Teaches and expects course work at 200 level. Impatient with students in class.
she is really not that hard, expects alot from you but lets you re-take almost all the quizes and tests!!
She has high standards, but she lets you re-take tests. If you really want to know your **** in chemistry, take her. You can't do well in her class if you're not welling to do the work.
Best Chemistry Instructor in the District. If you really want to learn chemistry take her, theres no one better.
Dude, you would be a fool not to take Mrs Crispen.
very challenging. most dedicated, committed teacher i've had here. Also very smart
For the Serious science student. Lazy, need not apply.
Horrible teacher
Best teacher I've ever had.
Excellent teacher. Probably one of the best ones I've had in the San Diego area. Knows what she's talking about. You can ask her any practical application for what you are learning and she'll have a logical answer.
Crispen is the Mom you never had! You'll be pissed while your in the course (living with her), but you'll love her to death the day you graduate her course, because she will prepare you for higher level work! Thanks Mrs. Crispen!
very difficult, and not very helpful
gives lots of stress. take homes take at least 18 hrs. challenging tests. do hw, problem sets, go to workshops, you'll do well. best chem teacher ever!
Lamest teacher ever. Disorganized, boring lectures w/ really tiresome calculus derivations (pre-req's don't require this!). Plays favorites, and is a general irritation. If you really want to learn, take with another teacher!
SHE may know what she's talking about, but the rest of the class struggles. Not helpful if you ask her to do problems. Lab stinks!
i took her because of her good ratings, but she is REALLY hard. i have been through 2 tutors already because they dont even know how to do the homework. make sure you have a strong background in 200, because she expects you to know everything. good luck
The only way to survive this class is to have good grades in Chem200 or have taken her previously. I took her because of her good ratings, but she is impossibly hard and very unorganized. Unless you're near genious, you'd have to have no life to study well and pass her class. Risk takers enter here!
Best Chemistry teacher ever. She prepares you for Real Chemistry. The other chem teachers are easy A's but will not prepare you for higher level chemistry. Those who are interested in Grad school, Med School or Pharm School take Crispen. Those looking for an easy A, find another professor.
worst teacher ever, especially if yo are not a favorite. She's not clear in her lectures, yet slums you with something you've never head of in class. If you are single and have no life, then go ahead and take her.
Take this class if it is the only class you will be taking. Way too much material, and not explained very well. She understands the material very well. But she's about the only one. Homework and tests present problems never seen before and she refuses to go over hard probs in class. Go to Mesa
IF YOU WANT TO -LEARN- BY FIRE! If not take another Professor, please. Crispin is relentless with the homework and exams. The only way to survive is to find a study group and stick together. It all pays off in the end, though. A great choice for all heading for O Chem and beyond.
If you want to learn chemistry take crispen. If you want an easy A look elsewhere. She will prep you for transfer and professional school. Best Professor at City College.
She is very knowledgable and doesnt mind taking the time to explain things to the class. If your just looking to get by in this class dont expect to not study or do homework. She is the hardest professor that I can imagine ever having but the best. She CHALLENGES YOU BUT YOU WILL LEARN. Good Luck
DON'T EXPECT ANY WORK TO BE RETURNED OR ASIGNED ON TIME. ORGANIZATIONAL SKILLS ARE SEVERELY LACKING. LECTURES ARE CONFUSING, UNSTRUCTURED, AND OFTEN START AND END 20-30 MINUTES LATER THAN SCHEDULED.
This class was extremely hard. She doesnt hand back papers on time and she acts like your an idiot if you ask questions. The best thing to do is Credit/No Credit. The class is only needed to take a higher chemistry anyway.
Horrible teacher. HW assignments take 15 hours to complete she expects you to spend 30 hrs per week on CHEM just to PASS! Very tough to get an A, Tests take 3.5 hrs! This lady is insane if she thinks that we have that kind of time. Lectures are unclear, she is the worst I have ever had. STAY AWAY
Has tenure but not much smarts. Coursework not returned for months, making it difficult to know if you are doing the work correctly before going into the exams. Mrs. Crispen squashed my enthusiasm for chemistry, made me feel hopelessly confused, and incapable of learning chemistry.
Worst teacher ever!!!
I thought that her class was awesome. I learned a lot and she was more than willing to help students out and explain material that we didn't get. She's an excellent instructor, in my opinion.
