She doesn't explain material very well. What's worse, is that she cannot seem to answer your questions. Her tests are straight forward for the most part, although some questions are really unclear. You can get a good mark in this class.
She is really easy going and seems to answer all the questions very well. She is a real good teacher and understands your problem and very accomodating.
very helpful
very great and extremely resourcefull.
Very approachable, pleasurable and kind teacher. Sometimes there was a disconnect between her teachings and the textbook readings, but since she has a phD no doubt she can offer insights that the textbook didn't have. Overall a great professor for this introductory biology course. I am now a medical student in Ontario.
She was fair teacher and very helpful and wanted everyone to learn and understand everything
She was my Bio -I prof. She is very nice and easy going and helpful prof. She is NO # 1. I give you 10 out of 10. Thanks (Yours truly, Aman)
She is good professor and She very helpful.
I learned and Enjoyed in your class. I would take more classes in future.
Dr. Nagina is extremely helpful and makes the class very interesting.
Nagina is such a sweet, nice teacher and she's always understanding with any extensions. Definitely one of the great teachers at Ryerson
Prof. Nagina's ability to connect with her students and her talent at teaching simple concepts, as well as more advanced topics, are both truly superior. She's amazing, I highly recommend her!
Prof. Nagina's ability to connect with her students and her talent at teaching simple concepts, as well as more advanced topics, are both truly superior. She's amazing, I highly recommend her! -Manar Wagih
Hi this is Majed abualhaija. i took Biology 143 with Dr Naigna she is the best prof at ryerson . she is very helpful and her lectures notes clear you all should try this poof she is numbr 1i love you dr nagina and i am really excited to take bio 2 in the spring with you .your number 1 and you always will be ...
I thought Prof. Parmar was an amazing teacher that could truly explain the course material in ways that I could understand. I truly appreciated how she tied in some stories with respect to her research experience and found that it added a great touch to the course content (which I think she did an excellent job in explaining, too!).
Fair, intelligent and helpful lady. Really enjoyed having her as a professor. Her tests for this course are hard though and expect you to know the material well. The midterm consisted of multiple choice, short answers and acronyms (she gives you an acronym and you say what it is). Class average was 62.
She really is hard to understand. The tests setup are confusing and the marking scheme is difficult. This class really makes you work for a grade you probably wont get. She is timely in responding to emails but the class is extremely hard to navigate on Blackboard. BLG699 is not a bird course, I thought it was and I am struggling to get a B.
SHE WAS VERY CONFUSING AND TEST WERE VERY HARD. TOUGH COURSE AND PROF...I WOULD NOT TAKE HER COURSES AGAIN
i took bog 699 (social factors in drug development) with her, suffice it to say there were practically NO social factors discussed. all we learned was drug development... as if i took this course to learn that -_- got a really good mark though, you have to attend classes for participation and tests are fair
Great Course and Instructor. Learned a lot. Recommended.
I took this course in 2014 Fall to fulfill my upper liberal course requirements and coming from public health program, the material was familiar enough for me. The weekly writing assignment feels like attendance mark however be wary of midterm & final exam because it won't be easy. The exams expect you to spell out a lot of acronyms!!!
Enthusiastic, charming and very helpful.
Professor Nagina Parmar is an exceptional professor who truly cares about the success of her students. She provides all the necessary tools and information to perform well within her class. Her evaluations are very fair- no curveballs. I would highly recommend her.
I have had Professor Parmar for my Biology I and Microbiology courses. She is a wonderful teacher. She cares about her student and their success. I really enjoyed these two courses and I learned a lot from them. She makes the concepts simple to understand, and is very easy to approach. She is very passionate about teaching and very helpful.
She a biology class easy to understand and fun to go to. She is a fair marker, and wants respect from her students. If you want to learn, you will enjoy her as a professor and her class. Her powerpoint slides are very specific - you don't need to purchase the text.
She really tried her best to keep us engaged during lectures through participation and concise slide presentations. Going to class allowed for easy completion marks for article reflections. Group presentations were lenient. Midterm and final were quite thorough and specific, so ensure you are prepared!
When you asked questions in class, (most of the time) she wouldn't answer them properly. Doesn't always respond to her emails. Never bring your phone to class. Must come to class to get the participation marks (worth 10%).
