really easy teacher. you do learn alot in her class. her lectures are straight out of the book. just follow the study guide she gives before a test and you'll get an A for sure. used an overhead which can be distracting at times.
Big on Powerpoint handouts. Not too hard. alot of material that you might already know. Alot of new stuff. multiple choice question test.
I got an A in her class.Follow the study guide and read the book. She's nice and approachable. Her tests are easy.
Easy class, but very boring teacher. You could stay home and read the text and study guide and get an "A".
Easy tests, just read sections she tells u 2 not whole chs and read study guide. She's kinda weird and boring though, takes attandance, wastes a lot of class time
AWSOME class i loved it. she is interesting and her tests come straight from her notes and some from the book but, the book is interesing
Very sweet teacher. Extremely easy class as long as you study the study guide for the tests...you dont really even have to go to class to do well, but attendance affects your grade. lectures are very boring!!
She doesn't show an interest to teach and you can see it. Everything you ask her she says " I'm not a medical doctor, I don't know", when she should as a Psy 310 teacher. Attendance is 15% of class! It's an A but it's a drag to get it. Tests right out of the book, lectures are booring. Not worth it
She doesn't know the answer to ANY questions. Her voice trails off at the end of sentences and she has really crazy hair. Not a good teacher. She even lectures off of her study guide like she doesn't know the material.
The only draw back it that you have to go to class because it is 15% of you grade. Her test are reasonable. She gives out a study guide and if you read the parts out lined in the study guide you'll do fine. Also do the quizes online, the web site is on the back of the book. She very sweet
her tests are really easy as long as you read the book. she hands out lecture notes so even if you miss a class you dont fall behind. i would highly recommend her.
Some teachers don't take attendance and the class is still at capacity because they are simply good teachers. This teacher takes attendance and it counts as 15% and people still don't show up. Becareful of teachers who take attendance, it usually means their lectures are not great. Especially this 1
I enjoyed her classes. She is kind and tries her best. If you utilize her office hrs and ask questions, she is willing to help. If you read the book & use the study guide, you shouldn't have any problem?? Talking about her hair & voice is caddy, immature & irrelevant when trying to pick professor.
I thought we were rating professors on their ability to "profess", not their appearance. Too bad for CSUN for students like you. Anyways, Great teacher, easy tests, study guides a major plus, and att. is 15% of grade. If u need the class, do not take it with anyone else.
this professor is such a sweet woman i cant believe people would come on to this site and make rude and mean remarks about her. her class is pretty straightforward and the notes she hands out are straight from the book. use her notes as u read the chapter and u will be fine. online quizzes help too!
She is horrible
Very nice teacher. Class is really easy. Come to class and study the study guides and you will have no problem passing the class. A really sweet person. Enjoyed the class.
Since there are so many mized messages on this professor, let me set it straight. If you are a kiss-up and are one of those people who read everything that is assigned you will probably like this teacher. If you are normal and do not want to be bored take someone else.
The class is pretty basic as long as you show up to class and pay some attention. Online quizes from the website on the back of the book are helpful. Im getting an A- or B+ without ever having to open the book! Lectures are kinda boring though
I had her for 310 and she was great, but 312 was very boring.it was sad because she is a great prof. but the material is just sooo boring. Just review the study guild and you will do fine.
If you want to take a class where you will actually learn something, take her. She takes role every single session. Overall, I would recommend her. Just follow her notes and you'll do fine.
Easy A, however this prof. does not know how to lecture on this material, partly because she has not mastered it. She struggles to answer questions that depart from her lecture notes and makes silly comments that demean our common sense. The book is wonderful and the material is interesting but I would recommend finding someone else wo teaches this
Very nice teacher. Is liberal and willing to compromise. Very patient. However, I think her teaching skills need a bit of work. She speeds through the material during lecture, so it's hard to wrtie down what she's telling you. But if you read the book and just understand the basic concepts of each chapter, then you'll do fine.
the class is very interesting and the professor is extremely nice (sometimes i wondered if she's not on valium). tests are pretty easy although you do have to study. she's also very helpful.
Very pleasant teacher. I loved her class and thought it very informative. Not too hard at all although if you don't do the reading you will not pass!! Not overly dynamic teaching method but easy to follow and interesting subject.
Nice lady, but VERY boring. The material is so interesting but she really didn't do anything with it. Her lectures were straight out of the book so you really don't even need to go to class, EXCEPT she takes attendance every class and it counts as 15% of your grade, so you pretty much have to go. Take someone more interesting
print out all the lecture notes from her site. everything you need to know is on there. you dont even have to take any notes in class. just sit there and listen.
This lady is so boring. Oh my GOD! I dreaded going to her class. He test are super hard and the only reason why people pass is because she grades on a curve. Read, read read, the book...everything is on the book. oy vey, did i mention she's boriing?
This prof. is adorable, she gives information 4 ur own knowledge not b/c it is on the book. She is sweet, nice, and interesting. At the end of the semester u might get tired since its about law which 4 me is a bore. Either way I recommend her. She is great and exams are based on her notes. SHE'S GREAT!!!
run and save your nerves, the class is so boring, you would blame yourself not dropping her class on time.
I loved this class and this prof. she is eccentric but very interesting to listen to in lecture her grading is fair and she is an overall wonderful prof.
She is so nice and the class was very easy. She gives you study guides before each test that make it very easy to study. Lots of open conversations in class, she always asks what we think. Sometimes she can be a litttttle boring, but overall pretty good. I would definately recommend.
She's boring. Plus, she's not clear...sometimes she will jump from point to point and it's hard to follow! However, if you go to class everyday and do ur best, you could get pass with a C or better!
