GREAT PROF.
Prof. Carr is truly amazing. She is engaging and knows her stuff. The class is actually pretty easy. There is homework but its only turned in every once in a while. She is very fair.
She's awesome. Really smart, very clear, and extremely interesting. Her tests are hard, but she curves it generously at the end of class. Also, if you participate daily, you can earn so much extra credit you can pretty much guarantee an A. I'll always recommend her.
she is the best professor in the law dept. very clar and willing to help. I'm taking her in another class this semester because I like her teaching so much
She barely taught anything in this class. It was all book cases, which I taught myself. I love blaw, but all she does is spend 20 minutes calling role for 150 person class, and interrogates you on everything if you want to IRAC the case. I went to class everyday, took notes and payed attention. Midterm and Final are somewhat fair if you had 3 hours
I learned a lot by myself. Test is hard but she will curve your grade. Attendance is mandatory.Homework: only 3 or 4 cases to turn in ( Credit or no credit); other cases she will call on you n if u're unprepared she would marked you down so it's your choice. Easy B but hard to get A unless u read everything in the book n do extra credit.
2 Tests all semester, so if you're not a "test taker" beware. Attendance everyday and nothing but briefing cases ALL class. Not the normal book with terms and definitions on what to expect on the test, you'll have to dig through the briefs and pay attention in class to get an A. A lot of work but you'll learn by the end.
No matter the proffessor this class will be hard. She tries to make it relevant by bringing up stories that relate to us & can be funny. Her tests (especially MC)are suuper hard with barely enough time, but she says she curves them. On tests, be specific! You learn a lot & it's great stuff to know for the real world. Definetly would take her again!
SHe is extremely rude! Every questions I asked she makes a sarcastic remark to. She does not help one bit. Extremely bitter person. Extremely RUDE to me for no reason.
Great teacher. Buy the book, you will definitely need it. She will explain a topic until you get it. 1 midterm 1 final. She's pretty straight forward. I recommend her.
Only midterm and final, nothing else than briefing case, it's all you do.and hard exam; 20 multiple choices in midterm, 40 multiple choices in final, and 2 case briefing in both. 1 hour for midterm,2 hour for final. not enough time you have to do it very fast. multiple choice questions are cases that you need to understand and answer in 1 min.
if you take her you will do average 5 IRAC essay writing every week. 1 midterm, and final. all you do is briefing IRAC essays. you have to read some materials that she will ask on exams from the book and learn yourself. And exams have limited time, you have to do it fast.
One of the greated professors ive ever taken. Being a Finance major, shes one of those teachers that make you think about switching majors. Keeps class very involved, you really have to read the book and practice the cases to pass the Exams, not a class where you can wing the exams or get away with if you put forward little effort. Enjoy
This is not an easy class, lots of material, but that's just the nature of the class. That being said, she is a great teacher, and very clear on what she wants from you. She'll tell you she never tries to trick you on exams, and she means it. If you read the book, do work and learn her ways, it won't be a difficult A at all. I enjoyed this class
Enthusiastic and demands involvement, but this class is HARD! Grade comprised mainly from midterm and final, where you are placed under a SERIOUS, SERIOUS time constraint. You MUST stay on top of ALL the reading and be a good "on the spot" essay writer to do well. Although she curves, the average student will be lucky to even pass the class.
Professor Carr is amazing. I have taken her twice now. Her class is relatively easy if you brief all the cases and read the book. She is very animated and makes class fun. She will let you out early if you finish the work early. Very reasonable grader. Overall, good class. I learned alot.
This class is really hard. The MC on the midterm and final are impossible to do good on no matter how much you study. While Prof. Carr is good at explaining the material she is rude, and her exams are a poor representation of what we learn in class. Relatively easy B, but hard to get an A unless you do a lot of extra credit.
She is a good professor who explains everything loudly and clearly. The problem is her exams are extremely difficult to do well in due to an extreme time constraint. On a side note, she is quite pretty and has an appealing vintage style.
