Really funny guy, has trouble with english some times but he gets the point across.
Has a thorough knowledge of the content and will easily explain any problems you might have.
A very confusing man, he jumps all over the place and gets side tracked very easily. I really had no idea what I was doing about 90% of the course. Got an A, not really sure how. Did not help prep me for the A+ cert at all. Do not pick his class if you're in need of the information.
He tries hard to teach and may know the material well but as a teacher does not do a good job 'teaching' the material. Very unorganized and unclear. Doesn't follow his sylabus . Spend more time talking about real world experiences rather than the course material. If possible take another teacher if you want to learn the material.
Take his online courses. He doesn't speak English as a first language, but it doesn't matter. You barely have to talk to him. Every assignment is done through MyITLab and you get 3 tries to get the best grade you can on easy multiple choice questions. The tests are timed, but you get 2 hours each attempt, and 3 attempts! Easy A.
I took this because a lot of the reviews were pretty okay, but he did not make it easy at all. I had struggled through COP1000 and then he used completely different method for both the programs used and the methods to teach them with. I could barely understand him also. Take him at your own risk!
This is the best programming teacher at FSCJ. Don't worry about what all these other ppl saying on here about him because that aint real. His office hours are worth it! His explanations make sure you understand the concept of programming. I would def take him again if I had more classes but im about to graduate! KEEP UP THE HARD WORK MR. SAYLANI!!!
Take him only if you have programmed before, doesn't matter the language. Too many people blame him that he expects you to know the basics of programming. I recommend him only if you have programmed, otherwise you will struggle. I liked him though, and he is willing to work with you.
you should not take him, i got an 89 because of his subjective grading. the whole class agreeded he was horrabe. He doged most questions asked and very little taugt in class will help your grade. Just dont do it!
Very confusing. Jumped around a lot. Even though many people asked, would not give answers to homework unless you had time to stop by his office and chat. Says "if we haven't covered it in class, it's not on the test". Questions and concepts on test not covered in class. He seems to be more interested in showing how smart he is than teaching.
Great prof, Easy class to take online. I received an 89 percent. I didnt have any question for this prof during the class so I can't relate on response time. However it did take up to a week to grade some quiz. I Would take the prof again any day.
Didn't put out a study guide for the midterm, fell behind on his schedule. Got way off topic during class time. Don't really expect much help, on top of that many techniques are expected to be known that are not covered in the book. Beware.
Professor Saylani is very helpful. Show up, listen, try and you will be successful. Very intelligent man, he really cares about your success in class.
Great teacher! Sometimes he tries to be funny but messes up the joke or no one understands, so the class is then silent, then he says, "Ok, nevermind...". But, when he compares programming topics with people, it is hilarious! The best was when he compared how safe Java is, and how powerful and uncaring C++ is.
He is a terrible professor. I took his course online and he gave me a first B ever. I earned an A but he gave be a B. TEERRRIIIBBBLLLEEE I repeat terrible!!!! I have 3.97 on a 4 scale I make great grades. It was not me it was him!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Professor Saylani is a great professor and he is very knowledgeable. Yes, it is best that you have some programming background, BUT he will take time with you during office hours to give you the extra help you need. You get out what you put in. He will pour knowledge into you if you are willing to receive it and yes he is funny!
This is the hardest class that I have taken so far and it didn't have to be. He rambles on to the point where we are dismissed almost 20 minutes late. goes off topic and teaches almost 4 different topics in one class. no time to grasp the concept and moves on to something else. Tough grader and sometimes hard to understand. would never take again!!
Never clear, goes off topic when he explains ideas , assigns HW during spring break without prior notification. Test are hard but are not expected to be perfect, a lot of the time he can't even answer his own test question that HE wrote without a good amount of time later. One of the worst I've ever had. HW is ok. Must know programming to be ok.
easily the WORST professor I've ever had. Expects you to understand programming as much as he does.. he will never stop class to check up on how everyone is doing with their program he will just go on and on and on. he'll ask questions that no one will know the answer to but that doesnt stop him from rambling on. DONT take him save yourself!!!
The content of class is not difficult, but having to take a 100-question test every week is ridiculous! For finals week, I have to take a final exam and do an "individual project". The final consists of two 100-question tests, and there's a 100-question test on the project. Complete overkill. Professor's grading is horrible and feedback unhelpful.
