Dr. Hatab is a great chemistry professor. Shes is super nice and good at helping in her office hours. She speeds through lecture. you will fall behind if you don't show up to lecture. if you go to all of the lectures and study hard, you will do well in her exams
Dr. Hatab was easily one of the best profs I had at UTK. She cares about her students and wants you to succeed. To be successful in her class I would recommend attending lecture, completing all HW, going to office hours, and if you do not understand something, ask her. She is more than willing to help. Also, for her exams, I just did her review.
fantastic teacher and cares about her students. Her exams r more challenging than the other chemistry teachers but If u GO TO HER OFFICE HOURS u will do well. upside to the hard exams is the final is so easy and her avgs 4 final are higher than the other chem teachers. gives much partial credit on exams &bonus! write something evn if u don't know
Dr. Hatab is the BEST chemistry professor. Her exams are challenging but she will prepare you very well and it will be VERY clear what you need to know. Go to her office hours she loves to help!!!! Sweetest professor and genuinely cares.
Of all the chemistry professors, Dr. Hatab is your best bet! Her lectures can be confusing, but she gives lots of example problems / worksheets before the test so you're prepared. You definitely have to put in the work to get a good grade, but she really cares about her students and is always wanting to help you!
this class is difficult but totally doable. dr. hatab is one of the kindest people i have ever met, so ask her for help if you are confused. the lectures move quick, but if you pay attention, do the hw on time, go to lab, and ask her for help, you will do totally fine. if you dont mind a little hard work, this class is really great!
Dr. Hatab was a very nice lady, but overall this class was beyond challenging for me. I attended all lectures and labs and met with my TA multiple times and the exams were still extremely challenging. The way the tests were written was so different from the way all the reviews were.
Dr. Hatab is the best chem professor at UT. She is accessible outside of class and genuinely wants to help. She gives reviews and practice exams that really help you prep for the exams. She wants her students to succeed and is so caring/willing to work with you. The exams are very doable if you study and go to her office often. I will miss her!!!
Dr. Hatab is the best Chem professor! She cares about her students and is always willing to help in office hours. She is very clear about what information will be on tests, and she gives plenty of resources to help her students prepare.
GPA killer. Thats it.
She is the best chemistry professor you could ask for at UTK. She is so patient with her students, and she is always more than willing to help anytime. You just have to put in the work to do well in the class. If you do the work and ask for help, you will be just fine.
Want to get help to pass labs? Do not go to her, she acts like you are an inconvenience and tell you to read her lab manual. Basically a more guess and hope it works kind of professor.
Dr. Hatab made chemistry an absolute nightmare. She acts like she is available to help students, but will not give actual assistance as needed. Pop quizzes on material covered that day in lecture, labs are an ridiculously hard, time consuming, and give no actual help to the actual class. The chemistry department at this University is a joke.
This class is def a challenge. It feels very unorganized, but this class is doable if you try. Lectures are confusing and fast paced, but the online homework, discussion classes, and SI sessions help to bring everything into perspective. If you skip labs or lecture or discussion, you will not pass! She offers a lot of help, you just have to take it
Dr. Hatab gives lots of opportunities for help and tutoring; take advantage of that. She goes pretty fast in lecture, but there is a lot of material for her to cover. I disagree with people who say she is hard to understand. Make sure you go to lab and most lectures. There are occasional clicker questions, but you can get away with missing some.
Dr. Hatab is a great professor. She always wants to help and will make sure that you make the grade that you are aiming for as long as you take advantage of her office hours. She is very nice! I would definitely take her again.
Chemistry is hard no matter who you take, but Dr. Hatab makes it as easy as it could be. Her lectures can be boring but stick with it because they'll teach you everything that will show up on exams. She and her TAs are available almost always to help. She gives plenty of study materials, as long as you understand them you can pass the tests easily.
Very difficult grading scale, that is not understandable. Took online and it was very difficult- lectures were harder to understand. If you want to pass, make sure you use your resources and ask for help often.
She is kind and cares about her students. but lectures move veryyy fast and are nearly impossible to keep up with. HW has lots of Q's but is similar to the quizzes, not enough time given for quizzes or tests. past exams are the best way to study for tests. GO TO SI!! Even if you're not struggling yet!! any grade above a C+ you will have to work 4
This class is lecture heavy, and I had to use some outside sources to understand some of the material; however, Dr. Hatab really cares about her students and their grades and tried to help us. As long as you pay attention, take notes, read over those notes, participate in the clicker questions, and do your homework you'll be fine.