Students don't give enough credit to Professor Carr. I've had her twice and she is by far one of the best professors on campus. You have to pull your load and study. Tests reflect material taught and are not impossible. A's are not impossible and B's are achievable. You will learn a lot in her classes! Really enjoyed classes and am not blaw major!!
She is very smart. She gives good feedback on previous exams. She is rude. Attendance counts and be on time. She will take off points.
This is a hard subject; however, she did do her best to make it easier to grasp. She does grade on a curve and her tests are fair. I would highly recommend her.
Professor Carr is awesome! she is my favorite BLAW professor by far. Entertainment law (and anything to do with contract law) is her thing, so there was never a dull moment in this class.
She is a very good teacher when it comes to explaining the subject. Classes go by pretty fast as she keeps them entertaining and the info she gives is really good. On the side though whenever I asked for help she was VERY RUDE to me. Twice she forgot to call my name when calling attendance and when I approached her she said I need to listen better
Attendance is mandatory. There are only a midterm and final that determines your grade. There are ONLY 200 points throughout the whole semester. Midterm and final consists of two IRACS and multiple choice questions that are exceedingly confusing. Do not recommend.
this class is absurdly difficult, just a midterm and a final, there is no way to prepare for them and do really well. there's not enough time in the final to do everything anyway. stay away from this class unless you don't care bout your GPA. I regret this
essentially, she fails you if you don't attend class. If you do attend and participate actively, you get an A. Little variation otherwise. Also rather rude when spoken with.
Attendance is mandatory. She's a tough grader and doesn't like stupid questions or unprepared students. Volunteer for a couple IRACS and you won't get called on when you aren't prepared (she knows the people that never volunteer) Tests are hard, but she makes the classes interesting. Write EVERYTHING on the tests, even if you think it doesn't apply
She is quite engaging and clear. The class is very difficult though. She is not an easy grader and very picky when it comes to briefing exam cases. Incredibly interesting lectures and extremely difficult exams.
She's a very fair teacher. She explains exactly what you need and don't need. I suggest you pay very close attention in class. She makes it very clear what will be on tests and doesn't play games or trick questions. You'll be fine if you show up, pay attention, and participate in class. Great teacher and explains very concisely.
Toughest grader I have ever had. She is not the best person to ask questions to, because she answers it with a question. Very strict and do not recommend her at all for this class. I do not recommend this professor for anyone
Really enjoyed what I learned in the class. Did not like the setup of working in a group the entire semester. She is a hard grader and will make you work hard, but you do learn a lot. Was really frustrated in the beginning of semester, but enjoyed the class as the semester went on. Just be ready to work hard for your grade.
Do not take her!! She's a HARD grader! And not only that, if she doesn't like you, you won't get a good grade period. The cases are very confusing but don't even bother asking her questions because she won't help you at all. Also, if your grammar is not perfect, DO NOT TAKE HER. Half of the grade in every assignment is on grammar. STAY AWAY!
She's much better teaching blaw. Beginning of the semester is incredibly frustrating because you will fail every assignment with little explanation as to why except that your grammar sucks. She can be very condescending to students but she does have good information. Starts to grade easier midway through. Only take if you want to work your butt off
This professor is a hard grader, and is very awful at answering questions. In this class you will use the IRAC method to do briefs, go to TUTORING FIRST!! She tells the class to make briefs that grandma can understand, then she marks you down because its overly simplified. SAVE YOUR SELF WHILE YOU STILL CAN!!!
Go to class everyday and actually engage in the lecture. She doesn't lie about how difficult the exams are. Grades on a curve but don't expect it to help you much. Reading the book is HIGHLY recommended.
This is not an easy class but she is a wonderful professor. Be willing to study a lot and attend all class sessions. Participate in class and visit her during office hours she is more than willing to help you. Her lectures are very entertaining and helpful. Only two exams, midterm worth 35% and final worth 50% and she curves them.
No one has ever made me feel so bad about myself as she has. I have never had a teacher make me cry before her.