Very knowledgeable professor. She is also very nice and cares about her students. Her midterm was quite easy but don't be fooled. The questions are very specific so study everything she refers to in class. But the only problem is that she assigns a long individual essay that is to be written at PhD level with an unreasonable deadline. Start early!!
Nagina is very friendly and approachable. Her lectures are straightforward and slides are really helpful. Every class a reading exercise was completed, but was easy. No textbook was required, her slides cover materials
Nagina is a very nice lady and an amazing prof. She is very clear and is a fairly easy grader. I took really good, clear descriptive notes and got a 90 in her class by just doing that. Her tests can be tricky so make sure you copy everything she says in class. She is very fair and does care about her students. Respect her and shell respect you back
Doctor Parmer is by far one of the best teachers I've ever had in my schooling history. Count your self lucky if your blessed enough to have her. She has a very sweet personality and is very supportive to your learning needs. She makes the class environment easy to participate in. She marks fairly and also the exams won't be a surprise as well.
Only reads off the slides and the slides are very unclear as in they do not form coherent thoughts sometimes. Tests on material not even covered in the class, you're supposed to read the whole textbook on your own as well as come to class and know the extra material taught in the form of videos and student presentations.
She is very supportive, wants her student to do well and always feel concern when her class average is B. Class attendance is as good as one mark. She prefers class average of at least A-. Gives detail of semester expectations at the begin of the class. The course is very informative on the process of drug discovery to approval. Awesome A
One of the best professor at Ryerson. Really does care about students.
Dr. Parmar is a great professor who really puts in the effort to teach her students & is always accessible. She explains the material well & going to class really helps reinforce the content. Her zoology class has a lot of opportunities to get a good grade, including 2 midterms, online smart learn, a lab & extra credits. 10/10 recommend the course
The instructor teaches from her heart and is supportive, and respects students. I am very pleased that I have taken BLG699 because I earned valuable learning experience.
Would not recommend her class. Tests had content that hadn't been taught yet and contained information told wasn't going to be on it. Often skips over slides because she forgets where you are and when you go to correct her she says you can go back and read it yourself.
She likes to pick on certain students, and the exam was way too specific. Too much work and stress for a liberal study
I truly don't understand why people give her bad reviews. As someone who doesn't pay a whole lot of attention in class, literally all of her question were straight from her notes. It really was not that hard. She is a very forgiving marker in her assignments and provides great feedback. Its university, classes aren't meant to be easy.
She's one of the few professors that actually seems to enjoy teaching and is actually interested in the course material. Lectures are easy to follow. The assignments had clear marking guidelines. The midterm and exam were fair and as long as you went to class you'd have gotten at least a B. Overall a great professor.
Dr. Parmar is great. She's really caring and does her best to make sure all her students were following along. She was also super open to comments and opinions from her students which is really appreciated as it shows she wants to learn along with us.
GREAT PROF, knows what she's talking about. very enthusiastic about what she is teaching Not the greatest lecturer, but her class is enjoyable. Good to note that some questions you ask may be lost in translation and answered incorrectly. YOU HAVE TO GO TO CLASS, PARTICIPATION MARKS (Weekly Articles)
Dr. Parmar is very knowledgeable and passionate about what she teaches. Do the work, follow instructions, show up to class and you're pretty much guaranteed an A. I found her lecture materials very interesting as well and would definitely recommend this course.
She knows her stuff and is very nice, but she's confusing. She words things in such a way that she could mean A or she could mean B, or something else entirely. And that's both in class and on the tests. Half of our class was confused. There are weekly reflections to write, a midterm, a final, a group project, case studies, & an individual project.
Very knowledgeable. She says things and she goes on and on but hasn't actually said anything or contradicts herself. We would ask Q's & I'm not sure if she didn't understand or just wasn't listening because she'd go on about something else. Plus, she would make us do an exam, then have a lecture AND expect a written reflection in the same class
Hasn't updated lecture slides since 2014. Nice lady, enthusiastic about the topic, and definitely has experince in drug development, but she sometimes uses articles from non-reputable websites for lectures and I found her confusing. Not great at explaining things.