BORING!!!!! omg! lectures are boring! the class itself is pretty easy, she gives study guide b4 tests, just read read and read book on your own! and be prepared to be bored during lecture! : / BORING!
She is really boring all she does is talk and doesn't make things clear she has 3 tests but their hard because you have to memorize a lot of terms and the tests have nothing to do with the book or the notes she gives
SHE IS SO BORING!!!!!!I HATED HER CLASS SHE MADE ME WANT TO CHANGE MY MAJOR.DON'T TAKE HER CLASS!!
She is very nice, sweet, and dorky. personally, i cannot stand her type of personality because it doesnt' mesh with mine, but she is very nice. but her class is borning. her powerpoints are useless. I dont know why she has them. Tests are relatively easy if u study. You need the book b/c you won't get the info from her. but tries hard.
This class was always, entertaining. The test are very easy and she is extremely helpful, unless if you ask if it is going to be on the test, but as with all professors it is better not to peeve them and ask that question, also, go on the website for the textbook, there are questions there that are on the exams.
This class is really BORING!! Don't take her.Her tests are hard and her powerpoints don't help you prepare for tests you have to read the book on your own.I don't recommend this class you should take professor Garner he is a better professor.
No papers...15% atten. 3 tests 35% is your final. you gotta read your stuff...she gives you a study guide and thats exactly what shes gonna test you on..her tests question are pretty foward... shes really big on defin. and buy the study guide that on the syllab. it helps u out a lot
Her class was pure torture. All her info was VERYYYYYYY outdated. I didnn't crack the book open once and landed an A. This should be an amazing class, I would rather go in for a route canal. People would disclose extremely personal events about their lives & she would just airbrush over their comments...had no clue how to react.
I can't comprehend how she's a practicing psychologist. Mentions regularly she won't take on all sorts of cases/clients. She seems very uncomfortable around people. Not at all knowlegable...doesn't keep up to date on developments in the field. She'll reply to questions with, "I'd love if you did some research & found out for me."
Easy Class. Tests are straight forward and she lets you know exactly what to study. Dont bother taking notes, you will not need them, tests are from the book publishers so just read the sections she tells you are on the test. The only problem is attendance is mandatory and since you don't have to take notes, it can get boring.
This class was pretty boring material, but the teacher is pretty nice and easy going. The tests aren't too hard if you study for them and are present in class. I would recommend her. The material can get pretty dry though.
Dr Blum is great if you want to learn alot without feeling overwhelmed. For Psy 310, she gave plenty of information without giving you more than you need to know to understand the material. Her tests require some studying, but her study guides make it pretty easy. Highly recommended!!
Easy class. She does take role outloud which takes up the first 10 minutes of each class. 2 exams and 1 final. If you study, easy A or B.
Wonderful Professor. Her lectures are based on her powerpoints and she has them online for you to download and the study guides are online, too. Knowledgeable professor you learn a lot and it isn't a hard class. Study the powerpoints and you should be fine. easy.
I received a B, but will never take her again. Attendance is important, but class lecture is useless. You need to read the book, do study guide throughly(ends up being 15 pages) and just teach yourself. She's too lazy to give HW or to write the tests herself so she gets test from the author and some questions are very detailed. Multiplechoice only
Dr. Blum is a great professor! I would definitely recommend her to anyone, in fact I am taking her again this fall. She is very knowledgeable and provides the class with many interesting personal stories. She is open to class discussions and comments. Take good notes, use her study guides, and show up to class and an A is easily within reach!
she always looks tired low energy.....she supposed to help depressed people...but...she should be helped...if u study study guide,it will be fine..i do not like her teaching style..she read a book...that's it..
She is an extremely nice lady and is very helpful to her students. Attendance is manditory and 15% of your grade. But class gets really boring really quick. The book is absolutely necessary. She has 3 tests. She gives very good study guides for each test. If you use the book with the study guide you will get an A for sure.
this class is absolutely a joke. she takes 15 min every class and takes roll out loud. she doesn't like students to get up and go to the bathroom and treats us as if we are in high school. this class is so boring. she is a nice person but this class is just so boring and she doesn't make an effort to make it interesting.
Professor Blum is the most amazing professor I have ever had the privilege of meeting in my entire four years at CSUN. She is the nicest, most understanding, charming, and just absolutely great. You'd be a fool to miss out on an opportunity to take one of her classes. For a lecture class, she does an amazing job; simply wonderful.
Nice lady, bad teacher.. if your a psy major & you know the material perfect teacher for u, no essays & only two test.. if your not & you dont know the material & u need to learn, u surely will not learn from her or her class.. only from her study guides or books..does take attendence & its a pain because class is really boring & your not learning
Would not recommend. She spent 2 sessions telling us how difficult she is and how hard her class is. She said that at least 10 of us will fail the class. I dropped her class because she was getting on my nerves not because I was intimidated. Instead of motivating us, she was trying to discourage us. What kind of a teaching style is that
Very sweet person, totally approachable. She really likes students who ask questions and contribute to discussions. Her lectures are straight from the book. She takes attendence daily but if you have done the assigned readings there really is not point in going to class.
Dr Blum is so sweet! Follow her study guides and study the online tests. Nicest lady ever!!
Her class is interesting, but a lot if her in class activities are pointless and just waste time. She uses a test bank so the best thing to do is read the chapters because the questions come from the text, not her lectures.
Anal, wierd, professor, but just print out the study guides she puts on moodle and read the text in ord with it and you will do great.
it might sound like an easy subject but tests were harder than expected. not like insanely hard but you definitely have to read the book carefully and follow the study guide. 12 easy hw assignments. it helped that teacher was nice and always in a cheerful mood. she takes attendance every single class but will mark you present if you come in late.
awesome teacher. way easy if you follow the study guide... or better yet. fill out the study guide while she goes over lecture in class.