Dr. Hatab was understanding if you reached out to her. She was helpful and clear about her expectations. I went to almost all of the SI and review sessions. They helped a lot. This is a hard class, but any chem class will be. She curved some and gave us extra credit opportunities. I wish I could take her again for CHEM 130.
Dr. Hatab is so sweet. You can tell she really cares about her students. Chem 120 is not an easy class, but she does everything possible to make it as straightforward and simple as possible. She is very willing to help and always has office hours open. Lots of EC opportunities on exams and before to buffer grades. Very clear about what is on exams
The exams are so difficult but hatab herself seems nice.
Taking lecture notes for Dr. Hatab's classes didn't help me whatsoever. Her lectures were stressful and difficult to learn from. I do appreciate all of the extra credit opportunities, because the tests were ridiculously difficult. This course took 20+ hours per week of studying and work outside of class to maintain a decent grade.
Dr. Hatab is so sweet and nice. You can tell she cares so much for her students and she truly wants them to do well. Chemistry is just a difficult subject no matter who you take, but she gives out a lot of extra credit to help your grade. Her exams are very difficult, but they make the departmental final look easy.
Dr. Hatab is extremely sweet but you need to be aware that you need to work hard from the very beginning. This class is NOT easy, and the majority of your classmates will not pass. Take advantage of EC opportunities and go to her office if you need help! She is very caring and wants you to succeed. The second you don't understand, seek help.
I absolutely loved Professor Hatab, she was always so sweet and nice. She also really wants her students to succeed, so if you ever have a question you can go to her and she will help you. She also curves her tests at the end of the semester and gives extra credit. However, you can not turn in assignments late so make sure to do them on time.
Overall lab professor for intro chemistry courses. I never saw her in the lab, but she was very quick to respond to emails and even opened up a few online quizzes I had forgotten to take. She was approachable and pretty understanding.
Dr. Hatab is amazing! My friends and I love her so much. Shes incredibly detailed and gives us plenty of resources. She never fails to help us out and is super kind.
I absolutely adore Dr. Hatab! Definitely a difficult class but she knows this & her lectures are super thorough, go to them. She gave TONS of review material, & if you do the workshops and practice exams you'll be completely prepared. She was always willing to help outside class hours. Stay on top of it, go to SI, and take advantage of her reviews.
Dr. Hatab is PHENOMENAL in the way she teaches- clear lectures, extra credit, and super accessible. Chemistry is HARD and you WILL have to put in the work to do good. Im not super good at math or chem, but Hatab ways to see you succeed. The exam content is all there, just go to SI, stufy workshops and exam reviews and you will be good! I love her!
I enjoyed Dr. Hatab for the most part. In my opinion I felt that her lectures were just introductions to the topics then I would have to self teach myself the content by watching the SI and workshop videos. If you put in the time and effort getting a B or higher in this class is very doable. I mainly struggled with the math aspect of this course.
Hatab is really sweet but her exams are a no. Worst exams I have ever taken. Good luck
I am good at chem and got an A in this lab and my lecture. However, things were usually not explained well and it was often very unclear what exactly she wanted to happen in lab reports or during the procedure. It's also annoying that we had to pay for labflow out of pocket. The class is taught by a TA so you don't see Hatab at all.
I loved having Dr. Hatab as a professor and I cannot her recommend enough. She truly does care about her students and you can tell she puts in effort in wanting all of her students to succeed. I will say the exams are tough & you will definitely have to put in work to receive a good grade in this course. It is doable and she will help you succeed.
I had to drop the class. So many people failed and their GPAs sunk into hell. Run away and dont look back.
she is rude when answering and doesnt really care for you. very hard overall and you have to get a good ta or u are screwed
She was nice at first gave me an extension but she became super rude. I had her for lab and she literally made it almost impossible to makeup, my friend had surgery and still went thats how bad it was. The lab work/ lab journal grade is not to bad if you have a good TA but if you do not your screwed. The lab work was so confusing too!!!!
She is one of the most caring teachers at the whole school. This professor goes above and beyond to ensure that her students pass her class. She did an excellent job teaching us the material and, though I'm not taking chemistry past 122, I would love to have her again. I had a great experience in the classroom as long as I payed attention.