Her teaching style made things engaging and easy to grasp the material. Comments made here are not true reflections of what Dr. Parmar personality is as I strongly disagree with them.
Highly recommend this class to for an easy A. Dr. Parmar is clear about assignment requirements and if you fulfill rubric criteria you'll do well. Tests are harder - but she gives you test Qs via Kahoot in class. Lectures were long, occasionally bland and confusing to follow, but if you attend she'll set you up for a good grade.
Dr. Parmar is very passionate about what she teaches, and cares about her students. Show up to lecture, pay attention, and you will receive a very good mark. Tests, assignments, and group project were all very easy. Dr. Parmar showed relevant articles and videos that made the class material easy to understand and engaging. Loved this class!
Nagina was an overall caring and decent prof. I wouldn't say she was above average though. Her class was really easy but asking her questions is frustrating - she doesn't listen! She also seems to rush marking without giving appropriate feedback. It's an easy course but idk how this prof has a phD (like many other profs at Rye).
Dr. Parmar is very nice and wants her students to do well in her class. She replies emails very quick. If you have questions, please ask her. Her exams are easy if you attend lecture and read the assigned articles. This course is very interesting. There are few assignments, just make sure you start earlier. Her marking is very fair. Love this class
Interesting course and a lot of topics can be tied to real life such as the pandemic going on right now. A lot of evaluations for an upper liberal with 2 tests, group project, individ assignment, weekly assignments. She also gives bonus marks. Just study from the slides for her tests. She marks fairly easy and is nice and approachable. Recommend.
Dr. Parmar is one of the most genuine professors in FoS. Shes very approachable and does her best to ensure the students fully understand the content. Her lectures are highly engaging and she gives multiple opportunities to get a good grade through multiple interesting assignments. Also very friendly and takes the time to get to know her students
Dr. Parmar is a very nice professor and she cares a lot about her students. This UL is annoying though with 5 assignments and a midterm. She marks fair but the rubrics are vague. She has lots of opportunities for bonus marks so thats good. If youre looking for an easy A+ this class isnt it as it requires a lot of commitment
Dr. Parmar is a good professor and cares about her students. I found it frustrating that all assignments were basically due the same day, or within the same week. I also found it difficult to get in touch with her at times. I did well in the course and enjoyed the content but this class did frustrate me.
Professor Parmar is an amazing teacher. I have learned so much through all her learning activities. She is always open to feedback and provides drop-in sessions for you to ask questions. I am always engaged during each lecture, and I look forward to class!!
Dr. Parma was such a great professor. She was very understanding of everyone's work life balance and made sure that the lecture content and tests were accessible to everyone. I would 100% take another class with her if she taught it and it fit my schedule. 10/10 would recommend.
Dr. Parmar is a fantastic professor. She is so knowledgeable and her lectures are structured in a way that helps you learn the content but keeps you interested at the same time. The condensed course is stressful, but it's what you sign up for - trying to do a whole course in 6 weeks. I would absolutely recommend this course.
Dr. Parmar is a great professor, she's very kind and wants you to succeed. She trys to make class fun and participation definitely helps. She can take a while to respond to emails, but given the number of students she usually has this is totally understandable. Definitely a great professor to have.
Wow! Dr. Parmar is one of the best professors Ive had in all my four years at Ryerson. This is the first biology course I had ever taken as Im in business management and she made the course so enjoyable and easy to understand! She took time to explain the information, made the class fun and was truly so sweet! Highly recommend her as a professor.
Overall great teacher that listens to student feedback. Provides opportunities to attain bonus marks, and evaluations are also straight forward too (everything is straight from her slides and other resources she provides). Only problem I really had was getting lost in her powerpoints, but other than that Dr. Parmar was incredibly kind and great.
Dr. Parmar is truly incredible. She is understanding and empathetic towards her students and keeps things interesting. Her knowledge of social factors in drug development is vast. My only criticism is that many of the assignments are due around the same time towards the end of the semester which can make the course a little stressful. I recommend.
Prof. Parmar really knows her stuff about the course material and is enthusiastic when teaching. The course material isn't too difficult to understand. The hard and frustrating part of the course is the multiple platforms you need to participate on in order to get a decent participation grade. It's an excessive commitment for an elective course.
