Absolutely awful. Unprepared, unapproachable, dubious tests, group projects graded unfairly. Stay away.
Very mean man. 5 mins in he closes the door and u can not come late. Grades work hard.
He is an excellent professor who makes sure everyone does well in his class. He talked about real life experiences and how students will make it. He is very caring and helpful when it comes to international students. Take him! He is the best!
His lectures dont consist of what is on the tests, read the back of each chapter for the test and forget about what he says in class
Take him if you want to learn about effective communication. He is willing to work with you if you attend class regularly.
Horrible professor, tests do not reflect what he teachs in class, everything comes out of the book.
He's a straight forward mean hearted professor. You have to sweet your blood to get an A in his class coz he hardly gives any A's
If you are not looking to get an "A" then take him, will learn a lot but get ready for sleepless nights, his tests are the MOST difficult! If your GPA is high I would suggest to stay away, only 1 student got an "A" in class...
Dr. Chaaban is a very nice professor and easy going. He makes learning fun and enjoyable. he is challenging, but very accommodating. Take him for SP108. He is wonderful.
This guy is very cool. He's pretty hard, but very funny. You must read the book. I took him over the summer and got a B.
When I took him over the summer, I had no problems with his accent. he was very clear and straightforward. He is hard, but you will learn a lot. He is funny and very caring. I strongly recommend him.
Funny and fun class...hard tests/assignments. The tests sometimes covers things we have not, or goes in to things not even in the book.
His class was awful. He constantly made inappropriate remarks to female students. Also, his tests did not reflect the things that were done in class. He was laid back but it was probably because he was never really prepared for class. STAY AWAY!
From what I heard about other speech professors he is hard. Great teacher and very funny. I took him over the summer and got a B. His accent is definetly not hard to understand. You laugh the whole time especially when u do skits. Great guy and fun class, but difficult.
Dr Chaaban is the worst professor I have ever had. He talks about the most useless stuff in class and does not know how to teach properly. His tests are impossible, they have no relation to what is done in class. If I could do things over again I never would have taken his class and definately taken a different teacher. STAY AWAY NO MATTER WHAT.
I took him last semester and he was wonderful. I have to say that he is tough, but you really learn a lot. He goes over all important issues and makes sure everyone understands. He rocks!
He is definitely the best for SP108. Many times I went to see him for help and he was always helful, especially when it comes to speeches and group work. He exams are challenging, but if you read the chapters you will do very well. Take hime and you will enjoy the class.
I liked Dr. Chaaban and he way of teaching. The speeches were hard, but he made sure you were prepared. I really liked the skits we did in class. They were really fun to do. He was a good teacher.
He is cool makes class interesting. Just study for the test which aren't that hard and you'll be fine
DON'T take this guys class. The class is very boring, he sits up front and just talks about nothing really that will be on the tests. The tests you gotta read the book to do well on them. This guy also plays favorites in the class and i was not on his favorite list for some reason. DON't come late for his class. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS
He is funny! I loved his class! His test are pretty self explanitory, just read the book, and you will be perfectly fine. He makes dull situations really funny and he tries to help you not be so nervous when you are presenting. He grades easy as long as you follow all directions and dont use "umm" in your presentation because he really takes off

His class was the most fun I had all semester. The tests are not really difficult, a lot is common sense, I barely read the book and I got a B. I recommend him!
One thing I will say is that he is very personable, helpful, and always makes you laugh. He can be tough, but he makes you learn a lot.
I took him for SP112 on Saturdays and he was wonderful. He has many different assignments that really prepare you for the real world. Exams are not that easy, but he covers everything in class. I strongly recommend him.
Do not take his class! He was terrible! He didn't help his students at all in the class and he flirts with most of the female students. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!
He tries very hard to make the subject matter interesting. Always makes sure that students participate and challenges everyone. I recommend him highly.
All I can say is he's one eccentric guy. All lectures are straight from the book (which you better read the assigned chapters before each class). Speech isn't amazing subject. Although the tests weren't extremely easy, this was my best class as a freshman because it didn't feel like a typical classroom setting. All students' personality came out.
I really learned useful skills in communication. Many times, I used the skills we discussed in class and really gained lot out of them. A good class and instructor. Take him.

Great teacher!!! A really fun class. The quizzes are pretty hard, but if you read the book you can manage. He shows a great interest in the class and tries to make it fun and an enjoyable experience!!! My favorite class this semester!!!

His class is fun. But that class was the most hardest class in my freshman year. He grades very hard, tests are extremly hard. I think his grading was unfair. Overall to get a good grade you got to work very hard, as for learning you will learn.
Prof Chaaban is an incredible teacher. He is straight forward and all his examples in real life are good examples to elaborate the topics in the book. He is very understanding and that is probably why girls like him so much.
Dr. Chaaban is very passionate and understanding. He is very caring, especially when it comes to poor grades and speech anxiety. He is definitely the best for speech.
His world is his class. he cares too much about his class, so you have to care too.
I have always put Speech for last, but when I finally took it with Dr. Chaaban, I really never regreted it. He is very passionate and helpful. He always helps students, especially when it comes to speeches. He is the best you can have for speech.
