Very smart lady. Even if you aren't particularly interested in the anatomical structure of the brain, you will become enraptured by the release of neurotransmitters her lectures effect.
I had her for brain and behavior. She is an awesome teacher, she puts lecture notes online the beginning of the week and has online extra credit quizzes. She posts study guides for the exams and as long as you study them you'll do well
Dr. Povysheva is wonderful! She is an extremely intelligent and very approachable professor. For pro seminar, attend the presentations and do article summaries. Painfully easy, and she gives you a ton of extra credit opportunities to get an A+. Take Dr. Povysheva!
Didn't attend the majority of the lectures and didn't buy the book. Just memorize the powerpoints and DEFINITELY do the practice tests she posts. Very easy A
She was a very good prof, always willing to clarify or explain a concept when needed. The class was very easy (and I'm not skilled in science whatsoever) and also interesting at certain points. She posts all lectures online and only tests from that info, so attendance isn't 100% mandatory. She also offers easy opportunities for a few bonus points.
Nadya is a very organized professor, making the class pretty easy as long as you keep up. She posts lecture notes ahead of time and gives practice exams that basically tell you exactly whats on the test. Its easy to get extra credit through course web each week. She has an accent but isn't very hard to understand. the textbook is not required
Such a great professor! Extremely knowledgeable and it shows through her teaching. If you are interested in Neuro at all, take this class with her. All tests and material were fair. She is very kind and wants students to do well.
Nadezda is definitely a contender for my favorite professor here at Pitt. I had her for Brain and Behavior. The exams are 100% from the notes gone over in lecture. The notes are always posted on CourseWeb so if you can't make class it's not a huge deal. She will explain anything you don't understand if you are willing to ask. TAKE THIS CLASS.
Class is easy, never really attended. I will say that you should memorize her powerpoint slides a few days before the exam. Otherwise wonderful lady.
Don't get the textbook, you don't need it. Do the online quizzes!! They are purely extra credit, a bonus 6 points per exam. They boosted me from 92's to 98s each exam :). To get an A each exam, do the review questions she gives you, do the practice test, and review the past quizzes & notes. She provides plenty of helpful study materials.
I do not understand the ratings for this prof. It is a whirlwind of information and is fairly complicated for the non-science major. If you are scientifically illiterate like I am, steer clear. If you like science and have a good memory, then taking it could be good. Finally, her accent takes some practice getting used to.
Very nice and knowledgeable lady. Her lectures were packed with information and fun facts, so you might want to go to those, even though attendance is not mandatory. She does have an accent, but it's easy to get used to. I got an A, and I'm not even a biology or neuroscience major.
If you have to take a bio req for your major, take this. I made the mistake of taking foundations of bio and failed, but then I took this class and was able to pass with a B+. Dr Povysheva is caring and a wonderful professor. Her tests are fair and the material is easy to grasp if you study. I was not a bio or neuro major and I did really well.
Nadya is the best choice for Drugs and Behavior. She tells you what to know for exams, which there are three and an optional final. After topics covered, there are CourseWeb extra credit quizzes which help boost your grade, and don't affect it. UTA's were also helpful in creating review ?'s and study guides for each topic so I ended with an A+
Her tests were very reasonable and somewhat easy! Just make sure you do the practice exams that she provides. Also, she does not tolerate students who come in at the end of the semester to ask for help (grade begging after finals), but she is more than happy to help out during the semester. So make sure to see her as soon as you spot a problem!
Dr Povysheva is the best! She cares a ton about her students and she's always available to help. Her lectures are very interesting and engaging, and the tests are very fair. You'll do great if you understand what's on the slides. Take advantage of the extra credit opportunities and the study materials on Courseweb.
Very interesting subject and she made it easy to comprehend and learn! Make sure to do the extra credit quizzes and you'll be fine!
I definitely recommend Professor Povysheva. She is hilarious and her class was an easy A, especially since it was online. We only had three exams, all of which she encouraged us to use our notes on. And she gives a substantial amount of extra credit if you take the easy weekly quizzes. Shes super easy going and you dont even need to go to lecture
Dr. Povysheva was a great professor! Definitely make sure you take advantage of the extra credit quizzes each week. Super easy to access outside of class, even when everything was online.
The exams are exactly what you'd expect and she makes sure to give comprehensive reviews throughout the semester. Her grading policy, combined with the extra credit, make this a class you almost don't even need to attend. Material is very interesting too. Lectures aren't too fun to listen to online but she posts PowerPoints anyways.
Dr. Povysheva was always accessible outside of class and ready to help students. This class was completely asynchronous (besides exams), and weekly quizzes counted towards extra credit. Exams were straightforward and doable (lowest dropped). Easy A especially for non-science majors, just be sure you can identify the main takeaways of each lecture.
