A very understanding professor. Do your work, come to class, participate in your group project, and you will be fine. He is nice, funny, and always willingness to help, especially those who are serious. Take him and you will be glad.
Definitely take him. He is the best you will ever have. Makes class fun, rewarding and exciting. Come to class and do your best.
He thinks he knows everything, but he does not.
HE is the best you can have for intercultural. A lot of experience and knowledge. He is very funny, but strict. Attend class regularly and participate in class discussion and you will be fine. he is the best:)
When I first registered for the class, I thought it was going to be boring, but he really made me like the course. He gives lots of examples and helps students understand about different cultures. You will love the course and learn interesting ideas. Take hime.
Very vague about assignments, difficult to get in touch with. "I get paid whether or not I actually teach you anything."
Dr. Chaaban really knows his stuff. He is the best you can have for Intercultural communication. Very clear with assignments and grades fairly. I really love his sense of humor. Class is entertaining and fun. He is tough though.
it seems he pulls the tests out of his A**, they make no sense and can have multiple answers. the class consists of lecture and taking notes, boring. He is very specific when it comes to speeches. I would not reccomend this teacher.
I really like him as a teacher. He was very informative with his lectures and directions. I love the group work and the speeches. I strongly recommend him, especially for SPD110.
His tests are insane, nothing like what the book teaches, I struggled to get an A
I do not recommend this class at all. Tests are hard not because the material is difficult but because they have multiple answers; however, they are all mult. choice made by the textbook so study online questions. His grading is easy but he does not actually read your papers so don't bother putting too much effort into them.
It really worth every penny of my tuition. I learned a whole bunch. He is difficult, but a very fair and understand professor. I strongly recommend him.
I have to say that he really know what he is talking about. The guy hs so much experience in the field of intercultural communication that he has excellent examples from each culture. I will recommend him without any hesistation. Tons and tons of knowledge and experience in the field.
this teacher sux, he is by far the worst prof. i have ever had. His directions where sooooo vague and basically refused to answer any indepth questions regarding the final project. I truely couldnt tell if he was just lazy or didnt care, i still regret not reporting him to the dean. My advice is steer clear of any course he teachs b/c its only goi
I took him for SPD229 and realized that I did not know much about cultures, including mine. Very specific and detail oriented. You will definitely work hard and learn a lot. I strongly recommend him.
He is a terrible professor. Does not know the material. Might as well read the book at home, except he expects you to be there to hear him read it to you. Unqualified to teach.
He is very knowledgeable and one of the few professors with a PH.D. He treats everyone with great respect especially the ladies. He is fun to take and makes sure that your learn and enjoy the class. Excellent professor.
The most qualified professor in Intercultural communication. I took him for both Intercultural and Public Speaking. He is the best and very helpful. He is one of the few most qualified professors out there.
I had Dr. Chaaban for SPD229 and he was fantastic. Very knowledgeable and confident. He shows you every way to succeed in his class. A very dedicated professor.
Be on time! if you are more than 10 min late, it is an absence, no exceptions. Tests are STRAIGHT from the book. I learned more from the book than from the professor honestly. One major group paper to write. He is not very helpful. Instead of teaching new topics he asks opinions around the room and leaves you on your own to figure out the rest.
I had Dr. Chaaban for SPD126 and I realy enjoyed the class. Exams are from the lecutres and textbook. They can be challenging, but if you study, you should be fine. He is great and take him you will enjoy the class and his stories.
Very unclear with directions for class. Unhelpful with questions.
A very helpful professor. Gives clear directions and always willing to help students. He is fun to have as a speech teacher.
Please don't take him. Avoid him by all means. Such a hard professor. No curve and tests are very hard.
His class is very hard but if you KEEP UP with the reading and follow his instructions then you will pass with at least a decent grade. His tests are from the chapters in the book so make sure you read!
