My favorite class and prof at Normandale, such a FUN FUN class, and Nancy will help you at any time. She is easy to get ahold of and is very good at grading stuff. 10 short little papers, 2 big essays and 4 unit tests and thats it. Both very highly reocommended!
I haven't quite figured out if her class is good or not.... she talks the WHOLE class period and u are supposed to take notes. Then ur not really sure what will be on the tests... she hands out a guide but says "not all of this will be on the exam and there are somethings that are not on here that will be on the exam." ....????....
She is a really nice professor, but her lectures tend to be boring unless you are interested in the topics she talks about! Its a pretty easy class and could be interesting, and she was helpful outside of class!
she is a wonderful teacher. she was very energetic and always helpful. class is a lot of lecturing and videos but she makes it rather interesting and there is a lot of in class participating. she is my favorite teacher at normandale so far
Nancy is in all seriousness my favorite teacher at Normandale. Her teaching style and her overall personality are exemplary and infectious. She's always willing to help students with any questions and concerns, and she likes to inject a bit of humor into every class. She made three hours every Wednesday night fly by.
I went into this class thinking that it would be a pretty interesting class but didn't expect to love it as much as I did. Nancy's teaching style made the topics so clear and easy to learn while being able to dig deep into the material. It has been my favorite class to date!
Rather obnoxious at first but you warm up to her. Somewhat boring material but she makes it interesting. Very giggly and bubbly. 2 small papers, lots of reading (summaries), and 3 tests. Attendance is mandatory but you can miss 6 days without it affecting your grade. Her lectures are VERY helpful tho! take lots of notes! It will help on the tests!
Nancy makes this class interesting. I don't know if I'd say the same about anyone else though... Take good notes on lectures and if you miss a day get the notes from someone else they are very helpful! :)
I dread showing up to mindlessly sit in class. If you are interested in learning anything useful in this class don't bother. If you are looking for an easy class that is monotonous, repetitive and painfully basic, this is the one for you. Expectations are set exceedingly low. Take Love, Sex and Family with another teacher.
love, sex, and family (think it's 1104). Nancy is not a bad lady, but I felt like I was still in high school. She's very weird about laptops and cell phones. However, she does care, notes were extremely helpful, and she will review your papers with you which helped me get an A. If you show up late; you're absent.. that annoyed me.
Good teacher, don't take her class at 8am unless you are a morning person. Most of the class is lecutre and it is easy to fall asleep and she takes off points. Overall interesting, but a little nutty lol
Great professor!Every class is a discussion. If you take notes and study you will do great! We used 2 textbooks (one hardcover, one paperback)- I didn't read the hardcover book at all and I got a high A. She covers all of it in class (except for a couple terms, which you'll get on a study guide). Participate in class discussions and she will love u
Soc.- She is very nutty, but makes the class interesting. She is a good professor, explains lectures well with real examples. Attendance is MANDATORY. Annoying but half way through she stops taking attendance. Tests are okay, study well and you should be fine!
I don't know what those people are talking about, she is great! She is super funny and and makes class fun. She explains everything well, has a well planned out syllabus, she is a little strict, but we're all adults here. People need to stop blaming her for their own irresponsibilities, she is a great professor! Just read the chapters & youll be fi
Worst teacher i've ever had. Any time I had a question, she made me feel stupid. On test day, I didn't have a #2 pencil, so I asked her if I could borrow one, because she had a little box of them, and she told me no, so I had to leave class to go to the school store to buy one, and on top of that, she marked me absent.
one of the best teachers at normandale. very informative and led very good class discussions and made it fun to be at class everyday.
She was a nice teacher, but I felt like a child whenever I was in her class. Treated us like middle schoolers with role call and everything. She was helpful for the most part and her papers are easy A's. Take this class if you need a GPA booster.
She is an amazing professor! We have two 100 point reflection papers, but she revises them before hand for you! She answers all of your questions, and as long as you do all of the work you will end up with a fantastic grade. She is also has a sense of humor. She is also very understanding about everything. I recommend her!
Loved taking this class. Nancy kept it interesting and she stayed on schedule with the syllabus. Easy to know what and when an assignment was due. Its a show up class and most of what is needed for assignments and tests is in the lecture notes. I would jump at the chance to take another class of hers. Easy, interesting, and on topic.
Awesome teacher I took her for Love, sex and family. Very easy and her lecture covers all the material needed.
i found her hard to understand sometimes in class lectures. she would ask you a question and give an answer, she would say "not quite" and rephrase it in your own words, so that it sounds better. same goes with essays. she tweaks your writing skills so that it makes sense to her writing style.