She will give you all the tools you need to become a chemistry whiz - however, you have to learn how to apply them inside and out if you want to do well in her class - there are NO shortcuts. She is very challenging, but respects her students and has high expectations for them. Great teacher!
This teacher waited until the week before finals to pass back ALL of our assignments. She gives 0 points on problems you get the right answer on. She grades everything on spelling, significant figures, and setups. But you can't adapt your work because you dont know until the end of the semester. I am an A student and I did A work- i got a C.
I really enjoyed her class. I had to roll up my sleeves and work but I'm a better person for it.
crispen is the devil!!! she is a really brutal teacher. Her tests are hard as hell but shes a very passionate teacher. I suggest if chemistry isnt yoour major and its not too important to you fnd someone else. otherwise be prepared to get aboard a one way trip to hell.
i dont know what you guys are talking about.i took her last year and i still have nightmares!she is HORRIBLE!her tests are rediculus.she says she gives partial credit, but to her that is 5/20 on one problem!yes each problem is worth 20 points.you have 3.5 hours to finish and it is rare that anyone ever does.she definitly the devil. RUN AWAY FAST!!!
Satan- need I say more? If you ask her a question you will be received by "What does the procedure say?" I wouldn't recommend her to anyone who actually needs to LEARN or to anyone seeking an "A."
Best teacher at City College Period.
She knows her stuff, but presentations are boring, and homeworks and exams are hard. Great preparation for the higher level chemistry, but if you need an easy A, don't take her. Always cranky, not very approachable, exams are really long, so are labs, and she is extremely picky on grading. Can still get an A, but really have to earn it.
Smartest teacher at City College. You will have to work your butt off but those of you out there that want an easy A and not learn anything well, I guess your not going anywhere in life. You get our of life what you put into life. In my opinion Mrs. Crispen is one of the best. A diamond in the rough.

do NOT take this teacher. i'll admit, she explains the chemistry concepts really well but her grading is CRAP. she was never clear on what she wanted for her labs and we didn't get back ANY graded labs until the semester was half over - we didn't know what we were doing wrong for 7 labs and got marked down for each of those 7 labs. WORST TEACHER EV
She is a rough teacher, very demanding. She grades hard. She is trying to "lift" everyone intellectually, and while accomplishing that for a few leaves a swath of broken dreams to pay for the success of those few. She will not cater. There is no lee way;excel or fail. Some of us are midlevel science studentswe should get midlevel grades, geniusonly.
WARNING: Crispen is not an easy instructor however she is fair. Expect to work and you will be rewarded with knowledge. If you are serious about learning chemistry take this course. If you want an easy A, take someone else.
No way in gods name can you get an A. Her beginning-class quizzes are stupid. Grades rough on the lab write-up. She is beyond intelligent to teach intro chem students. Unless you want a female Einstein for the semester, choose someone else. AND I'M NOT A LAZY STUDENT EITHER. Good luck if you have no choice to take her.
Expect bad reviews from people who have never been challenged before. Crispen is one of the best teachers ever-chem is a DIFFICULT subject!. If you are a serious student and willing to work hard and not be discouraged so easily take her class and ignore the bad reviews. Do people honestly think it will get easier in the next level? this is prep!
The best
I enjoy Crispen. She demands a lot of her students and the work is not easy but she is clear and fair. She also goes out of her way to accomodate the class.
I like her. She is hard but fair.
Mrs. Crispen is very nice and helpful. I went to see her in office hours and she thoroughly explained the areas I was having trouble with. She is tough though. Sink or swim mentality. But I made it through and I'm better prepared for the hard sciences. I recommend her.
Ms. Crispen is tough but thorough. If you want to learn I mean really learn Chemistry take Crispen. If you want an easy A take someone else.
I like her.
Great professor. Insanely brilliant and spoonfeeds the material. Crispen is very approachable and extremely kind. If you have any problems talk to her she will help you out.
Crispen is very organized, you will probably not get your homework back in a reasonable time but she more than makes up for late homework. Ms. Crispen is tough but I learned more from her than any other professor within the community college district.
Worst experience taking a chem class.... she makes you buy a packet with notes and then repeats EVERYTHING that is on the packet again. Class is very boring and her test are nothing like what she teaches. Don't take her, go to Mesa and take Chem there!