Professor Saylani knows what he is talking about and is a pretty easy professor. If your programs work, you're almost guaranteed an A on that assignment. My biggest complaint is that he always went way past our scheduled meeting time. Other than that, I would recommend him.
I've taken two classes with this professor so far. He cares about the material and teaching. It's not a class you can sleep through though. I saw many of my classmates drop out. But if I had to do it again, I'd definitely take his classes and put more effort in. I learned a lot.
The material is brand new and difficult. But, he is a great teacher. If a topic goes over your head in class, he will help you during office hours. Period! He seems to love to help students. You may not get it in class, seriously, but he will help you every day! He will consider your drive when grading. I will seek his advice when he's not my prof.
Great teacher, understands the material. Will help during his office hours
I've got mixed feelings about professor Najib. He seems like a good person but is not always clear in what his expectations and work entails. I found myself very frustrated at times with this course but at the same time, he can be very flexible and understanding. Not sure... It's an over all easy class.
Dr. Saylani is an amazing teacher. Yes, he is difficult, has a slight accent (a non-issue for me personally), and you will work HARD for what you get in his class. He knows how to read a class as a whole and teach a challenging yet attainable skill level for each one. If you want to learn coding and computers take him -FSCJ's best prof IMHO
Easy class if you know how to code. This was my first coding class and I was stressed the whole semester. Midterm and final 30% each and several coding homework assignments. No quizzes or other exam. Book wasn't used. gives practice exams. Teaches as if everyone knows how to code. Inconsiderate of class time (goes over time every class)
Dr. Saylani is a good professor, and he cares about his students. He is a fair grader. He goes over the class time. Attendance is not mandatory. The book is never used, but I recommend that you buy supplementary materials, and watch tutorials on YT. If you have basic programming skills, and complete all of the assignments, you should be fine.
Prof grades on a curve. What is listed in 'My Grades' is not your real grade. You have to use a special formula to calculate your real grade. He gives good feedback though on his assignments he wants you to be detailed but not too detailed. You get marked off for being too long. Would not recommend taking unless he is your only choice.
HE WAS THE WORST TEACHER OF ALL! HE CURSES AT YOU AND THINKS YOUR WORTHLESS AND HE WASTES TIME IN CLASS TALKING ABOUT REAL LIFE. RUN AS FAR AWAY FROM THIS CLASS BECAUSE HE IS NOT GOING TO GIVE YOU A GOOD GRADE. HE CAN UNDERSTANDING AND HE DOES SOME "HANDS ON CODING" BUT HE DOES IT FOR HIS OWN PURPOSES AND HIS PROJECTS ARE HARD. HE IS HARD AS A ROCK
He is not a great teacher and he talks about planes. He does some hands on things and his handwriting and spelling is off and his projects are very hard to understand and being a visual learner is hard with it. He does email you back and forth and you can go to his office hours but it is useless to go. He goes off topic alot & no extra credit RUDE!
Even the homework he gives us is not related to what we are actually learning. He forgot to post the answer key to our review questions to the test review, so I couldn't tell if I was doing anything right. When I actually took the test test I felt like I didn't know 45% of it. He had a thick accent and doesn't seem to care about his students. Run.
Any feedback provided will strat from your own attempt. But, the specs can be clarified as many times as your request it. (He spelt the word straight wrong) His errors are not good for this class. I did not attend it very much but his lectures were fair.
You are strongly advised to complete this practice on your own. Use the example we covered in class you need to focus on everything we covered so far and especially this tools and techniques used in your project Note that no solution will be provided if you do not provide an honest attempt (follow the directions) he does write notes
Every program we developed in class is either to cover new topics or to review. A review was done every time we had to move to new topics. Either on the board under Eclipse or both. The topics you need to study consist of everything we covered so farthe practice exam is a good reference for what will be needed: -use of JOptionPane. -Inheritance
This class was very tough but Im not a programming major thats why. Its still manageable and he is very nice grading. Dedicate at least an hour a week (more for the project) and youll do well. Very helpful IF you at least attempt coding program. Only bad thing is that he ALWAYS runs over class time by like 10 minutes and its already 9.
