Dr. Sinkaset is an awesome professor. He knows so much and he has his PHd at such a young age. His work is always clear and it is easy to succeed in his class. Very fun class. Definatley recommend him.
Easily the best Chemistry Professor I have ever had, and believe me i have had a lot. He really makes you feel comfortable in Class and makes sure everyone is getting good value for their money.I definately recommend this Professor, take him,if you are thinking twice you are just wasting your time..yes, he is that GOOD !! Thanks Prof.Sinkaset
i like his sence of humor, keeps studends interested
I hate chemistry but when I came into this class, I actually really like it. His class is enjoyable & most definately the best teacher for chem. Great sense of humor while teaching & likes to interact with students. Take his class!
He's got really hard tests so prepare to study a lot. Don't get behind in the class and you'll be fine. He knows what he's talking about.
I think I want to take this class just for fun after reading how great of a professor he is. Great job
He's one of the best chemistry lecturer I've ever had. He knows his stuff, very knowledgeable and goes by the rules. Make sure you have your stuff together and prepare ahead of time for lab. Never wear shorts or slippers (open toe shoes) to lab, he will send you home.
Excellent professor. Knows his chemistry. Willing to assist students with any questions and concerns. Make sure you do your homework and study, because he is not easy. Definitely take him, you will learn alot. He also has a great since of humor.
Wow what can I say? This class makes you grow, fast. You learn to study chemistry and he's open to ALL questions. A bit of a warning though. I took this class along with bio210b and it was almost like running a race without a finish line. It's tough, but the professor is great. When you turn in your final, you can't believe it's finally over.
Dr. Sinkaset is 1st and foremost a wonderful person as well as one of the best chemistry profs I have ever met. I've had many science courses but I must say that his class is by far my favorite. The course is tough but he makes it easy. If you keep up with the work, you'll succeed. He is so helpful. Dr.Sinkaset ROCKS! Take his course for chemistry!
Hard class, really nice prof. Sinkaset is a really engaging professor. He spells it out for you and doesn't leave you in the dark. Extremely helpful. I recommend anyone to take Dr. Sinkaset!
Prof Sinkaset is so great that I feel like I have the urge to recommend him to every single person who's going to take CHEM. He's nice, helpful, and extremely patient. He makes you not only NOT afraid of asking question, but love questioning, which enhences learning. You'll become a good student full of curiousity if you take his class.
He is a good teacher, but the test is hard unless you try your best. He doesn't make example before class, so it's required that you know what will do for the lab. As soon as you finish the lab,you find it's very wonderful.
I dont recommend this professor, difficult class. He does not prepare you for the exams at all.
He never shows anything in lab. So it's required to well prepared at home. If you choose Chemistry as your major, he is the best one to help you to work independently like a scientist. But you want to finish class as GE, don't take this class.
I dont recommend this professor. He does not prepare you for the exams at all.
the best chemistry teacher that i've ever had by far!!!
this is a lower division class but he acts as if hes teaching chem 700. Cool off guy. exams are way too difficult.
He is a great teacher. HOWEVERRR, his tests are rediculous. Hardley anyone gets A's, let alone passes them. I got two high A's on the first 2 tests and a D on the third and couldnt get an A in the class
He is a difficult teacher for some, but his powerpoints are well documented and remove the need for a textbook. It is possible to get an A in the lecture and definitely one in lab as long as you keep up with the lab reports, as procrastination will definitely show on your grade. Highly recommend this teacher if you want to transfer to a four year.
You probably wont be the smartest person in the room when Dr. Sinkaset is around. He definitely knows what he's talking about. He is always available and is extremely helpful. His exams test your understanding of the material, so don't expect a lot of "cookie-cutter" questions. Attendance is mandatory. Everything on the exams was taught in class.
Chem 201 is harder than 200. That's why he requires more effort to study it. I think he did a good job to make everything clear. When you leave this class, you are able to know what you learned rather than your grades. The way he taught is the way you need in university.
Good teacher if you have a strong understanding for chem already. Exams are IMPOSSIBLE to pass if anything lucky to receive a D. This course especially with this teacher expect to spend ALOT of time with chem! 3 HARD EXAM, online hw due every week, and final
much harder than chem200. A lot of work. everything is your work. He is just there to read the PowerPoint and answer some questions. The lab manual is really confusing. Sometime you don't even know what are you supposed to do for your lab report. some lecture exams are ridiculous.no extra credit, wanna get A you gotta get at least 89%.