Dr. Chaaban is a little wierd but a cool guy overall. He made the class interesting and really cares about the students. Tests are kinda hard you need to study the book and attend class to get a good grade. I learned a lot in his class.
I took SP108 with him during summer. He is very good & essay teacher. He will give a lot of points at the end. My grad was c in class but he gave me B. He is very nice.
Great teacher, you should have him
Dr. Chaaban is a little difficult but very caring and interesting. He makes sure that you understand all assignments and gives very clear directions. If you need help, make sure you ask for it as he is always willing to help. Take him and you will enjoy the class.
I wasn't incredibly impressed by this teacher... However, the teaching was adequate.
The only professor who makes you work hard and laugh at the same time. He was fantastic and very helpful.
He's an OK teacher. As for his grading, it can be unfair but he's good just make sure when you do you paper let him see it first so that he will tell you what to correct and all will be well.
Don't bother answering questions in his class. No answer ever seems to be good enough for him. No exaggeration, you can read an answer straight out of the book (which he helped write, I believe) and he will say "Well, not exactly..." I took a blended course which is where I may have gone wrong. Oh, and definitely dress formally for speeches!
Dr. Chaaban rocks. I really love his class. he makes you laugh and work hard at the same time. He is extremely intelligent.
UMM i dont know what everyone else is talking about but this guy is not a good professor. He only favors the good looking females in class. and he makes stupid jokes like good answer you win mcdonalds. god forbid you come in late or miss a class. his grading is insane and his tests are worse. 3 speeches & the first speech is your group-10pgs
One of my favorite professors. I loved the speeches and the exercises we did in class. I went to him for help with my speech, and he was very helpful. He does not like students coming late, but let him know in advance. I recommend him, especially for SP108.
Tests based on rote-memorizing lists. 10x ways to fail - 20min late twice, certain assigns missed, dressed wrong, etc and you fail. Work 8hrs/wk on HW, take initiative, be eloquent & charismatic, and you *might* get a B. V. vague & noncommunicative. Learned nothing, and stressed over instructions for hours. Unfriendly, first to leave. Horr
The best professor every. Very caring and helpful. Always willing to explain concepts and assignments. Recommend him greatly.
He is the best. I really liked his teaching style and the way he lectures. I strongly recommend him.
The worst Professor I ever have! My GPA is 4, but now I am not sure after this class. He never use eye contact when he talks with students and he use very unrespectfull manner. I will not recommend him!!
I gained a lot from his class. He is extremely helpful and tried his best to help everyone, especially on the group project. He proofreads all work to make sure students do very well. Strongly recommend him.
He is simply the best I have ever taken. I feared speaking in public, but he made is super easy with his willingness to work with me and help me conquer the fear. He is very nice.
I was very scared of public speaking, especially speeches, but he really made me relaxed. I enjoyed coming class everyday. I did not like the group work but it was fun. He tell jokes sometimes to relieve speaking anxiety. I loved the class exercises.
I like his teaching style and his way of involving students in class discussions. He calls on every student to participate and he makes you feel very comfortalbe in class when participating. I recommend him.
He requires everyone to take part in a group project that is 15% of your grade. Everyone has to speak as part of the project and if one group member fails, everyone fails. So, I had an "A" grade and after he graded our group project, I got a "C" for the course. I complained that it was unfair but he would not change my grade.
This course should be called 100 ways to fail! The group project was 20% of the grade. If one student didn't speak properly, participate,in group project, etc. - whole group fails project!I had high grades "A" on tests and personal speaking assignments but because of group project, I got a "C" for course. Worst instructor ever!He speaks poor English
If you need an "A" grade to get into a future program, etc. - do not take his class. Your likelihood of getting an "A" is about the same as winning a grand prize in the lottery. He fails students for missing a class; for not answering questions as he would like; for group members failing group project. If a "C" or "D" works for you, then take him!
Those who said he is not good are lazy and cannot do the work. Our group got an A and I got an A and so also are other group members. He is the best. As for his English, he wrote two books and speaks is better than native speakers. He has an accent, but he is the best and most caring professor.
I really loved his class. He is a little difficult, but makes sure everyone learns. My group project was very informative. I loved his class discussions and he is just the best in what he teaches.
He does speak better English than many in the U.S.- those who came here from other countries and speak broken English! My class had about two-thirds of the class drop out due to his teaching/grading. He sets up the groups and if you end up with one group member who does not do group work - then whole group fails group project. Miss a class - U fail
Some of us as soooooooooo lazy when a teacher who is excellent challenges us, we panic and do not like him because he has strong standards. Yes, if you are lazy, he will make you work and learn. In his class, you will earn your grade, not just get it. He is by far the BEST and very caring.
Tough class, not as easy as you would think. You MUST attend his classes and read the book. Tests can be hard-tricky questions that you can only answer from the book. He is not the most organized, but will respond to emails. I got an A!
If you take his class you will regret it! On his first two exams, everyone failed except for two out of 18 students. He finds reasons to take off points on speeches, which results in your being lucky to receive 50% on them. The net of this is that you will be lucky to get a "C" or "D" in his class. The posts of students getting "A" are frauds.