she teaches more like a university professor, and that's good. but she does make you learn the material. i recommend taking a different teacher for the 200 lab. 152 was not that difficult, and 200 was a little harder. but i passed them both. just be prepared to do a lot of studying. and she isn't very good at returning things. i would recomme
I like Mrs. Crispen. You will have to really learn chemistry you can't fly by the seat of your pants but the payoffs are enormous. If you want an easy A take someone else, If you want to go to a University and further your science education, take Mrs. Crispen.

i changed my major because of her. beware if you take this class.
Crispen is difficult, but nothing in life comes easy. Those who are searching for an easy A and not really looking to learn chemistry search elsewhere. Those who want to KNOW chemistry take Crispen.
Crispen teaches a tough course and is heavy on the red ink, however she is easy to talk to and she has a default grading curve. I'm taking her for Chem 200.
Great Professor. Difficult and expects the world on a silver platter but prepares us for the real academic world that lies ahead. Take Mrs. Crispen and you will learn LEARN Chemistry.
She is really hard for a CHEM LAB! Go for teacher: Fremland for your Chem teacher. I sat in another class because I missed a day in her class and I saw how little they do in comparrison to our Chem Lab. She studied at MIT & she's pretty damn smart she kind of gets annoyed w/ "simple" questions & should teach a higher level course. Still a nice lady
This woman drove me to the brink of suicide; granted, she does teach the hard stuff that will be required later in the chemistry world, but I had to much stuff going on in my life to focus hard-core in her class, so I dropped it.
I do not recommend taking this class with Prof Crispen. She is very disorganized. It is almost the end of the semester and i am still waiting on homework to be returned from Feb.Also, she makes it mandatory to go to an extra hour and a half workshop every week and if you are unable to attend those, she assigns these ridiculous essay assignments. By the way, I got an A, but still would never ever recommend her
She's highly unorganized never got anything back from her. She uses WebCt but doesn't use it well enough. She has a lecture notebook that school sells which helps a bit but still need the book to do some of the homework correctly. Her tests are hard even for somebody that has good study habits. Take it with somebody else if you can.
IF you really want to learn chem, than take Crispen, if not look elsewhere. The woman knows her stuff and has a unique approach to her teaching, which if you're lazy will freak you out. I would recommend her to everyone who need to LEARN chem. Thanks to her, I have developed an affinity for chem now!!!
DON"T TAKE IT WITH HER> I AM AN A STUDENT AND I FAIL IN HER CLASSS> I TOOK 200L and GOT AN EASY A> SHE NEVER RETURNS YOUR STUFF ON TIME AND WHEN SHE DOES ITS TOO LATE IF YOU ARE FAILING!!!!!
Very difficult to do well in class, in her intro she made it seem that if you had never taken chemistry this would be the class to take. What she failed to mention was that if you needed help it wouldn't be coming from her. She seems to have lost her passion for teaching and even worse enjoys talking down to her students. Skip her if you can!
FLAKY. I mean, really, seriously, flaky. Be prepared to wait several weeks for a one page quiz to be returned. Unpredictable with quiz questions, also. Lectures and homework may or may not adequately prepare students for quizzes and exams.
Crispen is simply the best. All of those who are complaining are going to have a hard time in life and will not make it at a 4 year institution. Crispen is tough and expects you to learn chemistry. If you want an easy A look elsewhere. If you want to be prepared for medical school or the hard sciences take Crispen.
For Those Who Want to Learn Only!
Best Professor at City College. She is demanding that you depart with a fundamental understanding of chemistry. This will probably be one of your hardest classes you've ever taken. Take it if you need to know the Chemistry for advancement. I highly highly without reservation recommend Nancy Crispen.
This was by far the most frustrating teacher/student relationshipe ever! It takes forever to get homework or quizes back, and sometimes you don't even get them back before the test! She says she'll post the notes on webct (because she goes through the slides so fast you don't have time to take notes) but she doesn't do it for weeks at a time.
Crispen is lousy. She makes interesting topics dull and academic. If you ask a question, she'll probably look at you like you are a complete idiot for not understanding her in the first place. She gives you very easy problem sets that have the answers, but the homework and test questions are 10 times more difficult- so you have no preparation.
Oh wow.. This class was a reality check for me. I must admit, I went into the course very cocky and that attitude backfired on me big time. Her class is very difficult if you suck at math. But she is usually helpful if you catch her office hours. A lot of her 152 material was 200 course material. Very hard professor but curves generously. Le
Horrible Grading. No wonder the scale is so low. 50% and below is failing.
