Excruciatingly TOUGH!! I did as much work for the 1 credit Life time fit & well as some of my 3 credit classes! I was in the overweight/over 40 class, no diference. Instead of encouraging student who really needed it, she made them feel bad at themselves.
She is the devil. It was one of the worst classes I ever had to take. She was cold and uncaring.
She is the worst PE teacher I ever had! She worked peple over like a slave driver and made us do more work than was necessary for the course! Not to mention she is not at all caring or understanding.
This course will go down as my most unpleasant collegiate experiences ever. She worked us out in class at a ridiculous rate. Luckily for me I was 20 at the time....some of the over 50 year old students were subjected to step routines and intense cardio
She the worst professor ever

Dr. Crippen isn't as bad as others describe below. It's true that she does work the hell out of you. That is the major drawback...otherwise a nice lady, just don't sign up thinking it's going to be easy.
Great Teacher, REALLY knows what she is teaching. America thinks that taking pills and starving yourself is the way to be fit and lose weight. She teaches the right way and the people who think it is too hard are the ones that need to listen!
Take the class online. As long as you do all the assignments and turn them in on time it is an easy A. A few of the assignments are a little hard to figure out but she is available for questions.
Does not explain assignments....does not return emails or telephone calls.
dont ever take her - she's horrible!
she is VERY insensitive with her comments on people who are NOT THIN. she OVER reiterates how disgusting fat is , her words "greasy gloppy gooey yellow ugly fat" gee we all can't be a size -2. VERY insensitive. not a good thing for someone in her position of power.
Professor Crippen is amazing! Take her but know that you will work. This is not high school PE but you will learn a lot! Do your assignments, and work as hard as you would for any class and you will get a lot out of it. PS- watch for her daughter- she is so hot!
Ok, there are some fatass's that are angry that they didn't pass. Mrs Crippen does make you exercise, but it is a gym class. She is very funny and an enjoyable woman. I would take her class again anyday. Plus at the end of the year you can pay $150 donation to ACTS and get to skip the final!
do the work and stop being so self concious. Everyone needs to work out, everyone needs to get into shape. She WILL work you and that's understandable seeing as its a GYM CLASS. Stop being lazy and do the work...easiest A ever!
She NEVER returns her emails or telephone calls...if you want to pass her class be a brown noser...i wont ever take her class if i had a choice...its only fun if you work really hard but she never explains her assignments.
Crippen gave me a zero for one assignment I had worked on for a week and accused me of not trying. For the next assignment, her instructions were very unclear and I emailed her twice with questions. She didnt answer until it was too late to get any points for the assignment which I had spent 3 days on
Absolutely impossible women, never answers questions and assignments are very unclear, suck up to her to pass then NEVER go near her again. It wouldnt be so difficult but she makes it impossible. She makes up assignment parts that werent there after you turn it in.
where do they hire these people from? I payed out of pocket for her to teach me and she DOES NOT. The only way to get in contact with her is to visit her office which we should not have to do. Avoid this you-know-what at all costs.
Her class was okay
yes, Ms. Crippen does work you out and you will learn a lot from her but she is not very helpful at all, she is not really good about explaining assignments.
Brilliant class. However, many people seem to flunk it because they're reluctant to exercise and do their homework--if you don’t want to exercise, then to don’t register for a PE class. Dr. Crippen does her job very well, and is an excellent teacher. Frankly, there is much to learn in her class...
Gives all questions that will be in the final. Just study, and do all work set, then you’re guaranteed to get an A…..easily.
Maybe she is better in person where you can actually make her answer your questions but online courses with this picky old woman are absolutely horrible. If you dont answer the questions just how she wanted you to, you fail. AVOID this horrible teacher whatever you do.
She gives very hard workouts, which I like. She gives a lot of written work, much of it confusing, which is fine. What I don't like is that she is so opiniated and stuck in the ways of the 80's, and gives bad advice about working out. If you already work out, just keep doing what you are doing,& write what she wants to hear on your workout log.
