YOU CANNOT UNDERSTAND 1/3 OF WHAT SHE SAYS. If you plan not to pay 100% attention in class, do not take this professor. She is very hard to understand. She moves very quickly throught the material, and hates to stop to answer questions or clarify material.

She really knows what she is talking about, but it is very hard to understand what she is saying. Tests are kind of hard, but most of the questions are similar to the quiz or previous exams she has given.
Stay away from this woman. She's very difficult to understand and makes the tests absurdly hard. The lectures are wildly boring because she just draws ten million charts. This class is terrible.
This class was a major bore. Dr. Chou could make horny teens fall asleep during sex-ed. It probably didnt help that the topic she chose for us was Banking Regulation...that says a lot right there.
Terrible, i had to drop the class after 3 weeks. We had to turn things in by email and she lost mine and wouldnt give me credit. She is hard to understand and seemed to get confused easily
Very difficult to understand
Not a good, but fairly easy teacher. Open book/note quizzes, exam questions are similar to those on quizzes. Wildy boring, yes, but an easy teacher.
If you show up for most of the classes, you will be fine. She uses the book and the PowerPoint notes by the author, but throws her own stuff in too, so it's important to be there. She can be hard to understand. Ask questions. She gives 7-10 pop quizzes, but only five toward the grade. Sometimes she gives an optional 4th exam.
Not very clear at all. Her teaching technique is completely textbook. She skipped the stock market section of our class which I thought was something important for us to learn.
VERY CONFUSING, I WON'T RECOMMENDED TO ANYONE. HER TESTS ARE EXTREMELY HARD AND HER LECTURES ARE BORING AND CONFUSING.
Allow me to give you the REAL information on this professor. Yes, she does have a strong accent. BUT she is still easy to understand. She is a tough professor, dont count on extra credit...it doesnt exist. But she gives 7 quizes and only counts 5. You have to pay attention and study to do well. But what kind of student are you if you dont?
Her class is really not that bad, unless you hate showing up to class.
The class is fairly easy and she grades fair, but she can be extremely rude and unapproachable. I recommend her, but I wouldn't encourage anyone to ask her questions about the material. Figure it out on your own.
I would disregard all comments about her being hard to understand. At no time did I have trouble understanding Dr. Chou so I'm guessing most of these comments were posted long ago. She also knows the material better than any teacher I've ever had.
I have taken her for both 201 and 202, and have never had trouble understanding her. She isn't super helpful if you ask her for help one on one, but she posts old tests on Blackboard and recycles those questions along with quiz questions. Quizzes can be hard, but if you study them before the tests you will do well on those.
Although Dr. Chou isn't that difficult to understand, she is incredibly inconsiderate and cold. Earlier this spring my friends dad passed away and she said that it was his fault he missed the quizzes. She may grade fair, but she's heartless and cares about no one.
Hard to understand and not helpful when asking questions. She doesn't understand English very well.
Firstly, she has ridiculous ways to deduct points. Homeworks are sent online and if it's not it ".doc" form she deducts points. If you change the spacing on the homework, that's another deduction. She was very condescending whenever you ask questions. I suggest not to take her unless it's mandatory.
Very hard teacher! not matter how much you read the book you still won't kow what is going on. I went to every class, went to reach, and read each chapter and still made D's. Class average usually around a 60. Aweful prof. DO NOT TAKE HER!!
This class is incredibly hard. She knows what she is talking about, but she doesn't know how to teach. Every question on the tests are trick questions. Good luck...but I would say drop it. I'm a straight A student with a C-.
Expects students to completely comprehend the text because when you ask her a question she looks as though her head will explode. Not approachable at all. She is easy to understand in person but I found many instances of broken English in test questions. By sheer luck and a curve I managed to pass her tests. Avoid her if you can
Avoid this professor. She is very hard to understand, and does not help the students. Her test are difficult and there is usually more than one right answer, but she is never wrong. The only way I am passing is with a tutor. She has tenure, and doesn't care about the students.
She is a very hard teacher. If you want an A expect to study for many hours and to put a lot of time into the class. Lots of questions come from past quizzes or practice exams on line. Go to class, because her notes will help.
I've had her for two classes, got A's. Not hard to pull off. If you don't know jack about econ, you might have trouble but a little effort and you can do it either way. Accent isn't nearly as bad as what has been let on here. Plenty of WSJ articles give you some bunnies on the exams. I've had far worse teachers at UL. Especially in the COB.