She is a sweet person. Great class. She grades fairly. Curves slightly. Attendance is mandatory. She takes role as if we were in middle school. She also uses class time to go over material that is not necessarily on the tests. Use the book.
Worst/most inadequate prof. I've ever had. Always late, never prepared for questions (always "I'm not sure, I don't know"), basically reads off her PowerPoints & doesnt know anything besides what's in it. Gives study guides that are almost exactly the same as test Qs, so easy A. Nice lady, but terrible professor. Avoid if you actually want to learn
Lectures are awfully boring and attendance is mandatory. I passed with an a basically by reading the chapters she told us on the sutdy guides for each test. Shes not a good teacher at all, mostly cuz its hard to pay attention to anything she says, but you'll get by if you read alot so it's not too bad
Class is curved. Everytime I try to watch the video, I fall asleep(watching video=grade) . For any question you have, she tells you to look over dozens of documents she uploaded regarding every topic(lazy). And there are so many things she ask from a class (participate in research studies, spend time online, etc). Avoid psych 150 if you can.
Moves along her (unhelpful) slides quickly during lecture. Didn't learn anything from attending her class. She isn't very helpful, always redirects your questions to videos, & handouts online. 3 exams, grades on a curve. Attendance is mandatory. Little extra credit offered. I got an A-, but HEAVILY read every chapter, it's the only way to pass.
This class is easy. I never paid attention in class. Not even a little. I didn't ever look at her slides. I pretty much went in late to sign in and slept (attendence is mandatory). She is nice but her lectures are not helpful. Do the study guide and read the chapters in the book. The tests are straight out of the book! I got an A with min effort.
She's a talker!! Definitely learned a lot about disorders, but because of the online HW (Aplia). Tests were straight study guide based, LOVED it. Was tested every 4 chapters, curved. FInal was cumulative. Attendance was mandatory. Wouldn't mind taking her again.
took MANY professors and Prof Blum is one of the BEST!! come to class and take part in the discussions, you should do well. 3 exams, online homework (videos, raise virtual teen, write short summaries). Study guides are big yet if you find all of the items and study, you should get an A on the exams. Gives LOTS of extra points and extra credit.
She teaches below the level of the textbook, which makes tests a lot more difficult than the rest of the class. Don't bother asking questions. Her number one response is, "I don't know." Gives lots of extra credit. If you actually want to learn the material, look elsewhere.
Take the class if you enjoy reading the textbook. No homework but her lectures are incredibly boring. If you have questions, don't bother asking her. Her response will be, "Uhh, I don't know... If you have time after class, maybe we can go into it more and look in the book." She reads off of powerpoints and outline. Worst professor I've ever had.
She's really straightforward, her study guides are exactly what is going to be on the exam. she's the best GE teacher I've had by far. I studied a few days before the exam, and she curves
STAY AWAY!!!! she will bore you to death!! she is not specific on the study guides! you basically have to read the whole entire book. She talks too much and is pretty weird. Attendance is mandatory, she uses top hats and gives out the code at her given time. ITs annoying since her lectures do not help you what so ever.. I do recommend get the book!
The book is your teacher ! Her lectures, which are composed of slides and some movie clips, are a waste of time. The slides (and examples she gives) regurgitate word-per-word from the reading. It's practically pointless to be there, however, attendance is mandatory. There's 3 tests, online practice quizzes, and an online MyVirtualTeen program.
she's a cool instructor. For the test study the guide and youll pass and do my virtual child and the online book stuff. The class isn't that hard
Read the book to do well on tests, her lectures are pretty much useless & boring since the test is based off the book. Uses Top Hat for attendance so you have to be there (asks you to email her if you participated that day but I don't think any one did that). A lot of materials have to be purchased but they're not even used in class just for points
I took Dr. Blum for developmental psychology and she wasnt bad. She requires alot of online work though, such as my virtual child and all the homework is online as well as top hat which is an online participation system. Her lectures were super boring and the tests are based off the book anyways. She does do study guides and 2 midterms and a final.
She was OK, lectures seemed long and she would get confused at some of our questions. Besides that, class was super easy. Lots of online homework but easy to do. Extra credit for in class participation, but you don't need to be there. 3 exams, with study guides. Study the guides and do al homework and you'll get an easy A.
Nice proff but boring class. Lectures are straight out of the book. Takes attendance daily and has lots of in-class opportunities for extra credit. Tests are pretty easy, just use the study guides. Lots of online homework. Don't buy the book, you'll have to read it online for homework.
I appreciate Professor Blum's kindness. However, I wish she would alter her strict attendance and participation policies when she bases the entire course off of the text. I would have earned the EXACT same exam scores without seeing a single lecture. And how can you be expected to participate for points every week with 175+ students in the room?
her lectures are super boring, she just reads off her power point. the book is your teacher because you will not understand what she is explaining. no paper, no quiz, no presentation, no homework, only 4 test and you really need to do good on her tests to pass the class. take her if you don't have any other option.
Boring, stupid class. Didn't learn a thing. I blitzed through everything the night b4 with the amazing study guides she gives. She reads from pointless slides. Tophat questions and saying stupid things in class is 15% of your grade. HOWEVER, I probably came to class 10 times throughout the entire semester and got 100% on each exam, so I got an A.
Professor Blum is such a genuinely sweet person! Her lectures are kind of long and boring. But her study guide is literally the ENTIRE test. Make sure you utilize her study guide and you will pass! Also, make sure you save/ write down her Top Hat questions, because they will all show up on the exam.
