Beware the stinson, her maden name was Chae she is still listed as Chae.
Worst teacher ever... she barely knows english...On tests she looks for things that are wrong instead of giving you the benefit of doubt. she expects you to remember all math that you have ever learned before.
Where to get started. Some of the weak points: thick (Korean?) accent makes it hard to understand her, ridiculously arbitrary grading policy (she spends time to find specific things to mark you down for, even reducing fractions), mandatory homework, and the good old easy review/hard test trick. Good points: good hygeine. AVOID HER IF YOU CAN.
Like Nancy Reagan said "Just say no"
Just do the homework and go to class and you will be fine if you understand the concept.
Well, I only took the online course so I guess I'm not a fair judge but I liked her. I emailed her constantly with problems and she was always really nice about it. Don't know about in class, but online was very helpful :)
It's a computer programming class where all of the homework is programs. Then, on the midterms and finals, you have paper-work to do that has nothing to do with the actual bulk of the class. So you can know how to program really well, even ace the programming aspects of the tests. She heavily weighs these written portions to ridiculous extents.
This teacher was the worst teacher that I have had at olympic college! I attended everyday did all the homework I even went to the math lab 2-3 times a week I still failed and she told me that tutoring wasn't helping me understand anything! She is rude and fails to realize that others have lives out of school
Online class. Hands down worst experience I have ever had with a college instructor. Would not recommend to anyone under any circumstances. Not helpful at all, teaches nothing, expects everything, was rude to some students.
This class is horrible! She is very useless and doesnt help you with anything. She tests you on stuff she didnt even teach you in class or you didnt do in the HW. Beware of this class. Dont take it. Im saving you from being miserable.
Do not take Math 107 online. You do all the homework, then you get the paper tests and the questions have nothing to do with what youve learned, and you can't find examples of how to solve problems. The book is horrible, with no examples, and Stinson was no help. This was the worst experience.
This has been the worst class I have ever taken! She makes no sense in class, is always unprepared, grading is unjust, tests are not on topics discussed in class, is not willing to help you, generally uninterested.. She should not be a teacher! This was a nightmare for 90% of the class. Unless you know java already, don't take her!
Why is she still teaching? She has an enervating semblance,is not helpful,& conveys the impression of no real world Java experience. Her tests are unscrupulously iniquitous[!]...writing complete, perfectly executed codes within the permitted time frame is futile. This.Prof = HORRIBLE. OC-(Please*10)getNewProf for the sake of technology's future!
The previous comments are true; she's HORRIBLE. The midterm heavily impacted our grades, yet most students stated they didn't even learn most of the material on it. She finds the most MINISCULE errors in our assignments and marks us down too much for them. Most of what I know from the class, I taught myself from the book. Avoid her if you can!
Nice teacher but very unorganized. She either has too many classes on her plate as a teacher or she doesn't feel obligated. I studied my butt off but it doesn't count, you either know it prior or you never will. Hint: do not study paper quizzes for tests, study everything covered.Plan on staying in every weekend to study if you plan on maybe an A-.
This teacher was the worst teacher I have ever had by far. You were expected to basically teach yourself everything, then come to class and take a quiz on it, that was worth a big part of your grade. DO NOT take her. She is also very rude and not understanding.
Routinely refuses to answer questions, says "its not my job". Be prepared to teach yourself out of the horrible excuse for a text book and be insulted every time you show up to mandatory classes.
I'm currently taking Professor Stinson for Stats, online. If you are able to teach yourself, then this is the way to go. I took this Professor for Precalculus, she was the worst teacher I've ever had. She doesn't speak english well, and could care less if you are understanding the material. Avoid her!
she is the worst teacher i have ever had. she doesn't give very thorough notes and she is very hard to understand since she does not speak english very well. she also grades every mistake. all the other comments are true. DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER!!!!!!
This teacher is awful. She's hard to understand (heavy Asian accent) and assigns work that is from an online source which is completely unrelated to the textbook. She also does NOT help whatsoever -- if you ask for help, she'll just say "This is wrong" but refuses to help you correct it and instead gives you a look that says "You're stupid".