Dr. Hatab offered extra credit throughout the semester and explained everything very thoroughly in class. She really made sure that you got the material even though it was a huge lecture. I wish she taught chem 2! Please take Hatab if you can; she's the best!
She's caring, yeah, but did she teach me well? Nah. The exam questions are usually VERY different than the actual lecture. There has been a few times during the SI exam reviews where the TA even notes that Hatab might've not touched on a specific subject that is on that exam that much during lecture... really annoying.
Chem 122 is hard, but Hatab is by far the best. She has notes, clicker questions, SI leader, & a TA that will post workshops. Both do exam reviews, and Hatab uses the reviews to make some of the exam questions. You just have to put in the work!! Study more than the night before! Go to SI twice a week and to office hours! She wants you to succeed!!!
This class was not that difficult, unless you put in no outside work. Attend SI sessions especially during the test reviews, I learned more there than I did in class. Hatab is very fast and sometimes hard to follow, but she will try to help you if you go to office hours. Most of the homework comes from the lab.
Dr. Hatab was amazing! Her lectures were very organized and helped me understand chemistry in a way I wasn't able to beforehand. She gives many extra credit opportunities and is always willing to help if you have a question. I will say, the tests are pretty difficult, but her workshops really helped. AND GO TO SI ! Clickers for attendance.
She tries and truly wants you to succeed. Chem 122 is difficult because of how its structured. The Chem department is in shambles and the class needs a complete overhaul, however, Hatab is still the best choice. If you can, try to get Hatab, otherwise take chem over the summer. Save yourself the trouble (and the GPA). SI sessions are your friend!
Dr.Hatab truly seems to care about her students. Every class period she offered for students to go sit with her one on one and talk about things they were struggling with. Even though Chemistry is a hard subject she makes it easier. 1000% recommend her.
This class is very difficult but Dr. Hatab provides a lot of resources for extra help. Go to office hours and attend the SI sessions and the head TAs test reviews. She also provides a practice exam which have the same types of questions as the exams. Overall, if you work hard and get extra help when needed you can do well.
The class is hard, no doubt. I worked like I have never worked before. However, Dr. Hatab is very helpful and does what she can. The biggest complaint I heard was people complaining that she wouldn't reopen assignments after the due date. My response is, "do your assignments by the due date then." If you do your stuff, you'll at least pass.
Dr. Hatab was the most caring and supportive professor ever! She made herself very accessible to all her students and encouraged people to ask questions and engage in the material. She did a great job in aligning the material covered in lecture with the lab. She not only wanted everyone to succeed but she wanted everyone to master the material.
She was super nice, but at times it was hard to understand what was going on in class. There are several study groups and tutors available to help learn the lessons. Get ready to pretty much teach yourself the material though. Typically the exams were easier than the homework and quizzes. There is a lot of work with this class though.
Hard class, almost more than half the class fails. Whole chem department is on probation. Very lecture heavy and any study guides dont help. The exams are very very hard and solely application. I passed with a B- but only cause she had to curve it super hard. You have to do clicker questions with a new code every class. They come in clutch, so use
I LOVE Dr. Hatab. She teaches very difficult classes, so grades are usually lower as the content is hard. SHe makes lots of opportunities for extra credit and is always willing to help. I have taken her twice now and I wish I could take her for another chem class.
Dr. Hatab truly tries to make sure everyone understand the material and always explains what we will see on exams. Chemistry requires work outside of class but if you work at and use the resources she gives you it becomes more manageable. I don't love chemistry but Dr. Hatab makes you want to learn and want to do well.
I have never walked out of an exam before and started bawling because I didnt know anything on the exam. I wanted to drop out of college because of this class. You can tell Hatab is sweet, but she cant teach. I feel bad whenever I hear that anybody is in a chemistry class and I absolutely adored chemistry before I took this class.
I don't know whether to blame Hatab or the horrendous chem department, but this class and chem 122 were nightmares. The content is extremely hard and lectures really don't help. I can't necessarily say I recommend Hatab, but she is definitely the best out of the general chem professors. Take this class somewhere else.
Chem is tough, but if you are going to take it - take it with her!! All of her tests are straight from her lectures. Her lectures are very engaging and are easy to follow. She will go through problems step by step with you and is actually a saint.