She's a nice professor but doesn't really teach much. You learn everything from the book. Just follow her study guides and the exams are fairly easy. The class is based off of some online hw, 4 exams, and attendance/participation. Just attend class to get the points. She doesn't teach much in class.
If you read the chapters/follow the study guide this class is an easy A. LOTS of extra credit opportunities. tests are clear & straight forward, attendance is not necessary for learning but is necessary for participation points & top hat extra credit questions. posts power point slides on moodle, sweetest professor ever, consistent& shows films
This teacher spends way to much time on unnecessary material instead of covering core information. I left the semester feeling as if I have learned nothing and wishing I had a different professor. If you don't like random rants and having half of class time wasted do not take this teacher.
Professor Blum is a very nice Professor who does her job right. I just find this class to be super early, you show up, you take notes, study hard, pass the quizzes, and you'll pass the class so easy. My only issue is that when we ask her a question she doesn't answer it, she just blows it off and waits to speak about it in office hours.
Dr. Blum is an okay professor. Very nice lady, but can be unorganized at times and her lectures can be incredibly boring. Her class was a relatively simple though. Didn't show up ALL the time as she posts lecture slides online. Exams are pretty straight forward, no surprises. She's a decent professor and I would probably take her again.
Blum is the perfect prof. lecture, ppts, study guides, exams r straight from book. She selects EZ 2 read, interesting straight forward texts books & interactive programs 4 hw. top hat costs $ but i suggest u buy 1 year & take her twice 2 save $ & she posts everything on moodle. if u just try a LIL bit u will get an A. nice, smart, funny.
4 easy tests straight out the book nd posts grades same day or next day. reading and hw every week but its not hard attendance only mandatory for participation and LOTS of extra credit opportunities
She's a good professor. She's funny in class and encourages people to share stories which got interesting in my psych class. The tests are straightforward, study and you will pass. Attendance through the full class is required though, as she asks graded questions throughout the class.
PSY250 is a Biopsychology class and boy oh boy did the biology part scare me. Professor Blum made it clear EXACTLY what to study, how to pass the tests and would even curve the tests. Very clear on how to pass the class and offers lots of extra credit events. Also: her jokes were very corny but I loved them all LOL
Nice professor, however her lectures were boring to me. I feel i learned mostly from the book. She does make you buy tophat for attendance, in addition to the ebook. She gives a study guide, but doesn't stick to it. I personally would not take her again.
Dr. Blum is AWESOME! her grading is clear, and she gives extra credit. If you do the work you'll pass you just need to put some effort. I enjoyed her lectures, she does talk the whole session (will give a break if its a long class). Participation makes a difference in your grade! Powerpoint based, and videos. If you want to learn, take her.
Professor Blum is a sweet, charming woman, and she does her best to help everyone pass. However, I deeply dislike her lecturing style, and because of it, I will avoid taking another class with her. She wastes time on in-class questions and remembering names, so she is forced to speed and ramble through the lecture, and typically doesn't elaborate.
her lectures are boring and coming to class feels very unnecessary bc connect makes you study. but then you have to come to class bc she takes attendance on tophat as well as asks questions in class with that app. having to buy that app had me salty. overall a chill class though. shes nice and tries to be understanding.
Professor Blum does want her students to learn and take away from her class. I've taken her for multiple classes and I enjoy her style of teaching. She gives you a study guide for exams. Attendance is mandatory as it counts for points.
Prof Blum was a very sweet professor! She is always available for questions, and provides study guides for every exam. Must get text book because thats where the test comes from (a lot of reading). Attendance is also mandatory. Her powerpoint aren't the best, so you need to actually read to pass. 4 exams, all 50 questions, each 50 question each.
3 exams, first 2 are 50 questions, final is 80. Study guide provided for all. Attendance is mandatory & homework is heavy. She is always available for questions. Don't let this easy class fool you, it can be tricky!
She is an okay professor. The lectures are boring. she tends to go off topic a lot and packs a lot of information. Her study guides do not match the exams. She provides us with the main topic of what to study but she doesn't emphasize it enough so that's pointless. Should look at book more. extra credit is time consuming. Would never take her again
Professor Blum means well for her students, however there are some things to be aware of. Her tests and PowerPoints are based off the reading, so your book is your best friend. You need to participate and attend class to receive credit for a grade, as well as do a couple of required research experiments. Memorization is key to passing, and youre ok
I honestly loved Professor Blum! 3 midterms plus a final which she gives you a study guide before each. Overall just make sure to study the book and follow her study guide and you will easily pass! Memorization is key with this class!
Dr. Blum thoroughly discussed concepts through her lectures and her tests reflected what was taught in class. The tests were pretty clear so as long as you read the textbook and understand the jist of the concepts, you'll easily pass. I would definitely recommend this professor as not only was she informative but understanding and thoughtful.
She was a very nice professor, and the lectures were interesting. You just have to read the book and study well. She gives you study guides too with the midterms and final (:
Blum is a great professor! She's cute and quirky. You just HAVE to show up every class, but isn't that what you're paying for? Studying the textbook is quintessential! Stay on top of deadlines too. She gives study guides before tests. She's also easy to speak to outside of class and in office hours. Taking psychology? She's the one to go to.
This professor reads off of her slides and repeats everything the book says. She uses Pearson Revel for this course, which consists of reading 4+ hours for every chapter for an online test at the end for 75 points each. She crams everything she possibly can into her tests (study guides are 5 pgs long at least). You will teach yourself. Do not take.
This isn't a hard class, of course if you study. Her study guides are straight forward. Her tests are super easy. She is very sweet, though her lectures are super boring. But she tries her best to give you all the information that will actually be on the test. Take her(:
You have to teach yourself by reading the textbook bc her lectures are useless and boring, and she takes attendance. On the bright side, she's organized. All the due dates, study guides, etc, were offered in details at the beginning of the semester. She's a nice lady and replies your emails on time. She dose care about her students.
