She's smart but her teaching style is so disfunctional. The lectures are incredibly rushed and she bounces from topic to topic as if its hopscotch. The homework is managable but her exam are on another level of difficult. For the first exam I had to check if I accidently logged into the wrong account in Himes cause I had no idea what I was doing.
lectures are extremely hard to follow because she jumps from topic to topic without really introducing them or going into detail. She also moves very fast during lectures and does not give enough time to actually write notes as she lectures. Homework is manageable but the first exam was torture and did not follow the exam review.
Shes not a bad teacher but the exams are completely different from the chapters learned in class. There was no way to prepare for the exams that were given they were very hard.
Horrible teacher, doesn't explain the answers and just assumes everyone knows. Ignores students when they have questions because "I have to get through a certain amount of material today".
If you haven't studied physics before and do not know about it, please do not take her. She lectures like you have been exposed to the laws of physics before, and she gets annoyed when you asks questions. She also said "Don't get mad at me over the test because I didn't make it. I didn't see the test until after you took it." Therefore deflecting.
Does not care if you understand the material and moves way too fast through the material with no explanation of a very difficult subject. Do not take if you have no prior knowledge of physics (or even if you do).
If you have the option of literally ANY OTHER PROFESSOR, take it. Plain and simple. She rushes through material, quoting over and over, "I have a certain set of material I have to get through today." Oh, you have a question - she doesn't care. Wait until the end of class and she still won't care. Prelecture work is helpful, but be ready to suffer.
Will not answer questions. Rushes through an entire chapter of work in one class. The first day we went straight to the lecture. No introduction or anything. Take Dr. Young if you can.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. if you are like me and there was no professor on the schedule booklet, once you find out she's your professor, change to another class as fast as you possibly can. She is by far one of the worst professors I've ever had. won't answer questions, speeds through lectures, and doesn't prepare you for any exams. Very rude.
This is one of the worst professors I have ever taken. Does not explain the concepts, speeds through the lectures, and will not answer emails. Switch out of her class if possible. If you have to take her, be prepared to learn a lot on your own.
I'd recommend taking her if you either A) Already know the entirety of the course material or B) Hate your life. If neither of these apply to you then run to Dr. Young's lecture ASAP. She can't teach to save her life and she's impossible to reason with. Dr. Young's posted lectures are the only reason that I've gotten through the class this semester
Honestly, if you have the option to take any other teacher available, take that one. And if no one else is available wait till someone is. She doesn't care about her students and she gives about .1 seconds for us to ask questions. You'll walk out of this class knowing less about physics than you did walking in. If you want to pass, take Dr. Young.
Goes through lectures too fast, does not answer questions until the end (not helpful), explains things poorly. She uploads ANOTHER professor's lectures on Moodle. I am going to take this class again, and I will make damn sure I do not take her. Participation questions in class. Four exams, many homework assignments, but the homework isn't bad.
Is a terrible teacher, she is very smart but is incapable of actually teaching the material. When asked for further understanding she will many times just laugh and move on or just restate herself. Seems to care very little about student success.
Many of the people reviewing here seem to forget that this is Dr. Sakr's first year teaching, and she has no control over what is on the exams. She doesn't even know what the exam questions will be beyond the basic concepts because they are pulled from a test bank. Not the best at teaching, but she's helpful in office hours and cares about students
Considering this is Dr. Sakr first year teaching, she is not bad at all. Lectures could use some touching up, but is accessible outside of class. Many times has she emailed me back with a certain problem and how she worked it. Regardless of teachers, physics takes some studying. If you are diligent, this class is very passable.
the absolute worst teacher in the physics department at LSU
This is Ms. Nadra's first year teaching, so her teaching is not the clearest, but she is great about office hours and is accessible outside of class. The way homework, notes, and exams are done are exactly the same as Young's professor. The way the physics department does exams is horrible, and she does not have control over that. Overall, she is ok
She was a very nice professor but very lecture heavy to the point youre reading through a lot of formulas not knowing when to use them. The test were a reflection of the practice exams. DO NOT USE CHEGG. IT WONT HELP.
She just sucks she speeds through lectures without explaining anything do NOT take this class
It was clear that Nadra Sakr was a brand new teacher. She was a nice person but an awful teacher. She could not teach physics to the students whatsoever. The LSU PHYS department needs to let students choose their teachers, give practice tests directly reflective of the test, and curve more. First class I've ever retaken, and I studied my butt off.
If you can take another section, do so. She made lectures incredibly boring and sped through the lecture without giving any time to allow the material to soak in to where you could even be in the position to ask questions. Then, when class was over, she would run out of the room so you couldn't even ask her a question if you needed to after class
There is a LOT of material to cover so she lectures quickly. Nadra is very sweet and accommodating and will always reexplain topics students ask for clarification on in class AND check for understanding during lecture IF YOU WANT TO PASS EXAMS then you MUST: 1. MUST rework all homework problems 2. reread all lecture ppt 3. study 3-4 days each exam
She’s a good professor, the subject itself (Physics) in LSU is hard, but she definetly makes it easier!