While attendance is not really mandatory in most cases, one missed class will leave you lost for weeks. Hatab cares about students and does her best to make sure they understand the material. She's willing to help those in need and a lot of the homework is just a way of raising your final grade.
While Chemistry is a tough course, Dr. Hatab does all that she can to be accessible and guide students through the course. From holding reviews on Sundays to offering extra credit assignments, she is a true advocate for her students. If given the choice, take her for your Chemistry courses.
Dr. Hatab is an amazing professor! I wish she teaches organic. She provides you with all the material you need to get an "A" in the class. She cares about students. Her office door is always open for her students. Make sure to attend her lectures and go see her if you need help.
Dr. Hatab is amazing. UTK is known for having one of the worst chem departments and Dr. Hatab carries the entire thing on her back. If you take the time to go to her office hours and reach out, she WILL help you. She explains things better than anyone else, helps you make a study plan, and actually cares about you as a person. A beautiful human.
She's so nice and caring but I don't have a chemistry brain and I struggled all semester even after multiple office hours visits. She goes too fast in lecture and is hard to understand sometimes due to her accent.
everyone says she is really nice and approachable and she does seem nice in class but honestly every time i go to her she looks like she wants to rip her hair out of her head. she complicates things so much more than they needed to be. i learned more from the homework than i did from her.
Dr. Hatab cares about her students. She always responses to her email. She will help you with your homework. Just go to her office and she will explain everything you don't understand.
I Love Dr. Hatab!! She is so nice and sweet. She did an exam review for every exam we took. She even came on the weekend to do exam review. She cares about her students. Prepare your questions before you go to her office hours and she will help you understand the material. Take CHEM 132 with her if you want to learn the material.
Dr. Hatab is great. Chem 2 is definitely not an easy class but she cares and she will work with you. By far one of my favorites lectures.
Dr. Hatab was a good professor who gave you the information needed for the exams. She has example heavy lectures, provided workshops for each chapter, and had time to do review (she also came in on the weekend to do one). If you study the textbook, go into her office to ask questions, and do the clickers you will be fine.
Dr. Hatab was a good professor. The class itself is not that difficult if you attend lectures and work to understand basic concepts however the departmental style of the exams can be intimidating and require a good amount of studying. Dr. Hatab writes most of the exams so being in her class is a huge help especially if you go to office hours.
Dr. Hatab teaches chem 2 to the best of her ability as it is a hard class many students do not want to be present for. She goes above and beyond with extra review before tests, always telling her office hours, and responding to emails. Take advantage of her help and pay attention in class to do well. She really looks out for her students
While chemistry at UTK is very rough, Hatab is probably your best bet. She is very lecture/slide-heavy and can go pretty fast. It's sometimes difficult to keep up, but it isn't impossible.
If you only go to lectures you will probably hate her and be scared of her, however, if you go to office hours and talk to her she is very nice and helps you understand anything you are confused on.
Dr. Hatab is one of the best people you can take Chemistry 132 with! She always makes herself available to answer questions and tries to explain the material in the easiest way possible. She can be intense, but she is a really good professor if you put in effort and pay attention during lectures.
This woman is amazing. Everyone NEEDS to take a class with her!
Dr. Hatab is a very caring professor. Chemistry at UTK is by no means easy, but she is very helpful in her lectures and is always willing to answer any questions. There are a lot of extra credit opportunities in this course, take advantage. The practice exams definitely help with the real exams. Definitely requires a lot of time outside of class.
Difficult to work with. When you meet with her with concerns about your grade, she just gives you a lecture about studying more. She reopened assignments for dates before we even met, then she set them to the right date only for them to be due in the next few hours. I'm sick of dealing with her. Note: I'm a biochem major. This makes me hate chem.
Chemistry here is just flat out difficult. If you want to have the best chance though, get Hatab for lectures. If you pay attention and do the clickers then you'll pass the class. She is nice and tries to make sure everyone understands, and if you don't want to ask a question in front of everyone then just go to office hours.
Dr. Hatab is the kind of professor who took the class so long ago she forgot it was hard. I genuinely think she did not want us to succeed. In addition, if you like a clear grading scale don't take Hatab. The only advantage of taking Hatab is that she is not as bad as Yang. However, I am not even sure that is true anymore. Worst ever.