He is such a nice person and very knowledgeable. I took him for Intercultural Communication and he always made us contribute to class discussions. Exams are challenging but he is always ready to help. I recommend him.
Do NOT TAKE him unless u'r want C or D forvery hard work.Moody, lazy, with bad attitude. Can be rude and cut you speech presentation in the middle.Do not expect A,he does not give them.Does not bother himself to explain why had cut your points. He thinks he is number one,so deal with it.Very bad proffesor. Was a big misstake to take his class!!!
I have Dr. Chaaban for SPD229 class and he is just fantastic. He goes over many concepts and makes sure that students understand the material. His exams are challengin, but very fair. I recommend him.
This is a required course for me and I am glad I had a wonderful teacher. Very smart, easy, and always willing to help. If you don't like talking, then he will make you talk. He calls on everyone in class to participate. Very caring man.
I did not really like the individual paper, but when I went to the event, I learned a lot. Dr. Chaaban have me specific directions and it was an easy paper to write. I like the way he conducts class, especially when he goes around asking everyone to participate in class. He is a good professor.
I took him for SPD110 and sure makes you work. You learn communication skills and he is always ready to help out. Very approachable and willing to listen. He makes you talk in class and answer questions. Take him.
He really challenges you to learn about speech and I'd have to say, its tough, but you learn what you NEED in the REAL world. Communication skills. Good teaching style, sometimes can be funny, detail oriented. Start your work early! Especially the speech, because it ain't easy. Worth the tuition to take Prof. Chaaban.
This class is very easy in the sense that you don't have to attend class to pass. The exams are right off the book and they are very confusing, but don't expect help from the professor he is useless. The hybrid class work is very easy, just make sure you read the chapters for the exams and that you pick your team for the group project very wisely
This class was challenging and very intersting. THe professor was there every single class and had wonderful stories and jokes to keep it interesting. He is such a nice guy and always there to help students. The best professor I have had so far.
This teacher is so mean. He tries to help, but he will give you less grade because you got help from him. He teaches nothing but powerpoint and have you to read a lot of heavy chapters. The worst thing is that his tests. The test would ask, for example, who said this?. Anyway, he is just so horrible teacher and mean. You will learn nothing from him
This teacher is so mean. He tries to help, but he will give you less grade because you got help from him. He teaches nothing but powerpoint and have you to read a lot of heavy chapters. The worst thing is that his tests. The test would ask, for example, who said this?. Anyway, you will learn nothing from him.
I'm amazed he has gotten such good reviews. Is this the same teacher? He can hardly speak english, his syllabus is completely innaccurate and contrary to expectations, he can't answer questions and doesn't return tests. My class had over a 60% drop rate. Literally the most incompetent teacher I've ever had. PLEASE don't take his class.
Lazy professor who interacts as little as possible with the class, and teaches from a chair in the corner of the classroom using only powerpoint. Gave unclear instructions for major class project and unhelpful when students tried to ask questions. Condescending in his instruction and treatment of students. I would never recommend this professor.
He reads the textbook to you in class. Tests are mainly on vocab and review questions at the end of the chapters. Inflates grades at end of semester (by calculation I had a B but received an A).
His lectures are very clear and staright forward. He answers questions carefully and makes sure everyone understands his answers. Always involves students in class discussions. He is the best. His is very helpful and understand. He wrote two books.
The worst prof. ever. DONT EVEN TAKE HIM. HE'S A GPA KILLER...I've done all assignments online, never missed a class, however managed to get a C and this is for all hard work I had done...(before my GPA was 3.8)
GPA Killer....pleaaaaaaaaaaase, dont take him !!!!
When it came to the speeches, he was extremely helpful. Very clear with directions and always willing to help students. Take him and you will have lots of fun.
The best for intercultural communication. You will hear wonderful stories that really relates to class concepts. He is so helpful and willing to help. You will enjoy the course, especially the examples and stories in class. Take him.