Your only grades come from a few exams, but theyre super easy and straightforward and come 100% from the slides she goes through in lecture. Watching the Panopto videos is better because they're more concise. There are also weekly(ish) quizzes for extra credit.
I love Dr. Povysheva. She gave so many opportunities for extra credit in the form of weekly quizzes that get added on to your exam scores. I skipped lecture though because the panopticon recordings were more concise. Overall, love this professor and definitely recommend taking her!
This class was a super easy A if you watched the lectures Dr. P gave (in person or asynchronous) and took notes. Exams were open notes and were pretty much copy&pasted from the lecture slides, and all 12 quizzes were extra credit and went on top of our final grade. Overall, the class is a great gen ed if you're looking for a GPA booster.
The best for non-science major. Class material itself is difficult for non-science major, but she gives a lot of extra credits (quizzes/practices). She is also very available, if you have any questions or concerns, send an email, she'll reply within hours.
Just take whatever course she teaches! Do what she asks, you'll pass. She is really really nice.
She is wonderful! Gives extra credits and very caring. Take her, do what she asks, you'll surely get A.
You can do this class entirely online, even though it's technically in-person. I did this because I took it as a gen-ed and it made the class very simple for me.
She's a great professor. She gives an insane amount of extra credit and takes the highest 3 grades out of 4 tests. There isn't any homework that isn't extra credit and her slides are super detailed. The tests can be hard if you don't study but everything is on the slides that she posts. I rarely went to class and still got an A. Highly recommend.
The course content can be a little difficult but as long as you pay attention in class you can do well. There isn't any homework and the quizzes are extra credit so there isn't a lot of work required. The lectures are pretty interesting.
I took Drugs and Behavior and loved it! I learned so much and the material may be tough at times but she answers emails with questions very quickly and is eager to help everyone do their best. Lots of extra credit opportunities and her slides were incredibly detailed and helpful for studying for each exam. Only four graded exams, lowest is dropped.
Easy and fun gen ed. Everything besides exams is extra credit and you only have to take 3 out of 4 exams (or if you take all 4 then the lowest grade is dropped). Lectures are somewhat interesting and the material is cool
She's so funny and her class is really interesting. Don't buy the textbook! All info you need is on the slides. Tests are open note and there's ample opportunity for extra credit. Just listen in lecture and reread slides and it's almost impossible to do poorly.
Provides most study information in lectures and/or given. The beginning of the course is mostly neurological / brain studies and then the end of the semester dives into connecting drugs that are used for treatment or affect behavior. Overall, very humorous and fun to work with it and the course is manageable to pass with completing quizzes.
Professor Nadya is a russian queen, and there is not much more that needs to be said. During my life at pitt, there was many outside variables affecting my life and academic performance overall. When I would go to Nadya's lecture, all damaging, outside factors would become trivial. I felt like it was just me and her in that lecture fr.
only halfway through the course tbh but i have a 98% and shes great
THE BEST PROFESSOR AT PITT, HANDS DOWN. Only halfway through the course, but SHE IS OUTSTANDING. One of the best options for drugs & behavior. Her lectures are extremely engaging, she gives quizzes for extra credit each week (i.e. if you get a 1.2/1.5 on the quiz, the 1.2 will only HELP you!! It gets added to your unit exams!!). AMAZING.
Very interesting class. Prof has a very heavy accent which is hard to understand, but as long as you read and learn lecture slides you'll get the content. Attendance is not mandatory or really necessary. The extra credit quizzes are really helpful for boosting the grade. The exams are not that hard, they're on canvas at home. Very doable class.
very easy class. attendance is not necessary. read slides online and you will probably be fine. A lot of extra credit quizzes to boost grade if needed. Has an accent which can be difficult to understand at times, but not a huge issue. 4 test throughout the year, no midterm or final. Very easy gen ed class highly recommend.
i cannot recommend this class enough nadya is amazing and everything is extra credit
Very interesting class! Pretty manageable and forgiving courseload.
Very good and interesting
I love her so much- I think she is my favorite teacher of all time. Her lectures are not required, but she is so funny so I would recommend going. Tests are online and quizzes/top hat are all extra credit. If you get the chance, take her class!
I love Dr. Povysheva! She makes class so interesting and funny as she tries to entertain while educating her students. Exams are pretty easy and she drops one at the end of the semester. She does use tophat questions for a participation grade, but it's not like it'll dramatically affect your grade. Definitely would recommend and take her again!