Don't ever in your life take this woman. Horrible, mean, DONT DON'T DON'T. If you ask a question you will be treated like an idiot, not answered? Really, don't take her. AVOID. You will have to teach yourself everything.
She is a very easy and straightforward teacher. If you actually attend class and read the textbook there is no way you will get below a B. The questions she asks on the tests are from quizzes, which she goes over during class, examples she goes over during class, the practice test she gives out with answers, and the book.
Second class with Chou. I took 201 with her and did fairly well without much studying. In 302, it's just the opposite and I find myself struggling the more effort I put in. She has a moderately thick accent which sometimes leads to questions in class not being answered and points not clarified. Would not recommend.
Terrible. Read your book and try to take notes. good luck
By far the most boring professor I've ever had. Extremely hard to pay attention to, and the tests and quizzes are nothing alike. Not much of a curve. Most of it is from the book though. Attend class, read your book, and try to pay close attention. Good luck.
Worst professor I've ever had. If you can AVOID taking her, do it. This professor is difficult to understand, has awful hand writing (good luck reading her notes), on top of not being helpful and being rude when you ask questions she makes her tests difficult. We pay thousand of dollars in tuition for teachers like this. I am shocked UOFL keeps her
Difficult to understand. Quizzes and test are nothing alike. Her notes are chicken scratch. Basically if you don't want your grade to drop don't take her.
Oh my goodness.... Worst teacher ever. Since the university of Louisville doesn't care about the quality of your education just try to avoid her. Someone audit this class please. Don't just sit in on a class actually pose as a student then see what it's like being a student of hers.
Absolutely horrible professor. You can't even understand what she says half the time it sounds like she has something up her nose. Tests don't match up with notes or quizzes. someone fire this woman
She is awful. You cant understand her, and what you do understand makes no sense. I had her treat me unfairly three different times while I was asking for help. She even put me down because of my test grades when I told her i have been struggling. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
Cannot understand anything she says. Very hard class if you rely on lectures to obtain the information. Also, topics tested and information covered in class and in reading do not match up.
terrible teacher
Tests are extremely hard. I studied the study guides for exam #2 and Exam #3, I failed both. Its like she turns the questions around to make them difficult and confusing. Some of the questions are very arbitrary and relative.
Professor Chou may be a little difficult to understand, but this class is super easy! Quizzes are taken online and come straight from the chapter in the book. If you read the chapter 1 or 2x easy A. For every test she has a study guide which has the test laid out! Gives really big curves for each test and drops lowest test grade, best 3/4. Breeze!
One of the worst in the Business school. Professor is difficult to understand and will never go out of her way to assist anyone in need. Wrote on a previous test "See me if you need assistance" because I failed the second exam. I saw her immediately after the call and she told me "You're failing, I can't help you". Abhorrent behavior for a prof
She is the worst professor I have ever had. She has broken English and will not help you at all. She is rude and when you ask a question expect her to act like it was the worst question you could ever ask. Tests are very hard she does not give you any study materials. "Quizzes" are worth just as much as her tests 10 questions and 10 points each.
Professor Chou is knowledgeable on the topic of Microeconomics, but is not good at teaching it. No second chances in her class. Also, not a whole lot of people ask questions because she will just repeat what she just said without any other explanation.
Her accent is NOT that thick and she is an excellent teacher. I hate to see such negative feedback here. The content is dry and can be a little confusing, but Chou is definitely a great professor. She explains things clearly and repeats herself. Plenty of quizzes and exams to buffer grade, and she only keeps 8 quizzes and has a comprehensive final.
This has to have been the worst college experience i've ever had! The fact that she a thick accent can be worked through, but projecting your WRITTEN notes that looks like a childs hand writing is a problem. She explains things horribly even if you meet with her 1-1 and good luck with anything she talks about being on the exams!
Extremely hard to understand. Went to tutorstudy groups and still got a D in the class. Very hard tests and her old test online do not help at all. Would not recommend at all.
This professor does have some difficulty communicating in clear English, but do not let that be an excuse for scoring poorly in her class. Her lectures are mostly based upon the text, and they are not clearly laid out or planned as far as I can tell. Main problem: tests over material not directly taught or found in textbook.
She grades her quizzes inaccurately, just below the actual percentage. Since she drops the 7 lowest quiz grades, even if you are doing poorly, you still have a chance. What she teaches in her lectures is just review of what is in the book. If you study well and can easily make sense of the concepts in the book, then the class is unnecessary.