Honestly, great professor. The class is on the tough side, but as long as you do your homework and attend lectures and do your clickers, you will be fine. Plus, this class gets curved at the end I believe since the department is on probation.
Hatab is one of my favorite people and professors. She is a phenomenal person and is fantastic at teaching chemistry. REACH OUT TO HER!!! She will help and be considerate soooo much more if you just make the effort to communicate and get to know her! TAKE HER!!!
Dr. Hatab truly wants you to succeed. As long as you are willing to put in the hard work, she will be very helpful in office hours and challenge you to do well. Chemistry is not easy, but I genuinely enjoyed her class! I would absolutely recommend!
Dr. Hatab is very straight forward about what is expected of you in the lab. I saw her a few times in the lab so there is little to no face-to-face engagement with her. If you get a good TA the lab is very easy. She's accessible and very knowledgeable. Attendance is MANDATORY, make-up labs are hard to schedule so don't miss lab!!
Dr. Hatab was a great professor, I was just not a fan of chemistry. Everything is laid out easily for you and you know what is expected of you to earn a good grade. In 122, you get what you put into it and it's pretty easy to know where you are at. There are plenty of extra credit opportunities, but it is important to go to class for clicker points
Good professor, but she is not for every kind of student. Accent barrier that can hinder you from understanding her. She cares for all her students and will beg you to come to her. She is good, but every little point does count. I was less than 2 points away from a C not to have to retake this course and she couldn't give me the points sadly.
I was so nice to this professor but she has never been approachable and rejected me when I sent her a kind email. DO NOT TAKE
I loved Dr. Hatab so so much. Truly one of the nicest and funniest in the chem department. She does clicker questions every class. Exams and homework are not too bad as long as you listen and take notes during her lectures and study. She's really good at explaining everything, definitely take her if you can!
This was one of the most unhelpful professors I have ever attempted to work with. She was the overall professor for my Chemistry Lab, but the TAs were the only ones actually interacting with students. Don't even attempt to email her with a question because it will not get answered unless you physically go see her. Good luck.
Dr. Hatab is very sweet! She's always willing to help students, and she tries to ensure there are plenty of resources to help each student succeed even in a difficult course.
As someone who took Chem 1 three times (I know), I was so scared going into Chem 2. I am not good at chemistry at all. But that is no reflection of Dr. Hatab because I have never had a professor who cares as much as her. TAKE HER CLASS-- if you fall behind, email her, she is AMAZING with helping struggling students get caught up. Such a fun class
I don't care what people say i LOVED Dr. Hatab!!! She explains stuff really well, and makes it clear you can come to her for any questions. She goes fast in lectures, but if you can keep up then its truly not as awful as people make it out to be. Shes very funny and sweet and honestly the best you will get in the chem department. Loved her sm!!
Dr. Hatab is the best professor you can take. She truly cares if her students understand the material. Her lectures are very good, provides you with powerpoints to take your notes on, and records all her lectures. She also offers extra credit quizzes unlike other chemistry professors. This is my second time taking chem and she has been so helpful.
Dr. Hatab is a great chemistry professor. Goes out of her way to prepare you for exams by hosting a review session outside of class before exams. Keeps lectures focused on exactly what is on the exams rather than teaching information we won't ever need. Helpful if you go to office hours.
Dr.Hatab was an ok professor. She didn't always make things super clear but was helpful if you went to office hours and reviews. She constantly contradicted herself and I felt like she was always lying about exam prep in terms of what was on the exam. The final exam was super hard. Overall, she was alright but most would say better than others.
Definitely take Dr. Hatab for chem 2!! She was very accessible outside of class for office hours and exam review sessions. In her lectures, she would make it clear what information to write down and know for the exams. If you pay attention in class, listen to what she has to say, and put in work outside class, you can do well in this class!
The best professor you could take chem with! I could not speak more highly of her. Very helpful review sessions that outlined what exactly was going to be on the exam. Lectured well and never felt any topic was glossed over. She offered many bonus points and was always more than willing to help. Definitely taking upper-level chem classes with her.
She's not the worst but I would not take her again. You have to teach yourself. Going to SI sessions/ attending workshops is important in this class if you want to do well, but difficult to do when you have a full school schedule, a job, etc. It would be nice if the exams were curved more, and she dropped more hw/ quizzes, but it is what it is.
The class has a super fast pace, so be prepared to do a lot of studying outside of class.