This class isn't really difficult but annoying. Lectures aren't the best and are quite monotone until she screams "MAKES SINCE" after every slide (which is very annoying). All in all, you should put time into learning the course because it isn't an easy class.
PHYS 2002 not an option but that's the class I took. Speeds through material, same lecture slides as every other professor. Physics department is just terrible in general. If you can, take Dr. Young, but that will only do so much for the flawed teaching styles and material determined by the department.
It's not an easy course ... it's physics! She solves lots of practice questions which really helps to understand. Practise tests are somewhat similar to the tests.
this class is just a difficult course in general and taking her does not make it easier. if you want to fail then take her, but if you want to pass then take someone else. although the homework is similar to the exams, having a professor that can not properly teach the subject will NOT help you pass them.
Professor Sakr has no aptitude for teaching in a classroom setting. She cannot convey material effectively, and in response just yells "Makes Since?" over and over. The class is passable with an A if you self teach through the textbook. Unfortunately, there are every day in-class quizzes. Every lecture makes me question why I bothered to show up.
Physics is hard period. Ignore the bad reviews if you're a decent student. She lectures quickly but all you have to do is read the slides at home and DO THE HOMEWORK! Don't chegg and you'll pass. She vastly improved from her first semester. Always re-explains topics if confused and she's funny and caring. Rework the homeworks to study for each exam
Sakr seems nice and was just thrown into a horrible department with no teaching experience of her own. She read off the same slides as everyone else, just 1000x faster. I ended up not going to lectures and just paying for outside tutoring because I wasn't learning anything from her. Physics is hard, but it would be less so if LSU didn't suck.
Even if you hate the way Dr. Sakr lectures, she posted all of the powerpoints in moodle with solutions. The homework was way harder than the exams, but don't chegg them. The Physics department claimed they wouldn't curve anything and curved every exam so don't worry.
She didn't put grades in all semester in time for drop date. On Wiley plus, my grade was higher than what she put on Moodle, and when i emailed her about it, she said she fixed it and that i passed the course. She then emailed me the day after stating i did not pass the course because she does the calculation for PLVs different than Wiley does it.
Professor Nadra Sakr cares a lot for her students and is an extremely nice teacher. The course itself is hard, so her lectures may not make the most sense. However, if you ask her questions, she is more than willing to help. Also, the quizzes are relatively straightforward. Just pay attention to the lecture.
She was a really sweet person, but you will not be prepared for the exams in her class. She would just read off of the power point, and she would most likely not know how to answer questions. The homework load is insane. Do the practice exams multiple times and know how to work all of the problems on it. They are similar to the actual exams.
If you are not good with algebra or trig then you will struggle in every problem and in exams. As they say, math is an essential tool used in physics so if you plan on taking this class, make sure that you are good at math if not then it would be a good idea to use the winter/summer break to do so, you'll thank yourself later. Heed that warning.
Physics is going to be hard no matter who you take. It's not a matter of WHO teaches it instead it's HOW you retain information. This class deals with a lot of practicing so don't expect to read for a bit, do one problem and think your ready...no. The HW is hard but it teaches you how to solve problems so utilize that practice. She is a good prof.
This subject is hard and it deals with a lot of practice. It's like math but adding in key concepts that change your whole equation. She is currently the better-rated prof, it's been a while since that has happened. Although it gets annoying when she repeats "make sense" she is always happy to help, but you gotta put a LOT of time into this course.
Physics is terrible no matter what but she is probably the best teacher in the department. Her class (all 3 sections) at least has the highest grade out of the like 12 sections for the semester. I would rather her who cares about you understanding then someone who doesnt.
Same structure as 2001, personally I feel that 2002 is easier than 2001. If you want to pass exams, give yourself some time to read the textbook and understand the concepts. Then jump into the HW and the Math side of it. Redo all the HWs, reread the book, and notes, and do the practice exams. 1st exam is the easiest of the semester so study hard.
Your best bet to pass is just paying for a good tutor. Review and work the practice exams and in-class problems/concepts a week before the exams and you should be in a good spot. Offered extra credit at the end of the semester which was nice. Keep your eyes peeled for HW and PLvs as there is multiple due per week. Grades participation on Top Hat.
Practice exams were very similar to the real exams.