Great Professor, she is very helpful as long as you are interested in the subject, read, study, memorize torts and contracts! Go to office hours, participate! IF SHE KNOWS YOUR NAME YOU ARE GOLDEN! one midterm, one final
First of all She is a working attorney. Attorneys in general are very abrasive and so is she. Her class is not easy but do able. I didn't read the book the whole semester and got a C solely based off of her lectures. She is extremely good at explaining law. You just have to put forth the effort. This is college and she is not here to baby you.
Best professor ever. She is intimidating, but I want to be like her. Her lectures are straight forward, and she does not trick you. She teaches you everything you're going to need to know for the midterm and final. I highly recommend taking her, if you're willing to put the work and effort.
Often condescending, usually brings up her experience in college when she suspects the class making up excuses (be prepared to hear, "when I was in college, I took 26 units and had a part time job"). She also does work as a lawyer, so she does know the material well and grades surprisingly quickly. Proceed with caution
Tough class. She wants her students to learn from what they are given. You can take alot from this class if you listen to what she has to say. She is a very successful person. You might fail a few times but just get back up. Class is based on group projects. Tough group projects. If you are hardworking than take the course.
Assigned groups based on ABC order and you can not change groups. Very tough grader. I failed the first few assignments and the only explanation was for grammar. About 12 way though the semester my grades started to improve. Be prepared to spend A LOT of time outside of class (5+ hours a week minimum). 4 group reports & 2 presentations.
Prof has her own law firm, so you know she knows what she's talking about. She doesn't do lectures; instead, she relies on students' participation to teach the lessons. She expects you to read and always be a day ahead. Fortunately, what you learn in class is exactly what is on the exams- no surprises. If you pay attention, you should be fine.
Gateway is tough overall, but Carr is even tougher. You will appreciate it all at the end of the semester. Until then, goodluck!
She was by far the toughest professor I've had this past semester but she was also my favorite. She'll make you work for your grade and by the end of the semester, you truly feel like you actually learned the subject. Beware, she may seem very intimidating but its for a good reason.
Professor Carr was by-far the most amazing professor I've ever had at CSUN!! She's straightforward with her lectures and she will not trick you. If you don't put in the time to read and brief the cases then you will not do well on the tests. You have to really put effort into the class but i would definitely recommend her to anyone!
Professor Carr is one of the best professors at CSUN to teach Gateway! She will prepare you for the business environment . Be prepared to give your best and embrace the amount of constructive opinion, it will help you to acquire one more asset in your professional development. Ask when in doubt. For presentations follow her tips on presence.
Professor Carr was the best professor I have ever had at CSUN. It's a tough subject but she makes it simple and easy to follow. You have to put in the effort and participate, but just follow everything she tells you to do. She sparked my interest in the subject and makes you want to learn. I would definitely take her again!!
You will learn useful information from her class but you will definitely have to work for your grade. Her class is simply 3 IRAC assignments, a midterm, and final. This is good and bad since there is not much work but if you do bad on one of those your grade is in jeopardy. Very tough grader, would recommend another professor.
Professor Carr will test your limits, but all of this is part of a master plan to make you a stronger candidate in the business world. Though she can be intimidating at times with her approach in lectures, don't hesitate to ask for help or advice, she is more then willing to help. Stay communicative with your group, and on target with your project!
This Professor grades EXTREAMLY tough. If you have ANY issues with grammar even issues you are not aware of DO NOT TAKE ANY COURSE with this professor. She will pick every paper you write completely apart, and basically make you feel as if you are literally the most stupid person to ever walk the earth. Questions, please she gives general answers.
She's an awful professor. She's not at all helpful, and she's not clear on how she grades the exams. This professor is one of those who wants to fail you and mess up your GPA. Choose another teacher if you can, you'll thank me.
Prof. Carr is great and makes everything easy to understand! it is your choice to earn the grade you want. only a few case briefs are mandatory to turn in, all of the others are your choice but should be done because that's what class is about every day. Clear expectations! I would recommend her, you'll be interested in the subject even at 8 am
Professor Carr is an amazing professor! She tells you exactly what is on the midterm/final and her homework assignments are credit/no-credit. She is very understanding and is always willing to answer any questions that her students may have.
