He's a great professor and is definitely clear and direct about the subject he is teaching. In this class he has three major tests and some assignments here and there. It might sound okay to slack off, but DON'T or you will fall behind. He emails all the powerpoints and you don't require a textbook. He can also be really funny.
Dr. Robinson is an amazing teacher. His lectures are awesome and fascinating. Who wouldn't like the History of Rock and Roll? You learn so many things and it goes beyond music. Attendance is a must and you cannot afford to miss assignments.
Awesome class. He really knows what he is talking about and is passionate about the subject. A couple of assignments and a couple of tests. They're all fairly easy.
I ended up doing more work for this class than my physics and linear class. Easy quizzes, lots of info on the tests. Found some things interesting but somewhat boring.
Interesting class overall. If you are good at memorizing the names of songs from around the work go for it. This class was easy and fun. I really enjoyed it. There are a couple of assignments but he is a easy grader.
Awesome class and you learn a lot more about the rock music industry and its beginnings. 3 easy tests, 4 small quizzes, and a couple homework assignments. Pretty easy and direct class as long as you show up.
I absolutely loved this class. I would recommend taking his 3 hour lecture one day per week! Assigns some assignments and tests/quizzes which are all fairly easy to accomplish! He knows so much about the history of music, not only in Rock N' Roll, but all types of music which makes it very inspirational to learn from him. Would take again!!!!!
This was the hardest out of all my courses last semester. He is extremely difficult to deal with and very impatient. Expects way more from students than he should. Assignments are long and just "busy work", very difficult grader. His Tests were next to impossible.
Loved this class and professor. It was an easy A for me. I learned so much. Would definitely take his class again. Show up, listen carefully, and you should pass.
This is a great class if you appreciate rock n roll history. The class starts with early 1900's blues so don't expect do jump straight to The Rolling Stones. Al of his assignments are easy, but the three tests are tough. Not an easy A, but a class worth taking.
Took an online class with him, be ready to do a lot more work than you expect. Easy tests and must participate on discussions board.
I would recommend him as a professor. No textbook needed and doing his study guides is the key to doing good on his tests. His quizzes are listening to music, easy. Turn in your hw, it's mainly essays. Doable. He's funny and makes lectures entertaining. Go to class and listen, he explains what's on the test.
This class is really laid back as long as you do the assignments, it's not that hard. Each week there are two main assignments due; a discussion board, maybe two short writing assignments, two listening quizes, and two regular quizes. It may sound like a lot but it's really not bad at all. Not hard at all.
Professor Robinson is a laid back and nice guy. He takes attendance every day which sucks, but the class isn't hard. Lectures can get a little boring if you have a short attention span, but he posts all his powerpoints online for you. While jazz history sounds like an easy A, it definitely requires some effort. Show up to class and study for tests!
Absolutely no flexibility on deadlines, even when the instructions for using the online class portal are unclear or omit important information. Condescending when responding to requests by email. Lectures don't always work on the online portal, and essentially just regurgitate information from the text verbatim.
If you're someone who just wants to come to class and just sit there and listen to the lecture, THINK AGAIN. He loves to call on people which is really frustrating. There is a lot of music to listen to and a lot of note taking. Listening to all the music on the list and he gives you and remembering it is harder than it seems, so keep that in mind.
Make sure to turn in your homework with a lot of time. Uses an online program for the class that is not straightforward and simple to understand.
Professor Robinson is great! He makes class interesting and always surprises with new ideas and musical directions. He's been a personal mentor to me for my first year at Mesa and has given me a ton of motivation and direction. He's overall a truly inspiring professor.
Dr. Robinson is very detailed. You can tell right from the start of the semester that he knows a ton about Jazz. He is super into what he talks about and there's a lot of critical listening in the class. I really loved the diversity of music and the in depth lectures. He inspired me to be an avid Jazz listener even after I finished the course.
I started last Fall as a music major at Mesa College and started the Applied Music program with Dr. Robinson. I knew immediately that the class was both demanding and rewarding. He is my adviser and personal drum instructor. He has given me a drive and inspired me to work as hard as I can towards my musical goals. Best drum teacher I've had.
World Music ensemble is a graet class! It really had opened my eyes to different cultures and musical styles I would have never known. Prof Robinson expects a lot from the students but you'll also learn a ton.
Scott had some great lectures. I learned a lot of the history of rock and roll. His class was a bit tough but i got a B and he was a fair grader on the essay hw's and exams. He also had a good personality and was fun to listen to. Very passionate about the history and lineage of the rock formation it seemed. The kind of guy id want to come back&see
There is no doubt that Dr. Robinson is a knowledgable professor. However, the online platform he uses for this class is terrible and extremely confusing to use. It is very easy to make simple technical mistakes that will affect your grade. Dr. Robinson is rigid with grading and will not care. I would recommend a different online class.
