the worse
smart in avoiding questions. he not helpful. not sure of his answers. my advice to you to not take with him. he is totaly stupid
Clarke wants you to succeed, but chemistry is very difficult. He is always available for office hours, where he can be much more helpful, because for lecture there's too much to cover to slow down.
For a chemistry 111 class it was extremely difficult. I got an A in chemistry 090 and eventually dropped the class, made it way too difficult.
Clarke will help students a lot. The class is difficult, and Clarke doesn't make the class easier than it should be, it's just right. Most people don't get an A because the class is just really hard.
He's too smart to teach. He's better off taking that talent and doing more with his life then teaching. He's got horrible lectures and is very confusing from time to time. Yes, he wants you to succeed and is willing to help but only to a certain extent. So if your lost after he gives you help once, you can forget getting help again.
Do not take this teacher. He makes it so unnecessarily hard. His class is horrible!
He makes things so unnecessarily hard! Take Nevius instead.
He makes class way to hard. If you ask him a question he will laugh and make you look stupid. I don't recommend him.
Seems kind of flaky, like he doesn't really know what's going on. Not exactly what you want in someone that is supposed to be teaching you.
I had him for organic chem during spring/summer and it was way better than the class I failed at another school. I actually understood it with Clarke teaching. He did offer tutoring to help. Tough subject, it took me a lot of time to read and understand. Best to read before class so you can ask questions.
Highly recommend. Good teacher. Has high standards but is worth it.
I really liked Nagash. He explains things very clearly and does a lot of practice problems in class. He definately makes it very easy to understand. I highly recommend him.
CEM 090 was a breeze but CEM 111 is much more difficult. Mr. Clarke tends to get a little too personal and take things too personal. He is an intelligent person but not the most understandable. He will definitely make you feel dumb at times. He's a good guy but will probably look for another instructor for Organic CEM.
Clarke's lectures are easily understood- the more broad, abstract concepts are cleared up when he works through more specific problems. He sets the standard (esp. for labs) high. Turned in work must be high quality (or perfect). This can be frustrating, but it made me pay attention to detail and in effect- made me a better student. I recommend him.
Very good, class is VERY difficult, but he makes it as easy and fun as possible. I took him for 090 and 111 and plan to take 211 with him as well. If you're willing to work hard and ask questions (he's always available for consultation) you'll do fine. I would definitely recommend him;he has clear lectures and goes through alot of practice problems
Nice and easy, very helpful
I actually enjoyed his teaching of Chemistry!
nice guy. bad teacher. wasnt really clear and when i went for clarification he would just repeat what he just said. that didnt help me at all. went to science center and studied alot on my own. got a good grade, but no help to him.
by far the WORST teacher i have ever had. hes condescending and rude, he makes students feel like idiots in class. lecture is a complete waste of time, you're better off going home and reading the book and teaching yourself. tests are much harder than material taught in class. BS opportunities for EC. basically avoid nagash clarke at all costs.
I enjoyed him as a teacher. Only reason I got a C was because I decided to take the class in the Spring. That was my fault. His class was straight up fun and he was helpful in helping you out with hard problems. Cannot wait to take him in Organic Chemistry
He doesn't know his stuff, and he's socially awkward. He's very bad at teaching and often confuse us in the labs. He also make things unnecessarily hard, and he doesn't tell you the grading criteria, and takes off points without reasons. He treats you like a moron unless you suck up to him.
I loved his method of teaching. I was able to pass with flying colors when I had failed at another university. He answered all of my questions (I ask alot). Use your resources from the class and show up and you should be fine... Highly recommend
Mr. Clarke tries to be fun and young. He gets involved in people's lives and makes the class harder than it has to be. He added graded HW this semester and collects it irregularly. His tests involve many mechanisms and his grading can depend on whether or not he likes you. He knows chemistry but he is a researcher at heart!
Professor Clarke is the man! He makes organic chemistry fun, while remaining rigorous. I will remember his orgo 2 class for the rest of my life. He does require a student to learn the material, which is aggravating to some, but they should piss off.
I'm not claiming that Clarke doesn't know organic chemistry, but he certainly does not know how to relay the information effectively at all. He straight up reads a powerpoint that is already prepared by the textbook we used. Anybody can do that. I did not learn anything from him - had to rely on the book. Wasted my money on the class.
This is definately a hard class. You have to make it to all the classes and labs, take notes, and study hard. Mr. Clarke is there to help. You just have to communicate w him. Ultimately, he wants to see you do well. Stick it through to the end and don't give up.
Mr. Clarke is one of my favorite teachers ever! He's very funny and approachable, willing to answer questions and actually cares about his students. The class is rigorous but not impossible, and he's generous with extra credit. Lectures are good, but you will also need to study the textbook to do well. I'm taking orgo 2 from him.