Amazing teacher, clearly knows what he's teaching, and extremely passionate that you know it, too. Strict and demanding, but very reasonable. Loves questions, gives helpful study guides and review sessions before each exam. Also involved in the Science Club--overall, a very cool guy. Highly recommend as long as you're determined and not lazy.
Challenging class but very doable if you actually put the time and effort into it. This is not an intro class and he does not treat it as one. The class is designed to challenge you and most definitely will prepare you for tougher classes down the line. Very fair and knowledgeable professor.
One of the best Professors at Miramar College. He makes chemistry very interesting, and almost everything is on his slides. His tests are challenging, but if you put in the work to read over his slides before class, and do the homework, you'll get the results that you want. I would recommend this professor to all my friends
Great teacher! Makes learning Chem easy. Attendance is not mandatory to lecture. Lets you turn in lab reports late if you have an excuse. Make sure pre-lab is done before Lab though. If you want to LEARN Chem and have it shown to you easy, take him!
very hard teacher but very knowledgeable and eager to help.
I had Dr. Sinkaset for both Chem 200 and 201 and he is by far the best chemistry professor that I've ever come across. Chem201 really is much more difficult than 200 as he says but all of the work is set up so that you can grasp an understanding of all the concepts. I would recommend Dr. Sinkaset to anybody that wanted to learn chemistry! :)
By far the BEST teacher i have ever had in my life as a student! He makes chemistry fun! i actually enjoyed his class, lab are a bit challenging in chem 201 but he is willing to help you anytime you ask! i used to email him whenever i had questions on hw and he will reply immediately even if i sent the question 11pm! BEST CHEM TEACHER EVER! :)
160pt final, 20 multiple choice questions worth 2pts each. and 120pts for 4 problems :)
Lecture notes were extremely well organized and available for students to download. Attendance not mandatory, but there was no reason to miss class since there was lots of good extra material presented, and the lab section was immediately afterwards. If you want to UNDERSTAND inorganic chem, this is the class and professor to take
I really enjoy taking his class. He's definitely one of the best teachers on Miramar campus. If you're planning on taking his class, I recommend you wait until you get to his class before you decide to purchase the book because most of his assignments are MasteringChemistry. And, he is very clear what he expects and. Just do what he asks.
Not gonna lie, his class is pretty freaking hard. If you want to experience just a taste, just a sliver of UCSD's standard level of Chemistry teaching, take his class because he used to work there. Just a heads up, NO MERCY. But besides that, he is an AWESOME teacher and does anything he can to help, even if it is extremely difficult. Great class!
I liked him quite a bit. He is certainly not trying to make the class easy, but he pushes you to understand the material. I am a chemistry major so I'm very happy I took his class. I recommend him highly for lecture. You will come out of the class understanding chemistry better, and more prepared to move onto the next chemistry class.
Do not mistaken him for your previous chem teacher. Sinkaset offers the support and knowledge you need to understand this class. His tests are straightforward, slightly tricky, but doable nonetheless. Devoting your time to understanding the material makes the class, teacher, and test so much easier to handle. Highly recommended.
I had a very difficult time with his tests. They are very tricky and require complete understanding. If there is one thing you do not understand concretely, good luck! If you like chemistry you are in good hands. Homework is helpful and lectures are very important, miss one and it will show.
He's a very difficult grader and not flexible at all. He made beginni chemistry scary and confusing. Does not articulate well. Good luck if you have to take him, but you should try to take someone who would make science fun & easy to understand.
Sinkaset is an excellent chem prof. his powerpoint lectures are straightforward and clear. hw are assigned and done on mastering chemistry , very easy to get full credit. however, his tests are pretty tricky. if u want an a for this class u need to really READ and understand every single piece of info in his powerpoint. easy B
Dr. Sinkaset is a great professor, I recommend him! I never had as much interest in chemistry as I do now. His tests are difficult but fair and I felt extremely accomplished to get good grades on them. He's a really helpful teacher who wants to really learn this stuff!
I was scared because I've always heard that Chemistry was hard, but after taking him, I feel really great about future Chem classes. MEMORIZE power points. Only did half the homework and half the reading. I smoked all three exams and aced the final. Easy A just as long as you MEMORIZE power points.