Professor Robinson is laid back and interesting. He uses an online class for Rock History from Norton that is completely in Canvas. Everything you need is included for less than $50.00. There are a few writing assignments, discussions, and online multiple choice quiz for each chapter. Easy but interesting!
I took Introduction to Music online with Prof. Robinson in Spring 2020. It was easy peasy in Canvas but there is a LMS connection to a Norton site that is a little tricky to set up. Once you do that - it's smooth sailing. Some quizzes and assignments all online .If you like to learn about what music - this is an informing class!
Once you set up the LMS through Canvas, it is smooth sailing. You can take the quizzes as many times as you want too. The readings are super interesting. Professor Robinson is very chill. He is good at communicating due dates on Canvas. He says "Rock on" a lot. It's a good time.
This Professor was extremely unhelpful. The layout of his class was very unfriendly, and he showed no willingness to help you in any capacity. His attitude is not a good fit for a teaching environment, and I would encourage all to stay well clear of his class.
I was very upset with this professor. He was extremely rude, and illustrated on many occasions that he simply did not care. The layout of the course was difficult to navigate, and when I asked for help, he simply ignored me. To conclude, I will sadly state that this man is an awful professor, and I would not recommend his class whatsoever.
History of rock online is easy as long as you do the work. You got to know canvas but if you follow directions and make the deadlines - easy A!
I also took introduction to music in spring 2020 with prof. Robinson. I found him to be timely and his Canvas class is easy to navigate. You have to work steadily though or you can miss deadlines. Still is was not difficult.
The moodle system he used was not great and, in order to submit you assignments, you need to know HTML well in order to format them in Chicago style within a text box. He knows his stuff and is open to learning from his students. Make sure you submit on time, in the correct format, if you want good grades.
East online rock history canvas class at mesa. Just follow directions and guidelines and submit your assignments by deadlines and it's a breeze!
I took online intro to music with him in spring. it's a canvas class so pretty easy if you've taken online classes before. You do have to buy the access code for like $50 or you can do the quizzes. He was always available for me in Zoom if I needed to ask questions and he grades real quick.
I took Intro to Music with him last semester. His class was all in Canvas and well laid out. It was work due each week but easy if you read the chapter and follow the directions. Take+++++++!!
World Music with Prof. Robinson was awesome! He plays tons of instruments and knows all about music from every part of the world! We even did an assignment where we ate foods from different cultures! It was an easy A and fun!!
I took Robinson's Canvas History of Rock class in Intersession and got an A. It's real easy to go through if you read and follow the directions. You have to buy the access e-book for like $40.00 but the materials are really good! Prof. grades quickly and lets you make up some discussion if you do them wrong. Definitely take!!
I'm taking his World Music online in spring semester. It costs $50 for the code to get the e-book but everything else is totally in Canvas - super easy to deal with but there are lots of real short music quizzes on sounds from all over the world. I took his Rock class online in the break. He's great for online, really makes sure you know what to do
The class itself was very self explanatory. Weekly short answer assignments covering the topics you're currently covering in class, followed by a multiple choice quiz. Professor Robinson is very quick to respond to emails and is one of the few professors who shows leniency towards submitting late work.
Dr. N. Robinson is a rare professor that does more than your average professor. He sends out notifications to remind you when quizzes and weekly chapter work is due. With his clear and organized weekly course material, feedback on grading in order to correct your mistakes is needed for students to succeed, especially during a 6-week online course.
Very great teacher would take him again.
I really enjoyed this class! There were a lot of quizzes but they were pretty easy.
I took his intersession course & it was such an awesome online course! He is very involved with the class by sending frequent reminders about deadlines & any missing assignments; he is invested in his students' success. This is a very easy class to pass as long as you keep up with the assignments and deadlines! Recommended 10/10!
This professor is terrible. He makes you type your essays online and won't accept cut and paste from word or other sources. That's so obnoxious and unnecessary. He also doesn't respect the intelligence and drive of his students. He sends copious emails threatening students to do the work or he'll fail them. Why not wait and trust them to do it?
Assignments consist of reading quizzes, short essays, and discussion questions. Contrary to other reviews, he sends emails to students reminding them of assignments the night before they are due if not submitted. I always submitted last minute but never got a threat. He seems short-tempered, but it's just that he is very well versed in technology.