If we're really being honest, Professor Saylani reiterates throughout the course that attendance is very important to your success in the class. If you do not understand something be sure to clarify during his office hours. I highly advise anyone taking his classes to ask questions and do the practices!
He's a good teacher. You will need to pay plenty attention and ask questions about things you do not understand he will help you.
Have a basic knowledge from CP2000 or python or both and you will do fine in this course.
He is very knowledgeable, but sometimes gets off topic. He does not give powerpoints nor notes, but he will stay as long as you need to get your questions answered. He is good at answer emails fast! He likes to talk about himself. He knows Java. I would take his class only if you want to pass advanced java in the Fall semester. Get everything right
Do you have any coding experience? If the answer is no, don't take this class. You want to have some knowledge of some language and be able to apply yourself. Lecture HEAVY. Don't miss class. Hard to know where you stand with him grading wise, doesn't have norm approach to assignments/grading. Goes with flow of class. Ask questions!!
I specifically chose this professor for this class, after taking him in the Microsoft Word, etc. class. He cares more about students learning than due dates, so it's not uncommon for him to bump due dates if he thinks the class needs it. He is good at answering questions but you need to ask them. Often goes over time though. Don't skip.
Had to drop class. "Prof" wouldn't respond to emails with questions of how to access course material. Uses obscure format for lecture videos and I wasn't able to view them on my laptop, or my phone, or an FSCJ computer in the lab, which the prof stated in his syllabus we should be able to complete ALL coursework that way. Poor access to material!!
I did not need the book just the access code. The homework required your time but if you pay attention to the homework itll be an easy A. Although I got a B due to lack of interest in this subject it was extremely easy and I wish I gave it my all. He was available when needed and the exams were everything that was gone over in class. no complaint
I took his online C7. The class was everywhere. He didnt follow his own syllabus and the due dates were extremely confusing. Thanksgiving week he assigned a ton of work with no extension. One week he assigned eight assignments, five of them being projects. The assignments are not very hard ( if youre computer savvy) but are very time consuming.
If you have no prior knowledge of programming, this class is a difficult challenge. Professor is very knowledgeable in Java, and quickly responds to emails. Cares about students actually learning code, less about due dates. Difficult class, but not a bad teacher. Homework/Project carry different weight per diff. classes.
He does not follow his syllabus at all, apparently. Expect to wing it, because that is what he does. Grading is confusing and not transparent at all. He also does not care that he assigned 9 assignments, one being a final, during finals week. He ALSO restricted the days you can complete them all. Good luck if you take ANY other classes or work.
Took online class but he makes you watch his recorded video from his physical class. Which is fine but videos are encoded in weird Adobe wrf format. Only adobe software plays it, horrible. Online class but he makes you come in his class for a final. For first weeks he assigns homework in some Raptor software, windows only. 0 points 4 late homework
Professor Saylani is very clear in his communications as to what is expected throughout the course. The course is set up so anyone can learn no matter your learning style. The online class just needed the access code. I highly recommend him for this class!
Easy Grader, do the practice assignments, they are JUST like the test but reworded. And you can bring them in as notes... No excuse not to get an A.
I had Professor Saylani for two semesters of Java and C classes. I say its an easy A if your do your homework and take practice test, which is very similar to the final. When you do your final, make sure to include all covered topics in your code and homework. Good teacher too.
Professor does not follow his syllabus. Assignments were not consistent. One assignment per month, given on a random Friday and had to be submitted on Tuesday. (Not even a week to complete) No textbook, just video lectures that are difficult to understand and follow. Would not recommend.
Professor Saylani is a great choice for C programming. If you pay attention during class and ask questions when you're stuck, he will help you out. Gives good feedback for assignments and gives opportunity for a good bit of extra credit. I'd definitely recommend him for C programming at FSCJ.
I've never given anyone a rating on here before, but Professor Saylani went above and beyond to work with me, and help me make sure I passed the class, even at the 11th hour, when he was really busy with all of his other classes. If you're looking for a teacher who wants you to succeed, take him.
I took his class non-synchronous online. He records himself giving lectures for a couple of hours each week and gives an assignment to complete on your own. He gives an announcement when new things are posted for you to view. He teaches you everything you need to know to complete the assignments. No textbooks. Speaks Slowly.
