really nice person, easy class work all questions on quizes are directly from the homework. very easy class if you just do the work.
um, good teacher but hard to understand because he is korean and has a thick acient... but its an easy class. gives homework but doesnt check it and the quizes are the questions from the homework
Hard to understand because of his Korean accent, but I've heard worse. He likes to teach everything really fast so you have to keep on your toes, but he's a cool guy and never turns you down when you ask for help.
Tests are all easy, if you study. Except the final is a bit more challenging. Covered a lot of material. Not much time to get a review in. If you hand H.W. in late, no point penalty. Said there would be quizzes, and a project but there wasn't. Said to get TI-83, but only needed it for one H.W.!!!
As long as you pay attention you'll pass, his accent is thick but you can get used to it. He will answer any question you have if you dont understand the problem or his accent. His quizes are a little tricky but its really good practice for the tests that are worth like 90 perecnent.
Professor Kim is obviously very smart, you can tell by the way he writes on the board like his brain functions as a math person and not like mine haha. He also has good handwriting, His accent didn't bother me, my sister in law has like the same one. He is soo sweet too! Koreans must be damnnnn genius's that is all I have to say
He is such a good teacher I`ve seen..also he is so smart to teach us easily. His pronounce is ok, and test is also easy...In addition, he drops a one lowest grade...
MC KIM is the man!!!! Very very good teacher. Do the work, study, show interest and you'll be fine. Calculus 2 is a tough class and there's a lotttt of material to go over. MC KIM teaches it very well. He knows his calculus very well and explains it in a clear fashion. He's a Funny guy, good man, good professor. Over all, just take him!!
WHAT ARE YOU GUYS TALKING ABOUT!! THIS guy was sooo bad! I'm an B-A+ student in ALL my classes. I've never got anything lower than a B at suffolk and I had to withdraw from his class. I couldnt hear a damn thing of what he said! and when I asked for help he went off on how I'm not paying attention to him! I went to math lab and everything! DROP HIM
Mr. Kim is a really cool teacher. Sometimes he gets a little frustrated, when he's having a bad day. He takes time out to explain the work and goes through everything in detail. If you need extra help he's willing to help you and goes over questions you had from da homework the night before.Study the notes you took and you should be fine.
I have always done well in math, never enjoyed it but did well. THIS MAN IS HORRIBLE. If you want to be miserable, take him. He does not know how to teach math correctly.Cannot understand his accent at all. Does not inform students of deadlines. AWFUL. I do not understand why he is teaching. My best suggestion, TAKE SOMEONE ELSE.Do yourself a favor
Teacher can be funny, especially when he can't spell AMERICAN words. His accent is very hard to understand. Maybe some ESL. He has a tendency to incorrectly teach a lesson and RE-teach it the following class. Very smart man, but can not impart his knowledge. If you are someone who has a hard time learning math he is not for you!
hard to understand because of his accent, but he is very helpfull, went over h.w. problems. gave out quizes that was good for review, and had 4 exams and a final. funny person too.
This man cannot teach!! i currently have him (fall semester 07) and just today i asked a simple question on how to do a question and i quess he didnt understand me, and he told me (infront of the whole class) to stop acting like an immature highschool student.Shortly after i clarifiedmyselfandheapologizedafter class... Im switching classes tomorrow
MC Kim is awesome. I've always been a terrible math student in high school and this semester I've learned a lot. He's helped me understand math a lot better and I would definitely take him again.
nice prof very helpful. he trys to make everything easy but somtimes its hard to understand what is saying.he is very funny. make funny jokes about him and his wife. test are oky. but you have study this class is much more harder then cal 1. lots of Ex credits. good teacher and nice guy.
Very nice teacher. very smart. make very funny jokes about his wife. its tough class you have to study. test are some what easy. quizes help you out. and other extra credits. i would recommend him.
this teacher is my favorite. very funny. def recommend him
I have nothing bad to say! He's awesome. He is so smart and cares a lot about teaching. Before quizzes he ALWAYS explains everything and on tests he tells you exactly what's going to be on it. I recommend you taking him :)
I would not recommend Kim for a summer session. There's just too much information and it's difficult to understand him. So many times, someone would ask a question during class and he didn't fully comprehend what they were saying, so he'd guess and give them an answer for something they didn't ask.
One thing that is very positive about him, he REALLY wants you to do well, and will bend over backwards so that you WILL do well. However, there's a LOT of material, and he's not the best at speaking English, so you're going to be completely lost based on class notes alone. He's super nice, but be prepared for a rough time.