Dr. Parmar is the best professor and she cares about her students' success and wellbeing. Her lectures are long but she did a great job at engaging the students into the lesson!
Prof Parmar wasn't invested in doing her job at all. All of her slides were made for her, during lectures she would read verbatim from the textbook, and her quizzes are obviously not made by her because even she doesn't know what content they cover. Once she said only some parts of a chapter would be quizzed, but then included other parts too.
very disorganized made us pay for a website saying our quizzes and labs would be on there but they never were (only for a few lab simulations that weren't graded) Her lectures were her repeating what the slides said and you'd have to read the textbook either way cause she doesn't teach everything took forever to respond to emails Switch if u can
be sure to put in the extra work on labs and lectures in order to get a good mark. Most of the quizzes are straight from the slides given from the lecture and shes really understanding towards due dates. High recommend her!!:)
I loved this class. It was fun and Inclusive while being online. I found the quizzes straight forward and fair. She is a very sweet lady, everything you need is on D2L (organized). The kahoots actually do help to prep. Study, review, you will do well. The only thing that kind of sucked was paying for the lab simulation, but you do what u gotta do.
She is a very good prof. if you know knowledge of this topic/industry please take her as she will teach you the way is a very easy, fun and understandable method.
Overall, I think Dr. Parmar presents the material in a way that anyone can understand. The material of the course is pretty dry as it repeats alot of information from previous years. Some of the material could have been presented differently as reading from the slides can make material more boring. She really does care about student success
This professor was the most laziest professor I have taken in all of my University degree. She expects you to learn by yourself through reading a textbook. Her recorded lectures are her reading off of a PowerPoint with vague points that do not show up on practice quizzes. She does not even bother to show up to the synchronous meetings.
Professor Parmar is one of my fave profs I’ve ever had. The assignments weren’t hard but they were all due at the end of the semester which was a bit stressful. I attended her live lectures and she presents the material in a way that’s easy to understand. She constantly engages you by asking questions which enhanced my learning. I loved her!
I really like Dr Parmar as the course is organized very well with clear instructions. She adds recent research articles to each lectures She goes out of her way to help students. Before the mid terms she organized review sessions on the weekends and weekday. She is very accommodating and provide extensions if needed. Very caring professor!
Dr. Parmar is a very sweet and caring professor. She was always willing to help and guide us with study sessions outside of class which really helped me. The slides were a bit useless so reading the textbook would be more beneficial for your learning. I was able to learn the material on my own. Overall, not a bad professor.
You'll be teaching yourself in this class
Yet another case of somebody who is brilliant and highly knowledgable in their field, but lacks the ability to pass her great knowledge onto others. Content itself is pretty dry. No fault of her own. Maybe better in person! One thing I don't get: she doesn't flat out say how many questions are on an exam. Not sure what she gained from that.
Dr. Parmar was definitely very knowledgable and I believe cared for her students. The course itself has so much content and you really have to do all the readings to get a good grade. It would be a lot better if it was her who hosted the lectures instead of her TAs though, as we barely saw her. A decent course experience overall!
Nagina isn't an amazing prof. She doesn't guide/attend synchronous lectures, recorded lectures are dry and the readings are extensive for such a comprehensive course. It feels as though she barely cares about her students considering how hard it is to contact her. All her tests are unoriginal direct copies from the textbook
Honestly amazing prof. I guarantee these "bad reviews" are just students who thought this biology course would be a breeze or an easy bird course. Come to her class, participates, you will get an A-.
Great course! A bit too much work for an upper liberal... overall she is flexible with due dates and marks reasonably well. She is very passionate and has good knowledge. Participation matters (10%), being active in class, on Twitter and on discussion posts. This course definitely requires some work. The exams were easy and from practice questions!
it's very hard to understand professor parmar when she teaches and she jumps from concept to concept.
One thing about this prof is that she DOES NOT LISTEN to your question. Many times I have asked for clarification in the class or participated in discussion and she seems to not even have listened. Also doesn't explain why she takes marks off... I got a good grade but she is very annoying to deal with.
