TUFF! But Incredibly Interesting!!!
she is okay but i am surprised that she rated so good on this i say she is average
No Comments
She is full of information and stories but her tests can be challenging and you MUST know all the information. the study guide sheets are very helpful
The class is interesting and she's really helpful. But attendence is needed because there is so much information given in the lectures, it's hard to catch up if you miss class.
She talks fast and everything she says is important and relevant. You are required to do a research report and a book review if you want to get an A. If you don't do either it's impossible to make higher than a C. She lets you ask questions before test but makes you feel like an idiot when you ask.
Mrs Biehler can be a hard teacher if you dont pay attention to the lectures. Most of what is on the tests she gives is covered in class so it is very important to attend. She will also add points to your final if you dont miss any class. Expect to write a lot if you want to get an A or B.
LOTS of note taking involved. Tests can be tricky - they include short IDs, essay-type answers, and multiple choice questions. Attendence is essential - she give 2 extra points for it though. Overall a very interesting class. She knows her stuff!
Gives timed test that are hard to complete. You have to study your ass off!
Very interesting, but tests are timed so it can be difficult to complete. Most of what is on test is given in lecture.
Tuff!!! But overall a great teacher.
take you book to class but dont read it, she will tell you what she wants from you
Don't take her class. I'm serious. She's not one of those professors who makes the class interesting.
She keeps the lectures very interesting and lets you know EXACTLY what she expects from you. Her tests are hard and timed, but she gives out a study guide that has 50% of the test questions on it. If you like history and are willing to put in the work Biehler is an excellent choice.
The trick to getting an A in her class is recording her lectures and taking notes. She does talk fast, so that is why you need to record her lectures. She covers all the information you need in the lecture. So if you don't like reading the textbook, take her class.
Overall was an okay professor. Her lectures go by fast so I recommend bringing a laptop, tests are pretty difficult but if you go over them before hand during her office hours you'll do better.
I do not like Ms. Biehler's grade policy. You must complete a research paper and book review to make an "A", and she tells you that. However, the way she carries it out is arbitrary. What happens if your average is a 95 for all the tests and you do nothing else? Does she just drop you to a 79 automatically? I don't recommend her.
She's really funny and keeps lectures fairly interesting, but tests are ridiculous. I am normally an A/B student, but pulled straight Cs on tests. If you're like me, feel lucky that she requires a book report it saved me from making a C.
Have to study hard for the tests! If you ask a question in class, expect sarcasm. Lectures are interesting, but go by fast. Take lots of notes!
she can be helpful if you stay on top of everything. i wouldnt advise anyone to take her class if they do not have a lot of free time for her work and studying.
her grading is not fair, you to turn in a research paper and book review to make an A, expect a rude attitude, lectures are way toooo fast, some students that are straight from high school have a very hard time with her class, do not recommend
I am taking her class right now. If you want to pass the class you HAVE to attend EVERY class. The only good thing about her is that she lets you re-test. Her grading is not that fair, but whatever. Overall, she is OK. If you do not have a TON of time to study and do research papers DO NOT take her class. Hope this help! Good Luck.
She talks REALLY fast through the lectures and her grading policy is ridiculous. She's also anal about getting up to go to the bathroom (she'll yell at you when you come back) and if you have to leave early (she'll ban you from attending the next day). I wouldn't recommend this teacher to anyone. Ever.
Make sure you take notes!! Lectures are quick and not very detailed. But everything on the test is from the notes. And if you miss a day, get the notes from a friend NOT the teacher.
The first test, half the class failed. FAILED. There was ONE A. She's way too hard. She talks too fast to take down notes whether you type or write by hand. Bring a recorder (if you HAVE to take her). I barely squeezed through this class with an A, only because I stopped reading the book and started making flash cards of the I.D's (vocab).
She does not really teach. Her class is way to hard and she thinks that her class is the most important. She gives to much work for just one class. DON'T TAKE HER CLASS IF YOU WANT TO PASS!!! I wish you the best of luck.
