This professor is so full of himself. No humor and sarcastic as they can come. His test are so unfair that even if you study with the CD and take the online exam you still don't get it. 45% failed, 53% got D's thru C's, 2% B's. I doubt anyone got an A!
Not the greatest guy in the world, but he makes the class stay awake with his anecdotes. His test are VERY tricky and extremely hard to get an A.
he's not clear of what he's teaching. he does not care about student's grades. no curves given. good thing is that he does not take attendance at all. reads from powerpoint and there's no review for any of the tests
he knows economics, i have seen much worse like SCARLATOS ECO 1001. no reviews or clues about the midterm or the final. a lot of jokes, funny at the begining but suck when repeated after the first month. READ THE BOOK FOR A GOOD GRADE, HE IS NOT EASY. B-
Took him in the summer. Not that easy gave two exams/one take home test/final 6essays--essays not that hard don't focus on math or graphs really/just understand the info. EX:Law diminishing returns good or bad? Know concepts.
The first impression I got of him was that he was sarcastic and funny and didn't really care. He doesn't take attendance, only goes by the power point slides and doeen't emphasis on math and graphs. His exams are a bit tricky. You actually have to study.B
An arrogant guy, talks about his olympic trail and CIA wanted him to join this kind of ****s. We don't know if any of these are real, but looked at it as a comedy show. What a clown! Most of all, he gives bad grade to the students. Enough said.
No, he's not easy but if you study, you get it. He's very knowledgable and you can count on him always answering questions intelligently. I studied HARD and got a B+. He doesn't take attandance so he has no clue who you are--so study.
doesnt take attendance and gave us take home midtterm in summer 04 class, just understand the concepts and you'll do fine. very interesting in class and teaches from powerpoint
HE THINKS HE'S FUNNY, BUT HE IS NOT. DOSEN'T TAKE THE ATTENDANCE SO U BETTER STUDY FOR THE TESTS. 2 TESTS 40% + 60%, SO IT'S NOTHING U CAN DO. HARD, IF U CAN AVOID.
The true college experience. Never takes attendance. Class ISN'T required. Midterm 40%, Final 60%. He is smart and a wise ass. A class that you must study for yourself. The power point slides are sufficient without the book. I got a B. Very knowledgeable.

If you want to lower your GPA take him..one of the worst professors in the school!!!!!! I don't know why they still keep him!
Very helpful, very understanding professor with a personality. He's laid back and his classes are easy. One midterm and one final and attendance is not mandatory. I recommend him to anyone. Easy "A"
Great class. Took it in the summer. Did absolutely nothing. Study for final. Easy B with no effort. He is also a very nice guy. Teachers like this make School a good experience!!
Study on your own, he gives practice exams but most are very different on the test. He's doesn't explain too well in class and the text is a drag to read. Sign in attendance. If you took micro you should pull off an easy B.
If English isn't your first language you might have trouble. You also might enjoy this class more if you are male.
Never met someone so happy with himself. Was more interested in telling us how he is a martial arts expert than disucssing the subject. I taped every class. Answered the questions on the final almost ver batim. Gave me a B- When I asked if he could review the final with me he made me come in on a Saturday and then forgot to bring in the exam!
He is a cool guy who is easy to talk to and he explains himself great.class overall wasn't that hard w/a little effort and do take notes. attendance not mandatory but then you screw yourself. Not a painful class for Sat morning you can come hungover and still get a good grade. Come late if you want too he doesn't care. One of the better teachers.
I can hardly believe this professor even has any bad ratings. He was very interesting and always related the material to real life experience and told many anecdotes. The material was not very abundant so the tests did not require much studying. Check his teacher evaluations online for a better sample.
do not take this professor. he seems so straightforward in his teaching and tells jokes but his tests are horrible. one midterm and one final. thats it. his curve is not that great either. i studied soooo much and read the text and notes and still messed up on both his tests. he doesn't make the tests up himself. probably using so bank.
Teaches as if an undergrad class then gives very tricky, difficult exams. His arrogance makes him unpleasant. If he would actually try to teach wather than talking about his past and his friends, perhaps students would be better prepared for exams.