WORST TEACHER IMAGINABLE! She does not care whether you pass of fail. The homework is 100% different than the tests, and then the final is a completely different story than the quizzes, homework, and tests. I am warning you now; do not take this teacher if you want any grade higher than a C. I made the mistake of taking Stinson again after Precalc,
I am currently taking her class. People are afraid to ask questions because she will make you feel stupid! On the first day of class she took attendance and kicked one student out of class because he got lower than a 2.5 in his last math class. I understand school policies but she didnt have to announce that he failed in front of everyone. How rude!
DO NOT TAKE STINSON! She does not show all the steps when she explaining how to do something and goes way too fast! There are only 2 tests in the class. You fail the midterm, you fail the class, even if you get 100% on your homework. She gets snappy when you ask questions about previous lessons and tells you to study harder. She doesnt teach!
I took her for Math 94 and purposefully looked for her class to take again. She is an EXTREMELY helpful teacher and is very easy to get an "A" in her class! I love her!
I started off my class with her as a professor and learned quickly she has a very subjective outlook where she is right and you're wrong (going to fail.) Along with all the other comments on the campus about her and now seeing this website, I'm glad I dropped the class at the first red flag on a homework assignment dispute.
She doesn't even understand English or speak it well enough to be understood and constantly says things backwards. Her quizzes and tests were formatted weird and didn't make sense and she was no help at all.
One of the worst teachers I have ever had Although I took her class online I tried to go to her for help and emailed her constantly She wouldnt meet me outside of her office hours even though they didnt work for me she told me to email her, so I did and she was very unhelpful. I went to the tutor lab daily and will end up retaking the class again
Worst teacher I have ever had in my LIFE! She doesn't speak or understand English very well. She is extremely quiet (forget about sitting in the back of the class) this is the only class I have ever taken that I got less than a C in. Unless you know how to build java programs before you enter the class, D. Only thing I remotely learned from book.NO
Mayong Stinson is the worst instructor I have ever had. She is never available when she says she is going to be. You can NEVER get in touch with her if you have a question. If I could give any advice I would say DON?T TAKE HER CLASS!!! She is a terrible instructor!!!
I took her online class. And all I am saying is ?if it is going to take a week or more to get an e-mail of a phone call back from her, than maybe she really does not want to be a teacher?. I would never take a class of hers again. I would never advise any of my friends to take her class.
I'm thinking about dropping her class. She speaks very broken English and nods back smiling and not understanding what students are asking her. I'm a 3.5 College GPA student, and I feel like I am going to fail. Her class approach is very rapid, she talks the entire time. Then, it's completely up to you. No assistance is given. Good luck. =/
Ms. Stinson is one of those teachers who knows what she's teaching but doesn't interpret what she knows in a way the students can comprehend and grasp. Her methods in teaching is horrendous and not to mention she uses NO calculator at all. So when you need an accurate velocity rate you're screwed.
I took this class online and it was my worst nightmare. The professor was not helpful in anyway shape or form, even though she said she would help when asked, I even met with her in her office. Not recommended!!
I am surprised at the low ratings Mrs. Stinson has received. The on-line course itself is difficult, but she is extremely fair. Use the discussion section, she answered all of my questions completely. Be prepared to not rely on your calculator and actually understand how to solve the problems. A's are possible if you put in the effort!
Took the online course. Professor Stinson's program she used to teach is flawed and confusing, she's inconsistent when answering student questions and she didn't give us our final exam grades- I had to go the Dean. I'm all for challenging courses, but she makes this class extremely frustrating. Find a different professor if you can.
Class is extremely hard for a 99 course. She is of asian ethnicity and has the accent to prove it. Take home quizzes saved my life after I started taking them to the tutor. Failed ever in class quiz though. Not a very good teacher FOR ME, but if you wish to take the risk then go for it. Online homework is very challenging.
This teacher has irrational standards for an intermediate algebra course. I honestly have nothing positive to say about my experience with this professor.