Gives you a whopping 5 assignments for the entire semester that are pointless towards your grade; your grade relies on the midterm, project, and final. Makes you watch 2-3 hour lecture videos once every two weeks filled with irrelevant rambles and unintelligible microsoft paint "notes". No chance to practice or learn coding in the slightest.
This man is something else. He's like this spouse that you just want to divorce so bad. I get it-teaching an online class isn't easy but I felt like he didn't give us time to understand the material. He teaches as if we all know java and coding. He tend to go off topic a lot. Overall, I wish we had a book and I will never take his class ever again!
Enjoyed his active teaching style better than following lecture slides. He is open to feedback and questions from students. He posts his notes he makes in class on canvas for the student's benefit, but they only make sense when it is along the corresponding lecture. If you don't like classes that don't use textbooks and slideshows, don't take him.
These negative reviews are whack, Saylani was the BEST professor I ever had. There's no textbook, he teaches us HIMSELF. Can be hard at times, but he goes into great detail and gives awesome advice to make sure you are understanding. He's hilarious too. Class is quiz/test heavy (90% of grade). If you want an easy class/want to cheat, don't take him
Mr. Saylani is the best teacher I have ever had in my life. He actually cares about teaching. He doesn't waste his time with PowerPoints and instead goes over everything form the basic level using drawing to help you visual see it. He grades based on the effort you put in the class. He is always ready to help and is quick to respond with advice.
Not a good professor at all. His videos that he creates does not answer any questions that a student may have. I am being brutally honest here. I asked him numerous times for help, which I never received. He did not care to know any questions I had nor didnt give me feedback on any work I turned in. I was setup to fail in this class.
I am conflicted about him. Good guy, knowledgable, but very disorganized, seems stubborn in his ways, a drawback. No schedule, random due dates. random lecture dates, Impossible to plan around it. Makes you take note of a number he writes during lectures and post it to prove you watched the video. If I don't watch it, my grade should reflect it
Nothing in the course even matters for any type of grade. All assignments, quizzes, etc, all less than 5% of your overall grade. The project, midterm, and final make your grade. Not very helpful when asking for help either.
He cares, but needs coaching. No schedule, classes posted randomly, rambles for 60% of the lecture. Mid and Final not announced in advance. Lecture is written in MS PAINT and its hard to read. Responds fast to emails but his class could be much much better with a few tweaks.
Prof. Saylani is great and knows his stuff, but he is clearly not for the feint of heart (as you can probably guess from other reviews here). There is no live class meeting, instead you watch lecture videos that span from 30 mins - 2 hours depending on the topic. All assignments are due at the EOW (sun). Do the work, study, and you'll be fine.
This professor is awful. His teaching strategies are brought from another country not the US. He ask you so much to do for no grade. His syllabus is focus on midterm & the final exam 70% to pass . Regardless your effort, He clearly said you need to spend at least 25 hours weekly to pass this class. Assignments and quizzes will not help at all.
The grading criteria was unclear and the professor didn't get in touch with students enough.
Super hard subject, but Professor Saylani does a great job of teaching what is required to know, and is very fair with grading, gives assignments similar to what will be on the tests, allows for good grade to be achieved as long as you study and understand the homework/work assigned. Understand HW pass. Do good on the exams and you should pass.
He's awful. Uploaded 3 hours boring videos every week at 1 am. Must watch all videos to catch binary # "11100011" if not, it counts against you, if you do, no credit either. Video on mute for 10- 30 minutes. Score 100% on all homework & assignments have no meaning to final grade. Though midterm & final exam. Midterm exam posted @2pm & due @7PM.
RUN FAR FAR FAR AWAY. intro to java.. was not this class. HW's and Quizzes ( we had 5 of each) each are worth .7 of your grade. There are required "binary assignments" that go along with his lectures. In addition to attending a 2 hour+ class. There was 1 project we did and 1 final. If you ask a question he will respond with a question to you.
First and foremost, your midterm and your final are your grade. The weights of the quizzes make them nearly useless beyond the practice. The excel quizzes really confused me and I could never figure them out, they were Java code, in and excel spreadsheet... I didn't get it. Pay attention, practice and ask questions. He's hard, but fair.