Horrible Math teacher.I took him for math006. While he is ammusing and funny. His communication skills are poor because of his accent. His teaching methods are at best poor. I attended math lab 2x a week. He never went over problems in the textbook, we never followed the textbook (only for H.W.) so you had nothing to review when you went home.
Mad funny. Cannot speak english. Not recommended for japanese people. Test are hard. Horrendus teaching method. If u get an A with this one u must be better than mad good at math
DO NOT TAKE HIM. can NOT understand him. his teaching methods are horrible. he goes over everything TOO fast. very confusing. point blank.. stay away
I suggest to take his class. He is a nice professor, but his English is not good. Sometimes he teaches so fast, but he always make sure everybody understand. He just give online homework, it's easy. I didn't buy the textbook because he put the power point in his website, and we just use that for the guide. His test is really easy.
Prof Kim was an absolute disaster! The language barrier was unbearable & he was extremely inappropriate. He was teaching from a totally different textbook than what the course required. He wasn't available for extra help although you wouldn't be able to understand him anyway. He took the 1st hr of class to explain that he doesn't speak English well
He has a good sense of humor. The accent really isn't that bad, you get used to it. He is pretty fast paced. You must do your homework every night to do well.
He's a super nice teacher, he's very funny and the whole class liked him. Sure his english isn't that good, but you get used to it. Make sure you stay on top of the homework he assigns online!! The only bad thing is his teaching methods, he can make the easiest problem super complicated. Sadly I failed his class, but had a pleasant time doing it.
he really knows the subject, he just can't teach it. he goes too fast and and never explains anything clearly. i would not recommend him to anybody. i a very good student, and had a really hard time in his class
BAD TEACHER. Can't understand what he was saying and asking for help was like pulling teeth. His tests were impossible and almost my entire class failed. He just assumes you know what he is talking about. I took calculus and did better than in this class. Avoid this teacher at all costs!
He knows his stuff, but he is not good at explaining it. Not only is it hard to understand with his accent, but he makes no sence what so ever with his explainations. He also refused to help me when i went to him for help because i was struggling in his class.Basically, take any other professor, unless you already know precalculus from high school.
Prof. Kim is a great teacher. He does have an accent and he is aware of it that is why he provides notes, and those are crystal clear. Do your online homework print his notes and you will do well..
I loved PreCalc in HS, but even with my prior knowledge and above a 90 average in HS, I still managed to do very poorly in his class. Very hard to understand. Very in depth when it's not necessary, VERY fast. Would not recommend
Homework is all through online usage. (about 1-3 hours per chapter section) Teacher teaches ton of info in one class, and is strict in attendance. If you ask him a question, he will try to clear things up as much as possible, but ask after class. If you don't get how the course runs after 3 weeks, you're done. Average grade is 73 on most test.
His tests are very hard, he moves very fast. I'm good at math and I fought for my life just to get a B. Don't buy the textbook, everything is online. He's a nice guy but I can't recommend him.
Class began with 36 students, dropped to 17, a handful passed the class. Get the hint? Run! Some material on exams is not on the syllabus, not taught in class and COUNTS on the test! 10 points people! So, exams begin at 90%, not 100%. Lectures are sub-par, doesn't build understanding. HORRIBLE! Shame on SCCC! I passed and fought for my grade.
He hardly speaks English, my class went from 30 students to around 15 and I'm pretty sure almost nobody passed. Yells at you when you ask questions and his broken English on tests makes statistics harder than it already had to be. Never ever ever would I take this with him again.
Very good professor . I had a great class with him. He cares about the students. No problem with his english!!!
This class is extremely difficult and fast paced. The material is hard to understand to begin with and professor Kim's accent definitely doesn't help. This class will require a lot of attention. You also get a lot of homework each week so be prepared. DO NOT miss a class you will be so lost. Professor Kim is willing to help if you ask for it
Professor Kim is a really nice guy, but he doesn't speak the best English. This can lead to a communication barrier between him and his students, but the class itself is not overly difficult. Homework is online, and he gives helpful review.
Decent at teaching, but was often unclear on things like exam dates and grading criteria. We had two tests that he told us about in the class before the test. He also often gave tests that were significantly more difficult than anything assigned in the homework.
Very hard to understand. Very fast-paced. Always says how much he hates speaking English. Take anyone else for pre-calc
Tough professor, makes you really work for a good grade but at the end of the semester you'll walk out knowing the material, one of the best.
i didn't really try the hardest in this class. and taking it at 7:30am was not a good idea at all. but he really doesn't like English.
One of the worst teachers I've ever had. Homeworks twice per week are about 2 hours each. Doesn't explain why any sort of approach is used or the goal of learning the methods-100% of class time is spend hurriedly going through examples and the entire class scratching their heads. The tests are entirely "trick" or "gotcha" questions unlike homework.