I was really nervous taking a neuroscience class, but this ended up being a super easy and enjoyable class. Attending lecture was not required because slides were posted online but I enjoyed going anyway. Tests were online and open note, but I recommend doing the unit study guides and practice tests in preparation. Good easy science gen ed.
There were 3 main exams and the final but the lowest exam score gets dropped. If you do good enough on the first 3 exams you don't have to take the final! There is tons of opportunity for extra credit if you do the little mini quizzes after she gets through a powerpoint. Also, the tests were open note most of the answers are found in the slides.
nadya is hands down the nicest professor ive ever had. all the exams were online & asynchronous and we could use our notes. there were extra credit quizzes at the end of each unit that she would add the points to our exam scores. she drops the lowest exam grade (including final). this was the easiest class I took & i recommend everyone take it
great prof! shes super nice and knows what shes talking abt. drugs and behavior was so interesting and i loved the content. unit tests are online and open note, top hat questions during class for grades, quizzes are for bonus points. absolutely loved this class and she posts her lectures if you miss a class. highly recommend!
While I liked the class content, Povysheva was just okay. She is very nice but usually reads off of her slideshows, which is where you will get all the info you need for the 3 out-of-class exams. You will want to go to class for Tophat questions. I would recommend her class, just because of her very easy grading policies!
Very sweet lady with interesting, clear lectures and easy grading. Exams are online/open note and based directly off the slideshows. Grades come from exams, weekly extra-credit quizzes, and class TopHat questions. The workload is very manageable. I'm not a science person but I liked this class a lot! It's both interesting and an easy gen ed.
Her class was super interesting and engaging. She is very funny and makes class super enjoyable. Her exams were online and open note which made it an easy A. Love her!
Class attendance was not mandatory. Anything in the notes is fair game for the exams, so there are no surprises. She posts the lecture slides on Canvas. A lot of extra credit chances.
Super easy class for non-neuro majors. Skipped final after acing first three exams (all online). Slides are very organized. Lots of supplementary material (lecture audios, study guides, review sheets, practice tests) and extra credit (quizzes, TopHat, discussions). Slight accent + soft voice, sit towards front if hard of hearing. Easy 100.
She may have an accent which can be confusing, but if you can't understand her then just read from the slides. I learned a lot from her Drugs and Behavior course, even though I am not a neuro major. Really recommend her class, don't be intimated by the STEM!
For this course, this professor did not take attendance nor did she have in-person exams. We had online quizzes that were open notes and they all were based on the content covered in her lectures and prepare you for the final (if you choose to take it). Participation is graded through TopHat questions.
She is awesome! There are LOTS of opportunities for bonus points. This was one of the easiest classes I have taken. Tests are also online and can be taken at home.
dr.povysheva is so nice, and very knowledgeable. as a psych major, i found this class insightful. the grade is three exams (optional final), but has so many opportunities for grade boosts via quizzes, tophat q's, and discussion days. at first it may be hard to grasp certain concepts, but gets easier as you go! not a stressful class at all. loved it
Prof. Povysheva is great! Always responds to email quickly. Basically a hybrid class, you really don't have to go in person cause all the tests and quizzes are online. Test questions come from the quizzes, so make sure to review them once they're graded! The material can be tough, but Nadya makes it easy.
Best Drugs & Behavior professor! 3 exams + final, worst is dropped. Online, and open for a few hours. In-class TopHat questions and quizzes for extra credit. TAs host discussions for extra credit as well. Posts extra lectures on Canvas for another source. So easy and straightforward. Def recommend!!
SHE IS SO NICE! Also so flexible with deadlines. There is so much extra credit as well. Lectures are lowkey a little bit boring but you can not go to class and still do well. She responds to emails really fast and is super understanding. Def recommend. I'm not a science-y person and still did really well.
This class was very interesting and very easy. Don't need to show up to lectures. Exams are open note and online. Easy gen-ed.
Professor Povysheva is amazing. She offers plenty of extra credit and drops the lowest exam. She pretty much makes it possible for everyone to get an A. She's quick to answer questions & and is always willing to meet to discuss issues you're having. Take her classes!!!!
Such an easy class! Participation in class and weekly quizzes are just for extra credit. Lectures not mandatory and not really necessary. Exams are all online. She even rounded up my final grade that was close at the end without me even asking!
This is the perfect gen ed. The tests are online and open note. The lecture slides are complete, concise, and clear. So you don't need to ever go to class in order to get an A. But the content is still very interesting and Nadya is a good lecturer.
Loved her class and her lectures. Though sometimes it felt as if she was trying to rupture my eardrums from how loud she played the videos she presents sometimes T-T LOL. But overall, very easy class and I learned a lot. Open note exams, and tons of extra credit opportunities.