I think she's an amazing teacher. She definitely wants everyone to succeed. If you're confused, she'll stop and start from the point where you started to get confuse. She expects you to pay attention in class. If you're looking for an easy A, this is not the class to take. She makes you earn your grade.
Took online stats against others advice. She says the tests are from the homework "with a possible change in numbers". HA! they have some of the same words, but are pulled out of the middle of a problem that you are USUALLY led thru, so don't expect to be prepared. Her tests are hard, confusing and too long to finish in time. AVOID!
What a horrible instructor. The book was difficult to understand and she was even worse. The tests were nothing like the homework because she didn't just adjust numbers she rearranged the question into a context that was not taught. I learned more from the Tutor than from this teacher. Shame on OC for not offering a better choice of instructor.
I didn't like the way the instructor taught, she didn't even finish going over the chapters. I went to the math tutoring center a lot, and even though many couldn't help, the tutors who could were confused. The tests were confusing, the textbook wasn't helpful at all. I think OC should have chosen a better statistics teacher.
This was not a good teaching match for me. She went through all of the material very quickly and ended up making people feel stupid when they asked a question to better understand the material. Her English is very broken and hard to understand. I will not be signing up for ANY of her classes in the future.
I have learned and mastered more math concepts from her in one quarter than I did my entire high school career. It is a math class so I expected it to be challenging but the lessons were set up very well and they were easy to understand. I would definately take another math class from her.
Don't believe the hype people. She's not as bad as people are making her out to be. If you've been around anyone in your life that has a bit of an accent I don't see a problem with understanding her. She's nice and will clarify anything you are not understanding. Hard class and hard grader but that's what math is all about!
Requires 2-3 hrs/day outside of class, weekends too. I estimate 45% of class was gone by the final. I suspect she unconsciously expects you to work as hard as highly motivated Asian students. The Korean accent was a non issue. Brutal class, but I'll probably never forget what I learned. Received an A and really looking forward to calculus. Sign up!
She was terrible. She didn't understand our questions and she always glazed over things. She made is memorize very unnecessary things too.
Since Kindergarten I've gotten straight A's in EVERY math class I've ever taken. My overall grade was at 72% when I dropped out right after midterms. Her tests are horribly confusing. Only 1-2 students are able to finish the 3-4 pages in the 50min time period. Doesn't listen to feedback or understand questions. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!
An absolutely horrible professor. She does not make any sense with her teaching, and will throw random questions that were never discussed into her tests. 90% of the class fails almost every test, and she gets defensive when questioned about her methods. She has literally stated, "I understand this, why can't you?" I learn more math from tutors.
Worst math teacher I've had. Very rude and condesending, also hard to understand due to a somewhat heavy accent. Tests are very limited on time and no calculator is allowed, even for basic arithmatic such as 65x14, when asked about using a basic calculator she said "if you don't have the basic arithmatic, go back to remedial classes... Rude.
I enjoy this professor as a person. She is kind, and has a little humor to her. However, her tests are the hardest I have ever taken. She is very stict about no calculators which is annoying, and she even collects cell phones before test. I would recommend her if you want a challenge. Nice person, hard teacher!
She needs one of those brass bells like the Navy Seals have when a student can't take it anymore and quits. It would be rung daily by students in tears as they realize their dream of being an engineer or doctor meets a brick wall at speed. Tests are really hard, attendance is mandatory, homework takes hours. No talking allowed. Not for the weak!
Worst math teacher I have had. Makes me never want to take another math class. She is cramming us extremely hard at the end of the quarter, and isnt a clear teacher. All our homework is online which doesn't help me learn, no calculators ever is very annoying. Her accent is hard to understand. Extremely boring class.
The course work was online so I finished very early, but she was very accommodating with that and I was able to take the midterm and final in class. From what I saw of her teaching she was very clear and always helping the other students, but it's math; some people get it and some people don't. She is very persnickety about the homework though.
OMG worst teacher of my life! had I known she couldn't teach I would have switched/dropped out with or without refund. made me feel so stupid. Always blamed the students. and her study guides were NOTHINGGGGGGGGGG like the actual test. i'd study for hours the chapter and study guide to only fail every freaking test. cried everyday after school.