She mostly reads from the powerpoints and the outlines. You really have to teach yourself and if there isn't enough time to do that, memorize information based on the study guides. It's a tough class to teach and she doesn't teach it well. Also, I hate the tophat app she had us use. She cares about the students, but teaching isn't her priority.
if i could give a 0 i would. attendance is mandatory but you teach yourself. shes very condescending with students and gets off track very easily. we used an online version of the book and homework questions and you learn more from those than you do from her. all she does is read from the book and gives top hat questions.
She reads off PowerPoints in class and I wouldnt call that teaching. Avoid and take someone else. Shes sarcastic and she thinks shes funny.
This was much easier than her PSY 250 class, but you have to buy Top Hat for her to count attendance, and even though she just reads off the slides that are on Canvas, attendance is a grade. The material is pretty easy to grasp, and she gives a lot of extra credit opportunities. Just found myself bored with a lot of it sadly.
Uses my virtual child. 5 assignments w/ questions based on mvc (2pts each), 2 midterms, top hat, & final exam. Professor provides study guides for each! Share your book with a friend & study together if you like. I studied very little the day before and have passed every test with an A/B. She uses top hat& location for attendance reads off slides
Boring lectures. Bad at time management. The material was easy but she made it hard that her study guides didn't emphasize enough (could just throw you a topic consisting 10 pages of reading). Played too many long videos in class and didn't have time for teaching the core material that will be on the test. You will learn from the textbook, not her.
Professor Blum offers extra credit and her exams are based on her lectures and the textbook. Study and you should be fine.
I really enjoyed this class. Prof Blum is great, she makes you work for your grade but she really does care about her students. Make sure you read chapters before class because she uses Top Hat to make sure students are studying. If you read the book and use her study guide you will do great. She gives extra credit for attending events, use it!
There are 3 exams and one final (Not Cumulative). There are online quizzes for each chapter (15 chapters, 20 questions each). Her lectures aren't very interesting and since there is a lot of material to cover she often rushes through her slides, and she does not upload them. She has study guides but they don't help much.
Three exams (midterms), & 1 final (not cumulative). The quizzes online are on chapters you haven't learned yet, and are difficult. Lectures are boring, she goes off tangent all the time, reads off the slides. She isn't encouraging about learning or asking questions, and seems to get bothered when you ask her things. Avoid!
This class is easy if you do the study guides and read the textbook. There are five exams, including the final. All exams are 50 mc questions. I highly recommend using the study guide because that is exactly what's on the exams, no tricks. She takes attendance and does tophat questions throughout the class so you should try to attend every class.
She makes attendance mandatory because her lectures are terrible. She knows if she didn't no one would come. She spends half the class going "Uhm Okay" and flipping through the book to read. She makes you read the text and answer at least 100 questions per chapter. These aren't even worth a lot of your grade its almost all test.
Worst psychology professor Ive ever had my entire life. Her lectures are not engaging at all, on top of that she isnt understanding and doesnt like to accommodate. With COVID-19 going on you would think she would be a little more helpful, but no. She only made things more stressful than they already were. Do yourself a favor and STAY AWAY!
Professor Blum is NOT understanding in any way whatsoever. After the transition to virtual learning due to COVID-19, she made our lives much more difficult. She expects students to memorize and understand every single concept from each chapter and tests us on it. No leniency whatsoever. Just don't take her class. Save yourself and your nerves.
This class has a lot of homework, but it doesn't count too much towards your overall grade. Just do the study guides for the test and you should be fine. I would give five stars but her lectures are a little boring. Easy A class if you put in a little effort.
Show up to class because attendance is mandatory with Tophat. You won't learn much from the lectures, so start studying the study guides from the beginning. The test comes from the textbook anyway. Gives minimal HW that is 2 points each, so most of your grade comes from exams. If her class is offered online, take it! If not, pick someone else.
She doesn't lecture well enough to understand, it's just you & your classmates that help each other out. Midterms are hard, she doesn't even let you go back to the previous question. Do not recommend taking during covid.
Professor has broad PowerPoints. You really have to teach yourself, goes through lecture very fast and expects you to keep up. She doesnt go into detail, her lecture content is very broad. With virtual learning she provides little time to complete test and gives loads of hw. Totally do not recommend this class at all!
She is literally the worst professor I have ever had probably ever, and an awful representation of csun's psychology dept. You will have to teach yourself and undergo condescending comments from her for every question you have with some teenage level sighs. Class time is 90% off topic 10% class material for 20 minutes out of 75 minutes. AWFUL
Lectures feel unorganized, and are often rushed due to time restrictions. PowerPoint slides are read word for word during the whole lecture. There is also a lot of homework, it is not difficult just very time consuming. I would look around more and try and find other professors before enrolling with this professor.
Worst instructor Ive ever had. Lectures are unorganized and off topic. You have to teach yourself. Forces everyone to use 4 different websites for class and credit, makes it extremely difficult and confusing. Most condescending person ever, extremely rude. Makes participation part of the grade but is rude when you ask questions. DO NOT TAKE HER.
She was the absolute worst. She is beyond condescending, unreasonable, and unfair. She only allows you 60 minutes for a 50 minute exam the entire semester even though everyone complained it was not enough time she did not care that her students felt rushed. She always thinks everyone is cheating . For the final she mentioned it was unusually high.
Lectures are often spent discussing topics not related to the course. You have to Teach yourself the material. Professor is also very rude to students. Makes up rules that are different than what the syllabus states.