I hated Chem before I took his class, but now I fully like it because of his class. Take his class. He's a really nice prof. The tests are really simple with bonuses if you write completely. If you just read the power points, do the homework you'll be fine. I recommend to take lab with him as well you'll just have 2 open book quizzes and a final.
doesn't care about his students too much, but he will take the time to explain a concept. His tests are pretty tricky(what you learn in class is intensified on the test), he is also very picky with spelling and numbers which was a killer for me on every test. if you want to get an A, or even a B you have to commit ALOT of your time to this class
Teacher was strat to the point. First two weeks he cares about attendence but after that doesnt. All lecture slides are are pretty much exactly from the book text. For test know you definations terms in the book, and all equations. I recieved C and D on tests but the online h.w. saves you a lot so make sure you do it. Otherwise a chill class.
Prof. Sinkaset is a good professor. His lectures are concise and very clear. Unfortunately his tests were tricky and full understanding of material is required. Normally with the effort I put in I would have gotten an A but because of the tests I got a B.The online homework is helpful.
He is a very hard grader and his tests are very tricky and ridiculous. AVOID taking him. There's a lot of students who are retaking chemistry.
Chem 200 is a tough class and sinkaset made it harder than it should be. His tests are HARD and he never has the time to help his students. Good luck if you are taking him.
This class was hard.
Sinkaset is a nice professor, but he has no empathy for his students. Of course its college and you have to work hard, but this class was really hard. I was taking Chem 200 , Bio 210A, and Physics 180A this semester and I studied for this class the most because it was the hardest.
I've never worked so hard for a "C" I'm so glad that I didn't take him for lecture.
Dr. Sinkaset is clear, to the point and fair. Good sense of humor. Online homework is tricky. Tests are really challenging, and require material comprehension. Enjoyed lecture, wish I would have taken lab with same professor.
He's incredibly smart but there's no leeway with him. As someone once said to me, you can learn chem the easy way, or the Sinkaset way. Pro is his practice exams. Con is he's condescending in his replies and the toughest grader ever.
Poor quality in teaching! His lectures are more like the history of chemistry. He assigns mastering chem homework but doesn't even teach us how to solve (AT ALL!) and he mumbles so you never understand him and he blocks the board a lot so you can't see what he's describing.
Dr. Sinkaset is a great professor. Lectures are clean and clear, and he provides the class with sample problems prior to explaining a topic. Mastering chemistry homework is easy. Study hard for the tests.
Sinkaset is awesome! Really knows his material. Great sense of humor. Anytime I had a question, he was always willing to help. And TRUST, I had alot of questions. Yes he can be a strict grader at first but you get used to it.
Probably the worst Chem professor in the history. He goes by PPT really fast and skips a lot, then the skipped part shows up on exams. He even grades HW online. No extra credit. He took off point because I spelled sodium with capital S. then took off another points because I left calculation on the paper. wow. No one gets A, believe me.
Sinkaset's class can be tough; I missed 1 lecture and almost died, but was able to catch up with a lot of studying. Btw, he CLEARLY states that he will automatically subtract points on misspellingcapitalization, so pay attention. Don't be afraid to ask questions; he'll definitely try to help you out. Cracks jokes in lecture & is down to earth.
Attend class, however in 152 you can probably skip days and be ok. Chem 200 is just like 152 but expanded. If you attend lectures and listen you will probably get an A. Tests are tough, he loves his sig figs. I think he is a pretty funny guy. His anecdotes are pretty funny.
Great prof. He actually explains concepts and challenges you to think WHY?. This is something that students should actually appreciate because knowing why and having a strong foundation is crucial in understanding chemistry and upper division science classes. Tests and hw are kinda hard so you actually have to study and attend lecture.
The good: Sinkaset is knowledgeable, entertaining, and communicates clearly. The bad: tests are a nightmare. Full of tricky questions and exceptions to the rule. Strict grader - will dock points for even capitalization mistakes. Know your sigfigs or lose a full letter grade. Take him if your major is Chemistry, otherwise find someone easier.
Test are difficult and very long,Its a two part exam, you take the first part one day and the other part the next day,No partial credit, Lecture is only power points, he goes through them very fast, Homework is not related to the exams, Equations and constants are not given and are required to be memorized for every exam, AMAZING professor
I have never taken chemistry not even in hs, however Prof Sinkaset made this class so easy for me. His exams on the other hand demoralized me afterwards. He's a great professor would take him again but his exams you need to work for it otherwise you will fail or barely pass. I asked him lots of questions and he would always answer them clearly.