Dr. Hatab really cares about her students. However, sometimes her lectures are not clear but she will answer any question you have as long as you are brave enough to ask. The downfall was the exams. They often contain many questions that were not covered and the material in the review often does not match either. If you work hard, you will be fine!
Dr. Hatab is your best bet for chemistry here at UTK. Dr. Hatab is great at explaining concepts in lecture and wants her students to succeed. The exams are tough but if you take 1-2 hours a day to review you should understand the concepts fairly well. Take advantage of the SI sessions and the workshops!
Out of all the professors for GenChem at UTK, she is the best. It is a difficult course and she can sometimes come off harsh but she does want students to succeed.
This is one of the only chemistry professors that actually gives multiple extra credit opportunities. This helps out a lot in the long run. She is great, but the material and the whole chemistry department is terrible. You have to study a lot to pass or especially to make an A.
She is by far one of the most caring professors I have taken. She is very accessible and ready to help when needed, as long as you pay attention to her examples, you will do well! The content is hard, but she is the best at putting things into layman's terms. Make sure to utilize her office hours and NEVER miss her test reviews.
Overall, I feel like the class lectures were easier than the tests, which was challenging for a lot of people. That said, Dr. Hatab provides past exams and review guides that help prepare you for the exam. Dr. Hatab provided a lot of extra credit opportunities which helped boost your grade at the end if it was needed.
A lot of people complain about hatab, but imo she was a amazing professor, she gave you what you needed to pass and her exam reviews were amazing. Her lectures were super helpful and helped a lot with the hw. I would have loved to have hatab as my teacher for all of my chemistry classes. She was also super helpful during office hours.
Hatab knows the material very well but can fly through it too fast and make it more difficult than it needs to be. When I went to her for help, she wasn't helpful and basically told me to keep trying and figure it out without offering any help to explain the material. I did well in 122 with Dr. Do, but Hatab was not as helpful as Do.
I enjoyed Hatab. She can sound a bit condescending sometimes, but I just found it funny. Her lectures are fast and so are her clickers, but if you pay attention you should be fine. Her 8am was engaging enough for me not to fall asleep. Study hard and attend her office hours! She is incredibly nice 1 on 1 so take advantage!
Time spent on unimportant/simple topics heavily outweighs time spent on difficult topics.
Dr. Hatab is a wonderful person, very sweet and generally willing to answer questions. However, her lectures are mostly her talking at you and she doesn't give out a lot of practice, you you'll do better in this class if you're intrinsically motivated.
I expected her to be so much better than she was because of these reviews. Her lectures are so hard to follow because of her accent, her pace and when she's screaming at me at 8 am. She occasionally uses clicker in class which i thought was helpful but she gives no time to work out the problem. I learned all the material in this class from my SI.
Dr. Hatab is a good lecturer, and clearly understands the material. She cares about her students and wants to help, but the class itself is just very difficult. We have to move through the lectures fast to keep up, so a lot of people get left behind. With such difficult material and a terrible department, there's only so much she can do.
8 am lecture consists of her going 1 power point and does not teach the material at all. Teaches just enough in class for students to get a C, if you want to get a higher grade than that good luck learning all the material on your own. She also gets upset when you ask questions in class when you don't understand the material.
Dr. Hatab has been one of my favorite professors here at UT. She was constantly available for office hours and makes the chem 132 exams so it was always very clear what content was expected to be seen on them. Just a reminder that this is a HARD COURSE! Students will get out what they PUT IN. Dr. Hatab provided a lot of opportunities to succeed.
I enjoyed Dr. Hatab, she definitely knows the material and cares about her students. Her lectures are very fast so it's essential to pay attention and work outside of class. I learned a lot from the homework and her workshops. Reviews felt easier than exams but if you study a lot you should be ok. Plenty of extra credit is given to boost grades.
Dr. Hatab's class is very difficult, with long homework assignments and hours of studying, but she explains the topics very well and wants her students to succeed. She offers extra credit at the beginning of the year, and going to the exam reviews on the weekend helps a lot.
Chem 2 is a hard class. The material is dense and is taught very fast. The class is homework heavy which is a pain but in the end is beneficial because it can balance out poor exam grades to still pass the class. Hatab is caring and really wants students to succeed. Go see her! She will draw out problems with you and make sure you understand.