Knowledgeable, but the worst teacher I've ever had. MS Paint handwritten lectures. Online asynchronous class with less than 72 hours notice of the two-hour window when the midterm would be available. Individual assignments have 12+ typos. Read the other reviews. It's worse than they say. Material is easy. Class is not. STAY AWAY!
We were able to use our book on the midterm but the book itself was not much help. The professor would respond to emails, but it was kind of cryptic and not always helpful. I would take him again, but probably not for a difficult class.
I wish I could give this guy a 5 star review; however, he was one of the most difficult professors to work with. He will call you out in class if he feels like you're not doing well and will be quick to comment (20 minutes worth of talking bad about you, I counted) about if you miss a lecture without knowing there was a family emergency involved.
If you want doing great for your programming classes, please take him. He is the best professor I have ever had. He explains everything very clearly. He gives extra credit whenever you have homework. If you stuck with your homework, email him and he will help you out (he replies via email really quick).
Lectures are long and often goes on an unrelated tangent. Responses to questions are often hard to follow. Be prepared to teach yourself as most homework assignments differ greatly from lecture examples.
JUST DON'T. I would rate this professor 0 stars if I could. He gives little to no advanced warnings about anything. He often posts homework and quizzes halfway through the week, while still having it due Sunday. For the midterm, he didn't even give a week's notice and had it set for a 2-hour window though it is an online test.
To be honest the guy goes off in tangents a lot during lectures and might not be able to finish the lecture material on time some times which can be annoying at times. But he is chill and if you visit him on office hours and put some work in, there is no reason for you not to pass. FYI final and mid are 35% each so you need to be working hard.
Please don't take him if you want to pass and understand the class. Even though the book is required, he wants you to do the homework base on what he cover in class even though you don't understand what he did in class) I had a tutor help me, my code is working but he still gives me O because it wasn't from his way of doing it.
To be simple, 2+ hour long lectures every week, aren't mandatory cuz they dont hurt ur grade, but rlly are...Must watch to either listen/look for a 8 digit code he flashes on the screen and if u don't find it, he thinks u didnt watch it. Final, midterm, &1 project worth ur whole grade. Forget any code knowledge you know, he only likes things his way
It can be hard to understand him at times and he uploads really long videos, but they can be helpful. he gives a lot of extra credit and as long as you are trying and asking him for help when you need it, you will get a fair grade. He does grade few things in this class though. Also, he actually lets you use notes on the exams.
Smart professor, knows what he is talking about. The class was pretty hard, but you can definitely get an A if you pay attention and try hard. There is extra credit on every homework assignment and exam. You need to pay attention in class or you will get lost, good thing is he is pretty engaging and funny so its not that hard.
-easy A if you turn off brain and do what he wants -will set you up for real world
His class is chill, he takes a lot of time to get through a lecture at times, but over all he is understanding and will try to help you understand things if you are confused, make sure to go to his office hours if you don't get something. The class is test heavy, I believe it was like 35% each for the mid and final. You need to self-study a lot.
I'm a month away from completing this class. Its simply like this. His lectures are long. You must complete the required work around his guidance. In short, your programming knowledge doesn't matter, test the way he teaches. Homework assignments are detailed clearly. Its your job to create algorithmic solutions based on the lecture.
This professor is not good. I followed how he does his program, then received that my grade is pending since it is similar to another student! His lectures are very long and he talks a lot of side stories that you dont need. He even made a student to feel ashamed because he ask about real numbers. Terrible professor
Professor Saylani is very knowledgeable and does care about his students. I see many negative reviews, and I think some people my have trouble understanding his heavy accent, but in my experience, he is always available and willing to help you out. You just need to contact him by email, as he indicates as his preferred means of contact.
This professor wasn't that good at all. He only provide lectures in MS Paint written and it was so hard to read everything. Also, in Java, he made his coding so complicated that made me flunked his class. So if you want to pass the class, DO NOT take this professor! It'll be impossible to pass his class and easily end up failing.