Easy A, extremely helpful(not that you will need it), Her lectures cover everything on the Exams. She also gives study guides. She is a very lovely person
Nancy is a very sweet lady. She is highly interested in what she teaches which helps keep her students interested. Go to class and take lecture notes, and there is no doubt the you will do fine!
Great lady! Knows what she's talking about & she cares. Very helpful! I recommend her!
Nancy is weird. Sweet but weird & helpful the lecture notes are very helpful for the exam, take the notes & you'll do great. LOTS of reading! There are summaries do weekly (short articles) but the summaries only have to be 8-10 sentences. She takes attendance randomly if you show up after attendance you're marked late you get 6 freebies. take her!
Dr. Claycomb is very intelligent and well informed about sociology. The class is can be dry at times, though that is probably the nature of the material. The attendance "policy" varies day-to-day, depending on when she feels like or remembers to take it. The tests are straightforward and basic as are the two essays and reading summaries.
Nancy is amazing! She is the sweetest lady, and is always willing to help. Her tests are not obviously easy, but as long you study, you will be set. If you talk, or do any other distracting thing in class, she will politely call you out so you stop.
Nancy keeps the class involved in lectures and is always willing to help if you go to her during her office hours. She will read over and correct your draft for a paper and help you get the best grade you can. Always quick to respond to emails when I had questions regarding a test that I was studying for. Wonderful teacher, fun class!
I'm not big into sociology, but I needed it for my AA and Nancy made it really interesting and she was very funny and nice, I'm glad I got her for a teacher.
She is very passionate about the subject and certain parts of it. She gets very excited and goes into extreme detail about some things but not others and tests on some weird stuff. Very quirky... She does have a way of making you feel dumb if you aren't conveying what you thought was what she was talking about.
Although Nancy Claycomb provides her students with materials such as (somewhat) clear study guides and other means of achieving a good grade, she is not an excellent teacher. She is unwilling to answer even brief test questions outside of her office hours and requires attendance for a class you don't even need to go to nor enjoy.
Nancy is beyond great! I've had her for both Intro to Sociology and Love, Sex, and Family. It's a very note based class, there are two reflection papers which are worth as much as an exam. She has 5 exams and no final exam. She's always willing to help if you ASK! Homework and Exams are pretty straight forward.
Honestly, I didn't know what to expect when I took her Love, Sex, and Family class. Boy oh boy am I glad I did! Nancy made the class really interesting. She's fun and energetic. Just be ready for a lot of reading and homework. You'd get two reflection papers that aren't too bad, and her tests are pretty easy. If you have any questions, she's there.
Her syllabus is 11 pages long. Took her an hour and a half to talk about it. She got off topic very easily. She was a very nice lady, but I didn't enjoy her much as a teacher. It was very hard for me to follow along with her because she said "umm" so much.
One of my favorite teachers at Normandale. Super sweet and not very harsh at all. Do all your work and show up to class and you'll be fine.
Nancy's lectures can be a bit tedious as she will repeat the same point a few times by stating a point and asking a student to repeat the point then restating the point. It wouldn't be as much of a problem if it didn't take so long to do but overall the class is pretty easy. She will grade your rough drafts, a free A if you show up and do it.
You will have to come to class to pass. She is very nice. She tells a joke to start the day. The tests aren't too hard especially if you listen to the lectures, do the homeworks, and review a little.
She is very inviting with a warm personality, however, it was hard for me to stay motivated through the semester. Deadlines are very clear and the papers aren't very hard.
She was one of my favorite teachers! She really gets to know her students and she does typically take attendance for participation points, so show up. Her class schedule is super clear an easy to fallow. Lectures are fun and she connects material to real life / current events
Nancy is really nice. You warm up to her over the course of the semester. However, she doesn't always answer questions well. The first test was ridiculously easy but the rest were more difficult. She's kind of a tough grader on papers and she has a three page limit. It was tough to get all the info she asked for on to three pages.
She mostly lectures but starts the day with fun jokes. Easy to talk to for help, gives clear guidelines and due dates. Make sure to take notes in class since that material will be on the exams.
Nancy was awesome, she was very inclusive and pulled you into class and helped me enjoy it. The material was very intriguing and she was an easy grader when it came to the term project.
Nancy is a hilarious teacher and her lectures are sometimes boring but her humor makes it interesting. The class was easy.
Nancy is very helpful and fast to help you out if you need it. By far the easiest class I have taken, all you need to do is read your text book and any short articles she may give you and all the answers you could ever need for the homework, tests, and quizzes are right there. Good class if you are interested about the world, and its people.
First, her expectation is too high. She expects you to not make mistake or have problems. For example, I am a full time worker & student and I get off work at 10 pm and maybe make it home around 10:30 or 10:45. I had problems submitting my assignment in the Dropbox so I emailed it to her. She would not accept it.