I had Dr. Sinkaset throughout my General Chemistry series simply because he is a great educator. Yes, he does have a tremendous workload in regards to lab assignments and homework. However, his scheduling is reasonable and flexible, will answer questions that pertain to material and gives helpful feedback so that a mistake can be rectified.
He lectures and goes. He talks fast, and his tune slows down as he gets to the end of sentence. His exams are hard and two parts. I wouldn't say he is amazing but for the sake of lake of one good professor in that district, I would say he is good. He has been over rated thou.
He's really chill, really good teacher. But his tests are tough, I tried really hard, we formed study group, but his tests are really hard and he is a tough grader also. If you wanna challenge yourself, go for it.
He's a good teacher. He explains the material well. Unless you're really good at chemistry, don't skip his class or you will be lost. His tests are difficult, especially if you're not good at chemistry & skip class often. Never skip the online homework because it's an easy 10% of your grade to earn.
Sinkaset encourges students to think "why" during his lectures. He makes chemistry interesting. His exams which consists of only 3 are full of tricky MP questions and 5 free response which will either make you or break you. Make sure you know the material and can handle it being interpreted to you in many different ways during tests.
Chem 200 L with Sinkaset was calming compared to his lecture. His lab is pretty straightforward. He does expect a Prelab, Data,Observations, Calculations and Results all due before you walk out of the lab (before you go home). He gives extra time when he notices that a generous amount of students did not finish. 3 exams. Drops lowest lab score.
Spends a lot of time lecturing about abstract concepts that you will not be tested on. Each type of problem is glossed over, and then the test questions are nothing like what he covered in class. The homework has NOTHING to do with lecture or the tests yet still affects your grades. The average on the exams 57, when it should be 70. No curve.
He's a good professor mostly, he's a little scary but nice. The material is really hard, if you work really hard and you're smart you'll be ok. If you're not the brightest you're gonna have to step up and focus a lot; tests feel impossible and lectures are really intense
He seems like a nice enough guy outside of class but as a professor, he's unprofessional and not very helpful at all. Instead of answering straightforward questions he will retort "that you should have learned that in 152". Somewhat demeaning. You pay for online homework that doesn't correspond to the impossible exams. Total GPA killer.
Sinkaset really knows his chemistry, is good at teaching and is patient. You will definitely need a solid grasp of the concepts, rote memorization simply will not work (for any chem). He is willing to work with his students and takes plenty of time to answer questions. My only complaint is the online lab manual because it's very time consuming.
Professor Sinkaset is a high quality professor. I had him for 200, 201&201L. You must earn your grade in his class but, he is not intentionally difficult. His tests demand that you know the material. He has been my favorite professor of my college career and caused me to switch my major to chemistry. He tells great stories and is a nice guy!
He's nice and very helpful when you ask questions. If your an average student who doesn't have a invested interest in Chem your going to struggle. Only those who are really passionate about Chem will do well. LOTS of critical thinking questions on his tests, your going to have to go above and beyond for studying his tests, cause they are ruthless.
I had this professor for CHEM 200 and 201, both lecture and lab. He really knows his stuff, is organized, and he can teach well. Tends to get a little behind with grading about mid-semester, but he's happy to let you know how you're doing if you ask. Best chemistry professor I've ever had. Take him if you want to actually learn chemistry.
Super knowledgeable and passionate about chemistry. Exams are tough, but nothing too crazy. Any time somebody has a question he will answer it immediately and to the very best of his ability until the concept is properly grasped. Pretty nerdy guy but you can tell how comfortable he is in chem, and is highly regarded as an instructor.
Great professor if you actually want to learn. I took the same equivalent course(s) at UCSD and his are on par with the level there (first test he gave was even harder than most of my gen chem classes at ucsd, but never went to lecture). You really have to go to class to get A's on the tests, but gives a lot of partial credit and there's little hw.
This professor actually knows the material and explains it very well if you ask him questions and does seem passionate about the subject. In terms of grading however he is quite tough. He isn't very lenient on partial points and keeping track of your grade in his class is nearly impossible unless you visit him and it is quite a nuisance.
