Nice guy but he has no focus and is a bad lecturer. Some lectures have incorrect/outdated info. Unproffesional; left class for an interview after 20 min.; once had phone ring 4X and picked up & had conversations during class 3X. An easy class (lets you grade your own multiple choice midterm) but if you want to learn/have a good prof. DO NOT take.
Good professor, lots of reading, tests are average
If you do not mind taking a course taught by a terrible lecturer with an unprofessional attitude and teaches by reading wikipedia articles out loud, then by all means take his class. However, the class is not that difficult and the readings are interesting. Now if he would actually go over what we read, I might have felt the class was worth it.
Very easy professor, don't take if you want to learn something new. The guy is very helpful and wants you to do well. Talk to him after class or in office hours. DO THE READING. Everything revolves around them. Overall very good guy. Not enought time in the class to go over everything.
EXTREMELY intelligent and knowledgable and one of the nicest people you will ever meet. However, he is extremely disorganized, scatterbrained, and perpetualy late (he usualy came to class 10-15 minutes late). If you have questions you would do well to talk to him outside of class.
nice guy BUT as others said, he sometimes comes late to class and he uses wikipedia in class and reads some of the readings word for word; exams are not necessarily difficult but his wording is confusing, i was completely prepared for the exam but did terribly due to unclear questions; the last two papers were due at the same time
He is such a nice guy and a good teacher. He knows his stuff. The class is super super easy. Just go to class, take it easy and have fun with it!! no books, easy, just bare with him...he comes late sometimes and is totally disorganized, but its ok. totally worth the easy A.
What a waste of money. He can't lecture for his life. Reads Wikipedia entries as his lecture. Let's students grade their own quizzes (B- class avg for them), and let's groups of students write papers. He doesn't give a final. You'll learn absolutely nothing and wish you hadn't signed up for his class at the end. It's not worth an easy A, trust me.
Great professor. Unless you need a professor to hold your hand, disregard the below comment. He treats his students like adults and provides them with as much material and insight as they're willing to take advantage of. You'll learn as much as you choose -- he obviously isn't there to babysit.
This clas was a complete waste of my time. All he would do is read from Wikipedia and he is beyond disorganized. By far one of the worst classes and professors I have had at GW. He is a nice man, but I got nothing out of the class, and didn't learn a thing. I would never recommend this professor. Horrible.
Boring, lectures jump all over. Want to learn? Avoid Mikhail.
His class is a complete waste of time. It is nice to get an easy A but his class actually just makes you feel like you are wasting both your time and money. Actually cuts and copies parts of his outlines from Wikipedia. Also spends sometimes more then half of class taking attendance.
This class is super easy but also super boring. I didn't learn a single thing. My time would have been better spent doing just about anything else.
This guy is a joke. Class is useless. He comes in 15 minutes late every day with a trader joe's bag stuffed with outlines, the only materials he uses to teach the class. Rarely uses the book, grades arbitratily and subjectively.
I got an A, but I did not learn a thing. He was always late to my 8:30 class on the Vern. Kids get up SO early to make it to the the vern at that time, it was absolutely ridiculous that he would stroll in 20-30 minutes late every class and have the audacity to take attendance on top of it all. I slept through every class...Waste of $2000.
As others have said before me, I did not learn a thing. He's a genuinely nice guy, always says hi to me outside of class. He's just not a good professor. The biggest problem I had with him was being up to a half hour late for an 8:30 class ON THE VERN, and then have the audacity to take attendance. It's VERY unprofessional
He is the best professor I have met here at GWU. He cares so much for his students. I did not do well on the mid term but I attended every lecture and took notes so he gave me a really good grade. Thats fair.
WORST PROFESSOR I'VE EVER EVER EVER HAD! He comes 30 minutes late to EVERY class, is COMPLETELY impossible to understand, can't decide when and what to have exams on, teaches using Wikipedia and outlines that have little information, and the list goes on. I was really interested in international politics, but this professor has taught me NOTHING!
Probably the worst professor I have ever had. His grading is completely arbitrary, he shows up late to class everyday, and is impossible to understand. Seems like he is intelligent, just does not know how to teach. I learned NOTHING from this class. AVOID him at all costs if you can.