WORST MATH TEACHER, EVER! She was NOT helpful in any way possible! I asked questions via email frequently, and got 3-5 word sentence reply. And when I had asked her about help understanding the material because I was working hard but my grade showed no improvement she replied "understand the material more and work harder" WOULD NOT RECOMMEND HER!
She is an absolute joke of a teacher. I understand that cultural differences may warrant varying studying habits, but the second you ask students to study hard on their Thanksgiving break, something is wrong. Everything is online, while homework is managable, quizzes and tests are nothing preparable, even with hours of studying a week before.
The worst math class I have ever taken. I couldn't understand her, she had sloppy writing, she couldn't understand the questions her students would ask, no one finished tests on time, the test weren't relevant to the chapter, she is very disrespectful, she failed most of the class, people dropped like fly's, only math I haven't got a B in(D+)
Her high standards were her only redeeming feature. Awful, unclear lectures, could barley understand questions, and would skip steps when working problems on the board. 0/10
If at all possible don't take her! Because this was an online class I would email her with questions and besides her taking days to reply, when she did she was no help. I mentioned I wanted to withdraw from the class and she basically called me a quitter without knowing the reasons why. She is no help and I don't understand why she's still teaching
I TOOK MATH141 ONLINE WITH PROFESSOR STINSON AND SHE IS A TERRIBLE TEACHER. WHEN YOU ASK A QUESTION SHE TELLS YOU TO WATCH HER VIDEOS, WHICH ARE A MESS AND HARD TO FOLLOW. I DO NOT RECOMMEND ANYONE TO TAKE HER CLASS.
I TOOK THIS CLASS ONLINE AND IT WAS AWFUL. THE PROFESSOR IS NOT HELPFUL AND WHEN YOU EMAIL HER FOR HELPM, SHE TELLS YOU TO WATCH HER SLOPPY VIDEO LESSONS THAT ARE CONFUSING. I DO NOT RECOMMED ANYONE TO TAKE HER CLASS.
Couldn't understand her (heavy Korean accent). She gave a disproportionate period of time explaining unimportant material that wasn't on the quizzes, at the expense of necessary material. Homework was all online and due two to three hours after the daily class had ended. The only reason I'd recommended you take her class if if you were a masochist.
The professor did not use questions on the homework or quizzes on the tests. Since we are supposed to study the homework and quizzes to be prepared for the test this was a big problem. Also since the tests account for the majority of your grade you will have a much more difficult time succeeding.
I was able to complete 2 math courses in 1 quarter thanks to Prof. Stinson using the ALEKS math system. She was very helpful in answering all my questions. Thanks to her I will be able to transfer to a 4 year university a year earlier then planned. Show up, pay attention, do the work, and you will do fine. This is college, not high school.
Avoid her if you can. She's not helpful. She says you can email her and she will respond in 24 hrs. Wrong, it would take a few days, and when she did rely the emails weren't helpful at all. Her grading system is confusing, you turn in written work for the quizzes, and have all correct answers but wouldn't receive full credit. Not a good professor.
An atrocious teacher. She doesn't respond to e-mails, doesn't answer the questions her students ask. Seems to love creating busy work for her students, and inundating them with assignments that are expected to be done at the same time.
She did not explain things well. She is hard to understand. Even though 99% of the work is done online she would get upset if we tried to leave class 4 minutes early. I will not be taking math with her again.
If you struggle in math I would not recommend taking a class with this professor. She is very hard to understand, and if you don't understand the way she explains it she may actually call you a "fool" or "stupid" even if she is joking, I don't find it funny at all. She also makes a big deal if you leave class early, awkward
This professor is rude, I barley ever asked questions and when I did she was not nice about it. If you leave class early even like 4 minutes early she requires you to bring a note or she won't excuse it. The only reason I did good in this class was because it was all mostly online with ALEKS. Terrible teacher I do not recommend her to anyone.