If you are a female, do not take her class! Every female I have known has not gotten above a C, while most males get an A whether or not they participate. I got a C in this course although I did all my work, got all A's (one B), I major in biology, and workout at the gym. She did not respond when I e-mailed her about my low grade. Not recommended!
This woman f'd me over. I paid good money to take this class and spent my summer doing her work and she failed me because of her unclear directions. I'm not sure how she performs in person but she is terrible on the web. I sent her 5 e-mails in a row and she finally responded after it was too late and made me fail my project. EVIL!
This is a hard class but is not so difficult. She makes you work out and do homework. But you get graded on how much effort you put in, so if you do the work you will pass with no problems. The people that fail don't do anything. I'd reccommend this class to anyone she is very supportive and encouraging. But be prepared to work hard!
Bad attitude, arrogant, stuck up
She is a mean old lady! She doesn't know what she's talking about as far as fitness goes. She must have stopped keeping up on the times years ago with regard to workouts. She works you very hard and is not impressed with any effort you put forth. I do NOT recommend her.

She will work you to the bone. Very hard workouts. I was sore for weeks at the beginning of the semester, but eventually got used to it. She is very energetic, she's like the energizer bunny, she keeps going and going and going and going. Interesting lectures.
Don't believe the hype! I can't speak for her regular class, but there was nothing wrong with the online class. Everything was laid out at the beginning of the semester. There is a lot of work for a 2cr class, but you will learn a LOT and get in shape. If you follow the directions and do all of the work, you should easily get an A. She is nice!wtf!
If you want to loose weight then take this class. If you try your best she will pass you with a B.
If you want to loose weight and willing to work for it don't miss taking this class is fun and it will teach you alot .... it's one of my favor it . i learn so much in her class ,If you do your work is easy "A"
absolutely horrible, dont take her class at all
I have to say that this has been my favorite class so far in college. This course has helped me a lot with my health. This woman knows her stuff! Superb! Highly recommend her course!
This teacher gave me a C that was undeserved. I attended class everyday, stayed in great shape, got an A on the exam, and turned in every project. If you have done the 4 things listed then you should consider obtaining at least B, which was not the case....Ms. Crippen's class was a terrible experience for this reason. I have a 3.5 GPA, and I have
Shes kinda Nutty, and she doesnt really live what she talks about, she doesn't even stretch!
ELI: I do not reccomend taking her class. She uses 20 year old software that makes it really hard if you bought your computer in the last 5 years. She uses a 2.5 floppy disk! She sounds like a condecending **** in emails too, even with the most legit questions. I dont reccomend her unless you have no other options. The work itself is kind of easy
Horrible, no people skills, poor response time, has trouble understanding very simple questions although she claims to be DR Crippen
The instructions are very unclear, the software very old, she's hard to contact, & she takes points off for *small* stuff. The instructions don't even specify some of the things she wants, yet she takes points off as if I'm supposed to already know exactly what she wants. Try NOT to take her! I'm a straight A student, and this class is torture...
Horrible teacher! I'm a straight A student and had to drop it so I wouldn't get a C. She doesn't understand that people don't have 3 hours a day to work out. Takes herself too seriously!
CRAP, She takes her self too seriously. The text book is a disk from 1986 and you have to pay 30 bucks for it. If you work out already she wants you to change your routine so it fits her class. She also wants you to loose weight even if youre trying to gain for sports.
This class was extremely easy as long as you completed all your homework and had good attendance. She gives notes every class which will be on your final and she requires a lot of fitness analysis work. But she gives Fall Semester the option of getting out of the final by attending an aerobithon, supporting a local homeless shelter. Easy A!!!
Terrible course. I had to kiss her a** just to get responses from her. At one point I had to contact the IT department to prove to her that my email was working, because she was insisting on a weekly basis that she was not receiving my emailed assignments. I have never been so frustrated in an online course before.