Professor Sinkaset is an amazing professor. He knows how to explain the material really well. This spring semester, we had to switch to online classes and Professor Sinkaset made a great effort to work with the students. He tried to make sure that we understood the material. His tests are difficult but the math problems are like the ex from lecture
Dr. Sinkaset is very good at explaining chemistry materials and he's ready to answer any of your questions about the lesson. During the quarantine, the class is converted to remote class which is not a problem at all. Professor shared that he has not taught online before, but he really does a good job of teaching the rest of the course's materials.
Professor Sinkaset's class is quite hard, but he is always available in office hours if you need help. If you do not understand a concept, he is very understanding and patient. There are 3 tests, weekly quizzes, and 3 group projects. The tests are hard, but there is a fat curve on the final. Overall, it was a great class, and I would recommend it.
This is actually the most clear and organized class I've ever been in. There will never be a question about your grade, but you really really have to work for it. The material is difficult and the exams are difficult. Barely any extra credit, no dropping scores. Not much homework. Quiz every week. 3 group projects. (This is for online class).
He is incredibly hard, for tests he never gives enough time. It is always maybe 90s per question so you have to blaze through. The weekly questions are fine but he is a stickler for how long it takes you to submit the work. He will give you a zero if it isnt in the 10 mins.
Chem 200 partially online-BIG NO- it was hard to manage doing the work on my own and then taking the exams in person. Spring 2022 semester had the lowest grade averages with Sinkaset's the lowest (was also the only online class). Other professors had safety nets while Sinkaset watched his class fail. Seems like a nice guy, only met him 3 times tho
Great professor and person, he is really easy to talk to and is a funny guy in class. The only thing to beware of is grading. Your entire grade is based off 3 tests, a few homeworks, and the ACS final. It was very difficult to pass this class simply because i suck at tests, the material was difficult, but nothing impossible. Decent class overall.
Half way through when half the class drooped out he gave out free points just to keep his students. After that point he no longer helped on labs at all. He said there is something in here find out what it is. That's it no help no answers. Exams, after 12+ hours of studying 3 out of 20 questions were recognizable. Do not recommend.
I have to say there was quite a bit of immaturity from the end of this professor and I often felt him to be flirtatious with other female students. A definite lack of professionalism and a very unclear grading criteria for his labs. I would advise all chemistry courses to be taken with anyone else or at Mesa college.
Good structure to the class, however wish he spent more time walking through practice problems. The tests were tremendously difficult, but he does give practice exams which were similar. His lectures were okay but I always needed to find other youtube videos to help me understand everything. If I could go back I'd just take this course in person.
Dr. Sinkaset is above average for the lack of a better word. He means well. teaches well. All in all he is alright, may be wiser to take the course in person.
I wasn't a fan of many aspects of his course. I also don't like the way our final exam was formatted.
Professor is unreasonable and inflexible when it comes to going over questions or asking for help. Tests are absurdly hard, unnecessarily long, and insanely heavily weighted. Will take off points for formatting, but the format of his exams are messed up and unclear. Take any other professor if you can.
This course compared to other chem courses was difficult mostly because it was online. The material on the study guide had the same general concepts and questions as the actual exams.
I regret taking him. His lectures made no sense, leaving me to teach myself the material. I even sat in on other professors lectures to learn since Sinkaset can't teach properly. His exams were very long and hard. All for the final to have different material since it was a standardized exam. Do not take this class unless you like suffering.
Though I find this professor to be immature, and runs his class levels above what is needed for an undergraduate class in a cc, he is alright. I likely would not take this course again if given the option.
I don't like the way this professor teaches the course. We are in undergrad no need for oversimplification. One thing I surely don't like his is immature attitude.
I love this professor and his passion for chemistry! Obviously don't take the class if you're not gonna study, and he gives multiple sample problems to make sure you understand. For homework and knowledge checks, he gives clear explanations on the choices if you get it wrong. His tests are difficult but that's what the tests are supposed to be.
This class was quite difficult for me, some people I know who took chem200 elsewhere noted that the material I was being taught was "overkill". His tests are pretty difficult and take time. The final is a very challenging cumulative standardized exam, and it dropped my grade one letter. I recommend looking elsewhere unless you're a chemistry major.
I would advise a person to think twice before taking a lab or a lecture with this professor.
If you did well in Chem 152 and are ready to learn a lot, Professor Sinkaset may be the best professor for Chem 200. His lectures delve into the material, the history, and are very practical with practice problems that are very comparable to those in the exams. He is a very funny professor and his lectures are great. Highly recommend.