The phys Department at LSU is just terrible, Sakr did the best she could to prepare us for the exams however it is hard whenever she has absolutely no control over the exams/course. She does many practice problems and explains well, which is way more than most of the other professors do. I would 100% take her again. Go to SI sessions too
Lecture was boring, TopHat questions were graded for correctness and participation but weren't given in every class which made it difficult because you could go to more than half of classes and still not get all participation points. Exams were nothing like homework, much more difficult! Equation sheet was a joke when using it for exams.
she shouldn't have this job
She does not teach in her lectures. I tried to be a good student and attend, but she basically just does the question without much explanation. You WILL have to teach yourself EVERYTHING, or find tutors. Exams are from a test bank and depends on your luck. Save your time and just enroll at a CC for the course to avoid a W.
I've honestly never had a worse professor. She'll work out problems in class in the weirdest and most complicated way and then say "Got it? Good" and move on. I tried contacting her through email for help but she wasn't willing to help me and basically told me I'm on my own. Unless you want to learn everything on your own, drop!
Only reads the lecture notes prepared on moodle. Hardly explains or goes over the intricate math that makes up 90% of what youre going to be tested on. When asked to do more problems in class instead of just reading the lecture notes she told me no she wouldn't, even though thats the bulk of the class. SI session is much better than her class.
I took honors and AP Physics in high school but didn't get high enough on AP exam to get college credit so I had to take this class. That being said, even with two previous physics courses under my belt, this class was ridiculously hard. She just zooms through someone else's slides in class and expects everyone to understand, so no point in going.
Sakr did the best she could to prepare us, but the physics department is terrible at LSU. I suggest going to tutoring and doing as many problems as you can .
She kept saying she couldn't do anything with your grade cause the LSU physics department doesn't allow it. There is no A if you miss two or more on the exam. I don't understand why a physics exam doesn't give partial points for our work. Just don't take physics.
Professor Sakr knows what she's talking about. She is a kind professor who always checks in to see if people have questions in class. But it is a lot of material that you cannot learn by just going to class, have to spend some time learning, YouTube helps. If you need a little boost at the end, she will help you out. Good professor hard class
Look the other way.
3 tests, 15 multiple choice each, Final is 22 multiple choice. Offers 2 bonus points for course. Homework/Clicker questions are 17% of grade and the three tests are 50% of grade, and final is 33% of your grade. I found her teaching confusing. You cannot afford to >2 on tests. If you can, try teaching to yourself via reading the online notes.
Physics is a hard subject, and Sakr does her best to teach it. However, her teaching style is confusing and there is little room for error. LSU Physics department sucks!
Sweet teacher and is willing to answer questions, but lectures aren't too helpful. Slides focus on derivations of equations and aren't the best. Practice tests help a ton.
She is super nice and post all of her notes. She does example problems in class and then tophat. She is one of the better professors for physics and more lenient when it comes to WILEY homework. Physics is just a hard class and wether or not you know how to do it.
Nadra isn't perfect, but she is probably one of the best professors you can take for PHYS 2110. She works through a lot of example problems in class to prepare you for the exams, and she is very clear about what is expected of you to do well on the exams. She also pronounces words funny and it keeps things entertaining.
I feel like she's a solid professor, she curves pretty well. maybe just me but this is the best I have done in a PHYS class.
I took for for 2113, but that wasn't an option. She's nice, but not the best teacher. Her lectures can get boring, as she just goes over the ppt slides. There's 3 tests, WileyPlus hw per chp, & Tophat questions every class for attendance. Tests are by the physics department, so I recommend studying past tests given to prepare.
Very nice lady, just a hard subject to teach. Gave the summer session 40 extra bonus points because we were doing so bad. Attendance taken on an app but you don't actually have to be there. Highly recommend a tutor. Not sure how people without one pass. Or even take at a Comm. college in summer to avoid dropping your GPA. Not impossible but beware.
I enjoyed Professor Sakr, I feel like physics is just a hard course in general at LSU. Luckily for my degree audit, a D is considered a passing grade but she curved fairly to give students the best outcome possible for such a rigorous course in a short amount of time.
Can't teach subject effectively. Speeds through everything making it complicated.
Sakr cares that students are understanding the material. Ask her questions during lecture if you don't understand. She gives big hints on what the test questions will look like. However, her lectures were somewhat boring/not engaging.
I like her as a person not a teacher. The tests are just hard and she does not explain everything step by step and expects us to know things in the lecture. I would get a good tutor.
Prof Sakr is a very nice person but I really struggled to understand her teaching style. The HW was super easy since it was set up with unlimited tries and gave you the answer after a couple. The exams were like the practice exams as well. She mostly went over slides with problems that did not correlate well to the exams.
She goes a little fast over the slides, but explains it pretty well. Make sure to do the practice exams on wiley before every exam. They are worth bonus and a very good way to gauge how you will do on the real exams. Wiley homework is much harder than what you need to know.