She uses powerpoints in her lecture that are very clear. She also has reviews online that go over everything on the tests. Shes interesting, funny, and easy to pay attention to. All you have to do is TAKE NOTES IN CLASS and DO HER REVIEWS. Do that, and an easy A.
First class taken after being out for several years and not bad at all. Not pleased that the only way to make a A/B is to do the book report and research paper. She keeps it interesting. I used a recorder as she talks fast. Overall I enjoyed her class.
Her exams are more difficult than they should be. My biggest complaint is her teaching of disputed events in history as fact. Also, the way she presents a topic is strongly colored by her personal beliefs. In my report and essays I contradicted her portrayal of events with evidence from other sources, this earned me a C grade.
Tests are pretty tough, her multiple choice questions are worded weird and sometimes hard to understand. Taking a summer class, she didn't make us do a research paper but instead we needed to write two essays per test. Finished with an A but could have easily gotten a B.
Ms. Biehler is an awesome . She keeps you engaged, very animated, and very knowledgeable. She makes history so interesting. She has plentiful stories to keep you awake. Her tests are very easy if you write down every single thing she says. Recommend getting a recorder. Studying is necessary. I took her in the summer no essay and recieved an A
Ways to succeed in her class? 1. Show up on time. 2. Read the chapters / print out the outlines and take good notes 3. Get a study group together EARLY! 4. Answer all the unit reviews, essay questions and know the IDs. 5. Get your book report and research paper done early...KNOW Turabian formating and you'll ace her class!
Lectures are full of blatant misinformation. Uses stories, anecdotes and frequently messes up important dates and statistics. Class should be considered unacceptable by any college academic standards.
Don't take this teacher!!! Way too critical in her grading of essays.
She is really interesting, her lectures are never boring but she is tough. You will have to meet with her outside of class b/c you never know what she really wants on her I.D.'s and essays. Grammer is very important to her, also do the extra papers.
Lectures consist mostly of unimportant information while concealing what might be useful. Only worry about the identities she gives in class and use the book for the rest. In contrast, VERY helpful outside of class. For any questions, meet with her when she says and she'll give you all the info you actually need.Get the footnotes right on papers!
Hands down one of the best lecturers I've ever had the pleasure of taking a class with. Covers everything on the test in her lectures and on powerpoints. Study guides are long but extremely helpful. She makes the most boring era of history super interesting. Highly recommend!
By FAR the best lecturer I've ever had. She talks to you in a story format and gives you relevant and "behind the scenes" info that helps you remember the material. If you go to class daily, take complete notes, pre-write your essays and ID's before the test and have her give you feedback, you will do well. Record her lectures - she talks fast!!
I took her American History II class last semester, fresh out of high school. I would've made an AB IF i did the research paper and the book assignment thing (her instructions weren't clear). The tests are hard and she is very picky about the essays (she will take points off if you don't write exactly what she wants). A little rude. Take notes.
She is a great teacher and really cares about what she is teaching which makes it more interesting for everyone. Very understandable and reasonable. 3 papers and 4 tests. Have to study but if you do the reviews not too hard. Really good professor overall!
Her lectures were very interesting. She's very passionate about history but it's hard to tell when she's going off about something she finds interesting or something that will be on the test. I learned quite a bit, but I only got a B. Study guides and notes are provided.
Prof. Biehler is a great lecturer, she makes the subject interesting and fun. She's pretty boisterous, and in person she can even be a little rude, but I think that's just her nature. Visiting her at office hours can help. Keep up with ID flashcards and reading, and write your essays ahead of time. Not an easy A, but very doable.
She's hilarious and makes history really interesting. He tests are very tough and usually her tests have stuff that she teaches in the lecture.
Her tests are so tough and sometimes you might not like her attitude
I've taken her twice now. Her tests are hard but possible if you show up and take notes. Don't need the book but she does make comments that aren't really socially acceptable.. Have thick skin if you take her.
Prof. Biehler is awesome. Her lectures are great, you must pay attention in order to write down important things to study for the test. Challenging class but can get done easily. Easy B or A!