NEVER TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. I went to her office hours to ask for help, and she refused. She marks you down for every little thing. Her tests are nothing like what the book teaches, and the book is very useless as well. Do yourself a favor and avoid taking a class with her at all costs. I'm a 4.0 student who is good at math, this was my first B.
I really struggled to learn from this teacher. I need clear instructions on what is expected which I felt wasn't provided. I also like to see different ways of solving problems and in her class it's either her way or the highway. If I solved things a different way she would tell me that was not the right way. I struggled very much in this class.
Some people don't like this teacher, but I happen to find her teaching method helpful. People misunderstand her because of her accent and dry(sometimes even sarcastic) humor, but I have no issues and have held high grades in her class twice now. If you don't want to work, this teacher isn't for you and school probably isn't either.
The expectations of this class are ridiculous. I spend at least 20 hoursweek on homework assignments and am still failing. Tests are out of this world crazy. There is no sympathy or help from the instructor. This is the worst class I've ever taken. No 100 level class should be this difficult. I give the instructor an F
It's not that she's a bad teacher, but she doesn't mess around. She's very strict; she is not lenient or sympathetic for family issues, sickness, etc. If you are willing to teach yourself the material you're good, but she's hard to understand and has a unique teaching method that is hard to like. Take home quiz every Friday. TONS OF WORK, no joke
Never failed a class before. This was my first class I've ever had to retake seriously hurt my gpa, you're basically teaching yourself math through the online book. She doesn't teach this class she just gives assignment dates. Spent at least 20hrs a week doing homework. Had an A on all homework and b's on quizzes and still failed. Don't do it.
This was the hardest class I've taken. I probably shouldn't have taken a math class online. She is always there to answer questions, however she wasn't clear in explaining. She gives you this assignment that is completely different problems than the online homework which forces you to think danggit. Tough class. Good luck!
I probably shouldn't have taken a math class online. She is always there to answer questions, however she wasn't clear in explaining. She gives you this assignment that is completely different problems than the online homework which forces you to think danggit. Take advantage of the tutoring center! Tough class. Good luck!
terrible professor. Do not take!
Expected to complete 8+ hours online each week, a take home quiz every friday along with a hw assignment. TON of work-I wasnt a huge fan of her but I have to give her credit because you will learn the material and pass the tests if you do all the work. But you must get 75% on final regardless of your grade to pass the course. Attendance is graded.
Insightful and willing to help, a lot of homework if you struggle with math. Online Hybrid (study in class w/ mandatory homework), system uses algorithms to asses your learning retention, if you don't score well you redo that section until you get it. I was sick and fell behind, I caught up, passed w 4.0, Taking her again for MATH 099.
This teacher does not really help you at all. She will not be there to talk to you. She just sits there while you work on the computer online to complete math assignments. Not helpful at all and very confusing.
Do not take any of her classes. Even hard working students won't pass. My class of about 30 students, has about 10 students who are hardly passing. Everyone else failed her class this quarter. Save your money and take a different teacher.
Never take a class with her if you struggle with math, I learned that the hard way. I had a 90% on homework, an 80% on quizzes and failed the class. Plus she never will email back even if you email her a few times in a row.
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS. Im doing great in her class, yet she is the one standing in the way of my grades. She marks you absent when your there, if class is canceled your still expected to be there..? She's great at math, but a HORRIBLE professor every way imaginable. Not helpful, broken English, wastes your time. Dont waste your time or $. HORRIBLE!
I thought she didn't care whether or not I learned.
She is a great teacher, homework due once a week, complete the class on time or earlier if you wish. Tests are on topic, and everything is done on an online program. Only a couple tests throughout the quarter and she does note-book checks. as long as you're willing to learn, she is very patient with her students.
Very helpful professor. I enjoyed her class very much. You can also finish early if you'd like. Tests are all on topic, no surprises.
By far the worst professor I have ever had , she can't speak clear English and she didn't tell anyone what day the final was so half of us missed the final , and when we all tried to contact her she doesn't answer any calls or emails . She was in no way helpful , a truly awful professor.
I took this as an ALEKS class, she pretty much stood at the front of the room as a babysitter to make sure we showed up. She grades attendance, which totally blows if you finish the ALEKS course early. I never had issues with her, but it seemed like she wasn't very helpful when other people asked for help, and would get irritated and walk away.