Professor Mikhail is a really easy teacher if you get to know him. I got an A in the class because i really got to know him well plus he's a pretty easy grader as it is. the multiple choice test was hard only because there were random questions. Overall i'd say i enjoyed the professor way more than i enjoyed the class
Nabil is easily the NICEST man on earth, and if he likes you, then you're in good. If not, then you're probably going to have some work to do. Class attendance is not mandatory till the last part of the semester, but his tests are short, multiple choice, and half the time, disputable. Take him if you need an easy A !!
Probably the nicest guy on the planet. Other than Colin Powell, I don't think he has ever said anything bad about anybody. He learns everybody's name and treats you more like a friend than a student. Oh and he is a ridiculously easy grader
I agree with everyone else. Incredibly easy. I spent every class playing solitaire. BUT very nice and cares about his students, always has funny stories. Just eat lunch with him, show interest, and you've got your A. Oh and don't bother with the readings, just skim for essays.
You don't need a textbook because it's never used, but you do need one if you want to learn anything, because you definitely won't from this professor. Easy is an arbitrary term. There are three multiple choice tests and three papers, totaling about 20 pages. Pretty easy grader... but I still don't recommend.
Checks attendance, but doesn't count. I think he somehow uses it for you, or against you. Exams require reading, but papers are pretty easy. I say give it a try. Teaches wikipeida LMAO!
He is the nicest, most helpful and understanding professor I've had at GWU by far!
I took his class a few years ago and hardly remember anything from it, but he is by far one of the sweetest professors at GW. Really wants to get to know his students and will remember your name long after you were in his class. I adore him, such a great guy.
Professor Mikhail is a terrific professor he is an expert in his field and really cares about students is incredibly bright and has terrific lectures.
I feel deceived to have paid for this class, bc everything I learned this semester (if at all) is from wikipedia. The class seemed to be a costly joke. But then I feel bad about criticizing him since he really is one of the sweetest prof.s in gw. Papers are easy, but multiple choices are bizarre, not easy. Don't expect to learn much from this class
If you want to learn nothing, take this class. He's easy enough, and a nice guy. However, i have never had a worse teacher in my life. Most of the class is spent on wikipedia or discussing the weakness of the vern bus system. Completely disorganized and incomprehensible. Plays favorites for grades. I'm disappointed in GW's hiring standards.
Professor Mikhail is one of the nicest professors you will ever meet. He will do anything for you if you respect him and fulfill class policy. That being said, he isn't the best teacher and is very disorganized which irritates some students. Despite that, the class is easy, and you do learn some interesting things from his lectures.
I found this class to be a waste of my time and money. He is proof that being a smart and friendly guy does not make a good professor. We had 3 papers and 1 quiz to determine grade. All of this occurred in the last month of semester. Not a positive experience to say the least. His office hours/extra sessions are better than class. He is late always
He's a nice a guy, but really not a good teacher. It is VERY easy to get an A in the class if you attend the class. Take Mikhail if you have a requirement and want a good grade for not a lot of work. Don't take him if you actually want to learn International Relations.
Professor Bill Mikhail is the man. One of the nicest, friendly, and coolest man I have ever met. Firstly, all you stuck up GW students, get over yourself, wikipedia is just as good as Dr. Nau's $200 textbook. In fact, its better. Secondly, the professor comes on time now. Finally, read this man's articles online, he is very intelligent.
good.
I used to think he wasn't bad, but honestly he is BY FAR the worst professor at GW. He is a complete waste of money, and even though the class is an easy A, you have to have NERVES OF STEEL to sit through 1 hr,15 mins with him. If you are a vegetable who got into GW by some system glitch and knows NOTHING about ANYTHING, you might learn something.
The absent-minded professor. He's usually late to class, takes attendance for 5 minutes, and then reviews our assinged reading in class with the aid of Google images. Occasionally actually lectures on original material. I learned little from this class. The most difficult part is motivating yourself to show up.
Professor Mikhail is very well learned in his field. His course is extremely informative and challenging. He offers students high levels of insight and information related to the subject. He is always open for help. His lectures are very informing, substantial and engaging. He is an asset to GW.
Prof. Mikhail is one of the nicest guys out there. He's all over the place, so just bare with him. Any of his classes are big GPA boosts, but you do take away valuable information after his classes. Not a great teacher, but there are few people I know who are nicer and care more than he does. Great guy.
He is the nicest professor in GW ever!!!!