She is dedicated to her field and my advice is if you need to take further chem at the university level take her because you will be ready. She is an interesting mix. She is the nicest lady in the world, and I enjoy her lectures, but the class is incredibly hard and demanding. She is a very hard grader and marks you down for the slightest errors.
Absolutey horrible. Merciless grader, ridiculous tests, terrible lecturer. She lectured for so long we would have to stay long to complete our lab experiments. I have a four year degree and took this class merely for personal interest and in all my experience she is by far the most unpleasant professor I've encountered.Absolutely petty person.
This is the woman who killed my interest in Chemistry... I took an AP Chem class in HS, and this woman literally made me forget everything I knew... is that even possible?????
Professor Crispen is awesome. I took chem 152 with her, and now i am taking 200 and 200L. She spects a lot from u, but if you need help, she would help you. if you are going into a science major i highly recomend her, u would go very prepared to the University. :)
Great prof. If you want to learn chem, take her. If you want an easy A, don't. If you can't show up for class, look elsewhere too. I got an A, and it's the one I'm most proud of. I learned a lot, and I actually retained it. Hard prof, but effective. Cumulative final.
Summer class. Rigorous exams but study guides are excellent and will prepare you adequately for the exams. They have some mistakes but she will let you know what to watch out for or correct them. Her lectures are good and she gave us 25 extra points possible on tests on average. Just follow her lecture and study guides diligently to do well.
Horrible teacher! Doesn't help you out what so ever. Teaches over your head.
I worked the hardest Ive ever worked in any class before and Im B average student,I left class everyday crying I was so frustrated, even with tutoring. Her test questions are harder than lectures and book.when asked about this she said she wanted us to use what we learned to figure out the problem.and she's not helpful or willing to grade easier.
This woman is a wonderful lecturer but a horrible teacher. I completed all of the homework, but never got a single assignment back. In her lab we did a total of 15 labs and 4 exercises, i recieved 3 exercises back and 3 labs. I had no idea what areas i needed improvemet in till I recieved my grade online. (which was a complete suprise)
I thought i failed the class but i ended up with a B. I have no idea how that happened.
Worst teacher in a long time! Doesn't go over Chem problems in class and makes you use a horrible website to submit HW assignments. She also requires you to go to 10 chem team (xtra classes) at 1 and a half hours each for credit OR you can write BS Chem essays.) I can't believe she is the dept chair. There must be a shortage of good chem teachers.
Prof. Crispen will make you learn Chem. if you put in the work. She is fair and passionate about her job, as well the subject. All of the former Crispen students in my 201 class have A's. If you can't handle it, you are in the wrong major.
terrible teacher.bad in labs, still haven't got any reports returned.tests are longer than the time allotted.she doesn't explain things well.goes in circles.take this course at Mesa so you will actually learn something. worst chem teacher so far.
A person wrote "If you can't handle it, you are in the wrong major." FYI Chemistry is not my major, but I still had to take her class (Gen Chem)for my major. It still doesn't change the fact that she was a horrible teacher! The only thing good about her was she had a generous grading scale. She wouldn't have needed such a scale if she taught better
Very knowledgeable and passionate about the material. Tough grader, and makes you work hard in her class. If you want to really learn chemistry, and especially if you plan on taking upper division science classes, I would highly recommend professor crispen. Great professor.
Super hard grader. I took this class over the summer and it felt like we were going a mile a minute, without time to really digest any material. I'm told that during the school year there is more material to help lock in the material that you are learning in lecture. Anyway, I found her teaching style to be interesting and inspiring. A- to A!
Horrible teacher. Unorganized, lectures are incomprehensible and painfully boring. I know it's chemistry and not easy, but it is especially difficult with this teacher. I would not recommend her.
I have a 3.82 GPA and I got a D in her class. This was after I got a high A in Bio 107. HARD!!!! Be prepared to work hard and do a lot of practice work.
Tougher than diamonds, but, for lack of a better word: amazing. I had a six year hiatus from school before I took her and I thought I'd crap a kitten. At the end of it all, I couldn't be happier for taking her. I actually perplexed an O-Chem teacher the next semester with things that I was "supposed to forget." Thanks Mrs. Cripsen!
She's tough as diamonds. I had a 6 year hiatus from school when I took her class, and I thought I'd crap a kitten. Highly recommended if you're not a whiner. I still have the mole from 6.23! Thanks again Mrs. Crispen! In short, Crispen is teh Gangstatus!