He uses the slides from the textbook as well as the textbook testbank for the midterm. Read the book. The midterm was fair but the departmental final was hard. he does curve the final though. He made a Saturday class interesting. Attendance not mandatory. A little conceited but I reccomend him.
Do not be fooled by his easy-going attitude, he seems at first like his class will be a breeze, but his tests are ridiculous! He kept telling us we dont have to take the midterm, he will just count the final but i took both & he averaged the grades. He repeats everything 5x, gets boring. Even he admits test is ridiculous-yet doesnt bother to fix it
HORRIBLE. Half of questions on both test were on material not covered & professor promised to curve but never did. Reads off pp slides. Doesn't know how to use blackbaord. Ruined my gpa.
Lazy Professor. He seems to not care whether you learn the material or not. Our class met once a week and he had the nerve to cancel class one Saturday, cram four chapters into one session the next Saturday, and then gave us the final the following week. This is clearly just a pay check for him. He has no real interest in teaching and it shows.
Read the book, get the study guide, midterm was okay but final was hard. He curved at the end though. He is a little snooty, but tolerable. Kind of funny
TESTS ARE IRRELEVANT TO CLASS LECTURES. SAYS WILL CURVE BUT DOESN'T REALLY DO IT. RUINED MY GPA. HORRIBLE. STAY AWAY.
Prof is completely careless in his teaching methods. Cracks jokes all class and tells (somewhat) funny stories but don't be fooled. He doesn't make up his own notes or tests - they come right from the book and are still wrong. Wording is extremely tricky on tests. Unavailable outside of class. The epitome of cashing a check. DO NOT TAKE THIS GUY.
I find it hard to believe that he can teach as he does and feel no guilt for not preparing students for his tests. There is no way that 2 weeks with 5+ chapters of this material is sufficient to do well in this subject and he clearly does not care. Pointless like many other Baruch professors that teach core classes.
Echo the comments below. He is lazy and uninspiring, one of the worst professors. The exam questions make no sense, no matter how much you prepare and he does not curve. Waste of time and money. Study from the powerpoint slides and be careful to do OK on the exams because this class can bring down your GPA.
He ruined my GPA. He will say (promise) one thing but do the other. He's very lazy professor: does not make the handout, does not make the exam questions. The book is very expensive and yet not resellable

I've had better professors. He didn't cover all the material and he always ended class early. One time he just cancelled class because he didn't know how to turn on the projector. I did well, but his tests were very difficult, and include material that he didn't cover. One time I heard him arguing with a student. He was very rude.
Minus the jokes and repetitive anecdotes, this cat is very straight forward. You must read the chapters and slides to succeed since all the exams are straight out of the text book. Relatively easy class to pass.
This guy does not care about his students at all. He ruined my grades. Avoid him in summer school because he just skims through a few topics but the exams covers entire micro economics. Also he is extremely rude to his students. He thinks he is making funny jokes but they are all lies.
I didn't find this class as difficult as the other reviews made it out to be. Definitely read the textbook because this is where all the test questions are coming from.
Print and study the slides and you will be fine. Test comes from the textbook so it is helpful but I didnt use it at all, still got a B+.
If you read the book and the slides this class is an easy A. If you are lazy and never pick up the book...you won't pass. No he does not go over every single thing in the book but if you read the chapter and ask him questions he will answer. He responds to emails quickly and doesn't give homework. .
Professor pretty obviously doesn't want to be there. Doesn't put much effort in. He's ok, has a good understanding of the material but he's a bit of a jerk.
Study hard for the exams,he seems like a cool prof in the beginning, but the first test was so much harder than I anticipated that I couldn't really recover... Buy the textbook. A LOT of the material he tests on is NOT in his notes, it's in the text, which he follows line by line. Don't take this course in the summer.
Given his tenure in teaching grad level economics, he should know what needs to be taught by now to prepare his students to successfully prepare for exams. This is not at all the case though, which is clearly indicative of his lack of interest in teaching. Get exam dates and skip his class. He contributes nothing to student success.
If you wanna ace the exam, buy and read the textbook, then you can skip all classes as his classes are useless for you to prepare for the exam.
no need to go to class. perfect for the summertime. read the book = get an A.