I had fear in speaking in public, but Dr. Chaaban made is so easy that I did all the speeches and got very good grades. He makes you feel very comfortable and willing to work.
I really loved the class last semester. He really challenges you and makes sure you learn and not just pass the course with easy grades. He is very professional and clear with assignments. He gives plenty of class time to work on assignments and works with students individually. Take him.
Prof. Chaaban's class is very easy, however he has a strict attendance policy. For whatever reason, If you do not attend he will fail you or force you to drop, even though he teaches straight out of the book. Unclear on group project and did not respond to e-mail until I was going to drop the class. Easy class if you can attend every week.
Dr. Chaaban is a really good professor. He makes you feel comfortable in his class by making it fun. This way you aren't as nervous when the day comes to deliver your speech. You do have to read the chapters and attend class on a regular basis.
If I had one more chance, I would never take his class. Never answers the mail. He is very strict about grading. However, he makes a pretty easy mood in the class.
I really love his teaching style and easy way of interacting with students. Very easy to talk with. He challenges you to learn and makes sure you do in class.
Not helpful at all. It is supposed to be about communication, but he is terrible at communicating. E-mails are sporadic, grading is incomprehensible, and no feedback on your work. If you all about learning, this is the wrong guy.
EXCELLENT PROFESSOR USEFUL FREQUENT EMAILS
Mr. Chaaban was nice and had lots of jokes, but he was very serious on his policy. Such as attendance and exams so as long as you follow those you should get a good grade. He does not make exceptions to his policy unless you make arrangements prior. Higly recommend to anyone
He is a really chill professor, and jokes around a lot in class. I would def recommend him. He WILL randomly pick on you to answer questions, but in all honestly i think he does that only to mess with students. His class was easy, but his exams were hard (you should have to read the textbook. His hybrid course is the best. TAKE HIM!!!
He is very confusing and a hard teacher. I think we started of 25 students in the class then ended up 11 left because everyone dropped his class. He is okay but you got to study hard all the exam questions are in the book. If I you want to get an A in the class then drop him.
He is a hard teacher. If you want to get an A in the class then drop him. I don't like his grading system coz it will likely fail the students. He explains everything well but the test is not from his explainations. The exams are hard and mainly from the bood. Read the book and make sure you know it word for word.
He is a hard teacher and I don't like his grading system. The exams are hard and you need to read and know the book word by word. Goodluck if you are taking him right now.
I am taking Dr. Chaaban right now and I find him to be very pleasant, interesting, super helpful. and always willing to help students. I do not know what these other two students are saying. Take him and you will enjoy him a lot.
I have to say that he is the most enthusiastic and helpful professor I have ever taken. He is always there to help and very nice.
One of my favorite professors this semester. I like the fact that he is easy to talk with and when you need help, he is always there to help you. International students like him a lot.
Well I took his online course...don't do it. He gives a group assignment worth almost half your grade in an online course, my group was lazy when I asked him what to do about it he said "follow the directions." Sorry but there are none for having a lazy group. Two papers due in one week & one week to do an exam covering 8 chpts. Need I say more?
I took Dr. Chaaban for an ONLINE course and he was wonderful. I constantly received encouraging emails from him and I loved the group project. My group got an A and he received our paper twice before we submitted it. He is the best. I am glad I took him.
Easily the worst professor I have had in the last two years. comes off as rude, doesn't make himself clear with assignments, and tests are based off of chapters that can have 60 to 100 pages with no guidance about what is on the exam. STAY AWAY.
I do not what the previous person said but it is not true. The most caring professor I have ever had. Very nice, polite and super helpful. I loved his class.
VERY difficult teacher! I am taking this class and definitely my least favorite. I thought this would be an easy class, but the teacher made it very difficult!
I have taken many online classes, but he is the best professor so far. He is very caring and responsive. I had problems with one of my papers, and he was super helpful. If you are lazy, stay away from him. If you want to work and learn, take him. The BEST
Hands down--the best instructor at NOVA for online course. I really like his super fast email responses. Very kind and caring. Take him if you want to learn.