The school is really making it hard for students It makes sense the quiz is an open book, the difficulty of this class is above the roof considering there's other 4-5 other mandatory subjects. Oh by the way, the final exam is 50%, good luck. (Each week: 3-4 powerpoint: 50+ slides each)
Expecting the students to absorb all these information to pass the course is insane. Please check on the materials and ask yourself if you're able to balance everything
Did not listen to concerns, not engaging, and passive aggressive. Course assistance was minimal. Encouraged to access all course content.
Could I even rate a professor I rarely see? In her pre-recorded slides she just reads off what's on the powerpoint and in the actual lecture the only one who talks is the TA. Lectures are basically pointless because all they do is give you polls to answer and they don't even go in depth on why it's the correct answer. Just read the textbook atp
Some of my peers have rated this professor very low as they don't even know her. They don't attend her in person classes. Very responsive, caring, empathetic and approachable prof. Easy to get grades if you are showing up and complete all the quizzes. Also get bonus for attendance and participation.
she doesn't listen to your questions, will copy/paste the same thing you asked for help on and not answer your questions. SO MUCH WORK for a course. Course content was pretty heavy and boring. Exam questions are so unclear and confusing.
Mandatory online classes and contribution actively during the class and group activities are vital. interesting topics would explore through the course.
~60q quiz almost every week, heavy weekly content, class slides/lectures overall unhelpful. Organization of the course was frustrating, essentially had to teach it to myself using the mandatory online resource (~$70). Might work somewhere else but not geared to nursing imo, couldn't manage the course load. Felt like an asynch self-directed course.
Do not see the point of having this teacher. The weekly ppts and videos are not helpful for doing the quizzes. It is passive self-teaching by reading the textbook, like for real she taught us NOTHING... I went to her classes each week for the attending bouns which by the end I don't even know if I really get it (it's not posted on D2L).
Decent prof! She's nice but she's difficult to reach outside of the classroom. She doesn't seem to listen to questions but she has a good attitude and good intentions. The exams were difficult but the assignment and group project were marked easily. There's a lot of homework though (group assignments and discussion posts). Overall not too hard.
Nagina gives thoughtless lectures and her slides are extremely low-effort. She tries to uphold a self-contrived image of a legitimate professor by excessively scrutinizing written assignments. Her writing is poor, her textbook-regurgitated lectures are horribly paraphrased and convolute what should be palpable content. Avoid at all costs.
The professor is wonderful, incredibly kind, and fun to listen to. The group assignments was lot of fun. But the course is too dense (it requires too much to keep up with just for 10% participation marks)
Genuinely terrible. The prof taught us NOTHING, and the lectures were the TA giving us practice questions without even reviewing the content. There were 7 quizzes that were all open-book, but we had to purchase a mandatory $70 textbook. The exam was VERY difficult and unfair considering how poorly the content was delivered. AVOID at all costs.
Really enjoyed the course material. Weekly participation is very important. The professor replied quickly to any inquiries and always answered any questions in the class. Used class discussions and group work to help students understand important topics (ones appearing on tests). Lecture slides were simple to understand and gave enough detail.
the sweetest lady but not a good prof. 50-70 questions on online quizzes. half of the questions are nowhere on the slides. lectures were prerecorded but it was required to come to class bc of in-class activities. better off just teaching yourself from the textbook.
Easy course material since most of the quiz answers could be searched up online, but does not teach well. Expects students to go through her prerecorded lectures on their own time & come to class for "review". Kind person, not a good professor. Her lectures/slides don't prep you properly for the quizzes.
Expected us to not only show up for two hours of in person lecture, but do one hour of virtual lecture plus 30-40 page textbook readings every week. Her virtual lectures were unorganized and she seems unprepared. Half the time it seemed like she was seeing the slides for the first time herself. The final exam will definitely hurt your grade.
Mandatory online textbook had to be read weekly prior to lectures. Quizzes on textbook online platform were not made by her. There was NOT enough time to do quizzes, resulting in lower grades. Weekly group participation, 2 midterms, no final. She's sweet and prioritizes your success but sometimes won't listen to you. Decent core elective to take.
Dr. Parmar is an amazing professor who is very passionate about what she teaches! I had an amazing time with her as she made the lectures very fun and interactive, and always addressed student concerns. If you put your best effort in doing all the assignments and discussion posts, you will surely get a good mark! Exams were straightforward as well!