This teacher is a perfect product of someone who was brainwashed by acadamia. She has never worked in the real world, does not care about her students and the big problem with her is that the lectures and resources she gives are not consistent with the types of questions she gives on the tests. Dont take her lol
She is an absolute terrible teacher. She honestly doesn't care about her students success. The lectures have nothing to do with the tests, which are extremely hard. The only way to get through the class at least passing is to read the entire book.
I do not recommend taking her class at all. Her lectures do not teach you anything and test content is unclear. You can study practice exams and lecture notes she gives you for weeks up to a test and still fail because she didn't specify what you needed to know. When going to her for help it seemed as if she didn't care about my needs at all.
If you want to pass you need to just read the book religiously. Lectures are practically useless.... but go so you can find out what readings from the WSJ to read for the tests.
DO NOT take this class. It was my biggest mistake. Dr. Chou is extremely rude, her English is poor (which makes it hard to understand, especially on tests). I asked to meet with her, and she yelled at me, in front of other students, to tell me I had the lowest grade in the class. I have always been a good student, so her words were hurtful.
I know a good portion of her Macro students are failing. Tests have absolutely nothing to do with the material in the book and PowerPoints. Grading criteria is unclear. There's no understand for students and she could not care less if they pass or not. Do not take this class.
The worst teacher I have ever had in my life, and I am not exaggerating. Her lectures become confusing immediately and her tests are even more confusing. I knew the material exceptionally well but could never get higher than a C on them. I'm a straight A student and an Econ major so this just goes to show how awful it truly is. DO NOT TAKE CHOU
There's a reason she isn't allowed to teach here anymore and its because she truly doesn't care about her students and their success. She doesn't explain anything well at all. Her tests are very hard and have nothing to do with what she goes over in class. Emailed her for help and got no response. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HER!!!!!
The material that she "teaches" & her tests have no correlation. She is honestly the worst professor that I have had yet. If questions are asked in class, she quickly gets angry & irritated with her students.
She mostly lectures based on the textbook, however the way she explains it is downright confusing. The problems on the quizzes are easier than the ones on the test, and the format is a bit different as well. She loves equations, so get ready for that. She offered extra credit once to the class and when I tried to turn it in, she refused to take it.
Dr. Chou can be difficult to understand at times, but over the course of the semester you get more and more used to her accent. She assigns homework / take-home quizzes relatively often, and they are usually about the material she covers in class and the chapter that she is currently covering. Keeping up with the chapter is a good way to do well.
Chou is by far the most seasoned inexperienced professor I've ever seen. Just awful. Pros:Does a study guide for exams, just memorize what's on the sheet and the opposite outcome. Gives 5% extra credit when you turn in your exam after review. Cons: Lacks inspiration, sucks the positivity out of you. The HW is just tedious, but answers are on goog
Where do I even start. Lets start with if you have any other option. DO NOT TAKE HER! She is incredibly hard to understand, her lectures make zero sense, the tests are stupid hard, she gives these quizzes online that she doesn't teach the material to so good luck doing well on those when the content becomes more difficult. Please DO NOT TAKE HER
Let me start with a quote the day before the test. "Did we do this?" Class responds, "no." She continues with, " Okay, good. Lets move on." She simply doesn't teach. Her online quizzes are impossible because she teaches the material after its due. So people considering taking this class, don't. It's not worth the bad grade and headache.
She takes material from the University of Colorado, takes out the helpful info and doesn't give any answer keys for practice tests. So you don't know you're wrong until you take the quizzes or the exam. The material on the test and the textbook are nothing alike. I had REACH and my tutor had a hard time with the questions.
She has a heavy accent. During her lectures she often repeats herself, but at times quickly goes through important information. She does give a nice curve on the tests
Hard to understand, bad at explaining things. Many times a student had to answer questions she couldn't. Homework is easy weekly quizzes. Lectures are just powerpoints that she reads that can be found on blackboard. Class is hit or miss on importance. Should be an easy B with work. I skipped. I did poorly because I flunked out on the homework.
I will start off by saying that I could have put in more effort in this class but Professor Chou did not help that. She is hard to understand and her power points are vague and don't help a lot either. During exams students would have to point out grammatical errors to her and she would have to correct it on the board.