I just finished a summer class with Dr. Robinson. He was very helpful with lots of reminders of work due and was flexible no deadlines (but not the one on the last day!). Easy peasy if you are organized and stay on top of what's due in syllabus. Take!
Easy online class in world music. Some of the assignments involve trying different things fro other cultures. It was interesting!
Cool rock class! You learn about all the different styles, and he is big on reminders for anything you have to turn in. It's all online. Take!!!!!
The Music of The Beatles!! Awesome class!
Professor Robinson shows that he cares about his students' success. He sends reminder emails throughout the week of assignments and due dates which is most helpful since we all lead busy lives. He also makes himself available responding quickly to your emails. He is fair, reasonable, and considerate. I give FIVE STARS for PROFESSOR ROBINSON!!!
This class ROCKS! I learned more than I imagined! Who knew there was SO MUCH to learn about the history of rock music?! Professor Robinson is extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic about this course! He makes the WEALTH of information easy to process. He's very supportive & shares his love of rock with others. Take the course! You'll be amazed!
After reading all the good ratings and reviews, I was excited to take this class but was dropped on the second day due to technical issues on the Norton site he uses for quizzes. I was at work scrambling to figure out how to fix the issue and was even transparent the situation and was still dropped. Communication was rude and not helpful.
I really enjoyed his class. All online and easy, as long as you read the textbook and do the work (writing assignments and quizzes), very simple. He sends reminders and emails for due dates constantly so you never forget. Everything was through canvas, I had no issues, and it was very straightforward. 10/10 Professor Robinson!
I took Prof. Robinson's online Rock History class during Intersession. It's very well organized and he keep in touch with you throughout the week about what's due. He's a quick grader so I always new what my grade was. He also let me make up missed for within 24 hours so what's not to like? Rockin' class!!
Prof. N. Robinson was great! If you are trying to get your area3 covered for art and humanities, def take this class! I took him during my intersession, and I didn't feel overwhelm once. He would email you and ask about our homework. It was light work, it was 4 quizzes but easy, and it provides the textbook while taking it and simple assignments.
Super easy class, easy to get an A on assignments if you cite your sources. Just read and complete work on time and you're guaranteed to get a perfect grade. He's super quick to grade too!
Easy class on the Music of The Beatles! We covered everything from their music to films! What's not to like . . it's The Beatles!!
I took his World Music Online class. It's easy but interesting. There is a cheap digital package to buy for like $40.00 and the entire class is online in Canvas. A quiz a week and a few easy discussions and short essays.
I took him for the 8 weeks class. It is mainly comprised of 3 essays, quizzes and discussions. The essays and quizzes are easy if you listen to the lectures attentively. The discussions are based on your experience. His video lectures are clear, easy to understand, and enjoyable. He sends you notification near the deadline, which is nice.
After 3 days of class, he sent 4 emails to students (in one day) who hadn't purchased txtbook yet, threatening to drop us by 5pm. He meant 5pm eastern time so dropped us by 2pm. Nothing in syllabus said we need to purchase txtbook to avoid being dropped within 3 days. By the time I got to my emails, it was too late & I had been dropped from class.
I took The Music of The Beatles online in spring. The class is awesome - everything is completely online in Canvas - he has lectures recorded with examples! You don't have to buy anything. It was easy, too!
I did this cool Rock Music History class in the Intersession winter break with Professor Robinson. It's intense doing an entire semester in just 4 weeks but he sends out lots of reminders about what's due. Just keep up with the syllabus due dates and you're fine. It's all online but you have to buy a digital materials package for like $40.00.
I honestly couldn't stand this man. I had an A in the class and never turned in work late & he was still always blowing up my personal inbox about my work not being turned in before the due date. Then when I did turn in something late due to medical problems he blew me off & said I should've read the syllabus. Once in his class was more than enough
I took History of Rock Music online this summer. It was intense doing 16 weeks of work in 6 but that is what the summer class is! If you stay on top of due dates in the syllabus and once yourself, you'll do fine as the work is easy. He gives you lots of reminders and grades things quickly.
Rock music online was awesome! He sends tons of emails to stay in touch with you to get the work done. He was flexible;e too and allowed me to make up some missed quizzes.
Awesome class on Music of the Beatles! A-Z! We did all the albums, singles, movies even the cartoons and solo albums. Really interesting presentations and easy work! Take!!!
Online World Music survey class, really easy but you have to stay on top of the work due each week. I took the 8 weeks version so a lot of work each week. He sends you tons of email reminders for each assignment so you are constantly in touch with him even though the class doesn't meet as a group.