Professor Saylani always answered any questions I had via email. He responded right away most of the time. The work was online and imo easy. The midterm and finals are the biggest part of your grade! He did give extensions in some assignments as he believed students needed more time. Provided video lessons to show what needed to be done.
he loves to assign things right before they're due, his preferred method of teaching is to release upwards of 3 3-hour long lectures each week with hidden codes inside of them to make sure you watch them, and his grading is an absolute mystery. he only buys a bit back because he's unintentionally very funny
He is a great professor! He gave numerous assignments extended to do dates for students that had trouble. He is very fair and reasonable. I definitely understand how some might have trouble with his thick accent. But other than that do the work, and you will do great on the midterm and final exam and will get an A
Make sure to have experience with C before taking this class. COP1000 will not teach you anything. Study a lot in your side. If you only use his practices and homework, you are not going to pass this class. Pay attention on their class just to know what type of approach is his solution. Since, he doesn't like it to use outside sources.
Not sure if I learned best practices or professor's coding preferences but was a rough experience. Online class with on-campus proctored exams, makes you sign every page of syllabus, no clearly defined grading rubric, and paranoid about cheating. Encouraged overseas military to drop class due to in-person exams. Knowledgeable but cannot recommend.
Heavy on exams (35% mid-term, 40% final) with 20% projects, 5% HW. Mandatory 3-hour classes require serious self-study and prior coding experience. Open book exams are tricky. Not for the faint of heart!
Despite some bad reviews, Professor Saylani was awesome in COP 1000 and COP 2220C. He really cares about students' progress, and emphasizes paying attention and completing assignments. If you attend each class and complete each assignment, passing is guaranteed! Don't underestimate the quality of his class!
Typically opens assignments right before they're due, with a somewhat inconsistent schedule; very strict on late work despite this. Had eight assignments due on Father's Day weekend! Cagey with communication and doesn't respond quickly to emails. Check Canvas near constantly if you don't want to be caught off guard.
Professor Saylani always answered any questions I had via email. The midterm and final and Integration Project are the biggest part of your grade! The work is easy just time consuming. Check Canvas everyday for his class. There is literally no way to not pass his class he gives plenty of opportunities to help students out. Watch the videos he post.
Took the 7 week class. Projects were done through SIMNet. Easy to follow but a bit of a learning curve if you're not used to Windows. Easy A if you do the work. Weekly lessons & projects, midterm, integration project, and a final exam. A few lectures were uploaded too, which I enjoyed. Some work was published late, but otherwise great class. :)
Saylani is a nice professor, and I find him funny. If you have some programming experience this class is a breeze. Plenty of extra credit, most of your grade is the midterm, project and final. He is definitely not bad like the ratings say. If you actually practice and study C, this class is an easy A. Lectures could be better though.
His class was very unorganized and said many times he does NOT teach from the book, which was true. He sends A LOT of announcements that you have to keep up with. 3 Hours of class, barely covers the material needed, and then uploads a 1-2 hour video you need to watch called "supplemental sessions". Does NOT give extensions, even when sick.
He was a great professor. He responds to emails quickly and provides good feedback to improve. There were a total of 5 assignments and quizzes that were graded in addition to a midterm and final, which had to be taken on campus. He provided many practice assignments which were not graded but allowed for more feedback.
Saylani is funny and the lectures aren't bad. 70% of your grade is midterm and final and another 20% is a project. He offers extra credit in all things. If you want to get a good grade in his class, make sure you email him A LOT. He wants you to do well and responds very quickly. If your already good with programming, easy A. otherwise, good luck
his classes are very relaxing and it feels like bein cooped up in a treehouse on your computer at night taking them. get a cup of coffee and maybe have the tv on a low volume so u can still hear everything he says. he goes over everything thoroughly and hand draws diagrams and such; its very easy to keep up. highly recommended.
He literally gets distracted many times and goes on tangents that dont matter half the time. He gives way too much homework too, and it feels like he doesnt care enough sometimes, like he doesnt give enough studying resources other than access to another seminar. Like flashcards, kahoot, etc. could be useful just saying.
Professor Saylani's reviews have been mostly correct. He does go on tangents and does have lots of homework, however, he does care about TEACHING students. He will take as much time as you need to explain something, even one on one. While I didn't enjoy the long drawn out recorded (online) lectures, I did like his sense of humor and funny drawings.