The material for the course is easy to learn, and he grades the speeches and papers fairly generously. The difficulty is in the multiple choice question's that are selected for the exams. It isn't always somethings that's been covered in the course material. If you have a borderline grade he will help, i got a 897 and he rounded up to an A.
He is a hard teacher. His grading system is not the normal grading system. He goes by percentage.Let say Midtern 30%,So you need to get a total of 30 points out of 30 items in the exam or a perfect score to get the 30% if you scored 20 then you only got 20%. same with finals, assignments and paper works. His making the easy class hard. Don't take him
The best professor I had. Excellent in grading assignments faster and always answers to emails quickly. I loved his notes and clarity on assignments. I strongly recommend him.
Class was pretty straight foward. Great teacher. Replies to emails as fast as could be. Very Nice, and super helpful with any questions! You must do your work to get a good grade. :0
I love this professor. Down to earth and funny. He cares a lot about his students. Goes over chapters and gives good examples. Always willing to read assignments before submission
The professor was amazing. He was funny, kept making little jokes, kept the class entertained and always gets back your attention. He is a really smart person and very CLEAR on what he wants. So, if you are expecting him to be telling you to do you HW go back to High School. Every thing is in BB. He grades fairly and and give real life examples.
Avoid at all cost! This class could have been interesting, but there was so much work to do, you don't have time for anything else.
By far the nicest professor I have met. Very helpful and responds to emails quickly. Very intelligent and willing to help.
I like the way he spreads out the assignments. Very encouraging and nice. I learned a lot about communication. From him. Easy going instructor
Assignments are interesting enough considering I have no interest at all in the course material (which is obviously not his fault). Sometimes the requirements for papers and group work are confusing, but he is helpful if you email him. I thought the midterm and final were very easy. Group project is time consuming. Quick email response and grading
Do the work and you will receive a good grade. He is always willing to help you. His directions are very clear and he responds to emails very fast. I love the group project and the speech. I learned a lot from his class.
This professor is pretty clear on what he expects. Assignments are not overwhelming at all. He grades fairly easily on regular assignments, just be careful on the video speech and group project. My grade went down because of the group project since most of the others are not dependable.
This professor docks points for things that don't make sense. For the discussion boards I wrote about a paragraph for each comment&he docked points saying they weren't long enough. He never specified length of comments in the instructions. That is just one example. I work hard for my grades. I don't appreciate docked points for the heck of it.
Dr. Chaaban makes sure everyone understands the assignments before he moves on. He is very friendly, but does not like late submission of assignments. He will definitely help you if you need help. An easy grader. Take him and you will enjoy the class.
If you take his online course, it is very self-taught. His tests aren't too bad, reviewing his study guides and quizzes is very helpful. If you do not like public speaking, take this class; only 1 speech that you record, and only he sees it. He doesn't give a lot of feedback on your work. The group project is easy.
His class seems easy until you take the tests. He says he takes his own test and doesn't even score a 100%. The smartest person in the class got an 82% on his tests. He is a tough grader and requires much. Plus, their is a group project which is not the easiest and half of my members dropped the class which made it harder.I wouldn't take his class
Dr. Chaaban is such a nice professor. He makes sure you understand his assignments and he is very flexible when it comes to working with you. His is huge on attendance and on time submission of assignments. The course is pretty easy. The group project can be challenging, but he is always there to help you. I really enjoyed his class.
As a student who is very particular about picking his professors, I abhorred Dr. Chaaban (original professor dropped class to have a family). Dr. Chaaban spends little to no time grading work, gives everyone (regardless of effort) an equal grade, and his Blackboard course was so disorganized that reading a Greek manuscript would prove to be easier.
I could not have asked for a better professor than Dr. Chaaban. Very nice man with a strong background in the field of communication. He is very helpful and always willing to go out of his way to help. He has very, very interesting lectures and stories to explain the concepts.