In the beginning, it seemed like this was going to be my hardest class. Turns out, this was an easy A! It's confusing at first with all the different softwares you need but once you get the hang of it it's not so bad. Provides study guides for all 3 exams. No paper. Just do the work & extra credit, should be an easy A. Definitely taking her again
Professor Blum was so rude the majority of times and even told us that she didn't want to bother "spoon feeding" us the material so we basically had to teach ourselves in this class. Also, since we only have about an hour in class she rushes through everything which doesn't help. She does give out a few extra credit opportunities.
Dr. Nancy lays out a FULLY detailed syllabus that my classmates failed to read (they asked the SAME questions EVERY class) There's a participation site, associated with attendance, and weekly textbook/interactive assignments. This is a university level course. Read, complete the assignments and you'll pass. SN: she was NEVER rude or condescending.
Worst Professor, shes very condescending and rude, makes students feel dumb for asking questions, she doesnt teach well just reads off slides yet requires attendance. Grading is not clear. Dont take her
I took Professor Blum for Psy 250 and 313 at the same time. Attending her lectures, reading the book, and doing connect assignments is the key to doing well. Being a student athlete, Professor Blum was very accommodating and accessible. She gave great both academic and life advice. I enjoyed her lectures, and thought that she was a phenomenal prof.
I took psy250 of prof Blum, it was pretty heavy work at the beginning of the semester, but she was never rude. She also provided many extra credit activities. But I won't take her class again, she basically was just reading slides and I have to read the textbook more often so that I can pass the exams.
You must pay for online book/homework and also pay for a website only for attendance and forced online chat participation. Doesn't teach just reads off slides. Waste time talking about off-topic questions or material. Once spend 45 minutes addressing the attendance issues only "lectured" for 10 minutes after. Material is easy she is annoying.
Professor Blum absolutely does NOT care about her students mental health, which is ironic cause shes a psychology teacher. You have to pay for a software called sage vantage, and a whole separate software called top hat to mark yourself for attendance. Oh and she doesnt teach, she just reads off of slides. Youll be teaching yourself.
If you care about your mental health, dont take her. She makes everything so much harder than it needs to be. In this class I learned NOTHING, she didnt contribute to helping students whatsoever. It was mandatory to purchase a textbook and an app for attendance which is ridiculous. She is an awful teacher.
She give's you so much homework/textbook work. Her tests are all based off the book and yet she still lectures throughout the entire class, which is mandatory to show up for attendance and participation. Oh worst part is she forces you to buy a membership for a website just so she can take attendance and count your participation points through it.
Let me start off by saying - AVOID this professor! Honestly, this professor reads off the power-point slides and if you have any questions she would either say "it's too lengthy, try to keep questions short", or she would skip through the PowerPoint slides. This class could have easily been thought online if she was going skip through things.
DO NOT TAKE HER! She reads off the slides and is always all over the place. She "encourages" people to participate but will only call on like 2 people max each class session. But participation is mandatory!! Make it make sense. You'll have to pay out of pocket for messaging/ participation platform when it can be done on canvas & zoom for free
Her lectures were so boring, she just used the slides the textbook publisher provided without adding any important information. Attendance is only mandatory cause she records attendance and it counts toward your grade. Participation is also mandatory. Tests were okay. Your best bet to pass this class is by reading and taking notes on the textbook.
She reads off of the PowerPoints and has you purchase something for attendance and participation which is very unnecessary as she could have done that on canvas. She also makes you purchase Cengage to take a quiz and complete a vocabulary assignment and exams were the big portion of your grade. If you want to save money, don't recommend.
I personally did not like this class. Professor Blum mainly reads off her slides, makes attendance mandatory and requires in-class participation when there's a class of 200 students. She makes you buy an unnecessary platform for participation as well where u also have to participate for a grade besides in-class participation. Wouldn't recommend.
Makes you pay for an app that marks attendance and participation. Bases participation grade off of marking your own attendance, participating verbally, and interactions amongst other classmates. Speeds through slides that have no educational substance. Homework is time consuming. You'll be teaching yourself for the whole semester. Grading unclear.
she uses a website/app where you need to interact with your classmates for participation points, quizzes on each chapter after finishing the reading - all online. not the most inspirational professor but still knowledgable and friendly. the powerpoints are a bit boring and all the info can be found by reading/chapter quizzes. had extra credit opps.
She often goes on tangents for long periods of time. At the same time she does not answer classmates questions 'in the interest of time'. You will be teaching yourself, with the book. There is also a separate program you will need to sign up & pay for just to mark yourself present. Very aggravating class & lectures do nothing that the book cant.
Prof required a program for attendance that is extra credit, but she checks to see who didn't use the program every class. She also uses a different program for the weekly quizzes. The quizzes are based on the chapter and are the main assignments, so its a lot of reading and comprehension. Not difficult, just time consuming.
As a person, there is no doubt that Professor Blum is good & kind hearted. However as a professor, her lectures are severely lacking in content. Extremely boring lectures with little to no value in attending. You have to buy an subscription to an app to grade your attendance. You're also forced to buy the textbook. Tests are easy & she curves heavy
You have to pay $30 for an app for attendance. Like someone else said, she reads of the publisher's PowerPoints and adds absolutely nothing to them. I didn't study for her tests and averaged an 82; they were filled with "common sense" questions. HW is okay, didn't gain much from it. Take another professor if you can.
This Professor is truly so sweet, but the way she handles attendance is weird. You need to download an app that checks your location to see if you're in class. Besides that her lectures aren't very helpful and you essentially learn on your own, but the content is really easy and it's impossible to fail.
She speeds through lecture, and when she's running out of time, she'll go faster to not fall behind in her schedule. She doesn't relate material in an enjoyable/memorable way to learn it. I felt there was no point coming to class because I had to go home and learn the material on my own because she is not good at teaching at all. DO NOT TAKE HER!