What should be an easy class based on real world skills is made overly complicated by this professor. His teaching method leaves you asking many questions, most of which will get you ridiculed for asking. When you don't understand something, instead of calmly explaining out to you so you understand, he rapid-fire explains it the exact same way.
Prof. Kim is a fair grader and makes sure that you know material well. Sometimes his lectures don't convey a topic particularly well, but he's fairly accessible and the textbook helps a lot. A mixture of attendance of lectures and self-clarification is definitely needed. Homework is graded thoroughly with helpful feedback.
He knows what he's talking about and is a fair grader. English may not be his first language but he speaks it well. Just pay attention and take lots of notes. He will help you out if you ask. This is math. STUDY. Don't skip class either, you will regret it because you'll be lost. Study right after class and go to the math center, you'll paced.
Professor Kim's lectures are very hard to understand. He doesn't explains things well and gets upset if you ask questions. I would not recommend anyone to take his class.
All class is lecture and only he speaks. Zero class participation. Difficult to understand as English is no his first language. Has a sarcastic attitude but funny at times. If you learn by participating then this class isn't for you
I hate him worst teacher I have ever had in my life how did he become a teacher?
He's got bad reviews, but this is a hard class. He's honestly great at explaining things, but you CANNOT expect to just go to class and get good grades. He's hard to understand at first, but he is a great professor and you can access him outside of class. Don't expect an easy A. Study. I studied everyday and got a C+.
If you show you know what you're doing and that you care about your grade he will pass you and/or help you. He gave a lot of online homework that I didn't feel like doing because I already took this course in high school & I didn't do very well on tests towards end either but he saw my effort and gave me a C. His lectures were structured and clear.
Gives homework every class but not mandatory. Lots of 2,3,4 question quizzes. There is no class participation. If you learn by engaging this isn't a professor that would suit you. He teaches fast and doesnt give much opportunity for questions, and many find his accent very hard to understand. Take his class at your own discretion.
Don't take this professor unless you want to re-take the class, and you want to teach yourself a whole semester of math when finals come around.
The worst professor I have ever had. Avoid him at all costs, about 60% OR MORE failed his class and he blames the students. Lectures are difficult to follow and he demonstrates best case scenario, homeworks are online in bulk and vastly more difficult with tests even beyond that. I would take a summer class to avoid him if I could, should be fired.
Was sarcastically funny at times but also hard to understand at times since english is not his first language. overall a kind hearted person but wasnt too clear on explaining things in lecture or fair on grading. started the semester off with 20+ students in class and ended the semester with less than 11 since everyone dropped.
Hes a horrible teacher. He is hard to understand and creates quizzes/tests that are geared towards making u fail. He laughs when he goes over the questions and hears how is whole class got the questions wrong. He doesnt care at all
I wouldn't mind his accent if I wasn't learning statistics, but I could hardly understand what he was trying to teach. He assigns homework everyday, and there are tests and quizzes once, or even twice a week. His class is boring and almost everyone fails every test. He's funny and nice, but this is not the class for you if you want an easy A.
Lectures are dry and just him writing stuff on the board without explanation. Course was 85% exams, 15% quizzes. Wasn't very forgiving when students asked questions.
I took Professor Kim for college algebra and thought he was ok. I can't see myself in a much tougher math class with him though. He has a really thick accent and it's very hard to understand most of the things he says. Only take this guy if you have too
Cant understand what he says, and goes really fast.
I'm taking his class with the Covid19 situation and he gives a lot of homework, it's hard to understand and doesn't really help. Do not take him if you can.
if you have this professor, switch immediately!!!!! you cannot understand one word he says, he's rude, gives no extra credit, and belittles you if you're confused or have a question. worst professor by far
Thick accent, stutters a lot, does not give extra credit, wont let you makeup homeworks, I took him online and I could not read his handwriting, was heavy on homeworks, was not helpful at all
Prof Kim was the worst, homeworks were really long and hard, he claimed he "minimized the homeworks" but here I was spending the whole weekend working on it, lectures were boring and hard to understand at times because of his accent, very monotonous, tough test grader, very rude, IT'S NOT WORTH IT!!
One of the worst professors Ive had so far. He takes off points for ANYTHING. Hes very hard grader and getting a response back on an email is likely not going to happen.
Gives insane amounts of homework questions I'm talking over 150 questions due before each test and if you miss a few questions he takes so many points off. Horrible at answering emails, thick accent, and taught me nothing. I literally taught myself this class.
So many things I can go off about him. The college should really observe the way he teaches. He gets rude if you even ask a simple question. Blows through the material so fast even if we say to slow down. Insane amount of homework thats unnecessary. I get its college but seriously this guy should be observed. By far the Worst class Ive taken.