Dr. Hatab wants you to succeed and will happily explain things you might be struggling with to you after class or during office hours. Pay attention during lecture and attend her study review sessions before exams and you'll do good.
Dr. Hatab, while nice, emphasizes memorization over understanding, saying "this will be on the exam" or "don't worry about this," but then includes unexpected material on tests. Her explanations often don't make sense, and she oversimplifies concepts, assuming students aren't capable of understanding them fully, which impacts test performance.
She didn't explain things well at all. To get an A you have to teach yourself. Content isn't hard you just can't learn it from her. She raises her voice and her answers never make sense. She's very nice just not a good professor. Really emphasizes memorizing over understanding.
The goat. Chem 2 is supposedly hard but she does her best to take the stress off of students and help them through it. Has always been very nice and understanding towards me and answers my emails quickly. She also provides extra resources to help students, which other professors don't.
Her class is very hard to keep up with, but she is the best option for Chem 2 professors. She doesn't explain how she solves most problems, so it gets really difficult to understand how she gets to her answers. I highly recommend getting a tutor for this class and attending the review and SI sessions. This is a HARD class.
Genuinely wants her students to succees
Dr. Hatab cares deeply about her students and truly wants them to succeed. She holds exam reviews on her days off - Sundays, and makes sure students are aware of any resources that can be used to help. She is a very sweet person and makes it known that she is on your side.
Dr. Hatab is the best out of all the Chem 2 professors. She writes the exams, so in her lectures, she always tells you exactly what will be on the exam and what won't. She is funny too. I actually enjoyed her class at times.
Had for chem 1&2. Lectures have a lot of material in a short time no matter who you take it with but Hatab was a great professor. She wants to see her students succeed, she will always answer your questions and constantly links helps sources and sends emails about reviews and study sessions. If you put in the effort she will like you and help you.
Professor Hatab is very knowledgeable at chemistry and really wants to see everyone succeed. Very accessible outside of class for office hours and review for exams. Is very nice when you get to know her.
If you engage with her and the content, you will do well.
Dr.Hatab is the best chem professor at UTK. She cares for her students a lot, and took everything step by step to ensure no one was left behind. As long as you did the homework, and payed attention while attending class you should do well!
Dr. Hatab is the best general chemistry professor. She genuinely cares for her students and wants them to succeed. However, she does expect all students to study a lot and she gets upset when students don't do well. Anyways, she's the best.
The lectures are very good and she does a good job of teaching you exactly what will be on the exam and preparing you well.
Dr. Hatab cares about her student a lot and gives so much advice during her office hours. GO TO OFFICE HOURS!!!!!
There's a reason why Dr. Hatab is the Director of General Chemistry. Her lectures are informative and necessary to do well on the quizzes and exams. General chemistry II is a hard class no matter who your professor is, but Dr. Hatab makes it easy to understand and is always accessible during her office hours.
People have mixed reviews on Dr. Hatab, but she is an amazing professor. She moves very quickly, but teaches well and prepares her students well for the exams. You can tell she cares and enjoys teaching. Definitely the best choice of professor for CHEM132.
Definitely better than Yang, but not great. Went to office hours for help and she made me feel so incredibly dumb for needing and asking for extra help. She expects you to have a very good background knowledge of chem so if you did bad in chem 122, be extra prepared to study. But, I failed every exam and still passed the class so that was good.
Chemistry here is hard, but she truly wants you to succeed. Dr. Hatab tries to make things as easy as possible, and her workshops and reviews really help on exams. She's definitely the best chemistry professor, take her if you can!
I love you Nahla Hatab. She wants you to succeed so bad - at least 10 points of extra credit are built into every test, low grades get dropped, and she provides so many review materials - lecture slides, past exams, practice tests, workshops, etc. The homework is lowkey irrelevant but it's an easy grade booster if you are not a good test taker.
As soon as you're confused, go to her office hours, go to SI sessions, study with your friends. She's super nice and adamant about explaining things but it's still a lot of coursework. Make sure to keep up with the homeworks, quizzes, and especially any extra credit because it can make or break your grade.
Dr. Hatab is the QUEEN!!!! She is so supportive and cheerful in lecture, she wants all of her students to succeed! Chemistry is hard, but Dr. Hatab makes it easy to understand through her lectures, supplemental materials, and access to her office hours and SI sessions. I would hands down take Dr. Hatab again!