Straight up the worst professor. Goes off-topic for ~30-45 minutes of each class, the actual lecture isn't even text, it's pictures most of the time and when it is text she only reads off the slide and moves on. Worries more about attendance than you learning. You have to pay $30 purely to mark yourself in class as present otherwise you're absent.
Professor requires an app that costs 30 bucks to take attendance. To which she cares more about than the material. Learned more with the long homework assignments she gave us. Which again have to pay for on top of tuition. Gives lectures about behavior of her students rather than teaching the course. Her criteria is clear and there is extra credit.
This was such a bad class. You have to pay for attendance and then she tracks your location to see if you are here. If you aren't here your grade drops. If you leave a second early from class, she does another attendance. She couldn't even go over her own exam to see if its good and kept on interrupting us because she made mistakes. Don't take her.
I never say this but if you can avoid taking her, avoid it. Especially if you're young and excited about psych. I have watched her over and over again inadvertently suggest to my classmates that they may not be cut out for a clinical psych career. It's subtle, but she talks to you like a child and corrects you when not necessary. Avoid.
Professor Blum did not feel connected to the class I was in. She had us download this website for our text book and that website did a better job of teaching us than she did. Went to her office hours once and she seem unbothered when I asked her a question. I avoid her classes because of all the extra hoops you have to go through to be in her class
I wouldn't recommend taking her class. She never taught. She gives you an hour to take the online test but its 50 long questions. class is mandatory but she doesn't teach. She says top hat and attendance won't affect grade, why do you think I got a C. (it matters). DONT TAKE HER
BELIEVE ALL THE BAD REVIEWS! "Study guides" were useless, read the WHOLE textbook and good luck. Only gave an hr for 50 question exams which were vague and confusing. When the whole class asked her to extend time by at least 15 mins or shorten the questions she immediately said no and made petty remarks. Never felt so unsupported in a class.
I think it's important to understand that I, and other students, received A's in the class and still unanimously agreed to never take this professor again. She shows up to class late and unrelatedly blames students, she condescendingly answers questions (if she answers them without getting distracted), and is terrible at getting through her ppts.
Worst PSY class I have ever taken at CSUN so far. Read bad reviews and do not take this class if you can
Worst professor ever! Forces a $40-50 attendance app that tracks you which is falsely linked to final grade. Boring, unhelpful lectures full of irrelevant rambling. Late for exams, starting an hour behind. Exams unrelated to lectures. Skip classand you will learn more. AVOID HER!
Lots of reading for this class if you want to pass with an A.There are three exams worth most of your grade. We have to purchase a textbook as well as a subscription to Tophat, which is for attendance and tracks your location. Which I find to be an unnecessary purchase. Class discussions are encouraged although take a lot of time away from lecture.
Do not take this professor if you actually want to learn. They have you buy an app for attendence that tracks your location to make sure you are on campus and of not there you lose points, mentioned how its part of your grade when in the end its not and she lied. lectures arent even interesting and in the end you need to teach yourself.
Never been so uninterested in a Psych class as a Psych major. Requires a textbook & a TopHat subscription for attendance with location verification; sharing the attendance code is useless. Her lectures have no direction, skipping some slides & spending time on others that were not relevant to the exam. I skipped lectures & did the readings myself.
The professor makes you pay to get an app to check in for attendance which is awful because the site sometimes crashes. The homework doesn't bring up your grades if you were to fail one of the exams. And be careful when doing the sona credits because you can potentially not get the credits.
This is the first time l've never enjoyed a psych class. In all honestly I truly didn't feel that she cared enough to help her students succeed in her class (came off blunt) She read off of lecture slides, really redundant, It would've been more helpful if she seemed genuinely enthusiastic about psych and engaged with her personality more. 339/350
It's no wonder she makes students pay for attendance, noone wants to show up. The lectures are ridiculous heavy & pointless. Get any other professor but this one. I had to study 10x harder than I regularly do, & still didn't succeed a great grade. More so bc her exams r worded weirdly, & doesnt specify what to mainly focus on , very absurd
Will have to pay for a TopHat subscription that's $33.00 make sure that you pay for it on the site itself. Have to also pay for the Cengage app to do the homework but the textbook will be from a CSUNDIGITALAcess app which is 90ish dollars but you don't pay that until mid-semester of class
As your grade will be dependent on how well you study for your three exams, make sure to do so. Prepare yourself to read excessively; even perfect grades on your homework assignments won't have a significant impact on your final grade. Get ready to learn on your own.
Prof Blum is one of the most boring lectures I have ever had. All she does is talk in a monotone voice for three hours. She constantly gets caught up in unrelated tangents. Also she requires you pay for an online attendance program, instead of just taking attendance the normal way.
As a student, I wasn't so fond of the way she approached attendance.
The professor's lectures lack direction, and the required attendance app with location tracking feels unnecessary. However, with some self-study using resources like unstuck ai, I was still able to do well in the class.
Horrible! Don't take her! A ton of homework and get ready to read a lot! Her exams are confusing and hard!
I don't understand the negativity on here for Dr. Blum. She was incredibly helpful to me during a difficult semester. You must read the textbook, do the homework, and attend class to get a very good grade. In my opinion, that made for an easy A.
Get ready for the hardest class.
Do not take this professor. The 3 exams are extremely hard and do not even bother to study with the study guide. There is so much homework and it barely counts towards your grade. Most boring lecture.
Professor reads directly from slides that are posted online, making in person lectures redundant. Despite this, she requires students to purchase the Top Hat app to mark attendance, which is mandatory for points, essentially charging students to confirm they're present for content they could read on their own. On a positive note, class is easy.