He was a great professor! Online classes really require a teacher who is easy to work with and communicate with and he is for sure equipped for it! His class is easy and to the point, both exams are super easy! Do the work and you'll pass without a doubt. He's really nice and I would take a class with him again.
He's a really funny and nice guy, but is very strict with attendance and coming in late. Homework is easy, the exams are online on ur phone during class so you can go back and forth with google if you want lol. Other than that nice guy, doesnt mess with you too much.
3 Essays, 1 Group Project and 2 Very Hard Exams !
A very nice man who is really willing to help his students. He is caring and very nice. Responds emails quickly and explains assignments very well.
totally waste of time, if you are taking it first time you will losse your money and time . he is so rude he wont answer you properly even though if it is related to your course . hard to understand his lecture.
It was a wonderful experience and he showed that he cares a lot about his students. Lectures are organized and he is good at explaining concepts. The speech was challenging, but I got a 90 on it. He is a dedicated professor
Does not explain assignments AT ALL. When asked for clarification, he will not give a real answer. Does not explain what he wants to be included in a project and then will take points off when it isn't there. Lectures and examples have nothing to do with the tests or material we are expected to learn.
I loveeeee professor chabaan. I had an online class, was so understanding. If you going to be late with an assignment let the professor know and you complete it on your time.
Tough!! He spends little to no time grading work, he gave me the SAME grade for all the essays and group project. I worked so hard for it but nothing is good enough for him. It felt like he has no consideration for your work regardless of your effort. If you deserve an A for ur assignments, he will give you a B no matter what. Don't take it!!
A very nice man who is always wiling to help his students. I have many difficulties and he made me feel comfortable and was willing to help me each time. He is an easy grader. I got an A.
I have to say that I learned a lot about communication from him. The exams are not difficult, but require lot of reading. He is always there if you need him and he always sends reminders for due dates. He is down to earth with students.
Speaking in public is not my thing, but he was so relaxed and accommodating that I almost got rid of my fear. Such a nice person to deal with. When you need help, ask him and he will help out. His exams are easy and the speech was fun. I recommend him for CST110.
Dr. Chaaban has no problems challenging his students to their highest level. He makes sure you are learning and doing your best. Grading on speeches are very easy. He loves students who attends class regularly and participates. Easy A or B if you just do your best. He is very passionate about the subject and for students to succeed.
I like the fact that he was always ready to help students. If you talk to him ahead of time, he will extend assignments that are not submitted on time. He grades fairly and an easy professor. Take his class seriously and you will get a good grade. I loved his assignments and feedback.
Everything but his exams were easy. If you read the textbook word by word and memorize it you will pass the exam otherwise you wont. That was the only difficult thing about his class. His papers, disccuions online and speeches were all easy As if you follow the directions. If youre a bad test taker stay away.
I can understand the sentiment if you've been in the field for a while and have become desensitized to students actually wanting to learn. I feel if this the case, take a sabbatical to recharge. Don't "Only Give B's" because this mentality isn't constructive nor is it necessary. Yours truly - Student that actually enjoys learning
He's class was easy and as long as you do the work you'll be fine. The only thing I hate about his class was that he never gave feedback! EVER! Like I would work so hard on an assignment/project and to get a low grade and no feedback. he just constantly gives you same grade and done. His test were HARD!
I admittedly did not put my full effort into this class. I am a mathematics major and despite classes such as communications. That being said, this class was decent under the instruction of Dr. Chaaban. There was a moderate amount of assignments in the course and everything except the tests were fair. He needs to give more feedback on our work!
A nice man who is always willing to help his students. I asked for help many times when it came to the speeches and he was very helpful. I love the Discussion Board and his comments on them. He is a very good and EASY professor.