As others have written, you will get a very low grade,or end up failing his class; even if you are a good student. For example,on grading speeches, instead of giving you a score based upon how you did on each part, adding up to 100%,he takes points off for various things. The points he can take off is more than 100% of the possible score. Beware!
Do not believe the positive posts regarding Chaaban. Either Chaaban, his friends, or relatives post positive comments regarding him/his classes often; in order to offset the valid posts by his current and former students. If you are extremely lucky, can can possibly get a "B" in his course; but most get a "C", "D", of "F" in his classes.
HE DOES NOT CURVE YOUR GRADE!If the highest score on an exam is 100/200-this is your final score "F"!Your final grade will reflect you obtained 100 points for this exam. So, given most students score 50% or less on his exams, and the exams are about 30% of your grade, one can see why most students only get a "C" or less for their final class grade.
His basic premise is that students get too high a grade in their classes. He has decided to make his class, exams, etc.- so that students cannot receive high grades. For example, on his exams, his questions are vague and poorly worded, so your answer will most likely be wrong. He will not give back points for his poor exam questions. Result: You Fail!
Speeches - He takes off points for your looking up/down/back, etc. too little/long, etc.; He takes off points for speaking too low/high, etc.; he takes off points for reading from cue cards, although you have to read from them as part of the speech. You lose points for speaking too long/short, etc. So, you lose about 50% of your total speech points
Group Projects - He selects group members. Most group members don't participate in group projects. So, one or two group members have to write the 12 page group paper (15 references minimum). But, grade is based upon all 5-6 group members speaking. Takes off points for speaking, as he does for individual speeches. Final group grade around 50% "F",
50% of your grade is from class participation, homework, and attendance. On this part of the class, you can get 95% - 100% of the total points.Adding your score on exams (50% out of total possible); and your score on speeches/group projects(50% out of total possible) - you end up with a mid- to low "C" grade for the class. If a "C" works - take him
NO EXTRA CREDIT! HE DOES NOT CURVE EXAMS or FINAL CLASS GRADES. He grades based upon strict total point percentages 90-100%(A); 80-89%(B);70-79%(C); and 60-69%(D). As others have written, you will only get about 50% on exams and speeches. Exams are worth 30% of grade; and speeches/group project are worth 20% of grade. So, final possible grade is "C"
Many students see posts by other students (few) regarding Chaaban, reporting that they received an "A" in his class. Most, if not all of them (if true) are MC faculty/staff member's children. It is a "policy" within MC that MC staff/faculty children are to receive "A" grades in MC classes. Instructors not adhering to this are often dismissed.
Not allowed to write anything on the exam proper, only on the Scantron answer sheet. He has many different versions of the exams. When you receive your exam back from him, he will claim you took one version of the exam, when in fact you took a different one. Result, you lose points for correctly answered questions - you cannot prove he cheated you.
Speeches and group project are not due/graded until after the time you can drop his class with a "W". So, students receive very low grades on group project and speeches, and realize they will only get a "C" or lower grade for the class, but it is too late to drop his class at that time. You will end up with a "C" or lower final grade as a result.
He is the worst teacher when it comes to encouraging students. Right before we were to give our speeches, he says, "If you over the time, I'll take points off. If you pause too much, I'll take points off. If you...I'll take points off." How are we not suppose to feel afraid and intimidated after that? He gave us no words of encouragement.
He believes that MC Students are stupid, "C" students, etc. So, he designs his courses/grades students so as to give them a "C" or lower grade in his classes. For the most part, he is right, that MC students are not the brightest group. But, to pre-judge students is not fair. If you want a "C" or lower grade for your speech class, take him!
I have to say that he is one of the best professors that I have taken at MC. He is very up front, challenging, and fair. He encourages students to work hard and he will reward them when they do he job. I know is is my favorite professor.
I am currently taking him and he is simply the best. I am sure it is the same person, yes same person, who has written all of the previous comments about him. Keep your lies alive, but he is simply the BEST and there is no questions. All the things I just read is not true..see his syllabus online and you will know he is very good.
As a returning student after 15 years in the service, he is my favorite professor. He strongly encourages us to work harder and gives us directions to work on our assignments. I love the class and hope to learn a lot from him.
NO MORE SUICIDES! NO MORE STUDENTS COMPLAINING TO MC ABOUT GETTING a "C" GRADE IN HIS CLASS! If you need to get a "B" or "A" in speech in order to get into another school, program, etc. - DO NOT TAKE HIM! If you are OK with getting a "C" or lower grade and just want to graduate from MC - take him. Any positive posts about him are very questionable.
WORST INSTRUCTOR AT MC! To say he is caring is like saying SADDAM HUSSEIN is caring. Saddam Hussein killed people and Chaaban kills students hopes and dreams of getting into good schools, getting accepted into professional schools, etc. He only cares about himself and his ego! To say he rewards students is ridiculous. He is a terrible instructor.
Wow, now it is very clear that it is the same lazy student who did not do his/her work and got a C is the one writing all the nonsense about one of the BEST EVERY PROFESSOR. Keep writing all your nonsense about him, but he still is the BEST.