Terrible teacher. I took this class with the ALEX program and that is the only reason why I learned anything. Her lecture's are confusing and when asked for help her explanations are hard to follow. It was loud all the time and students argued with her almost everyday. If you even have to leave class 10 minutes early, she will dock points.
She was a hard teacher and talked down to you when you asked another student that understood the problems for help when she and the teacher's aid was busy. If you didn't do the homework like she wants then she marks you wrong even if you got the answer correct.
super mean , has no since of humor.
This was an online class through another program, there was homework, quizzes, tests, and worksheets. There was something due every day from the first day of class, you can go ahead though. Tests were on campus. The professor could only be reached certain times of the day and did not teach anything. It is up to you to learn the material.
She will take off points wherever she can. If you don't write problems out exactly how she wants, you get 0's. I got an 86 on the final and received a 1.8 in the class. There's no extra credit and there are no free extensions, even if there are several snow days and you have no power. :) If she is your only option, wait a quarter.
I would never recommend this teacher to anyone, my class was on Aleks program where usually you go at your own speed and the teacher helps when needed... she gives many lectures about everything and talks 2/3 the whole class. your notebook better be perfect or definitely not passing the notebook check. could write so much more but out of characters
Although she has high standards for attendance and homework, they are easy to meet as long as you pay attention to her directions. Despite having a lecture pace that is difficult to keep up with, she is always willing to answer questions. She is encouraging and genuinely believes in her students' abilities to succeed.
Steve (her assistant) was very nice, but she was not nice or understanding at all. I was late to class one day towards the middle of the quarter, and she didn't care that it was because I lived an hour and thirty minutes from school and it was snowing. I was only fifteen minutes late one time, but it affected a lot of my grade. Lots of homework.
I took Professor stinsons class because it was the only math 099 available at the time I needed. I was weary because of reviews but she wasnt as bad as I thought. English is not her first language but she speaks it well despite that. She is available to ask questions too but doesnt make sense a lot. She is a tough grader but I still respected her.
I literally woke up every morning hoping I would get into an accident because I so badly did not want to go to this class and see this teacher. Save your sanity, take another teacher.
Worst teacher and class I have ever taken. I taught myself this quarter. She is only at the school to collect a paycheck. She does not care if you learn the subject matter. If you have a choice between her and anyone else, go with anyone else. Homework almost every day of the week and if there are website issues she doest care.
I am decent at math and had As in my math classes before this class. I understood it. I unfortunately fail d. She was awful at helping, and when she did teach (which was almost never) it was fast, and she often questioned herself, and some students even had to correct her. Her grading scales were harsh, and she didnt help me in any sort of way
I had heard a lot of bad things about this professor before taking her class. She is a tough grader and if you do not attend her class there is no way you will pass it. If you understand Math already and work really hard you can pass her class. She does like to see her students succeed.
This was an online course. The homework and quizzes were proportioned well throughout the quarter and there was 3 exams, and 1 optional exam to replace a low test score at the end. The "study plan" was helpful but I needed more help. Be prepared to teach yourself in this class and the book is online which wasn't helpful for me.
For this course, homework was typically 7 days a week with approx. 2 days off (4 for final) to study before exams. Originally, we were to have 2 exams before the final but an additional exam was added (I think due to the poor outcome of previous tests). For me personally, this was a lot to handle as a full-time student & job holder.
Since I took the class online, I had to go to the school for the midterm and final. During the final, I had my hand on my lap and she walked over to me to tell me to put both hands on my desk then told me to give her my phone. I told her no and she took my paper and said you will receive a 0. Worst professor ever.
I have only been in her class for one day and I am already planning on switching. The homework she gives hardly matches with the lectures in class, and she only gives you one day after each lecture to complete multiple homework assignments. You have hardly any time to review material before due dates. I highly recommend avoiding this class.