Only reason why I got a B is becuase I hired a tutor and had to teach myself. Very hard to understand, has a short temper, extremely harsh grader, and offers little to no help. Felt like this professor wants his kids to fail and instead of helping he would just get mad when we ask questions and try to improve. This man should not be an educator.
DROP THIS CLASS!! RUN! Worst professor EVER!! I’m not kidding. I asked one simple question and I got such a nasty response from him. His lectures are him talking , doesn’t let anyone speak. Has the thickest accent ever so you can’t even understand him. Seriously, drop the class.
I personally took this professor for two semesters and loved him. He's the easiest professor. He doesn't make it difficult to pass. Everything this on the same schedule and not a lot of homework. Sometimes you do have to teach yourself but over all makes things very easy for you while being online.
He graded only 3 pages of my 3rd test because I accidentally misplaced the first page which I already scanned onto my computer and hadn't edited at all. He refused to actually grade the first page because he "couldn't trust it". so i missed out on points and he said it was my fault. Also he would get irritated whenever I asked a question.
It's easy to pass if you understand math. The exams are difficult.
Fin fest was taking place outside. People were laughing, playing frisbee, listening to music, and having fun. Professor Kim says, "I hope it starts raining, and lightning, and strong winds". I love this man, but I don't love Discrete math
Do not pick this professor. I should have listened to the reviews but instead, I thought I could tough it out. Worst mistake. The homework is insanely difficult and very long. Also, he is not good at teaching. I chose him because I liked the time he taught instead of going to a class at night but trust me, you're better off taking a night class.
Lectures are useless. I did good b/c he made every test (total 3 + final) more easy than the last because everyone was doing bad. Tips: do the hw, do the textbook exercises, watch the videos below homework questions, and read text. Use the solutions book and text in the Math Learning Center to do even numbered exercises--they may pop up on tests.
If I could give one tip to anyone reading this right now, do NOT take Professor Kim. He is very intelligent; however, he goes by the lectures very fast and messes up his problem examples very often. He is hard to understand during his lectures and doesn't like when students ask questions. Please avoid his class at all costs if possible.
Professor kim is an ok teacher, he has a thick accent but the way he explains things on the board helps a bit. But, If you are looking for a teacher who can help you on a one to one basis and cares about their students professor kim is not your man. But If you're okay with studying for about 10 hours a week and wont slack off you'll be okay.
heavy korean accent that makes things very hard to understand thought I could tough it out since I knew the basics but was wrong, if you don't know the basics of your course taking before skip out on this professor only reason I did okay was bc I went to the learning center to relearn every lesson after lecture not good with explaining material
Be ready to pretty much teach yourself the whole class! Unless you know you are strong in Calculus, do not take this teacher. A strong accent makes lectures hard to understand, and the majority of the time, when he writes on the board, he's blocking it and then erases it immediately. There are about 6-8 quizzes, three tests, homework, and a final.
I already knew how to do algebra so he wasn't hard to pass, you have 4 exams each worth 15% of your grade and the final being 25% then homework being 15%, if you aren't great at math I would heavily, and I can't not stress this enough HEAVILY advise not taking him, but if you know what you're doing then you should be fine.
He knows the subject very well; he just can't teach. His method of teaching is very fast-paced for someone with a thick accent; he skims through important sections, assuming we already know certain things. He seems nice, but the way he teaches is horrible. If you're on the fence, avoid this class - I thought I could power through it but no.
Prof Kim is a really good, thorough professor. Unfortunately the material requires a lot of time to learn including homework, studying, and lectures, and time is limited so it requires focus and discipline from the student. He is extremely knowledgeable and goes into depth during lectures... but you will get lost if you don't do hw/study
Great guy, and honestly, a great teacher. Sometimes he can get mixed up, and the lectures can become a little tough to understand. MAT142 is a tough course. A lot of ppl don't like him, but it really isn't his fault. It's a tough course that covers a lot of material, you need to have plenty of time to work. He is easy on grading.
I like that unlike most of the other professors that he actually gave us quizzes so we can track our progress. I dropped because for someone with such a heavy heavy accent he spoke way too fast and not clearly. Often would replace words with one word syllables, lol. He said that he was working on speaking with out as heavy of an accent but idk.
I did not find the coursework or his teaching a struggle at all. His accent is quite heavy but not difficult to understand. 9-11 quizzes, but they are all short, 4 exams + optional final, and a lot more hw than my others teachers. When ppl asked questions in lecture he did seem bothered, but when reviewing for tests he was never rude abt it.