Just finished her summer US Hist 1301 course and this class wasn't all too bad! She's pretty laid back and has good lectures. Note taking is a must in this course since everything is fast paced. There's 5 tests and they all had around 30 multiple choice questions.. Fairly easy
Prof. Biehler knows her stuff and gives you insight to small things in history that would never be covered in a regular class. I took her for her summer session so there was no essay, but 33 MC. Attendance is mandatory as her tests are entirely covered by her lectures and I would record them or write thorough word for word notes. Def. take her!
Four different tests & one book report. The first test was the easiest test, considering the fact that it's a map test. Her lectures are difficult to follow and she always goes on a tangent. The book report is the second easiest thing to do in her class and that's worth extra credit points. The grade you earn depends on the grade you get on tests.
Don't stick to JUST lectures. Read and analyze material. This will help you out on the test as well.; I made the mistake of not doing so. Lectures are descriptive and very informal; So, come here expecting to write. Turn in good written assignments to help boost your graded at the end of the semester.
For a history class, this was a hard one to do. Although, she has 4 multiple choice the questions seem to vague to choose just one. Also, to get an A you have to do 2 essays and a book/movie or History event report. Would not take this professor again!
Make sure you turn in the paper and book review because the multiple choice tests are very tricky.
her lectures are like story time. She's tough on grammar on papers. Expects you to be an adult and follow the rules (be on time, turn stuff in, etc) and a lot of people couldn't grasp that. She knows her stuff. Attend class, take good notes. Print your stuff out ahead of time. She gives opportunities for extra credit-do it. Loved her class.
This professor's lectures were a little hard because there was a lot of information given, it was fast and I would suggest bringing a recorder to class. For the exams, the questions she asks are going to worded differently than on the learning objectives. Try to make flashcards for studying and very particular about papers. OK but critical.
On the syllabus it says you can only retake 1 out of the 5 tests (excluding map test). WRONGGG Towards the end she told everyone we could retake all of them so don't let the syllabus fool you. Gives extra credit but you have to write 4 page essays and some movie reviews. Hard to understand so do not take this teacher. Don't waste your money.
Professor B is very passionate about the subject, but if you slip up at the beginning of the semester like I did, it is impossible for you to get over a C. She's a tough grader, but her lectures make up for it. Tip: use the study guide.
I took the summer session and it was not bad at all. All she does is powerpoint of the chapter and she talks about it while you take notes. She tells a bunch of stories and has really unnecessary comments. The tests are pretty simple but just make sure you get good notes during class. Most if the time class ends early!
Prof. Biehler is a good teacher. Most of her lecture are clear and related to the content on her powerpoint. She often tell a little story about all the historical locations she have visited. Her test is hard but if you listen and take some note anything will be find. All of her lecture is related to the test.
Dr. Biehler was not the best professor I've had. She's kind of rude and sarcastic but if you have tough skin you'll be fine. She so intensely loves history so thats nice that she is actually excited to be at class teaching you. Other than that there is an extensive paper to write if you want a B and two more if you want an A.
This class is terrible. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS. She contradicts herself and is never clear on what she wants. She talks too fast, does not write anything on the board, and gets mad at you for asking questions. She is rude to students and does not want them to succeed. 4 HARD papers and 4 HARD tests. There is a map test that helps with your grade.
She's a character, but in a good way. I highly suggest recording her lectures, and printing out all of the slides per unit ahead of time. She talks fast and is a story teller, so it's easy to miss stuff, and or get caught up on details that won't be on the exams. She wants you to do well, so pay attention and ask questions!
She makes history interesting with her amazing story telling. I would retake her class just for that alone. However, she had about as many papers as my English Professor, and is a stickler for grammar. I also cant manage to get higher than a B+ on my tests... Im not the only one. Im on fire in class but her test questions are sometimes unclear.
Prof. Biehler is very strict and straight forward, but she is also honest and helpful. She covers all the test material during her lectures, and she's really willing to explain things and answer questions. Passing the class is easy, but if you want to get a good grade you have to work hard. Overall, I loved her class and would take it again.