Professor is rude and just doesnt care. Classes are just powerpoints from the book and stories about how he hates the world. No need to come to class. Midterm and final. Tests are strictly from the book but are impossible. If not for a huge curve, most of the class would have gotten a C. Stay away.
This was a very difficult class. Exam questions do not match what is on the slides. Recitation was useless. Unless you plan to teach this to yourself or spend the term in tutoring you should not take this professor. This class destroyed my GPA which was an A previously.
Nick is the ideal teacher. If you choose not to attend class, you can still get a good grade if you read and understand the book. Class is a mix of him telling stories and basically going over the text book. If you understand the chapters, you will get an A in the class. Great class.
I have to say I disagree with many of the reviews I see here. Nick is a great professor, he explains things in a relatable way. I don't need a prof to be my bff & care about me, I need a prof who is competent & communicates the material in a way I can learn. That said, the exams were difficult but you will get a good grade if you prepare and study.
you must buy the book, barcia teaches nothing and it is a waste of time to come to class. read the book and get an A.
This class was so easy. I went to 4 of the 9 classes and got an A-. That said, read the text & print out his slides. All he does is read the slides, so class is worthless and he doesnt care if you attend. He's rude though and doesnt care. You say hi and he just stares at you. But again, if you dont care about niceness, its easy to get a good grade
Fair enough teacher. He teaches through slides. I got an A basically by studying the book and doing the homework. I recommended if you want a relaxed teacher but fair.
There's no need to go to class. He simply reads the slides (which are from the book company). The tests are from software that comes with the teacher's ed of the book. Just read the book and you should be fine. If you do come to class, though, you'll be greeted by one heck of an egotistical professor.
if you don't enjoy economics, then you will find this material very dull. the prof. tries to keep it interesting with his little jokes and personal views on life. buy the study guide and do the problems and you will do fine
Barcia has a straight forward grading system. Two tests, and that's your grade. Explains things in a way you can understand. The study guide is **crucial** for this class. Do the problems in the book and the study guide and you should be set. I will take him again.
totally useless lectures. also the recitation class is absolutely useless. he doesn't seem to care whether you attend or not. ALL(!) what you need to do during the semester is survive the final. you don't even need to take the midterm. and his tests are extremely difficult.
He is Ok professor. Attendance is useless. He just read the slides which you can find in MyEconLab. Multiple choice test is extremely difficult, though you have a choice whether you can your Midterm grade to be counted. All you need to do for the good grade is to study the book and to go over the practice exercises in MyEconLab by yourself.
If you can study yourself and drain yourself in the textbook you will be fine! He's boring and class is pretty much useless! Everything from his class you can get from Myeconlab.com. Study hard cuz those multiple choice tests are really difficult!
I completely disagree with all the negative comments. Prof Barcia is very good at hammering home the important points in lecture. If you actually pay attention in class it's very simple. While he isn't a comedian, he told stories every now and then to keep it interesting.
Nice guy... But I agree that his lectures are useless. I got an A just by reading the book and doing exercises on myeconlab. Tests are hard though even if you read the book. They mostly evaluate your understanding of the concepts, not your memory. Be sure you understand what things mean in this class, just memorizing will not help.
I got a B but i had to do it all by myself. The guy doesn't want to be there. I made an appoitment with him and he stood me up.
if english is not ur first language, look for another professor. even if you read the tb, u won't understand the examples on his tests
All this professor cares about is a paycheck. The whole semester consisted of him reading from slides that came directly from the book and the tests were from test banks with questions beyond the book's difficulty. Reading the course book and the study guide - is NOT enough - you really have to study hard to do well.
Reading Text or slides is not sufficient.Exam comes from a test bank which happens to be tricky. If you get previous papers, it would do the trick.Teaches well but tricks in exams.
Unkind fellow. He says offensive things, doesn't really teach. He did curve and does not fail anyone. Tests are very hard. He doesn't care to know any student and let's you leave early every night. I found the tests to be very hard, even after a tremendous amount of studying. Irrelevant questions on test--no real teaching happening.