He is a nice guy but not the best teacher in the world. He is helpful in class but is almost impossible to reach him out of class. I had asked him one time if I could take the test a day later because it was on the same day as my grandmother's funeral and he said i could but i could only receive up to a 75%. i had to miss a funeral to take a test
I took Mr. Clarke for Chem111 this semester and passed with over 100% . He gives tons of extra credit on his tests and quizzes. The online homework sucks, but its required by the school. The people who did pass the class were the ones that we never in study hall. Take Nagash. The class was super entertaining too. Nagash is quite the character
He is a good teacher in the classroom but almost impossible to reach outside of the class for help. If you r in a bad shape and are asking for a little grace, you will definitely not get it. he had given us some assignments in class that weren't on the syllabus and you were out of luck if you weren't there
Clarke is the man. He tries to make the class fun and is very interested in the subject matter. Read the text book and you can get through this class pretty easily.
He will read directly off the powerpoint. No need to go to lecture because he will teach you nothing that you cant teach yourself with the powerpoint.
One of the worst professor in WCC. Arrogant and has no teaching skills. It's a surprise that he is allowed to teach. He thinks he knows it all, but stumbles when students ask him questions. He then just rambles on about something else not relevant. Has no respect for student and is not interested in helping. Avoid this person at all costs.
Never ever take a class with this guy. He just reads out of a power point slide and doesn't use the board at all. If you really want to learn chemistry skip this guy. Doesn't even give examples. He never gave examples. The tests are tough. And if you take class with this guy expect the questions in the tests that your were never taught.
Never ever take any chemistry with him. Expect something that ha nothing to do with the chemistry in the class. He just reads out of the power point slides. And you get to learn everything by your self. Skip this guy if you really want to learn chemistry. Chemistry used to be my favorite subject in high school. But today I hate it like anything.
I did everything possible to try to pass this class. I went to lecture, went to lab, read my book, studied (extremely hard) and did the homework. In the middle of the semester when I was struggling I went to his office hours and tutoring, but still did not pass. He really does not care, hardly showed examples, more than half of the class dropped.
The kid who doesn't come to class is the one with the best grade in the class.
He is the best professor I have ever had in any subject. He cares about his students beyond the classroom and even went out of his way to set me up with graduate programs that would suit my interests. Study hard, and don't be intimidated by the material. Just because the class is difficult does not mean that he isn't a phenomenal instructor.
I took him for Orgo 1 and am back for Orgo 2 now. Mr. Clarke is wonderful. *Clear grading criteria *provides slides online so you can print and follow along with during lecture. *Exams are tough but doable, just have to come to class and READ the textbook. *His labs are really fun, first time in my life I've ever loved a lab!
He's pretty funny and cool, my most memorable professor at wcc for sure. Doesn't give great grades though
Cares about his students and wants them to do well. I started off doing poor and he reached out to me to come get some help. Made himself very accessible outside of class and office hours. Great guy and he tries his best to make lecture as interesting as possible. Orgo is hard af regardless so If you want to pass though you gota read the book.
Hes not a very good lecturer, reads off the slides. Honestly, you dont even have to show up to class. Just prepare for the tests with the study guides found on the blackboard on yourself. Expect lots of tests throughout the semester
He mainly used Powerpoints to teach, but sometimes used the board and simple explanations to help students understand. He loses focus a lot and I pretty much learned everything myself online and from the textbook. His tests were nothing close to what he taught us, and often times had many problems we weren't even taught to solve. Study hard.
He is very disorganized, does not use textbooks. Materials found on the blackboard are all MESSED UP!! He doesn't update his old materials, test practices and everything are labeled with the wrong chapters. VERY VERY VERY MESSY himself but takes off points on lab reports because apparently crossing 1 small mistake out is so terribly unacceptable
Really nice guy, only had him as a lab instructor so I can't speak towards his lecture abilities. Very funny and approachable, and super understanding and friendly. I plan to take more classes from him in the future.
Dont take him if you arent already a chem expert! Very hard, learned everything on my own. Says textbook not needed but it is if you dont know what you are doing. He teaches directly from powerpoints provided by the McGraw-Hill book. Just get ready to study heavy and learn on your own. Tests can take up to 2-5 hours some things not covered in lect.
Professor Clarke truly cares about his students, but you have to earn your grade. Participation definitely matters. Do not be afraid to get up and write your answer on the chalkboard because it will help you learn. Tests were difficult, but he gives you the resources to do well on them. Be very careful on your lab reports - he's a tough grader.
He will ask you to ask other classmates for help. He does not spend much yime lecturing but does go through problems repeatedly. He is a very tough grader. Be prepared to need to be perfect for a B grade.