Nancy really enjoys teaching sociology. She can be a bit all over the place, but in the best way possible. Take her class!
Nancy is a very caring professor. She gets extremely happy when her students are in the classroom and truly cares about everyone. The homework is fairly easy, you get 100% as long as you make your thoughts clear. The tests are a little difficult, so you will need to read some of the chapters. But, overall a great teacher.
This professor is good. She is very caring and will work with you to help you get a good grade. She allows a 6 unexcused absences without punishment. She has a very strict no phone policy that you will hear about right before every test. She seems confused sometimes during lecture and reads right off her notes. Read textbook for test!!!
Nancy is a great teacher and is very caring towards her students. Her class is very straight forward so there is little miscommunication on what is expected. She is very funny so her lectures are entertaining. She is strict on attendance and phones, but that's not much to ask for. Only got a B because I was taking 4 other sciences along with this.
She cares about her students, and is very approachable. Not that much homework assigned. There is a research project you have to do but she gives you plenty of time and feedback. She has a hard time answering questions, and her feedback isn't always helpful. However, If you are in class for notes and read textbook its an easy class.
Her grading style is not great, she takes WEEKS to grade anything turned in even a day late. She just keeps grading other things and skips grading the late work. She also takes awhile to grade things turned in on time. If this doesn't matter to you, the class is okay. She is fairly nice, attendance matters, 2 papers and a lot of textbook reading.
Nancy is an amazing instructor, she cares about her students and is hilarious. The tests are kind of tough, but study and talk to her if you have any questions regarding that. I would recommend her to anyone taking sociology classes. She knows what she is talking about, provides good statistical data, and encourages others to participate.
I loved this class, and Nancy was amazing. Shes very very organized and made the homework feel super underwhelming. All of the homework was writing, so as long as you know the basics its not difficult. The information was interesting, and the tests were simple with all multiple choice questions. Make sure to use the study guide she gives out.
W&P is an engaging class. It's organized. Weekly chapter readings, weekly homework questions and a weekly chapter quiz. Every 2 chapters, there's an exam. As long as you read the chapter, you'll be fine. The textbook is important. @ reflection papers and those are all based on personal experience and are APA format. Would recommend this course!
Nancy's class was very organized and set up well. Follow the course schedule and keep up with the readings. There is 10 homework assignments, all are which pretty easy. There is 5 exams and on 2 units per test. Her lectures are very valuable to do well on the exams. Follow her study guide and you will do fine!
Nancy cares about her students and the subject, but her lectures and the textbook are repetitive of each other, which gets long and boring. Also, her attendance policy is strict and frustrating. If you're even a few minutes late, you're marked absent. The class is really easy, though, so if you just need the credits it'll work.
just come to class everyday and you will at least a high B. She has a strict attendance policy with you can miss the max of 6 days. So if you have trouble with getting to school on time don't take her class. She was a very nice person and made everyone feel comfortable in the class.
Nancy is a great professor. She's really passionate about the subject and wants her students to be as well. The assignments are fairly easy, and she accepts late work. The tests are easy ONLY if you read the textbook; the questions are taken directly from it. Overall a great professor.
Nancy is clearly passionate in what she does. She cares about the students and the material. Attendance is taken every class, and is worth a sizeable number of points. Tests are very easy, and are much like the study guides. Lectures are somewhat repetitive and could be shorter. Reading textbook not mandatory, but useful to get vocab and context.
I took Nacy's Love, Sex, and Family class online. Can be a little late on updating grades but shes gets them in eventually! Pretty easy class load that's super straightforward. A quiz and some homework questions each week, two easy reflection papers, and 5 Exams. I spent less than 2-3 hours on this class a week. Easy A and I've learned quite a bit!
The expectations for success in this class were very clear. Ms Claycomb would post periodic encouragements to the students and also reminders for when things were upcoming. The units were formatted with manageable time limits, and she made it very clear what her expectations were. She was accessible for questions and helpful with feedback.
This professor does not care about her students. Her study guides do not match her tests. She doesnt really do enough to be there for her students and doesnt care about students life outside of class so she doesnt consider excuses and things like that. I dont recommend this class or teacher for anyone.
very kind and you can tell she enjoys her job. Does like to speak in third person and read off of Word documents instead of a powerpoint so if that bothers you... don't take her as a professor
She's a great lady and is very kind. However, her sociology lectures can be very dry. skim the textbook and you should be okay. She's a sweet lady and wants you to succeed. She posts reminders and is very organized.
Do NOT take this professor. You will regret it.