Terrible Terrible Terrible. PE should not be this hard. On top of it being needlessly difficult, she's a total ****. She insists on using a 2.5 floppy disk from 1984. My computer doesn't even use floppy disks, that was very frustrating. Believe it or not, I took 15 credits last semester and PE was my hardest class. I hate her, you will to.
Im taking the online class and it is TERRIBLE. NO NO NO NO. DONT TAKE IT!! IT SUCKS. SHE IS SO NOT HELPFUL AT ALL. SHE NEEDS EVERYTHING TO BE PERFECT.
She is very strict but honestly right to the point. If you don't screw around and just participate in class and turn in the assignments then you will do just fine. I enjoyed her class, it was tough but fun and I became a lot healthier. I suggest taking her PED class.
I took her class online and the lowest grades I had gotten on previous courses was a B. All of a sudden, for health (which was supposed to be my easy class), she was critiquing my work more specifically than by English teachers! Don't recommend online course, I had to drop out not to fail her class...
I took her ELI class online...horrible horrible teacher, her grading scale is insane, I'm a straight A student and because of her I have a 3.8 GPA now. She doesn't give extra credit, and trust me this class is a LOT of work for a PED class.
This professor is horrible. I don't know if she's any better in person, but her online class is the worst. She acts like she's an English teacher, but she's just a PE teacher. She thinks her class the only thing her students have to do with their lives. She doesn't answer questions and most of her instructions are unclear. Don'ttake her.
She's awesome. She won't sugarcoat things to boost your ego about yourself because she's a health professor, not your babysitting shrink. She DOES practice what she preaches and is upbeat. I don't recommend if you think you're the center of the universe or if you think health is dumb stuff to learn. You will hate it.
She's insane. Literally insane. The work load is more than what you would have in a Bio or literature class. It's just PE. She is a very strange woman. I thought I was doing great in her class until I got my final grades. I had 2 As, 2 Bs and well...the grade she gave me for her ridiculous course. Do yourself a favor and stay away from her
Everyone who doesn't like Dr. Crippen, get off your butts and WORK OUT! She helped me lose 2 clothes sizes, drop my BP to 90 over 50, lower my resting heart rate to 35 and I found the process so much fun!
Do not take this class with her. I have had hard classes and do my work and still she gives me low grades. She will take off points even if you send something in a couple minutes late. She does not answer back questions and she will take off points easily. Even if you do the work, it is feels almost impossible to get 100 percent and good feedback.
dont ever take class with her.shes mean and rude plus ugly.
I myself am not one for running and exercising, but Dr. Crippen was surprisingly a great teacher. I had to take a PED class and was absolutely not wanting to take her because of the reviews. After deciding to endure the class, I ended up liking PED. There is very little homework and as long as you show effort, its an easy A.
I AM A 4.0 STUDENT, STRAIGHT A'S EVEN IN STATS AND PRECAL. I TOOK HER CLASS AND GOT A B. ENOUGH SAID.. DON'T TAKE HER.
Worst professor I have ever had, absolutely horrible! I am a straight A student, until I took her class. She is insane! The workload is huge, and I worked my butt off, she does not want her students to succeed. She critisized my english, and said she could not read it, even though I had used the writing center, and I have gotten A grades in eng!
It's an online class which means that you don't get as much help you would get if you see the professor in person. It could be helpful if she could be a little more specific on what she wants you to write and how many paragraphs. I always lose points because I either didn't understood well or because the answer is not perfect.
This class is horrible. Plan to spend 10-12 hrs weekly on homework and getting points knocked off for grammer or if turning in one minute late. I would never recommend this class to anybody. It should be an easy A but I got a B with dedicating lots of effort and time. The workload is ridiculous.
i took her class in the summer, the class was enjoyable and as long as you did your work (20 min max before class is all you need) and you participate in the physical part of the class you'll get an A...i got a 100% in that class..that's how easy it was
This class is an easy A as long as you put the effort in. The academic part of the class is fairly simple, but she expects you to work when it comes to the workouts, which are actually really easy.