Prepare to feel judged and looked down upon
Doesn't tell you anything about tests, just has stuff listed online that includes lots of stuff not relevant to the test, and it's up to you to know what has been covered and weed out the questions from his own practice tests. Doesn't ever lecture, just has worksheets online that you have to complete with classmates, and only lets one person ask q'
You get what you pay for at wcc
If you can't handle Nagash, you cannot handle the real world. He will test and challenge you. This is chemistry. It wasn't written just for fun. It was discovered through tons of work by the likes of Mendeleev and Curie. I encourage you to look them up. The first wrote the periodic table. The second died discovering the first radioactive elements.
Nagash Clarke is a good instructor for students who have the ability to test out of this course. Lecture is almost non existent and instructor help is sparse. When questions are asked he seems annoyed or sidesteps the answers. Tests cover material not learned in class and no reinforcement homework is assigned. Suggested study material is vague.
Be ready to get tutoring and outside help because you teach yourself a lot of the material which sucked. He is a wonderful person tho and is willing to help. He holds study sessions Tuesday and Thursdays every week.
Incredible. Best professor I've ever had. He spent his time while proctoring exams reading "Journal of Organic Chemistry Education", not playing candy crush. He worked with EVERY. SINGLE. student to make sure they learned the material fully. I learned so much. After transferring to University, the professors there were so much worse. Clarke is 100.
A lot of wether you pass or not depends on how much work you put in. Theres virtually no lectures, he brushes over the topic and tells you to do problems and then at the end he puts up the answers and doesnt explain them very often.
Mr. Clarke is pretty dope. He has a sense of humor for sure and lectures well however you must come to class every day or you're going to fall behind. Responds to emails quickly, always willing to help and let you know where you went wrong. Grades come mostly from tests so you have to be prepared. Took him again, highly recommend.
Mr. Clarke is an amazing instructor. Lectures are very fast paced and he will move on if there are no questions. IF YOU DONT ASK QUESTIONS he will continue and will not lecture over that material again. Test are difficult if you dont put more time than you think you need to (go 3-4 hours over). Lastly go to office hours and study sessions if able.
Mr. Clarke is a terrible professor if you want to learn chemistry. If you came to class expecting a teacher, prepare to be disappointed. He uses the students to answer all the problems and never goes over specific questions. The only work he assigns is busy work and he uses a fake American accent constantly which can be bothersome at times.
Clarke is awful! He doesn't teach at all. This is a level 111 class at community college and he teaches like it's a graduate class. Lectures are non-existent. He doesn't go over or show how to do conversions, stoichiometry. His practices test are nothing like his tests, and he puts organic chemistry on some of his tests.
Mr. Nagash is not a good professor. He makes it almost impossible to succeed in his class, I went to all lectures, labs, tutoring, and office hours and still cant get above a 50% on exams. His average tests scores average around 50-60%. At times I would skip half of his lecture just to learn through a tutor.
Clarke is very helpful and a great prof. You have to go to class and participate to succeed. There's no HW, but a lot of EC. The tests are challenging but to pass, study the old 100Q exams online well in advance, they're not worth points but they are a great tool. He gives short study guides, they're not helpful, but do them for EC
if you put the time in and show you care he will help you succeed
Had to take this class online due to COVID which obviously isn't ideal for chemistry. Regardless, this professor is unclear in EVERY WAY. Doubles back on what he says changes the syllabus and test dates, everything to make the semester more difficult. Worst of all he hands out ZEROS for any little mistake. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASSES!!!!!!!!!!!
Worst teacher I've ever taken in my life! He doesn't teach and nor does he answer questions, every time a student asks a question he side steps it or acts insulted. If you send him an email on a question on anything on a homework or test (after it's graded) he either never replies or answers it. I warn you to not take the class with this professor.
Mr. Clarke is entirely aloof, removed from students understanding while glazing over slides as if students already know everything. If you have questions he will often rephrase the question back to you. Tests cover material he doesn't prepare you for & no practice material with answers are provided. He was late for class & had a student teach once.
Mr. Clarke is overall a nice instructor who makes his online classes fun and enjoyable. He is also quite tough in terms of lab grading tho.
Worst teacher I have ever had and I already have a bachelors degree. He does not teach, he does not go over test material, he uses students to answer questions, he tried to incorporate organic chemistry into the first chemistry class. The only reason I did well was because of the tutoring center so shout out to them.