Professor Carr is amazing! She is a tough grader, but she tells you from the beginning that she is tough. But she is also fair. She doesn't trick you on any exams, and explains to you exactly what she is looking for if you just ask. She explains everything very clearly, and is to the point. But you must also do the reading!
Professor Carr is very helpful and clear. This course was very fun to take, you have to work for your grade but everything is understandable.
Carr is a great professor! I would definitely take her again! I always looked forward to her class. If you show up to class prepared and take notes you will do just fine in her class. Read the chapters she assigns for the week and do the assignments so you can follow along in lecture.
No extra credit, no curve. If you fail, well that sucks. Very hard grader. Class is 20% of your grade so you miss 1 class, you loose about 2% of your entire grade. 3 briefs a week. The textbook she uses is structured horribly. Exams are just briefs . Constantly tells students that she's fair about her grading but doesn't really lectures. good luck
Constantly tells you she is fair on her grading but the quizzes are very hard. She is a tough grader! Her lectures are horrible because she doesn't provide anything. All we do is go over briefs in class. She doesn't really teach. Not even sure what all the rules are for each chapter. Try to avoid is you can. I regret taking this class.
Homework usually not turned in. Abrasive personality. Cuts students off when they answer. Difficult course. Although she is clear about what she expects from students, she is strict about grading. There is a curve in her class. But grading is subjective (says so on syllabus) rather than objective. DO NOT TAKE. WORST CLASS.
Professor Carr is terrible! She grades assignments without reading them (obvious from rubric notations), grades discussion assignments before they are due which leaves no room for continued learning, and is not responsive or helpful when questions are presented. She does not react well to student questions/challenges. Would NEVER take again.
She is a great professor, she goes over the material that might be on the midterm and final. She clearly tells you what she wants from you. She is straight forward, she tells you what she wants out of the class, as long as you do what she asks you will do well.
Currently taking her over the summer semester and love her. She's tough but fair and challenges you with every assignment. There are no surprises on the exams, and everything is covered in class. She expects you to come to class prepared and to participate as it helps with her discussion based teaching. If you want to actually learn, take her!
She is very knowledgeable. She is also very unclear in everything she does. Ask a general questions and expects you to know the precise answer. Does not make it easy to pass and gives zero guidance. You studied hard and think you did great, but end up failing. You reach out for help and she yells at you.
Straightforward class as long as you're consistent with her homework. She only has weekly homework assignments, one midterm, & final. No projects. Study material is the homework( Similar IRACs) & reading (MC questions difficult. She cares and will stop you from saying a mistake when participating. The law does not change, and wording does matter.
Her grading and expectations are straight-forward. Do your IRAC's the way she tells you to do them and you will do fine. Make sure you show up because attendance is 10 percent of your grade; plus, the midterms are similar to the cases you brief for class.
I don't recommend this Professor. Very tough grader and not considerate to her students. Lots of homework and participation matters. Skip class, and you won't pass.
I had her for Blaw 280 and I liked her so much I took her class again. This class is actually pretty easy if you do what she says. If you don't listen and go to class then you are going to have a hard time. Also attendance is a grade so you have to go anyways.
Learn how to brief cases according to her preferences and be prepared to discuss in class. Provides a lot of real-life scenarios, which helps you to understand the material more easily and makes learning more fun/interesting. You'll do a lot of reading in this class. Roll is taken every day and your grade is dependent on attendance, so show up.
Don't take this class with her if you have other options. She doesn't go extra step to help students to succeed. Grades really tough on papers and has an attitude when you ask questions.
This is probably one of the best teachers I have ever had. She genuinely cares about her students and is passionate about law. She knows how to explain the confusion of law to everyday college students. I know I was the youngest in the class (at barely 18) and even I could understand her explanations (but maybe that's because I kinda enjoy law).