This class is a breeze. You have chapter quizzes on InQuizitive every week which can be done in like 30 mins and sometimes you have a writing assignment which aren't that bad either. He is a super easy grader so do not stress to much. Def take this class if u need the credit and like rock music because it is super interesting and fun!!!!
Class and material is very straight forward. I rented the book through Chegg. It's basically one open book, chapter quiz a week and a few discussion posts/essays over the semester. The quiz website connected to the Norton textbook was confusing at first, but I got the hang of it. I learned and listened to a lot of music.
Awesome class on The Beatles A-Z! 3 tests, 3 quizzes and 2 papers. He has everything set up in Canvas - nothing to buy at all!
Easy and interesting class on World Music - you read a pdf e-text, take a chapter quiz and listening quiz each week plus some discussions and 2 reports. Real easy if you keep up with work due each week. Everything is online.
Dr. Robinson rocks! This class covers everything about The Beatles - songs, record, movies, everything! It's pretty easy if you listen to the lectures and get ready for the quizzes and tests. Only 2 papers to write.
I took this history of rock class in intercession. It was intense doing entire semester of work in 1 month but he's very clear in syllabus about what is due and when. He sends you tons of reminders! It's easy if you stay up on doing the work. I knocked out something each day and it was a breeze!
Easy class, insanely annoying professor
terrible professor
Worst professor I ever had. Avoid unless you enjoy torture.
Rock history class online - it was easy but work due each week so you have to keep up on it. He let's you make it up if you miss something.
I took this 8 weeks class on World Music Online. It's a lot of work to do an entire class at last 8 weeks of semester but everything is really easy and all in Canvas. He sends you tons of reminders and lets you make up anything you missed. If you want to knock out a gen ed requirement in 8 weeks this is it!
Easy rock history class - all online but you have to buy an ebook. 1 quiz a week plus a few papers and a few discussions. Lots of email reminders and he keeps in touch with you each week.
Got a 100% in the class. Very easy and minimal but informational and the material is all in the textbook if you want to further understand. Weekly quizzes can be done in 20-30 minutes and able to get 100% on them if you just keep answering questions. 4 discussions and 4 small papers that are done throughout the year.
Awesome class on the Beatles A-Z! 3 quizzes, 3 tests and 2 papers. All in canvas with nothing to buy!
Super easy class on Asian & Pacific Music! Easy A for sure! Nothing to by - everything is in Canvas - just listen to the presentations, take a short easy quiz, some simple discussion on your experiences in life, and a few writing assignments!
I enjoyed this online class on Asian & Pacific Music. He takes from all over th Middle East, India, all of Asia and the Pacific Islands in easy to follow video lectures. There are a few papers and some discussions and quizzes. Great way to knock out a cultural gen ed requirement!
Music 103 was great. I really liked how clear cut the directions were in this class. Professor Robinson took at the absolute most 2 hours to grade all assignments. The use of "Inquizitive" online was awesome and really helped me to learn the material. Highly recommend this class if you're a rock and roll fan.
Professor N. Robinson is amazing! He's the best professor I've ever had. Every week, he sent emails reminding us about our assignments, which really helped. Even when I submitted an assignment late, he accepted it and gave me full credit. The class material was fun and easy to understand. I finished the class with 98% on canvas.
Professor Robinson has been writing his own positive reviews on here. His comments read like advertisements to take his classes. Notice how many of them mention that there is no textbook or a low-cost one, and that he sends email reminders, as if that's the best thing about himself as a teacher. He's also very rude and condescending in his emails.
I took the online intersession class, and within the first day, I was sending emails to him, with responses seeming generic and copied. Long story short, if you take him, you can't take breaks once you start a textbook assignment. otherwise, you trouble him to open the grade book to update your grade
I took his class in the intersession and it was not to hard. 4 discussions, 4 essays and 16 quizzes on a website call W.W Norton. The book was $55 after tax. He is not a tough grader, but he will not give you feedback. The website can be very confusing, but is not hard to get used to.
Professor dropped me from the class because I missed 2 quizzes after paying for course materials. Completely disrespectful of my time and money to be dropped weeks into the semester. Disappointing since I was enjoying the class material to be dropped because I am taking classes part time and feel slightly behind. Terrible, deplorable actions.
The History of Rock n Roll Music 103 was in online format however Professor Robinson was a genius at making the class go swiftly thanks to his online canvas setup. He is caring and supportive. I enjoyed the class and would take him again.
The course is straightforward. However, Mr. Robinson struggles with communication. His tone always feels annoyed, and his responses are always generic. For someone with such strict rules, I would expect him to show more care. (pretty sure he doesn't read the essays, and good luck trying to reach out)