He is a GOOD teacher. He DOES teach. He works with you individually if you approach him. He is patient and guides you until you get it. Print out his activity sheets, take notes on the print outs, study, do the EC quizzes, and the labs. He is unfair abt the labs tho. I saw him kick out 2 different kids on lab day for BS reasons.
lectures are very confusing and hard to understand at times
God help you if your prelab isn't nearly perfect, he will straight up kick you out of lab in front of everyone, no mercy. Although I mostly enjoyed the class, Prof. Clarke has a decent sense of humor, lectures were not boring and even enjoyable if you participated. Labs(if you survived the prelab) were fun. Not an easy class, but learned a ton!
Went way out of his way to help me when I was struggling. Great guy. Would recommend to anyone who wants to take CEM111
Nice guy, a terrible lecturer. The material on the tests is unclear, your grade is only based on tests. Topics are only briefly covered and then he gives you tough practice problems only to have a student go over them. I asked for help and he walked away from me, would NOT recommend if you struggle with chem. Practice tests cover FEW test subjects.
Every single time I or my classmates tried to ask questions especially if we didn't understand, he would say "We'll go over it after everyone is finished." or he would literally just walk away from us. Almost every single time, he never ended up explaining the questions. Practice tests he would say "are a trap" and later told us to use old exams.
He knows the subject and teaches it quite well, was as lenient as you can be for multiple choice tests. CEM111 is a material-heavy class, so you will need to write down and go over everything regardless.
I took organic chem with prof. Clarke last spring. I loved it and the way he taught the class. As a student who struggled in Gen Chem and was slightly better in Gen Chem2, I excelled in orgo thanks to prof Clarke. Just pay attention, read the textbook, do practice problems :)
Tries hard but just isn't that great at teaching. I attended every lecture and got very little out of them. He regurgitates textbooks without explaining things, which is needed in Organic Chemistry. I had to self-study like crazy. Lots of practice problems in class but doesn't explain the "why". Lenient grader and does give extra cr.
Nice guy, but he can't teach. You have to teach everything yourself. He doesn't use textbooks, lecture slides, or anything just practice problems but i think at least lecture slides are needed in orgo. for such a tough subject you need a professor who can explain each problem step by step and he doesn't do that.
Orgo 1 shouldn't be taught this way. The professor lacks PowerPoint slides and clear explanations, making most of the material hard to follow. Instructions on what to expect on exams are unclear, the textbook covers more than his lectures, leaving you unsure of what to study, I do not recommend him if you want to understand the subject better.
He's a nice guy, but I don't recommend him at all if you want to actually learn the subject.
Take Orgo 1 with another professor who has clear and understandable teaching methods.
If you want to learn something from this class, read the textbook. His lectures are not helpful for learning content, only practicing barely-explained ideas. Tests match the difficulty of the textbook, not lectures. I had to study on my own like crazy. Take another professor for organic chemistry so you can avoid being your own teacher.
Took this course after dropping Chem 210 at Umich. This was a summer class so it was fast-paced as it squished everything in a few weeks. However, Prof. Clarke did a fantastic job explaining the important parts of this course. His class notes were very straightforward, and I learned so much using the supplemental textbook! Best orgo prof I have had
I felt like his teaching was OK, but there weren't many grades, and he made missing a class bad for more than just yourself.
I wasn't a fan of his approach. He's nice, but the lectures were hard to follow and left me more confused. Exams are half multiple choice + response. He also tends to make important announcements last minute, which I personally don't like—I prefer more structure. Be ready to teach yourself most of the material. Listen to the reviews.
He can't teach and idk why we pay when we have to teach ourselves. Run away if u see this guy as ur lecturer
I wish I had listened to the reviews. This guy teaches nothing and expects u to know everything on the exam also he's very rude when u ask for help. He don't emphasize on anything my goodness how he got the job that's all I wonder
I really wish I could give Dr. N a good review. He's a great guy, and very fun to talk to about stuff aside from chem. I am a straight A student and because he doesn't teach much in his lectures, im having to teach myself and pray for a C, as is the whole class. His lectures are more like TA practice sessions. Also no partial credit on some exams:(
He c doesn't teach well but he's a nice guy also he's a harsh grader and takes points off easily on labs. I wouldn't recommend this guy at all and he's not worth to be a professor for chem and he should reconsider something else bcz he simply can't emphasize and teaching needs lots of explanation which he lacks and talks about vacation foods etc
this class was self-taught. i paid $1000 to teach myself orgo, this is not what i signed up for and i am very dissapointed. Dr. clarke doesn't lecture. class periods are no different from TA sessions, why did I pay for this?!
I had Dr. Clarke for lab. Not sure about lecture, but he was awesome for us. He was super understanding and gave us clear criteria. I got 20/20s on all my labs except for one. He offered help if you needed it and even offered up hours for our class when he heard that our lecture professor wasn't great. 100% would take again. Just do pre labs.