Very nice professor, but tends to ramble and doesn't make sense at times. Attendance is mandatory, but going to class can be a waste of time. Basically spells out all of the tests and is a liberal grader. Class is easy, but not a great deal of material is covered.
He is a good teacher. Lectures go off track a bit but still interesting. He really does not give a lot of material because he wants his studnets to actually learn some stuff instead of memorizing a lot and forgeting the rest. Nice guy and gives essay test questions days before the test. Easy on grading most things. Good class to take.
AWESOME professor. So nice and so helpful. Highly recommend!
Mikhail is probably the nicest guy in the entire world, and that is without exaggeration. His class is easy but it is pretty boring, befuddled, and unorganized. It is one paper and 3 exams and he gives you the answers beforehand. Not worth it if you want to learn a lot but a great guy
lectures are all over the place, but the man has a LOT of knowledge. He will give you the exam questions+answers before the tests, so there is no surprise, just pre-write all ur answers. A good attendance record will give you an A. The essay is easy. Super easy class, super laid back, NO homework. No nothing. Take it!!!
I've taken 2 classes with Professor Mikhail and he is among one of the most interesting individuals at GW. Not only is he a nice and fun guy to be around outside the classroom, but his passion for the subject is contagious and you actually learn something...despite the trip to MV, both classes were very much worth it.
VERY knowledgeable professor. Certainly learned quite a bit, and appreciated his openness/accessibility to students.
Lectures are really unorganized, hands out lecture outlines but aren't helpful. Gives answers to exams so you just have to pre-write answers, grades easily too. Take him if you don't mind not learning much about international politics because that is what will happen, felt unsatisfied. go to class prepare for the exams and you'll get an easy A.
Nice guy, but not really professor material. His unorganized lectures are basically going over his outlines and giving random explanations. He also stops the class a lot to answer his phone. Easy grader, test answers are on outlines and google. Overall, I barely learned anything from him and would've learned more by reading the book on my own.
One of my favorite professors ever! He is very smart and very passionate about what he is teaching. Prof. Mikhail is a great professor. He has knowledge about everything that is going on in world politics. His assignents are not boring at all. If you attend to his classes and participate, you're all set! Definetly reccomand him!
Nicest professor I've had. Lectures are very unorganized and pointless, but go. He gives you the exam essay Qs. Answer them before the exam and you'll do fine. GPA boost, but not for political junkies who want to learn.
Prof. Nabil is a nice guy, a guy of very low intellectual powers, unorganized, diffused thoughts, a decisive negative contribution to GWU intellectual tradition.
The first 2 midterms are easy because he gives you the questions and an outline of the answers he wants you to include. But 95% of the time I didn't understand what he was saying and lectures were super unorganized. The third midterm I barely understood what the questions were unclear and the essay was really broad without a lot of direction.
easy A. learn nothing. lectures are spent watching him do google image searches, fumble with technology, ask students for help with said technology, and misuse common American sayings like "kill two birds with ONE bird".sweet guy though.
Professor Mikhail is great and he is also very helpful. When I had a question about one of our term papers, he e-mailed me promptly and was able to answer my question effectively. He prepares you well for the exams and wants to ensure all his students do very well. He cares about his students and the topic of the subject & class. Very great course!
Dr Mikhail is great. The class was easy and he kept the material relevant to what is currently happening in the Pol world. The exam questions are clear. You could prepare your essays before the exam and score a very high grade. The grade is controlled by your will to work. Also, his explanation was detailed and very much welcomes questions.
Professor Mikhail is a really great guy, who honestly just wants you to do well. He reviews the material very extensively before each test and tells you exactly what you need to know for it. There is no reason why anyone should do poorly in this class. If you don't take him for Intro to International Politics you are making a mistake.
Professor Mikhail gives the class very much help in preparing for the exams, and the lectures are a little bit all over the place. This class gives you a good sense of the history of and current foreign policies. I learned a lot. Not much homework for this course besides preparing for the exams.
The class is great.Take it if you want to understand IR. The professor has an extensive knowledge, a great attitude, explains examples thoroughly, and is ready to help anytime. Exams are reasonably hard but everything is covered in class. Lectures are engaging and discuss current and past IR issues,so attendance is preferred.
Professor Mikhail was a great professor!!! If you work hard in this class and ask questions he is more than willing to help! He is extremely nice and resourceful in International Politics, if you work hard and ask questions in this class there is no reason you should not receive an A.
literally the nicest guy every. I don't know how people can say he has low intellectual level when he commonly appears on BBC world news and does interviews like every day. he even gives his students the opportunity to go to these things with him. So helpful super easy and such a sweet guy. the learn what you want from the class. Take him!