I didnt enjoy Prof. Biehlers class my main issue was the vague questions on tests. You have to understand her thought process rather than the material. Study guides help. She also was unprofessional in some of her interactions with students (she remarked on specific scores people had made in front of the class several times). Wouldnt recommend
I've never been interested in history unless I took her class, and now it's one of my favorite subjects. The tests are purely based on the notes you take from her lectures, and she reviews last classes' material at the start of every lecture. Before test day she'll answer any questions and has a straightforward study guide. STUDY FOR TESTS!
She is great at teaching and I have learned a lot about history from her class. Besides that she is extremely rude to her student, strict, and not understanding at all. Beware of taking her class, and be ready to feel belittled.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Professor does not know how to write an exam! She says that she wants to "make you think" during exams but this just translates into confusing test questions. On two different exams, the whole class (not exaggerating) did terribly. When no one can pass exams that means there is something wrong with the prof, not the students
Where to start? She did not use the textbook. She had a tendency to make rude and inaccurate blanket statements. She was unbelievably frustrating with her exams because they are convoluted, but don't worry: she justifies it under the guise of "critical thinking". The exams are based on her beliefs, not facts.
Great storyteller, very knowledgeable. Tough class, exams are not necessarily about the content but about what she wants them to be about. Her questions are meant to stump even the most erudite students, and she doesn't put up with anything during the lectures. Disorganized. Takes lots of notes and record each lecture if you want to do well. Study!
Awesome teacher. She was very clear about what she wanted throughout the semester. She always tried to make it as simple as she could for each student and made sure when students needed to retest she went through the test to help them understand where they went wrong. All-in-all an amazing teacher who thinks about her students.
Prof. Biehler talks fast but if you pay attention, write notes, and attend all lectures, you get through it. She reviews previous lesson in every classes which helps in the exams. Some exam questions are hard since I am not strong in critical thinking but doing the extra credits help tremendously to bump up the grade. She has a good sense of humor.
Nancy is awesome. She really cares about her students. Super quick at returning emails. one of the professors that actually gives a damn about what shes teaching and tries to make it interesting. Honestly her course is only difficult because her lectures are quick. if she opens her mouth it has to do something with the test. just ask alot of q's!
I absolutely adored Professor Biehler, but I will warn you that she is made of tough stuff! No interruptions, no cell phones out in class, and she is big on class participation and attendance. Her sense of humor meshed well with mine, but some may consider her "mean". Don't take if you don't like it when a professor pokes fun at you.
Ok, so I took Biehler as a dual credit student, which is a pretty popular option over the summer for high schoolers like me. I do not feel like Biehler has any business teaching online classes. Not only is her use of blackboard appallingly unorganized, but her assignment instructions lack clarity. DO NOT SUBJECT YOURSELF TO THIS TORTURE.
This is literally the worst class I have ever taken. Classes are recorded from her zoom lecture but does not cover all the information required for the tests. She does not use a textbook and chapter notes are difficult to follow. Don't even bother trying to reach out for help, she doesn't respond to emails.
First acc class, but as a dual cred student I enjoyed. No textbook, simple lecture notes, and(good)optional zoom lectures. Tests are open response and ppl who wrote bad reviews are just salty abt grades:) I honestly bs'd this class and did fine. Easy class, but hard grader + not that organized. Would take again. peace out biehlerthank you
I took this class as a dual-credit student and I enjoyed it. I've always struggled with history because it's just hard to me to stay engaged and interested in the topics but Professor Biehler did a good job of telling stories that relate to the topics. She is very knowledgable, just ask questions and send her emails! She also posts notes, use them!
Her lectures are worst. She keeps telling stories and students just go into dreams! Her tests are not at all in line with lectures. Vague words. Tests are super duper difficult as if they were made to fail students. I definitely regret taking her class.
Take very good notes, it is vital!! Not everything is in the transcript that she posts online. She will call you out if you aren't participating, so try to.
This professor is not fit to be teaching. She has prejudices against minorities and this is present in her lectures. She is living in the 60s. She has pre conceived notions that should not be tolerated. Not fit to be teaching AT ALL.