In short, she is tough! Extremely detailed on grading. Exams are challenging and assigns a lot of homework. Started out with approximately 40 students and 11 students stuck out the course to the end. I had to study at least 3 hours a day to get an A. The good thing is, when I took 200, I did amazing thanks to Crispen--No joke.
If you asked me at the beginning of the semester, I'd say run the other way, but having completed the course I have decided Mrs. Crispen is one of the best Chem teachers I have ever had. If you are planning to continue to higher level Chem courses do yourself a favor and sign up for this class. She is tough as nails, but well worth the pain.
Chem 200 is not like Chem 152. If you work or take other classes, I wouldn't recommend her. She assigns alot of busy work in her class and lab, even if she hasn't covered the material. She is painful to listen to for long periods of time and unless you want to take her to prove something to someone, AVOID THIS CLASS!
Maked you work like your a student in medical school and you never really get what you want to get out of the class. Hand back papers never so you really dont know how your doing in the class. Talks on for days, if it wasnt for my friend I wouldnt have survived. AVOID CLASS at all costs! go take Dr. Evans or Dr. Gurmurthy!
Terrible professor! go take chemistry at MESA
The worst teacher I have every had. She doesn't like to answer your questions. Yells at you in lab. Makes her tests impossible for anybody to pass with anything higher than C. She doesn't get along with the other chemistry teachers at City College. She goes to class because it is what pays her bills not because she likes teaching.
All in all a bad teacher, take Chemistry at MESA
Rude! Chemistry is my major and she teaches based off her own ideas of chemistry and not general concensus. Her lab is rediculous and prepares you for absolutely nothing. I am in 20O now and labs make no sense because she is incompetent. I would take someone else if you can
Unfortunately this professor lost an interest in teaching. Don't allow it to affect your interests.
Worst professor ever! I generally take classes at City but if you have to take a chemistry series, I HIGHLY recommend Mesa in this case. They prepare you for UC schools and not nonsense busy work. The 20 min bus ride up the 163 is well worth it to avoid her class. But if she's your only option, I wish you luck!
Pretty impossible teacher...always cranky, turns assignments back late and better for you to stay away!
on the way driving to class i stopped wearing my seatbelt because i wanted to die before i got to this class.
Don't expect to walk through the semester with her. She is relentless and never lets up with the hw, quizzes and test. She lacks the spontaneous personality to teach such a difficult class. If she switched up her lecture style and got her classes involved, maybe more than 10 students would finish her class.
Took her for 152 also. Chem 200 was more challenging for me, but I really enjoy Crispen's lectures, and once again learned so much. I am sad she won't be teaching 201. Thx. Ms. Crispen!
HORRIBLE!!!!!!!! She is the WORST teacher i have ever had. Ever. She is not understanding, she is horrible at explaining anything, she turns back assignments extremely late, and tests are extremely difficult. Do not take her.
Crispen means well but expects a lot from her students. If you put in the time and effort, you'll be rewarded with an A or B and a strong knowledge of Chem 200. If you are lazy, look for a different professor.
I read all the positive feedback from this site, because I consider myself a good student.Unfortunately, all the negative feedback on this site is accurate. I'm a chemistry major and I'm doing horrible. She should be helping students build a foundation on chemistry verses deconstructing their interest. No Golden Apple Faculty Award for her!
Horrible. Hard teacher. Not many passed
Avoid this teacher at all cost.
Worst teacher EVER! She makes you buy her "packet" and then just reads it to the class on a projection screen that she can barely operate. Her voice and public speaking ability are unbearable and distract my learning process. She's unorganized and her teaching style is outdated. Thanks Nancy for Lowering my GPA!
Mrs. Crispen isn't a horrible instructor, but she doesn't stop to make sure her students are understanding what she's teaching. Seems like a lot of people are too intimidated to ask a question.
Speeds through lecture with a slide thats never avail. until right before class, She gets mad at you when you ask her a question. Oh she falls alseep in lab. Hw online and 3 days worth of it. She writes comments on your test and lab. I have never meet a prof who doesnt care to teach.-3/10 I didnt sign up to take online hw that takes fifty hours.
I love chemistry but this teacher just makes it impossible to learn!! she is rude, and her grading is ridiculous. Avoid this teacher at all cost!!!!