Took him for CST 110, he is okay but gives you B's as getting A from him is hard. He was a bit annoying to me as if I don't want to share my personal life things, he should be okay but he was not. However, that line was just for me I am pretty sure he can be a ''okay'' professor for y'all. Good luck with him to you guys he teaches good by the way.
A very good instructor who is really kind and passionate. He is friendly and makes lectures during our virtual very entertaining. He is helpful and grades assignments fairly east. You will enjoy his class. Make sure you participate and submits work on time and you will be fine. I will recommend me to anyone.
worked pretty hard on my speeches and i was fairly proud of the quality with most of them, yet he only gives B's. not only that but he offers no feedback. it was really frustrating putting all this care into my speeches and he would give me 89s on all my work but not even bother to tell me how i could do better. its not a hard class to pass however
Loved taking his class. He is just the best. Easy grader and very nice. Always helpful and willing to work with you so you can do a very good job in his class. I strongly recommend him
Took it online over the summer; medium course-load. The chapter quizzes were right from the notes. Textbook is not needed if you have a friend who can send you some pages (I only used it for citing some pages for essays). The exams are super easy if you do the chapter quizzes. He does provide little or no feedback on assignments. Overall, amazing!
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! He is a terrible grader and even if you try hard you won't get a good grade. He doesn't give that much work but he makes up for it with tests and projects that are impossible to get A's on. He deducts points if you stutter and don't give "eye contact" even though it's an online class.
His feedback is vague and he is a terrible communicator. I have reached out to him via email many times before the course ended to resolve an issue about late assignments due to a loss in my family and he replied late many times and did not do anything to help me. He consistently gave me B's as well with no feedback on why it is a B and not an A.
I had waited until the end to take CST229. I really loved it with Dr. Chaaban. He is such a nice person and directions are clear. His Canvas site is well organized and easy to navigate. I loved the teaching style. I will definitely take another class with him. Everyone loved the class.
I am so glad I took CST110 with him. I always reached out to him, especially for the speeches and he was nice and very helpful. I did not like the group project, but he made it easy and was helpful. It is nice to have a professor who is kind and willing to help students.
Professor Chaaban is a decent professor. You don't have to be a great speaker. A few points off here and there, but not enough to hurt your grade. This class is an easy 85-95 as long as you are making sure you submit everything on time and doing the quizzes. The amount of work is reasonable, I did this on top of my high school classes this spring.
Don't take the class with him
The worst!
BEWARE! He does not read emails unless you get his supervisor involded; took over a month for him to read my MOA, and even then he disregarded it. Horrible communicator with lack of understanding. Doesn't give feedback on assignments. BEWARE!
CST110 was a course that I left for my last semester. I took it with Dr. Chaaban and he was such a nice guy. HE responds to my email very fast, graded all assignments quickly and will take his time to make sure students understand all major assignments. His directions are very helpful and an easy grader.
I took this course in the spring, and I am really glad I did. Directions were clear and the due dates were easy to follow. He is very approachable and willing to help. If you are nervous in speaking, let him know. He is very accommodating.
I got an extension for eye surgery, but my work was marked late and ungraded for three weeks because he kept forgetting. he graded after 4th email. His course was poorly organized, with wrong dates on assignments and the final posted just two hours before the course ended. He blamed everything on technical issues without taking any accountability.
I had issues with my two speeches and he was super helpful. He helped me overcome the issues and allowed me to re-submit the speeches. He is a wonderful professor and who looks out for his students. Take him and you will enjoy the course.
He is such a good man. Very patient and listens to your difficulties if you experience them with speeches. I loved the group project and his feedback. He made sure we were on track on the project and always gave us feedback. I loved his teaching style. Easy grader.
Very political. Didn't answer emails most of the time.
Not any instructor can make you feel comfortable and relaxed. Dr. Chaaban made me very comfortable especially with my presentations. He is very accommodating and willing to help. My first speech was difficult but after taking with him, he gave e some tips and made me very relaxed.