Great Professor! Wants students to do well and is very approachable. Passionate about topic and very helpful and willing to go the extra mile to make sure you understand the course material. Exams consistently based on material learned in lectures.
Mikhail is a nice guy but SO unclear. He goes off on tangents and shows unhelpful videos during lecture that he thinks will be helpful but really aren't. While he gives you the Q&As for two midterms, the MC midterm is formatted so confusingly that it was hard to understand what he's asking.
Very approachable professor and wants you to succeed. All of the test material comes from lectures, so no surprises and fair grader. Mikhail also often incorporates outside material such as videos and news articles to make the course material more applicable.
Take this class. Trust me. You're a poli sci major, the other option is Downes (aka Downe goes the GPA), and you probably hope to go to law school (GPAimportant). Everything you'll learn on int. pol. will be in upper levels anyway. Won't learn a thing, can't really understand him during lecture, but he's a super nice guy. Show up an easy A.
Professor Mikhail was great for International Politics. He taught specifically in preparation for the exam; there were no surprises. The grade was based on three essay exams, one multiple choice exam, and one essay. Everything was self-explanatory and his lectures were very helpful. He knows his information and utilizes images to help.
He was very nice and was very fair.
Mikhail is a very approachable professor and his Intro to IR was fun. His lectures can be a bit confusing at times, but he provides extensive study guides before each test. Studying the study guide and Google can pretty much get you through the class. He does test info from the textbook that he doesn't discuss in class. He also takes attendance.
Professor Mikhail is very nice and always willing to help his students. He provides enough information to do well on the tests if you prepare from the outlines. He is a fair grader and very committed to his students. Overall, I would recommend his class.
Great professor! Has a vast knowledge in the field of International Politics. He is very encouraging and always wants his students to do well. He provides an extensive study guide for exams and will tell you exactly what he expects. He can sometimes side-track from the subject but provides a chance for students to come with him for TV interviews.
Professor Mikhail was my favorite professor of the semester. His teaching style is completely unorthodox but he is a wealth of knowledge. If you're a political science major you'll get an A by just showing up 75% of the time.
Professor Mikhail is an amazingly knowledgeable professor who is often interviewed on BBC and CNN. His class is pretty easy and the tests are not very hard. But he is the sweetest man ever and 2 years after taking his class, he still knows my name and stops me on the street to say hi.
He is the sweetest guy ever. He genuinely cares about each of his students and knows everyone by name. His lectures are kind of all over the place and he is quite disorganized. However, he does prepare you for the tests in class and gives comprehensive study guides.
Professor Mikhail is the most caring professor I've had at GW. He goes above and beyond to make sure that you get the help you request. Although his class may seem disorganized, he has purposefully made it flexible so that he can accommodate his students and current events that pop up.
Professor Bill, as he prefers to be called, was a truly perfect professor who elucidated ideally the many difficult and challenging concepts of International Security Politics. I thoroughly enjoyed the class, learned very much, and would highly recommend. Please, do not read the newspaper in class. He also makes many television appearances!
Professor Mikhail is an amazing person. He did his best to help me understand the material and requirements for the class, papers, and the exams. He even went as far as to stay after class and explain his lectures and engage in discussions. I learned a great deal, and have even applied materials learned in his class to my other classes and papers.
Professor Bill is great. His class is both intriguing and well worth the trip to the Vern to take. He is very accessible for extra help on papers and exam prep. I have kept a long-going friendship with the professor since taking this class and he is always open to sharing his expert knowledge of world events with me. A+ teacher highly recommend
Professor Mikhail/Bill is one of the best professors I have ever had at GW. He is extremely kind and understanding, and he is an expert on International Security. He goes beyond the philosophical side and teaches the specific intricacies of government security policy making. He is very kind and cares deeply about his students unlike any professo
Professor Mikhail is certainly on of the best professor I have had at GW. I still keep in contact with him and he is willing to help outside of the classroom. If you need to fill the "Intro to IR" requirement, he is the one to take. He even took a student to the BBC studio once for an interview he had! Fairly easy and interesting class
One of GW's best IR professors with a profession that relates to his course. As long as you understand the varius IR theories he covers (realism, liberalism, constuctivism) you should be fine. He lets you know what is going to be on his tests in advance as well. I 100% recommend.