She offered a lot of extra credit which was really nice. Your grade is based on three midterms and a final, and she drops the lowest one. It's a pretty solid option for a gen ed -- the content is interesting, and it's not too difficult to get an A
Professor Nadya was awesome. She is very nice and her class is very easy (all exams are online), but if you pay attention to the lectures and slides you will learn so many interesting things. She has a great sense of humor as well.
Take this professor.
the best professor you can take for drugs and behavior! she offers a lot of extra credit which was really nice. grade is based on three midterms and a final (drops the lowest). if i had to the option to take this class until i graduate from Pitt, i totally would. awesome, 1000000/10, highly recommended!
I went to 3 lectures the whole year and did fine. Attendance is not mandatory, a quiz each week for extra credit, 3 exams and optional final. If you choose to take final, lowest exam score dropped. ALL quizzes, exams, and finals are online! Great for gen-ed!
I absolutely loved her class this semester. She is so sweet and her tests aren't too bad either. She offers lots of extra credit. Just put in the work and you'll be fine.
By far the easiest class I've taken at Pitt. Did not show up to a single lecture after the first couple weeks. Everything is posted online, and all of the exams are online and multiple choice, the lowest of which is dropped. If that's not enough, there's also a ton of easy extra credit to hand back whatever points you may have lost.
If you want an easy A, this is the class for you. If you actually want to learn about science, I recommend you sign up for a different class. Class is designed so that it's impossible to fail. Don't bother showing up to lectures, she reads directly off her slides and spends more time on TopHat/YouTube than actually teaching.
Your grade is made up of only tests, but they are online, asynchronous, and open note so they are easy to get a good grade on. Just review the slides a few times before taking it and you'll do good. Gives lots of extra credit through tophat questions and quizzes. Some lectures are very interesting, and she is always open to questions.
gives extra credit opportunities, very knowledgeable. you will learn a lot of interesting things without the stress of exams as they are open note. great class to take alongside very demanding courses.
Pls pls pls take her. She's an absolute sweetheart. tests extremely easy. Extra credit always given. She's so excited to help people. Sends out reminders for quizzes, exams, and discussions. Quiz are always easy peasy. Studying was minimal however still do so. Amazing course
Tests are online and very simple. Very interesting lectures if ur a neuro major. Great intro class for freshmen neuro majors. Shes very kind and open to conversation if something happens to u. This class is essentially only graded on exams. Extra credits towards exam given in tophat during lecture and quizzes. Highly recommend!
had her for brain and behavior literally amazing. her exams are literally take home and do at your own; and if needed you can use your notes.
100% would recommend taking for a gen ed, she cares a lot about her students and provides lots of resources to help for success
Interesting lectures. Able to understand material despite being a non-STEM major. There is a lot of extra credit available making this course low stress.
Her first exam wasn't online, so keep that in mind for next year, but all of the rest were. Her exams were pretty fair, and she offered lots of extra credit/bonus points. The course is pretty interesting, but attendance is somewhat required due to questions from Tophat, and you can earn points. Honestly, it's a pretty easy class, and she's great!
She is who you want for either Brains and Behavior or Drugs and Behavior. Attendance is optional, but you get bonus if you go to class, 3 exams, optional final, and one gets dropped. TONS of extra credit, and her slides are super informative. I feel like I learned a lot and she is also very caring and willing to meet outside of class.
Take her for Brain and Behavior!! So much extra credit - TopHat participation points and little quizzes. First exam was in person with a one-sided cheat sheet. The rest of the exams were online. Her lectures are very informative and I enjoyed going to class because of the videos she would show, and you can tell she genuinely loves neuroscience!!
LOVE THIS CLASS! Everything is extra credit(top hat, quizzes, discussions), and she records all of her lectures, so participation isn't mandatory. She teaches well, and the class is just awesome. The material is also very interesting.
Only your exams count for grades, but quizzes, tophat, and discussion boards are all extra credit, giving you so many chances to boost your grade. She's so nice and passionate about neuro, honestly made me consider going from computer science to neuroscience because i just want to take more of her classes. take her!
Nadya was an awesome professor for NROSCI 0080. The first test is in person, but the other two are online. There's so much extra credit available (TopHats, discussion boards, quizzes) that boost your grade. Your grade is made up from the 3 exams, but the extra credit helps so much! Attendance isn't required, but is necessary to do the TopHats.
Interesting material, but she talks monotone. Basically everything is extra credit to help your exam grade. There are unit quizzes and Top Hat questions that are added to your exam. After 1st exam, the other two were online. Optional final, she would round up your grade if you asked. attendance mandatory if you want extra points.