He knows his stuff but his teaching style is not so great. His exams are hard because we never go over questions in class so don't know what to expect
Hard tests, they were not covered by the book nor the lectures. The teacher who never answered one of my emails..Dont take it
This professor is one of the worst teachers! I passed the class, but he didn't help at all. He spent most of the class talking about himself & the other half reading off slides. He never knew what was going to be on the test. His respose, "IDK, it comes from a test bank" The recitation teacher says study one thing and his exam is on another. Avoid!
HE THINKS HE KNOWS IT ALL!! TOTAL WASTE OF TIME. TALKS ABOUT HIMSELF ALMOST ALL THE TIME AND READ OF SLIDES. USELESS. TOTAL WASTE. AVOID HIM. HE WILL MESS UP YOUR GPA. HE ALWAYS CHALLENGING STUDENTS ABOUT NON-SENSE.HIS (TA) SAYS ONE THING HE SAYS ANOTHER, THERE IS NO COMMUNICATION AMONG THEM.
Thought I would take this prof and study my own from the book. Big mistake, the professor never lets us know whats on the tests. Attendance not mandatory. Uses online software myeconlab for HW and practice. The recitation lady was completely unhelpful. Barcia said he would curve grades after midterm average was 64, dont think he did. Avoid this guy
Great professor. no attendance. midterm and final and that is it. best thing about the class is listening to his interesting stories and the fact that he does not read from the slides. He explains everything.
Explained everything that would be on the test well. Interesting and engaging. Does not care at all about attendance. One midterm and final. Read the chapters in the book. They will reinforce what you learn in class and you'll understand it much better.
SUPER EASY class.. went to class the first 2 lessons and the final. Got an A. Do all the practice questions its the same material thats on the final (100% of my grade. choice between midterm and final 50% each) The subject it self is interesting, and not difficult at all.
If you can study on your own and don't want to go to class (exclude exam dates), this is the class you are looking for!
Waste of time. 1 test-1 grade. So, your grade depends entirely on what random questions are generated for your test. Most of these questions will have nothing to do with the lectures, sometimes not even the subject, and often require random knowledge that pertains more to US history (names, dates, events...) than macro economics. AVOID.
Lectures are useless as he just reads off of the slides so you have to study on your own. Tests aren't too hard but a lot of nonsense questions. Take at your own risk.
extremely smart, funny and very interesting. enjoyed the class very much.
teaches well but tough final. questions from the chapters not covered. u need extra knowledge to solve them. buy the textbook, the study guide is somehow useful but don't just rely on it.
Professor is knowledgeable on the subject, explains well, kind of funny at times. We had a final and a paper because it was a summer course. The final exam contained a lot of unfamiliar material because he uses questions from a test bank. There were many questions that were not related to the chapters or material covered in the book.
He is the most arrogant professor I have ever met!!! DO NOT TAKE his classes unless you absolutely have to and have no choice!!!
terrible professor. stay away if you care about your gpa. lessons were useless. exam straight out of a test bank, but even the book didnt help much. i wasted my money and learned nothing. never taking again.
I enjoyed the professor. It was Saturday class and no attendance was taken. He uses power point and final was comprised of all the he went in class. I was kind of worry about the grade because I did not study as much as I should have but I got an A. He is funny and trying to explain material clearly.
Barcia used slides that matched the textbook. He didn't make the slides I assume. ALL of what you learn is through the book. That said if you read the book you will get an A. He's not a good teacher, used lots of metaphors with vodka, and is overall mediocre teacher.
Did not test on anything covered in class; avoided testing on concepts and definitions that most MBA students appreciate--instead he tested on useless facts and spent the entire class talking about himself. I got a 4.0 in my first Masters and ended up with a B- in his class. As a teacher myself, he is the worst.
For a 1.5 credit summer class, he gave the right amount of work: 1 group paper, 1 final. He's funny, engaging, and explained the material in a way that made sense. Final was easy enough if you read the book & went to class, but there were definitely some random "factoid" questions, & it was less quantitative than I expected. Good overall.
Class wasn't bad. I have an undergrad Econ degree so I was familar with everything. He explained the concepts well but final had questions not relevant to what he said in class. Final is 60% of your grade. Talks about himself every class but doesn't take up too much time. Seems to have friends who do every type of job from brain surgeon to janitor.
Lots of HW but if you stick with the material, you'll do well. Wok in advance!