The worst teacher I have every had. She doesn't like to answer your questions. Yells at you in lab. Makes her tests impossible for anybody to pass with anything higher than C.Avoid this teacher at all costs!!!!
A LOT of time required for this class. Prof. Crispen moves fast through the materials and expects you to quickly grasp it. She's always late to the lab, expect 20-30 mins. of waiting. This will be 4 units you'll be overworked for, good luck.
She has long since stopped caring about her students. Her keys for the exams have no specific point values assigned for answer parts. I would have rather taken a night class and avoided this teacher. Assigned homework less than 16 hrs before it's due on material not covered and sleeps in labs that she is 30 minutes late for.
Took her this semester and got a C. She is by far the hardest professor I've ever had when it comes to grading and such. I.e. not even a partial credit for all the hardwork most of us have done. This teacher would break students to get down on their knees and cry but in return, everything that follows would be easy, I guarantee. She was helpful too
This class is extremely hard. It literally broke my friends. Before this they were dreaming of becoming scientists. Now, one is a nurse student and the other is an English major. If you take this class... YOU WILL SUFFER!! YOU WILL NOT LEARN!! YOU WILL TAKE IT NEXT SEMESTER!! ((Seriously do not take her)
She honestly prepares you very well for higher level chem courses. It is true that she demands a lot from her students but she will spend plenty of her personal time explaining that concepts. I would definitely take her class again.
She is not helpful. She makes you feel stupid when you ask something in class. Post homework and notes late on blackbord and does not give you enough time to complete it. some times things weren't posted at all. Notes and materials are not in order and takes a lot of time to sort through all the information. VERY CONFUSING LECTURES.
She is tough, goes through lectures quickly and expects a basic understanding of principles as the class goes on. She may snap at you, grades tough, & post things late on blackboard. If you're dedicated to working hard, you'll be ok, but trust me, it won't be easy or stress-free. Got C's the whole semester, but ended up w a B. Hang in there!
Level: Extremely Hard!
Ms. Crispen is really nice. You need to have solid algebra skills or you will struggle. 201 is really different than 200, there's more calculations involved and less theoretical stuff. It's not too hard to pass since she drops a test and some hw's, but if you want an A, you will have to work for it. The course material is not too fun, sadly.
i took this class for my nursing major. made me think twice about if i choose the right major. she will answer you sarcastically if you ask a question. she will not help you with homework nor during office hours. she reads off the ppt which is the exact same as the book she makes you buy that she wrote. she'll take points off for any little thing.
Mrs. Crispen is not a professor I would ever recommend, for anyone. She expects too much in too little time, assigns way too much homework, and exams are beyond difficult. If you don't know one thing, it makes you fall really behind. She doesn't help and makes you feel like an idiot when asking a question. This class is not for average students.
This class either makes you or breaks you. The tests are intense, lots of word problems. Little mistakes really add up. Additionally the course builds on itself -so you have to be on your game. She can be abrupt sometimes but if you go to her office hours and be cordial with her, you'll benefit.
A bad teacher nearly half the class left because it was too hard. The tests are really hard and she is a tough grader
This is not a class for an easy A. She expects a lot from you at the very beginning. Expect a lot of homework but not a lot of feedback so up to you if you are learning the material. Get used to all nighters if you are taking both her lecture and lab. She does teach valuable lesson though; college is no joke. Be diligent! I survived with 2 A's.
Mrs. Crispen is a very sweet person. She loves chemistry and loves to see students succeed.
If you are going to take this class, join the MESA program!!!!! It will help you immensely. She doesn't hand back graded homework before quizzes or tests, so you don't really know what you're doing right or wrong. She counts off for little things like equal signs on tests. Join MESA program + go to her office hours for help! Tough grader!Good luck!
She can be very curt (almost rude) when answering questions you may have. She assigns lots of HW both written and online. Be prepared to spend 15 hours a week studying. She will go over material once, and then by the next class she will expect you to quiz on it. Her tests are no joke. Her grading on those tests is even less funny. DO NOT RECCOMEND!
Very tough. Harsh grader. Expects you to know the answers to your questions. It is pretty ridiculous for an intro class how much work and how hard the exams are. Definitely do not make your first choice.