Absolutely awful. Horrible accent, makes you focus on trying to understand her rather than the material. Only reason I somewhat understood what was going on was bc I had to teach myself it by doing the homework/quizzes. I taught myself more than she did, look for another teacher when you take ECON202. Save yourself from this
YOU HAVE TO READ THE BOOK. Her lectures make understanding what you read the day before a whole lot easier. Show up to class everyday, trust me. Her English is not that bad; there are plenty of other professors that are worse. She is fair, and will prepare you for the real-world/grad-school grading.
I am a straight A student who got a C in this class. She is absolutely horrendous. Questions on the exam are worded so weird you dont know what shes asking. If you ask clarification questions in class she treats you like an idiot and still doesnt answer the question.
The exams are very hard. I tried studying different ways for every exam and always ended up with the same score . The lectures are not consistent with the type of questions she does on the tests. She is knowledgeable on economics, but is not good at teaching it.
Her English is terrible, you can't understand. I never got a C in my life but got an F. Do not take her class, she is terrible at teaching and I am sure she can never pass any of her tests if she takes one, just avoid a headache and an F, don't take her class
Very kind. Other than that, class is way too difficult for what it is. Grades are gradually released so you never really know where you stand unless you ask her. She doesn't really make sense in the lectures so you have to read the book to pass this class.
Dr. Chou is a good professor for an honors class. The class itself is well structured and you will do well so long as you use Cengage.
Don't take this class if you're not prepared to put in the effort. You MUST attend every lecture/take notes, read the textbook, watch the videos/do all the practice questions/quizzes on Blackboard, & study a ton for exams. In my opinion, the other ratings are way too harsh and her English is completely fine...but the class definitely isnt an easy A
You did the homework before the quizzes, and the quizzes before exams. The homework basically had nothing to do with the quizzes so you walked into the quizzes blind, and then used those quizzes to study for the exams. Lectures were very hard to follow. I essentially taught myself everything in that class.
First unit was 6 chapters with quizzes and assignments for each in 3 weeks. She posts videos for each chapter and the assigned chapter reading. If you do both it will take at LEAST 3 hours for a short chapter with the video and reading. Exams and quizzes are poorly written and way more difficult/different than the content covered.
This professor is the worst I've ever had. She has a mid-level grasp of the English language, does not want to help students who struggle, and clearly has no grasp on the basic tenants of what she teaches. Instead you'll get someone who is condescending being a gateway to most majors. Do NOT take her class and go with literally anyone else.
The only thing I liked about this class was it was online. Course materials require payment and a lot of it. Grades are just homework, quizzes, and tests. If you ask her something, she does answer It clearly and very detailed. It's a tough class, but if you use your resources then you'll pass :)
This class was easily one of the worst I have ever taken in my entire educational experience. She does not understand English well enough to educate anyone using it. Extremely rude and dismissive to students regarding her own failures, and the most concerning thing is that the University is AWARE! Stop sending evals on this teacher, and replace her
She's not a good teacher. She doesn't explain any material well, and she sucks at letting us know about deadlines. I would not recommend taking macro with her. She offers extra credit, but not enough to significantly help your grade.
Honestly, most of these reviews are disappointing. Professor Chou offers help inside and outside of class, and her English is not as poor as some of these reviews portray. She's very kind and this class is not easy by any means, but she does her absolute best to explain how the homework concepts connect to quizzes, test, and real world.
She goes ahead of the coursework in her lectures, making a disorienting class experience. The tests are extremely tough, the class is extremely fast paced. Expect 1-2 homeworks and quizzes each per week. The lectures are hard to follow so be prepared to take a lot of notes and do a lot of reading in your free time.
One of the worst professors I've ever had
Do not take this class unless you can teach yourself.
She was difficult to understand, none of her lectures made sense. I found the lectures useless, and I had to teach myself literally everything through k. Showing up to class was a waste of time. The homework was confusing and essentially useless because it did not relate to the quizzes at all. By far one of the worst professors I've ever had.
very nice, but terrible at teaching. her notes contradicted my tutor's intermediate economic notes. she was confusing and lectures were useless. teach yourself. great grading set up with extra credit opportunities and test points available over 100 so a curve each time. just do the homework and study the quizzes for the exams.
By far the worst professor I have ever had at the university. Please avoid her if you care about your GPA.
Very terrible professor and inconsiderate of students, she acts like this is the only class we are in and expects so much. She is very rude, and basically does not like to be bothered by us students. If you can avoid her, please do.
She is extremely rude and not open to help with things that may be hindering you outside of the classroom. She does not know how to teach and she is overly strict with deadlines as if we don't have other responsibilities in life.