Didn't like the way that she lectured. Makes you pay for Top Hat and an online textbook. There are three exams and they are graded on a curve. She does give extra credit.
The biggest issue is the ridiculously expensive attendance app she uses (Top Hat) which maps the student's location within a certain radius. In this day and age, that so dangerous as students have no idea where that data is going and how it is being used. The tests are confusing and unclear, a lot of the questions could have more than 1 answer.
On the first day a girl in the front row burst into tears when she saw how much reading was required of us, so that should give you an idea of the course load. By the second week, at least 40% of the class had dropped. Mostly verbatim readings from the textbook, but still requires mandatory attendance, which you have to pay to be marked for.
Glorified PowerPoint reader as she does not elaborate on her slides in lecture. You have to pay for an attendance app and it's mandatory. 1 or even sometimes 2 hw assignments assigned a week each with about 90-100 questions. 3 exams total but I found myself teaching myself the material as her lectures weren't helpful and actually quite boring.

Expect to ruin your GPA because of a useless class with a professor who just yaps all lecture long and has this weird attendance app that you have to pay for, and if you don't participate in class or with points, your grade will fall tremendously. EXAMS ARE HARD. ruined my gpa smh.
Worst class ever. The tests are hard and almost everyone in the class was struggling. The lectures were super boring the professor just read straight off the slides with no real explanations. It felt like a waste of time. On top of that you have to pay for attendance and extra materials that cost over $80, which makes no sense. DONT CHOOSE HER.
DON'T READ THE REVIEWS AND TURN AWAY - This professor is extremely misunderstood and disrespected. She gives amazing study guides for her exams, extra credit, and she loves participation. I understand attendance and participation can be annoying, but it's a UD college course.. it's not supposed to be easy...
This was the most mentally draining class. I pride myself on keeping my GPA high. If you want a good GPA AVOID THIS CLASS! Her study guides are pretty much reading for hours. It would be different if we didn't have 6 CHAPTERS AT A TIME. She changes her teaching only when she gets evaluated to look good. I could go on…JUST DONT TAKE THIS CLASS
DO NOT TAKE; classes are just her reading off slides, being unable to give students straight answers to their questions on the material, and beyond boring. Exams cover a minimum of 5 chapters, very difficult to study for. openly spoke about student accommodations while on the microphone, and changed lectures/teaching style when being evaluated. RUN
Never written a review but she deserves it. Do not take this class unless you want attendance to be the only thing you care about for a semester. No idea what she's talking about, what to test us on, and only cares that we log into top hat to complete the location check it puts us through. If her class wasn't so agonizing this wouldn't be an issue.
I want to give her grace because she seems nice but very out of touch. The class is hard to sit thru & very boring. I succeeded by teaching myself the material. Lectures are unhelpful and she reads straight from the textbook. Attendance policies are unfair to low-income students. She unfortunately changed her teaching only when being evaluated.
She was awesome.
To pass the class with an A, use the study guide and read the highlighted parts of the textbook. It shows the highlights through the chapters on Smart Book. Quiz yourself with the chapters. Exams are 60%, but the class was pretty interesting. Also there's extra credit opportunities.
HW is good and basically a guaranteed 100 if you finish it, and the Quest assignments can be fun. Lectures are dry, and rehearse info already learned on the HW. Attendance software costs $30 and doesn't always even work right. Contacted her about an attendance error and she blew me off because I didn't notice it the day it happened. Not too hard.
$30 attendance program and $72 textbook. Attendance is 13% of grade & exams are 60%. 50 multiple choice q's exam with a study guide of 30 pages. I got an A by NEVER missing class, turning every assignment, writing down extra credit tophat q's, and studying every section of the textbook the study guide includes. Teacher is alright; HEAVY workload GL
You learn more about TopHat than psy313, study guides are basically you reading the chapters start to finish with no REAL emphasis on what will be on a 50 question exam, i may complain about being in this course in the discord but it comes from an honor roll and full-time student with a full-time JOB so i will advise someone else to avoid this.
I really did want to like her, especially because 313 dove into a favorite topic of mine. After I had missed a few (three at most) classes I was so behind because of the TopHat questions. I tried to like her and ignore her reviews, but there is no support in the class and for the very first time of my life I decided to drop the class entirely.
Overall topics are easy, but the professor doesn't go in depth on topic, we don't even finish the lecture slides. Uses top hat for attendance which cost money. If you can find another professor for psych 313 I suggest you do so
Exams were highly difficult as she used the textbook heavily. All she did was read directly from the slides. It was a lot of self-teaching. Just study hard and attend class as you get points for it, and you'll be fine. People expect an easy A but that's not how it works in college.
Unironically I've never had a professor I've disliked this much. Prof. Blum's attendance policy with her app TopHat is tiring and requires internet service (not guaranteed in large auditoriums). Test knowledge relies on each week's worth of 150+ homework questions as she provides no insight in lectures outside of reading directly off of her slides.
If you're expecting to learn anything, you're gonna have to read the book on your own. Professor Blum's lectures normally consist of her reading off slides for over an hour without expansion/elaboration. Get ready to pay for an app called Top Hat, which uses your location to take the mandatory attendance. Avoid this professor at all costs.
Professor Blum was the worst instructor I have had at CSUN. Her responses to students were dismissive, which made it difficult to ask questions. Lectures were her reading directly from the slides, with little explanation. Grades were based on exams, attendance, and weekly hw assignments with over 150 questions. Do not take this Professor.
Lectures heavily repeat homework, Dr. Blum falls behind, and students must self-teach to meet deadlines. Attendance is mandatory via paid TopHat ($100+) with location tracking. If you can self-study and teach yourself, an A is easy; if you want support, avoid.