Dr. Hatab is very kind and cares about her students. She teaches a hard class and its easy to struggle, however she wants to help and is a great teacher. She uses clear criteria and her exams are challenging but you just have to attend lecture and be ready to work very hard and you will do well.
Dr. Hatab is so supportive and does everything she can as a professor to help her students succeed! Chemistry can be challenging, but she explains every concept thoroughly and is always welcoming during office hours for any questions. She gives out old exams and workshops to help study for exams, and she builds in extra credit to help you out!
Dr. Hatab makes concepts much easier to understand and will help you succeed if you go to class and help sessions.
Gen chem 2 is really not that bad if you have it with Hatab. She is intense but very caring. Her clickers are hard but they're similar to the test questions since she writes the tests. Biggest advice is to go to her weekend review sessions before tests because she gives lots of subtle hints of what to study and the practice problems are similar.
Despite what people say, CHEM132 isn't really that bad if you take it with Dr. Hatab. It is doable if you keep up with the lectures/work and ask for help. Dr. Hatab is super nice in office hours and will explain things in an easy-to-understand way. She does use clickers for in-class points, but there is extra credit if you need it. Great professor!
Had her for lab. Saw her once the entire year, which was the first day. She subbed for my lecture one day and clearly cared about our learning, but almost treated us like kids, asking if we understood every 10 seconds. For lab, you're going to want a good TA. Mine was amazing! Shoutout Johnathan!
Dr. Hatab is very passionate about teaching, and does a great job. The class is going to be hard, but she will do everything to help if you just ask. The tests are quite difficult, but if you use her workshops and practice tests, you will be prepared. Compared to any other chem professor at UTK, she is certainly the one you want to take.
She is an ok teacher, but the exams are way different and much harder than what you learn in class. The exams take up most of your grade so if you don't do well on them you won't do well in the class. She makes some students feel stupid sometimes. Half the class fails every exam. Would recommend taking it at a community college to save yourself.
Her class was very hard to follow along in unless you take extremely detailed notes. She gives out very little practice work and the practice work is often much easier than the actual exams. You need to memorize the majority of the course to pass on the exams and practically teach yourself. Take it at a community college or get tutoring ASAP.
Class has seemingly nothing to do with exams. The homework and quizzes will have you feeling confident and you take the exams only to find you haven't seen problems like these before. No partial credit on exam grading, if any is wrong it's all long. Difficult to understand, flies through lectures and if you miss a single thing it's hard to catch up
No review material provided and the SI's practice is no where close to the exams' levels of difficulty. Dr. Hatab is amazing and very nice but for people who are not familiar with chemistry at the AP level prior to this class, be careful.. Maybe take another science if you aren't required to have chemistry. But if you are, Dr. H is the best option.
Gen Chem 2 was a hard class but Dr Hatab is a decent professor. Going to her office hours helps a lot as well as making sure you don't move on before learning the next chapter. Exams are brutal.
Chem is a beast here, and I truly think no matter your professor, majority of the material has to be self-taught. Her lectures are long, and honestly did not prepare me well for the exams! I will say, she doesn't want you to fail, it is just a hard class to succeed in. Don't take chem unless your major requires it, ended with an A-, but it was HARD
You will be teaching yourself majority of the material outside of class no matter what professor you have. Exams were consistently more difficult that practice exams and SI sessions. Be prepared to study for hours if you want to succeed in this course. Hatab cares a lot about her students and will answer any question you have to help you succeed.
By no means is Chem 122 easy; it will require teaching yourself outside of lecture, going to office hours, and setting up tutor sessions. However, Dr. Hatab made the lectures much more engaging, showed excitement in teaching, and always maintained a positive attitude. You can tell she cares about her students and wants everyone to succeed
I hated this class, but she was direct and told you exactly what you needed to know for the exams. What I liked the most and found the most useful for exams was going to her exam reviews. They are held on Sunday, but she does that in order to allow the most amount of people to come, they are not mandatory but definitely help. She clearly cares.
Dr. Hatab is the best chem professor! She makes every topic easy to understand and is super accessible outside of lecture.
Gen chem 2 in general is a beast of a class so it is hard no matter who you have. Dr Hatab really cares about students understanding the material and would constantly make sure we were good before moving on. Tons of clickers. You lowkey have to teach yourself everything outside of class though..