Sometimes she can be nice and then sometimes she really isn't. Calls out people in the class for not having done assignments which is extremely awkward to listen to. The grading for the tests is quite hard, although the two essays and book reports aren't graded too hard. Also, she randomly calls on people in class all the time to answer questions.
The workload is light and grades depend on your participation and willing to retain all the information given in her REALLY long lectures. I believe she was more attracted to US history rather than knowledgeable about it. So if youre willing to put up with pride, I say easy A if youre paying attention to whats actually important in history
The first couple of weeks of class.. it was kind of rocky, but as the class progressed I learned that her class is only difficult if you make it difficult, from day 1, her syllabus explains everything that you will need to turn in for the semester. Few assignments and plenty of time to do them. She is lecture heavy but her lectures are engaging!
Really rude to students, her work is a bit tuff wouldnt take her class again!
really strict and hard to pass
Got an A in this class but it was very hard to achieve. Tests are hard and while in class you better not look at phone or at laptop. Verbally abusive to students who are either late, not paying attention, or lack common sense. Has a bad attitude about younger generation. Lectures are ok and can be informative. Yeah, avoid her if you can.
This class is a hit or miss for people. First off she talks very fast and it is extremely hard to tell what is going to be on the test or not. The tests were difficult. This can be attributed to the nature of the questions as they are very confusing. However, she is extremely entertaining.
Most of the bad reviews here are written by bitter students that got bad grades but spent the whole class playing Tetris. The exams are big-picture, with the exception of a few small details she emphasizes. She's an easy grader on papers, which are short, and it's easy to pass the class if you just pay attention. Know the vocab!!!
While I enjoy her lectures, she has a common flaw with a certain type of professor. They don't realize that their words hurt. Expect everyone to know the material, which makes sense, however, if you don't know, she singles you out. The lectures overall are entertaining but make sure you know the answer when she calls on you.
Prof Biehler was very commonly either liked or disliked with little in-between. She talks very fast and many times stated that she expects her students to right down everything she says. Tests were very difficult and the average score was often barely passing. She is very funny, but make sure you have thick skin if you take her class.
A person with bias should never be a historian or history teacher, I mean none of us are perfect but a Proffesional historian should view history with an alien and clear perspective. She was rude to students who could not answer, and was incredibly obsessed with only the legacy and patriotic moments of US history. Long useless lectures, never again
Professor Biehler had difficult exams, but everything she goes over in her lectures and study guide is on the exam. If you study everything she goes over and what's on the study guide you should be fine. Make time for her class, study with your friends, and don't be shy to email her or go to her office hours.
She does her lectures in a way that makes it so easy to stick. She will review chapters often and push for participation to make sure we got it down. The tests are difficult but there are solid opportunities to do extra credit/makeup work. She's a history geek and loves to talk about the fun facts or her experiences seeing historical landmarks.
Her lectures are okay, but she will sometimes forget what she tells or doesn't tell the class and then insults you for not knowing something she didn't explain. You need thick skin to take her class, you could know all the content and she will still pick on you and be unnecessarily rude. You need to study intensely to pass with an okay grade.
A great person, funny and helpful, but class was hard we had only test and that's cool and all till you do bad on a test and it brings your grade down a lot.. at least she lets you retake it for up to a 70 and gives you a chance to write an in-class essay to get additional points. She will meet with you out of class if you need additional help.
Prof. Biehler is passionate and knowledgeable, however, will pick on you in class if you don't know the answer to her questions. You will be lost if you miss a lecture- LOTS of notes. No assignments, the only grades are from the tests and essays, which take an immense amount of studying to pass. Not an easy class, but the professor isn't bad.
Your entire grade is 5 tests and if you want A or B have to write essays. Lectures were all in person, but were actually made interesting, chapter notes were posted online after they were done. She would review before tests, but try to do individual review beforehand, had very specific answers for wording on some. Pretty good for a lecture course.
Such a passionate professor! As an immigrant, I was scared of taking this U.S. History class, but Ms. Biehler made it so interesting and fun that it was worth it. She gives fantastic lectures and will always post the material for you to study by yourself. TAKE NOTES: it is a lot of material, but if you take notes, it makes sense. Don't skip class!!