I really, really loved his class. Very professional and challenging. If you are lazy, you will not like him. He makes you work hard and reward you for all. The most interesting and favorite instructor I have had.
OVER 90% OF HIS STUDENTS RECEIVE "C" or LOWER GRADES! A measure of a good instructor is that their students receive good grades. So, if such a large percentage of his students receive such low grades, it must mean he cannot teach! There are many good instructors at MC and Chaaban is not one of them.
HE IS SIMPLY THE BESSSSSSSSSSSSSST. EXCELLENT PROFESSOR. VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE AND FRIENDLY. YOU ROCK:)
HE IS THE MOST INTERESTING AND BEST EVER FACULTY MEMBER I CURRENTLY. HE IS SIMPLY THE BEST. VERY, VERY, VERY SMART AND FRIENDLY INSTRUCTOR.
he is theee best the only reson everyone hates on him is because they cant beleve someone forgen can have a ph.D in comm, so if you want to take his class go for it!!
DANGER! DANGER! GPA KILLER! Can/will you learn something in his class?Yes. But, you will kill your GPA because his exams are deliberately vague and poorly worded so that you will score low on them - and only he knows the correct answer to most questions. All of the positive posts about Chaaban are by him, his family, and friends. KILL YOUR GPA!
THE BEST. THE BEST. VERY NICE AND EASY. EASY.
I want to congratulate Dr. Chaaban for being my instructor this semester. You are just fantastic although sometimes difficult. You are just the BEST.
NEED VICTIMS! NEED VICTIMS! Each semester,Chaaban victimizes about 108 students (6 classes x18) He does this by cheating students on grading exams and speaking assignments. For example,on the answer sheet(Scantron), he will change your answers, substitute a different exam, etc. -so that you score the way he wants you to. You get grade he wants you to
I am so glad that it is the same lazy student who is writing all the comments about Dr. Chaaban. I know he put this sstraighten out this student by not giving easy grades. Way to go Dr. Chaaban. Keep up the good work and high standards.
HIGHEST DROP RATE OF ANY MC INSTRUCTOR! Chaaban consistently has a 50%-60% drop rate in all of his classes. Once students see that he does not curve grades, cheats students on exams and speeches - they drop his class. His classes have at most a couple of "B"s and the rest "C" and lower grades. MC schedule does not show true number still attending.
I took this class this past summer and had some personal issues, but the professor made it a lot easier on me and he was very accommodating. I really appreciated that.
Well, I read what the previous student said and then looked up his classes and saw that all are full with maximum. Stop your lies and realize that Dr. Chaaban is the best and super instructor. I love his class and lecture style. He keeps you interested and challenges you.
TO THE MORON WHO WROTE THAT CHAABAN'S CLASSES ARE FULL - MC stops updating the online class schedule showing drops from classes after about the 3rd week of classes. So, as students are dropping his class, the schedule no longer shows how many are in attendance. Students need to only ask the MC Registrar to confirm that this is how the system works.
HE IS A SICK AND EVIL PERSON- whenever someone posts a truthful comment about his grading - Chaaban, his wife or kids then post a response that they are taking his class and he is EASY. A decent person would be honest and let students know he is going to give them a "C" or "D" - but he insists on scamming financially poor students out of their $$$
I want to personally thank Dr. Chaaban for making the class easy and interesting. You are the best.
Dr. Chaaban ROCKS. You saved me from feeling shy and nervous when it comes to the speeches. You made me relax and very comfortable. Easy grading all the way:)
He really calms you down before speeches, talks to you if you have issues or difficulties, and makes sure you are very comfortable. He was my favorite when I took him.
He way of teaching makes class interesting and fun. Very friendly professor and willing to help. I recommend him.
I am currently taking his SP 108 class. He shows students his grade book and I can see that no one in my class is doing well. It looks like two students will get a "B' and the rest "C" or lower grades. So, it would appear that these posts of so many students getting an "A" are not true and that these posts are to mislead you. I would not take him!
I like his teaching styles and grading. WebCT assignments are very easy and all you have to do is complete them and get your A. I like all the work that are easy.
EVERY MC SPEECH CLASS HAS STUDENTS WHO TOOK CHAABAN IN A PRIOR SEMESTER AND ARE NOW REPEATING THE COURSE - I took Chaaban last semester and I had to drop the class due to his grading. Over half of my current SP 108 class has students who took Chaaban and had to repeat the class; either because of a low grade or because they dropped his class.
EXCELLENT PROFESSOR---his personality is a PLUS for students.
Everyone in my class hates Chaaban for destroying their GPA. Several students and me, in my current SP 108 class, had a 4.0 GPA before taking Chaaban. Now we are getting C's in his class. Most of us are trying to get into good 4-year schools and getting a C grade in Chaaban's class will severely hurt our getting into good 4-year schools. I HATE HIM!
Dr. Chaaban is very caring and interesting. Students who come to class and complete the assignments, especially the WebCT assignments get A's. He is simply my favorite teacher. Excellent course and professor.