I thought this class would be fun, well, it's not! I dropped the class because I started to fail. Guess what, if you're going to take a teacher, take Robert Daniels. He gives the EXACT same assignments and guess what I came out of the class with, an A. This teacher is honestly just crazy, I haven't met one person who likes her.
Very hard grader. This is only a two credit class, yet it's harder than a four credit one. Has an interesting definition of late -- I took this class online and submitting an assignment minutes after a midnight due date is considered late. Never had that happen prior to this class.
definetly hurts your grade if your late. but she grades on effort no results so if you try you will have a good grade
1. She is lazy, she won't even read the forums, you lose points for not sending her ur forum and everyone you answered and their posts too. 2. Deadline is 11:59, Midnight is considered a day late. 3. She doesn't answer e-mails. Having her is like not having a teacher. At last count I've sent her 43, got 6 back, 5 of those were to the whole class
Do not take Crippen's class. The work is seemingly easy, but there's a lot of it and her expectations are impossible. Doesn't offer extra credit. She is not the most helpful, took her over a week to respond to emails.
I took this class last Fall as an elective, just because I thought it was going to be easy....wrong! While she is a nice lady, she is tough as nails. Anyone over 110lbs in her eyes is fat and you're going to hell if you even so much as look at mayonnaise! You take one big cumulative exam at the end of the semester, which sucks too.
Don't bother emailing because by the time she response it's to last anyway. I sent an assignment that went before 11:59pm yet I was took it was late. This should be a 3 credit class a lot of writing and research
I took this class last semester and it was pretty easy. We definitely had to work out every class but the work outs were not hard at all. As long as you showed up and put some effort into it you're fine. Yes there were several assignments but they were not time consuming. She's a nice lady and very knowledgable on the topic.I recieved an A.
I'm sorry...she really is not that good of a teacher. Not to mention she tells us that we have to submit multitple files but the server only allows 1. She takes forever to grade. If you take this class find a 6/8 week course (depending on semester) and a different teacher. It would be easier than her
Dr. Crippen definitely cares about fitness and makes that clear. As long as you show up and pay attention in lecture, and participate in the workouts, you'll be fine. Just make sure you turn in your assignments (which are EXTREMELY easy) on time!
The finial was pretty hard but its only 20%. Overall it was okay the field trip was fun.
1 hour of lecture. 1 hour of intense workout. Not what I had in mind for a PE class at community college. She is however very knowledgeable and cares alot about nutrition and fitness so I can't take that away from her. The workouts are too intense. It was like doing p90x for an hour.
Dr. Crippen cares about the health and well being of her students.
The assignments she assigns go hand in hand with her exams and you do learn from them. However, the expectations she has are impossible! If you turn in just one assignment a few minutes late, she takes off. If you only write 297 words instead of 300, she takes off. She's very hard to please, doesn't email back, and the workload is way too much.
Work outs are great for people that enjoy working out. Lectures are easy and fast. She is very knowledgeable. Assignments are somewhat hard and the test is as well.
you will definitely lose a lot of weight in this class, but the final exam is extremely hard and note taking is verbal, so bring a tape recorder or write fast..
Her PE class is HARD, she earned the name Killer Crippen. I never forgot her line "Don't cheat your body" as she encourages you to keep moving. She is a wealth of knowledge, and pushes you hard. I also took her backpacking class, the big hike was difficult but she did warn us in advance,I was a smoker so I had a harder time than the rest. Love her!
One of the worst teachers I've ever had. She grades way to hard for a health teacher and is unforgiving with her grades too. Not the friendliest either and doesn't email you back.
Not a hard class, but probably more work for a PE class than what you’d expect. Part of grade involves improving health-wise. Crippen can seem a bit harsh, which may work for some, but discourage others. She’ll work with your individual needs. Great class if you really want to improve your health & fitness. Not so great if you want easy PE credit.