For the lecture class, tests and quizzes are heavy and points are taking off of little mistakes. The amount of homework assigned is crazy. If you plan on taking her class you must ensure to use your time wisely, and prepare for tests way ahead of time. For the lab, you really want to complete all prep pages and reports so the test will come up EZ
By far the most difficult instructor I encountered in my scholastic career. Does NOT give homework back quick enough (about 3-4 weeks late, you have no idea if you're doing the material right). Spent some money for tutoring and since I'm a veteran I'm able to request to get re-imbursed.. long story short, she wouldn't sign the paper to help me out.
Do not take this class if you are not working. This was the hardest class to pass. She gives too much homework(online) and homework(book) and her pop quizzes are hard, even if you do study. Her study guide for exams are not helpful, they are more like objectives. She also gives back homework like 3-4 weeks. My suggestion is to study the book.
beyond unorganized. too old to remember what she was talking about. gives back papers last week of class. grades work considering every single grammar error. grades lab off of how results are? when the lab techs mess up concentrations on solutions. worst experience ever. 9 people left in lab. i never want to see her again in my life. waste of time.
Did not believe the reviews and thought everyone was being too soft , but in reality she is one of the worst teachers ive ever taken. She unorganized , never returns graded homework so you dont even know if youre doing it right and is incredibly rude when asked questions . I would take any other teacher if i was you
What you are getting into (part 1): She is unorganized and returns papers a week later after turning them in. For her labs, she returns lab papers at least 4 weeks later after turning them in (not joking) which makes it hard to correct mistakes without knowing you are making them. Makes you feel bad when asking for help and leave regret asking
(part 2): Her lectures are based off her lecture packet , requires iclicker to answer multiple choice questions. Homework comes from blackboard and online tutor. Items you need for class and lab: iclicker, lecture packet, online tutor, student lab notebook, lab manual, lab coat, goggles, and special combination lock. overall money cost are high
I am not sugar coat anything. Her classes are hard as hell but what she is really doing is preparing you for the next level. Her 152 class is awesome but 200 is kinda challenging. If you are going to take her just do it for 152 because for 200 and 201 she is really tougher than I thought. I got a B on both 152 lecture and Lab. C for 200 Lab
Saying Crispen is tough is an understatement. She docks points for the tiniest mistakes: Os not big enough, shown work not in correct sig-figs (but correct in final answer), or answers not formatted as she expects (sometimes not even known). She assigns extra credit but earning full points on 1 of 10 assignments, required submitting 3 page report.
Crispen is a tough professor but not impossible to get an A in her class. Homework every class(the same that she teaches in class, so it ia not hard). You have to be very careful inhomework or exams because you could lose points for small mistakes. ask for help in her offices hours. If you are lazy and you don't like to study don't take this class.
If you can take chem with any other teacher, I would. She does not answer any questions you have in a way that actually helps you understand. She is a very tough grader and takes off points for the craziest things. She does no review for exams and relies on aleks way too much, Also, her "lecture" book she made is awful. Terrible teacher.
It's barely the first week of school and she has already failed the whole class on their very first hw assignment. She DOES NOT respond to her emails!!! She is loading us with homework, barely giving us time to do it!! She doesn't understand we are in a pandemic and its the first time every single student is taking their courses online!
Very inconsiderate, condescending when she grades. The homework is only up for 24 hours so it feels like a test, there's not nearly enough time on the quizzes to do all the things she's asking for. I'm usually very good at chemistry and I'm failing miserably. I would not recommend her class.
In a word, confusing. Lots of typos, no feedback on assignments, and study material does not match the work. I wouldn't call it a saving grace, but she grades low. 55% for a C, 70% for a B. She also drops a lot of assignments at the end. But honestly, just pick someone else. It's not worth the misery.
you are rarely going to finish an exam with time to spare, drop a lot of points for any small mistake, the prerecorded classes make them very long but that is not a big problem, the main problem is the many assigments that have to be done within canvas Using the canvas text inputter which wastes a lot of time during assignments, it was very stressf
Honestly the worst professor I have had in college. I attended her office hours once to go over a quiz and she just kept asking me if I knew that the answer sheet had been posted on Canvas. Her readings have spelling errors+quiz/test questions can be missing information so you have to be able to fill it in yourself in order to complete the problem.
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS, save yourself. By far the worst teacher I've ever had. She'll take points off for the tinniest mistake, the tests are hard and you don't have nearly enough time to complete them. Her grading is inconsistent, no extra credit, and LOTS of homework. I'd spend all day doing hw, review it with a tutor, but never got 100% STRESS