I learned about problem solving and public speaking in his class. Assignments are very clear and straight forward. Not difficult at all. Take him and you will learn a lot about business and professional communication. You are the BEST:)
Dr. Chaaban is one of the most caring and excellent faculty I have known. It was a blessing for me to take him. He is simply the best and extraordinary.
I love speech, I love Dr. Chaaban, I love his class, his lectures and way of teaching. You are the best keep up the excellent job.
GET THE TRUTH ABOUT CHAABAN! I am currently taking Chaaban on Mondays this Fall and no one in the class is getting an A. Come by the class, it meets from 8:55 - 9:55, and we will tell you the truth about Chaaban.
I am also taking him on Mondays and I got an A on my speech today so did other students. He is the best and very friendly. He ROCKS:)
I have to say that he really knows his stuff. He is very friendly and available to discuss problems with students. I really like the class and his way of teaching.
I asked my roommate before taking him and it is exactly what she said. He is the most carying, nice, challenging, and friendly faculty I have ever taken and seen. He is just the BEST for Speech and I am glad I took him. Take him for Speech.
I did very well on my speeches and he made sure I worked very hard on my outlines. I am happy and learned a lot. Very friendly man and always smiles and makes studens feel very very comfortable.
Take CHAABAN and avoid other instructors. He is one of the best I have had for a long time. I am so proud that I took him that I have recommended him to all my friends. Very friendly and nice man. Take CHAABAN. He ROCKS.
I loved every bit of the class. He is an excellent professor. Very caring and easy to deal with. Learned a lot and got my A:)
AVOID! He finds reasons to take points off of all assignments/speeches. He has trick exams so that you cannot score very high on them. Most of the positive posts about him on this site are fake - made by him or his family. If you take him, you will either drop or need to repeat the course. Ask others who have taken him to get the truth about him.
I am glad I had him for SP108. Very friendly and fair. Excellent in his lectures. Take him and you will enjoy the class.
I learned a lot in this class.
Dr. Chaaban is awesome. Very easy grader. Do the work and you will get an A. He was very clear with what he expected from you for your speeches. His syllabus outlines the entire class and has long as you read it, you will know exactly what to expect.
Guy is a joke, received my only B at MC in this class. Tests are easy, but he shows no effort to teach. Lectures consist of him reading a powerpoint he didn't create that lists talking points right from the book. He grades speeches (including your 8-10 page group project) in minutes. Lazy, doesn't care, I do not recommend.
I could not have asked for a better caring and excellent professor. Very helpful, especially with outlines and papers. He is funny and easy to talk with.
Dr. Chaban spends half his time referring his students to the books he has authored. He is sarcastic and a horrible teacher in my opinion.
I dont know what everyone else is saying; Dr.Chaaban is a really good professor. He likes to be funny and his autobiography is pretty interesting. In my opinion all his students need a sense of humor before coming into class.
It's like you have to learn the material on your own. STUDY STUDY STUDY for this class if you decide to sign up for it
AVOID THIS PROFESSOR. He makes stereotypical jokes. Tests are ridiculously hard. Takes off points whenever he can for presentations and papers. I wish I hadn't taken him!
Sure his exams are very hard but he is a great teacher. Keeps you very involved and has a sarcastic sense of humor. Very clear on what he wants from you and helpful. I had a 7:50am class but I still loved going to it!
he makes you take these 8 -10 easy true or false quizs and doesnt even tell you that the exam has 150 questions on it and doesnt even prepare you! the whole class was blind sided! he doesnt even go over the black board assignments in class and is is really confusing, he acts lije he cant change any thing on the site whos teaching the teacher orSITE
The best teacher I have ever taken. Super kind and helpful.
Dr. Chaaban is a very nice man. He gives many quizzes, but the are all take home. You can use your book and did very well on them. He is friendly and willing to help.
One word that summarizes best this guy is No. If you have a chance to elect a different teacher for your communication class please do so! Very little help and tests are HARD!
My favorite course and he was my favorite instructor. He helped me and my group so much that we did an excellent job on the project.
Blended summer course, only 5 weeks. Super fast-paced. You must work REALLY hard or you will not do well. Prof Chaaban was funny and nice regarding our speech performance anxieties.
He is a nice person but since he's the head of department he has to make things hard. All my friends that took this class with different professors said it was an easy A. NOT WITH THIS PROFESSOR. There are 3 exams, 14 quizzes, 2 papers, 2 speeches, 1 group paper (10-12 pages) and many many discussion boards postings. Not recommended.
I really loved the course. He is very fair and very quick turn around with grading assignments. He gives you feedback and always willing to help. You will learn a lot from him.
Awful professor. Gives everyone a B or C, no matter the quality or effort of work. His exams are sloppily written and painfully vague. His lectures dull and uncreative. Powerpoints are directly ripped from textbook so you'll often find yourself asking "why am I here?" Do not take.
He is one of the most amazing professors. He is kind and always willing to help students. I loved the class and he is always encouraging students to work harder.
I cannot ask for a better professor. I loved his style of teaching. He involves everyone and makes sure you understand the concepts. I will take him for another class. Love his class very much.
I love his lectures. He forces everyone to participate in class everyday. Lectures are lively and he uses excellent examples. Very calm, smiles a lot, and always in a good mood. He makes sure that everyone understands the concepts. Take him he is a fantastic teacher.