This professor was a very inconsistent grader. Her feedback didn't always make sense. Her lectures and notes were easy to follow and she also gave a study guide for the tests but the study guides only covered part of the information on the test. Make sure you read the textbook, questions on the test will often be information on covered in class.
I took a summer online class over the course of a month and the amount of work that she made us do was a lot. The exams that she gave us were tough and difficult, and she's a very tough grader on essays. No matter how many times I ran my paper through a grammar/spelling checking program, she would always say 'Please proofread your paper'.
The most major of my problems were her incredibly inconsistent grading methods, her lack of helpful feedback, her inability to assist you on any projects, and the fact that at the end of the semester me and my friend in the class had to add up our grade and found out we were was an entire letter grade off of what she posted in eservices.
The textbook was unhelpful, Nancy provided little to no help and often was rude in emails. Gave little to no reason for points being taken off. I'd recommend looking elsewhere for a professor.
Boring, this class is heavy on reading.I took this class in t summer and we had quiz, homework, discussion, exam, lecture, video, notes, reading article, reading chapters every 3 days. This was exhausting. Didn't learn much because it was too exhausting to read and keep up. Lectures are so boring and dry, tough grader, Its impossible to please her.
If you're a sociology major she's pretty great and way better than any other SOC instructor at NCC. She uses rubrics to grade, so most things are made clear. She sticks to the course schedule she gives you at the beginning of the semester and drops your lowest exam and lowest homework. Overall, she's pretty nice and wants to help.
Terrible
Very rude in emails and her lectures were very boring and reading intensive, which made it difficult to actually want to learn.
Nancy always says "please proof read your assignment" and deducts points without any further explanation. I do proof read my assignments... there weren't any errors... ever! Through it all, it wasn't worth it. Don't take her!! It is not worth all the hassle. I wish I could take it all back and never enroll in this course with this instructor.
Claycomb is absolutely the worst professor I've ever taken! Every week, you had to do a quiz, discussion, 250-500 word homework assignment, and a challenging exam every 1-3 weeks. This class is dreadful, and you don't learn much from it. Take a regular Sociology class instead because you nor I should not have to cry about this class's difficulty.
This is a review for Wealth & Poverty. Nancy's online classes are well organized. Nancy provides an overview and notes for every unit. I would definitely take this online course with Nancy again. The quizzes and exams are multiple choice and open book. They are not at all challenging if you have completed the assigned work in the overviews. 10/10
This is a review for Love, S*x, & Family. Nancy's online classes are well organized. Nancy provides an overview and notes for every unit. I would definitely take this online course with Nancy again. The quizzes and exams are multiple choice and open book. They are not at all challenging if you have completed the assigned work in the overviews.10/10
Just a wonderful person. Easy class, and she's very passionate about it. The text was insightful and she assigns a video, article, discussion, and homework for each section, so you shouldn't slack on it.
Great prof, very kind! Class is a very easy A. 1 quiz, written assignment, and discussion post each week. 5 open note Exams that cover every 2 units. Do the work on time read the material and get an A.
This class was online. Never saw Nancy once she didn't post lectures. Nancy has clear expectations for her class and keeps on schedule. Read a chapter every week, along with an article and video, weekly papers (I believe under 500 words in all), weekly discussions, and 5 exams. As long as you do the work and apply critical thinking you'll get an A.
There is quite a bit of reading and a few homework assignments every week but it stays pretty consistent and as long as you don't wait till the last minute it's not too hard. I took this class online so I never met her but she seemed like a nice person from what I've seen of her through lecture videos. Also a pretty easy grader.
Honestly enjoyed her lectures, but her homework makes no sense. I answer her questions to the best of my abilities, making sure to hit all of the points, and I have received straight Fs. My exams and quizzes have been straight As, however.
When I had any problems she was far from understanding. Written assignments she would grade me terribly, but anything she couldn't grade, I would get nearly a 100% on. So I don't know if my quality of work was bad, but she continued to give me less and less points as the year went on. Did not provide any useful feedback either.
Professor Nancy has a late work deadline policy for partial credit, which I didn't think I'd need, but ended up abusing LOL. I didn't apply myself as much as I should've which is mostly my fault-- life was winning that semester... anyway. Thought provoking content, straightforward expectations, nothing too crazy. Prof was engaging and super nice!
She was not understanding at all when technological difficulties would arise (outside of my control of the standards set in syllabus) otherwise the class was ok. Wouldn't recommend her ever.
Overall mid. The tests weren't hard, but accounted for a large portion of the grade & covered material not included in the study guides. She's strict on the syllabus, but offers late credit for assignments. If you want a more hands-on teacher, I wouldn't recommend her, but if you need the credits and don't mind doing "busy work," she's fine.
