Literally never responds to emails, super hard to reach outside of office hours, and gave us a spring syllabus for fall semester.
Interesting man but does not belong in the classroom. Lectures are beyond unstructured. Syllabus is not even his own. Does not seem to understand that it is a logic course. Zero feedback. Unprofessional commentary. Late grader. Comes to class 5-10 min late daily. Ridiculous amount of assigned reading not relevant to lecture. Talks over you.
6 papers in the semester. 3 are group based. Easy to pass the class if you pay attention. A little unorganized online but professor is very wise and passionate. One final exam. Kind and understanding, but hard to reach via email.
This professor is never able to be contacted. Along the semester he didn't answer any email and never graded any assignments. He just grades randomly. At the beginning of the semester we had to wait 2 weeks until he upgrades the syllabus from 2021. You can't speak he is never available.
Very little to say besides very lack luster effort on the professors part. Barely responds to emails and will grade assignments randomly. The assignments given were confusing and sometimes impossible to do as he would label it as an individual assignment, but they were truly meant to be group projects. Can't encourage enough to avoid this class.
Lectures are insightful and interesting as this professor has lots of experience and encourages us to think critically. This class is unorganized, though. There are only six assignments, some are as a group, and some are long. He could not cover all the material in the semester, so it was hard to follow. The final was online.
This professor has a disorganized teaching style, but engaging in the class discussions and using helpful study tools like Unstuckstudy can make the experience manageable. Avoid the online version if possible.
Do NOT take this professor. He was very confusing on what he wanted in the papers he gave us and he gave us little time to complete them. There was a total of only five assignments and there was a final. He also grades based on how he feels and you don't really know what your grade is until the official grades are out. Good luck everyone.
I WOULD NEVER EVER TAKE THIS PROFESSOR AGAIN! Super disorganized with terrible communication. He made me redo an assignment twice that I did poor on (2/100) then only gave three additional points as a final grade for it. I love the Bible but this professor did not format it like a Bible course. STEER CLEAR OF THIS PROFESSOR and find another one.
This is a hard class to fail, as he is a very understanding professor. While the class is lecture heavy and he does assign papers with a lot of reading, he will extend deadlines if necessary and gives ample amount of time to complete the assignments. The final was very easy as it was online, and the example exam he provided was basically identical.
This is a hard class to fail. The professor is caring and funny, and lectures are interesting. There are only five assignments throughout the semester and he extends deadlines if needed. I would take this class again.