Good professor. His instructions for papers can be vague and hard to understand, but if you contact him he clarifies and is often really willing to work with his students. His tests are hard but there are plenty of other grades to help bring the overall grade up.
I love this professor. He is such a kind man and willing to help. I visited him many times in his office and he was always willing to help. I had problems with my speeches and he went over everything with me and made me feel very comfortable. He is such an amazing teacher. One thing though: do your work and do it on time.
One of the true professors who is down to earth. Very helpful and easy to contact. He cares about his students and wants them to succeed. He gives good directions.
I took him for COMM108 online. Although he responded quickly to e-mails, too often were his responses short and vague. The workload is also craazy: 2 full size papers, huge group research paper, 2 speeches with detailed outlines, weekly discussion boards and quizzes, and 3 difficult exams. I worked A TON and barely got an A. I do NOT recommend
Just take him and you will love him. He is great and very helpful
I always avoided taking COMM108. I decided to take it with Dr. Chaaban and I loved it. He made me feel very comfortable especially when delivering speeches. Responds to emails fast and encourages his students to do well. very carrying professor.
Tests have absolutely nothing to do with the textbook or concepts discussed in class. He even says everyone fails: so doesn't that say more about his ability to teach than our knowledge?
He is one of my favorites. Very organized with his lectures and course work. I talked with him about my fear of presentations and he helped me a lot. He is one of the best comm professors.
Class was online but the 3 exams are taken on campus. These exams are hard so you must study. 5 minute true or false quizzes every week (he really wants you to read the book). His directions on the papers are not very clear but just do your best and you'll get a decent grade on them. 2 speeches with outlines were due at the end of the semester.
The class is basically self taught from the textbook itself. You read a chapter every week and take a 5 minute true/false quiz. The tests are taken on campus and weren't easy if you didn't read the book. 2 papers, 1 group paper, 2 video taped speeches with full sentence outlines.
In my opinion, Dr. Chaaban is a really good professor. I'm currently taking his COMM250 and I am really enjoying it. I can agree with people when they say this is basically a self taught class but in class, he never fails to make the class laugh. His assignments are very clear and he lets you know when everything is due in a timely manner.
For the online class you really have to read the textbook. The papers (2) were easy. The group project was a pain because its for an online class, but he graded easily. THE TESTS ARE HARD. Like study for 2 weeks and barely pass hard. Speeches (2) were posted online and easy. Not very clear on directions. He quickly responds to emails.
I took the online class which was pretty easy but you have to read the text. There is no way you are going to pass without reading the textbook. 1 quiz per chapter, 2 exams, 2 papers, 2 speeches, and 1 group project. The exams are tough since it's a lot info that you need remember. The time limits on the exams and quizzes are tough. 45 sec per ????
Very unwilling to help. Doesnt explain why certain points are taken off. Very confusing assignments. Would not recommend.
The best professor I have every had. He responded to all my questions and gave me extensions to assignments when I was sick. He is so amazing and helpful. He is a patient professor.
Simply the best professor for this course.
JUST TRUST ME AND TAKE THIS GUY!! YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT!! ONCE, HE REPLIED TO MY EMAIL AT 1 AM IN THE MORNING, THIS GUY IS A GEM!!!
I took this class over the first summer session; a lot of work, but not hard. The fourth week of class he assigned us five chapters, five quizzes, one exam, and the group paper. It was awful, especially since I was taking another class at the same time. Use the website with the flashcards and quizzes that he provides in the modules - it helps.
I had him for an online class. Beware he is a hard grader. For every paper you turn in be sure to make sure it's written like a novel. Very descriptive, give lots of examples, and read the textbook. He pretty much bases the class off the textbook so know it like the back of your hand.
Great professor, gives good examples com theories and is extremely funny when he uses his personal experiences. He is a bit of a tough grader when it comes to projects but just don't slack. You also need to read the textbook for his online quizzes (which aren't difficult). Overall, he is experienced professor & knows exactly what he's talking about
I took this online course during the first summer session. It is a lot of work & He is a very hard grader, you have to be a fantastic writer to do well. He took 25 points off my 100point speech for a stronger conclusion, that was his feedback! Also he gives -45 sec per question for quizzes and exams, which sucks if you are an anxious test taker.
Just the right professor for the course. A friendly professor who seeks his students interest and always wants them to succeed in his course. Easy grader.
Good professor. Very knowledgable and kind. He gives lots of examples and makes his quizzes all take home. All three exams are take home. It is really up to you on what grade you want. He is always ready to help his students.
Took his class online. He had the whole curriculum set out on the first day which was helpful. There was one group project research paper that was hard to complete especially with having other assignments, weekly readings, and discussions. Gives you 5 minutes for weekly quizzes, and 40 minutes for exams that are 50 multiple-choice questions.