Amazing professor, was excited to come to class and made lectures extremely interesting. Was also accessible via email and was extremely helpful.
There is a lot of material to cover, but with consistency throughout the semester, you can keep up. You get back what you put into the course, so if you put in the effort you'll get a good result. The flipped lecture format centers on in-class discussions that really help to lock in the information you studied at home. Very interesting material.
Dr. Parmar is a welcoming professor. I am a mature student so it was a little harder to navigate, but she was always available to talk and help. Dr. Parmar also responds to emails (which is a huge plus). Great experience, she is calm and collected, and would reduce my stress level. Definitely would take another class with her.
the format of this course is very disorganized and lazy. 1. prerecorded videos that we watch on our own and in-person lectures are vague reviews. 2. a lot of in-class activities which would be appreciated if she put in more effort for us to learn the actual lecture material. 3. she presented a video that had underlying islamophobic messages.
Other reviews are exaggerated she's not a 1star prof. She cares about students, removed paid platform when student reached out, and final exam matched lecture content with cheat sheets. Lectures reinforced material through activities. She's kind and fair, but put in effort to succeed if you think the course is messy you lack organization skills
She is such a sweet and caring prof! Her quizzes are easy, the group assignment was easy and she really makes an effort into being there and explaining stuff to her students! i would def recommend taking this course with her
The professor is helpful and the course content is engaging, but the workload is heavy. Staying on top of participation and group assignments is crucial. Utilizing Unstuck study alongside the textbook can make studying more efficient.
nice person but poorly organised course and bad at teaching. she wants you to spend one hour watching videos she recorded years ago and then she yaps for two hour in person. should be fully online or at least synchronous to save everybody's time. tests are pretty fair though.
Very kind person, but very unorganized course structure and teaching method. I often had to put in extra effort to follow along. However, if you do so (i.e., attend all lectures, participate consistently, watch all lecture recordings), she will give you the marks!
Best prof evaa!!!
Amazing course! Dr. Parmar makes Medical Microbiology super engaging and explains concepts in a way that's easy to understand and apply. The material is directly relevant to real-world healthcare and clinical work. One of the most useful and practical classes I've taken!
Dr. Parmar is a very kind person and a great professor. The assessments were easy, attendance is part of the grade, and in-class time is a Q&A session + PollEverywhere to reinforce content, showing that she truly cares about her students' success. Make notes of in-class discussions for the exam. I would recommend this course as a core elective!
Course is bare work. Prerecords lecture,ur supposed 2 watch b4 hand (just read the texbook, don't watch except for studies she adds) wastes ur time irl -- attendance (9 out of 11). Wish she taught in class.Take pics of inperson ?s, & Kahoot ?s some of those exct ?s r on the midterms & final. some Midterm?s also seen on final. weekly disc take 2 long
I absolutely loved having Dr. Parmar as a professor! She is extremely organized and understanding. She explains concepts very well and provides helpful assessments. Her quizzes and tests are fair!
I was worried about my GPA but this professor made everything a breeze.
Dr. Parmar is AMAZING!! One of the kindest and most genuine profs I've ever had. She actually cares about her students and goes out of her way to support us. Super approachable, easy to talk to, and always encouraging. She explains concepts clearly and makes class feel less stressful. She really wants her students to succeed, and it shows.
Dr. Nagina is one of the most compassionate and fair professors I've had. She genuinely cares about her students and shows it through her support and understanding. Her expectations are clear, and she encourages growth while still being approachable and kind. If you're willing to put in the effort, you'll thrive in her class.
Really considerate and her lectures were very engaging and hands on!! She genuinely cares for her students and wants them to learn. I wish her the best. Highly worth taking her class
Dr. Parmar is an excellent professor! She explains complex material clearly and makes lectures engaging with real-world examples. Very approachable and supportive, always willing to answer questions. I learned a lot and truly enjoyed her class.
Dr. Parmar is a very nice professor that cares about her students. She was also very lenient with the assignment grading and would find opportunities to reward bonus marks.
The course itself wasn't hard. 4.33 is doable if you put in the work. She's not the most charismatic prof at TMU, but she was nice.