Nadra gets too much hate just because the material is difficult. She isn't perfect but she would be pretty clear about what types of problems to expect on the exams, it was just up to you to know them. I used Jai for tutoring and he saved me a lot of time while preparing me very well for any type of problems they would put on the exam.
Honestly, it's hard to rate the physics professors at lsu independently cause they use the same material. The department gives like 42 bonus points at the end of the semester. I personally don't think lectures help for this class. The only thing is Young provides more practice material and she only gives 1 practice exam per exam except the final.
Nadra is nowhere near as bad as people chalk her up to be. I can't lie, though, she zooms thru lectures and it can be really hard to keep up. Physics is pretty difficult, too, but nowhere near impossible. Give full effort and getting the grade you want is within reach.
If you go to class gives big hints on what will be on exams but lectures are kinda boring so only about 20/75 people showed up by the last few weeks she posts a lot of practice do that and you will be fine for at least a B
Lecture, in class quizzes, and tests are all taught and explained very ambiguously. Not a single examination of students skills have any form of structure. Every in class quiz and test is more so having a "tricky variable" brain teaser rather than actually testing the student's ability to comprehend the content. Calculators are a NEED for exams.
Most practice and at home material is nothing like your exams. I would suggest getting tutored but no matter what just expect to learn physics and know how to do physics on your own if you take Nadra. Explanations are unclear, homework's are harder than in class assignments, and tests are like 100000 times harder than that. Good luck!
For someone who teaches an intro level Physics course she doesn't teach like it at all. She flies through her slides doing problems not really explaining where she got answers and then moves on without answering anything. We are 3 weeks from finals and I still don't know what my grade is. Get a different professor is possible and good tutor.
Tests are only ~15 questions, so you might want to taken advantage of bonus exam review and quizzes. Quizzes are graded on participation, hw is fairly straightforward, but exams are very difficult. I don't think her lectures are as bad as ppl say...just pay attention to the practice problems she does and learn from those
just don't take physics at lsu. dr. sakr is nice, but going to her lectures is pointless. all she does is read off slides. the physics department as a whole sucks. they have to give so many bonuses because they make overly complicated tests with no partial credit. be prepared to teach yourself and get a tutor.
Every single test had tricks in each question. Tests can be complex and stressful, be prepared to study. Her work can be very confusing as she just reads off of slides not explaining some of the information very well. Everyone says the physics department is bad as a whole, and while that may be true, David Young teaches well. Watch his videos.
She's actually a really good professor and is more than willing to help, physics just isn't easy. But if I had to take it again I would definitely take it with her
Physics is hard and she doesn't do much to help. Breezes over questions in class and reads off the slides. There is a good amount of bonus opportunities. You need to study at least a week before each exam. Exams are only 15 questions and nothing is curved, the average was in the 50s for every exam. Take Young or take physics at community college…
Please do not take her guys. Physics isn't easier but she definitely doesn't make it easier.
She was an alright professor. There were some points where she didn't explain something very well, but if u go read through the book about that topic u should be fine. Physics is a hard subject regardless of who you take it with, and she was an alright professor. One of the better options in the physics department. Plus final exam curve at end.
She's lowkey not as bad as everyone is saying, but I heard dr young is way better. Lectures were alright, but not the best. Exams were easy, with 3 exams having 15 questions, and the final having 22. Hella bonus points (32 from doing practice exams+10 from in-class quizzes and even a 16 pt curve added to the final at the end). SI was a cheat code.
Physics is difficult and taking it with Sakr made it worse. She reads straight from the slides during every lecture. Attendance is not mandatory, but there are in-class quizzes graded for participation. Do the homework's and extra credit (will help your grade a lot)!
you will genuinely have to put in work to make a good grade. Complete all the homework's, but they aren't a good representation of the material you'll be tested on. Do all of the top hat quizzes and try to get them right for extra credit at the end. Get a tutor Jais Learning center is great he knows what will be on the exams
2001 is an unfortunate class, and Dr. Sakr is an unfortunate professor. Blows through lectures and does nothing besides reading from the slides. I wouldn't have received the grade I did if there wasn't a significant amount of bonus (~60 points in a 600 total point class). She is caring if you speak to her outside of class though.
she's honestly not a good teacher, she just rushes through things and meets questions with condescension. there's a lot of extra credit because failing test grades is extremely common in this class. i got a 47 on a test and still got a B+. my best advice is to go to the tutoring offered in the library
Pretty decent professor given how hard the subject is. I had trouble making a good grade even with help but using crambetter helped me a lot to pass the class so i highly recommend. gives good amount of bonus points and the final is curved
A lot of people seemed to dislike this class, but i enjoyed it. I will say that setting a study pattern/habits really helped me to get into a routine that I kept up by the end of the semester. and definitely go to class for the tophat bonus i barely read the textbook, but it was a reference for the homework (esp with links w/in the assignments)