Professor Carr is a good professor but for sure it is a hard class. There are about 3 briefs due every week and she is very specific about the way it is done or else you will lose points. She takes attendance every class so that can be a good or bad thing because it's free points. I would not recommend taking her if you can but she isn't terrible
Not memorable; just eh.
She can be condescending and sometimes completely rude. I would advise anyone if you can avoid her. I feel she is having some burnout issues.
PLEASE take professor Carr if you get the chance!! She's such a great teacher, very passionate about law and wants her students to be successful. Yes, she does call on you in class, attendance is mandatory, and there are a lot of cases to brief, but it's worth it. They say, a class is interesting if the teacher loves the subject? That's this class
VERY GOOD TEACHER 10/10 . Truly cares about her students and very easy to reach. She is really good at taking scenarios and teaching them in way that makes sense for everyone. The reading can be dense because it is law terms. Briefs are a pain but is part of the class. Unexpectedly really enjoyed this class, probably because of her.
I took this online accelerated negotiation class a few months ago. This class was actually interesting and I didn't have any trouble nor was this class very time consuming. I generally found this class to be useful as I still use what I learned even after a few months (wow, right?) Professor was nice, small negotiation exercises, take this class!
Just finished taking Professor Carr for two courses, BLAW 453 (this review) and BLAW 480. The 453 Negotiation class was the easiest A I've secured in all of my undergraduate career. She'll pull you once into a Zoom meeting and that's it for all semester, she doesn't prerecord any lectures so if that's how you learn I wouldn't recommend the course
Professor Carr is a great professor, she cares about the students that go and seek help. Her philosophy is that she can only help the students that care, so if you're hoping for a bump in grade towards the end of a semester you better show face. Her 480 class requires reading the large text book, no lectures, you learn the material yourself.
Terrible teacher, if you email her she almost goes out of her way to be rude and make you feel as dumb as possible. If I ever have a class with her again I will switch immediately. almost feels like she does not read your papers when you submit them, avoid at all costs.
Professor Carr is an amazing professor and she teaches the course very well. The assignments were based on briefs, quizzes, a midterm, and a final. The class can be difficult, but as long as you put in the effort in every assignment, you should pass the class. Take her if possible and good luck to those who are taking her in the future!
Overall I've taken Professor Carr for a number of BLAW courses at CSUN. For Ent. Law, since it was fully online she had no class meetings whatsoever. Which would at times feel like she was just giving us busy work to look over, 2 tests, a few discussion posts. Absolutely doesn't take any late work. She's a stickler when it comes to submitting work.
Class was fully online. Easy piecey right? WRONG..she's a tough grader. Read read read and read. Ask question . Overall i liked her class
Professor Carr is great at explaining legal terms in an easy to understand way. You do have to attend the lectures to pass the class and at times she can be blunt. But she wants you to pass and cares about her students. The writing assignments are called briefs and those can be difficult. Overall, you have to put in the work.
Take this class, just do it. I never took a law class before. This was my first class in person at CSUN. Only 5 briefs that we turned in, 2 exams with 2 questions each, and 5 short 15 minute quizzes. Each brief is ~1 page and can be done completely in class during lectures (she covers everything). Uses many real world examples. Funny & INTERESTING!
This class was really easy, graded by a few things. Make sure you go to class when she makes us do the negotiations. There is one midterm and a final paper. the homework she gives, you are able to do it in class. the final paper was easy, I finished it a day before it was due, just 3 - 5 pages for an analysis of negotiation from a show or movie
Professor Carr is probably one of the best professors I've ever had! She really makes an effort to make sure her students understand the material thoroughly. She also uses a lot of examples and lectures in a way that is conversational, which personally is more helpful when learning. She loves the subject and is a great professor!
Absolutely loved this class! It's important to go to her classes because she reviews cases from the textbook and explains torts that will be on quizzes + exams. She cares about participation but doesn't force or call on you to talk so no need to worry.
Makes the class super interesting. I never wanted to miss class because she's amazing. As long as you pay attention you will do great just don't fall behind. I really recommend her.