This class is too much work crammed into a short online session. Exam questions are too wordy for 50 questions in a 40 min time limit. Group paper is a hassle, and all of the larger assignments are due in the last week. Papers are graded meticulously, and he says you didn't use enough in-text quotes/ideas even if you have 5+ in each paragraph
If you have a chance to take another professor, you should. Not a good professor. below mediocre. One of the worst professor. He barely gives feedback. When and if he does, it is very vague. Don't sign up with him. it is a waste of your money and time. You have to learn by yourself. He has 3 exams, 14 quizzes, 2 paper, 1 group paper, and 2 speech.
THE WORST PROFESSOR AT MC. I DON'T GET HOW THESE KIND OF PROFESSORS GET HIRED. HE IS ONE OF THE REASONS WHY A LOT OF PEOPLE DECIDES NOT TO GO TO COLLEGE. TAKE SOMEONE ELSE. YOU DESERVE A BETTER GRADE. HE NEVER LECTURES, IT WAS BASICALLY A SELF TAUGHT CLASS. HE NEVER GIVES GOOD FEEDBACK. HIS FEEDBACK ARE ALWAYS MORE DETAIL OR BETTER CITATION. WORST.
This class is basically self-taught. but I didn't expect to be lectured on a communication course. You must space out your time and complete assignments with time put in to each. There are 3 exams that are 50 questions with a time limit of 40 minutes. I would not recommend taking this DL course with other classes as it took all of my time.
An excellent professor who is willing to help his students with their assignments. I really liked the fact that he worked with me with my speeches. He is such a nice man and exceptional teacher.
I took his this past fall he was wonderful. I really like how the assignments are spread out and how he provides feedback. He is always there when you need him or have questions. I had some problems with the speeches and he really helped me out. he is great. One thing i really appreciated is the fact that he was always willing to help.
Very unclear syllabus, doesn't answer questions. Told me I did my assignments incorrectly when I hadn't, then acted like he was doing me a huge favor when I pointed it out and asked he re-grade it. I got an A, but I had to fight on every assignment to get the points I'd earned b/c he didn't see obvious things I'd included. ZERO feedback on grading.
I would discourage anyone from taking Dr. Chaaban's classes, even online. This is an intro-level community college course and he grades unfairly with little to no elaboration. Grade is based heavily on papers; writing is my academic strength and I am struggling to keep a B. He fails to provide any sound reasoning when asked for grade elaboration.
Very easy to talk with and if you have problems, always willing to help. He is great with this students. I will take him again if there are more electives.
I am glad and took him because he encouraged us through this pandemic to work and always ask him for help. He would always start our class by asking us how we were doing and feeling. Such a nice teacher.
Taking a teacher who cares for his students and makes sure you succeed were two main reasons I took him. Although I had to read a lot, but with his guidance I did a very good job. Very easy to talk with him. he is very helpful
He was very bad at giving feedback and not very clear when I emailed him.
If you are looking for a professor who is passionate and always willing to help his students, then take Dr. Chaaban. Do not be lazy or except to get an easy grade if you do not work. Work and he will reward you. Many times i asked for help and he was always ready to help me. Very nice man.
This professor was the absolute worst in responding to emails. I've sent him about 10 emails about assignments and only received a total of 2 emails from him. Not very clear about assignments and what should be expected and took off points on assignments without explaining what I did wrong. WOULDN'T TAKE AGAIN!!
Good professor. Took him this summer and he was great. Helped me get over my fear of public speaking and worked with me to present my speeches. Nice man to work with. I recommend him
I really enjoyed his class this summer. He is not difficult to approach and easy grader. The speeches were very clear and easy to do it. I loved our class interactions in the Discussion Board. I would definitely take another class with him, if possible.
Dr. Chaaban is actually very nice, but I had a frustrating experience. Does not respond to emails through Blackboard and in a DL course there's no other way to communicate. Does not provide much feedback considering the low grades he gives out. Students were confused about due dates and requirements. Maybe it would be better in person?
It was a required course and I did learn a lot. Professor was easy to approach and he responds to emails very fast. I like how he will make sure each student is doing fine and will send out weekly reminders. A good instructor.
I took him for a winter course, as expected it was somewhat difficult but his class made it for a great first winter course. There weren't meetings but he is a nice grader and very clear as to what he expects from his students. He is also very easy to access, he responds to emails in a orderly time!
I took COMM 108 as a winter course and it was worth it. The class was very easy quiz each week along with a discussion post and two replies to each post. One essay and two speeches and a group project, these all had a due date for the last day of classes so it was really at your own pace!
Absolutely the best professor so far. I enjoyed his class so much, especially the assignments, including the self concept paper. He was such a nice person. He wants everyone to do extremely good in his class. A very friendly professor. I will recommend him anytime. I will be taking another class with him.
I will take him anytime. I strongly recommend him. He is a kind and friendly professor who is always there for his students. Take him and you will definitely enjoy the class with him. Easy assignments, but many small ones.
Professor Chabaan was okay. Would I take him again? Probably not. There was a lot of work in a short period of time and he did not respond to emails well. For example, I would ask for clarity about directions and he would instruct me to read them again, which did not help. However, he does grade fairly quickly. The assignments are not hard.