Mrs. Stinson is tough, period. I am still confused why this is a "face to face," as its all through an online program. She is very strict and will make absolutely no exceptions, and you'll be teaching yourself. There was a test and a note book check on a day that my daughter had to go to the ER, I got a 0 for attendance, notebook check and test.
HORRIBLE TEACHER !!! Took her Business Algebra class online and withdrew a couple weeks in. Something is due every other day and quizzes are due over the weekend. Unless you plan on having a tutor on standby 24/7 DO NOT TAKE! The book is as USELESS as the teacher. So, unless you are already a math wizard .. AVOID this class.
She is the worst professor I have ever had. Shes hard to get a hold of, shes hard to understand, she gives out weekly quizzes which don't correlate to the ALEKS program at all and, she expects the quiz work to be exactly like ALEKS teaches even if you learned it differently and got the answer right, she'll mark it wrong.
She is not that accessible as she says, I had emergency surgery and I let her know I was not in conditions to finish my homework in time, her answer was" try to do it by midnight, then ask me for an extension".. kind of hard when you are in a hospital bed. .....
Extraordinarily unhelpful and uncaring professor. When I experienced computer issues in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, she actually suggested that I use my family's stimulus check to "buy a new computer". The tests do not relate to the ALEKS work, weekly tests, and you MUST complete dedicate 12 hours a week to this one class. Pick anyone else
Quite honestly this is one of the worst experiences I have had thus far in college I have never seen a more unprofessional teacher she does not teach a thing and takes years to respond to a simple email with it being an online class she uses something called webasign which does a lot of her job for her and she wont give points back if the websit
She will refer you to the book when asking for help and mark you down on tests if you got the right answer but did not use the method she wanted to get there. She also will ignore you or not explain or assist you when asking specific questions not in the book, but on the homework.
I took the class online with no mandatory meetings and there wasn't till the test came which was not mentioned in the syllabus. I'm not the greatest test taker this was a surprise. This class is heavy on homework I had a tutor 24/7 that had to help me in this course on homework. When I asked for help she said to watch the video again not helpful.
You will teach everything yourself, any questions you have she refers you to her videos which are unclear. An ungodly amount of homework, tests are 70% of your grade. She can't mark you down on math problems in Aleks if you get it right. However, projects are 10% and she will grade you down for nothing. No clarity, a malicious and awful teacher.
I had Prof. Stinson for Math 107. This class was somewhat difficult because there wasn't really any foundation to fall back on, she was great at helping when I asked but you need to ask in-depth questions and communicate with her for her help. I definitely think the tests were hard, especially at 8/9AM.
I would recommend to steer clear away from Professor Stinson. I should have looked at the ratings for her before I took this course. Shes very hard to understand, and when asking questions, she is not helpful. Ive never had any bad experiences with teachers at Olympic college, up until now. Do not take this course with her!!!
I took her class over zoom and was having computer difficulties where my camera wouldn’t work and she would not give me points for participating even when I answered her. She did not understand that I couldn’t afford ALEKS at first and got mad at me.
Instruction was messy and hard to follow. Course description should explicitly annotate the curriculum includes additional customized instruction with paper quizzes and testing in conjunction with the normal requirements through the online ALEKS course. 1 attempt at file uploads or no credit.
The exams and quizzes have questions that are nowhere close to what we learn during class, and we can't use calculators. We have to complete an ALEKS chapter in 2 days each week, so you never have time for other class work. Attendance is graded as well. I recommend that you take a different professor, because you'll just get set up for failure.
She is completely inflexible. Exams were scheduled on my work days and she was not willing to accommodate. Tests are timed with a completely inadequate amount of time. I explained it takes me longer because of my attention deficit and she degraded me and told me student access was needed with a medical diagnosis for her to consider more time.
Myong is essentially a $600 narrator of a book. Do not take her class
She does not know how to teach well. I asked her for help and all she did was repeat what the question said on the HW, like obviously I read the question, I just didn't understand how to do it. She also doesn't give enough time for tests. Instead you have to rush through, so you end up messing up, and she doesn't give retakes or extra credit work.