You can tell she's passionate about teaching and the subject. Be prepared to read A LOT. If you don't understand the material, lectures explain everything by connecting to real-world scenarios. Her feedback really goes a long way. Dont be affraid to ask for help, but you'll hardly need it, lectures pretty much clear any confusion.
One of my favorite professors. Super kind and makes business law understandable. Lots of reading though, given the class. There are little quizzes throughout the semester, 2 midterms, one final. No actual assignments other than writing the briefs. Highly recommend her, she makes blaw fun.
Engaging lectures, time flies like a good movie. DO EXTRA CREDIT, it gives 10 points while final was 70, makes a letter grade difference. Very strict, don't expect accommodations or exceptions, but very helpful when needed. Quizes are from home. Set up discord server and share notes, helps a lot. Listening in the class is the only way to pass.
Professor Carr is a great professor. She makes her lectures super clear and she uses real world scenarios to help you understand the law terms. You are going to ready A LOT but it is honestly not bad because she makes the class interesting. It is important to go to class because she explains all the terms in class.
appears tough and harsh but really isn't. if u get on her good side, its light. she's grades somewhat harsh but its cause she expects professional work ethic. the negotiations are easy and the tests involve them. midterms aren't that bad as they're about the negotiations and videos on canvas. final is an easy 5 page paper, very easy class to get by
This is a tough class. Torts and all that stuff. Lots of things to memorize. Professor Carr defintely makes things clear. She gives great real life examples, and implements some humor. Completely recommend taking this class over any other 280 course. Excited to take negotiation law in the future.
She was the worse teacher ever. During one instance when I approached her with a question, hoping for clarification, she inexplicably interpreted it as an attack. Instead of addressing my concerns with professionalism and understanding, she chose to publicly shame me by sharing the incident with the entire class, she made it very uncomfortable.
While the professor was extremely nice and caring, this class was so boring unfortunately. The book repeated the same question every single chapter. However, she was an easy grader and it never felt like a drag to go to her class. She had her moments of annoyance, but primarily due to students not reading the syllabus.
great prof! might seem a bit cold but if you show up, take notes, and do the briefs you'll do well on the exams. it's not going to be easy, but she is pretty straightforward with what she wants on exams/briefs and explains things in simpler terms. JUST PAY ATTENTION IN CLASS. if you put in the work you will see results
No idea why her score is so low. She is a great professor but just an overall tough class with lots of things to memorize. She teaches in a way to make it stick to your brain though, and as long as you attend the lectures and study for her tests you will do great. She also makes it obvious on what is going to be on the test beforehand.
Extremely picky with punctuation and capitalization even in canvas quizzes and grades the exams very hard since they are all essay. Hard class to pass if you can't memorize a lot for tests.
Very difficult class, if you ask a question you better have all the information ready to follow up because she will ask you several questions back. She scheduled guest speakers unrelated to the class completely to talk about basic things such as Sexual harassment and Eating disorders speakers took up 20-45 minutes talking.
Carr's BLAW280 is no easy feat, but her engaging lectures and real-world examples make it bearable. Lots of reading, but attending class is key. unstuck study was a lifesaver for exam prep.
Great professor! One of the toughest so far, but just and fair. She gives great feedback and does not ask anything of you could not do. Just follow her instructions and you'll pass. Carr is really knowledgeable and if you have a question, she most likely has an answer. Don't try to cheat and give some AI generated HW, trust me, you will get caught.
Attendance is required at the start of class; A part of your grade is based on a few small assignments, and the rest is based on the tests. You should memorize the laws and the factors/requirements in order to implement such a rule. If you don't, you will be severely marked down. No lecture notes, you need to be prepared at the time of class.
As a graduating student, I'm extremely disappointed. The professor refused to help with assignments or offer support when I was at risk of failing, even after I explained it could jeopardize my graduation. I felt ignored and unsupported during a critical time. This lack of empathy and guidance was unacceptable.
Professor Carr seemed uninterested in teaching or supporting her students. She was unapproachable, gave minimal feedback, and created a discouraging learning environment. It felt like student success was not her priority.