Many of my friends said the speeches are not easy and they were afraid of the speeches. Dr. Chaaban made is so easy and he was so accommodating that I felt so good doing my speeches. He is a great professor. He is willing to help and he makes sure his students learn from the course.
he gives no clear instructions. not even on assignment sheets your still left confused. his spelling errors blew my mind for him to me doctor chaaban. 50 minutes for 50 question exams is overboard clearly not even enough time to think or answer. overall dont take the class even if its the only one left.its the only one left for a reason.
He is one of the most carying professors I have had. Very intelligent man. I know the DL courses are all the same with the same assignments, but he went beyond his duties to make things simple and to help us. He grades assignments on time and allows us to send him our work before submission before we submit it.
I never liked giving speehes but he made is very easy. We got to record our speeches and submit them. He was always willing to review them before submission. Just make sure you do the work on time and you will be very successful in his class. He is fast with email responses. I will take him again for another communication course.
This guy is a gem. He is passionate and very clear with directions. Always fun to listen to him. Fast email responses. He is always willing to help students
Great professor, the project was definitely my favorite part. The professor gives really nice feedbacks so do pay attention to those
Professor Chaaban was a mediocre professor, and the class itself is terrible if you're going to take it online. The group project is awful because he forces you to work with a bunch of online classmates who don't do anything, and he lacks the initiative and communicative ability to actually get them to do any work (how ironic).
One of the very few professors who really cares about his students. Down to earth and always willing to help his students. A very smart guy with excellent teaching style.
One of the very few who is willing to help and always sends out reminders to complete assignments. Group project can be difficult with students who do not want to work. He encourages everyone to work. A great class and I learned a lot from him. He was always prompts with responses to my concerns.
Professor Chaaban has friends and family write reviews for him. He "teaches" as a "side hustle"; bro literally works at 6+ local colleges teaching distance learning classes and raking up $$$$.
Very unreasonable, and non-sympathetic/empathetic. Please avoid and take the better professors. He's very unreasonable and the lessons are boring. Get ready to read a chapter every week and take a quiz. Very harsh grader. Please avoid! This has been by far the most stress-inducing class that I've ever taken at MC.
He was AWFUL ,not great at communicating , piled up the work on top of papers to submit and it was not worth it.
Professor Chaaban made me feel comfortable when giving presentations. He went over the directions, gave tips to calm down, and used a rubric for the evaluation. Always willing to help and meet with students.
Professor Chaaban is a mixed bag - some love him, others find him unreasonable. Assignments can be challenging but manageable with the right approach. unstuck study was a game-changer for my study prep.
Dr. Chaaban stands out to be one of the most knowledgeable and enthusiastic teacher. Never a dull moment in his class. Lectures involve everyone and he always made sure we participate. You need to work ahrd to get an A but very possible. He is very nice and always willing to help.
Possibly the worst class I have ever taken, if your considering taking an accelerated course with him I absolutely do not recommend him. He is a tough grader and nitpicks on details. Gives so much papers and expects so much work to be done in a week. I'm sure it was because it was accelerated course but if you're considering it PLEASE avoid it.
This is actually the worst online professor I have ever taken. He responds to emails super late and will NOT listen to you if you have a concern about an assignment. His email responses are very dry and he definitely does not know how blackboard works. I beg to switch to a different professor if you can.
Actually so terrible. Will not let you do good and super petty with assignments. Please do not take. Rate him lower so he can quit too.
He is the best. Very helpful and kind when you need him. I was nervous for the speech and he helped me a lot. Very easy grader.
Professor Chaaban is such a nice guy who is very helpful and easy. He makes sure you do good on assignments and receive a good grade. Very accommodating and helpful. I will take him again.
I have always feared public speaking. When I took COMM112 with Dr. Chaaban, I was nervous. But he really made it easy and everything was good. He was encouraging and understood when I had issues. He helped me out and made sure my outline was good and my delivery was effective. I really enjoyed having him as a professor.
He was just an amazing professor. This is my third class with him and he is a very easy and nice professor. I had issues with taking tests. He was so understanding. He told me do work hard and do my best and everything will be fine. I ended up with a good grade in the class.
Stay on top of assignments. He grades very strict on the writings and speeches, so follow rubric!!!! The exams were easy compared to the actual speeches (which we had a lot of). I complained about my grade on one of my assignments for awhile, and he eventually compromised. He almost always answered my emails. Final grade was curved!
He is prompt in replying to emails if you send it during the week. He normally does not reply over the weekend which I understand. I loves the speeches, the quizzes, and the Interpersonal Film Paper. Dr. Chaaban always sends out emails asking us if we need help or have questions. The group project was a challenge but we get a high score on it.
COMM250 is a difficult course but Dr. Chaaban made the lectures, class activities, and assignments fun and easy. He always applies stories to his lectures to make them entertaining. I loved the class lectures and how he asked each of us to participate. He is amazing.
I took this professor in the fall semester . He was a very hard grader, and he even cut points if the file was hard for him to open. I would not recommend this professor, and I would not take his class again. I WILL NOT RECOMMENDED . Thanks
I took him this past fall and he was amazing. He graded assignments on time and responded to emails very fast. He is a nice instructor and always makes sure students receive the help they need. I would not mind taking another course with him. An amazing professor.