Let me just start with I got a C in PE and I am highly athletic.... with that said.. I did enjoy this class. We played a lot of fun games i.e. tag, flag football etc. but the dietary project she has us do is HORRIBLE. The reason why I got a C. The class itself was fun though.
For a one credit class, she goes WAY over the top. I can't fault her, though, because she promises that if you participate, you'll lose 2% body fat or more, and I did. You'll really need to watch hydration and nutrition while you're in this class, but you'll get the grade you earn.
It was an easy class. The assignments were easy. But she was TOO STRICT on the due dates. I turned several of my assignments in, but got ZEROS FOR THEM ALL, because they were late. Didn't even get partial credit. It was extremely upsetting. I did all the work perfectly, yet FAILED the class because of that. Keep the due dates in mind or you'll pay.
She's not that bad. It's a physical class so expect that. As long as you are trying she doesn't care. I quit smoking and have continued to work out after this class. If you try you can learn a lot, and just attend and participate. DO THE HOMEWORK! If you want an A, it's easy stuff people.
If you are above a certain body fat %, you have to lose at least 2% body fat by the end of class. This created anxiety in me because I am fat and pretty lazy, but still managed it. I signed up for a 2 credit version not realizing I only needed 1, so i signed up for more work than was necessary, so be careful that you don't make the same mistake.
This class is awesome, First hour is lecture then the rest is working out. She seems tough during lecture then turns into the happiest lady ever during the workout. Her tests are super easy and she tries to prepare you for them. I lost 6% body fat during her class. TAKE HER!
I enjoyed the physical part of the class, but the paperwork SUCKED. I was so not prepared for all that paperwork, and if you're not one to mix homework with exercise, rethink this course. She's very tough on you, and really makes you work up a sweat the first ten minutes you're there. On the plus side, she makes that "Summer body" reality for you.
This course is tough! The material itself if straightforward. However, she is a very hard grader. She expects tons of details in your answers to the simplest questions. Her homework assignments are overwhelming, her tests are all short answer and essay with no word bank or multiple choice. I had to take this course twice to receive a B.
If you do not have easy access to a PC, do not take this class (or any online NOVA PE). The "textbook" is a CD program that is not compatible with Mac. I live too far from NOVA campus to go there for computers. Libraries and other campuses (I live near another university) don't allow the program to be run on their computers.
Expect a LOT of work. More work than you would have ever expected from an online Phys Ed class. Don't plan on turning anything in late; assignments are given low point values as-is, and point reduction for late work is FIRM. Buy the textbook, you'll regret it if you don't.
Get ready to get WHIPPED into shape. I dropped at least one pants-size taking her class. I loved the physical side of this class. The book/paper part was a LOT harder to keep up with.
Fairly easy class. Make your own workouts when doing the online class. Assignments due each week and she will give you feedback. The only thing is that I wish she had given us criteria of what our final exam was on. Wasn't sure what to study for it.
This class takes work. She gives lots of busy work. Do all the extra credit you will pass.
If you don't do the assignments right she demolishes your grade. It's do the work or fail miserably. Her class can be overwhelming for a PED online class. She provides too little credit points for an assignment. You literally write 7 paragraphs for like 3-5 points. I had to bust my butt to keep an A.
At NOVA, a PE class is taken seriously. Don't skip her class or you might not do well at the end of the course. You have to turn in your HW in on time or else your grade drops. Other than that she plays some awesome music while working out and she's helpful and very informative.
She is awesome. You could be able to get an easy A as long as you follow what she says.
She is nice and knowledgeable in her field. Make sure you attend every class and do your homework on time.
She makes the class way more in depth than it needs to be. She grades harder than any other teacher I've had and used to go to a university. She goes above and beyond on docking points off if you missed one question. ex: to answer a question, she gave links. The link to the question was down, i provided a screenshot and still got points docked off.