I would avoid taking her as a teacher. This has been such an awful experience. There as a lot of homework that doesn't count for much overall, tests and paper tests. The online tests she doesn't give enough time to do them in my opinion. I study for hours and get mid 70s for grades on these tests. She should either give more time on tests.
I've never had an issue with a math class until I took Professor Stinson. She's difficult to understand and she gets her own material wrong and has to ask the class if she's correct or not. I recommend any other math professor at OC over her. Your chance of passing will be exponentially greater if you do.
Graded my test a 0 because the teacher didn't scroll down where my answers and work were at. Teacher lacks effective communication and misunderstands a lot even if writing is as clear as possible. After a long chain of emails (of about 10), they finally got what I was trying to say.
This class was horribly put together. Multiple different programs to navigate, ridiculously unreal expectations with 6-8 hrs of work EVERY DAY! She is impersonal & obviously doesn't care about the students and ruining their GPAs. I wrote to the Dean of Math so hopefully no one else has to go through this! DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS FROM HER!!!
I would not take any of her classes. You're pretty much on your own the whole quarter. Tests (which are ridiculously hard, and you can't find any help online) count for most of your grade.
This is Math 99. The workload is expected to be math 489 and the Professor's quality of work is Math 00001. Avoid at all costs, and I do not believe Professor Stinson is worthy of teaching at any school. TLDR; Avoid at all costs. Do not take a Math or Sociology class with Professor Stinson. If I could give this a negative 10,000 rating,
Extremely difficult to communicate with. Each test is three different parts. Practice test, online test, and paper test. Paper test rarely covers same material as online teachings. When asked for help, she says to watch videos and try harder.
I was super excited to take an online class. But unfortunately, I did not read the ratings of this professor and my first email response from her was very dismissive and didn't really answer what I asked. So I dropped the class after reading all these horror stories.
I took this class online. It was as if she were speaking another language. When I reached out for help, she had zero empathy for a struggling student.
This professor was probably the worst grader I have ever experienced. The smallest error would result is loss of points and points would be take for seemingly no reason with no explanation. Additionally tests had questions that were not in the homework at all and had never been taught in class at all. Problems and instruction were not clear at all.
Doesn't seem to care about struggling students, when asked for help she said to try harder and watch the videos. I explained the videos were hard to watch because the person in the video kept making mistakes and then she became very aggressive and rude when talking to me.
I would never take her class again. Terrible communication and terrible teaching. It was an online class and when asking for help, she never helped nor seemed to care.
Beware. I had to go to E.R for health emergency requested exemption for late hw. I know I have 50 late passes but letting u know. NO. Wife's grandmother died stayed at wife's family home away 2 hours away, wife destroyed missed deadline messaged teacher and still given late penalty. Very tough grader. Very rude. Lack of compassion. Do not recommend
When I signed up for this class, I was excited to be able to take math from home because I have never really needed help from teachers in person. When it came to this class though I found myself struggling a little. I asked her for help, and she proceeded to not be helpful. She just told me to watch the videos. FYI: The videos are not helpful.
Professor Stinson's class is challenging, but using resources like the textbook, study sessions, and tools like unstuck study can really help. Stay engaged and you'll learn a lot, though the tests may be rushed.
Took an online math class to be able to maintain my work schedule and work around it, however this quickly became my new 'full time job.' I spent every night at the tutor center. Don't bother asking for help from her. Multiple times the material she was teaching was wrong or she back tracks. On average hour long lecture videos 4X a week with hw.
Her videos made no sense, as well as when I would email her, she would be rude and short. Expect at least 2-3 quizzes and tests each week, along with multiple long homework assignments. this is by far the lowest grade I have ever gotten in a math class because math is my strong suit.
This was a difficult class to take online. I was not a fan of the online textbook or videos. You are not allowed to use the forum online to post questions if you need help on problems. Expect to get much tutoring help.
There are no tags to even add for this professor. The ones I would use is "unhelpful", "doesn't help you succeed", and "doesn't tend to be helpful". If you can't tell, she is not helpful. Whenever I needed help and emailed her, she said "watch the videos". SOOOO unhelpful. I am happy to say she retired!