Is clear about what tests are on. Only grades in the class are tests and a couple essays. Very well-versed
Professor Mikhail is a very knowledgeable professor in the field of Political Science. He has two mid term exams and one final where he provides a clear criteria of what he expects. He cares for his students and is easily accessible outside class. He gives students opportunities like going for television interviews with him. Overall great class!
Pros: - Nicest caring guy, considerate of religions and your personal lives, learns your names - Amazing at drawing maps on the spot, knowledgeable about middle eastern history and issues, interviewed by BBC - Go to class and try to learn and you will with quite an easy A Cons: - unclear and unorganized sometimes - computer issues ruin a class
Show up and try to learn and you'll get a great grade. If you get to know him he is so nice and you get to like his quirks. Very cool about phones and eating in class, religious holidays, and everything really. Little disorganized lectures.
the most caring professor I have ever had at GW. When he is involved with cool interviews or government things, he offers for his students to come with him if he can. he sends each student a christmas card. he will remember everything you tell him. he is truly just a caring man. as far as his class, if you don't do well that is on you. he knows PSC
Professor Mikhail is the most genuinely nice and fair professor you will find at GW. He is very knowledgeable and made an incredible effort to reach out to me outside of class. For example, we read a book in class by a rockstar author on a squadron in Iraq. Fantastic book. Without telling us, the next day he brought the author to meet all of us.
Professor Mikhail inspires students to actually want to be a part of the international affairs community and that is one of the best qualities a professor can have. He is very knowledgeable and will help students get to where they want to go-- even long after they have finished his course. I still use his material as a knowledge base.
Prof Mikhail is the best, most caring, and definitely most memorable professor I have ever had at GW. I took both of his classes and wish I could take them again. He knows what he is talking about and has unique experiences that only make his lectures most interesting. I have never seen a professor show so much care for his students! Take the class
He is a fantastic teacher! He truly cares about every one of his students. He constantly offers us opportunities to go with him to film for BBC or go to events. Many of the comments here neglect to consider that he has a different style of teaching. Not every teacher will spell things out. If you listen to him and do your readings- you'll learn!
Professor Mikhail is a great International Politics professor. If you get the chance, take his class! He truly cares about his students and will work with you whenever you need help. You will learn a lot about IR and he is clearly passionate about the topic.
Professor Mikhail shows an invested interested in each student, especially if you meet with him outside of class. His main agendum is for the students to be successful. While his lecture style may be a bit unorthodox at times, the quality and quantity of information he communicates in a relatable fashion is very telling.
Haha this man, classic quirky dude, knows his stuff but idk if he portrays that and I can't tell you a thing I've learned from this class but you realistically never have to go except for the review and tests, makes outlines and reviews for you to study from, basically tells you what's on every test - i would take him again for this requirement
He is a knowledge and friendly professor. He is very unorthodox and can be extremely unique and strange but he is a knowledgeable man who cars for his students.
Nabil is a total Legend. e makes the class very easy for his students because he genuinely wants to see everyone succeed. Incredibly qualified and very quirky. Take this class if you are interested in international politics but also need a GPA boost.
Bill is one funny guy. Pretty disorganized however. Take this class if you need the GPA boost, he doesn't believe in giving students lower than an A-
Professor Mihail is a great guy. He is highly intelligent and knows his material inside and out. The professor is extremely passionate and will tend to every student's needs. The exams were easy if you studied. The class itself is okay, I would recommend taking the class if you are aiming to get a relatively easy A.
Professor Mikhail is the best professor GWU has to offer. I have recommended him to many friends and would be lucky to take any of his classes again. He genuinely cares about every student he has, which is rare nowadays. He is an extremely smart man and is knowledgable about all he teaches. Show up to class and give him you full attention for an A!
Bill is a genuinely great instructor who is passionate about his students doing well. You are graded by 3 tests and about 3 take home assignments, along with attendance, he provides accurate study guides for each of the tests and assignments allowing students to accurately understand what is expected of each assignment
Professor Mikhail is passionate about what he teaches. You will finish the semester with an amazing grade if you listen to his lectures and the comments he makes during class. Pay attention to the readings as it is what the tests will be based on, they are all vert interesting and easy to read. He cares about his students deeply.
